We purchased the Whirlpool Duet washer (9150) and dryer set approximately 4 yrs. ago. We do 3-4 wash loads a week since it's just my husband and I. We started having problems with the washer last year where it will stop, beep several times and show an F-dl code, which correponds with a door lock error. At first it was sporadic then gradually became a common occurrence. I would like to mention that this problem is being experienced by hundreds of owners of this washer as the Internet is full of complaints about this problem as well as a mold problem.

We contacted an appliance repair place recommended by Whirlpool. We paid a total of $254.34 ($70 part; remainder was labor) for the repair which involved replacing the door latch. Less than one (1) month later, the washer is again malfunctioning with the same problem. We called the same appliance place. Repair tech is now telling us that the CCU board needs to be replaced. The part itself costs $185.55, not including labor. When asked why the misdiagnosis the first time, the tech said that Whirlpool instructs them to first replace the latch. If this doesn't fix the problem, then to replace the CCU board - all at the expense of the appliance owner.

Should we decide to replace the CCU board, the initial repair along with this 2nd repair will equal more than half of what a new washer costs. I'm sure most people would agree that 3-4 washloads a week is light usage for an appliance such as a washer. We spent over $2, 000 for both washer and dryer.

We cannot comprehend how Whirlpool sits there and does nothing about addressing what is without question a defect in this machine. This is not an isolated case, as evidenced by the hundreds of blogs on this problem. Whirlpool is very much aware of this problem as they have changed the design of the newer washers to eliminate this problem. Why has a recall not been issued for this machine?

I would caution the Whirlpool management that it will cost them more in the long run as customers have a long memory when it comes to the dependability of high-priced appliances. More importantly, we remember the manufacturer's lack of response and this will be a determining factor when we do any future shopping. We will also spread the word about the irresponsibility tht Whirlpool has shown.

And another idiot strikes again. The Duet series has sold close to ONE HUNDRED MILLION units, and hundreds of complaints are less than 0.0001%, just because you have an internet connection and are upset that the tech misdiagnosed the appliance (in which Whirlpool does not tell them how to do thier job unless they call to ask, other than that they can replace what they think the issue is) and tried to pass the buck to Whirlpool, doesn't mean that you should complain about Whirlpool, the unit is out of warranty, you're lucky that when the appliances are out of warranty that they do not asked that you be billed to speak with thier customer service unlike some companies.

Another idiot tries to strike back! We the consumers have the power and dont have to take what the manufacturers dishout just cause they wanna save a buck. It not at all unreasonable for consumers to EXPECT expensive appliances to LAST. As a veteran consumer of decades ago, I get disgusted when I see younger generation consumers just take it rather than NOT. Even Detroit figured out that cars have to be built better as sales were headed to Japan (I remember when Japan was the bad guy before China) $1000 appliances BETTER last longer than a short warantee. Noone can argue that having to replace $1000 appliance every couple of years is reasonable! And, without documentation, I seriously doubt 100 MILLION of this unit sold as there are just over 100 Million HOUSEHOLDS in the US. Additionally, having been in the retail consumer products business, I have seen products with very high failure rates.

I bought a set of this model washer & dryer and have had major trouble with mildew since day one. Also on my dryer, I can not select the "Heavy Duty" cycle; I was an idiot and did not report it. I totally agree that $2, 000 washers & dryer set should last a LOT longer than 3 or 4 years. and should have fewer problems than their cheaper versions. I will NOT buy another front load Whrilpool because for the price you pay it does not last long before you start having problems. MY ADVICE TO CONSUMERS IS TO BUY THE CHEAP TOP LOAD WASHER & DRYERS BECAUSE THEY SEEM TO LAST LONGER! I had a Magtag washer & dryer that lasted 15 years before I had problems. I can not recommend MAGTAG now because Whrilpool has bought them out. It is a shame that companies do NOT VALUE QUALITY anymore!

I bought a new front loading Whirlpool washer less the 2 years ago (I had one previously for over 10 years that finally wore out). I started having rash issues and my doctor asked about soaps, use the same "He" soap I've used for years. On a whim I decided to see if there was still soap in the clothes after washing. I always set the machine for extra rinse and us hot water always. I took a face cloth and rinsed it in my sink and found that it still had soap in it (suds were obvious). I tried different settings but it made no difference and even cut the amount of soap down to half a tablespoonfull. No luck.

I had a tech come and check it out and said the machine was working ok. He said the main problem with the new, water saving machines is that there is insuffient water for complete rinsing. I thought the water level looked a lot lower than my old machine and it is, new laws he said.

Anyway I am down to washing the loads twice, the second wash without soap. If the load is small that works. I chatted with an online customer service person to no avail.

So, because they are trying to save water I have to do the wash 2 or 3 times. What's wrong with this picture? So much for saving water. My neighbor was aware of my dilelmma so when she had to replace her front loader she bought a top loader and doesnt have this issue.
