The Auto Connection - Bad deal
Sold Me a Lemon - Avoid This Dealership! By Keith Pettigen from Baltimore Md I purchased a car from Auto Connection on Feb 23, 2024, and my experience has been nothing short of a nightmare. Within the same day of driving the car off the lot, I started experiencing major issues. Multiple lights came on the front dash, hot and cold meter is jumping up and...

These people are scammers, you pay double of what the car is, the sales people lie to your face, and the cars they sale are junk, but when you got bad credit they take advantage of your situation I've already called WAVY 10 and I've already filed a complaint with the BBB,
When I got my car I told them something was wrong with, they told me to bring it back up, the service department was already closed
So I bring it back up and told every excuse at why they could not fix the problem now my vehicle is in the shop with that particular problem and they all refused the fix unless I pay them so I'm out $18, 000 on a piece of junk do not trust these people
customer service
I bought a car from these people I knew I had some credit challenges due to illness but needed a vehicle. I found a chrysler sebring low on miles. Two days after getting the car it put me down they said they would send their mechanic since it was there fault which was 20 minutes away, but it took him three hours to get to me for some apparent reason. I was so scared he wasn't coming and that I would be stranded with my child I called enterprise rental car to come pick me up. A month later the location that I bought my car from in wilson, nc closed customers were given no notice. Went to make a payment and the doors were locked with a now closed sign on the door. When this happened they stopped reporting payment to the credit bureaus, account information wasn't being updated. Fast forwarding along approximately six months after that the car was told my insurance paid out completely on the over price raggedy car. Not only did they refuse to show my account as paid off they refused to send a letter to the dealership that I went to verifying the car was paid off. When I asked why as this they told me they were not giving me a letter to go to another dealer and that I could get another vehicle from them! I would never refer anyone to these immoral scam artist and thank god that I found a reputable dealer that not only sold me a low miles reliable car. I am paying cheaper for my lexus 350 than I was paying for auto connection raggedy sebring.

crappy overpriced cars and horrible customer service
I bought a car from Auto Connection two years ago. I did read the contract carefully before I did so, and I did realize the car was overpriced, but I'd just been through the worst few years of my life and my credit was lousy as a result; I was desperate. But I was also working and could easily afford the payments, so I figured it balanced out somewhat. However, though the carfax report showed no incidents, the vehicle was NOT in good shape. The doors on the driver side were very hard to close and made a horrible noise. Something in the electrical system was really screwed up. One day I had no brake lights, then I did but lost the headlights. The panel lights were off and on. The cd player played when it felt like it. The alternator was fine, when it was checked and I had replaced the battery. Then, about 8 months after I bought it, I became unexpectedly disabled. I tried very hard to keep up the payments but the money ran out pretty quickly, and I started getting further behind by the week. I also was unable to drive. Still, I hoped to catch up and keep it in case my situation changed. My roommate helped me with the payments when he could, but it wasn't fair to him to ask him to do it. I talked to the account manager (who changed numerous times during the year and a half the car was in my possession.) They let me make payment arrangements for sixty days, (which amounted to only paying 60% of what my payments were fir sixty days) but it helped very little and that sixty days ran out with no option to make more arrangements. I had told them that the disability was permanent but they kept calling repeatedly asking when I'd be able to pay, until a year after my disability, when I finally decided the best thing was to surrender it, and I did. I got an acknowledgment from them, saying they would sell the car and I would be responsible for the difference. I never heard another word until a month ago when I was served with a warrant in debt. My attorney said they should have sent me notice that they had sold the car, but they did not. I missed the court date because I could not arrange transportation. I now have a judgment against me for $5400. I know that I should have had the car checked out thoroughly before agreeing to pay the ridiculous price (I didn't know how ridiculous it was at the time, but 18 months after the purchase, I owed $9000 on it and book value if it had been in excellent condition was just over $3000. Be warned: it seems that their is only one person handling incoming calls, and I've waited on the phone for more than half an hour at a time, to talk to someone. I asked for an itemized statement and they told me they "don't do that." I have no idea what they were charging, or when.
I agree they overprice their vehicles, mine was priced for 10.500.00, but the blue book value for this car is only 1500.00-2000.00. It's a 2006, not worth the price I'm being charged for it. I tried selling it to pay it off, payments are 346.00 a month, I could be paying for a new car for this price. My truck broke down and it would cost more to fix then it was worth, my job requires me to have a vehicle, so I went here, I needed something asap, but these payments and price of their vehicles are absurd. I understand they have to make a profit, but they should be ashamed of themselves charging these kinds of prices and making payments this high for a used vehicle. I WILL NEVER TELL ANYONE TO USE THEM OR USE THEM MYSELF EVER AGAIN.
We’re sorry to read this negative review. We can see that you have certainly had your share of personal and financial problems in the past year. At The Auto Connection we try and work one on one with each of our customers to secure payment terms that are agreeable to both parties. We try to be flexible however when payments do get into serious arrears, we are forced to take action. It’s tough for everyone involved.
Please know that all of our vehicles undergo a rigorous 101 point inspection before we deem them worthy to sell to our customers. Many vehicles have a 1 year warranty and of course pricing and terms depend on the vehicle and a number of other factors.

customer service
I am very disappointed with Auto Connection for several reasons. First off the sales person I dealt with was very rude, he was on a personal call while we were discussing options as far as vehicles available for me. I thought that was very rude. Second, I asked the salesmen once i selected a car would they put gas in it, he said no. two weeks after having my car the power steering column went out and brakes were grinding. They offered no assistance as far as transportation back and forth to work and even the store manager was very non chalant about my issues and concerns Now after that the car isnt starting. I am so fed up and it hasnt even been a full month of having this vehicle. Now, I totally understand poor credit you dont get top of the line products. However, customer satisfaction should play a role if you want to represent your company in a positive way. My experience with this company is by far the worst experience ever.

the worst customer service.
I saw their ad on tv for $1 down. Yeah, don't believe it. Spoke with sales person don't have good credit but he said he could help me just the same. He came back with "we have three options... $1 down, $350 down, and for you $1000 down. " on that day I told him I didn't have $1000 down, thanked him and left. The following day I called back as I was blessed with a loan from a friend. He said he would call me back in a couple of minutes. Never got a call. Called him back and he said I have an old car (Named make, model, and year)... It was not worth the $he wanted. He then said he'd call me on the following monday... No call again. By the end of the week I walked the manager and he acted like he didn't really care... Had an attitude... Made excuses for sales person. I went to hall nissan and saw matt faller and was in a nice truck within a week. I will never waste my time at autoconnection again.
service
I have read what complaints are on this board, and am in total agreement with them. The service on these vehicles is horrible. I have barely had my car for a year and 6months in I had to get a transmission repaired. They sell you on the fact that you can finance the repairs, as well (supposed to make it easier). Since then every two months something else has gone wrong with the vehicle. And now I come out to a dead battery one morning and take it back there and now they are saying that I need to replace the engine...repairs to the vehicle will cost me $2700 hundred dollars...WHAT A JOKE!.You contact the finance side of the company and they don't know anything thats going on at the dealership. Bottom line they need to shut down this dealership, they want your money, but want to continue to push a crappy car on you and want yu to pay for something that you should not have to so soon. NO one deserves this type of treatment.

It is our policy to meet with any of any customers who have a grievance. We wish you had contacted the general manager regarding this issue at the time it happened so that we could work together to solve any issues. We’re sorry to hear that you are unhappy with us.
Please know that every vehicle we sell undergoes a rigorous 101 point inspection process by our ASE certified mechanics. We work with every customer to secure the most agreeable payment terms possible. Terms are based on the individual’s credit, the price of the vehicle and other factors. As you mentioned in your review we do sometimes help our customers out by financing their repairs. We are not always able to do that, but when we feel it might help a customer, we do offer it. We’re sorry you didn’t like this option. We wish you best.

repairs/crappy car
This is my second car from The Auto Connection. My first one had no issues. I loved the car. It was a 2006 Ford Focus. Unfortunately, it was totaled by some idiot not paying attention. This second car I bought from them, I had to take it back within 30 days. Took it to them 4 more times since then. Same problem is still happening. It's been 11 months now and they are just figuring out the problem. Now these ###s want me to get on some payment plan and put $300.00 down to fix something that should've been fixed last year for FREE! They are out of their damn minds. I have been polite and patient for way too long. The finance department does not care about me having to pay a ridiculous amount for the repair. They are a bunch of rude, unprofessional HEFERS sitting in cubicles that are no help. NEVER AGAIN WILL I DEAL WITH THESE PEOPLE!

customer service
I purchased a 2005 Ford Focus from the Auto Connection in 2008. Not because my credit is bad. I have decent credit. I was on my job for a short period of time and needed a car QUICK, didn't have a large down payment at the time and Winter was approaching. The brakes were almost completely GONE and I had the car less than 6 months. So I paid to have the brakes replaced. Got into a car accident 6/2010. Not my fault. The accident happened 1 day after my car payment was due. I had full coverage. I called them (Auto Connection) the next day to inform them of the accident and that I was waiting to see if the car could still be repaired or if it was totaled. These IDIOTS still tried to collect a payment . I told them if the car can be repaired, I will pay you, but until I find out, I am NOT paying anything. I found out about a little over a week later that it was totaled. Meanwhile these idiots are still calling. One doofus representative called one of my references and asked if my car was really totaled! My reference gave them a piece of her mind. :-) I called them back yelling and said, "Why don't they call my attorney or the insurance company if you think I am lying?". By the time they received the pay off balance, a month and a half had passed. Before they received the pay off balance during that whole time, they basicly told me that they think I am lying and my car will get repossessed. I laughed and said well, I can give you the address to the junk yard and you can pick it up from there. Each acct manager that called me during that month and a half got called all kinds of names. Who lies to a finance company and says their car is totaled?! That is crazy! They even sent a repo guy to my house! I will never deal with them again!

bad vehicle, awful customer service
purchased a 2002 Chevrolet Malibu for the Auto Connection in Newport News. I was told there was no car fax report for the vehicle, but all the vehicles are reconditioned after purchase. Not true, had busted speakers and torn roof. When I asked about making payments and the high interest rate, I was told I could make early payments, and double payments as I needed to pay the car off early. I later found out this was not true, I can pay more, but they do not apply it to my account until the next due date. (They keep you trapped)
Shortly after the warranty expired the car broke down. It needed an intake valve gasket replaced. This particular issue was a very well know, documented, and litigated issues with these vehicles. Every mechanic I spoke to and auto parts dealer was very well aware of this issues, it does not seem likely that the dealership did not know the quality vehicle it was selling. Chevrolet settled a class action lawsuit due to this issue. I had to pay $900 to repair. Shortly after that the car has had other issues I have repaired with the radiator and water pump. I contacted the company and asked how to possibly get a new vehicle because the one I was sold is defective, worth less than $3000, and was sold to me for $11000. I was told to go to the dealership where I purchased the car and they could work something out. When I got there, the manager told me it was ridiculous that someone would tell me that and the only thing he could do is sell me another car if I paid down my current vehicle to $2500. Again, I was lied to. I then recontacted Michael Wayne investments I was told to speak with a Mr. Barret, but I have to call back. I have called back numerous times and left messages for several supervisors, and never received a call back. Now the car has an engine issue. Bad credit does not equal uneducated or ignorant. I realize the risk and what I have to pay, however I did not expect to be taken advantage of.
First and foremost, we want you know that we take customer service very seriously. We are sorry we didn’t meet your expectations. When it comes to financing, we work with every customer to secure the most agreeable payment terms possible. Terms are based on several factors that include an individual’s credit history and the price of the vehicle. To ensure the quality of our used car inventory, our ASE-certified mechanics inspect all of our used cars during a 101-point inspection before they are sold.
If a customer has a grievance, we encourage them to contact the general manager. We look forward to working with you to resolve any outstanding issues.
The Auto Connection
This is how they trap people whom have credit issues. We aren't stupid but we had a need and they know they have the advantage and we do live in a commonwealth state so what we signed we agreed upon this sucks ugh!
bad customer service and harassment
My problem is with Michael Wayme Investments, a year and a half ago I got hurt, and had to stop working me and my wife tried to make arrangements about the payments, they told me and my wife that we could be on the hardship program which is a joke, they told us to fax in the paperwork and would put us on the hardship program, but the thing about it they lied, seem like every day they call about a payment, they keep on harassing us, and then they turn on that stupid alarm, and not only that they so call give you a case worker, but they change every four days. I wish if I could get a lawyer or something, and one more thing I fail to mention, right now I waiting for disability to get approve, but right now my wife is taking care of the car note out of her disability check, but they keep on harassing us, again I wish I could get some legal advice on what to do, if anyone could help on going through or been through same thing please email me at [protected]@live.com I would be please to heat from you.

car quality / customer service
I purchased a vechicle from them in October of 2010, when I got it the car seemed to be a perfectly running vehicle until January hit and the engine blew. I took the car to them but it wasnt covered because I was over the mileage so my grand total was 3500 to fix the car plus the 13000 I still owed on it. In the end its ### so make sure when and if you decide to get a car there get it thoroughly inspected elsewhere, because if they would have inspected my car as they claimed I wouldnt have overheated the first day because it had no anti-freeze and they would have know the oil pump was bad which was the cause of my engine failure. Unfortunately no sighns were shown and I guess Im just #[censored]outtaluck

scam
I've heard many stories of used car dealers being untruthful etc, but the dealer at the Newport News, VA The Auto Connection takes the cake. He tried selling me a used 2004 Chevy Cavalier with 75, 000 miles for nearly $11, 000 which is absurd, being that the car was only $14, 000 brand spanking new. It's 7 years old now and has 75, 000 miles! The blue book...

I am beyond outrage at the poor customer service I received from your Auto Connection yesterday around 5:40 pm – 7:00 pm. Their Cashier didn’t represent Michael Wayne Investment in a professional and courteous manner.
I verbally authorized a payment of $190.00 however; the Cashier took it upon herself to run my debit card through twice taking $199.87 out of my account. This is consider fraud and against the law. Instead of owning up the fact that my card account number was submitted twice my bank was blamed. It was stated I needed to talk to my bank because I didn’t have enough money in my account and they only received $9.97. How would the cashier know to take this exact amount out of my account unless after running the initial $190.00 she saw I had a balance of $9.97 left and she input this amount to take out of my account? If there were insufficient fund the card declines the payment and not submit any other amount in lieu of the initial payment. The amount $9.97 may not be a lot of money to you but that was all the money I had left for food until Thursday.
When I explained this to her she was un-sympathetic to my situation and refused to correct her error. Please note this is not the first time an unauthorized charge have been taken from my debt card. On September 2008, I discovered this happen when the cashier took an additional $120 from my Wachovia Card along with my payment of $226.80. Please note the first time this happen I had to report it as fraud to Wachovia Bank and thought it was a simple mistake on the cashier part. However, this is a pattern this is not building trust. As a customer I don’t feel safe giving my debit and credit numbers over the phone especially since your worker willingly broke the law by committing a blatant fraudulent act. Despite the fact my bank confirmed what the cashier did over the phone when the rep from bank talked to her the cashier still refused to acknowledge her mistake, apologize or refund the unauthorized charge or stick to the agreement I had established with Mr. Yarbrough.
I am very angry and wish to be refund $16.00 the charge my bank charged me to get this mess fixed caused by Michael Wayne Investments and the $9.97 for the charge that I didn’t authorize (By not funding the $9.97 back to my account you are keeping an unauthorized charge). But most of all an apology. I never ever call Auto Connection authorizing a payment with full or partial knowledge that I didn’t have adequate funds to cover the charge. I always call my bank beforehand. So I know the funds were in my account. I know on yesterday before I called Auto Connection there was enough to cover the charge of $190.00.
PLEASE IF YOU EVER BUY A CAR FROM THEM NEVER MAKE YOUR PAYMENT USING A DEBIT OR CREDIT CARD.

I got a car from Auto connection and after 11 months my transmission went I was paying 422 monthly for a 2008 impala they wanted me to finance some more money to fix a transmission they say would cost me over 2000 to fix then I find out that year car not even worth 500 in good condition so I towed it to dealership left it and came home now they want me to pay over 7000 for this car is don't even have what about the 5000 I already paid this company ridiculous preying on the poor not good .If anyone has any advice about please post. JA
Michael Wayne Investment company has contacted me a work on at least 3 occasions when I have repeatedly explained to them that I refuse to discuss my private business while clocked in and on my work phone that has recorded calls. Now when they call, I jus hang up since they don't seem to understand words. They have also called my phone in upwards of 7 times in 1 day, usually back to back they have also made just as many calls to family members and friends that I listed as references when I filled out the application for the car. Earlier today, I received an email from them to confirm that I authorized them to take money out of my bank account. This was a lie. I never spoke to them to make this agreement. There customer service agents are extremely rude and do not listen. The way they run their "business" is disgusting
I am quite familiar with the lemons that are sold by The Auto Connection. I ran into some mechanical problems only two weeks after my car was purchased.Their mechanics fixed all but one problem. That too was after I mentioned the Lemon Law to them. If it's one thing I hate it's man inhumanity to man. No matter what financial situation you're in or financial difficulties you are facing it doesn't give anyone the right to exploit you due to them. May be The Auto Connection's customer relations policies need to be enforced by those individuals who wrote them. Customer relations can make or break any company. Never forget why Jesus over turned the tables in the temple. People were practicing the same deceptions and exploitations then as they do today. There is always a price to pay for any ungodly act. I can only pray they see the wrongness of their ways and correct them. They have always treated me with respect no matter what situation I was addressing or making known to them. We to need to examine ourselves before placing blame. Sometimes we have a tendency to turn a pleasant day into an unpleasant one by the manner in which we approach a service provider. Your tone can make all the difference in your treatment. Don't forget that you have three fingers pointing at you when you point the one. Go and make a difference in the life of others and be blessed by doing so. We all have bad days. A smile and a sympathetic word can turn a cloudy day for someone into a day of sunshine.
MY Vehicle is included in my bankruptcy. My payments increased to cover the vehicle yet this isc3 rd month in row they cut tit off. Their emergency 24 hr number does not work. This his is illegal what what they are doing

I am confused... I thought that if you filed for Bankruptcy that the loan is wiped out BUT you had to turn in the car if it stilled had a lean on it. If you choose to keep the car then you still had to pay for it.
I don't like the ideal that they turned my car off and I was out and could not get a code to get home these ppl and the company sucks really bad do not get a car from them
Theses r the worst ppl to deal wit they r no help wen u have a low income
yes i had to turn my car back in because i'm retired now an can not afford the $414.00 a month they told me they would sell the car and that i would be responsible for the rest of my loan that is not a good way to run a company i told them that if they would reduce the payment down to $200.00 a month i would keep the car they came down to $315.00 a month but that was still to high for me . so i told them to pick the car up they keep turning the car off
THESE PPL ARE THE WORST PPL TO DEAL WITH, BACK IN 2011 I HAD SOME HARD TIMES SO THEY PICK UP MY CAR THEN I RECEIVE A LETTER IN THE MAIL SAYING THE AUCTION I THOUGHT IT HAD A 08 (AUG) COME TO FIND OUT THE WAY THEY MADE THE NUMBER LOOK LIKE IT WAS THAT, BUT THE AUCTION WAS IN 06 (JUN). NEVER HEARD FROM THEM SINCE THE AUCTION LETTER NO SUMMONS ABOUT COLLETING ANY MONEY OR BALANCE FROM THE AUCTION. THEN LAST YR I ENTER A PROGRAM TO HELP MY CREDIT A PROGRAM THAT JUST DISPUTE MY DEBT AND I RECEIVE A LETTER WITH A BIG DRAFT STAMP ON WITH THE SAME AMOUNT ON IT FROM 2011 BUT NOW THE DATE WAS 07/12. HOW BOUT MY HR MANAGER CALL ME IN THE OFFICE ON THURS 05/16/13 SAYING SHE HAS A GARNISHMENT IN HER OFFICE IM LIKE OK I KNOW I HAD FELL AT HARD TIME IN 2011 I WAS ALL FOR WHO & WHAT IT WAS TIL I SEEN IT WAS FROM MICHEAL WAYNE INVESTMENTS JUST 10 MONTHS AGO I OWED THEM $5700.00 AND HAVE KNOW PROBLEM PAYING THAT BACK BUT TO GET A GARNISHMENT SAYING I OWE THESE PPL $9600.00 NOW FROM INTREST AND MY COURT DATE IS 09/03/13 AND YOU TRYING TO GET MONEY BY GARNISHING ME BEFORE WE GO TO COURT. PLEASE PPL DO NOT DO DEALING WITH THESE PPL THEY ARE SNAKES ON THE LOW LOW
fraud and scam
This company has failed upon their written authority on repairing such repairs that were needed upon us purchasing a vehicle. Should I say more? I shouldn't, except the fact of paying another $450.00 over the purchase price to own...

Your story seems ideal, but you sound as if your point of view is from that of someone with a vested interest in the company instead of a customer.
Wow that seems unfortunate. I feel lucky to even have a car, and the auto connection gave me that chance. I have filed bancruptcy once and have had 2 reposessions. What saved me was having a couple good car loans and also an outsanding employment record. I got a 2nd chance buying a car from here and thought I would riding the HRT for the rest of my life. My vehicle had an issue during the warranty, and the problem actually reoccured outside of the warranty and they still fixed it! That's their policy! I know that if I didn't feel comfortable with their APR or warranty I wouldn't have bought. I trusted my gut and I'm glad I did. Now I can trade in my vehicle after $1500 balance is left and they will pay the whole $1500 for me! Sorry you had a bad experience, go with your gut before you make a big purchase thats my only advice.
I have had the worse experience of my life buying a car from the Auto Connection. The customer service was awful. They didn't even fill up the gas tank when I bought the car. When my license plates came in, they didn't even call to let me know that I need to pick them up.
I was experiencing problems with the starter in my car and I've been to the Auto Connection Three times in one month to get the starter repaired, but they don't want to honor their warranty. The first time, I took the car to have the starter looked at, the service manager kept starting the car over and over and said there is nothing he can do. He didn't even examine the starter. The second time I took the car to them was because the engine light was on and the codes came on for the ignition coils. The service manager didn't even want to look at the car then. I had the car examined by a third party and they told me exactly what was wrong.
Here's the bad part. I had an 8am appointment, but I was told it would be 3 to 4 hours before they would even look at the car. More than 6 hours passed by and I did not receive a phone call so I called them. They refuse to fixed the starter. Instead they opted to change the spark plugs. They had my car for more than 8 hours. Does it take that long to change spark plugs? They didn't even call me when the car was ready. They kept passing the buck so that the warranty will expire so that they won't have to fix the car. They didn't even give me a receipt or a work order so that I can see what they did to the car. They told me I have to wait 2-3 business days. Am I suppose to take their word for it? The best part is when I got in my car to drive home and saw that the gas tank was on empty.
But then again, what do you expect when you buy an overpriced, high mileage car with a sky high interest rate from a man in a cape with a dancing dog. The Auto Connection is the most unprofessional business I've ever been to.
I'd just like to say to the Auto Connection, thanks for absolutely nothing. I've just been bamboozled.
I agree. I have had problems with the Auto Connection fixing the repairs on my car that I had less than a month. I've made three trips to the auto connection to get my car fix and they keep stalling so that the warranty can expire so that they won't have to do the work. They have bad customer service and they are very unprofessional. A company that takes advantage of people shouldn't be in business. But then again, what do you expect from a man in a cape with a dancing dog.
