dogs in the store and in shopping carts
February 24, 2018 at 6:30 pm.
In spite of numerous signs saying no dogs allowed except service dogs, there are many small dogs allowed in all Safeways, but this is the one I use most. This evening a woman had her small, barking, poodle in the cart as she shopped, when I got to the checkout stand (because no one was in customer service) I asked the checker if we could now bring dogs into the store and he said no. I pointed to the woman behind him and he just shrugged and said there was really nothing they could do about it. I said, "If I bring my great dane and lab in is there going to be something you can do about it?" He said yes, I couldn't do that. I informed him that they were all the same species and at least my dogs would not have their butts where people put their food. I stressed that I was really tired of this ambiguity due to size and the health issue of the dog in the cart. He agreed but said they couldn't do anything. I approached the woman outside the store and asked why she took her dog in and she said she was told that she could as long as he walked. I said, "You had the dog in the cart, where I, and others put their food." She said that was ok because she had a bag underneath him. I informed her of all the signs saying no dogs and said I didn't appreciate her dog being where my food went and maybe she could follow the same rules the rest of us have to next time.
This is the first time I have tried reporting this to the store employees or have approached anyone directly, but enough is enough. This really is a health (and safety if the dog bites someone) issue and if it takes a bunch of us continually complaining or going to stores that are capable of enforcing their own rules then so be it. I have been a customer of this store for over 17 years and am very disappointed in their lack of response.
store manager
I tried using my Google Pay gift card at Safeway off Canyon Road in Puyallup Washington customer service today and when the cashier called for the store manager (Jay Betts) he walked over and without stopping or looking at me his response was to call the 800 number because the system wasn't set up for gift cards, and then walked away. However the cashier Angie was very helpful and patient and able to figure it out and showed great customer service. I will not be returning to that store.
customer service
I have encountered an employee named JoAnn a number of times in the Safeway store at 4800 Baseline Road in Boulder. Each time it seems I have done something wrong.
I have been chewed out for not putting my cart back in the corral. Not taking my receipt. Ringing up produce in the self service area and much more.
Today I go in and I see JoAnn manning the self service area and my heart sinks as I have a russet potato in my cart. I figure that I can sneak out without being disciplined but oh no. There was no code on the potato and so I just kept putting in PO in the search but nothing showed up. Here comes JoAnn (Yikes) she yells at me for not putting in Baking Potato and I should have known that. Then I have to approach her to get my Monopoly tickets. Apparently I was standing on the wrong side of her cash register and she said "move over to this side"...all of 3 feet difference and she could easily have handed me my tickets from the other side. Then I got the "Have a nice day" said in the tone that means exactly the opposite.
I don't know what her problem is as the store was not busy at all today but she is constantly on the attack. Most other employees in that store are pleasant and helpful and I know dealing with the public can be hard but JoAnn needs to change jobs.
Thank you for listening

gas points
During the week of February 11 through 17 we had gas rewards of 3+ points. This showed as such via the store website.
Shopping yesterday (2/23) would have raised that point total for use to 44+ points.
Upon going to the gas station after shopping, I was told I only had 1 point.
Wondering how this could be but questioning the clerk provided a very unfriendly remark. I went to the pump and it gave me a 2 point ($0.20) discount. Gas posed was $3.049 and the pump receipt shows I paid $2.849.
It appears that:
A) Someone may be buying gas using my phone number and getting the discount.
B) The clerk knew this, that is why the sour attitude when questioning him.
I have retained both the store receipt and the pump receipt as proof of this situation. I wish I had a copy of the website showing the stated points during the past week.
I would appreciate contact regarding this situation and hope for a remedy which will prevent such thefts/mistakes/system errors.

sexual harassment
As you can see by my Loyalty Card number, I am a very frequent customer and I spend a lot of money in your store on 20th and Washington in downtown Denver. I want you to know what happened to me today is now up on my facebook page and getting a lot of neighbors upset.
Walking into the Safeway this morning to get some things for my kids' school. See a man by the door about to ask me for money.
His opener: Hey fine thang!
And the rest of what he says is a blur, because in that moment I feel deep disgust, embarrassment, and anger as I am forced to decide between 3 options, pretend I'm ok with it and say hello back, ignore him completely. or tell him off.
I ignore him knowing it will still be taken as a [censor] move, and as I walk into the store I realize I am already afraid to leave and possibly have to buffer the comments he'll throw at my back as I rush to my car.
That's when I see the security guard, so I go up to him and say: Hey the guy outside made me really uncomfortable and now I'm afraid to leave, will you ESCORT me out when I'm done?
Well the guard immediately goes out the door to see who I'm talking about and is looking around like he can't see anything so I go back out too, feeling emboldened with the guard there, and the man is still standing there acting like he can't see us.
So I say: Hey I don't like it when you tell me you find me attractive, I don't know you and it's intimidating.
He says: What? I didn't mean anything by it! It was a compliment!
And I say: Well next time keep it to yourself, women don't like that.
And I go back in to shop.
When I'm done I pass the security guard again and ask: Is he still out there?
The guard says: No, but ma'am I gotta tell you, you should really take that as a compliment.
And my blood is immediately boiling all over again!
I say: No, I shouldn't have to take it at all, it makes me feel like an object, I feel objectified and intimidated when strange men on the street think they can comment on my body.
He says: Well it's not against the law.
I say: Neither is being rude but that doesn't mean you should be rude to people!
He says: Well this is the world we live in and you need to get used to it.
I say: No, I don't want to live in this world, I want to change this world for my daughters' sake. I shouldn't have to feel this way. That's not on me, that's on him, and as a security guard, you should have my back, so thank you sir, good day.
And as I walk away he yells: You need to take a chill pill!
Of course, because if a woman does not want to accept her subordinate status in life she is a hysterical [censor], another SEXist affront.
So I yell back: That's rude also!
And he yells: I don't care!
So I'm wondering if this security guard represents Safeway's view toward the millions of women that spend their money in your stores and if you've taken steps to train your male staff members on how to best serve and protect your female customers. Because the #metoo movement is looking for a business to boycott and I'd be happy to recommend yours.
Hopefully this reaches the highest offices of your corporation and your leadership has the progressive foresight to take a stand on this issue and make it national and very public so there's no doubt in anyone's mind that what happened to me today is not acceptable to you.
Thank you,
Stephenie Falcone
racial profiling
Store: Safeway Glenwood Springs Colorado
My son's doctor sent over a prescription to the Safeway store in Glenwood Springs Colorado on the 6th of Febuary 2018.
On getting to the pharmacy, the pharmacist told be the item was not available and he would have it ordered for me. He said I should come back to the pharmacy the next day at 1pm.
On 7th of Febuary 2018, on my way to the pharmacy I stopped over at Walmart store and bought a couple of items. I placed all this items under my baby stroller.
On getting to Safeway Pharmacy at 1pm, the pharmacist explained that the wrong product arrived so I should check another pharmacy.
On my way out of the pharmacy, my toddler son was making a fuss so I decided to buy him a toy. I went over to the baby section in the store and bought him two toy cars.
I went over to the tills to pay and the cashier kept giving me a funny look like she hasn't seen a black woman before.
I gave her my debit card to pay for the toys and when the transaction went through she held on to my card. I asked her if there was a problem and she rudely reply saying I should pay for the items in my baby stroller.
I politely told her that the items were not bought in Safeway but in Walmart.
She then went on to accuse me of theft saying I took items in the store without paying. She also told another cashier that I took items in the store.
I felt so embarressed and disgraced because there were other customers at the tills looking at me.
Luckily I had the receipts of all the items i bought in Walmart on me. So I showed the other cashier the receipts of all the items bought from Walmart.
The cashier that accused me of theft is called Sonia and I believe she judged me immediately based on my skin colour. She assumed that because I am a black woman so automatically I must me a theif.
I can't believe racism and racial profiling still occurs in this day and age in America. Nobody should be judged based on their skin colour, how they look or how they are dressed.
I want this incident officially investigated and I demand an official apology from the store.
Also the cashier called Sonia should be investigated so that she doesn't do this to someone else.
I am white, my daughter is mixed race and was accused by a Safeway employee to have stolen a book she had borrowed at the school's library! Yes, racial profiling does exist, yes, it's a reality in this country, and yes, I clearly see a difference when I am grocery shopping alone or with my kids. As a white woman, I am never bothered when I'm by myself. But when I am with my children, some employees are clearly biased and suspicious of everything we do. It's clearly an example of white privilege to blame someone of "playing the race card", you've never been in their shoes and you have the audacity of blaming them for having to live in a country where systemic racism is a reality and endure the constant denial of their right to complain about it. It happened in Starbucks last week and don't tell me these young men had done something wrong. They did not order within two minutes of their arrival and were taken in police custody, facts speak for themselves.
I have gone through this experience before so I understand how you feel. You should have a read on this article.

rude employee
I often shop at the safeway located at 1001 n 4th street in coeur d'alene, id. There is a checker there named debi who is extremely rude and unprofessional. I am very quiet and have not had an unpleasant interaction with her myself, but on numerous occasions I have seen her snarl at the person in front of me in line.
I heard her say, "whatever, i'm not talking to you," to a gentleman trying to explain something about a discrepancy on his receipt, while shaking her head and rolling her eyes at him.
She was also rude in front of me to a lady with little children, making the lady well up with tears as she walked away.
Most recently, two of my adult children were either called stupid or another name meaning "stupid" by debi, on separate shopping trips.
My son was told he was stupid because he didn't have a safeway card, and my daughter was insulted for some other small thing. Both times, my son and daughter were just quietly shopping, there was no altercation, they weren't asking for anything, or doing anything to cause annoyance.
My daughter won't go to safeway anymore because of it, and goes across town to super 1, just to avoid debi.
I worked at albertson's years ago, and I certainly know that customers can be frustrating, but debi should not be in a customer service position.
When I go to safeway, I will stand in line for ages to avoid debi if at all possible.
Please do something about this - there is no reason for a person who clearly cannot deal politely with others to be in a customer service position. There are several other wonderful checkers, robyn, hope, rebecca, another older lady whose name I can't remember but who often works the express lane... Who are always patient and kind to their customers.
Safeway undoubtedly knows how to train and/or deal with employees who aren't - please take care of this!
expired product
I am complaining about 2931 13th Ave, Regina, SK S4T 1N8. As today I show pizza crusts was expired expiry date was feb. 07th and it's still seating on the floor. I told one of the safeway employee about expire product on floor and he didn't act anything and we request to find if any pizza crusts pack available in warehouse. However, he didn't check and said that's all we have there. There was no more stock in warehouse.
rude employee
I went shopping on Monday February 19th at 545 or so at Safeway Store 1798 in Puyallup, WA on Canyon Rd and 112th. I picked up State Fair Corn Dogs 12 count for 3.99 (even checked the price tag to ensure I had the correct item) and went to check out with my items. The item above rang up as 8.99 and I said politely that it was incorrect. The cashier Tammy at first acted like she didn't hear me then after twice more repeating made some comment about a star not being present then looked at me. I stood by what I stated and she said she would go look. She came back and stated it was right so I said I would show her where I had gotten it. I did and she went three doors down or so to a vegetable cooler and pointed at the exact same item shoved in in front of frozen veggies. I finally said I'll just swap them then and I'll be speaking to a manager at which point she said snidely that she was a manager so I said higher then and she laughed. Once we got back to the register she tried showing the difference between the products and I said just switch them out because at that point I was frustrated, a bit upset, and not happy.
Also the reason that I found out that Tammy did not hear me is because she is deaf, or partially deaf. She had hearing aids.If this is the case she has no business working with people. She should be cleaning washrooms so that people don't have to be inconvenienced by her not hearing them. Or better yet she should have been put to sleep as an infant if she was born deaf. or once they found out she was deaf. No use for people like her. Now after reading the sign i admit that i was wrong. But still they should have honoured me instead of discriminate against me.
bakery
I have ordered from safway for years. cakes from the bakerey. Never have I ever heard that I had to put down a 50$ deposit for a 59.99$ cake before I order. I called the safeway located at 2980 east capitol expressway crossing tully. feb. 16 2018 when I asked her if I can make an order she refused. I then called customer service where he told me the bakery had that policy and when I asked if it was all safeway or just thiers he said all however when I ordered a full sheet from another store a few months back I did not have that problem. I insisted on speaking to a manager and was transfered. They refused to give any names and when I askes they said well tranfer you to our manager now. the phone just rung and when I called back no answer.
such a shame because I really did enjoy ordering frfom safeway. honestly I called around 630pm and felt the bakery person at that time was being lazy she started my order and when I had more questions she said I couldnt order untill I came in and put a deposit.
unfair business practices-antitrust
The staff have a bizarre obsession with having their way with something I have rightfully owned for a very longtime and rationalized their obsession by causing me an awkward/harassing environment whenever I shop at the store. I have never stolen anything from any of the stores which they acknowledged today when they had a security rep unfairly-without honest cause tell me not to shop there to put it bluntly just because they dislike me. I did not cause their stubborn obsession and psychotic skitzoid delusions they unlawfully caused me an awkward/harassing environment while I simply shopped for groceries and hadn't otherwise said anything.
signature kitchens italian style meatballs
This product claims that it contains 24 Italian style meatballs inside the package, however, this is the fourth bag we have bought at our local Severna Park, MD Safeway that only comes with 23! This proves it is not a random error and either a machine sorter is broken or Safeway enjoys scamming people. I am interested if anyone else has experienced this at other locations.
signature soup
I was eating the jambalaya soup from the Arlington Safeway and there was something I could not chew on so i took it out and it is almost like a gummy plastic piece. It is quite disturbing so I threw away the rest of the soup. I contacted your customer service who then went to transfer me and then I was hung up on. So I am now submitting an email.

manager
Store #1471 at 9:06 pm on 2/14/2018 my boyfriend and I were walking out to our car and there was a manager in a blue plaid shirt yelling at a customer as he was walking away calling him a [censored] bag and telling him to come back so he could knock him out. I feel that was highly inappropriate and unprofessional especially in front of other customers. That makes me not want to shop at that store again.
bakery cake
We have ordered Tresleches 1/2sheet cake for my son's birthday which they made 1 sheet and on it wrote my son's name wrong. The cake inside is very dry like bread we just had 2 slices out of 5 slices and threw it we want to complain abt it and return that useless cake. We tried calling couple of times on the store number even the headquarters and no one seem to answer it. Never ever we will go to this store bakery .we can't even give the cake to homeless and we spent $38 on it for nothing.
restroom and manager
So I go into my Safeway in San Francisco on King St. And I use the men's restroom upon entering it the restroom is trashed so I go into the stall and notice two used syringes that have blood on them. I tell the manager instantly and he says he knows they have been there since the morning and he doesn't have time and I should pick them up. This is crazy and unsafe.
cleanliness of carts and cart wipes
The Safeway near my house very rarely has cart wipes available. I realize cart wipes are a luxury and stores do not have to provide them but these days they are commonplace and expected, especially during flu season. Last week they put out a bottle of hand sanitizer instead and today there were some dirty stained rags sitting in a bucket of cold dirty water. GROSS. Neither solution is adequate or equivalent to providing wipes.
I have mentioned the lack of cart wipes to managers on several occasions.
Also, the "car" carts for children are absolutely filthy. They are brown with grime. I have never seen even a somewhat clean one there and have to fight with my child about why he can't use one.
customer service/long lines
- [ ] The customer service at the Mililani Safeway store in Honolulu, Hawaii is the worst. On numerous occasions service was requested but no one was in sight. I had to walk across the store and look for a employee for help only to wait 5-10 minutes for someone to assist me. After all that, I had to wait another 5-10 minutes in a ridiculous long line. There is only 2 of 7 lines open with a large number of unhappy customers with very few items who have to wait to be checked out. Whats going on with the management? This store needs to be held accountable for their unacceptable service. Love the store and location but not the long lines and service.
customer service re: clubcard
I shop at Safeway all the time and spend a lot of money between the two stores in our town. Today at checkout I did not have my club card as my son filled my truck with gas and forgot to return it. I told the clerk. She asked for my phone number I entered it and I guess I never changed it when I got a new cell number. Anyway she then told me to think back and come up with another number. I did so. Of course this didn't work. She told me my only options were to pay full price or get a new club card account. All this on Friday evening at 5:00 p.m. and very busy with lines waiting. I'm embarrassed making these people behind me wait and she is a bit accusatory in that I don't seem to know my own phone number. I ask why it is that for a one time incident I have to have a second account when in another hour I will have my card? She then tells again I can just pay full price for everything. My comment is, I can also walk out the door right now and never return. She did not even seem to care! Since when do stores stop using a card to scan when a regular customer has an unusual situation like I was in today? Is it really worth it to loose customers over? Cashier name:Mary
Store manager:Tonja Bondley
Kingman South Store-
Please accept my apology.
I mistakenly took the incorrect names off of a receipt from an earlier date. They are the WRONG names for store director and cashier. I must ask for your forgiveness because I have never had anything but the most professional service at this location. You have always been friendly and helpful. Thank you, Tonja Bondley and Mary, you have an awesome store!
The store I was treated with "either fill out another club card or pay full price" is directed by:
Jimmy Vann and cashiered by Roxanna.
The story is below in another complaint box in its entirety.
rude staff
This store has the rudest staff I've ever seen in my life! I was checking out and the manager (which I didn't catch her name). I said " wow, I wish the other Safeway store (that I usually go to) had these new carts!" And she said "they do have these carts." I said "no they don't I go there all the time." Then she argued back and forth telling me I must have got the kids cart or something. So I said forget it all I was doing was complementing the new carts. It's still bugs me to this day because a manager shouldn't be arguing with any customer even if that customer was wrong . (which I'm not) that Safeway has so many rude cashiers I try to avoid going there. I'm not the only one everyone in this side of town knows how rude they are. Someone needs to check into this!

I'd support any store that allows dogs inside. On the other hand, sure wish they'd post a sign that states, "Please keep your children tied up outside."
