Pharmacist and refusal to call dr office as well as very poor customer service
First of all: I have worked in the pharmacy industry for over 26 years so I am familiar with protocol and schedule meds.
I requested a seizure med refill via the Safeway pharmacy ap. The ap stated a dr would be called as it was out of refills. 10 days later no word on the med needed. I called the new pharmacist to ask if a call had been made. She was very rude and stated no. It was not her responsibility. She then started to yell at me that she would not "loan" me any either. I kindly told her I had and would never ask her to do that. My request was to ask her to call the pcp for a refill. Once again she said it was not her responsibility but I could call. She then hung up on me.
Desired outcome: That pharmacist needs training on customer service and needs to be told that calling a dr office for a refill IS her job
Cashier behavior
We’ve shopped at this Safeway for years, but the incident I’m about to describe has led to us reconsidering further patronage of the establishment. As my husband and I were purchasing groceries last weekend, the cashier loudly stated that many of our items were not eligible for EBT. Well, that’s really interesting, I’m sure, madam, but we do not and never...

Called into pharmacy in Poulsbo this morning refill a prescription for a cream for my wife and a cream for myself.
Told that there is new policy. Doctor needs to fill out a form on where creams are applied and how much.
None of your business. Doctor wrote the prescription. Fill it. Too much [censored]. Some stupid [censored]ing bean counter came up some corporate nonsense. Fire that SOB. Going to fill my prescriptions elsewhere.

Game over and Store #3116
Good afternoon was supposed to get some credits\Redeem numbers for buying Game On product Quaker Chewy. The machine didn't print anything out and when you call the store at [protected] no one answer, and the phone recording keeps looking itself. Also, when you call the corporate office number at [protected] or [protected] or [protected] the phone never gets picked up. Be careful and make sure that the store is giving you entry code numbers for the Game On products listed by Safeway. Tks Rob from San Bruno

Desired outcome: crediting\printing the game on entry codes since this is going to be discontinued at the end of Dec.2022 no help on phone to the store.
Grocery pickup
Whenever I order pickup service, I list a replacement item in the notes section which allows me to specify another item not on the substitution list.
It appears they never bother to view it. It happens all the time!
It should also be noted that I originally signed up for delivery service which they contracted with DoorDash to deliver. Their service was horrific to put it mildly.
Eventhough I paid for the year, I opted to pay my cleaning ladies to pickup my groceries after they were left on the sidewalk infront of my building.
I want quality service.
Desired outcome: I'm not seeking monetary compensation. I just want the manager and the shopper to be aware of my frustration when they don't bother to read my notes to ensure my sub item is selected.
Safeway Pharmacy SF Market Street
There is a person on staff there who hangs up on every call she receives.
This is an ongoing situation. I have already complained to the manager onsite a few weeks ago.
Today, same situation, called from my cell phone twice- went through the prompts, then I'm told to hold on- then I hear the line picked up and then immediately hung up on.
Proceeded to call from my office phone twice with the same result.
DO SAFEWAY PHARMACIES HAVE ANY OVERSIGHT? IS THERE NO ACCOUNTABILITY FOR A STAFF MEMBER WITH SUCH CONTEMPT AND DISREGARD FOR PATIENTS WHO NEED THEIR MEDICATIONS?
I called corporate and was on hold forever - could not get through.
This person has NO BUSINESS working at a pharmacy. None Whatsoever.
Can someone respond?
Desired outcome: This person should be FIRED!
shopping cart/list
While on the safeway.com, the items you add which are not on the "For U" page go to the cart and don't show on any dual shopping list requiring you to have two separate lists when you go shopping. This creates a major inconvenience to have to go back and forth between two lists. When I contacted customer service the phone agent confirmed this fact. Bashas does not have this inconvenience!
Read full review of SafewayCustomer service
Why is the customer service at this store ALWAYS the worst? I have been shopping here [Store 2892] for 3 years now and the employees are some of the most unprofessional I have ever come across. Especially in produce, the deli, and dairy. On Wednesday, there was an employee in the deli cursing so loud I could hear her a couple of feet away. The deli employees are almost always rude and customarily leave people waiting for 10 mins. or more at the counter. The men in produce are always discourteous and unhelpful. Today, when I asked about produce that was obviously in the boxes that were being unloaded, the worker said he didn't know if he had it and said that it could be in one of the boxes, that was it. I have grown accustomed to these guys not speaking and not accommodating me when I come to this section, when they obviously can. Today, I even witnessed someone in produce arguing with another customer. If you asked them if they have a product, while they are stocking shelves, they might tell you to check back later. While Safeway is the most conveniently located to my home, I will be using all the other stores in the area. The disgruntled nature of the employees at Safeway literally brings down my spirits when I shop there.
Desired outcome: It would be nice if the employees would treat customers as if they appreciated their business. Unfortunately, I don't plan to see if these changes are made.
Pharmacy
At the taraval location in SF the Safeway I was very offended by her comments and decided to leave Safeway pharmacy for its ipharmacist went beyond her scope of practice verbalizing to me that I shouldn’t be taking certain medications. She is not my Dr and has no knowledge of my medical history. Based on tests and various diagnoses my professional Drs and I have already made decisions based on my physical issues and she is in no position to second guess them.
Desired outcome: Retrain pharmacy employees and apologize.
Signature select saltine crackers
I recently bought a package of your brand saltine crackers and they were terrible! Those that were not already broken when I opened the box fell apart as I picked then up. What is with your product quality checking lately? I have shopped Safeway and been happy with your store products however lately this is the 3rd item I have bought and felt they were all substandard. I shop at the Safeway store in Folsom California. I spend my money there because I have always until lately received exceptional products and service. These crackers were for an horderves dish I was planning to have at a party but because of the quality of your product that did not happen. Please look into this and a response would be appreciated.
Respectfully

Desired outcome: A coupon replacing the saltine crackers and the cheese I also wasted would be appropriate.
Poor customer service
I recently went to Safeway store 1880, 8858 Waltham Woods Road, Carney, MD 21234 on 11/1/2022 @ 14:15. The deli cut mt Deitz and Wats beef bologna chopped up, poorly ($8.23), D&W turkey classic broken into pieces choppy no slices ($14.06), PT Cheese American ($9.80) sliced but all were put on top each other sticking to cheesy glob. When I tried to get a piece it just crumbled. She never asked if I wanted it stacked. Then theres the expensive Rock Fish I ordered two fish each costing ($14.69 and $14,99). I was never asked how I wanted my fish scaled, guts out or heads off instead the man decided to just package / weigh each Rock fish separately in packaged with plastic wrap. I am a disabled senior woman with muscle bone issues. To go how to clean fish was a difficult task. When I puched Rock fish prior to that it was mo cleaned properly and most of the expensive fish was cut away, However the young lady who runs the flower department is wonderful and kind makes my trip a joyful experience.
Desired outcome: refunded my money for uncleaned fish and messy deli items. Staff trained on how to clean fish, cut lunch meat, especially disabled proper assistance. My receipt number 8894 date of service 11/1/2022 @ 14:15, [protected]
Their technology and less than p=rofessional approach to resolution
It occured on 10/28/2022 at 2:19 PM. My receipt indicated my charge was $42,30-that seemed high to me for what I had purchased. I went to CS, sure enough I was overcharged by $10,32, almost 33% over what it should have been. Yes, I was refunded the $10.32. but do you really want to patronize a store where everytime you have to scrutinize your receipt for errors? I do not. Corporate told me the store manager would get back to me within 24-48 hours-did not happen. I called corporate again today, repeated the incident, and several minutes later someone from that store called me. Did they offer to make up for this error-nope. Bye bye Safeway, I got Frys across the street.
Desired outcome: They should have given me a gift card, a store credit
A Safeway employee named Tammy an employee at the store No. 1579 in Germantown., MarylandJoy
Today was the 4th times she has treated me extremely abrupt and unprofessional, rude. I have been a loyal customer for over 25+ years at this Germantown, MD store. The manager was spoken to about her terrible customer servicie today, since this is a repeated manner of Tammy, I have been trying to reach the corporate office to file a complaint for the records. Please see that this Safeway Employee treats everyone with respect and appropriate behavior. Thank you. I am still going to try and reach someone at the corporate office about these situations from their employee. Charlene Joy [protected]
Desired outcome: Please have her apologize to me in a written letter. I should not have to take my shopping elsewhere due to a extremely rude and unprofessional employee who is paid to provide curteous customer service, but never does towards me.
Safeway gas station policy
Why did a "DEPOSIT PENDING" of $74.00 appear on my mobile bank statement when gas is pumped using my debit card when no attendant was available? It was on my mobile statement for a week until it disappeared. One other time this happened the "$74.00 pending" was gone from the statement before I left the driveway. What is the policy for pumping gas using debit cards when the attendant isn't available after hours?
Desired outcome: Stop this policy. Once the card is in the machine the gas is paid for immediately.
"boneless skinless chicken thighs"
I purchased a 5 pound package of Boneless Skinless chicken thighs Wednesday. I wouldn’t call these chicken thighs skinless. There were three entire skins, still attached, and rolled up inside the chicken thighs. I already threw the first chicken skin down the garbage disposal, but after I found the other two, I took a photo. Also, the last time I bought boneless skinless chicken thighs from Safeway there was a bone in the package. I assumed it was accidental.
But now, I don’t know if this is just sloppy workmanship, or intentional. Judging by the excess water that was in the package and the skins, I feel like someone is just bumping up the weight to make Safeway a larger profit. Or, someone working in the meat department is not doing a good job.
Signed,
Irritated customer

Electric carts
I TRY to shop at the Safeway on White & Tully in San Jose. I’m handicapped, need an electric cart. As I’m sure you know, they get stolen very frequently. This store came up with a brilliant plan that worked. They kept the carts in the back and required anyone wanting to use one to turn over a drivers license or ID while using the cart.
Headquarters (you!) made them stop doing that. One of their two carts was immediately stolen - no surprise. So I now am back to having to sit in the parking lot waiting for it to be available. Waited 30 minutes today, had to leave to go home to use the bathroom. Prior trip I sat in that hot parking lot in my car for an hour and a half. Plus, it will most likely be stolen soon.
I not only didn’t mind handing over my license, I was delighted! If you nixed this program due to complaints, I wonder if the people complaining were the ones stealing the carts.
I am very angry about this. Life is hard enough for handicapped people without having it made harder for no good reason.
Lu Shoberg
Desired outcome: Get in touch with the store and allow them to resume what they were doing. And hurry up about it.
Deli
it not just the deli but mainly, they are rude and unprofessional. I know many locals who have refused to go to this store because every time they go to this store the employee treats them like they're idiots. I myself, try to avoid the deli. it isn't just one employee it all of them. this store take advantage for being the only grocery store within 30 minutes.
Closing the store early.
It is 11:52 and the store on Othello and MLK in Seattle, WA is closed and from what the other angry patrons in the parking lot said, it had been closed for at least 10 minutes prior. Does this fall in line with your companies policies and procedures? Was there an accident or a valid reason for the stores early closure? I would like to know because i got off the lightrail early so that i could grab milk and bread after work for breakfast tomorrow with my kids. Now i have no breakfast and i have to walk an extra 15 minutes home with nothing. This store’s employees are notoriously rude as it is and this just takes the cake. Hope i never have to shop here again.
Desired outcome: I don’t know what you do with such a inhospitable place like this.
Customer service and courtesy
Yesterday, Monday 10/3 at approximately 12:40 pm I had a very disturbing experience at your Olney, MD store. I buy virtually all of my groceries at Safeway for the last 10 years including the Olney and Kings Farm Rockville stores. You can look that up, my customer care phone # is [protected]. I also buy all my pharmaceuticals, beer and wine, deli and prepared foods from your stores. This week I'm preparing a spaghetti dinner for a group of 30 so I went in to buy 7 lbs. of hamburger. I normally don't bother with the circular but this time I decided I'd take a look, since I was buying so much. I googled "Safeway circular" and up came a page that showed regular hamburger for $2.49/lb. with a purchase of at least 6 pounds. That sounded like a good deal so I asked the butcher dept. to package up 7 lbs. at that price. They said they weren't aware of the sale but I showed them the circular on my phone. They packaged up the meat and told me to take the circular up to the front counter so they could give me that price.
Immediately I encountered a very unpleasant woman whose name tag said assistant manager (I didn't get her name). I showed her the ad and she told me tersely that that's not for her store. When I said, nicely "but this says Safeway and this is Safeway" she took the phone, read the fine print and said in a very smart [censored], sarcastic & condescending way "oh look, Oakland, CA". Then she thrust the phone back at me and turned her back, as if to say "get lost loser"! I lost it and cursed at her and she ordered me out of the store and to never return. I demanded to speak to the manager!
Thinking the manager would back her up, she led me to his office. Fortunately for your stores, the manager, who sees me in there all the time, handled the situation very professionally and diplomatically. He closed the door, calmed me down and assured me that they welcomed my patronage, appreciated my business and I could continue shopping there anytime. I have always been extremely nice and courteous over the years to all your employees and so have they also been to me. You can confirm that, as well!
Desired outcome: This woman obviously hates her job, which is her problem, but also hates your customers, which is yours. I would like an apology for being treated so rudely.John G DeMare'
Deli department
The store is open 24 hour , I got off work to pick few thing that me and my Daughter talk earlier...I got to the store at 1:45 am and pickup ground beef, cucumber, eggs, and the last item on my list was tamales, that we will have for breakfast..I asked an employee to help me locate the tamales he did help me look, and he found them and point it at me and said wait for the guy to come in...and then he left...so Im waiting at the deli for someone to show up, but no one coming, decided to walk up to the cashier or any employee who can help me, found a woman ( I didn't get her name) and she said the Deli is close and no one is train , and allowed to go in Deli coz its closed...
and asked me to comeback when the deli person get in at 4am...and asked if they have them in frozen , she said if they do its gonna be aile 16, so I went..no tamale asked if I can speak to the manager and see if he can help me, coz im from out of town, I explained that if he can help I just needed 8 tamales that I promised my Daughter...the guy who help me look to locate them is the Manager...and he can't help me that I had to go back 4am...
Its sad, a Manager couldn't help at all...the tamales are refrigerated I will understand if its hot items, or If Im asking to slice some meat...I didn't know that the deli close, or else won't waste my time going in there at 1:45 am
Desired outcome: Apologies hopefully and train their manager thats on duty...and if its really true that Manager can't help customers if they wanna purchase deli item? If the deli is close ? What's the point you have Manager on duty
