I'm writing this complaint against NYC Motorcars (HEMPSTEAD LOCATION).
On August 6, 2023, I visited their showroom in Hempstead NY after searching for the car I wanted to purchase and calling them to verify the price as advertised. Upon my arrival, I viewed the car, started it and went back inside with the salesman Sean to purchase it. Sean pulled up the Carfax report for the car and assured us everything was accurate.
When we sat I advised I would be using my own financing. Sean stated they would have to finance the car and I could refinance after 45 days with no penalty. I asked "what does your financing entail?" as I want to see what I was actually paying for. He advised the car was 3k more than what was advertised, stating on the site it was due to a 3k down payment which is standard for all of their calls. Here’s what I initially had a problem with.
**Car is more than advertised online.
**I was also advised I had to purchase a warranty on initial vehicle sale. At least 90 days or more. I purchased the extended warranty for which was for 4 years/100,000 miles with the dealership.
After I agreed on the initial sales price and placed a hold of , they stated they could have the car ready upon our return since the dealership was closed at this point of time.
Upon my return on 8/9/2023, I was advised that I had to meet with financing to finalize the sale. I also advised them I wanted the grill on the car fixed and they advised we could return to get it done. They did a form called "we owe you". Their financing department makes you purchase the following after the sales agreement and after you’ve put down your down payment or the sale transaction could not be completed.
. LoJack system (Non existent- no access to such a system in the car)
Another warranty, similar to the one in the initial purchase price. Minimum of
Expedited paperwork fee which includes vehicle registration.
Besides the above, the biggest issues are as follows- The dealership is now closed, I paid for warranties that cannot be honored, my grill has not been replaced and my car is not registered. What did I pay for? Not counting time and aggravation, I’m out .
On August 14th, I received a call from Ronnie (The finance manager) that they needed an updated binder which lists the leinholder ASAP as they needed it to process the registration. I sent it over.
On August 24th, I followed up with Sean at the dealership to inquire about the replacement grill and received no response. On August 28th, I sent a follow up email to Sean and cc'd Ronnie and this email also had gone unanswered.
On August 31, 2023, I received a call from a gentleman by the name of [redacted] and he informed me that NYC MotorCars is out of business and asked me if I wanted to refinance my car for a lower APR. I explained that I was not interested in refinancing but I wanted my grill replaced. I then received an alert that a hard pull on my credit report
Desired outcome: Vehicle properly registered Refund on bogus warranties Front grill replaced as promised
