facility
Very disappointed about this YMCA branch. First of I sign up the same day I cancel my membership- yes the experience there was that horrible. Mediocre quality, dirty locker rooms, poor hygiene, dirty facility, outdated equipment, people yelling, cursing and using foul language while you are working out. Not enough equipment. Crowded. Staff inconsiderate. Very little to none group exercise classes which are a joke. Do your research well, they are all about the $$$ and don’t care about their members. Anyway they charge me an activation fee and month fee for using this facility for 1 day only. I communicated with them and from what I gathered they want to eat up this money. I told them since I’m not coming back again I can pay for 1 day membership only- they seem they don’t want to hear about that. Absolutely unacceptable, disgusting the way they treat people. I was told I needed to wait- I understand the game they are playing is to make you wait longer/time waster so that they can take your money from the draft from the bank. FYI-I check with my bank the transaction didn’t go through, which means it can still be cancel. Also they claim to be Christian based- this is only for Show- unsure if that’s there business strategy to use religion to make money- definitely the fruit of the spirit is not present there! This YMCA branch should stop using religion to sell their services as they are a misleading and misinforming the community about who they are really about.
Desired outcome: Refund
Alliance Ohio YMCA hot tub. Repair needed soon
The hot tub has been down for over a year would be nice to
See it replaced or repaired which ever is most financially
Sound ...other wise I will go to better facility's in the chain ...
I enjoy everything there is available and some day's that would be relaxing...I'm just one person but concerned... blessing to you all and hope this can be looked at and taken care of...
Desired outcome: Fixed or replaced is my hope
Membership and guests
My son enjoys going to play basketball but would like to take friends/guests sometimes. He can't take a guest that is under the age of 18 unless I as the guardian stay. If his friend was a member him being only 13 is no problem though. That makes absolutely NO sense. The YMCA is supposed to be a community friendly safe place for kids to go. It's a minimum, of around $50 a month. Probably more. Even though you can apply for a low income discount. I can't control his friends families. Kids just want to play freaking basketball. I pay for myself and two kids. My stepson isn't always here. He should be able to bring any other kid in his place
Desired outcome: change this stupid rule. I have things to do. I cant sit there to babysit while they play basketball. Nor is it necessary besides this stupid rule.
Service and unprofessional
My wife had membership, which was only use 5 time so she did feel the need to keep the membership,
Then my son devin stated a membership for his siblings to have done where to this was doing the time of covid so he started the membership so the can lose weight and utilize the gym , and ago they only went the facility less then 10 times,
So I purchased a membership 03/07/23 me and my wife went the ymca to work out her doctors told her she need to lose weight for health reasons, remind you I never was the card holder, I was treated very rude , and told I can not visit the facility anymore since I refuse to pay other balance, this was very embarrassing, [protected] Vincent white

Desired outcome: To have my family to able to enjoy their community ymca
Job posting on Indeed
I love the YMCA and it’s core values, I particularly love the community connection. I retired from Aerospace after 38 years of service and am currently seeking part time employment. I am an active member of the YMCA in Laguna Niguel CA. Recently, I have applied for a couple of job postings with my local YMCA which clearly indicate an hourly rate of $15.50-19.90 per hour. This is very misleading. The job hourly rate is $15.50 period. No wiggle room for someone who brings a lot of experience to the table. My question is why are you advertising an hourly rate that you clearly do not support?
Desired outcome: An answer to my question.
Ongoing racism from an employee at Charles City Iowa YMCA
There has been an ongoing issue with employee Spencer Odom in regards to the way he treats my grandson. We have been to the Y many times and have spoken with the general manager and last week my daughter met with Lance and a board member in re: to the way Spencer treats my grandson. My grandson is Black and everything always boils down to racism. Tonight Spencer accused my grandson of stealing money and accused him of using the N word. When I called to question Spencer about it he hung up on me which is his norm.We are getting the NAACP and Civil Liberties Union involved. We have tried to resolve this in a fair and timely manner giving the benefit of the doubt to the Y staff and it's obvious that your mission statement not only doesn't mean anything nor is it adhered to in Charles City Iowa.
Desired outcome: Spencer is a bully racist and has no patience to work with children, he needs to look for work elsewhere. Tired of him abusing children and him getting a pass because he is in a wheelchair.
Private swimming lessons
February 2022, I registered my son to take private swim lessons. Unfortunately, to date, my child still has not received any lessons. I spoke to numerous YMCA personnel in person. I was told that there are only two individuals, giving private lessons and they are booked. YMCA, said I would receive a call to make arrangements for that to happen, but that was not true, they did not call. Meanwhile, I attempted to hold membership, because services were not being provided and I was being charged every month and services were not being provided. I was told I could not do so. I paid for services and membership fees and received absolutely nothing. One year later, and I still have not received lessons for my son.
I spoke to a Ms. Eunice, Mr. Noel, and Ms. Bianka, all of whom were not helpful at all.
Desired outcome: I want a full refund for services and membership fees.
Unprofessionalism with management
Good afternoon,
I am a patron of the Hammond Family YMCA in Hammond IN. I have had a membership with the organisation for almost 2 years now.
I have reported misuse of public areas and disrespect associated with such subjects by both staff and patrons in the past, however I have noticed only further belligerence from the individuals with almost a more brazen attempt to be disrespectful toward me and today 02/26/23 I witnessed why.
Upon informing a woman blocking the workout path I was currently using and becoming disrespectful, I reported the situation to Sharon Bohling. We were then both spoken to by however the woman commented "You know me" and I instantly noticed a shift in behavior. While my concerns were dismissed and I was told "we can't have turf wars", she then proceeded to continue to laugh and joke with the woman who continued to be LOUDLY disrespectful (the woman instantly became belligerent when I respectfully brought up that she was blocking the path; please check the cc video of the turf area on 02/26/23 between 9am and 10am for reference)
I felt very unheard and incredibly disrespected in the situation. The fact that a staff memeber may be on a friendly basis with particular individuals should not play a part in how a situation is handled. I do not feel comfortable speaking with Sharon regardless of the situation because she WILL be biased which sets me up to be constantly uncomfortable in an environment I have paid to attend for two years.
I will unfortunately be exploring other locations and other gyms to remedy the discomfort however I do wish that this behavior could be brought to the attention of the local YMCA superiors due to the fact that this is completely unprofessional and regardless of personal relationships with individuals, wrong is wrong and it should be handled accordingly.
If anyone wishes to contact me about this issue, my number is [protected]
Thank you for your time
Desired outcome: I would like an apology.
Rude service
Today I had a horrible experience in the Coney Island branch of YMCA. Priscilla was denying entry to my 17 year old brother because he was “too young” I am his guardian and have full right to sign for him and take care of him. She insisted that he won’t go inside because she felt he was being rude to her. I don’t understand how she could make decisions like that without the manager present

I pay a lot of money to come here and play basketball, and the staff cant be bothered to post the open gym schedule until the day they’re actually closed. All the time I show up dressed with my basketball only to find pickleball going on WAY past its cutoff time, or a bunch of kids sucking their thumbs who will probably never play organized basketball again. Only after weeks of this did they finally put the open gym schedule out, which is still rarely adhered to. Additionally, the guy whose office is in the gym is rude, and honestly at this point I want to cancel.
Desired outcome: Better adherence to open gym schedule/better open gym schedule period/no more staff being rude and looking at me funny because i have earrings and tattoos. Or i’ll just cancel. We’ll see
About before school care
My son was attending the before school program at his school through the y and a situation happened that was very inappropriate and when brought to the supervisors and directors attention, they acted as if they cared and agreed at first but in the end did nothing to make my child feel safe and comfortable enough to stay in the program... I just feel there was so many things that was wrong with their investigation and choice of words when following up.. They almost made it seem like because my child is new to the program and area that he may just be having a hard time adjusting when my child has never had that problem in the past and we have moved plenty of times and he usually fits right in! Even his teachers can back me up on that... Children need to be held accountable for their actions and in this situations I dont feel nobody was held accountable and in the end my son is suffering trying to deal with what happened to him.
Desired outcome: Is that more should be done to make my child feel comfortable enough to come back because this is not fair to him! This is also a huge inconvenience to us because now i am missing work to find another program and so far they are all full
Closing the indoor pool for lightning
The Moody YMCA in Metro Dallas, TX continues to close the INDOOR pool for lightning and thunder. Any basic research would tell the YMCA that there has not EVER, at any point in time, been a confirmed lightning strike in an individual that was swimming in an indoor pool. As a paying member of the YMCA it's non sensical that this policy would be in place for ONE POOL in Texas.
Desired outcome: Stop closing the pool during lightning or when lightning is supposedly 'near'. Whoever is in charge of making this decision should be working in a different department or be properly trained on when it's appropriate to evacuate the pool.
women's showers
Three of the five women's showers in the Hornell, NY YMCA have been "down" since September of 2022 (it's now January 2023). The facility director told one person affected that "the parts are on order but there's only one plumber available in Hornell and he'll get to us when he can". I'm VERY sure there's more than just one plumber, in a 20 mile radius, that can fix these but they're still inoperable.
Desired outcome: Fix the showers!
Paystubs
I worked for the ymca for 3 years, I was moved up many times along with pay raises.
When I put my 2 weeks in for not wanting to be overworked any longer they instantly black listed me.
My co workers were told not to talk to me, told I quit over money, even though I have the text messages with my boss telling why I quit. I was harassed by a member for 4 months and my daughter was fat shamed.
And now after complaining I get a letter saying you’re banned (which I had to laugh because I don’t use their facility, even when I worked there).
No management backup and the executive director Mike k. Would threaten woman and racially discriminated against me.
There is so much more.
But I truly just need my pay stubs because we are purchasing a home and obviously underwriting needs them.
Desired outcome: Need my paystubs
Yoga qualification
YMCA is the worse place to take a fitness qualification. I paid for the level 3 yoga qualification and I completed all my work by the deadline which involved seated exams, live assessments and loads of course work. They replied to say that everything needed to be marked by the deadline. Which makes no sense because how I can I account for the time which it takes for them to mark my work and give me a result by the deadline date. It could be many months for them to mark and send me a result. All through school and university a deadline date meant a hand in date, it’s completely crazy that I would somehow need to account for time for them to mark it and send it back. When I did a qualification with another provider it took 5 months for them to mark and send me the result. How could I possibly know when I would need to send in the work and get it all back to me and marked before the deadline. All the work that I did now has been voided even though I completed every part of the course. The worse experience iv ever had it’s so upsetting.
Desired outcome: To have my qualification as I have done all the work.
Staff at the front desk
Hi I was at the rite hite YMCA in browndeer Wisconsin and they would not let my son in as a guest he is 11 years old they made me and him wait out in the freezing cold for our ride because they wouldn't let him in they said the only way they will let him in is if I pay a extra 34 dollars per month and add him to my plan he doesn't even come with me much I already feel that I pay to much per month as it is I pay 59 dollars every month I was very upset about this I have never had this issue before
Desired outcome: Add my son to my member and bring my cost of 59 dollars per down lower
Waco, TX
The Sr. Director of Membership (Virginia S.) services needs to be investigated on how unprofessional and inappropriately she handles separating employees. After 5 years of dedication and service, it is extremely disappointing that only removal from the schedule is warranted, with no regard to an exit interview or following protocol. The entire membership staff all discuss pay rates openly which is complete inappropriate and the Executive Director is either oblivious or wants to give the perception that she is. I pray that they are Blessed with exactly what they deserve as a reflection of how they represent the organization. Truly disgraceful! Please contact me with any questions and/additional information as my intent is to simply bring light to these shortcomings so that positive changes can be made.

Desired outcome: Investigation of staff termination procedures and employees fraternizing and discussing personal and internal matters openly; they shouldn’t be able to behave this way with no regard for consequences.
Public safety complaint - live electricity at ymca poolside
The McCormick YMCA Aquatic Center has a boom box plugged into an outlet that sits less than 5 feet from the edge of the pool. The life guards control the use of this. I attempted to have a conversation on multiple occasions with the life guard staff and was met with "back talk" basically saying to mind my own business. We can only hope that an accident will never happen but why create the opportunity? This pool is in constant use. Some life guards walk the perimeter of the pool leaving the area where the radio is located alone and unattended. After school programs put children in this pool.
Common sense says it should be restricted to the aquatic office.
Electricity, water, children, accidents...
I can take a photo if you need proof.
Desired outcome: All electric appliances should be banned in the pool vicinity.
Service/ discrimination
I’m prepared to get the NCAAP involved as well as my Attorney on this matter if this is not handled just and swift. I will not accept any kind of treatment some of your staff wants to deliver without sending this issue up the chain.
This evening at the gym as I was sitting down a member threw a ball at me while I was minding my own business not messing with anybody at all on the phone.
I rolled the ball back and said hey toss it to the side left or right. His response was [censored] the [censored] up. I said hey how old are you? You’re a kid right ? He said no I’m 18.
we had a few words then I stopped the conversation and said let’s go talk out here if you wanna get something off your chest let’s talk away from the kids.
He said do something about it I fight for real I’m MMA. I told him that’s cool I was golden gloves and if you fight for real then your hands are registered and can get in trouble fighting so let’s just go talk.
I walked out went to a room and said bro if you want to fight that up to you but we can talk about the problem.
Then he walks out grabs his friends and says let’s record this.
I went back to the gym because he didn’t want to talk to me instead he wanted to just instigate.
I walked off and went back into the gym with my sons. That’s when he went to complain about our interaction.
As I was talking to your employee he walked up to me and put his hand on the side of my face which is when used my left hand to knock his hand off of my face.
As your employee was standing there I asked her he is allowed to put his hand on my face and she said verbally no but I’m just here to diffuse the situation.
I said it’s not situation to diffuse or handle I just don’t want anybody throwing anything at me.
I walked off and your management team took the man out the gym asked him questions and when they arrived back in the gym I was asked to leave. Under the false accusation that I put my hands on somebody.
The only contact that was made was when he put his hand on the left side of my face while I was off guard talking to the employee at that point I also brought it to her attention.
On a regular basis I deal different situation good bad and the ugly and I have never 1 time laid a finger on anybody ever outside of when I did box legally for sport under the amateur athletic union.
I am writing you with my side of the story because your staff never asked mines.
Also after you review the footage you will see I never touched anybody at all. I separated myself from the other members to discuss with another adult an issue. Which was my attempt to diffuse the situation once I noticed it got too heated. You will also see that on film.
I am formally requesting the trotter Ymca footage between 6:58 pm and 7:23pm
On the night of 01/04/2023.
That should help you find the exact time and for the footage to review.
Perjury is a felony which of course is lying about what actually took place.
Falsifying a police report is also illegal.
Racketeering definition is
dishonest and fraudulent business dealings.
RICO Act
§ 1961. Definitions
As used in this chapter
(1) racketeering activity means (A) any act or threat involving murder, kidnapping, gambling, arson, robbery, bribery, extortion, dealing in obscene matter, or dealing in a controlled substance or listed chemical (as defined in section 102 of the Controlled Substances Act), which is chargeable under State law and punishable by imprisonment for more than one year;
- Organized crime is as simple as making an illegal game plan to influence a decision from a member of the executive or judicial branches of government.
Again I have never put my hands on any individual at all in your gym. Or any other YMCA.
I have never been in any trouble at all legally outside the typical speeding tickets.
This was totally unacceptable and unfair.
- Specifically you have a very aggressive & disrespectful employee in Monica. She has a very very short fuse with ( certain members). Other she has a lot of patience and seems like a completely different individual.
- I know what prejudice looks like and what the YMCA stands for and it’s absolutely not what Monica makes over 30 individuals every morning feels.
Desired outcome: An apology from Monica for her continued discrimination and making me and my entire basketball group feel like 2nd class Ymca members
Arbitrarily renaming status with silver and fit to gouge seniors
Seniors here at the YMCA in Mt Vernon WA were nearly the sole supporters for thirty years prior to the new one built at 1902 Hoag Rd (MV). the contributors were mainly seniors, three seniors gave a million each. there used to be 13 classes a week for seniors, with four certified senior instructors. some of the classes had 35 people. yet when the pandemic hit, out went all the classes, never to be offered again. fired were the four instructors. NOW this YMCA, without changing anything, has found a loophole with Silver and Fit and declared that they are no longer 'standard' gym but 'premium' gym. Now the Silver and Fit members, who pay extra thru their secondary insurance, must pay the YMCA $20 per month. do you have any idea how tight money is on a fixed income, no way to increase income, no way to make more money, etc etc. EVERYONE (with some luck) will the a SENIOR someday, why are you screwing the people who are seniors today. treat people (esp elders) with the respect you hope to get when you are a senior. gouging people with a fixed income is a very very very dirty thing to do.
Desired outcome: (1)Be honest about your status with Silver and Fit and register as 'standard'. (2)hire certified instructors for senior fitness classes (3)offer senior fitness classes between 9am and noon three to five days per week.
