poor customer service
I have State Farm Homeowner insurance on my home. We fixed it up and put it on the market when a toilet water line burst. It took three months before the State Farm Premier repair team finished the repairs while I continued paying mortgage payments...the house was not habitable, yet State Farm refuses to cover the mortgage payments during the time it was uninhabitable (taken off the market). Greg Lopeman, my agent, never called ONCE to check on the status. I am forced to file a lawsuit against them to recover lost use of the residence. They have no customer service and try to avoid helping a customer who was loyal for years. Too bad..they have lost another customer!

omitting details of multi-discount program
My girlfriend and I talked to a woman named Cilia in this office about getting the Multi-car discount with state farm. She said ok and we my share of the policy was 33 dollars a month for the basic coverage. Now, a few days later we got the paper work and noticed my payments were 20 dollars higher than cilia quoted me. I called and asked what was going on and she told me since my girlfriend and I weren't related or married that we didnt qualify for the discount and I would have to pay regular rates for a basic policy. We now were back-billed 64 dollars (the balance of the NON-DISCOUNTED RATE) because of cilias mistake! I talked to the office manager candy and I was VERY IRATE with her about this and felt scammed and lured into a policy just so cilia and john Sullivans office can have another policy signed up through their office. I talked to john sullivan and said he should be paying the back amount of 64 dollars and he refused so I dropped that company for a second time due to poor performance and bad customer relations. Cilia should have asked the right questions and john Sullivan should be training her and future office people the correct way to interview or his office tactics and ethics will continue to be viewed as deceptive.

You indeed were not given the correct information in the first place. The bad news is, the higher rate is correct. You have to be married to your girlfriend or you have to be an owner of her vehicle in order to get the multi-car discount.
A State Farm Agent does not have the ability to say "my bad" and give you the discount anyway. It is against the law. They have to rate you properly. It is also illegal for the Agent to pay the extra portion of your premium.
I have State Farm Insurance, and I will tell you that they are always rated right near the top when it comes to insurance companies. Sometimes human error creates a bad situation. I don't believe that Cilia did that intentionally.
Sorry that happened to you.
wind and hail roof damage
We recently had storms move through our area (Rockford, Roscoe, IL). A family member also had hail damage to his roof (also has State Farm, same agent) and they sent out an independent contractor, meaning this company had no ties to Sate Farm. Three weeks later, he has a new roof. Our damage was much worse as we live in a very windy area and had not only...

I was hoping someone reading this could please help me or lead me in the right direction. I recently found out I had a Sewer Pipe Break under my house. We had an adjuster come out and investigate. In order for it to be fixed, a plumber would need to break up my recroom floor (the pipe is under the cement slab), bathroom floor and more than likely my laundry room floor (they are not sure where the damage ends without sticking another camera. We found Mold from the water leaking all along my basement wall and I have 2 small children who have all their toys down there. Long story short, the adjuster that I had come out was under the impression that it would be covered. Our home owners policy is under State Farm. All the leg work has been done, we even had a company called Serve Pro come out a put an air cleaner in our basement and tape off the closets where the mold is. The agent from State Farm came out to look at the problem a few days later State Farm sent out their plumber to confirm there was a leak and the pipe needed to be fixed. The plumber confirmed it and the adjuster went back to State Farm to get the go ahead to get the job done. I just got a call today that State Farm denied my claim stating the "wording in the policy had recently changed" and Pipes that are under the slab are not covered. This is unbelievable! We have had StateFarm for 8 years ever since we became home owners, never had a claim until now. What do we pay insurance for if they are not going to pay for damamges. Where else do they expect a Sewer Pipe to be on top of your house? This job is going to cost any where from 8, 000-20, 000 dollars. Not even counting the cost of having my basement walls ripped out, redone and mold free as well as my belongings in the basement, bathroom tile floor replaced, painting redone since the wall was cut to get to the pipe. My adjuster told the Manager at State Farm we would take him to court and he said go ahead we have a good case. I do not have the money for a lawyer let alone the money to fix all the damage. Please help. State Farm is probably screwing so many others and this needs to STOP NOW.

Please write back and I will give you a list of groups that are fighting for Mold regulation laws, and against State Farm's criminal Bad Faith... yes, it is that bad... Not sure the status of your case, but it sounds so familiar, I did not even need to read your entire post... We fought them for 7 years over Bad Faith in a Toxic Tort (Mold) case... were offered 6-7 figure settlements... which our own atty turned down and botched... So, check this out:
http://TruthAboutMold.info
The woman who runs this site began fighting them 8 years ago... and there are MANY more of us... so just write and give her a sign that you are not an insurance plant... they have surveillance moles all over... it's insane. We have evidence of it.
Please write me... there is lots of support for you.
This is their typical "like a good neighbor" service. I unfortunately, was also insured by State Fraud (I mean State Farm) when my home was robbed while I was home sleeping. They refuse to pay the claim, saying it never happened, however, the police have a suspect, many fingerprints and they have interviewed people who know the man who did it and have confirmed that he was seen driving my car the night of the robbery. Unfortunately, all the police know is that his name is Sean and is apparently homeless. None of the people interviewed would give Seans last name- claiming they did not know it. State Farm then said they would cover nothing that I did not have a receipt for. The items I did have a receipt for (there were several) they will not reimburse either as they told me that they either "pay the entire claim or none of it" with no further explanation. The loss is only about $ 2000 but they have spent at least twice that preparing to deny the claim. I have had coverage for 9 years, no claims and this is how they treat customers. Insurance is generally a rip off. State Farm is the biggest collection of fraudsters around and the state insurance department just allows them to continue screwing people.
unlike a good neighbor, state farm is never there.

I was involved in a car accident in 7/12/2008. One car was hit by an incoming traffic and then swerved into my car so hard on my driver's side that I can't even open my door to get out. My left arm was extremely sore and bruised. I went to an emergency room and then a month after my arm was hurting again and I had to go back for pain reliever. State Farm denied my emergency bill and I was told it was not car accident related. I was so in pain that I can't sleep at night. State Farm is a scam artist. I didn't file a lawsuit because my bill was $600 so I paid for it and let it go by. I highly recommend you folks out there to stay out of this insurance company. I am so sick and disgusted with them. I am very disappointed. No words can described how I was being treated but I strongly believe what goes around comes around, they treat their customers trashed, they will too suffer the consequences. State Farm can go to hell. Not a dime they will get from me ever again. I went with a very caring and professional insurance company since than. They are a little more expensive but it is worth it. I love them.

incompetent staff
In all the 10+ years that I was insured by State Farm, I have NEVER been treated this way, my recent experience with Cookie O'Days Agent located at 13550 N. Kendall Drive, Miami, FL just puts such a "bad taste" in my mouth. I don't have enough space to write all that has transpired since March 2009; when my car broke down on the highway in the middle of the...

Read full review of State Farm and 1 commentdenied claim on hot tub
We had a storm during the winter that caused the motherboard on our hot tub to go. As a result, the pipes froze and cracked. We had a technician tell us that it was 'not repairable' and to submit it to our insurance for claim. State Farm sent a field tech (no experience necessary) to take pictures of the motherboard. Because the pictures of the motherboard did not show any burn marks, they denied our claim!
Let me see, storm happened, power went out, motherboard on hot tub went, pipes froze. Totally under our control, right? Hmmmm... This was the first claim we ever persued in over 20 years with State Farm Insurance (believe me, we have written a lot of checks to State Farm) and this is the treatment we get.
Good Bye State Farm!

I was just denied by Allstate for the same thing. Our problem was a week long power outage of which we were not aware of to our northern Michigan vacation home due to a storm. A month after filing my claim with them, they denied it saying they do not cover pools or spas from freezing, no matter what the cause was. I was told that I should drain it and winterize it for the winter like a boat!
I have been a customer for 20 years with no claim history. My annual renewals only come with a declaration and abbreviated language, not the full 30 page policy !
the policy covers the named perils only. Hot tubs are considered personal property, as such they must suffer damage as a result of a covered peril. Simple break down, malfunction would of course not be covered. That would be like asking state farm to pay for your malfunctioning toaster or lawn mower? The resuling frozen pipe was not due to a covered loss and logically not covered. I truly wish that people who want someone to blame would take a few seconds read the policy that comes to your home every renewal period, ask questions if you do not understand. And take some intreats in protecting and maintaining your belongings.
camper damage
Last year my neighbor took camper out of storage with everything normal. This year took camper out of storage and had water damage. called state farm & they said it was (lack of maintenence) so they won't cover any of it, but they now know about the damage so they won't have to pay as much if something else happens. What a racket, take your money every month and not cover obvious damage! Don't buy state farm insurance! Both her & I had state farm but are in process of switching. Found a hole poked in rubber roof that looks like a small branch landed & tore quarter size hole in.Anybody blind could see damage but adjuster said he didn't know if he could cover. Best advertising GEICO could get! Or PROGRESSIVE. Both of us have HAD state farm for 20 years or more. Thats gonna change!

I had the same problem except my camper is declared inhabitable last October my awning flipperd over on the roof called filed the claim and did not get to take my camper for estimate til May 2010 now it is july and the only they will give me is $2000 when my camper is worth $15000 because the water damage what do we pay full coverage for
accident
What has happened to State Farm? They have gone from being a reputable company to one with no integrity and disgraceful business ethics using any reason, however unrealistic, to deny claims. I was involved in an accident in which their insured client hit my vehicle while I was stopped at a red light in the left turn lane waiting for the light to change. He lost control of his vehicle on the cross street and hit the front of my car. They are saying this was caused by a third vehicle that had no physical impact with either the vehicle that hit me or my vehicle. Therefore, they are denying any liability for the repair of my automobile when the damage was clearly caused by their insured client as verified by the police report.
This is the second time State Farm has denied a legitimate claim on my behalf. The first involved a property damage which was resolved in civil court with them being forced to pay for the damage to my condo as again it was clearly caused by the malfunction of a dishwasher in their client's unit.
If requested, I will be glad to send additional information in verification of the above.

The state farm adjusters refuse to award compensation for motorcycle accident where our motorcycle was totaled and I need surgery in the future The motorcycle was totaled (2017 Harley) and severe injuries including a damaged knee that was ordered by doctor and MRI
unreasonable settlement offer for pain and suffering I will have the rest of my life! my attorney and state farm are scamming me and mad I sent a complaint letter and threatening not to increase my pain and suffering and to pay for needed KNEE surgery and my discretion in the future. I already have estimate for surgery bot Stata Farm refuses ti give me the money for a furure surgery.. wE (mY WIFE AND i ARE INJURED AND UNABLE TO WORK! i AM A 100% DISABLED VIETNAM VETERAN WITH OVER 40 PIECES OF SHRAPNEL AND BULLET FRAGMENTS IN MY TORSO. i RECENTLY RETIRED AND PLANNED TO RIDE MY MOTORCYCLE FOR THE REMAINING YEARS...NOT POSSIBLE THANKS
On your second issue, I am glad that you were eventually paid, but normally someone isn't negligent (which is what it takes to have a liability claim) just because of a dishwasher malfunction. You should have a condo insurance policy that protects your property.
If a third vehicle hits a second vehicle, and the second vehicle hits yours, the third vehicle is responsible for the chain reaction. Sorry, but you don't have a leg to stand on.
Wife was in an accident where her legs we're amost cut completely off. here in Michigan "Full Insurance Coverage" entitles her to whatever she needs for the rest of her life as long as it's medically necessiary. State farm refuses to pay 50% of the 1.5 million dollars in surgerys she's had. Been a legal battle for two years now going on the third just trying to get what she is owed after paying 17 years of insurance to the very company that denys her the benefits she paid in to.

dropped from coverage
I was dropped from coverage by Al Cheney, Agent for Allstate Insurance.
I had water damage in the basement, filed a claim and was paid. 18 months later was dropped. Al Cheney was not an advocate for me. He was rarely in the office and did not take ownership for the process brought forward by State Farm. I would not do business with Al Cheney, State Farm or recommend him to anyone. There are a number of other customer oriented agents in the Rochester area that will be your advocate and provide you and your family with insurance coverage you need. I am not an agent. I'm not in the insurance business. Just a citizen in the community who believes there are better insurance service providers out there.
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
i am not an agent of allstate i do not kow the agent, but what i do not understand is where do you get off thinking that your agent is supposed to advocate for you. He represents the company not you. If you want someone that represents you, you should look for an independent agent not a captive agent that represents one company. if he pushes too hard there could be ramnifications for him.
Also insurance is a private business not a social service, , if an insurance company no longer wants to do business with you why would you want to continue with them?
I am an independent agent who is licensed in michican and I totally understand the hard property market that exists there.
In the future this client should purchase insurance and kow that all insurance companies are in business to make money that is it. Allstate owes it to their shareholder to make sure they rid the company of bad risk. They alos owe it to their clients otherwise teir esisting clients wolud have to pay higher premiums to offset the claims.
illigal increasing in monthly payment
myname is: Helen David Yousif
my e-mail: [protected]@hotmail.com
I am and my brother (we live in same address) are policy holders of this car insurance company (2 cars and home), I am working, my brother got laid off because of the current situation the company closed.
I have complaint about this car Insurance because they increased our payment by $10.00 for eache without any previous notice or any evidances, when I called askiny why this happened, they said the rate increased for every one because of the accident rates in the area.
this always been happened with almost all car Insurances, is this right?
I think this is robbery, if these companies can't handle their problems, then I think they better close their business instead of stealing all people. when they sign any policy with any customer they promise to give compansation for any accident or they mean to steal others and to compansate whoever did a an accident.
I will not accept this as a Canadian Citizen
I want to ask:
1. am I responsible for others who making accedent? why should they increase my rate to give to other, in this recession circumstances we meight lose our job at any minute, especially now we have one incom the government should support citizen against these compoanies.
2. are these car insurance companies authorized to play with their customer's payment as they want whenever thay want?
3. has the goverment any controll on these copanies ?
4. why should they increase my payment without any notice or any reason, I didn't made any change, I didn't do any accident?

misinformed, misdirected
I am a long-standing State Farm customer. In 2006 I wanted to secure a sizable life insurance policy so I contacted my Xenia, OH State Farm agent, David Spriggs. Read full review of State Farm and 2 commentslost over $38000 out of my 401k
In July 2008 my wife and I decided to roll over our 401k plans to a self directed IRA. They use a company called Asensus to administer their 401K.
Asensus did not know what forms we needed to fillout. We did everything they asked in a very timely fashion.
After several months of going back and forth they finally accepted the initial paperwork we submitted the first time back in July.
On a 3 way call (that was recorded) Asensus, my wife and our State Farm agent, they stated everything is fine and a check will be cut and sent tomorrow. Great.
A few weeks went by and we contacted the Self Directed IRA. They said they never received any funds. From the date of the phone call to the date we found out they never sent the funds, the stock market dropped 3000 points. As a result of this we lost approx $38000.00, we are not sure exactly how much we lost, State Farm will not give us the reports they promised and we have requested many times.
After months of arguing with State Farm, they will not give us our money. They said "Assensus rep made a mistake"
We have current reports that show assensus terminated our plan and they took 30 days to mail the check. While our plan was terminated, our 401K was subject to market conditions, we lost $38000.00. Does this make any sense?
Has anything like this ever happened to anyone else?

insurance hail damage
I purchase Insurance with these ###s in November on our new house, yesterday we had a bad hail storm, I called them this morn to send someone out to check the roof, Casey told me that I would have to pay the first $2800 on the repairs, 2% of the loan, I asked her why she did'nt tell me that WHEN I bought the policy, she said if you don't insure your cars with them too, they charge you 2%, or 1% if you insure your cars, I have never heard of this, , I thought we had a right to buy Insurance where we pleased, this sounds like a penalty/blackmail has anyone else experienced this? This ###s are history in the making with me! If you have STATE FARM you might want to check this out!
NO, what I expected was NOT to be blackmailed, because Casey Knew I had two houses, and 4 cars she wanted all of the business, she did'nt bother to tell me anything until after the fact, now the bids I am getting for a roof are closer to $8200, and all I can collect from State Farm is $4300, The agent had a responsibility to explain this to me before she took MY money, she told me because she did'nt insure the cars with her as well she wrote it up to be a 2% deductible, This was the agents fault, If she had told me this from the git go, this would not have happened, How many people out there actually read the whole contract? As I recall I never even saw the contract as it was delivered to the closing table when we bought the house, and having known Glen & Casey for over twenty years as a prior customer one would have thought they could be trusted, to do the right thing. This was pure chicken ###. The bottom line is DO NOT trust anybody when it comes to your property or your money!
Try reading your policy next time.
"you may want to check this out" -what? the deductible you agreed to?
Even if you didn't read the detailed 6-7 page contract, there is a 1/2 page summary that clearly lists your coverage and deductible that literally takes 30 seconds to read and can be comprehended by a 15 year old. If you didn't have the sense or time to at least read that, then you have no one to blame but yourself.
As a staff person in an agents office, I think possibly there was confusion about the policy. I agree with the prior comment. You have a 2% deductible, which is solely based on amount of Dwelling Coverage you agreed to on your home. Nothing to do with the loan. I have yet to ask anyone what the loan on their home is, unless I'm quoting them Disability or Life insurance to cover the mortgage. State Farm as a rule of thumb requests policyholders to meet and discuss coverages with clients...not all clients or agents are receptive to this. In your case, it's an opportunity to review coverages, and hypathetical situations. A good agent, or staff person would make you aware of your policy limits and liabilities. That doesn't mean you will remember them 5 years later. I'm sorry for your loss! I do advise insureds take a higher deductible, but that they have that money set aside for catastrophic situations. Better for you to keep your money than to give to us. Not all agents make decisions on your behalf. You may want to request an insurance review with your agent ASAP! This was human error with regard to your knowledge...not State Farm as a company! Again, I'm sorry for your loss, the worst part of my day is telling someone their loss isn't covered, or they have to come out of pocket more than is affordable. Laurie in MN
It is called a percentage deductible and it has nothing to do with your loan but rather the amount you insured your property for. I recommend you get a copy of your policy and discuss the matter with whomever your agent is. If you feel you were not properly informed in November when you purchased the policy which is a contractual obligation between you and your agent (BTW as the consumer you have an obligation to read the contract and ask questions) you can always contact another agent in your area. Did you actually speak with the agent or somebody in the staff that may not fully understand the terms and conditions? Again your deductible is something you agreed to pay when you took out the policy, and if you did not understand the terms of the contract then it was your responsiblity to ask questions; regardless it appears you have what is known as a percentage deductible and again has zero to do with your loan; however is based on a percentage of what your house is insured with. Oh and if you don't like it you can always change it but I'm sure you expected you'd never sustain a loss and a % deductible is much cheaper than say a $1000 deductible.
taxes 1099 misc
HELP MY HUSBAND RETIRED FROM STATE FARM 6 YEARS AGO.
FOR THE FIRST TIME THIS YEAR HE RECEIVED A 1099 MISC. IT WILL COST US $1200 IN TAXES. THEIR EXPLANATION IS AFTER 5 YEARS
IT IS CONSIDERED OTHER INCOME. IT IS STILL RETIREMENT OR PENSION AND WE SHOULDN'T BE TAXED AGAIN. IN THE STATE OF
MICHIGAN IF WE RECEIVE A 1099R WE WOULD NOT BE TAXED.
ANY RETIRED AGENTS WITH ANY SOLUTIONS?
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
I will give them a free answer...You have to determine if the pension was saved before or after taxes. If it was before taxes, I am sorry, but you are going to have to pay the taxes now. Since your husband is a former State Farm Agent and probably licensed to sell securites products during that time, he should understand that. Hire a tax professional!
it costs money for a tax consultant! They are trying to get a free answer!
Sounds like you should have contacted a tax accountant vs posting on a complaint board.

Why should the insurance co pay for the mortgage on the home you bought? That's your responsibility.
I purchased a home in June of 2006. Several years later, as I was doing some yard work in my front yard, a neighbor – who identified himself as Gary - ran from across the street to offer some assistance. During his short visit he said to me, ‘I work for State Farm Insurance. When you moved in I wanted to see who you had insurance with so I scanned your name & saw that you were already with State Farm’. I thought this was unusual, as I did not authorize him to ‘scan’ anything and this was my first encounter with this man. I did, however, tell him that I was not satisfied with my current State Farm agent. Gary then told me that he worked for an agent in (Olmsted Falls, Ohio) and he then suggested I switch everything over to his office. Although I agreed to the transfer of agents, I still felt uneasy about the fact that he looked something up without my authority or knowledge. I felt this was an invasion of my privacy.
On June 10, 2011, I viewed my credit report with Experian online. I noticed that my credit report was viewed by ‘LexisNexis/StateFarm’ in March of 2011. I thought this was unusual, as I did not authorize such an inquiry. So I contacted my State Farm Agent to question this. I received the company voice mail and I specifically stated that I wanted THE AGENT to call me back. Although I specified this, within 5 minutes Gary called me back. Gary said ‘what can I do for you?’ Since I did not expect Gary to call me back and my issue was pertaining to Gary, I simply said “I just wanted to know how much I am paying in house insurance per year because I am shopping around”. Gary then said to me “you are paying $512 a year”. I thanked him and we hung up.
I then called the agent's mobile number and spoke to him directly. I went into detail about the first incident that I had with Gary in my front yard. I told him that I was concerned because I saw that State Farm has viewed my credit report in March of 2011 without my authority. The agent explained that there was ‘absolutely no way’ that State Farm can view my credit report. I then asked him if his office had access to Lexis Nexis and he stated ‘absolutely not’. He again told me that State Farm ‘never’ looks at existing customers’ credit reports. He asked for me to send him a copy of my report to prove to him that State Farm looked at my report. I agreed and then we hung up.
Nearly 15 minutes later, I received a call from the agent. He was now in defense-mode, as his tone was now that of anger and he was now acting as if he were an attorney. The agent said to me, “State Farm reviews your credit every 3 years”, which is now a contradiction to his initial statement that State Farm ‘never’ looks at existing customers’ credit reports. The agent insisted Gary ‘wouldn’t do such a thing’. I then reminded the agent, once again, that Gary admitted to looking up my personal information after moving in to my house. He said to me “look, what you think of Gary as a neighbor is none of my business”. I then reminded the agent that my first encounter with Gary was unusual, as he (Gary) was discussing my personal information (that he had already looked up) for the sole purpose of selling insurance to me as a benefit to State Farm. The agent then said to me, in a sneaky little voice, “ohhhhh, but that’s not what you said the first time! You said that Gary said that he ran across the street and told you that he ran your credit report! Now you’re giving me 2 different stories!” I said to the agent “I didn’t say he ran my credit report the first time he came to me, I said he ‘scanned’ my name, without authority” – however he did this, I do not know. But, in March of 2011 State Farm reviewed my credit report and I wanted to know why. The agent then said to me, “No, you said that Gary ran across the street and told you that he scanned your credit report, now you’re telling me something else. And see, here I called Gary and told him what you said & now you’re saying something else!’’ (as if to ‘trick’ me). The agent certainly is not a good listener, as I never stated this to him (and it doesn’t matter anyway, my privacy rights were STILL violated!). I felt like I was arguing with a 10 year old child. The agent is clearly unprofessional. He also made me feel as if I were on trial and I told him this. The agent then said to me, “let me ask you this, why did you ever come to my agency?” (as if he were suggesting I was a problem client simply because I was not satisfied with the service I received from my first agent – of nearly 20 years). I responded “because I was not satisfied with the way my last agent handled my claim”. Jared then said to me, “look, you are certainly free to take your business elsewhere”. So I am.
I have been a State Farm customer for about 23 years. State Farm has very poor customer service. I am now going to file a formal complaint with the Attorney General of Ohio due to my privacy rights being violated. I am now in the process of transferring my auto insurance to Progressive. I have already had a much better experience with them. I am currently looking into transferring my home to another company, as well. Once I have transferred all of my possessions to another company, I will never go back to State Farm again. My daughter has already transferred her new auto to another company due to Gary’s unprofessional behavior (a separate incident). I am going to encourage as many people as possible to switch their insurance to Progressive – all due to the lack of concern, privacy violations and unprofessionalism. ‘Like a good neighbor State Farm is there’? What a JOKE.
Let me know how your search goes for an insurance company that would have paid your mortgage...
I find it hard to believe that you continued to call agent about claim handling. They are not liscensed to settle claims. That is why there are liscensed claims adjusters. The insurance co will not pay your mortgage..however if you took time to read the paperwork I am sure you received and read your policy..you would of known you could of claimed living expenses if your house was in fact inhabitible. Ignorance by consumer cannot be blamed on any insurance co..
State Farm has no responsibility to pay your mortgage! The additional living expenses coverage would pay for you to live in a home of like quality in a similar area. If you did rent another place, call the adjuster and let him know. They will take care of you. You seem like an idiot.
