Truist Bank (formerly BB&T Bank) overcharged service, bad customer service

I have been a loyal customer to BB&T Merchant services for approximately 17 years now. Within the last year, they raised my rates and I spent half a vacation day trying to get it all corrected. No one cares to issue credit or that I am very unhappy with the customer service or lack of would be a better statement. I have tried all avenues to work it out with them and no one seems to care. Truly not the type of service I expected with the BB&T connection or all the money I have given to them over the years. I just wanted to put this out here to give others a heads up so hopefully they will not have to go through the same thing I have been experiencing with them. It is hard enough these days to make it with a small business in this economy without your merchant service company working against you.

I agree, I didn't have them that long. But when I tried to close the account, they NEVER said it was an early termination fee and I was hit with $195.00 charge. I was cancelling the account becaude I had been laid off for 15 months and couldn't afford their monthly charges...

Truist Bank (formerly BB&T Bank) online banking and customer service

Scheduled a payment to pay a credit card with their online banking. I download all transactions to Quicken to confirm. It confirmed the scheduled transaction.
2 days later a payment was made to the wrong company, a telecom company. The amount was substantial
I called BB&t immediately and they told me they could see the issue and were correcting and I could see within an hour. It never was corrected. I called again and was told something similar.
It was not corrected. I called again and was supposed to be called back.
Bottom line _ they sent me an e-mail saying it had to be my error. I could agree if I had not had third party confirmation from the date of the transaction.

Be careful with their online banking and confirm everything with some type of third party software. the issue is how do you get the mistake corrected if it is made to an unethical company. Thankfully mine was made to one that cooperated.

Go to your Bank and tell them you want to file a dispute on that payment, they will give you a form to fill out and within 7-10 business days it should be resolved. I had to do this with my bank in the past.

Truist Bank (formerly BB&T Bank) deposit

My mother deposited a $1750 check in my account on 10/3/2011, being an out of state check I understand that there is a hold on it but the teller put a 10 day hold on it because I had had previous bounced "checks". The last bounced "check" I had was in August and I had made a total of $4500 dollars in deposits in August and September and they were not held like this. I spoke to a manager at the bank and she said that she chose to make the hold and even though the money was withdrawn from my mother's account and technically in my account she is not going to release the funds. I explained to her that I had direct debits that come out of my account and my account if going to be overdrawn because she is choosing to hold the money from my account and she said it is my decision. I may have up to $350 in overdraft fees because of her "decision" and told me that I should check my account and can sign up for online banking for 5 dollars a month to avoid this.

Do you know how sometimes there is a $1.00 authorization that is requested when something is charged to a debit card? Well, BB&T actually charges overdraft fees on the $1.00 authoriztion charge AND a seperate overdraft fee on the remainder of the charge itself. On their website they say that "only the actual amount of the purchase will post to your account", but, what is happening is that they are charging overdraft fees on the pending transactions, including that $1.00.

Here's another example: After a $36 online debit charge, which was within five minutes turned around and credited back in the account, BB&T charged me $70 in overdraft fees. They charged $35 for the $1.00 authorization and then, another $35 for the actual $35 charge itself. So, the transaction was an immediate credit, but it cost me $70 in overdraft fees.

Maybe, in their disclosure statements they have drawn up their own rules and regulations. I don't know. I am not a lawyer. BUT, I do know this...there is such a thing as moral principles that businesses should adhere to. Especially when they are actually using YOUR money to run a business.

It is obvious that they are going under and are desperate and are generating overdraft fees from their customers.

BB&T is the worst bank ever. I was with Bank Atlantic, and was switched to BB&T after the takeover. Since the take over I found the customer service equal to Nazi concentration standards.

My main problem is that they didn't include my balance notification with the transfer. Because of that I was never notified when my balance got low. This was a feature setup with Bank Atlantic. How convenient that they were able to transfer all the other information, but not the low balance notification from my Bank Atlantic account. Could it be so customers will get over drawn without warning, and then they can charge an over draft fee! because of this I was charged $210 in over draft fees!

I'm am being ripped off every week by BB&T and this is a shame.

I think the Government doesn't intervene when they are benefiting from the fraudulent transactions.

So, lets find out what the Government should be enforcing and sue them for ignoring the facts and allowing the banks to take advantage of us.

If all else fails...lets remove the money from BB&T until we can find a honest institution.

Truist Bank (formerly BB&T Bank) maintenance fee charge for checking account

Hello,
I have a checking account with TD BAnk. The produsct is called 50+Checking and Private 50+.
They do not offer the product anymore but I kept the brouchure with all the information they provide in regard the account. They charge me $9.00 if I do not keep minimum $100.00 on the account each day. The agreeement says clear that is waived at age 50 and older. My husband is 61 years old and it a joint account.
TD BAnk broke the agreement I signed with them. On top of this the representative hangs up on me or I get a bad connection. I feel that they do not want to have any responsabilities other than using my money to make more money in their pockets.
Thank you for listening

BBT hides the account changes on the back page of their statements where its quite easy to miss. I know this now. When I didn't, I found a $4 fee for the right to have check images provided show up unexpectedly on my statement. I called the bank. Truist Bank (formerly BB&T Bank) stole my money

BB&T Bank in Fairfax, Virginia stole $10 from me for "checking account maintenance fees" after I opened a no fees account with them specifically for the reason of avoiding fees. They did this to me by switching the terms and conditions of my checking account without ensuring I knew they were doing so. My account at BB&T was only worth $84.00 so this $10 "maintenance fee" amounts to a 20% assessment! I had left the account open at BB&T since they told me I had to to keep my Safe Deposit Box there.

Watch out, don't bank with BB&T. If they did this to me, they will do it to you!

I made a 1300.00 deposit at 8;23 am on 11/3/09 I asked when it would post and was told by teller right now. I went to my office and made three purchases on line at 11:30, 1:30 and after 3:00. imagine my suprise when today i am hit with105.00 in overdraft fees because they take out purchases at the beginning of the day even when they are made in the afternoon after a deposit. I guess BBT has their own time system? Its bad enough having to wait a few days if you don't get there before 2:00 on a Friday. Oh well after 20 plus years I guess change can be good. So anyone got a good bank in Morgantown or is it time to go back to burying it a mason jar in the yard?

This bank is the worst bank I have ever dealt with.. I called the bank b/c I wanted to check on a charge on my account, well this morning when I woke up and checked my account, I had a two dollar charge on there. Come to find out, if you talk to a rep over the phone they will charge you! What kind of B******* is that! So to all the BBT BANKERS DO NOT CALL AND TALK TO A REP B/C THEY WILL CHARGE FOR IT. Just ridiculous.

I WAS NOT TOLD THIS AND IT IS NOT IN ANY OF THE LITERATUE THEY GAVE ME. THIS IS A FAST WAY FOR THE BANKS TO MAKE THIER MONEY. BEWARE OF BBT BANK. THEY DO NOT CREDIT DEPOSITS EVEN IF THEY ARE IN BEFORE 2:00.

In your monthly statement it advises you of account changes and anyother pertinent information. You shouldn't blame a bank for your inability to ready your paperwork. BEFORE opening an account anywhere read the Bank Services Agreement - It will advise you that your account may be subject to change, it will advise you of any fees, and *shocker here* it will tell you how to be sure you know of changes in an account. No banks are not offering free checking accounts. That's a fact. Read the fine print on everything. Credit Unions will be changing in 2 years.

Truist Bank (formerly BB&T Bank) unavailable money, sales pressure

I recently set up a savings account and checking account at a bb&t bank near where i live so i can have an atm closer to my house. I got suspicious when i was there on saturday the 21st (May 2011) and i was the only one there at the bank. I checked online and found a lot of complaints about the bank. I deposited money in both the checking and savings accounts on the 21st and it took more than a week for the money to be available in the savings account and the money isn't available yet in the checking account until june 2nd. Anyone have any advice on getting out of this situation? They keep calling and sending emails to get me to see a financial advisor, but i don't want to give them anymore information about me. I'm afraid they might ruin my credit rating and steal my money. Help!

I've had the worse time ever with this bank. Take your money out of that crooked bank before they ruin you like they did my mother after she passed away. I would sue them if I could afford it but, I can't. Nothing I can do without a lawyer. There employees are crooked so bad. Don't trust any of them. You better go as soon as you can and close all your accounts with them. You can turn them in to the BBB or OCC. They stole my mothers money. Froze her account. I just can't tell you all it's too much. Run man as fast as you can.

What seems "unethical & outrageous' is that you don't even know how much you have in your account that you incur these charges. Here's how I solved it: my credit union offers free checking with a small savings rate if I keep an average of 100 dollars per month in the account. One hundred isn't to much to ask and it provides ME with the incentive I need ; no fees and they pop me a few dollars a year in interest.

I think it's time for you to get smart and to be aware of how much is in your account.

Truist Bank (formerly BB&T Bank) conyers stealing from it's customers

This is the second time in a week that BBT has manipulated my account from a positive balance, jumbled around my balances and taken all my incoming deposits as NSF fees! These people are Pure crooks and I am beginning to understand why WV ran them out of their state. My family has banked with BBT since day 1 and i am blown away at the blatent rudeness of their bankers and just pure bank fraud they manipulate their customers with. The past week I have had 3 positive balances in which all 3 just dissappeared and they moved around the order of transactions to a negative balance that does not even make sense! For Instance this last order of banking went like this $152.48 -80.00 $72.48 -30.00 $42.48 -8.40 $34.08 -6.20 $27.88 -15.40 $12.48 Ending Balance I logged on after midnight to notice they had re arranged the $80.00 ATM transaction which is not even listed, which was yesterday and I got a print out. My account shows a negative $57.52 when I had a $12.48 Positive Balance just earlier today? They took $105.00 from me last week and did the very same thing in which $8.92 went missing and another $22.00 went missing only to have taken ALL of my incoming deposits from Pay Pal. This Bank Is Corrupt and Crooked and needs to be Stopped. I also noticed that when you sign up you waive your rights to a class action law suite! What a joke, this is fraud in the evilst form. Stay Away from BBT unless you want to be just slapped and your money taken and given oh well! Deal with it, Thanks for banking with BBT! I also noticed they posted the most profits of any bank last quarter.. I wonder Why? I will be calling Clark Howard and starting a massive campaign against BBT to let everyone know what a bunch of freaking crooks these people are. How dare they just steal and lie This is a sad day in america when a Bank can just steal from it's customer and have Zero accountability or customer service. All their responses are we cant override the system and credit back your account. liars! it's like wrestling with a bear lubed up with bullcrap. Crooks!

My daughters roommate wrote bad checks against her account and she has to pay for it. Not only did they not investigate that individual that the FBI is watching, but they continue to penalize her with fees even after they were the ones that closed the account. They treated her like she was a criminal. Have you noticed that everybody has fees and taxes for everything under the sun? It seems like wallstreet has given a green light for banking and other corporations to steal money. What has happened to this country? or maybe I just never really saw it for what it really was? or never had the courage to say that all these fees and taxes amounts to nothing more than stealing money. This isnt capitalism anymore. This is what I call corporate communism. Come on people, wake up, we are being raped by corporations. Our government doesnt have any power, their just fighting over the left over crumbs from this broken economy. Forget about government, we have to take a stand.Where is all your money going, and how much do you have left over. Thats how much freedom you really have. Hey, but I am a patriot because I am wearing a flag pin. Dont fall asleep and let others do your thinking for you. Just look at the facts. Your pay check will tell you everything you need to know . Sincerely, nothing leftover after taxes and fees. P. S, if your ever hospitalized, dont open the shades, it will cost you 500 dollars plus taxes and more fees for everybody that made it possible for you to open those shades.

Truist Bank (formerly BB&T Bank) inactive and acct maintenance fees

My free checking account was just converted to a bright checking requiring a $1500 balance and direct deposit. And if you don't do these things you will be charged $5 for inactive fee and $10 maintenance fee. Really? Here the good one, bb&t also won't send a statement if there is no activity so you will not know that you are racking up charges unitl your statement comes 4 months later. Wow, great customer service and retention!

I agree with the poster above. If you dont spend more then you have the time you wont incur a fee. Plain as simple dont use banks as your own pay day advance and wont pay any fees. Spend with you what you have at the time! Banks have also increased the technology to conform to society, you have online banking, you have mobile banking where you can get text message to indicate when you balance reaches are certain level. To avoid the banking fee, most people have direct deposit of payroll or Social Security just have $100.00 direct deposit and avoid the fee. Banks have to pay to mail you a statement and pay payroll to assist you whne you come in to the branch. Which is more then what some banks are lacking is the relationship and the ability for you to go in and actually talk to a "real person".

Truist Bank (formerly BB&T Bank) Incompetence

We did did business with this bank for a home equity loan and also opened a checking account for the short 6 month duration we had the loan. After we closed out the checking account we started receiving phone calls from a collection agency which went on for 2-months due to overdraft fees! These ###s at KeyBank are unbelievable and their service is so poor. We had other service related issues before this episode. It took at least 8 calls to the local KeyBank branch to clear this up. Steer clear of KeyBank!

I am beyond pissed, because this is not the first time they have charged me a fee randomly and screwed up my account.

In your bank service agreement it will tell you that when making a deposit, $100 is available immediately, the remainder is available the next business day. It also says it at every teller, ATM, drive thru on a sign. Want the money available immediately? Cash the check.

Truist Bank (formerly BB&T Bank) gives you a hard time, for everything!

This is why I don't deal with banks, the only eason I ever stepped foot in this POS "bank" was because someone asked me to be on an account. They live out of town, and own rental property here.Basically I just depoist checks, so why did I get a statement saying that I owed taxes on this account.Like hell I do, I don't take a dime from it and won't pay any taxes. So I go down there, and they give me a hard time for get this...changing the names around.Said they couldn't do it, this is BS I told them exactly this. All of a sudden the form to do it appeared, so we sign the form, I give it back to them...the end right? Wrong, my name is still the first thus if I leave it I'll still owe taxes on it.I have never seen such BS behavior, the tellers are rude and try to make you feel stupid.I tried to explain at first to a teller what was the problem, she then went inch by inch through the account.HELLO...just get my someone who can help me.I have the statement right here saying that I owe taxes, why the hell would I lie! I never got a membership card, what kind of place is this that you don't get a membership card! The management to bully you into things. The person I'm helping out opened up a savings account for me, why I don't know.I was also trying to close this account while all of the above is happening.I think it's closed, I'm going to have to in AGAIN to see if it is.Since no one seems to give me a clear answer over the phone, seems that you've got to face them and look them in the eye.All of this because I wanted to help someone...Credit Unions are where it's at!

What are you talking about! All I want to do is change the names on the account so I don't pay any taxes on it, the other person is not doing anything shady. Why should I have to pay taxes on it! All I do is despoit the checks when she is not in town. What is so hard about that, do you work for Bb&T? My god it's a name change, why should it be this hard.No one is clear at this branch at all, I'm not blaming the bank. What I'm saying is why is this process so hard?

Actually, It sounds to me like he opened a savings account with someone as a joint owner and was listed as the primary owner (the person who has the interest earned reported under his/her social). Did you tell the person opening the account that it was important that the other person should have been primary? The only way to fix this issue is to close out the account and open a new account. Unfortunately, banks can not remove people from the account and as far as I know (unless the person has died) ... i dont think they can change who the primary owner is on existing accounts either ... They MAY be able to change/ amend tax reporting for 2010... again... im not sure... but I might go in to ask. Try talking to the manager calmly and explain the situation. I doubt he/she will know if it can be done offhand either but see if he/she can research and get an exception made for you.

Truist Bank (formerly BB&T Bank) loan renewal

BB&T is treating my loan renewal as if I were a delinquent, non-perferred customer. I signed a $67, 500 loan agreement 7 yrs ago in alabama with Colonial Bank for a 2 acre, lakefront lot in a subdivision (since then I improved the property by adding underground utilities.) The terms were a 5yr balloon over 20yrs @ 6.5%. I re-signed for an additional 2yrs for the same terms - a few months later BB&T purchased Colonial Bank. This is where the issues start. I was contacted 4 weeks before my loan is due and was told my loan renewal is under a "special" class for review before renewal because it was a Colonial Bank loan. This includes requirements specific to BB&T and which I was never informed of before now. I need a land appraisal which would be required every time I have to renew (which would be every 2yrs). The cost for a land appraisal is over $1000.00! I disputed the need for an appraisal and received agreement for a lesser cost evaluation. Next I'm told I cannot have the 6.5% interest rate because it's BB&T's policy to make a certain amount off of a loan. I was told it would increase to 7.325%. Really? Even when the interest rates are lower now than when they were 7yrs ago (I just resigned a different renewal loan 6mths ago for 6.5% at a different bank). I would think money coming in is better than no money at all and this is where they will be with my loan. Now I don't care if I have to pay more money at another bank to get a different loan - I do not like the way this loan officer is speaking to me (customer service training would be useful for her) and these "new" policies applying without proper notification for my renewal loan - I will be shopping for my loan elsewhere.

Truist Bank (formerly BB&T Bank) Overdraft Fees

My wife's 96 year old mother has a checking account with BB&T in which her SS check is direct deposited on the 3rd of every month. Every month two checks are written from her account to pay the nursing home where she lives. The checks are always dated the 3rd of the month and mailed so as to arrive at the nursing home on the 3rd. This month (March) they arrived early, on the 2nd, and and deposited immediately. The bank honored the deposits even though they were dated the 3rd and then charged my mother-in-law $70 for two overdrafts. The bank said they did nothing wrong and won't refund the overdraft charges. There was enough money in her account to cover the small check but the bank took the large one out first so they could charge the 2nd overdraft fee. The bank couldn't be bothered to check the account history to see the activity. There was no concern for the customer. It looks like this was seen as another opportunity to make a little money.

Beware ! In the last couple of months Wells Fargo has changed their online banking procedures in a way to easily rack up overdraft fees. I personally went in and spoke to a banker on 04/2010 to have all over draft options turned off. This does not matter you will still acrue overdraft fees through their creative accounting process they have recently initiated.

It works like this...
I had $1000 in my joint checking with my husband on the first of May. I spent most to pay all the months bills and buy gas and groceries on the 2nd. Midnight of the third my husband transfered $250 to his eagle cash card for him to use in Iraq (he is an active duty service member currently deployed). His transaction was made last but it overdrew the account by $50 which should be fine because we have the money in savings and I am supposed to get alerts via email that also comes to my phone immediatly.
The creative accounting comes in here. They left all purchases as pending for three days and proceeded to approve in order the biggest amounts first which was rent and his transfer. They changed the date of his transfer request to reflect that it had been requested and made BEFORE the small purchases which was incorrect. Because of theire switching and pending tricks they were then able to access overdraft fees on 6 pending actions. I happened to check the account before midnight of the pending transactions that would technically cause overdraft and tranfered $300 to make sure it was all covered and no fees were given. They posted my tranfer as the NEXT business day when I went to look again and went ahead and assesed 6 $35 overdraft fees. I cover the amount and call and talk with a banker about transactions not going through in the order they were made and get no help. So I resolve to speak to a banker the next day. TWO DAYS after I have fixed this problem I get the notification of insufficient funds. I call to tell them as am example that their system in incorrect and not giving notice in accurate time, they do nothing but agree I am not negative in my account.

Until I figure out if this problem was me or them I cancelled all cards to this account. I have a direct deposit that goes in the 1st and 15th of every month. Memorial day weekend (3 days before the first) I notice that my direct deposit has reflected as available. I am confused because my pay Never comes in early unless the first or 15th is on a saturday or sunday or a major holiday. June 1st is on Tuesday the day after the holiday. I open to account activity and realize this is not actually money available. They had it pending for June 1st and by doing so it allowed me to use money that I may have thought I had but on the first they would process all debits as a weekend purchase before processing the credit of deposit so that they could cause another $400 in overdraft fees with me realizing and in the end the way they process it makes it seemingly my fault even though they make it appear on the overview page as if it is available. I would also like to mention that formerly my deposits were never pending online. They did not show until approved and available, so this is a new trap. Beware!

They will run all your debits first in order of largest amount of money not in order you made them and they will pend all deposits while processing debits first, even if you made them at the same time. This way they can charge you $35 and make it appear legit, as if you did not make your deposit in time. They will switch dates of purchase made to reflect day it was processed instead so that the accounting appears correct and not creative. They apparently will also now show you money pending as available before it has processed or been deposited so it appears as if it is available to spend when it is not yet. When you do spend they will process debits first and further pend your deposit and change deposit date to reflect date they finally processed it.

I will no longer be doing business with them.

The worst customer service ever. I called in and wished the Customer service rep, Shirely, Good morning and she didn't even care to reciprocate. It was at 9:00 clock for somebody to even start having a bad day. Anyways I got down to the business about the new fees they charged, I am being referred back to that I have to read my statements properly. It's that I was out of country for a while and had missed about 45 days of mail...basically one statement where they claim that they have sent out the details about the new charges. I obliged and went thru my old mail and was able to figure out some of the fees they are charging. One of the charges were the maintenance fees...which last year was for not maintaining min balance, and apparently they changed to have some minimum no of transactions. I fail to understand why it would it cost them less to have more transactions on the account as opposed to less than five. This is just another way for the banks to gouge more than their fair share of customer's money. This was supposed to be totally Free checking I have been with them for more than 18 years, this is how they choose to repay the loyalty...totally disgusted on how low they can stoop...

I know Wamu really don't nickle and dime you but they cut back on so much to cover that. In July i had an overdraft fee after i paid my Electric bill. Now my husband and I only paid when we see the post of his direct deposit in. Which has been nearly 4 years of direct deposit from same work place. Always posted on the 14th before midnight. If it's a weekend, it will be post 1-3 days prior. We wait until we see the number appear on the right showing the balance before using it. We paid on the 15th late noon, shows pending and taken out a few days later. On the 20th i see the OD fee. I checked it again and it shows that the bill was paid on the 19th but deposit date has changed to the 20th, that means we are one date late on one transaction. I messaged them online over 5 times, 4 was all canned responses and the fifth a real person who apologized and refund the fee as it was an error in their system that did not post the correct date and changed to 4 days later. This was our first OD fee for over ten years with 4 accounts for me and 2 for my husband.

After that, I am extremely careful. I check my accounts everyday morning, noon and before i go to bed at around 1-2am in the morning. Wamu shows pending now in orange so i check alot to transfer money from one to the other to be safe.

One 10/22/08 at 1 AM or so i checked my account as i am expecting a transaction to go through, did not see a pending or anything at all with a positive balance. So to be safe i transfered in twice the amount in case and went to bed. Hours later at around noon i checked again and see my transfer went in on the 10/22 but the transaction went in on 10/21 which i didn't see hours before. I freaked out as why the date is off. i messaged them and got 3 canned responses. Finally one real person response saying our cut of time if 11pm the night before. If by that, i should have seen the transaction as it was early morning the next day. After more canned responses, i asked them to remove the OD protection over 3 times and they wont even address that. When called in with the problem, i get a rep who say online banking has nothing to do with what they do. Meaning it's a problem that they can't handle or help.

I really hate it when online banking dont have exact updates on their website as they stated. If their cut off time is 11pm, . all transactions should have been updated to let me know, not after the next day. It's useless to have 3 other accounts that have extra money to transfer too.

Since with no help online or phone, i finally resort to file with the BBB, hopefully i get a real response from the company but very little hope as the have a "F" rating with the BBB. (yes, F is the lowest you can get)...most are from non-response from company to boost.

Sorry for the long rant. Feels better now. Thanks

I opened an account approximately two years ago. I hardly used the account, and had a balance of approximately $4.52. At some point in October of 2010, US Bank assessed a $5.00 "returned statement fee", that overdrew my account by .48 cents. Even though I had signed up for US Bank alerts, I never recieved an alert, by email or paper. In February of 2011, I recieved an email alert that my address had been changed. When I called the customer service center, imagine my surprise when I was told my account was in collections and I had been charged a WHOPPING $180.00! Apparently US Bank, with their ridiculous fee, overdrew me, and then charged me $25/week for being overdrawn. I called US Bank 13 times in 3 days, was transferred all over the place, promised calls back I never recieved, and when I finally spoke with an assistant manager (the branch manager wouldn't talk to me) they refused to refund my fees. This is absolutely disgusting and I'm subsequently filing a report with the Attorney General's office. US Bank is HORRIBLE!

We are a new company, this bank has charged us $264.00 in overdraft charges for 2 overdraft of less than $5.oo dollars.

A coimpany make a direct charge on my account so the account was overdrafted for $4.32, so they charge $66.00 for overdraft + $33.00 for returnning check.

Two days latter the company try again to make that charge, but now the account is overdraft $136.32 (thats the original $4.32 + $132.00 that the bank charged me), so they charge me again $132.00.

Total charges $264.00
Charges made by the other company $68.00
Total charges by the other company on the second time $35.00

So we lost a total of $ 364.00

We just open a new account with Bank of America, they charge only $10.00 for something like this.

Beware of this bank. I was a happy customer of Commerce bank and since TD took over it has changed a lot for worse. Last thing is that they have changed the way the debit card operates without my permission. Before the change, payments that exceeded your balance didn't go through. Now they go through and they charge an outrageous overdraft fee, 35USD per item. They also process the payments from higher to lower amounts, in such a way that the number of overdraft items is maximize. For example, if you have 100USD in your account and you make one payment of 100 hundred and 6 payments of 1USD, your 6 1$ payments will be consider overdraft and you will have two pay 6 times 35=210USD. If they processed them in the opposite order you would only have to pay the fee once. The customer service has really worsened as well. I asked them if I was opted in in any other service without my permission and they very unfriendly asked me to read the 50 pages booklet that they sent after the merger.

I had a banking account with fifth third bank. I also have a life insurance policy. In order to pay that policy I needed a checking account I went to the closest bank to me which was fifth third to do the account. I put $50.00 in the acount to start it. Our life insurance was coming out on the second of every month. so on the three days before it was to be taken out my husband was paid we put the money in, but on the second for some reason the money was still not in the account. We used cash to do so. 5/3 charged us $25.00 in overdraft fee plus $8.00 a day. We did not know that we were overdrafted until it was too late and it was $275.00. I do not have a job I am a stay at home mom with my 3 month old premie son. So we are living off my husbands minimum wage job only paying rent, phone bill, gas bill, car insurance, and other odds and ends for our son as well as ourself including gas for the car and food. We tried to close out the account and pay as we went but they refused to do so. They said we have to wait until it goes to collections so we now owe $375.00 to 5/3 bank. We will never be able to pay that off in our life time. Please if you need a bank do not go through 5/3 bank. How they are still in business I don't know and really don't care I just know that they are raping people of their money and don't care about how bad our economy is.

they did not leave all the purchases pending. The merchant didnt complete the transaction...they have 3 days to do it. You should not be using the internet to check your balance ...it can and will be incorrect. Your hubby was at fault for overdrawing the account . All banks run them thru largest to smallest. legallly if your work puts it over they have to show that BUt can not make it available until your work says. banks refuse to babysit anymore...

Truist Bank (formerly BB&T Bank) overdraft charge practices

I have banked with BB&T for close to 30 years if you count the time I banked with the small bank that they purchased. I even at one point worked for them, so I am very familiar with the operation. Just recently I made an error in my account (only the 2nd time in my life) that resulted in a $30.00 overdraft. I quickly recognized the error and made a deposit to cover the cost plus the $140.00 overdraft charges. I fully accept the $140.00 because I know the error was mine. However what I did not know was the fact that BB&T was going to charge me for all of the "Virtual or Pending" transactions that happened to be ciberspace at the time of the overdraft. These items had NOT posted and by the time they did actually post I had made the deposit that more than covered them. One of these items had been in a pending status for 3 days yet because of a single mistake they charged me $35.00. I believe that charging someone $280.00 for a $30.00 error is bordering on preditory practices. I have appealed to the bank for a refund of these charges. I have also reviewed the banking service agreement and there is ABSOLUTELY no disclosure of charging for virtual transactions. However the bank maintains they did nothing wrong. I am taking this opportunity to WARN everyone that I possibly can DO NOT BANK WITH BB&T if you are human and do occassionaly make a mistake. If you do you will pay and pay and pay and pay.

The national law firm of Lieff Cabraser Heimann & Bernstein, LLP is investigating the alleged practice by BB&T of allowing customers to make debit charges to their ATM, debit or check cards even when the customer has insufficient funds in their account. BB&T allegedly debits checks in order of the largest to smallest to increase the likelihood that customers will overdraw, and overdraw multiple times.

It has been further alleged that BB&T debits purchases from ATM, debit or check cards and checks written on the account before it credits deposits into the account for the same reason.

BB&T customers have complained that all of these alleged business practices are purportedly for the purpose of assessing customers overdraft fees and charges.

I WILL BE CONTACTING THIS LAW FIRM TOMORROW. I SUGGEST EVERYONE THAT HAS HAD AN ISSUE WITH BBT DO THE SAME.

Bank of America used to do the same thing, until someone filed a class action lawsuit against them. We need to find a way to come together and contact a law firm to file a class action lawsuit. I have been reading the many blogs and articles about BBT and there is no way this many people are having the same exact issues with their bank without someone being willing to look into it. I tried the Better Business Bureau to no avail.

Like most people, I do my banking online. I usually check my checking account balance online every other day to see if I have enough money to pay bills etc. To my knowledge I have once or twice been overdrawn but that’s all...I have two (I thought) accounts - my checking and my Visa credit card which I have only used two or three times in the last year. But there was another account named ‘Overdraft Protection Plan’ (which I remember agreeing to join about a year ago)...It said balance, $2, 200. Not balance owed, just balance...I had noticed that before and assumed it was the amount that would be available to me in an emergency under their Overdraft Protection Plan...Upon closer inspection it appeared that it was me who owe BB&T the $2, 200 for overdrafts that I had have been charged for without my knowledge..Apparently BB&T have been regularly charging me a fee of $35 for even the smallest overdraft without informing me of the charge! This is gross deceit, unprofessional and totally unacceptable.

Truist Bank (formerly BB&T Bank) check cashing fee

Just when I thought bb&t figured every way they could to get a penny out of their customers, I just came up on a new way. My account is drawn on bb&t. I gave my daughter in law a check payable to her for $60.00. I told her to take it to the bank with her id and get it cashed.

When she got to the bank. They asked for id... Good thing. They proceeded to cash the check drawn on themselves and turned around and cashed the ckeck and charged my daughter in law $6.00 to cash it... What a rip off... They charge to cash their own checks... Un real!

I recently cashed a $400 check drawn from the same exact bank from which it was written. My wife has an account and signed below me and I was charged a fee for cashing it. This is only the second job I've had in all of 2010 and no one is bailing me out of debt, but of course BB&T got
BB&T 10/27/08 Profile $3, 133.6 that's $ 3, 133, 600, 000.00 and they steal $6.00 from me to cash a check.

WHAT DO YOU DO WHEN THEY HAVE THE WRONG PERSON AND WILL NOT STOP CALLING. THE PERSON THEY ARE TRYING TO FIND NO LONGER HAS THIS NUMBER. THEY KEEP CALLING ME ALL HOURS OF THE DAY AND NIGHT AND I MEAN ALL HOURS. YES, I COULD CHANGE MY NUMBER BUT I HAVE HAD THIS NUMBER A FEW YEARS AND ITS EASY FOR MY ELDERLY PARENTS TO REMEMBER. I AM IN MY 50'S, WHITE AND FEMALE NOT A HISPANIC MALE. NEVER HAD A STUDENT LOAN...
I HAVE TOLD THEM TO SEARCH THE NUMBER AND SEE THAT IT DOES NOT COME UP WITH THAT NAME AND ADDRESS.
THESE PEOPLE ARE RUDE, VICIOUS AND HAVE USED LANGUAGE THAT WOULD CAUSE TO BLUSH.
