AOL Unauthorized charges on my debit card

For two (2) separate months now I have had $33.40 taken out of my bank account and have no idea who / what / or where this company is. There is no phone number attached to the withdrawls. I want my money back --- but if I can't get that then I certainly want to be able stop whoever this is from taking more! What do I do?

Again this month I have been charged for this service that I do not have! I contacted my bank and apparently AOL has to cancel the account withdrawl!@#$%^&* what sense does that make. The last I knew, AOL wwas not contributing to my account. Anyway, while I was talking with my bank representative she told me to go on-line and to try and get a phone number to cancel the withdrawls ~~~ and if this didn't work then to go into the bank and fill out a form.
While I was on-line I came across this phone number [protected] and attempted a call. Just as the person that posted the number, I was greeted by a computer and after much frustration I was transferred to a person that wanted my debit card number! I refused and decided to go to my bank and fill out whatever form is necessary to cancel this automatic withdrawl.

I lost money on TWX*AOL withdrawals to a tune of $238 for about a year before I noticed.

Call AOL's fraud number [protected] (I picked option 4), it's a bit easier than navigating their customer service (which just made me want to hit things with chairs). They'll send an affadavit to you. That's where I am in the process.

This article gives me hope I might get some money back: http://www.infoworld.com/article/07/07/11/AOL-to-refund-customers_1.html

AOL Charged for a service I didn't order

I have been charged on 4/15/2008, 4/17/2008 also on 4/18/2008. 25.90 each day. I do not know who TWX* AOL SERVICE is and I never gave them any information at any time for this service. How do I go about getting my money returned to me?

Sincerely:
Homer P. Mason

I allowed a family member to do a one time only transaction with my bank debit card on 7/2009 for 21.00 in which i advised the rep from direct tv whom collected the pmt that this was a ONE TIME ONLY CHARGE and do not store my cc number because i did this as a favor! After reviewing my acct on 10/6/2009 i saw that a debit was taken from account in the amt of 558.60 without so much as a word! I'm PISSED! I contacted direct tv and was hung up on 3 different times then i was connected to a rep that said i would have to speak to the financial billing services department which comes to find out you cant talk to them over the phone only by fax? I faxed them on 10/6/2008 explaining that this is fraud and i dont have an acct and they should return my funds to my acct asap! I called back a different rep told me that they can withdraw funds because i allowed the 1st transaction! I stated to her that I have worked at a credit card company and that isnt true! Remember people>>> You can use your card to do what ever you choose to do but if it isnt a transaction that you actually made call your card company and dispute it on the grounds that if you didnt sign anything and the company which debited the acct doesnt have you listed as a company customer those funds will have to be credited back to your acct.

AOL Fradulent aim callout charge

Received fraudelent charge on my credit card of $10 for AIM Callout Service. I called AOL and they admitted it was fraudulent charge but won't refund until I fill out there "affidavite." They didn't need anything in writing to charge me. I called my credit card company, now my account is on hold until I get new cards with new numbers. I am writing a letter to AOL President Ron Grant at 22000 AOL Way Dulles Va. 20166. I suggest everyone send him a letter. They know it happens they need to do more, before the fact.

Hello Henry,

You need to remember that your credit card was most likely compromised long before it was used on Aim Call Out. As well please keep in mind that todays fraudsters have most if not all of your credit card information including your name, address and CVV(Security Code). So in situations like that it is hard to identify a fraudulant account from a real account until somebody like you calls in to report the bad charge. As well it doesn't hurt to have your credit card company place strict rules on your card to inform you when you have any abnormal spending patterns appear. Before you start spamming companies with letters you might want to take some time to understand what fraudulant users are capable of these days. Here is a link to a video that shows some of what they can do. http://www.cbc.ca/national/blog/video/crimejustice/going_going_gone_1.html

I was sent something from twx*aol. To update my account. I thought they would contiue to take it out of my debit account, because they asked for a routing number. Instead they said they took it out of out of a checking accout and charged me $7.00 because thats what they charge over and abouve my basic $9.95 charge. They corrected thier mistake and would not return the $7.00 overcharge. To me this is fraud and the law should look into this scam.

AOL Terrible scam!

After unsuccessfully trying to cancel my account with AOL customer service I finally decided to cancel my credit card in March on 2007. Since AOL were not able to bill me any longer they began mailing me paper bills which I ignored. Why should I pay for something I don't use or have access to? In July or August on 2007 bills have stopped. In January of 2008 I received a letter from a collection agency that I owe AOL close to $70.00. I sent a reply to collection agency that after 12 years with AOL I have earned the right to cancel my services with them any time I want.

After I canceled my credit card and AOL wasn't able to bill me they shut my account down. The question remains: What are they billing me for? I understand with so many different companies out there that offer free email accounts AOL has lost a lot of subscribers, but that's not my problem. Get with the program and stop ripping people off.

AOL Fraudulently debiting bank account

Twx*aol services has fraudulently withdrawn from my son's banking account three (3) times a month in 2007 and january 2008 the amount of $32.90. He lives on a fixed income and works very hard for it. This is a scam that should definitely be addressed by this company and the law. Where did they get his account number? He does not have a computer! We want all of his money back.

I just discovered a week ago that I have been charged $32.90 for the last year and a half also by TWX*AOL. I went to my bank and was also told there was nothing they could do beyond the last 60 days. They also (sarcastically) asked if I balanced my checkbook. Of course I do but like most busy people I use a debit card and don't always remember to record my charges. I lose receipts. Who compares bank statements from month to month?!? It wasn't until I underwent emergency surgery and lost my primary income followed by the death of a child and was beyond broke that I took notice to this fraudulent activity to my bank account! I am under enough stress! Do you know how badly I needed the over $500.00 they have stolen from me?!? I too want my money back ! My computer prior to December was inside a box for over a year! I didn't even have access to a computer and this company was charging me! They need to be stopped but HOW?!?!?

I just found out that TWX AOL Has been taking out $ 32.80 out of my bank account. I do not use AOL! This has been a faudulant transaction. When I went to the bank I was also told that this amount has been taken out since June of 2007. I was not aware of this! And I am mad a hell. I have never autherized AOL. The bank can only go back 60 Days. I asked who autherized this and how did this company get my account info. All the bank personel could do was say I don't know. I do not know what to do?

Going over my bank account discovered AOL has billed for services I do not receive . I have no desire for the service. I do not even use AOL. If the FTC or FCC can't do anything about these charges, then congress should get involved and shut AOL down completely. If this a scam by someone other than AOL, it would be AOL's best interest to solve this problem before their company gets anymore bad press.

However, minicreditreport has charged my credit card $14.95 on July 03 2009 and probably also on my Aug statement that I have not yet received. I want to get my name cleared from minicreditreport and these unauthorize fees credited to my credit card account.

AOL Change of billing method

Complaint against AOL -Change of billing method

Good Morning:-)

My name is Ethel Smith; my email address with AOL is Email User I have had this account with AOL for the past 10 years. I have made an attempt to find the AOL website that will allow me to change my payment method to prevent the increased payment of 2.00 on to my monthly surcharge. The following hyperlink http://bill.aol.com was include in the email that would all me to change my method of payment however upon entering my account name and password, I get this secondary question about my school. I do not even know what that question means? Am I expected to remember what my school is? This is just my opinion but it seems as if AOL does not want their customer's to make the necessary changes to save a few dollars in the longer run. I sent an email to AOL Plan Info.com with my concern on October 12, 2007 and no response.

If this behavior is considered good customer service, I would be irate and ready to end my service at bad customer service!

Thank you

Ethel Smith

I have been trying for 3 days to view my account. I must have forgotten my access word because it keeps asking me the name of my pet, and I don't have one. I have been a customer for a long time and now I can't even get someone to talk to me. I would also like some information on the different price plans. I would hope I can get some help with my problem. I also filled out the questions about my name, telephone number and the last 4 numbers on my credit card. I keep on answering it any they tell me it's incorrect. I am very frustated at this point. Thank you.

I accepted a plan from AOL where you get the first 10 hours free and then so much thereafter per month until you cancel. Well I only needed for a few weeks until my new high speed internet servcie was installed by a different provider. I do online school so I needed something to get connected for a short time. Anyway after the 10 hours I continued using it for about 2weeks then had it cancelled. I was recently on vacation in Florida and checked my bank account online and found a 100.00 deduction from my account by TWX*AOL Service. I just got off the phone with them about an hour ago and they said once I used my free 10 hours I had continued on using an additional 45 hours worth of dial-up. I can agree with that and still could'nt understand the charges. Well, they told me that they charge $2.65 per hour after the free 10 hours. I was sooooo mad. That makes no sense to me. Most companies charge on per month basis and when I heard this I just told what I thought of them. This is how they get there money by not stating this within the agreement. All they say is you will be charged after the free service but no where do they say on a per hour basis as I was just told. I dont understand how these companies are allowed to do this. Oh and after this discussion, Andrew continued to try and offer me services with them. I was like, Hey I know you are required to say this stuff but you just need to stop, I am NOT interested in any services from you. He continues with "Well I would like to tell you about a free CD we offer for no charge for tutorials through Video Professor". I stopped him again and said, " All I want is my money back, I would be willing to pay for the monthly charge for this service but for a 100.00 I could have had 5 months worth of unlimited dial-up through your service, as you are currently offering." He continues apologizing.I was getting nowhere and finally hung up! I WILL continue with this matter!

I am with aol and have the McAfee suite which I bought and paid for, and its up for renewal 2110, its a two year subscription, on my bank account I spotted, aol have been taking £2-49 per month for tje McAfeee for 15 months, can I get a refund? no. when I cancelled with my bank, the bank teller said it happened to her, but because she did not notice for sometime, she only got 6 months refund, and as she said, she must have spent more on calls trying to get it back.
Aol tell me it not their money it goes to carphone warehouse, Mcafee said i do not have it, only have what I pay for. when my contract is up I am going elsewhere, sick of making calls and having to say pardon, because I cannot understand the person on the line. sick to death of aol all together, now I see i am not the only one they robbing blind.

AOL is Garbage! Hopefully the company does fail in this every changing economy as their product and customer support is the worst. I was billed $47 for un collected billing from last year after they told me my Credit Card would n't process. No kidding! I not longer wanted your service and had asked that it be cancelled, but it never was and AOL attempted to charge my old Credit Card 4 times, Duh how many time do you try to process an invalid CC. When I spoke to AOL recently I couldn't understand the person on the other end as AOL farms out it's work to other countries, I was told that I had never tried to cancel my service, that AOL had excellent records and is never wrong. Bottom line is I paid to kept some non english speaking person from calling my home 3-4 time a night. AOL hope that a class action lawsuit ifs filed against you soon for bad business practices.

AOL Worst customer service I have ever encountered in my life

AOL has the worst customer service I have ever encountered in my life. I have been trying to access my aol email account for 6 months to no avail, simply because I do not have the credit card we made the last payment on anymore. It is IMPOSSIBLE to speak to any kind of human. I never want to use any AOL or Time Warner product again, which is very difficult considering the monopoly they have on the U.S. market.

AOL Unauthorized checking account deductions

It is some sort of online service from AOL that I have never signed up for and I have no account with them to my knowledge. But for months now a deduction of $30.90 has been showing on my checking account statement from twx aol service.

I have been trying off and on for a few months to contact a real person at AOL to have this matter taken care of but only am able to connect with an automated phone system. I never get anywhere with this because I'm asked for my account number and I don't have one. I need help.

Just bought a new computer with 90 day free AOL service and used it for one day until I got on-line with SBC.

Within 2 days, I was charged $25.90 on my credit card, (which i never gave out to AOL) wothout authorization.

My question? How did they get my credit card number? Would I give a card number for a free sevice?

There was an automatic bank withdrawal to this company that I did not authorize. I do not know how they know my banking acct. BUT I want my money reimbursed and this to stop immediately or I will sue this company for theft. I was a member of AOL over a year ago it took me forever to take me off their accts. and stop withdrawals. Now I have to call the bank. This is not right. This is THEFT.

I have been charged $18.99 for a twx*AOL service. I was then charged with a $34.00 fee from the bank beacuse i had insufficient funds. I did not authorize this charge, nor do i want the service. I expect a refund for the amount taken from me and also for the fee.

WE DO NOT HAVE AN ACCOUNT WITH THIS COMPANY. OUR ACCOUNT IS WITH AOL. THIS COMPANY CHARGED OUR CREDIT CARD WITH THESE CHARGES WITHOUT OUR KNOWLEDGE OR CONSENT. THIS IS ILLEGAL AND WE WANT THIS CREDITED BACK TO OUR CREDIT CARD IMMEDIATELY. WE DO NOT WANT TO SEE ANY MORE OF THESE CHARGES ON OUR CREDIT CARD.

On 12/06/2009, a "debit purchase" from TWX AOL SERVICE was charged to my checking account in the amount of $51.80. This is not a withdrawal I authorized or a purchase I made. I have never been a paying customer of AOL.

I am being charged for AOL Voice $9.90 a month, and $12.91 a month for AOL Service, my complaint is I don't use AOL I did at one time but cancelled, I use comcast service now to access the internet, also I was being charged $30.00 a month for AOL Service, after being charged for several months that did finally stop. My cancelling the AOL Service was due to after signing onto AOL, and used it for 2 months, I started having trouble staying on line, after a couple of days, I was told I could no longer use the service because I did not have a credit card, I told AOL that when I first started I was using my checking account, they told me they don't allow checking account use, had to have credit card, but yet the amounts that are being taken out now is through my checking account something is definately wrong, I want Aol to stop taking money out of my checking account for something I don't even use, there are AOL sites I do use on comcast internet that I was told by AOl that is free on the comcast internet service, and now AOL is trying to charge me, after sending me invitation to use the supposedly free sites, for free of no charge. Also when I was using AOL, that's what it was called, the service I am being charged now through my checking account is called TWX AOL Service and TWX AOL Voice, What the Hell is TWX AOL.

Rec'd two charges in the same month from this company that weren't authorized. When I called the number on my statement [protected] I was kept on hold for a long period, the phone was answered, "Credit Reporting" and then they asked me to verify my credit card number, then I was disconnected. This happened twice. It was then I called my credit card company, canceled my current card and was issued a new number.

AOL Charge for free service!

In June of 2006 my son bought me a Dell computer. My son-in-law installed it for me. It came with six months of free AOL. I have my own Internet provider, so I called and cancelled the six month deal. I was told by friends "good luck in cancelling as it can be a headache dealing with AOL."

My February 2007 Visa bill had a charge of $29.50 dated 1-07. I didn't notice it immediately and paid the bill. For some reason the Visa bills for March, April, and May were not received by me. There were a lot of things on my mind at the time and when it was finally noticed, AOL had charged me the $29.50 on 2-07, 3-07, 4-07, and now today 5-07.

My bank was able to have the late charges and finance charges removed and I paid the bill. Upon returning home with the statements the bank received from Visa for me, is when I saw the charges every month. Today, my daughter and the bank employee tried in vain to have AOL reimburse me for the 5 months worth of charges for services that I do not use or want.

I wanted to cancel my Visa card for a new one, but they told the bank employee any charges from AOL would be denied.

Thank you for any help you can give me in this matter.

I notified the post office of not getting my mail.

AOL False charges

We had false charges also. We called [protected]... the fraud department of AOL. It took a while to get the number, but call it and they should be able to help.

Be firm and make sure to get a confirmation number. And be sure to get the person's name and ID number (they will say they don't have one but they do). Get this information before anyone transfers you or puts you on hold.

They should send you some sort of affidavit within 5 days, and once you send it back, you should get a refund.

I wonder if there is any way to pursue a class action against AOL because they obviously don't verify who is opening these accounts. We have never used AOL.

AOL has falsely charged my sons checking account as well. They claim they can't stop taking the money out of his account because I dont have an account number nor will I give them the debit card that it is suppossed to be linked to. I explained to them my son i ssitting on the coast of Libya right now and they said well have him call when he gets back to the states... really? Well now that I have his POA, I can really get this taken care of. I feel sorry for the people I have to deal with. They've taken out over $600 including the bounced check notices as well.

I have not been a member of AOL for several years. I fully agree that trying to seperate from the service was a chore but their indifference to my request to eliminate the homepage is still a problem. The last time I was able to locate a phone number to speak with a tech person I was told that I would have to be a member and be able to log in so that I could get rid of the homepage . No one will help or even knows how to help. The indifference of AOL is astonishing. So, even though my business has changed the outdated and unwanted homepage still remains. AOL is a dinosaur amist good service providers.

AOL Fraudulent charges!

My complaint is against aol.com for causing me to be billed $1408.90 to Verizons Communications for using a number given to me by aol. I read the Complaint from October, 2002 about the person suing aol and what they did to me is similar. I moved to Ridgecrest, CA from Las Vegas. NV in August of last year. My computer was set up in September, 2006 and the dial-up number aol gave me then was the one that Verizons billed me for starting in late November and ending when I received my bill December 11, 2006. We called Verizons and they told us that it was aol that we should call aol. We did that every other day for 3 weeks, as each time we spoke to them we were told to call back in two days. We took pictures of all the stuff we got from aol making our case. We had to take digital pix of our screens showing what they had told us because we were not allowed to copy those pages. The computer just wouldn't let it happen. Of course that was aol not letting us copy info that incriminates them. During the 3 weeks we were told by aol several different things. They said first that we were responsible for all numbers given to us by them. Then we were told that it is aol's responsibility to pay the charges caused by a number given by them. But we never got to talk to that person again! We finally got a letter from aol saying that they decided that it was are fault after all. I have paid Verizons but I hope to get reimbursed by aol. One hundred and fifty of the fourteen hundred and eight was my monthly bill so $1258. was for the dial up number. In the October, 02 Complaint they stated that it is believed there are hundreds of thousands of cases where aol gave out numbers that people, like me, who legitimately thought that it was the right number. I have one page where aol states that in the 'rare case that they gave out a number that is charged long distance' aol will reimburse for the charges. We faxed this info to aol on 3 different occasions but aol insisted that I found the number somewhere else. They could check their records and see we have used the same number since we transferred to this number back in September but they started charging as a long distance number in November. If there is a class action suit against aol I would like to be part of that. I am an aol client for about 10 years.

Beware people!

AOL Charge for unused service

We tried to cancel AOL because we went with AT&T. AOL would not talk to me in which my name was the one on the phone bill but AOL account was in my husbands name. I was told by AOL to call the phone company and cancel payment on my bill so the account would be canceled. I did that and then the charge returned on the bill which was $30.90 for dial up. Called AOL again and they could not cancel when my husband called because he could not remember the resturant he had put in alteast two years ago. When we named everywhere we go out to eat they still said they could not cancel the account because we did not have that information. My husband then talked to AOL one night for atleast two hours with holding and being transfered to one person to another by this time he was so mad he started using really bad language and the guy on the phone then said "Your account is canceled" in which my husband replyed that is what I wanted. Now AOL is trying to charge us for two months of service when we had not been using them. Because of the fact that when the first call that was made to cancel we could not name the resturant. We are not people that eat out a lot so when they said not one of the resturants we named was not the right one we had no idea what to do from there. But again it took my husband to be rude to get the account canceled. I am not going to pay this company for something we did not use and at the price they were charging for just dial up when we had not used them for months. I think it is unfair that they can say we owe this money when the phone company knows we had been using their internet for months. And I think AOL knows this also but just wants free money. After all everyone does like free money, but they should not be able to get it from people who do not have an extra $60.00 somethings dollars laying around to pay for something they did not use. Thank you for this time and hope I can get some help with this to fight a large company.

AOL Unethical billing

I'm not sure you can help but here it goes. I recently received a letter from NCO financial systems inc. The letter states that America Online has forwarded my account to their office. They are are claiming I owe aol $95.60 which dates back to 2003. I accepted a 30 day free trial from aol. I had recently switched to comcast cable for my internet service and apparantly they wanted to woo me back. I used the 30 day trial and forgot about it thinking that would be the last of aol. A little while after the month was over i received a bill from aol asking for money. I called and asked them why? They stated I failed to cancel service. I told them that I never ordered service nor do I need their service since I was already a comcast customer. I was then informed that because I failed to cancel their free offer I would continue to be billed. If you can't help who can. They are threatening to seek a judgement against me. How does this society let these companies get away with this kind of scam? What is my recourse? Who can I turn to? Many thanks.
