I purchased a set of King sheets that displayed (I thought) a price ticket of $14.99. After my items were rung up by the cashier, I noted that said sheets were actually $44.99. Close inspection of the ticket revealed that it was smudged leading to my "misjudgment" of the price. I was NOT prepared to pay this much for a set of sheets in Goodwill, or anywhere else! I admitted the error was mine, but that the sticker was deceiving and at $44.99 I did NOT want the sheets. Cashier "Becky" said that since our transaction had completed she couldn't do anything about it, and I was 'stuck' with them. I politely asked her to call forth the Store Manager. The Store Manager refused to come to the register from the stock room, sending yet another clerk in her place to tell me, basically 'tough luck'. I left the store feeling cheated, as the price sticker clearly WAS difficult to read, the first "4", definitely appearing as a "1". I felt I'd been deceived, and treated with the poorest customer service I'd ever encountered, anywhere. No one offered to delete/cancel my purchase and re-ring it (other items) sans the expensive sheets. No one offered an apology for my confusion. No one offered to allow me to return the sheets (purchased at that moment) for even a store credit voucher. Everyone seemed quite insistent that my confusion in the pricing of the sheets was due to my own stupidity, and that was "my problem." I certainly wasn't intending to dispute the price---only that the price ticket on the item was NOT clear to me when I placed the sheets in my cart and on the checkout counter. I feel I was a bit 'duped' (thought NOT intentionally) by the store, but treated very poorly when I asked the store to work with me and rectify what was a purchase error, due to (perhaps) the store's negligence in marking the item. I was as calm and pleasant as possible, but was treated rather rudely, and my complaint and request for a return clearly 'blown off' by the store's personnel. As a regular and satisfied customer of this store, I was surprised at the apparent lack of training provided the cashier, Becky, with regard to customer satisfaction. Her statement was, basically, "I can't do anything about it; if you didn't want the sheets, that's YOUR problem." I was stunned at her attitude, and also that of the Store Manager who even refused to meet with me to discuss the issue, and any possible options toward customer satisfaction. Could this be the 'new' Goodwill I've been hearing about, where I'm always asked to 'Round-up' my change to the nearest $, for an additional donation to your mission, and I gladly do as such? What happened to doing business in 'good faith', folks? $44.99 for a set of sheets in a thrift store? Sheesh! Next time, I'll simply head for Kohl's, where I KNOW I'll be treated as a 'Valued Customer', instead of a PT Barnum 'sucker'.
By the way, I can't really blame the cashier and clerk; they clearly had no idea what to do; but the Store Manager was a bonehead in not coming forth to greet a dissatisfied customer, no matter WHAT the complaint...whatever happened to human decency in commerce?
