Tesla Model Y
I leased a Tesla Model Y from Tesla in October 2020. I wanted to lease or buy a new Model Y when my 36-month lease is up in October 2023. At the Tesla Nambe store in April 2022, I discussed this with the salesman there. He (Darren) said "You can order it here now. Then you can put off the delivery date to October 2023." We did so from his computer at the store. I paid a $250 deposit.
Now when I check my Tesla account, it says that the car will be delivered in December 2022. I don't want the car then. I want it when my current Tesla lease is up.
I've spoken with Tesla customer service three times. They all say "cancel the order and place it later". When I ask about the $250, they tell me "you will lose your $250 deposit".
This is not fair. I'm a Tesla customer. I want to buy a new Tesla. I should not be treated this way.
Desired outcome: (1) promise me delivery of the new Model Y on October 10, 2023, or (2) refund my $250
High Pitched Sound Tesla Model S Plaid, software update issue
After the last software update, my car now emits a high pitched sound. This entire experience has been very frustrating especially with the purchase of a $150k+ vehicle.
The local Tesla service center made me bring my vehicle to their center only to confirm what I told them that this was a software issue. They should have known that and not made me bring the vehicle in.
Then a service manager finally contacted me after numerous complaints and told me she was pushing a software update to my car. It was not the current update 2022.36 that is supposed to fix this issue. And when I told her this, she totally backtracked saying there is nothing she can do
I see this software was released earlier this month yet I dont have it. I get it, you role them out but this is past the point of ridiculous. Every time I go in my garage I am reminded I spent this kind of money and have to listen to this awful high pitch sound coming from my car.
Desired outcome: Need the update NOW to fix this problem

Service
Received my new Tesla on 9/20. It has been in Tesla Service since 9/29. I had to call Roadside service to unlock the vehicle since it was completely locked, and that was not due to low battery.
I do not feel secure with a car that is new and in service and I'm not sure when I will get my car back. I was told there is a faulty electrical part that needs to be replaced but there is no technician to work on the car.
I am very disappointed in Tesla Service
Solar City' panels, now Tesla
Solar City's, now Tesla did a terrible install according to the Tesla inspectors, they have been leaking through the point of penetration to secure the panels. In contacting Tesla, they refuse to take responsibility and repair where the there is clearly water pouring in from the straps that hold the panels in place. I email L. Reed, and even attached a copy of the Solar City Contract where it's states clearly that they will repair at no cost to me. So far 3 rooms are affected where the panels are strapped to the roof. According to the inspectors the installation is nowhere near an acceptable to Tesla standards and would never pass their inspection. So, what's the next step?
Exhibit
iii) Repair Promise During the entire Lease Term, SolarCity will honor the System Warranty and will repair or replace any defective part, material or component or correct any defective workmanship, at no cost or expense to you (including all labor costs), when you submit a valid claim to us under this Limited Warranty (the “Repair Promise”). If we damage your Home, your belongings or your Property we will repair the damage we cause or pay you for the damage we cause as described in Section 6. SolarCity may use new or reconditioned parts when making repairs or replacements. SolarCity may also, at no additional cost to you, upgrade or add to any part of the System to ensure that it performs according to the guarantees set forth in this Limited Warranty. Cosmetic repairs that do not involve safety or performance shall be made at SolarCity’s discretion.
Desired outcome: Remove panels and repair the holds that the panels' anchors caused leakages, reinstall the panels IAW Tesla's standards for installs.
Software failure
I want to report an incident where Tesla Models S software indicated I had 21 rated miles and shut down on me. The tow truck driver and I had to spend 3 hours looking for the 12v battery and charge it so we can get the car in tow mode and also get the Supercharger to charge it. It cost me $300.00. I was 5 miles of a Supercharger and Tesla said I had 21 miles. Why would that happen?
Desired outcome: Compensation!!!
TESLA S 2013 and 2022
TESLA SUCKS!
You do not provide customer service. The original TESLA had the REAR AXLE BREAK WHILE DRIVING! Imagine my surprise!
Then it just happened to coincide with getting an email to my spouse that the new Tesla S she ordered one year ago was ready...
SUSPICIOUS TIMING?
I think so.
And then the big run around on getting a decent trade in price. Big takeaway: Your TESLA is not worth much at all!
Seriously.
This expensive car is NOT A KEEPER!
Think of it as a cheaply constructed computer that you need to frequently replace.
AND THEN...the new Tesla S 2022...
They don't even tell you to watch the videos online when you buy it! They give us supposedly our new car which has a broken panel under the control screen...and then take FOREVER to give us an appointment to see this problem...supposedly they are coming MONDAY.
Let's see.
Meanwhile they give us a big deal Microsoft Teams live session to train us on the car and let us ask questions...
HA!
They have trouble connecting us...and can only let us see pre-recorded videos that we should have watched three weeks ago when we paid A HUNDRED THOUSAND DOLLARS for this over-priced poorly made over-hyped under-serviced computer on wheels.
DO NOT BUY TESLA...the cars or the stock.
My new vehicle
I purchased a new car vehicle and it was delivered to the site for pick up. I went in to collect my new car and accepted delivery and only to be told there is a safety issue with the seat belt. The car had 15 miles at the time 78%. The car was left to complete the service only to receive alerts that the car was driven. The mileage was at 49, percentage 59%. My husband went to check with the dealership about the mileage on the car. He was told that the car was in an accident and is currently in the body shop. SAY WHAT. Tesla employees hit the car and no one contacted the owner. I paid for a brand new TESLA Model S PLAID, never saw the car, never drove the car, and no one said anything to me about the accident. Was it on my insurance? Was the Police involved? Who drove the car and hit it? I cannot accept this car. I cannot spend that type of money to be put in this situation. If the car wasn't ready on Saturday 9/10, then we should have been contacted prior. This is a horrible experience with purchasing this TESLA.
Desired outcome: I would like a brand new car directly from the factory ASAP. I ordered the car in June with delivery scheduled for the 10th. This should not happened to anyone.
Battery degradation
I have taken my 2016 Tesla S to your Santa Ana Service Center on multiple occasions to document my battery issues. In a nutshell, I am only getting 60% of estimated range. The battery health tests performed states things are within normal limits. I have performed all of the recommended tips, inclusive of calibration. I even had a faulty AC compressor replaced last month hoping it would improve my energy consumption.
Of concern, my service rep, Carlos Medellin, advised that since my vehicle was purchased in the secondary market, I was not being administered the same battery test provided to original owners. As the extended warranty is fully transferable, I don't think this will bode well for Tesla should this matter become litigated/ arbitrated and Carlos' deposition is taken. In speaking with the service manager, Kevin Smuckler, there isn't anything their center can do until a service/ warning light comes on? However, Kevin was kind enough to quote me 18k+ for a replacement battery.
I would appreciate a second pair of eyes on this issue (not Santa Ana facility). I would even be happy to pay for an agreed upon independent technician, if needed. Bottom line, I am open to suggestions. However, if Tesla is drawing the line in the sand, please provide me with "next steps" to initiate Arbitration.
Thank you for your prompt attention.

Uninstall and reinstall solar panels
I’ve had Tesla Panels installed in 2014. They were Solar City before they were Tesla. I signed a 20 year lease. I did not purchase them. I was able to save significantly every month on my every since they were installed. It’s now September 2022 and I’m in the process of re-roofing our house. It’s 20 years old. I was going to get this done in 2021 due to a leak near the panels but decided to hold off until this year. I was told by Tesla they were going to charge me 500.00 to un-install and re-install the panels and store them in my garage. I called again this year to get this done and was assigned a person by the name of Taryn Thomas out of Provo Utah. I live in Arizona. I have yet to speak with Miss Thomas. She is very difficult to get a hold of and only communicates with me via email. I was also told the cost would be 5,300! I was livid. All of my savings were to be thrown away by paying 5,300 to have them un-installed and re-installed. I’m not even purchasing these panels! I need help! I need help now.. Tesla is not very clear with you when dealing with re-roofs. They also don’t take responsibility when you have water leaks due to panels! I need resolution. Pls someone help us. My name is Evelyn Soto and my contact is [protected]@yahoo.com or can reach me at [protected].
Desired outcome: I want even to un-install them and re-install them at the original price of 500.00. How does it go from that to 5,300?!?
Tesla charged me $568 by mistake and wont refund me
I leased a Tesla Model 3 ( RN109488293 ) from Tesla, and after returning the vehicle on August 23, 2022, Tesla still charged my bank account $568 for September as if I had not returned the car.
I have sent about 30 emails and called many times, but Tesla does not have a real person that answers any of their phones, and I had to leave voicemails.
In reply to one of my emails, I finally received a return call from Giselle Acosta, a Lease Maturity Specialist, and she explained that there was some kind of mixup in their system, and when I returned the car, my billing account did not get automatically closed as it should have and that is why I got charged for another month.
She said she could not refund me for the $568 charge until the billing department closed my billing account. A week later, I still had not heard anything from anyone at Tesla, and I got another email saying they were going to charge my account again on September 23, 2022, for another $568.
I called and left another voicemail but could not speak to a real person, and no one called me back.
I sent another email saying I want my money back immediately because it's not my fault they made some kind of mistake and I need the money.
I got a reply email saying this:
"Any overpayment will go towards your excess wear and tear as well as your end-of-term charges."
I replied and said it was not an overpayment! They fraudulently charged me for a car I had already returned, and I want my money back now.
I have not heard back or received my refund, and I still can't talk to anyone at Tesla about all of the problems.
Its hard for me to believe it is legal for a company to charge me $568 for something I didn't get, and while I do understand mistakes happen, the fact that I cannot talk to anyone about the problem on the phone and they have not refunded me makes the whole thing look very scammy.
Desired outcome: I want an apology for all of the time I wasted trying to reach someone at Tesla and all of the frustration because I could not talk to anyone and a full refund of $568 for the "mistaken" charge and NO more future charges for anything.
Simple customer service
It’s been a few months since I purchased my Tesla and I have yet to receive a license plate. I called a few weeks ago because my temporary tag was expired and was told a new temporary tag was coming in the mail. I called again today, two weeks later, and they said we’ll get one overnighted to you. When I mentioned that I had called two weeks ago and was told I would be receiving one in the mail they said they only sent them to the people who had tags that were expired longer yet no one called to let me know. They said they were just relying on customers to call as they are just too busy. They are the ones that owe me the license plate but it’s my responsibility to continue to track it down. A simple call, text or email would’ve been sufficient to just let me know what was going on. Communication is key and Tesla is just too busy. I’m fine waiting on my license plate, just communicate with me and make sure I have the proper temporary tag. Seems a pretty simple task considering someone just purchased your car.
Desired outcome: Better customer service. Being hands off is OK but being completely MIA is not.
Service center
I have a Model S that has been in service since July 13 for a bad audio system. I have been told it was on parts hold. I was then told that the MCU arrived and was being installed but there may be other issues which they did not explain. Now remote access is disabled and I am unable to message service for updates. I have emailed with no response. I have called and no one picks up the phone. The service center is in Mt. Kisco NY and about an hour from my home or I would drive down and find out or myself which I am getting close to do. All I want is a clear update on the status of the vehicle and with no way to communicate it is impossible. Absolutely terrible service.
Desired outcome: Clear status update on my vehicle with an honest assessment of what is wrong and a reliable estimate of completion
Parts
I have sent 2 emails for a rear parking sensor and have not received anything back. I have not been able to drive my car for over a week. I do NOT need your service to install such a basic part but I do need the availability to get a part from Tesla on MY car. This is not Tesla’s car any longer and to be unable to get parts for it is not acceptable
Desired outcome: I want a rear parking sensor TODAY I have waited long enough. [protected]
12 volt battery
12 volt Battery Failure disables your vehicle with NO warning. Batteries are not available on the open market. Wait time for a battery from Tesla is a week to ship or they will have your car towed to the dealer (in my case is 300 miles). There are no other options than to contact Tesla and wait for them to ship a $160 battery while your car is disabled, undrivable, non-movable and completely f*cked. They will not fedex or 2nd day ship a battery. Had to close my business for a day (small business owner) and drive 5 hours to Salt Lake City from Jackson to pick up a battery ($160) and then drive home 5 hours. Loss of billable hours at work. For $155K Model X... this is total [censored]. Ready to sell my Tesla and buy a Porsche. Also ready to advertise on my Website teslareferralcodejacksonhole.com for others to buy Porsche and not Tesla. Figure it out already, it's 2022 (not 2016).
Desired outcome: Selling me Tesla Batteries in Jackson Hole Wyoming so this does not happen to another stranded motorist visiting Yellowstone National Park. Tesla owners Club of Jackson Hole President. Scot Anderson [protected]
Tesla Solar
I have been trying to have Tesla Solar cover charges for a water leak I’ve had with several Footings from the Panels. The leak started last year in 2021. They have returned my phone call 1 time only to tell me that they would charge me to have solar panels removed temporarily. Not even taking responsibility for their install. The water leak again started this year 2022 due to monsoons here in Az and they have yet to return my email and phone message. I was told I would get a return call and that was 2 weeks ago. Meanwhile my ceiling continues to rot due to water damage. I’ve had several contractors confirm the water is coming from footings. I have photos, and descriptions from them. I need help asap. This only began to happen after the solar panels were re-installed for the 2nd time in 2019. They were originally installed in 2014 and didn’t have any issues until they were re-installed in 2019. I need help! The contractor cost would be 2,500 to repair the holes but I would need solar panels removed. I need Tesla to cover those charges. At least take solar panels taken off at no cost while I repair these holes and my roof doesn’t get further damaged.
Desired outcome: This is an emergency. The contractor cost would be 2,500 to repair the holes but I would need solar panels removed. I need Tesla to cover those charges.
Failure to temporary remove solar panels for install of a new roof
In June 2022, I requested Tesla to remove the solar panels because my roof leaks when it rains and I need to get a new one installed. On July 8, 2022, I received documentation that I had to sign to start the process. It was signed and returned on the same day, I have not heard back from anyone. I've even sent a picture of a bucket surrounded by towels in my foyer I use to catch the water from the leaking roof. I have been a consumer since 2014 and I am very annoyed. The longer it takes the more damage is being done. This is a multi-billion dollar company and their lack of concern has put a nasty taste in my mouth!
Desired outcome: I need to speak with someone NOW to schedule a date for the removal and reinstall.
Tesla Model S Delay and price adjustment
I purchased a Tesla model S in March for $104k. A week ago I accidentally canceled the order then immediately tried to correct within 8 hrs. Spoke with three Tesla agents who said they could not undo the cancellation as “policy.” Unfortunately this cost me $7,000 and another $250 deposit and further delay of my order. Instead of August-September time frame, it is now November-February 2023 time frame and I am paying $111,000. I believe this company cares more about money than it’s customers. I am really disappointed and won’t be purchasing with them again or recommend this company to anyone.
Desired outcome: Get original purchase price of $104k and original delivery date of August-September.
Solar panels and power wall
I paid over $50,000.00 to tesla to install a system in my house. It has never worked. I have no access to the App, my electricity bill was supposed to go below $0.00, it has not budged.
They are not fixed it. Only promise to "escalate the condition". I filed a BBB complaint. They contacted me right away and scheduled a fix. They later cancelled the appointment and never rescheduled.
Desired outcome: Refund or correct the problem and pay for damages
Tesla solar panel lease
We purchased a home in March 2021 in as-is condition - it came with a 5 year old Tesla solar panel lease which we assumed liability for after thoroughly reviewing the lease agreement and contract requirements. Since it was a home purchase and had been 5 years since the system was installed, we requested a buy out quote but Tesla valued the system at $50k so we didn't proceed with the purchase. In October 2021 the panels started having issues communicating with Tesla and by November they'd stopped altogether. We had a bank of kw hours built up with our energy supplier from unused solar generated, so that lasted us until December but by January we were paying for electric from our supplier as well as towards our lease for "estimated production" per their contract. Per their contract though we should've only been billed for estimated production "because of your actions;
or (ii) you take some action that significantly reduces
the output of the System; (iii) you don’t trim your
bushes or trees to their appearance when you signed
this PPA to avoid foliage growth from shading the
System; or (iv) your System is not reporting production
to SolarCity (e.g. you have disconnected the
PowerGuide system or the internet connection at your
Home goes down on the reporting day), then SolarCity
will reasonably estimate the amount of power that
would have been delivered to you during such System
or reporting outages or reduced production periods
(“Estimated Production”) and shall consider Estimated
Production as actual production for purposes of this
paragraph. In the first year of the Term, Estimated
Production will be based on our production projections.
After the first year of the Term, Estimated Production
will be based on historical production for that month in
the prior year. If we bill you for Estimated Production
because your System is not reporting production to
SolarCity, and we subsequently determine that we have
either overestimated or underestimated the actual
production, then we will adjust the next bill downward
(to refund overbilling) or upward (to make up for lost
billing). You will not be charged for Estimated
Production when the System is not producing electricity
due to SolarCity’s fault, or if it’s due to grid failure or
power outages caused by someone other than you."
It was determined that the cause of the outage was not our fault, it was the fault of Tesla and so in the last 30 days I was able to secure a partial credit to our account for estimated production billings. That was cited as breach one on Tesla's behalf as they refused to not charge us for estimated production during the time from December 2021 until June 2022 per their contract stating they wouldn't.
Other contract breaches have to do with the repairs. Tesla made no effort to repair their system until May 2022 and only after multiple cancelled/rescheduled appointments. Per their contract they are responsible for making repairs and ensuring we are able to produce and measure production of the system. In not repairing the system for over 6 months they hindered our ability to produce and measure production and had no incentive to make the repairs because they were still illegally charging us for estimated production. Also per their contract they are responsible for cleaning up after their work on-site, which was not done and posed a safety risk to our child.
Tesla's system was determined to have needed repairs because of rodent activity on the panels. It was documented that Tesla did not install rodent barriers during the initial install 6 years ago and because of that, squirrels were able to access and burrow under the panels. In May Tesla finally diagnosed this issue and assumed responsibility for the damage to the panels and to our roof. They uninstalled the damaged panels and installed the rodent barrier. They finally returned in July 2022 to "finish" the repairs and verbally stated they wouldn't be fixing the roof despite previously assuming liability. Because of this they didn't do any repairs to the solar and we still have nothing in writing from them regarding next steps.
Per our side of the contract we maintain the landscaping to not hinder the panels. There are no trees near or hanging over the roof and we do everything else we are supposed to to make this system work properly. Despite that, our system still doesn't work and Tesla is most definitely responsible but won't finish their repairs or let us out of the contract due to their multiple breaches.
Desired outcome: We want Tesla to pay for the repairs to our roof due to their negligence as well as either let us out of our contract or allow us to purchase the panels at their current market value (given not being fully operational).
