unauthorized charges
The store allowed an unauthorized person to purchase tires, and other items with my visa debit card that has my picture on it. I do not understand why they would allow a customer to make a purchase using a visa debit card with out asking for another form of identification, as well as a pin number. I have been violated by the unauthorized usage of my visa card. I believe the person may know someone with in this particular store because they passed several Pepboy locations to complete this transactions without having proper identification to decline the purchase. I would like my money back. I have reported this to Pepboy Corporate Offices, nothing has been done, and it has been reported to my local police department. I've also spoken with the manager who suggested that I speak with the corporate office in reference to this matter. I would like assistances with the return of my $700 transaction.

scam and cheating
I recently bought a 90 model truck with its original battery and cables with the intention of resell. I went to Pep Boys to purchase a new battery on Tuesday April 7, 2009. I promptly went home and installed the battery only to discover that my truck would not start. Suspecting the battery had no juice, I had my boyfriend come over and give me a jump... sure enough it started up, but when I turned the truck off, it was completely dead again. I was scheduled to work later that day and decided to take the battery back to Pep Boys the next day for an exchange.
When I arrived at Pep Boys I asked them to check the battery. I bought a bad battery and wanted an even exchange for a good one, not a recharge of the bad one I had bought. I've had batteries checked before and know that it doesn't take a very long time to check if they are good, and when they had my battery for more than ten minutes I began to suspect they were recharging. I asked them what was going on they said that the battery was a perfect battery, and that it should have started my truck with no problem, and it would only take about 30 minutes more of charging, which was time I didn't have.
If the battery was so perfect, why did it require 40 or more minutes of recharging? I told the manager that I wanted an exchange with a new battery since I just bought the battery yesterday and it didn't work the second I installed it. He told me that would void my 90 day warranty. He told me I must have left something on all night, even though I had just told him the truck wouldn't start the VERY second the battery was installed.
After a few minutes of arguing, I accepted the exchange and demanded the number to his corporate office or at least a regional manager or superior, which he refused to supply. He said I could get any information I needed online. He told the counter person something in Spanish and she gave me my receipt. It now says 'returned without receipt' 'no warranty' even though I had my receipt.

I dropped my stang off for a tire replacement on sun 7/27/08 and was told by the service dept mngr that he would have it "rush delivered" in 2 days. When thur came and went we called down there and a diff girl said "he" the service mngr, lied to you it won't be here till mon the earliest. we don't even have 2 day rush delivery. we were pissed but w/e. still needed a tire. So, mon came and we got a call from the mngr that the tire was "here, bruing the car down and we'll put it on for ya". We said you HAVE the car. He said, I do? Yeah and you EVEN have the keys. we just dropped them off with a dude last night (sun). He said he couldn't find my car and long story short it was stolen the ight before. So now i have no tire and no CAR!
He even had the balls to say "well i'll save th tire for ya". lol. we said what the *** we gonna put it on ***!
On 9/25/08 I went to Pep Boys for replacement of store-brand tires that wore out after 33, 000 miles. The receipt from the original purchase indicated a 60, 000 mile warranty. So, I went out of my way for what I expected to be a good pro-ration adjustment.
The warranty on those tires is now 40, 000 miles. Most of these tires were not lasting more than that, so the warranty was adjusted as a result. The service advisor, citing company policy, said that my pro-ration claim was based on the current 40, 000 mile warranty, not the 60, 000 mile warranty in effect at the time of purchase.
I get that the money at stake is only about $20 per tire. But I'm irritated that they overstated the tire performance, ratchet down the warranty after the fact, and then don't prorate the assorted fees that come with a tire purchase and, at about 50% of the cost of the tire, seem excessive. I filed a complaint on the corporate website; let's see how that goes.
Dear Jean,
As an ex-Pep Boys employee, I have heard so many stories such as yours. When I worked for them in the 90's, customers came first, no matter what. I am a female with many years automotive experience under my belt and I can assure you, this would have never happened at my store. As an ex-assistant manager and service advisor, my main objective was seeing that the female customers were treated with as much equality and respect as the men. And each situation SHOULD be handled individually.
This manager handled your situation very poorly and should have been rperimanded.
I have seen good managers fired and bad managers promoted, so what do you expect?
poor service, rip off
Just voicing a complaint about the Pep Boys in my local area. Of the 8 people who I saw that were "working" there, the only person who was actually helping customers was a cashier. The service department associates
need a personality service to help them with their skills. They were complete ###s disguised as functioning human beings who obviously didn't care about the fact that the economy is bad and they are lucky to have jobs as it is. Someone should remind these poor souls that the other other work they'd be suited for is perhaps McDonald's but even they are smarter and more helpful. After trying to rip me off on a sale, the 2 service associates I was discussing my possible purchase with were useless. After 1 hour or discussion (them quoting me an incorrect price and then whining because I was trying to hold them to it) I left the store with my money in hand before my head exploded. More importantly for Pep Boys though, they lost the $400.00 I was prepared to spend there. This store is probably heading for closing within the year but I can see why as they must not pay their employees to well because their poor attitudes are a real turnoff to the customers. The cashier was very nice and friendly when I walked in but too bad the stupid, ignorant sales dept. rejects ruined it for Pep Boys. I'd rather stick myself in the eye with a straight pin then ever walk back into that store again. Incidentially, I ended up spending more money at another auto store but did so with a smile as I'd never even buy so much as a key chain at Pep Boys.

failure and negligence
Had a problem where my 2003 Dodge Dakota overheated on March 15, 2009 at 3 am. Called a tow company and was towed to Pep Boys in Parsippany, since they were going to be open on Sunday.
When they open they took my truck in and said that it need a new radiator. Never showed me the old one. I told the to do it. On Monday I picked up the truck.
No more than 12 minutes out and the same exact thing happened. Had it towed back.
After a week of trying to get called they finally said it needed a new head gasket and after charging me $1000 for the radiator they wanted now to charge me $1500 for this, I flipped.
Then after calling and calling a week goes by again, and they said that the head was warped and that they were going to replace the engine at their cost.
No calls and then on Thursday, April 2, 2009 was told to come and pick up the truck. When I got there, they told me that they were not going to replace the engine nad basically tuff luck.
Shoddy work and negligence.

awful company
My car broke down in December 2008 and was towed to Pep Boys on 23rd and Ritner in Philadelphia. The employees were talking poorly about me in Spanish, not knowing that I am fluent, calling me crazy because they said nothing was wrong with my car. They asked me if I was capable of backing my car out of their shop and when I turned my ignition on, whining noises and knocking sounds were coming from under the hood. I asked the mechanic to listen to the sounds because they were not normal. They looked over the car again and then told me that the pullies were loose and needed to be tightened. I left because the shop was closing bt would open at 10am the next day. Not only did they keep my car until 4pm without calling me, I missed work and lost money from that. When I called them, they had a list of repairs that were estimated around $600. I thought that seemed high for 'nothing being wrong' so I looked up prices online for the parts they mentioned. They were charging me obnoxious mark ups and I let them know that. The price came down to a little over $300 and I found that reasonable. The replaced my alternator and tensioner for the timing belt. They finished my car and I thought everything was fine. A couple months later my car lost power as I was driving and broke down in the middle of the highway. The situation was almost identical to the initial problem I had in December so I called Pep Boys because the timing belt was broken off of the alternator and that was exactly what they had 'fixed' before. Since the parts are covered by a warranty from them, I took my car to the nearest Pep Boys which was located at 42nd and Market in Philly. They told me that a faulty part had been installed by the other Pep Boys and that they would replace the part at no charge, but the labor would be $212. I thought this was not fair because I just paid for that repair and they were responsible for installing a faulty part. When I went in to the store, I saw the part that was broken. The tensioner snapped off in my car and caused other damage. The tensioner was the original part from the factory, not the new one the other pep boys charged me for. I brought this to the attention of the store manager. He said he would give me a new part for free (note- i already paid for the part that was not actually put in my car). I don't understand what their motives were, I guess they were racking up my bill because I complained about the markup they tried to do to me initially. I am disgusted that I had to pay for the labor costs again and even more disgusted that they did not take responsibility for the mistake. I will never return to Pep Boys again and should have known better in the first place.

oil change
Recently i had visited a Pep Boys for an oil change for my 2004 Mustang. I gone there before without any problems. This time for some unknown reason my car has been in the shop for an oil change for over 45 minutes, which does not usualy take that long to perform this kind of job. Which got me a little worried. Finally after asking for my car, it was ready...

On the 12th Thursday of February 2009 I brought my Infiniti G35 coupe to Pep Boys on Kirkwood Hwy Wilmington, DE to get new tires and a battery installed. They sized and fitted my vehicle with new tires, however they could not do the battery since I had run short on time. They advised me to stop back when I had more time. At or about 1600 hrs (same date) I returned to Pep Boys and requested the simple task of changing my battery (SOUNDS SIMPLE?)Well lets just say I should have bought the wrench and did it on my own. They pulled my vehicle into the garage and first checked my original battery life and found it to be in poor condition. I then took a seat in my driver seat and watched as they took my old battery out and put the new one in. The employee hooked up my hot wire first (which is a NO-NO I am told) then tried to hook up the ground, however the ground did not reach the negative terminal. The employee said he was going to have to get an extender. I then advised him to turn the original ground wire around so it was closer. He tried it and it worked (Duh!) Anyway he then asked me to try and start my car, I did so and nothing happened? He then said hold on for a minute as he got the Charger Box (you know, the thing they use to charge your battery) well having a new battery already they ran full power to it at 100% SPARKS WERE FLYING 3 SEPARATE TIMES! (THE DUMB~A**)HOOKED FULL FORCE POWER TO MY BATTERY POSITIVE FIRST THEN NEGATIVE. DOSE AN ASE TECH LEARN THAT IN SCHOOL? I THINK NOT. ALL THE INTERIOR LIGHTS IN MY VEHICLE GOT SUPER BRIGHT! BLINDING WHITE? I asked why and he said it was because he had the juice all the way up since my car did not start. He looked more confused then me. He then jumped the vehicle and it was started finally. I then pulled out of the garage and right away felt a problem! I at that point noticed my VDS light and SLIP were on in my dash. I pulled back up to the garage (still in the parking lot) and said "You did something to my vehicle" They had me pull back inside as another employee plugged in some code reader device. He started to scratch his head and said "I checked all your fuses and there fine" I asked then why is my light on? THEY DO COME ON FOR A REASON! He said he did not know what happened except that my VDC and SLIP control no longer functioned and to just bring it back in the morning so one of their master techs could look into it. Reluctantly I did so and returned the following morning. The so called master tech scratched his head and said he did not know what's wrong. The (MT) Master Tech advised that I bring it to the Infiniti dealership and have them fix the problem and that they would just pay the dealer to fix it. The store manager agreed and gave me a business card to give to Infiniti. Well I went home and parked my car in the driveway and then called Infiniti of Westchester(Pa)and told them my problem. I spoke to the Service Manager named (Brenden) and explained the issue. They said they could not give me a loaner until the following Monday and to bring it right to them ASAP. Well I decided I would try to bring it early and just have my wife follow me to the dealer and drop it off. Well NOW MY CAR DIDN'T START! headlights worked, radio worked, horn sounded. But my "WINDOWS DID NOT WORK, POWER LOCKS DID NOT WORK, TRUNK RELEASE DID NOT WORK" OH, DID I SAY MY CAR WOULD NOT START? I had to ask Infiniti to send me a tow at Pep Boys expense. A day later Infiniti called me and said we found out what happened! Pep Boys fried your computer. I said ok call me when its ready. The next business day that followed I was called again by Infiniti and advised my car was fixed with a price tag $1, 950.12 I said Yea, remember Pep Boys made this problem... The dealer said they talked to Pep Boys and they said since any number of things could cause my vehicle to blow its computer THEY ARE REFUSING PAYMENT ON MY CLAIM! Well I needed my vehicle back so I could go to work. I had no choice but to pay the dealer. I called Pep Boys and gave them an ear full, but I am not even close to done. I asked the Mgr of Pep Boys "How dose a certified ASE mechanic screw up putting a battery in a car. He said they don't. I asked well how did your employee mess up my car then? He said the guy that put the battery in my car */was not ASE certified/*. I said YOU HAVE A HUGE SIGN IN FRONT OF YOUR STORE THAT SAYS "CERTIFIED ASE MECHANICS ON STAFF" TO SERVICE MY CAR NEEDS. What happened to that? He advised not every shop employee was ASE certified, and you don't need to be to put a battery in a car. I said where dose it say that on the sigh, he said it dose not. I said that was misleading to the customer who thinks a certified person Not an average Joe working on my car. I brought my vehicle to them in trust and good faith of the sign ASE (basically means they have schooling on what they do as well as experience)and they let JO~BLOW touch a $30, 000 vehicle. Is that what he said? YES, basically he did! I will take them to court on this one! I will get my money back plus lawyer fees. I also intend on letting the news media cover this story as well so the public can be aware. *DON'T GO TO PEP BOYS!* I can be very loud when I know I am right, further when we see the judge who do you think they are going to trust, PepBoys or a (Police Officer)? Oh, did I forget to mention I am a COP? Well this should be fun I am sure. A few words to the wise... *DON'T BRING YOUR VEHICLE TO PEP BOYS! THEY WILL SCREW UP EVERYTHING THEY DO! EVERYTHING!

I wish I'd known all of this about Pep Boys before I took my car in for a simple battery change. They had a woman who worked there (I guess they thought they could take advantage because I am a woman) come out and put in my new battery. She was struggling a bit with the job. I asked her "do you change a lot of batteries here?" She said no. She changes batteries on her own cars, but that she was not certified. By this time I'm thinking "Not certified? It said on the website Professional Installation. How can it be Professional Installation if just anyone can do it?
I had to hear about how the guys (the certified ones) were probably inside laughing at her... watching her. My car wasn't even pulled into the garage. She was changing it outside, standing on snowbanks. I guess I was there so they could have a "pigtail pulling" with the female worker. ha ha. I did not think it was funny. It was taking longer than it should have.
She couldn't lift the battery out. It was a tight fit in Chevy Impala. A customer who was leaving yanked it out. She put the new one in and guess what? The car was dead. I think she fried some wires or something. So the guys pulled it in. Did a test to show that the battery, alternator, and starter, etc. was good. They were. Now they are saying my vehicle is in anti-theft mode. If they can't fix it today (I had to bum a ride home after a four hour wait last night) they are saying the dealership will have to do it and that will be costly. I think they should pay. My car was working when I took it there... but it couldn't even be jump started after. I am mad.
my guess is that they hooked the battery up backwards. that is correct disconect neg. first hook up neg.last probbably charger up backward since you said spark show
service/repair
I had my Dodge Durango, which only has 65, 000 miles on it, to Pep Boys because the oil pressure gauge dropped to ZERO and the check gauges light came on. As soon as this happened, I pulled the vehicle over and parked it where it sat for 3 months till I had some extra money for repairs. The first day that Pep Boys had it, they test drove it several times and couldn't duplicate the problem, said that the sensor was loose and they unplugged it, plugged it back in and everything was fine I could pick it up and they would even discount the diagnostic charge. When I got there to pick it up, the mechanic had it up on the lift and the service manager Shawn said that the technician drove it one more time and the oil pressure gauge dropped and they light came back on, said I needed an oil pump. More than 24 hours and $725 later, I picked it up and drove it home. I was so happy to have my car back, told everyone what a great job they did, etc. On the evening of the 3rd day, I was driving and again, the oil pressure dropped and the light came on. I immediataly pulled over and called Pep Boys. They apologized told me to have it towed back in the morning. I left it where it was, and first thing in the morning I had it towed by Pep Boys. Right before closing that day, I received a call from the service manager telling me he had bad news. They mis diagnosed the problem and I now had internal engine damage, he would discount the cost of the engine and apply what I already paid to the labor charges but it would still cost me approx. $3600 to replace. Pep Boys damaged my engine by test driving it several times in one day when it wasn't getting any oil into the engine and by letting me take it home when it wasn't fixed properly. They further damaged the engine by again, test driving it again several times with no oil pressure the 2nd time I towed it in. They tried to tell me that this would've happened regardless but they are trying to cover their own butts. Oh yeah, they did refund me the cost of their mis-diagnosis repairs, but refuse to take ownership of their error and replace my engine, so now I'm stuck with a vehicle that I'm still making payments on and can't drive! I have contacted the BBB and the State Attorney General of New Mexico, they will, one way or another, pay for the mistakes!

inexperienced techs and extortion
The following letter was sent to pepboys corporate without response:
=
February 8, 2009
Pepboys
3111 west allegheny avenue
Philadelphia, pennsylvania 19132
To whom it may concern:
On january 30, 2009, I brought my 2000 chevrolet blazer into your pompano beach location to have my vehicle inspected. I advised the shop manager that I did not have any heat in my vehicle.
After 2 hours of diagnosing, it was advised that my thermostat needed to be replaced. I was then quoted to replace that item with some additional services which I declined because I thought it was priced too high.
2 days later, I had replaced this item myself (due to the simplicity of this task) and then proceeded my trip to connecticut (of which I advised the shop manager – this was the reason I originally brought it in).
I was travelling through georgia when it began to get chilly and I turned on the heat – but alas, I did not feel any heat even having it turned up hot to the maximum. I turned it off and continued my trip so I can at least make it south carolina, but could no longer continue the trip due to diminishing weather temperatures.
I pulled off of i-95 to an establishment called carolina cars located in florence, sc and the mechanic, joey miles, diagnosed the problem – my heater core needed to be replaced.
If I had known this prior to travelling, I would have had it replaced at that time, but your mechanic, jerry peermal, diagnosed my problem as the thermostat.
I paid a total of $80.09 for a 2-hour diagnosis that wasn’t even close to what the actual problem was. if I had just replaced the thermostat (which I did) and just kept travelling, I could have destroyed my engine.
Adding to this issue, I brought my same vehicle in to have my oil changed on january 5, 2009 which was fine, but while that was occurring, I bought 2 wiper blades in your store and had asked nick to have the mechanic put them on for me while he was doing the oil change.
I got back to work and noticed that the wiper blades were not replaced – I then had to take time from work again and have them put them on. later on in that week, I noticed that there was a shop rag tucked under my hood very close to the motor (I was checking my windshield washer fluid at the time). could you imagine what would have happened if that rag flew into my motor?!
So let’s recap the events – the oil change involved me returning to your shop to have new wiper blades replaced and if I didn’t look under the hood of my truck, I would have never noticed the shop rag near the motor that your mechanic neglected to remove before he closed the hood.
Secondly, I paid for 2 hours of diagnosing a “no-heat” issue for my truck which was a thermostat replacement only to find out in south carolina that it was my heater core. if this had not been replaced, my vehicle motor would have eventually been destroyed based up the fact I was travelling 1, 400 miles.
This is unacceptable under any terms of your establishment! the incompetency of your mechanics could cost customers thousands of dollars in repairs due to incorrectly diagnosing critical issues such as mine.
Here is what I proposing…
The cost to replace the heater core was $568.29 (find copy of invoice attached). I am seeking restitution along with $500 for my grief, aggravation, your incompetency and frustration that I was counting on your company to provide me an accurate diagnosis which was never delivered – this is almost comparable to a doctor who diagnosed his patient incorrectly and the patient suffered for it – this is called a lawsuit.
This is not a direct threat in any way or fashion, but merely a way for me to inform you that you are held responsible for your employees actions. so the total settlement I am seeking is $1, 068.29.
If you choose to decline, I will seek legal council advise, advise the better business bureau, consumer affairs and possible media/newspaper publications. there will be no exchange of phone calls. all correspondence will be letter sent as legal documentation.
You see it the same way a bottom-feeding lawyer does - I already had this argument with him and he lost that conversation - thanks for your input, but in a nutshell - they screwed up, not me

okay here is a major complaint for you from Pepboys in Raleigh, NC> I am seeking an attorney for this issue, as i am just a single lady, and feel that this could have been alot worse if i would have gotten on the highway like I was going to, instead i turned around to head back to there shop, but i did not make it due to there negligence.
I took my truck in for Brake repair Sat to Pepboys on Capitol, and it did not need BRAKES, needed axles seals, and when the repairs were done, and i picked up my truck 5 hrs later approx 1 pm. I left Pepboys and got dwn the road 2
miles just to have the tire/wheel fall off and hit a parked car. No, I was not hurt, nor anyone else thank goodness, and that is what the police officer said also.
This damaged my wheel well, my whole fender, and the parked car drivers door, not
to say what it did to my axel. The police were called and Pepboys came and
picked it up, took it back to there shop, took me home and told me it w/be ready in hr.
Well i called them 2 hrs later just to be told another hr, finally 3 hrs later, at 6 pm, the manager picked me up, and than there were
Rags hanging from the axle of my truck, and i demanded my money backfor the repairs that i ad already paid for approx 415.
Now i still need to have the truck inspected for
front end dmg, and the cost to repair the fender, and underneath and whatever else needs repaired.
I feel Pepboys is going to fight me on the things that need to be done, as well as a rental car and the time i need to take off of work to have this done. This was a very scary situation for me when it happend and a restaurant employee from Subway came out and calmed me down as i was crying and hysterical looking at the sparks fly when the axle of my truck slid down the road. I have all the pictures, and the witness names. I feel Pepboys should be held responsible for this mishap as the lugnuts were not put on the wheel when it was put back on my truck. Also, My tyime, as i had 2 appts Saturday, one to look at a possible Home I was going to see about purchasing, and the other was a dinner engagement at 5:30 which i had to cancel both. Please, can you assist me. I work M-F, 7-5, My vehicle, 99 mazda pick up, my ph# [protected].
I am just a single lady and can not afford to miss work, and take time off of work to get this matter cleared up and I really dont think Pep boys are going to re-imburse me for the repairs/inspection that my truck needs.
Imagine that, I see it the same way as a lawyer would. Just like Pepboys' legal staff would see it. Thus why they never responded and thus why I warned you. No one is arguing that they screwed up, its just that screwing up didn't cost anything besides $80.09. If you really want to sue for that, I'm sure you can find a lawyer who will take 100 dollars an hour for it.
A lawyer does not lose a conversation when you NEED him or her. The lawyer simply loses you as a client and they gladly do so. Lawyers do not go to court to lose, so they pick their battles. Your battle was lost the moment you sent the letter admitting that no damage could occur.
Bruce
I can understand you being upset but there are quite a few things I need to mention. First of all I strongly suggest you not seek damages. I wouldn't know a legal counsel who would take the case. It's quite possible your own letter screwed you over.
Did you say something very similar to "When I turn on the heater in my car, it doesn't blow hot air" to the pepboys technician? If you didn't say that key phrase, it's very easy to confuse 'heating problems' (lack of hot air) with 'overheating problems' (need new thermostat). That's exactly the case here.
Let's give you a hint as to how easy it is confused - YOU DID IT! Right in your very own letter to the people you want to sue, you say "paid a total of $80.09 for a 2-hour diagnosis that wasn’t even CLOSE to what the actual problem was. If I had just replaced the thermostat (which I did) and just kept travelling, I could have destroyed my engine." Sorry buddy but that's not true. Heating problems are a lack of hot air and do not do any damage to your engine. You could drive forever with a bad heater core and the worst that will happen is you freeze. OVERHEATING problems cause damage to your engine. Sorry for the confusion but Pepboys has no liability over possible damage to an engine since there never was overheating problems therefore no damage to the engine could occur.
Also just so you know, shop rags don't get sucked into engines. Car engines have enclosed air intake systems that filter out particles less than a micron in size. Your shop rag would most likely blown onto the street.
bad service
On November 30, 2008, Pep Boys Auto cut the pay rate for service writers and assistant service managers by $5.00/hour and instituted a commission schedule for them to make up the pay cut of $200.00/weekly.
The commissions are 2.5% for parts and labor on a service work order that is rang through the register, 2% on tire sales except for Cornell 1000 tires which is 1% on the amount rang through the register.
Any discounts on the sale reduct the commissions paid.
There is a way Pep Boys can reduce the commissions paid based on the Net Service Producer score (NSP).
There is a web site that customer can go to to rate their experience at pep boys, and they take the results to calculate the NSP score. The negative scores (a 6 or lower) are subtracted from positive scores (9 or 10) and the result score is divided by all responses to get a % an if under 50% the commissions are reduced to 1.5% for parts and labor, 1% for tires and 0.5% for Cornell 1000 tires.
They say the difference is banked and if the NSP score is above the 50% by the end of the quarter the bank is paid to the worker.
Corporate blames the service workers for the decline in revenues. Never mind the country is in a recession; the workers are lazy or inept and can't sell to customers.
Corporate has instituted more paper work & says that the service workers don't fill it out right or completely and that's the reason for falling revenues.
Reminds me of the saying about re-arranging the deck chairs on the TITANIC. Useless make work for the under paid service workers.

false advertisement
PepBoys Ad telling about oil & filter replacement says, "When the light comes on, bring it in".
When the light comes on, something else is wrong with your car, not an oil change.
I think that this is false advertisement ant should be taken off the air before someone gets sued.
I can easily see someone that has seen this commercial waiting until the light comes on the dashboard, then having to have their car towed into whom ever works on their vehicle and be told that they are going to need an engine or something because they drove there car without proper maintenance because they were waiting for the "light to come on".

I bought my tires there in the fall of 2010 .at that time they had a deal going on get all 4 tires and recieve the 4th tire free. suppose to recieve a rebate check for buying all 4 tires.since the 4th tire is suppose to be free.have not heard a word from them . still waiting on the rebate check. payed $700.00 so they are making a bundle off this false advertisement..
I went to the pep boys in sprinfield mo.I am sure they have done this to alot of people . maybe with enough complaints they will up hold what they are advertiseing...
The ad for pepboys is speaking of a check engine light coming on, They do free check engine light evals and pull the codes. Most people don't have a light to tell them when it's time for an oil change. I think that this is common sense... well I THOUGHT it was until I read this.
If someone is stupid enough to try and wait till a light comes on for an oil change then one of two things. #1 they have a properly working oil life monitor or #2 they are just ###ing ###ed and deserve it when the engine locks up-Chris
fraudulent company
Approximately one week ago, I took my car to have it inspected. They inspected the car, and told me that, in order to pass inspection, I would have to pay $550.00. That seemed high, so I got a second opinion, who said the same thing, failing the same issues, and telling me the car meets state inspection guidelines outside of those issues.
I went back to the original shop and paid the money to get the car fixed. They told me that everything was all set and the car would now pass inspection. However, I was unable to get an inspection sticker because I had accidentally left the new registration at my house.
Since this is 1/2 hr away from my home, I decided to just pick up the inspection sticker at pep boys in Manchester, thinking, obviously, that they would pass the car due to the fact that two independent shops listed the same items. However, they failed the inspection, and stated that it would cost, again, over $400 to fix, noticing several things that none of the other two shops noticed. The showed me the 'failures'.
The first thing that they told me was that the 'cracked windshield' failed the inspection. When I looked at the windshield, I saw that there was, in fact, a very noticeable crack there that I and neither of the other shops had mysteriously NOT noticed before I brought it into pep boys.
Then they showed me the rear shocks, which they claimed needed to be replaced. They showed me functioning shocks with minimal wear. The ride in the car is smooth, and again, neither of the other two shops failed it. There were several other things with the car that neither of the other two shops noticed, yet pep boys failed me for.
What struck me the most was that the employees had very large grins on their faces. The kind of smile that you might remember from grade school from a bully while he takes your lunch money. I am inclined to believe that they knew they were screwing me over, and enjoyed it.
Unfortunately, I can not prove anything. Taking legal action would be an expensive, time consuming and frustrating waste of time. I just wanted to politely let other people know that these people should not be trusted.

if you value your life do not go to pep boys
I took my 2002 Mazda 626 to Pep Boys in Laurel, MD for front brake pads. They told me it was my rear drums that needed to be replaced. I thought it was odd because I have 2WD not 4WD. So I let him put the drums on. Immediately I heard a loud screeching noise, but he reassured me it would go away after 4-5 days. NOPE! 2 weeks past and I still heard it. I took it back and he told me it was a manufacturing problem with the brakes. So I knew he was lying because I have never had problems with my brakes and my car was brand new when I bought it. I came back again the next day and someone else worked on it and all they did was put a bunch of lube on it to stop the noise. Once it dried up the noise started and is even louder and my car doesn't always come to a complete stop! I paid $350.00 for them to destroy my brakes! Thanks Pep Boys for all the unnecessary money I spent and all the damage you have caused my car!
FYI... I am seeking legal advice for loss and damages.

Yes I have been burned by Pep Boys several time through the years and should have known better. This last time I was suppose to receive a rebate equal to the price of one tire. That was a years ago and a certified letter. I have been in business for many years and just can't figure out what makes this company tick. One thing is obvious many of the employees are some-what incompetent and I am being polite. However I have always said: A company is operated from the top down not from the bottom up, "go figure". We must make every effort not to deal with this company and tell others of our experiences.

Do you even know what 4wd and 2wd stand for?
Did they replace the brake shoes as well, or just the drums? If they replaced only the drums, you haved been matched in ignorance as the WD in 2 or 4 WD stands for wheel drive...not wheel drums or anything else.
stay away from them!
I brought my 2003 Kia Sedona in to Pep Boys in Port Jefferson Station, NY for an oil change and they talked me into a winterizing special since I also wanted new wipers and washer fluid added. After leaving the car all day for this, my husband picked up the car and brought it home. The next morning, I realized that they never changed the back wiper (which was TYPED on my list of things needed) and my car had NO HEAT! Being January, my windows were icing up on the INSIDE with the defrost on! The next day, the car wouldn't even start! We jumped it and brought it back and after another full day of having the car, STILL NO HEAT!
They tried to give it back to me claiming there was heat pumping when they checked it! I was furious and let the manager know it! He claimed he was the night manager and had no idea what the day shift had done to my car. I explained the car was working fine when I brought it in two days earlier. After leaving, I brought the car the next day to a REAL mechanic and found out that they had left an air pocket in the antifreeze line (the manager at Pep Boys claimed they had used xxxPSI to put air into the lines to look for leaks, which they supposedly found and repaired). No wonder there was no heat and the car overheated and wouldn't start in 20 degree weather! My advice: don't skimp on repairs by using this chain; get a REAL mechanic!

lied about needing a part
I took my nissan in for them to install a starter, two days later started having problems with the starter again. Itook it back and they said I needed a new Flywheel for a price of $685.oo. I then took my car to a transmission shop and let them check it. They told me they put the wrong starter on my car at Pepboys, the transmission shop put a new starter in and it works fine. Pepboys said there was no compensation due since they didn't do the work. the shop charged me $90.00 to do the starter. I also paid Pepboys $168.00 to do the first starter. I feel I was right in going to someone else to fix the problem since I didn' have the $685.00 to have them do it. If I didn't do it they would have stole my money. I will gladley pay for the starter, but I think I should get the labor back on both . Unsatisfied customer, John Beasley

best place to go is always going to be the local garages. they live off of their customers. large chains, whether its pep boys or anyone else, do the work and get it out on a constant rate. people that cant get jobs at smaller garages or their own garage will go to work for larger chains.
fraud and scam
Before I took my SUV to the Santa Clarita Pep Boys I called for a front brake job estimate. $185. When I showed up, they immediately scour my SUV for the up-sell by measuring the tread of the tires. Coincidentally, they have a 'buy three get one free' promotion. Just the brakes, thank you, just the brakes.
A few hours later I get a call from Martin Andrade, the manager. He tells me they didn't realize my SUV was four wheel drive and the new price will be nearly double. Now, my SUV has a 2' lift kit with giant off road tires and six PIAA lights on the front. Didn't know it was four wheel drive? I'm thinking, do I really want these people working on my car? I tell Martin to forget it. The price is too much and besides, I told the person on the telephone and the guy who checked me in it was four wheel drive. I'll swing over and pick the car up. No problem, he tells me.
When I show up, everything is completely torn apart. They had to completely take the brakes apart before they discovered it was four wheel drive? After a long heated argument Martin offered to do the brake job for the original estimated price.I made them put the car back together and took it to a local mechanic.
In hindsite, it's easy to spot their tactics. Low-ball the estimate on the telephone. If the upsell doesn't work when you bring the car in they try to find a reason to raise the estimate. If that doesn't work hold the car hostage by taking it apart.

Pep boys can't align tires. They had them all screwed up and also destroyed my outer tie rod ends by over heating the adjustments. The so called master mechanic was in such a rush, which I don't understand why the place was dead. Which should have been my first clue that there service ***.And then when they placed the tires back on they stripped one of the lugs/bolt. I had to replace the out tie rod ends and I had to replace the lug/bolt and to do that I had to replace the rotors and brake pads. Thanks a lot pepboysss.
Just letting you know I just got let go by Pep Boys.
You are right about low balling over the phone, it's company policy. When ringing up an estimate over the phone there is actually a "phone quote" option on tires and other repairs.
Even when I got an enormous discount for service I wouldn't let my own cars, my relatives or anyone I cared about (even my enemies) go to PepBoys for service.
License to steal
Be very careful when parking your car in the Pep Boys, BJ's - Shoprite parking lot at Metro Plaza Jersey City. If you leave the Parking lot to go to the Mall your car is towed at a cost of $162.00 including taxi. It is taken miles away where you are them strong armed by a scavanger EZ Towing Co.
It so happens I left the Mall but my son and daughter remained in BJ's. Signs are posted but they are ambiguous. EZ Towing photographs you as you leave them steals your car.It is ashamed Pep Boys, Bj"s -Shoprite knowing of this policy doesn't warn its customers.
The EZ Towing Co forced me to pay cash and the low life's that they are mistreated me. Help me to put a stop to this practice. The Landlord is G & S Investors in NYC- call them.

Same happen to me at White Castle
EZ Towing pulled behind my car 3 minutes after I left the restaurant. They miscalculated; I walked away from the car but I didn't leave
the parking lot. I have receipts, pictures, and videos. I will take them to court.
I already reported them to Dept of Consumer Affairs, and will file with Police.
Tow truck driver told me "his boss is a rich guy, I can't fight him". I wouldn't be surprised if some cops are on his
payroll, but this is still America, and there is a rule of law.
PS We shall see how the judge rules, will keep you posted
why would you park somewhere and then go some place else. you deserve to be towed. where is your common sense? you park wherever you shop. its that easy. my god.
EZ towing towed away my car from White Castle on Newark Ave and JFK blvd while I was eating at the fast food chain. They made me pay $ 140 and made me pay cash. The EZ towing truck with number [protected] (license Plate XR-800G) even damaged my bumper. When I called the cops they refused to cite the damage and actually forced me to pay the towing company. The cops in Jersey City, store employees and EZ towing company are in together on this. They will not give you receipt unless you ask them many many times and may only fax it to you.
Same thing with Danny's Towing on 8th Street. My brother's car also got towed from outside BJ's on independence day weekend. They charge $30 per day.
They made us pay $200 as my husband was desperate to retrieve the car. I was heavily pregnant! No receipt given and demanded cash very rudely even when he could clearly see me. It was really a hot summer day and my husband had to leave me standing by the road side on a corner side street and then go with him to cash point to get cash to pay him and retrieve our car from his towing vehicle. After getting cash that idiot dropped our car facing opposite direction on a one way road!
I had the same thing happened when I Shopped at Target.
I will never shop at Target again! They work together even though Target denies it! No more shopping at Jersey City Target for me.
don't buy from them
4 days after having PepBoys install a remote starter for my wifes car, the car started to try and start itself, the back truck kept on opening by itself and the dash board started to act as if possessed. Pep Boys came to pick up the car and after looking over everything, they said that they have to replace the started as it was fried. They also replaced the auto starting kit they installed. I was being charged for the starter? They said we somehow must have played with the fob on and off buttons and rocked the started on and off. ###, my wife was livid at the accustation that she would be such a ###. I should have told them to pull the whole kit out and refund me the cost of the whole job including he burnt up starter. My wife wanted her car back and I'm holding my breath that the same thing does not happen again. Good Ridance Pep Boys.

overcharging and passing cost mistakes to customers
my car[2001 PTC LE] is currently being serviced at pepboys because I had really bad service at a car dealership, and my car started overheating again 2 days before I took it to pepboys. I was shown a part which they called a "bypass tube" which was rusted and thusly was leaking water really bad. they then showed me the knock sensor was broken[either by the dealer or them] and wanted to charge me $72 for replacing this part as well. Later that day I researched both parts online and only found the knock sensor was only $40 and the "bypass Tube" could not be found. Then pepboys claimed the part delivered from the dealer was wrong and now it will cost me $100 more to obtain and install the correct part because the dealer "priced the wrong part". So far I have lost 2days of work and $400 for my next check because I have to give my work orders away to my clients. I will lose my business because I have no more money to spend.
pepboys has bankrupted me and will not release my car so I can get back to work to make money to pay my bills.
I own this car and have suffered bad service from ASE techs from all the places I went for service from. I need resolution now. I have no more patience for bad service from "ASE techs" who are careless and ruin honest workers cars
Bad treatment of employees
I am an emplyee of pep boys for over 8 years. During the course of these years. I have been denied promtions that i rightfully earned by obtaining ase cetifications. Our health plan was taken away and replaced with a "heath fund". Under this plan i cannot afford to go to the dr. Last year the company decided that they would not be giving raises. This year...
