In September 2011 I called retro to cancel membership. The membership was a gift to my son to use for 1 yr. He hadn't used gym in over 6 months. I called to cancel and was told i had to send a letter. Well i thought I'd stop in to cancel in person. NOPE! they were having none of that! They insisted it was in the 'agreement' that I send a letter. OK. I sent a letter and the woman behind the counter assured me she would accept the letter even if it wasn't registered because it wads in the 'agreement' that it had to be a registered letter. At this point I could see where they were going with cancellations. I send the letter and I'm still getting harassing calls from ABC Financial (who by the way has numerous complaints lodged against them for unscrupulous tactics). Today I call Retro and explain that I am still getting calls from ABC and I was told i still owed money for the month of Sept as well as Oct and Nov. I'm stunned. Retro quickly cited "it's in the agreement" BS.
They want 60 days notice to cancel. Who knows 60 days in advance that they may have to cancel membership due to any number of reasons. The manager at Retro said to me she would waive i month. BIG DEAL! Beware Retro Fitness. They are scammers
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer's satisfaction.
I paid for my son to go Retro Fitness, he went for about two years, then he joined the Navy. He was supposed to leave in June, but in February he go notice that there was an opening and he would be leaving in two weeks. He went into Retro Fitness in West Long Branch, NJ (next to Kmart) and told them, they out and out lied to him and said that they would cancel the membership just contact ABC Financial. When I called them they said that 1. I could not use the membership or have it transferred to me even though I was paying for it. So I hastily mailed a certified letter, we all know what would have happened if I didn't send it certified. so my son leaves for the navy, and they want two more months even though no else can use it. I paid one month, but two is totally unfair especially when my friend walked into the Bricktown Fitness and cancelled with no issues. My son joined the navy and this is what Retro Fitness thinks of kids trying to do right for our country? DO NOT JOIN THE RETRO FITTENSS IN WEST LONG BRANCH NJ -
I didn't even see the part above where they waved one month for the previous comment. They wouldn't even do that for me, the gym saying it had to be ABC Financial and ABC Financial saying it had to be the gym. what is so stupid about it is if they would have transferred the membership to me, I might have continued going to the gym - and they would have had a happy customer instead of a mad one. I want someone from the company to email me at ljulian5@yahoo.com - if they could write off one month for the previous writer they can do it for my son too. He is in the Navy - he didn't just decide to squirt his responsibility, plus how do you charge a two month cancellation policy on something that is no longer under contract - we never signed a new contract after the first
