UPS review: The truth about ups 383

I have seen a lot of complaints about UPS and I have no doubt in my mind that they are correct. I work for UPS. They are the most self-centered, dishonest and discriminatory company as far as I know. As with lot of companies, the phrase “who you know is who you blow” applies here too. Having the unpleasant experience of being in the “pool” for part-time management promotion, it seems that all the candidates that are hired are young, inexperienced and should we say... less intelligent. And these people are managing the real people who are handling your packages and making the money for the upper management who decides where it is wasted... upper management of course!

It is funny to see when they are pinching minutes from the occupational (i.e. hourly employees) in order to save money and shoveling it to the management. But hey, that’s free enterprise procedure.

After having the experience of several years at UPS, they have literally liquidated my loyalty. I use to be loyal to UPS and do my job to the best, but today work is still done to the best, but the loyalty is gone. And this is due to the discriminatory and dishonest way of dealing with people. I got screwed in the process and I’m sure there are more to count. If I may say something that UPS did right, was the color they chose. It is brown, and it reflects the color of ###. BIG ###.

The troubles at UPS are endless. Employee turnover is horrible and since they are treating the people as they are, word gets around and eventually you run out of employees. But that is something that they are not concerned. Also, UPS wants to be the “safety organization of the world” but anything that is unsafe is usually ignored and even if acknowledged, it takes forever to fix it. So when you say UPS, might as well say “ooops...” .

So for all the people out there, you are NOT stuck with UPS. Use FedEx, USPS (United States Postal Services) or DHL. I was actually shocked to find out that FedEx “ground” is CHEAPER than UPS after they bought out a low cost package carrier. FedEx is more reliable in my mind and I cannot remember having complaint about them. Postal services have more alternatives than ever before and you can always check DHL references on-line. I am personally applying a job at DHL just for the challenge. I know that I can contribute to them or any other company more than I can to UPS. Knowledge increases the pain they say, and now I know what they meant by that. So please be noted that I do not like UPS just for the reason that I do know the truth.

Peace, Upser.

o I had an order from Coach coming via UPS when I noticed the tracking looked a bit funny.

Houston, TX, United States 08/31/2012 3:56 P.M. Arrival Scan

Jacksonville, FL, United States 08/28/2012 7:42 P.M. Origin Scan

United States 08/28/2012 9:39 A.M. Order Processed: Ready for UPS

It is obvious that something doesn't look right here, why would it go back to the origin city? OK, so passed that it was supposed to be delivered on 8/31/12. That day come and went and nothing. I called UPS just to have them tell me that I was supposed to have gotten my package on Friday 8/31 and that they don't know where my package is! I made them start an investigation, and still nothing. I have the horrible feeling that my package it's not going to reappeared. How can this happen?

UPS engages in Age Discrimination. They only hire younger workers with strong backs, even though I know some over-50 people who work just as hard. BTW, I am a former UPS employee. All the employee complaints documented here are valid. Stay away from them!

This is the email I wanted to send UPS but then I saw how their complaint page was set up and it just felt like it was absolutely useless to send a complaint, it would just go to their circular file. So I decided to post here where they and everyone else can see it:

"I wanted to let you know of my complaint with UPS and also the reason I no longer use UPS for any shipping, and try to avoid getting stuff via UPS as well, when possible.

So today I was expecting a package that I really needed for my computer. I checked for it several times during the day and it never came. I was home all day and the entry buzzer is connected to my phone so if they'd call I'd have a record of it.

So at 12:30 tonight am I checked my email and saw that the package had arrived - at 6:03pm.

**We were home** at 6:03pm.

We received no call/ no buzzer from downstairs.

This means the UPS driver did not even attempt to notify us the package was here, he just dropped it off IN THE LOBBY by the front door and did not bother to try to gain entry by calling us. I had this happen time and time again in the last year that I used UPS for shipping and that's why I now try to avoid UPS. They won't call up on the buzzer, they'll just leave stuff downstairs with no notification or attempt to gain access to our apartment. Also they used to say we weren't home when we were, so they could avoid delivery that day and do it the next day, presumably when they felt they'd have more time to spare. Our buzzer works. Everyone else uses it, no problem. We have call waiting. If someone buzzes us we get it on call waiting.

So today they did not buzz, they just left the package. You'll just have to trust me, I have no reason to lie about it. This was the only call received today because I have viatalk which logs all incoming and outgoing calls. The only incoming call today was my wife's friend and that was well after 6pm when the package was delivered. If UPS wants to see proof I will show them our CALL LOG for the day.

The fact is UPS drivers (not all but most that deliver around here) are lazy and/or irresponsible and won't take the time to buzz us when we get a package (this has happened many times) and sometimes they just leave and say we weren't home. (I've had that happen several times on days I was anxiously waiting for a package, even stayed home to make sure I received the package, only later to find out they said we weren't home.)

Just thought you might like to know why we never choose UPS any more - aside from your higher prices!"

Hello. On the above-mentioned site (which you may have to log in and join to see) there are alleged stories of work-time pleasures with one of the UPS employees and some office staff that the employee makes deliveries to. Whether this is fact or fantasy, it sickens me that certain participants on the above site would find it sexually interesting to bring down the UPS name. I'd appreciate it, if this could be looked into please. Thanks.

They are late 3 days, (expedited took them 5 days! ) and when I called to customer support they just put me on hold for half an hour and then hung up on me.So delivery should be tomorrow, and if I will miss it, it will be 6th day already. They totally not care about customers.

Very rarely do my shipments make it to my address. My shipments have reached my other neighbors houses, and believe it or not, one shipment went someones house in a different town! I also receive other peoples shipments from totally different addresses.

One time I had ordered a recycling garbage pail and UPS delivered it to another neighbor’s house. This neighbor does not get along with anyone on the block and of course this turned into a big headache. They took it as an insult (I guess) and threatened to sue me. The following day he tried to run my husband off the road. I have UPS to thank for this.
I have called and complained to UPS, but nothing has been changed. Just today I received a delivery and of course it went to another neighbor’s house.

I will not use UPS anymore. I will ask for FedEx, even if I have to pay more for delivery. At least I know it will end up at my front door!

Hi
I have send a parcel from Namibia to Angola on the 18th of December. Today is 25th January and the recipient has still not received the goods.
I have made various attempts to contact Ups South Africa and Namibia, but have not received one reply to my mail. Just silence.
I regret it soo much choosing Ups. Ontop of all, the goods were meant for people for the new years eve event. Now the recipients´clients are refusing to accept the goods.
Please, rather use DHL. They might be more expensive, but really, it is not worth the hassle.
I really wish Ups good luck. Carrying on the way they carry on, sooner or later they will be out of business. Certainly won´t see a cent from my pocket.

I mailed a package to China. The package consist of gifts my parents brought for my in-laws in China thus I don't know the value of the gifts. Not only has UPS has charged me over $200 dollars to send the package, they can't even deliver it cause they say customs won't let it pass as a gift. Now my in-laws have decided to reject the package so I should get it back but for UPS to do that, they need a copy of my US passport. Why would they need a copy of my US passport to ship my package back. Their service is so bad, every time i asked a question about my package they push me to another department. I have talked to their local UPS and global UPS department and I have gotten no where. They also decided to open my package without telling me. So what I have noticed is that their China branch liked what's in my package and want to keep it and thus they are making all the BS excuses of not sending my package back. First they want me to send a letter stating to return and it will be returned. Then they decided they want my passport, why in god's name do anyone need to give UPS a copy of passport to return a package?

My theory is that the UPS in China really likes what's in there and thus wants to keep the package hoping that I forget it. I tried looking for a complaint site on UPS.com and guess what, it doesn't exist. I wonder why?

I will first say that I am NEVER using UPS again. The customer service was appalling, service charges (brokerage fee, delivery fee etc) are outrageously high. They wouldn't clear my package through customs because they did not believe that I am a student buying school supplies (sometimes fine art students have unconventional school supply needs) and was forced to declare to revenue canada that I have a business that imports goods. FIrst however they used this opportunity to attempt to make a sale, a $5 fee to approve my business number for importing of goods...which is a less than 5 minute job over the phone or online. And if that wasnt enough, about 2 minutes after I hang up having informed the UPS rep that I would do it myself and save my $5 I get a call back from a different representative trying to up sell me AGAIN.
And finally my package is cleared through customs. Unfortunately now the estimated time of delivery falls during a time when I will be out of town. I call UPS to set up to pay over the phone in advance(over $100), the phone rep. assures me the package will be left at the door and the driver will have a note that he/she doen't need to collect any payment. I then recieve notice that the first delivery attempt has failed due to no payment collected. I call UPS again and ask them what is going on, a misunderstanding. I am then assured that there will be no more misunderstandings and the package will be left on the door because the rep will personally speak to the delivery people to make sure they know I have payed already. By chance another resident of my house was at home on the second delivery attempt and assured this person they needed to pay for the delivery..so he did (too kind) and now UPS has collected fees twice.
So I call them AGAIN to sort it out and again I am assured that my money will be returning to my bank account...no money has been returned and the cheque from the second resident of my house has been cashed ... more than a week after I called to tell them they mistakenly accepted payment twice.

After a lengthy nightmare exchanging an item on eBay, the seller shipped the replacement via UPS. After watching the tracking info online, I made sure I was home to accept the item. To my suprise, the tracking number, when I checked online that day, said it had been delivered, which was complete bullshcidt. I had to sign up with UPS, create an account to file a claim. Since I had already had issues with the Ebay seller, they werent going to be any help on this issue. In the instructions in filing a claim it basically says you can do so, but without co-operation from the original shipper, dont hold your breath. A couple days later & a knock on the door, I had a guy from 3 buildings away with my package. It hadnt been delivered to 1116 but to 1113 & yet it had been marked as delivered to my address. With mature military folk as neighbors, I knew it had to be an incompetant ### driver who left the package somewhere else & I was right. But this time I got lucky. I got my damn package.
I sold on eBay for 14 years and always shipped through the good old United States Postal Service and NEVER ever was a single package lost or returned. I'll never use UPS to ship. The guy that drives the truck here around Copperas Cove, Texas looks and acts like a crackhead. Very unprofessional. Beware. I always hear cracks about the U.S. postal service. But in truth, theyre completely reliable in my eyes. I've always heard bad stuff about UPS. Now I have first-hand experience.

Very simple...UPS screwed up 8 VERY IMPORTANT packages. Would rather now pay triple the money for overnight shipping through another company. Not happy, not going to waste time writing this, as Im sure its just another complaint that the company will ignore and get away with. Jerks!

I paid three times for a package that was shipped from my home ground, but was marked next day by the driver. The Philly dept. did not record my payment the second time, and after two hours on the phone I paid the third time. I won't use UPS again, I suggest you don't either.

I ordered some medical supplies aka parts for a machine paid for 2 days shipping and 2 days has turned in to 7 days later and nothing.
i was suppose to receive my packages by the 4th of December and here we are on the 10th and nothing and all i get from UPS is sorry they were missed at the facility, or the driver scanned them but forgot to load them or they were never unloaded from the trucks.
I say this i used to love UPS but after waiting 7 days to get my packages when the USPS has been on the money as well as Fed-Ex, its just no excuse. they tried saying they have 10 times the packages every one else does and informed them that the USPS has more packages than them my sister works for them so i know. i paid for UPS because of this reason. Its the holiday season and USPS some times gets back logged but they still manage to get it there on time. I tried asking for a supervisor and instead of getting transferred i have been hung up on not once not twice but 20 times. the local facility cares nothing about if you get you're packages or not as she told me they will have a business with out me as a costumer and could not care less. after hearing this i asked to speak to her supervisor because i wanted to file a complaint she just starts screaming at me and hangs up the phone so i called the regular number and file a complaint but none ever gets record days later and i keep trying and nothing is getting done.
This is the dumbest thing i have ever seen the trash of the world is running things and we as costumers have no rights and have to sit on our back sides and beg to get our things. I wish there was something i could do about this situation but i am heading for day 8 and i have no hope i will get my packages.

UPS is a company full of liars. I got home an hour before a package was to arrive to find out they tried to deliver it 2 hours before they stated they would. After speaking with a manager, she promised to mark urgent and have them re-deliver it to me. I was told to expect a phone call in an hour. I waited two hours for a call and called back to speak with Patrica, better titled cold hearted Hannah, who said the last manager was wrong. She never cared that her company wasted my time. I then spoke to Chad, the manager in small business parcels in Arizona. Who said yes we should better train our managers and you have to suffer the consequences for our failures. They wouldn't even tell me if the package was on a truck or at the facility. It was a giant we don't care about our customers and we will be rude and waste their time. We just don't care. I would not us Ups if my life depended on it. Nor do they even care if you do.

UPS does not provide delivery times. They have estimated times. This is Christmas season. they are working well into the night. There is no way any shipping company that handles that many parcels can gurantee a delivery time. Next time, find someone who lives near the shipper, have them go by and pick up the merchandise, drive to your house and bring it it a predetermined time, then drive back home. That should be easy to arrange for a couple of grand.

this is one of the most ridiculous complaints on this website.

The delivery times are estimates only. What if the driver got stuck in traffic and arrived an hour later than the time? Would you blame him for the traffic jam?

Of course you would, but anyone with common sense would not.

I called in a return for an Apple product, I was told to pick a pick date and time that was good for me, she listed all options all which included morning pick ups. I explained I worked and it had to be before 3pm, and that I needed a receipt. I was told it wasn't a problem 9-3 was in the system for the following day and all was well.
The day of pick up a female dispatcher called me mid afternoon to inform me that UPS would only be in my area between 2pm and 4pm on any given day and that I either I drop it off at a UPS store or I had to have a pick up ONLY during that time frame. I asked if something is delivered to my home in the am why in earth could it not be picked up, and she actually told me that it didn't work that way, they weren't allowed to pick up from the same place they delivered!?! How asinine and unproductive!

Feeling utterly trapped as Apple required it to be shipped within the four days and I have no car and a child to pick up after school each day my only option was to take time off work and wait for them between 2-4 the following day. My boss wanted me in at 530, with transit 430 was the latest I could leave.

At 3pm I phoned and was informed that someone would be there by 6! I clearly for quite upset, explained the pick up was put off from the day before, explained that I was told a very specific time frame of 2-4 and now they were giving me yet another song and dance. He "wrote down in the notes" that 4pm pick up was needed, and then hung up.

At 430 the truck still had not arrived. I called and asked to speak to a supervisor. She came on and proceeded to tell me that UPS doesn't do morning residential pick ups nor do they provide receipts, furthermore she could not tell me where the truck was and would not assist me any further and that it was put in for 9-6pm today. You could imagine my outrage. While I didn't raise my voice, I began to question her operations standards, peppering her with simple and logical questions such as "why do you offer am pickup when we call?" and "why do you allow your dispatchers to lie to clients and not input in the correct information? Well I guess common sense was too much for her brain because instead of answering this UPS supervisor hung up on me. That alone tells you what kind of management is in charge at that company. The fact that deceit is at the core of their businesses practice should be enough to put them into the ground, but the fact that they "don't allow drivers to pick up when dropping off" should allow the demise of UPS sooner rather than later.

I will never buy Apple nor ship UPS ever again. Since I didn't not get a receipt nor was made to sign anything, I made sure I made a video showing the UPS driver, who was not surprisingly extremely rude picking up my package, which probably has a higher chance of being "lost" than actually making it back to Apple.

3 boxes for our business full of merchandise customers are waiting for were supposed to be delivered Thursday 2/20. Not delivered.
Friday 2/21 Tracking info “On truck for delivery” Friday night no delivery tracking says “Your package has encountered a delay”
Monday 2/24 “On truck for delivery” then in afternoon tracking says “Exception”. We contact UPS. On hold for an hour. Told being transferred to supervisor. Hung up on. Call back. Try to arrange to pickup packages since they are not being delivered. On hold for hour and a half. Hung up on again.
Tuesday 2/25 “The package was left in a UPS facility. / Delivery rescheduled.” Call, email, fax, live chat UPS customer service for a total of 7 hours today. Finally told Boxes are behind “the center” in a trailer and they will not go find the box and will call us when they get around to looking for it.
Here is their reply: “"I am very sorry you did not receive a call as quickly as expected. After reviewing the updated notes in our system, I have confirmed your package is unavailable for pick up today, 02/25/14, as requested. The local Management team indicated your package is located on a trailer that can hold hundreds, if not thousands, of additional packages. Due to this, your package is unavailable at this time and I recommend continuing to monitor the situation online at UPS.com for updated scans; this will provide the current status of your package.”
So you know where my package is and made a mistake for a week now but it’s too much work to fix it so we will just wait until you get around to finding our packages. This is UNACCEPTABLE.

I ordered a dresser that left Colorado. I ordered through Amazon and they were using UPS to ship. This dresser went to Nebraska and then Des Moines IA in order to reach me in Iowa City, IA. It shipped 2/25 and the estimated arrival date was 2/28 at that point. Then for no apparent reason some fool in Des Moines sends it to Phoenix and that's where the fun began. This mistake was made and I was never informed. I waited several days and then several more days only to call and be told it was in Phoenix and should take a few more days to get back here. A few more days went by and I called UPS Customer Service. They extended the delivery date to 3/11. They told me I couldn't file any kind of complaint because they changed the delivery date.
So 3/11 rolls by and no sign of it. They extend the date out to 3/18. Meanwhile looking to see what is going on, Phoenix sends it to Kansas, who send it back to Phoenix, who send it back to Kansas. Supposedly this is going to arrive at my house tomorrow afternoon but I simply don't believe it and there is no way to make them do their jobs and get it to me. I can't complain unless it's 24 hours after delivery when they haven't changed that extended date, which they always do. I don't know if this package even exists anymore, if it's beat to hell or if it will ever arrive. I can't get my money back and at this point UPS can drop off the face of the earth. The are truly United Pot Smokers because no one could be this stupid.

UPS told me that they didn't deliver to P. O. Boxes, this is only after picking up the package, carrying it across Southern CA, and giving it to the post office in a completely wrong town. Then they sent it back to the shipper and told us it was our fault and we have to pay again. Apparently it's our fault that they put the package in the wrong town, and it's our fault that no notice was sent to our PO Box due to the fact that it was IN THE WRONG TOWN. When we contacted customer service, he told us he couldn't care less and that "he wouldn't lose any sleep over it" meaning our great anger and disappointment in their mistake. As a small business owner and frequent online buyer, I am making it my job to let people know of their horrible service, and seek out alternate shipping methods. UPS shouldn't have this sort of attitude about the job they are supposed to be doing. Why be a shipping company that doesn't know how to handle packages? It's misleading. I will never ship through UPS again and urge the same of others; only then maybe their company may change.

Terrible UPS experience. Amazingly we received a delivery note within the context of both my partner and myself being in the property, without tv/radio turned on and windows open to hear the knock/buzz from the front door. Neither of us heard any knock on the door or doorbell ring. We're are so frustrated with the outcome considering we made every effort not to miss this delivery. We are convinced the only attempt of delivery was just the delivery of the note to end a work shift sooner. Now we have to wait until Monday for the delivery of a fragile item that now has to travel for a longer period.I doubt our complain will come to any constructive/positive outcome but hopefully if there are enough customers who complain on the same matter that it might suggest the UPS driver/all drivers may need further training, i.e, knock...wait...knock...wait

UPS...
Just like EVERY other (shipping) company out there, it is made up of the individuals within it. They either have PERSONAL integrity, standards with focus & drive on doing the right things OR they want to cut corners and are looking for things ($, time, work, etc.) to come easy. You can look to any company and you will find both types of people. Have I been happy with UPS? What it stands/allows for within it's corporation? NO! NOT ALWAYS!
Remember: That's certain people~ NOT UPS as a whole.
We are all human. We all make mistakes. It's what each of us as individuals choose to do from there forward.

Please note that your UPS delivery driver can't put the wrong time down for delivery attempts! All deliveries are prerecorded into his/her computer (Diad) and tagged via GPS satellite when each delivery is attempted. I read so many posts of angry and disgruntled customers who claim the driver never attempted delivery of falsified delivery time. This is impossible because every mile & step of a driver is tracked via GPS...

This is wrong. The DIAD can give a false time for a delivery. I worked at UPS for over 20 years. It is common knowledge within UPS. Scans can also added manually. How often does anyone check the GPS position of a claimed delivery attempt?

I am fighting with UPS on insurance claim they have denied. I had UPS package & ship an item, that was destroyed. They continue to make excuses to denie claim. I have all my documents and photos of item before and after. They even erased my account history online attempting to screw me over on it. I'm now going thru the Better Business Bureau with the complaint. If UPS is trying to screw you over try doing this. The more complaints they have against them, the more likely to get your money back. I'll never use UPS again.

I created a UPS label from my UPS account, dropped my package into UPS drop box and it is lost. I called couple of times and issued a claim to UPS. They asked detail information in the package and also asked me to provide them the invoice of the items in the package. I gave them all information and document. Finally, I got their response that they are unable to honor my claim because the package in question was not listed on my UPS pick-up record.

They already knew that my package was dropped in UPS box and not from pick-up. Why they want me to provide so many information, document and waste lot of my time?

Does UPS need to put some sign on each UPS box to indicate that they don't take any responsibility if it is lost?

Only UPS people can get the package in the UPS box and obviously that all packages are not on shipper's pick-up list. UPS gives their employees a very good excuse if they steal packages from drop box and don't need to take any responsibility.

I have a bad experience from UPS!

We have snow on the ground. If the UPS person came to the door, there would be footprints. There are no footprints at all. For two of my packages on two consecutive days, the UPS person has not bothered to get out of his truck to deliver packages to my home, and he has falsified his reports to suggest that he did deliver to my home.

UPS is the worst shipping company EVER. Never again will I do business with them. They have stood me up 3 business days now, after giving the status "Out for delivery" on my package that was originally supposed to be delivered to me last Thursday. It showed "out for delivery" again today, Monday, from 1.33 A.M and after 9:40p.m the status now changed to "We've left the package in our facility. This may cause at least one business day delay. / Delivery will be rescheduled." I'd have rather picked up my package from the shipping location had I known I'll have to wait over a week to get it from a distance of 150miles. This is unacceptable. I'd definitely not use UPS ever again and now will I let me family/friends to use them for any of their shipping needs. UPS is the biggest scam company in history.

Nothing but problems with UPS. Their cross border brokerage fees are insane and they always lie about it being the government. No UPS, . the government charges tax. YOU charge the outrageous brokerage fee others charge $10 for.

They also misdeliver all the time. In fact, I've never gotten a UPS package on time and without problem. I tell merchants I dont want UPS. But they use them anyway and sure enough - problems. They have delivered my stuff to a house 3 blocks away leaving it on his driveway. They have lies many times about attempting delivery. They have falsified customs documents covering the shippers label with their own. They have delayed things with the message "We've left the package in our facility. This may cause at least one business day delay. / Delivery will be rescheduled." and then never ever delivered it or say they did yet no package and no UPS truck on security footage. One time the box stuck liek urine and I found out they had an animal on the truck. Just the other day a UPS truck was outside my house for 10 minutes and he had a child with him. He left without delivering and I got the We've left the package in our facility. This may cause at least one business day delay. / Delivery will be rescheduled. message on tracking.

To make matters worse the call center is anwered by people all over the the place usually the Philippines. They just aggravate people with nonsense questions and read back the tracking you can already see.

I had a driver compliant on day he doesn't like delivering to me because my street is to busy with traffic. I called UPS on that saying he never has to come back, in fact they can just refuse to deliver to me and tell merchants that before they ship. But UPS wont do that. I had another time I had a digital piano coming from Costco. The piano box was big and heavy. The headphnes with teh piano came in a small light box. They brought the small box but left the big box at the depot. Typical UPS. To heavy see ... forget it.

So now I tell merchants, if you use UPS it is highly likely I will have problems and have to claim a refund. I keep these warning emails and if they still want to use UPS and there is a problem ... I call VISA and show them the info. Lost packages become chargebacks. Dont lie to do this but thats the only way people pay attention.

Thank you for your article. UPS FRANCE, Europe is surprisingly appalling too. The service is really unreliable not to mention on the brink of dishonesty. I was surprised to read your article as I naively thought that it was maybe France 's approach to discredit an American Company. But maybe, there is more that meet the eyes, and it might not just be bad luck but a desired outcome when customers get such an untrustworthy service. I will definitely not deal with companies using UPS.
An fed up customer.
