beware I worked here
Listen to me i work here for a couple years in southern store in florida and even was manager. Im not going to completely bash company cuz i did see many happy customer but i also see many shady things. I know cuz i see first hand. The founder is steve belford who mainly work at home office and bill belford who is his partner and runs and opens all the southern stores where i workd is the owners behind american freight. Bill belford always come around training us on selling and he only care about closing sales and getting the money for american freight. All he care about is $$$. He dont care what you say or do to customer as long as you close them. He dont care about delivery driver making money either. They do many shady things. I see customers lied to and they do a bait and switch advertizing. They do have a lowest price on furniture but quality is not that good either. Jus beware.

cheap furniture but an expensive price
Over a year ago during the process of us building a house we place furniture on layaway. Never thought that I was going to deal with this mess. After paying off my furniture we set up a delivery date for everything to be delivered. On the day of delivery I just happen to call to make sure everything was a go and come to find out that they never place the right address on the sheet for the delivery guy.
Thank goodness my husband was home he had to help them take everything in because there was only one guy. why you would do delivery with one guy is beyond me. We paid $70 for the delivery should have been less since we went everything in the house. Once everything was in and set up we were pretty pleased. We bought a sofa and like seat, bed, and a dinning room table. After about a month I noticed the dinning room table begging to peal on top. Told this company, said there was nothing they could do. Call back for a second time and started to deal with Jesse he seemed to be OK. He Said would call me back after he call the manufacture to see what could be done. Weeks went by no phone call. Called back he clarifies that I need to get the same furniture that I had needed to do an even exchange. Told him there is no way that I am going to have the same furniture I want something different. He agrees to exchange for something else. Go in and pick something else out. mean time I am noticing the sign that says all returns are done by company check. When I questioned about this he tells me that they do not do returns. I start to figure this is on huge mess. We pick out what we want Jesse tells us that he will call in a couple days to set up delivery. a week and half later still no call. Call speak with one of the guys there, they have no clue what I am speaking about, Jesse is off and someone will call me back the next day Finally get the delivery set up, today they are suppose to be here between 12-4. Just felt like something was not right. So I called to see what was going on and no one had no thought about the delivery. Jesse never scheduled it. Figure that, so they have to call Jesse to find out what is going on. Now delivery is between 3-6 and I have to pay another $50 for delivery to get new stuff and for them to take what I have. the company is the worse that I have ever dealt with, Jesse just agrees with you and never does what he says. I would watch out for this place. Cheap furniture but an expensive price.. That same day delivery does nto apply with the company…

I was an employee for American Freight For 9 months 8 of which I spent as a warehouse employee I worked every day wether it was on the clock or off just to show them how dedicated i was to the company I then was promoted to be a salesman I started on may 11th at the end of the month numbers were pulled month to day written business for me was above $50, 000.00 other employees including the removed and new assistant mngrs and the manager were all under $44, 000.00 the owners brother came in acting like he was a customer which I knew as soon as he walked in who it was I was infored earlier in the day by the new assistant mgr that he was stopping in that day He was very short and not talkitive about what he wanted to purchase I was in the process of getting the assistant mgr so I could turn him over to her when he walks right out of the front door before i could stop him he was gone my regional mgr pulled me aside 2.5 hours later and tells me im fired for not turning over the customer the owner steve belford has had it out for me since i started sales Im pretty sure this was a set up and so does everyone else I have never even been written up at this job except for one time i was late to work Im debating on if I should make this a legal matter or not.

Well, yeah, sure, if everyone you've told your completely one-sided version to thinks you were set up, that's pretty solid evidence. Either that, or none of them could figure out WTF this long, rambling 400-word sentence is supposed to say.
You had better hope the attorneys don't find this post; it's pretty solid evidence in their favor that you cannot communicate effectively with customers or management.

We went into American Freight on May 18, 2011 and picked out several items that we wanted delivered the end of June or beginning of July. The salesperson said that wasn't a problem because one of the living room sets was still on order from the manufacturer and wouldn't be there for about 2 more weeks. i paid for my sofa/loveseat 2/22/10. i was never given a specific delivery date, they implied they had 4 weeks due to the contract. i call the store constantly, they hardly answered & they could never tell me when i could receive my furniture. after a month of i don't knows, & were trying to ship it from another store, i asked for a refund. they tried to convince me to find something in the store but i wanted my$1058 back. they told me they couldn't give me cash back, i am currently waiting on a check...keep me in your prayers...smh 3/21/10
non-delivery of goods
I ordered and paid for furniture from them on January 17th 2011. It is supposed to take 2 to 4 weeks for the furniture to come in but I was told the furniture was already ordered for inventory and was lead to believe it would be in sooner. As of march 14th I have not received the furniture I paid for and have not received any explanation as to why it was late. When I call, they tell me they will call me when the furniture comes on. They keep telling me it will be in the next day or the next week. One time I was on hold for 30 minutes and gave up. One time, after I wrote them on their web site, they did call and offer free warranty. They promised regular updates as to the situation but I have received not one update.

This place is a crock of SH- - I''ve been waiting since Feb of 2011 for my furniture i paid $530.00 for a chair i was told it would be in in two weeks 3, 4, 5, I kept getting the run around so i told Mike Schweizer the so called manager at the Arlington Road. store in Akron, Ohio That i may Put the money towards a sofa set i had considered as well. So the 6 week i got the call that the chair was in. Why did i find out the chair had been sold when i called to say i would be coming on that weekend . I was livid that crackpot Mike [censored]head took it upon himself to transfer the money from the chair towards the sofa set. Now same SH- - different day the run around I have contacted me an attorney.
I feel your pain but don't rush them they would delivery your purchase damaged like they did mine, and give you several reasons why they cannot return your money and then tell you that they don't know when they can replace it. "Oh yeah! and charge you and extra charge for the delivery. I plan on suing or knocking a whole in the wall with a big truck !
More than I asked for
We just received our new furniture, and noticed bumps on our family and children.. It has only been in our home for 2 days and... I have found bed bugs! Now I am calling the store for days and not a single answer... What am I supposed to do... We spent over 700. 00 dollars on this furniture... And now have a bug problem... They are big not little.. They did not come from our home.. We never had them before and now do... I have no more money to purchase new furniture.. Or the money to treat or home... By means of baking them to death...

We also have found bed bugs after buying a mattress box spring and bedroom set from the Morse road store in Columbus. Never had any kind of bug problem, we live in a home we have owned since 2004.
We purchased a bed from the clarksville tn store and same thing. Never once had them and all the sudden were killing them off day by day sleeping on the couch bit nothing works. Have yall had any luck finding a solution will American frieght?
I also purchased furniture from American Frieght and have found Bedbugs.
bad customer service
The sale started off okay we put a bunkbed, mattress, and dresser in layaway for my grandson. We were to come back in two weeks to get it out but when we got there the sales person (I will not call her a lady because she was far from it) tells me that some of my things aren't in stock and would have to be ordered. I recieved a phone call on 6/26/2011 at 6:21 pm from Mr.Stephen Joel Belford owner and president of American Freight.First Mr.Belford called me on his cell phone and it came thru as a private number.This was my first indicator that I was being called by a slime ball.Second he made a threat that he was going to sue me for harassment pertaining to several postings on the internet about him and his company American Freight.Third he then hung up leaving no return phone number.Another sign of a slime ball.
I returned his phone call today and contacted his office as any professional would and left my number for him to call me back.Once again he called back on a private cell phone number just like the slime ball he is. Mr.Belford is the type of individual that says everything and dosen't allow the individual at the other end of the line to say much of anything then he hangs up.From everything that I know about individuals of his mind set he suffers from wanting to be in complete control of people and having a self esteem problem.I've found this person to be rude and arrogant both of the times I have the unpleasurable experience of talking with him on the phone.
Mr.Belford assumes alot with out facts or evidence and he has just proven it by his assumption and threats to me personally because he thinks I'm the one that has posted statements about him and American Freight.
It's obvious Mr.Belford dosen't know how to do anything but threaten people when he dosen't like what they say about him. He is quick when it comes to spouting words out of his mouth but the mind dosen't seem to operate very well with his mouth otherwise he wouldn't hang the phone up on people he has called so quickly.Mr. Belford appears to be the type of individual that's assumes he can intimidate and steam roll right over people when he feels his backed into a cornor. Like a scared dog he barks loud but dosen't have the A_ _ to back it up and he knows this, that's why he barks so loud. I really feel sorry for this misguided individual and anyone that works for him let alone the public.
My personal opinion is the public and potential employee's should think twice before spending your money with this company or working for this company.
If this progresses any further than Mr.Belfords bark I will publish further what he is up to. Right now there is no telling how far Mr.Belford might take this because he sounded very mad and frustrated on the phone and *** people do *** things against people now days. This guy could be a threat to my life but only time will tell.
poor quality furniture/limited warranties
Two and a half years ago we purchased a sofa and love seat from American Freight
for the exorbitant sum of nearly $700. We were told it should easily last for 10
years or more. Hughes Furniture was the manufacturer. In two years time the springs
were falling out of the bottom of the couch and wooden slats were poking out the
back. After calling American Freight I was informed that Hughes only offers a 1-year
warranty on their furniture so basically I was out of luck. I can't imagine how
they get away with selling furniture that is such poor quality! We're practically
sitting on the floor and now have no money to replace something that we were
told would last decades.
How does American Freight stay in business by buying cheap furniture and then reselling it at outrageous costs?

We purschased a Futon for my 17 yr old son mid June, after the first week one of the legs came off. My husband put it back on, then 3 weeks later 2 more legs came off. After dealing with an *** at the store she said it was defected to bring it back, long story they would not take it because of a couple stains. My complaint is the legs wont stay on. They insulted my common sense and refused to take it back, so now I have a $250 addition to my burn pile out back. I called the corporate office who stands by there policy. So buyer beware you will get screwed on the deal if your furniture breaks for any reason. Dont buy from them spend the extra money an buy better quality.

OHG, this place has great deals, but their customer service is awful! It took us 4 weeks to get all of our $3000 forth of furniture that we bought from them! Finally after 2 weeks of waiting for 3 pieces they got new management! Reallllllyyyy, it took that long for someone to realize that they didn't care?! I called 5x aweek asking where our "next day delivery" was, and everyday it was, " yes, I will personable put it on the truck" -----2 weeks later and 10 phone calls it arrived. Even the subcontracted moving company that delivered our furniture hated them. I am a restaurant manager at a well known restaurant and if I ever treated my customers the way they treated us...we would of been closed 2 years ago!
I purchased several products in the past from the Fuller Road location. The last time I was in there and made a purchase a man named Rob was very rude to me and made a mistaake on my order.. He smelled like marijuana and he looked and acted like he was high. Last time I do business in a place that that is operated by people under the influence. Bad experience.
Unprofessional and unethical store managers
Where to begin! In good faith we purchased a bedroom set from American Freight for over $2600.00. What a mistake. It was purchased January 30th, 2010 and everyone was exceptionally nice during the purchase transaction acting like they were doing you a favor. One part of the set was missing, after we told it was all available, but we were allowed to take the floor model piece to make us whole. Great deal transaction done! Wrong! Upon getting the set home and unpacked it was noticed that the head board to the 6600 London King Bed Frame was damaged beyond any reasonable repair. Store was called and we took the headboard back to exchange it to find the unit to be exchanged with was in worse condition, after they told us over the phone they had looked at it and it was in great shape. Wasted trip! Not only wasted trip they had to "order" us a replacement (remember we bought it 1/30/10 it is now 04/07/2010) and would not allow us to leave the damaged head board there but to take it with us and use it until the "new one" came in. After a heated dispute at this point and not understanding why Juan Gonzales (Store Manager) was being so rude, confrontational, out right lying, and unprofessional that we refused to take the damaged head board with us. They were to contact us when a new one arrived. After placing 5 calls to them over approximately 70 days (2.5 months) they finally told us the head board had arrived, they had inspected it, and it was in great shape and ready to be picked up. Eurica! Not! Upon arriving they only had the floor model (of which was damaged at the time we first reported ours damaged - we checked) and the one we had returned 2.5 months ago. There was no head board at least not any in "great condition"! We were told at that time again to take our original back home and use it until they could provide a replacement. Are you kidding me! Who does business like this today and survives! I will never purchase another thing from them and will do my best to ensure no one else ever does. The way the economy is today I find it hard to believe they cannot find courteous, knowledgable, ethical employees let alone store managers. There were other people in the store with us tonight that were just as unpleased and mistreated as we were. The new potential sales targets were treated well... for now. How does a business such as this survive? We have resolved to contacting TV13 On Your Side to try to make a difference and I hope you will as well! Hit them in their pocket book and I hope the store manager finds it is not his calling as his people skills... well... he doesn't have any!
/american freight is a big rip off, please do not buy there
I really wish that I would have read about American Freight be for I ordered my bed set, I too have become victim to the freight scam, but hind sight being 20/20, see what I need to do to rectify this problem. If anyone is ever going to by from this place, please think again because you will definitely get ripped off I ordered a bed in April and to this date no bed, they told me it would be two weeks, well it a month later and holly crap... still no bed. Will definitely put these people on blast now, how can they unless we complain we and everyone else will continue to get taken for or littl bit of hard earned money that the government allows us to have.

Bill Belford is full of crap ... He signs his emails to the field GTFM = "Get the Fu.ckin Money". He will say or do anything to get your every last penny. Dont trust this scammer or any of his trained salespeople. They have no interest in helping you the customer. You wanna buy furniture from a place like that?
