Horrible incompetent bank. Did a home improvement that had a 0% interest for 18 months using Synchrony. I chatted with a Synchrony customer service rep to help ensure I set up autopay correctly - basically taking a fixed amount that would pay off the loan in 18 months (about $600/month). He ASSURED me it was setup correctly. To my surprise, they took out the entire amount of the loan for the first payment (almost $12, 000). Talking to a real person is very difficult. And they are basically refusing to fix this to my satisfaction. They can "mail" me a "refund", which will take about a month. Meanwhile, I have a huge deficit in my bank account, and these games will only further screw up any autopay I want to set up. Asked if they would pay the fees that could pile up on my checking account during this time. They DID admit this was their mistake.
On hold for over 4 hours total. hung up on twice. Dropped from online chat 4 times. Was asked to confirm with my bank that the payment had been made and I couldn't otherwise cancel it. Was told to call back particular person to continue. But no direct line, and calling the customer service number, they WON'T connect be back to person. So more hold time.
One star is too many. Stay away from this financial institution. They are incompetent. On hold for hours. Online chat is worthless. Wish I had checked online reviews previously, but years ago, I had made a similar purchase for 0% interest that used Synchrony. All went smoothly then. I assumed it would this time around. I was so wrong!
Even though they call themselves Synchrony Bank, they claimed to me that they are not a bank. They refused to just deposit the money back into my account.
Poor online account access. Hard to use. Customer service is a joke, if you can actually get to them. You have been warned. Read other reviews. Stay away.

On 10-12-21 my paypal credit account was blatantly tampered with, every balance on purchased items were drastically changed, items that held balances were all of a sudden PAID OFF but in reality weren't paid off. Synchrony Bank sent me an email Greatly apologizing but would not give details, On 10-13-21 I closed the account. On 10-14-21 someone put my name on a credit app but all other information didnt match, precisely the soc sec #, BUT they ran a credit check on me. Which substantiates a criminal act, because my soc sec # was NOT the number printed on the credit app, they fraudulently performed a hard inquiry when all the info didnt match mine except for the name appearing on the application. And too coincidental, why would I apply for credit the very next day I just closed it, they have been running credit checks on me soft inquiries and hard every week since I closed the account, spying on me and sabotaging my credit reports purposely that's what I'm accusing them of. On 10-22-21 I paid off my entire balance of $2596.99, they I have purposely withheld this from my credit reports, they don't list it at all for October, I no longer have any business with Synchrony Bank but they keep prying into my life and trying to set me up, every allegation that I accused them of and there are many I have hard copy evidence of, meaning screenshots of my account before and after the fraud I have recorded conversations since August meticulously labeled with the subject at hand that confirms and validates the fraud. Again, I have hard copy proof of every allegation I'm accusing them of. The ones I've written about in this letter are just a few of the shady business practices they have thrown at me. They are still GE Capital with the synchrony name. Still playing dirty pool thinking they're too big to get busted, I'll take it to social media if I have to and I'll upload everything. Start a petition to have them indicted for financial crimes just like when they were GE Capital, and I can probably get tens of thousands of people to sign that petition no one is happy with them I have not red one positive review on Synchrony Bank. I want them to stay out of my life leave me alone stay out of my credit report, and just disappear.

HSN Account
Synchrony added a unauthorized $560 dollar charge to me account. I called them and the guy told me it was a mistake and don't pay it and it can take up to 90 days to get it taken. Meanwhile my credit is effected. I'm in the process of Refi my house and I keep getting calls for the mortgage company asking when and if this will removed and resolved. I don't know what to tell them. It's totally ridiculous that a so called bank is allowed to operate like this.

I was approved through care credit on November 11th, 2020.I was approved for 4000in credit with a lower score of 657.
I was informed on November 10th of 2021 that my account had been closed.I was told on present day it had been a year that my acct was terminated with 0 notice and it could not be reinstated.I got this funding for my Dental Issues and my Vet bills.I spoke to 9 different reps and was on the phone with Synchrony Bank from 8am to 4pm.The longest hold time was 2 hours and my acct was not reinstated. I was also never told in pamphlet that I could pay for my 6 meds, shop at Walmart, and it only stated for medical purposes. My husband, Roger Lee, owner of R&B Remodeling has had a Business Credit Card with Sam's Club since 1993. Today, I attempted to make a large purchase of approximately $4, 100 using the card and it was declined. I first checked our account to ensure there was no improper activity and was relieved to find that was not the problem and still have over $13, 000 credit limit.
Just a bit of background, my husband and I went together to shop for the item we were considering. Because it was a large purchase, we did not buy in haste. Today, while Roger was working, I went to make the purchase we agreed upon. I called the member service number and the female agent would not talk with me, insisting she had to speak with Roger. I conferenced him in and after he answered all of her questions (that I could have given her) AND authorized her to speak directly with me to resolve the issue, we were disconnected. I called back and got a new agent. He, too, said he needed to speak with Roger, so once again, I interrupted him while he is working to go through the entire process again, even though this agent confirmed he could see all the notes from the first agent. This male agent told me he needed to validate our identity. While Roger was still conferenced into the call, I asked who's identity he needed to validate and he said mine would be fine and he texted a link to my phone. I followed the instructions, taking photo of both sides of my driver's license and a video of my face. Keep in mind, I AM IN A DEPARTMENT STORE! I felt like I was being treated like a criminal! I did everything and received another text with a passcode, which I read to the agent. He said it didn't work. UNBELIEVABLE! He then put us on hold and after 10-15 minutes of listing to music, Roger and I hung up. Roger, while he should be working, called the number on the back of the card. The sales person in the store was so kind, he brought me a chair and bottle of water. I then called the number in the text with the passcode, only to be told they needed to verify Roger's identity. In the meantime, Roger had spoken with 4 different people who told him they couldn't do anything and would send information in the mail that he would receive in 7 to 10 days.
After spending almost 2 hours in the store just to make the purchase, I used my Chase Visa to make the purchase with one simple verification step that it is a valid purchase. After 28 years of being Sam's Club members with a Sam's Club credit card, we are cancelling as we will NEVER deal with Synchrony Bank again. Initially, I appreciated their attentiveness to a red flag since this was a large purchase and not our norm, however, the resolution should have been as simple as Chase Visa's process. In hindsight, I am quite concerned that Synchrony Bank has a photo of my driver's license. I DO NOT trust them.
I am EXTREMELY ANGRY that for the past couple of years, I have paid our credit card online and now they have denied us access to this so I cannot pay online.
We have enjoyed being Sam's Club members for the past 28 years and Synchrony Bank is accountable for severing this.

Closed account without warning.
I received a letter from Synchrony Bank, stating that they had closed my Ashley Account.
I have always paid Ashley bill on time, no balance and had had the account for years.
Is this going to be a standard procedure with Synchrony Bank? Is Synchrony Bank going to close all credit card accounts at will with no prior warning to the consumer?

Drafted my account for $10,000 to much and now having problems getting title
I financed about $6000 on a Polaris Northstar Crew and set up autopay to draft my account on payments. The later part of August I called to pay off my loan. I authorized a draft of $2483.01 . A week or so later I get a letter stating that they drafted $12483.01 from my account and the loan was payed off. I contacted them about the $10, 000 mistake and was informed that they would refund it after 30 days. They said this was due to federal money laundering laws. I then contacted my bank and was told that wasn't true and they could get my money back in 1 to 2 days, because it was an unauthorized draft. I then sent a cashiers check for the payoff, it was posted to my account on 09/20/2021. I was told they would release the title after 15 days. I have tried contacting their title dept and only get a recording and it states titles released after 10 days. It is now 10/27/2021 and I just got off the phone and they still have not released the title. They stated their mistake and they would mail the release in 3 days. It has been many mistakes and excuses. I was told once by a supervisor that she hoped that I could detect the sarcasm in her voice. I have never been treated as rude by a company and all due to their mistakes

This is a discrimination complaint! I've worked with other banking and financial services over the years but I never once feel so humiliated over a credit card application. This has reflected throughout the communication I've had with Synchrony representatives and really made me questioning Synchrony and whether the bank actually wants to do business with foreign nationals.

The first incident happened right after I submitted an application for the Sam's Club Credit. When I called in to retrieve my confirmation number, I was asked to do the extra verification step for my application without any explanation. I suspected that my accent threw them off a bit and that's why the request was prompted automatically. The verification step also asked for my driver license which I shared. A week later, I got a letter saying that Synchrony denied my application because Synchrony was "unable to confirm [my] identity with enough confidence". No other explanation about which information is missing or what went wrong.
I called into Synchrony to respectfully ask if there's a way for me to submit the additional information to which the account manager rudely said that I should have provided the passport in the first place. She then retracted her statement and said that there is actually no passport submission in either the online application or the extra verification step. Nevertheless, she insisted that the result is final and Synchrony has enough information to deny me and asked what I think I'd get out of this call. Near the end of the call, she told me to "fix" my info and re-submit the application and offered to share the address and a fax number for Corporate Complaint. She then hung up after I asked her to hold temporarily while I get a pen and some papers.

Synchrony bank, is the Most awful bank I’ve ever dealt with through Sam’s credit card. The very first time I made a payment before the payment was due I had issues of them saying I had insufficient funds when they clearly debited out of my account. When you call them nobody has a direct answer for you but offer to take another payment but can’t explained to me what happen to the $200 payment I made or was they going to return the money I sent. Then, they say I see where it’s going to be posted tomorrow. Next, payment I made from a different account the same thing happens again. Still nobody have any information! But they closed my account out. I have had the worst experience with this make bank! I wouldn’t recommend a DOG to them. They gave messes up my credit with this mess! Rate them below 0! Terrible!
I know I canceled my Sam’s Club card and they still charge me almost $200 a month for a cord. I’m not using. I pay my bill way before the 15th of every month. Yes I do send it by mail but they don’t process the bill to after the 15 and they charge me $40 and been for the last 18 months. I wish that consumers would look at this business a little bit harder and see how they are having people struggle. They got over 5000 complaints on Credit Karma alone is that a coincidence? I don’t think so.

You have closed my chevron account and you base my credit worthiness off my Sam card and chevron which is never late and I always paid extra.
This is illegal. You have to close all accounts. For the reason you gave me, that's the law.

Within the last 2 days, Synchrony Bank closed all 12 of my accounts without advance notice. Total available credit was $84, 100 with $1, 036 outstanding at time of closure. All cards were used within the last 6 months. Included cards are Amazon, Ebay, PayPal, PayPal Credit, Lowe's, TJMaxx, AEO, SamsClub, Zuilly, JCP, OldNavy, Belk. Several of these have been open in excess of 10 years. Payment history is exemplary on every single account on my report NOT JUST THESE LISTED. I have always paid way more than the minimum payment on all accounts. Credit increases were recently granted on many of the Synchrony accounts listed. My credit score is VERY GOOD. Answer me one question… WHY?! IS THIS THE WAY YOU TREAT A LOYAL CUSTOMER? IS THIS THE WAY YOU REWARD CUSTOMERS FOR RESPONSIBLY USING CREDIT AND PAYING PROMPTLY MONTH AFTER MONTH! YOU SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF YOURSELF. I SINCERELY HOPE THAT A CLASS ACTION SUIT IS BROUGHT AGAINST YOU!
I had the same thing happen. Synchrony deemed me a high risk with a 750 credit score, no late or missed payments with Synchrony or anyone else and balance paid in full each month. Synchrony was generous enough to keep my Venmo credit account open (which I will never use). They even made an automatic credit line increase on my Venmo credit account after deeming me unworthy. I'd have no problem with a bank closing accounts if there were a history of delinquency or terribly high credit utilization, but none of that is true. Stay away from Synchrony.

Set up auto pay not processed then paid by phone twice with representative still didn't process payment stated the bank couldn't process. I made payment online and plan to pay card in full never use again. I think their goal is to void 6 month interest free. Never use this Synchrony Bank!

I tried to get financed from Synchrony on August 11 2021 but they couldnt provide proper service for that. Their call center is trash, no one can ever help you so I gave up waiting on their approval letter and forgot about them. However after almost 2 months Synchrony bank sent me a letter that they erroneously mailed my PII (name, address and SSN) to a different person. It took them more than a month to acknowledge the breach despite the fact that I was calling them about my application every other day. After I called the bank regarding the breach they told me that I should deal with my PPI breach myself using free "Experian" credit monitoring services. They refused providing me credit monitoring services at their cost insisting that I must use "Experian" or nothing else. They don't reply my emails and their customer support over the phone is horrible. I am experiencing increased volume of scam calls as well. I am stressed over my credit data compromised which resulted in my health worsening. I ve seen the doctor and got medication prescribed. I want Synchrony Bank to pay 5 years of my credit monitoring services at Identity Guard with Ultra plan for 239.99 annual payment. I also demand emotional distress compensations in 1500$ for the stress Synchrony put me on caused by their negligence.
Desired outcome: 1200$ payment for credit monitoring services and 1500$ of emotional distress compensation.

Synchrony Bank changed paper statements to electronic statements without notice or without consent, so after not receiving a statement for more than a month they started aggressively calling about the account being overdue and needing a payment immediately. The account has been in good standing since the beginning and was always paid in full
In addition to very shady business practices, the "customer service" people are rude AF calling from a phone number listed as spam.
Avoid Synchrony Bank like the bubonic plague; this is an absolute garbage bank among the rest of American banks that are already garbage to begin with.
Closed my account
I have had an account with Synchrony Bank since 2018 when I purchased furniture to move into my new home. For the past three years I have paid on this account. I only had a one or two time late pay that was over two years ago when I lost my job but I still made my payments each month. I received a credit monitoring notice this morning that my account had been closed. I immediately called the bank to find out what was going on as I had not requested to close the account and still had a small balance owed. The customer service rep informed me that the bank made a decision to close my account based on my credit report showing late payments. I do not have any late payments or delinquent credit accounts and have not had any for the past three years. All accounts are paid every month on time. I had prior to made a large payment on my Synchrony account to help in paying off my balance sooner because I was preparing to make a new charge for another furniture purchase for my home. I asked that my account be reopened and was told that once it was closed it cannot be reopened. I am also concerned that closing this account will affect my credit scores to go down while I am in the process of negotiating a refine to get my rate lowered. I don't understand how callous Synchrony Bank can be to not take into consideration the efforts of a good paying cardholder. I considered myself as one of their good customers who have tried my best to keep my account with them in good standing but it seems that this is not the kind of customers that they want.I also have a Synchrony Care card that I have never used but I decided to call in and close it. I do not wish to have any accounts with a company who does not value or care about its members. I will submit a full payment to pay off the remaining balance and will no longer do any future business with this company.

I paid my full balance with Synchrony every month no matter what the amount was with my HSN card. It could be several hundred dollars & it was always paid early and in full. I never paid the minimum and I never was late.
All of a sudden they just stopped paying pre approved easy pays on my HSN card for no reason.
They just stopped making the easy pay forcing me to use a different card for my easy pays.
I will not even call them nor will I use this terrible bank. I am down to the smallest amounts on my easy pay and mostly everything is already paid and it was paid on time and in full.
Do not use Synchrony bank they offer no good customer service and they do not care about you as a customer and they do not honor the code of ethics and they brake the laws. I can not; NOT RECOMMEND THEM ENOUGH.

I was giving you a card for my AC based on my fixed income through SSI. Back in July I was put in the hospital for covid. I was late getting the payment to them I contacted them I explained the situation they said not to worry they would take away the late charges I was able to pay them $20 more than my usual payment just in case I had problems in August. When I went to pay August bill they had doubled my payment. Knowing I'm on a fixed income I cannot pay that they are shyster's they are horrible people and I can never reach anyone to talk to them that knows what the hell is going on and all they keep doing is calling me and calling me I cannot pay the amount they are trying to charge me.

I woke up to find out all my accounts with Synchrony were closed. Multiple, longstanding & high credit limit accounts! My care credit had a limit of $15, 000, Lowes $15, 000, Amazon $5, 500, PayPal $3, 500 and much more! Several of my accounts have been inactive due to the recent covid19 pandemic. I've been super cautious using my credit. Not wanting to cause debt! However, recently I decided to take advantage of the 24 month, 0% interest promotional rate on care credit for laser hair removal. It was around $5, 000. I've always paid on time and again the promotional rate was perfect. I've missed so many occasional beauty treatments again due to the pandemic. I can finally feel secure making bigger purchases and get back to some regular self care treatments! I've waited years to start the laser hair removal process. Then all of the sudden my credit vanished. The representative said the inactivity on my account and the recent large charge tagged me as high risk! High risk of getting my life back to normal! I've done business with them for years and always paid on time and paid off multiple accounts. In the blink of an eye my credit score will vanish! Which took years to establish! This is completely devastating and will affect how other lenders see me in the future. Other accounts could see that I literally lost thousands of available credit and close other accounts! This is truly ruining credit for so many hardworking people who care about their credit! I hope someone files a huge lawsuit and sues you for damages!

Stay Away From ALL Forms Of Credit With Synchrony Bank... you will regret not listening to me, I promise you!
I too have the EXACT same problem with Synchrony Bank! The difference however, is that my card balances are actually going down, not up. I have been in credit card debt for a couple of years, and about a year ago decided to stop buying things and just paying down my balances. As a result, my other credit cards such as Best Buy, Amazon, Discover, Capital One, and Home Depot cards have ALL given me CL increases over the last 6 months, thus causing my CS to actually go up nearly 33 points, and my available credit to go up my over $3,500 in total. (un-utilized).
However, when it came time for my yearly review by Synchrony bank, they closed my Walmart card entirely, closed my Dicks Sporting Goods card entirely, they lowered my Venus card entirely, Lowered the CL on my Summit Racing Card by a whopping $1,700, they lowered the CL on my Newegg card by $1,200, they lowered my Synchrony Care Care CL by $400, they lowered my Synchrony Health Care CL by $700... so all in all, they have either closed or lowered my CL on 100% of EVERY card that I have with them, resulting in closed accounts valued at nearly $5,000 alone, and another loss of credit in the amount of $4,000. As a result, my credit scare has dropped more than 40 freaking points because of Synchrony Bank, and I am sure because of that, I will likely be at risk of my good standing with other creditors and them penalizing me too if I don't get my CS back up by the next semi-anaul check.
Mind you, I have an absolutely PERFECT credit history with a 100% ALWAYS ON TIME payment record, and I have ALWAYS paid more than the minimum balance. I have NEVER missed ANY payment, EVER, not even on a car loan, a utility payment, a house payment, or even a landscaping payment. When I tell you that I have an absolutely PERFECT credit payment history, I am not exaggerating!
So while every other creditor that I have has increased my available credit lines, and even sent me both pre-approved AND pre-authorized loan offers, (which essentially guarantees loan approval), Synchrony bank is literally the ONLY creditor that I have which is punishing me by stripping my available credit from me and taking cards away from me!
Therefore I have made it a vow that I will NEVER apply for another Synchrony owed credit card ever again for as long as I live, and I will go further so as to teach my children to also stay away from doing business with Synchrony. I do not care if that means that I have to stop purchasing at all of my favorite stores entirely. I don't even care if that means that I can't finance a kidney transplant, I will NEVER engage in business with Synchrony Bank EVER again!
TRUST me when I say, STAY AWAY FROM SYNCHRONY BANK CREDIT CARDS & LOANS! As SOON AS you pay down your balance, they are GUARANTEED to lower your available credit down to a limit that is just below the available credit left after you submit your payment. You are NOT doing yourself ANY favors by paying off your balances with Synchrony, they absolutely WILL punish you.

Rest assured that Synchrony is well known for closing accounts for the weakest reasons. Synchrony closed seven of my accounts, also calling me high risk. As soon as the closures hit my credit report, my score jumped 25 points. Your credit will recover or improve. If a reputable bank were suddenly closing your accounts, you’d have reason to worry, but the frequency with which Synchrony closes accounts gives less weight to their actions. All of the reps are rude and condescending even the so called Supervisors. They are even worse than the reps. When you try to call to get an answer you never receive a direct response and it seems like they become bothered with your questions! They hang up on you so you can never receive the customer service survey at the end of the call that the rep is "unaware" of. Synchrony's business practices are unfair and misleading and they are unwilling to assist customers. When their online is having system issues, they do not take ownership of that and yet place blame on you as the customer. 8/3 @ 9:11 spoke to Omar in IT.
