Read full review of YMCAunethical behaviour of the director
The director of the Elwood Indiana YMCA is very unprofessional. He openly swears, he is never at the facility, the staff openly complains about how he handles anything related to the staff (always saying that he's "working from home"), he rarely answers any texts, calls, or emails from his staff, puts all (things he should be doing or involved in)responsibility onto an employee that is paid minimum wage, does not allow air conditioning into the gym during the summer, will not provide cleaning supplies when needed, and so much more. This is the worst director this facility has seen so far.

My son was being picked on by an older kid in the pool, kid was pulling his trunks up giving him a weggie, and pulling him under the water, my kid was disciplined for defending himself when I asked where are the supervisors he says they don't pay much attention because they are too busy on cellphones texting, day 2 another confrontation with camper kid was aggressive towards my kid so he holds the kid by his arm to keep mom back, kid strikes my kid in the eye knocks him down, we get a call from camp to pick my kid up, when I start to ask questions why he's being asked to leave, and not the kid who hit him I get no answer, camp director then says to me if you'd like you can keep your child out of the camp we'll reimburse remainder of money paid, so she is picking my child out and he's the victim he was the one who got struck in the eye, I asked how about the kid who assaulted him, her reply is it has to happen twice before he's suspended, really where's the justice for my child, we have been members if the YMCA for 20 years, not anymore shame on you
summer camp
On July 13th 2017 my 6 year old son left the cecil county ymca summer camp program on his own. He left the building unsupervised, went into the parking lot and no one noticed. My wife brought this to their attention and they have tried to sweep it under the rug. No corrective action has been taken. My wife has been publicly slandered by employees who still have a job. An employee has broken hippa law and publicly released personal information about my family and my sons medical condition. No corrective action has been taken. My wife asked for a copy of the video footage from where my son left and they have repeatedly lied to her claiming there is no footage. Nothing is being done about many other issues going on by anyone in this organization. Unfortunately legal action seems to be the only resort I have left.
disrespectful lifeguard
Me and my 4 kids go to the mt. trashmore ymca. a few days a go a lifeguard (brian) acted in a sexual manner by twerking. I am thinking of discontinuing my ymca membership if this is not dealt right correctly. I am extremely disappointed with my children's experience at this ymca. this happened 7/20/2017 at around 6-8 o'clock.
Thank you
Franchesca
Surprisingly I also once saw Brian twerking how odd.
unsanitary pool conditions
Twice this week a child has committed in the Greater Hartford YMCA pool. And the only action taken was use of the net and shock, once. No vacuum, and the boss let people swim in the area of the incident without informing anybody of what had happened. That is disgusting and needs to be taken care of immediately. I would not want my family swimming in that water, I don't understand why the boss of the place allows other to swim in a dirty area. DISGUSTING.
livestrong program
I dropped off an application for the Live Strong Program at the YMCA on Himes in Tampa, Florida a MONTH ago. I have called and left messages about half a dozen times to follow-up as to the status of my application. No one has called me back or made any attempt to contact me whatsoever by other means. I am trying to recover from my diagnosis of cancer, I'm 5'9" and only weight 102 pounds. I simply wanted to begin my path to recover and gain weight, gain strength, and become healthy again. I guess you don't want to help. I have given up.
hour to use the pool.
Today, me and two girls went in took a shower to get ready to get in the pool. When we were ready, the safeward told us that we couldn't use the pool. To go back from 7 to 9pm. YMCA didn't send any notification to let members know about new shcedule. If there is no access to the pool as before I'll cancel the membership and summer camp for my kids. I hope you can do something about it. Thaks in advance.
I am trying to stop the services
I and my family didn't go to YMCA for almost 3 months, because we were not available and when I asked them to stop the services because we will be not available in U.S. and will travel they asked me to pay the monthly payment or cancel but give 15 days notes. I am keeping say that we didn't available and we didn't use it for almost 3 months. So, I Wanas stop the service without paying nothing.

membership
I went into the YMCA in Clinton to apply for financial assistance for a gym membership. I was informed to fill out the entire packet, which I did. I took the application back and was given an amount that was not in my budget and I advised them that was out of my budget. I was then told that my application would be held for 30 days and wouldn't put any information in the system if I changed my mind to call them back. Well... I never called back, however, I had a voice mail from Melissa asking if I was still interested to call them back. I never called back. I recently found out that my account has been drafted since April. I had no idea this was happening or I was a member. I didn't get a card, call or other membership information. Regardless of filling out the entire application (as I was told), I told them I couldn't join at that time because the amount was still not in my budget and they told me they would not put anything into the system without my approval. This was fraud, unethical, manipulation and I was taken advantage of. I have recently spoken to Melissa, the same woman who left a voicemail and she refuses to refund the amount taken out of my account without my knowledge.
ymca disability swim program northcote aquatic centre
My 7 year old son receives one on one lessons through the Disability Access at Northcote Pool every Thursday between 6-6.30pm. NDIS FUNDED. I have sent an email re: concern about my son's teacher 'Mayve', and her lack of care, concern and engagements. As well as her interest in talking to her peers in the other lanes, whilst NOT supervising my son, whom has got co-ordination issues whilst he is in the deep end of the pool. In response to my email complaint - I was approached by a woman named Sandra whom dismissed my concerns about Mayve and re-assured me that she was experienced in Disability and was an 'excellent' teacher. Unfortunately the serious incident that happened after 1/6/2017 proved Sandras statement incorrect.
On 1/6/2017 'Mauve' instructed my son to swim backstroke. Mauve was not paying attention (as usual), and my son crashed head first into the edge of the concrete pool. My son cried, and he was taken out of the pool for a brief time (3 minutes I am told), and then forced back into the pool to continue swimming. He was still crying in pain 9 minutes after head injury (when I went to collect him). An Incident Report was not filled out. First Aid was not administered. I was NOT informed of the head injury.
I have a Medical Report of my sons injury to the top of his skull.
Can you please investigate? From my interactions with Katrina (Manager), there is a big cover up. I believe that Matthew (Area Manager) has seen the footage, and confirm the incident, however I get the sense that this serious incident is being treated too lightly.
I would also appreciate if you could please view the footage (and preserve the footage) of the swim lesson in question. Date 1/6/2017 time : 6-6.30pm.
I can be contacted on [protected].
Thank you.

open fondling and kissing at the rauner y
Today, we advised Louisa Williamson (supposedly the exec. dir. of Rauner)about the young female fondling and kissing in front of the floor length window at the Y where the staff who witnessed it turned a blind eye and swore they did not see it, although we watched them watch the event. But, Ms. Williamson, seemingly, is not empowered to act in any corrective capacity or counsel young errant females (particulalry in Chicago where blacks, like Ms. Williamson) are never comfortable admonishing non-blacks or, in this instance, a Hispanic) about appropriate public behavior, because my concern was shrugged off. This is the Y, and I would appreciate it if there were more of a level of decorum set for these young people. They are an affront to public decency. I mean, must we watch them engage in sex, and ignore their deviance because the personnel at the Y here find this normative? I guess this is the social foundation for their procreating a nation within this nation for their own social group. It is not for me, I find it a challenge to a sense of modesty for anyone who is civilized to endure post-pubescent level pornographic conduct. Who wants to see this? Not me, and not watching them. Perhaps, this is where we, as a society, are at: We are employing people whose social standards are as remiss as those of the adolescents and young adults over whom they are charged with being role models and good examples. I guess this is the appropriate setting (Rauner Y) for in-group indiscretions among the budding, post-pubescent Hispanics who have nothing else to do with their time, except rehearse procreating. What about the Y setting higher standards of self-development? And what about taking this behavior home where it belongs? Do these people even have a membership?
Maybe Williamson was uninterested in helping you because she knew the root of your issue was bigoted in such a fashion that entertaining your complaints would be on par with encouraging your own indiscretions. You said it yourself--you do not have to watch. From what sexless dystopia do you hail from in which young people are not are not interested in engaging physically with one another?
If these kids were white, would you even be here? You seem very concerned with Williamson's race and what that means for her even though you could not possibly be privy to her relationship with her own race. You are making unfounded assumptions which is not helping your complaint.
My suggestion for you is to stay home, steer clear of the Internet, and avoid most popular media for the time being. After all, the blacks and Hispanics can only bother you from home if you invite them. It is one thing to be sex-averse and quite another to be so unapologetically misogynistic, bigoted, and interested in passing judgment on those around you.
Interested in modesty? Good for you--practice it yourself instead of trying to force others into agreeance.
As an aside, if you're trying to argue that sex is exclusive to the purposes for procreation, I pity you, if you think some kids kissing each other is akin to sex, I pity you. Again, if you don't want to see people being people, do us all a favor and stay home.
after school care
I experienced a very unpleasent situation today at my son's school. As i was waiting for him i witnessed one of the YMCA after school teacher speaking to a chile in a very offensive way. Not just that but asked the child to stand up when the kid stood up and went up to her she said " im not afraid of you, now get off my face" then she told thw childewn she didnt give a " damn" if they didnt pay attention. She was there until 6:30. I asked one of the teachers who she was and she said she was one of the YMCA employees. I left and realized i didnt ask for her name. As i came back the YMCA employee said i needed to talk to her so i did. I told her i wanted her name and she sait its Tammy them i asked which YMCA she worked at and she said " thats none of your buissness." She was raising her voice at and i askwd her to lower her voicw and she kept going. One of the teachers asked her to please keep it down amd she wouldnt listen to her. She also had assistant with her who started saying stuff to me and i simply turned around and told him i was not talking to him and he said he didnt care. Iam im shock that YMCA hires these kind of people to take care of our children. This after scho program is not cheap and for them to have staff like this its dissapointing. I hopw they get rid of this staff and hire new ones. The staff belongs to the YMCA on ryan im fort worth Texas.
cussed at by another member
I was at the St Augustine, FL YMCA this morning 4/24. I arrived at 8:15 a.m. to workout on the treadmill before my personal training class. There was no one else on the treadmills. I noticed the fan was off and I turned it on. At approximately 8:45 a.m. 2 men came on and one got on the stairmaster and 1 got on the bicycle. The person on the stairmaster turned the fan off. I turned it back on and explained to him that I had arrived very early and picked that treadmill because it was in front of the fan. He started arguing that the fan was blowing on him. I told him I wasn't going to argue about it. The member on the bicycle told the guy to turn it back on. He turned his head toward me and called me a "b###." Other people heard him. I went to talk my trainer because I wanted him ejected. I understand from other people in the gym that he has done this before. Christina (trainer) and the manager went and "warned" him that if it happened again that he would be ejected. I thought this was a Christian organization and I do not go to a gym to be cussed. I don't feel like this was handled properly at all and I thought that the guy should have been asked to leave or apologize. I am totally embarrassed because it was heard across the gym. There should be a policy in place that noone but a staff member can touch the fans and they should be on at all times unless the staff member and everyone around agrees.
david d. hunting ymca unprofessional behavior
I recently resigned my position at the YMCA. I had a lot of problems: not receiving checks, a manager coming into a family bathroom at me and getting close to my face and yelling.
Also, after resigning, today I was told my membership was cancelled. My fiancé and I (we are gay) were refused to be let in and told to leave. The worker put her hand in front of my fiancé's face and refused to talk to her. The YMCA is all about inclusion and this seemed very unprofessional. Not sure what happened or the reasoning behind the treatment. I would love for these problems to be resolved.
"family" bathroom in a YMCA? "Worker put HER hand..." What in heaven's name is a woman doing in a YMCA?
ymca is not a community-based organisation any longer
YMCA manage our local Auckland council swimming pool called the Onehunga YMCA War Memorial pools and fitness centre.
YMCA took over management a couple of years ago. Prior to this another company managed the complex and we often enjoyed fundraisers; twice a 24hr spinathon (sitting on a stationary bike) raising money for Ronald McDonald House. Myself and one male actually sat for the 24hrs and cycled non stop. The rest of the participants were in teams of many. The second year that they decided to put this on I recommended that we look at fundraising for prostate cancer, Paw Justice or SPCA, child cancer amongst other worthy charitable organisations. The gym manager employed at the time refused and said that Ronald McDonald was close to her heart and she wanted to raise money again for them. I did not participate in their fundraiser but did my own fundraiser and donated the money to Paw Justice.
Last Saturday YMCA had a fundraiser (for themselves). Money they said would go towards children whose parents could not afford to send them to YMCA camp or helped them with memberships. It was a 12hr fundraiser. I was asked a number of times if I would put my name down to do an hour here or there and I said no I did not want to participate in the fundraiser. I am a fully paid-up member of the complex so my membership already goes to YMCA. I did not feel this was a worthy enough cause for me to participate in. I decided I would take my own bike down, sit it on a trainer and do the 12hrs non stop and support individuals who were doing 1hr sessions.
Friday afternoon I borrowed a bike trainer, prepared enough food for most people who would take part in the event on Saturday, organised all my food for 12hrs, loaded my car up ready for an early start Saturday morning.
At 9pm I checked my emails to see if I had to work Sunday morning.
And here was an email from the staff of Onehunga YMCA (one in particular – not a manager) who said ‘I hear you are going to do the 12hr on your own, you will have to register and pay $100’!
Why would I, a fully paid up (weekly payments) member of a complex be told that because I am going to sit on my bike at the complex for 12hrs that I needed to pay YMCA $100? I find this absolutely appalling.
My sponsors, who again offered $500 for my chosen charity, were disgusted and appalled when I informed them.
I am a local ratepayer and I am a member of that complex. My rates keep this complex open and maintained. This surely cannot be acceptable to anyone and I feel I am owed an apology.
YMCA; you should be utterly ashamed of your manager and staff member, and gym manager. This is unacceptable and will now be forwarded on to the news media by my sponsors. They are the ones who donate money to my charities. And to be stopped from doing this because of the ego of a small group of staff members is not acceptable.
space2, newcastle
Hello there,
My name is layla hunter. I previously worked on a voluntary basis at Newcastle YMCA Space2, pilgrim street. I personally believe that this center does not have enough versatility and does not seem open to a variety of young people. As when I was attending as a young person myself I felt like an outsider, and I am fully aware that this is far from the YMCA goals. They also take on countless volunteers and I have not witnessed a single DBS check.
As a volunteer here I spent every hour possible in this center working on bringing LGBT groups etc. into the center, also working on events and other groups to help bring in more young people and hopefully funding.
This hard work resulted in me feeling as though the saff of Space2 wanted me out, and with those fealin pushed me to leaving myself.
Overall, majority staff at YMCA Space2 are unprofessional and I highly recommend an in depth assessment of this center as the work hard to hide there flaws when local head office is around.
Thankyou for your time.

Prescott arizona,
The older woman sitting at the desk, short skinny and white hair, was so rude, I asked a question and she snapped at me as if I had said something personal,
When I asked if it was my tattoos, my face or if we knew each other personally she went into this rude attitude mode and then when I explained she was completely over reacting, and forced my friend to get a release by her dr for having a few limits on weight. After she was rude with me .
So I guess it trickles down hill when she has an attitude and is rude everyone pays.
unethical employee
I was a member at the East Shore YMCA in Harrisburg, PA for about 5 months. I went to the YMCA to workout to deal with depression from pregnancy and the death of my daughter's father. My daughter's father was mentally and physically abusive for the 2+ years we were together.
While a member I became personally involved with a trainer that I had my Y-fit appointments with. While we were getting to know each other during my workouts, I told him specific details of the mental abuse I endured. During our relationship he was doing the same mental abusive things my daughter's father was doing.
This trainer has a very deceptive past that the YMCA director is aware of. Considering their mission statement to support mind, body, and soul along with their advocacy work against all types of abuse, I would think they would be more careful of who they employ.
This trainer knew what I went through and intentionally did the same things. He has a serious problem from his past that he refuses to stay in therapy for and won't acknowledge his actions are mentally abusive.
I don't think he should be employed at the YMCA where he can take advantage of people because he is very deceptive and his unethical behavior goes against what they portray themselves to stand for.
