Hello,
A few weeks ago I purchased the 2 pack of the KS Chicken Tortilla soup, Best Used By 08/09/17, 59BP18235 2A2 04117 07:11, from the Riverpark Costco in Fresno. When I opened the cardboard package that holds the two containers together, I noticed that the top of one of the containers was puffed and swollen like it was full of gas. It wasn't too swollen but swollen enough that I decided not to eat it. I checked the lot codes on the bottoms of both of the containers and they were the same. Since I really like this product, I decided to take my chances and eat the soup that was in the container that was not swollen. Luckily nothing happened. I decided to keep the swollen container longer in the refrigerator just to see what would happen. I just checked it today and the top of the container was even more swollen and looked like it was going to burst. I took it to the kitchen sink and carefully cut the plastic seal to release the gas. I smelled it but did not notice any odor which surprised me because based on the amount of swelling, I would have thought it would have smelt really bad.
I just thought you should know. I would like a refund for the item please.
Regards,

ive just had the same experience, one of my two containers of Costco Chicken Tortilla soup had a bulging plastic cover when i lifted one corner it hissed, , the soup smelled fine but from what Im seeing online this is not safe to eat so out it goes
This just happened to me as well! The soup has been unopened, in the fridge the whole time since I bought it from Costco but today I noticed the lid on the container was so swollen it looked like it was about to burst. When I opened the seal, there was a weird thick film in the soup even though it smelt fine. I decided to throw it away to be safe, but too bad!
I wonder if there was a contamination. I also bought chicken tortilla soup from Costco, expiration date in May of 2021, and the lid looks for too burst.
My soup was the same, but I didn’t think anything of it until I cooked it, tasted off, not bad not foul, just off. I tossed the rest, would be curious what the cause is.
Same experience with two packs from Camas WA 192nd Costco. Swelling, no smell, threw it out!
Hi Russell - I’m writing a story on this soup. Please send me an e-mail (or message me here) if you’d like to share your experience. My email is ja@alicandri.com. Thank you.
I've had this experience at least 3 separate times with the Kirkland Chicken Tortilla Soup. I now always check before purchasing for any bulges, but at least twice this has happened when I have an Instacart shopper. Has anyone returned for a refund or exchange from Costco? I'm afraid to eat it as I don't want food poisoming.
Same as above. When I purchased it two weeks ago one was bulging a little, not too badly and I decided to eat it. No problem. But today I took the second one out and it is badly bulging. Today is 5/10/21 and use by date is 7/14/21 numbers on bottom 602028 3B3 03161 08:45. It just went straight in the trash.
I have bought this soup plenty of times before and recently bought some and had the runs within 20 minutes of eating. I thought it was something else at first, so tried to eat the soup again and the same issue happened...thinking it was a bad batch this time :(
I have two containers in my refrigerator that don’t expire u til 1/18/2022 and the kids are very puffed up. Not eating that!
I had the same problem. I bought two of the double pack of the Tortilla soup, one pack I put in the freezer, the other in the fridge. The tops were buldging. I kept them in the fridge thinking they would go down. They got bigger. I took the other two out of the freezer, I think they had puffed up prior to freezing as they were big when I took them out. I'm returning all of them. There should be A recall because most people don't write about it and there are plenty of people here who took the time to share their concerns.
Purchase in March 2023 - one Costco tortilla soup bulging, one was not - both are trash
