bad service
DHL might more appropriately named DHB for DON'T HOLD YOUR BREATH in awaiting delivery.
I made an online purchase from a vendor who has a warehouse located about 25 miles from me in NJ. DHL picked up the order that same day, then delivered it to a hub in Allentown PA. Somewhere along the way the merchandise was broken and returned to the vendor. Their online tracking service stated it was delivered to me and signed for.
DHL never satisfactorily answered my queries about what was happening, and the vendor wasn't much help either.
Finally, a replacement shipment was made and, according to DHL's tracking service, was to arrive the next day. Instead it went to a hub in Iowa where the tracking service said it was received, then sent out. Nothing!
Finally I was able to speak to a live person who told me the shipment was damaged. I finally got them straightened out, and they realized it was the FIRST shipment that was damaged.
The second shipment seemed OK, but it had been mistakenly sent to Iowa by truck and was now on a truck back to NJ. It will arrive in about a week.
I don't know if it will or not, but I will heretofore check to see if vendors use DHL. If so, I simply won't order from them.

stolen item from dhl calgary
My parcel shipped to me via DHL from Florence, Ital on May 8, 2008, arrived in the DHL office in Calgary, May 24th, 2008. I was contacted by phone and then by email to complete forms, describe the contents of the parcel and my visa was charged duty on imported goods. I was told that my description matched the description of the items in the hands of the DHL representative and that it should arrive at my door in Saskatchewan with a few days. That was May 24th 2008. It is October, 2008 and my parcel has been classified as lost and my file and claim have been closed. I have been told to file a claim with my insurance or contact the store I purchased the item from in Florence, Italy. The Italian store has filed a claim as the initiator of the shipping with DHL as a courtesy to me however I have all kinds of documentation and emails from DHL evidencing that my shipment was in their hands in Calgary. What I suspect is that someone affiliated with DHL has taken my items for themselves. Yes, I am accusing them of theft. I will continue my pursuit of customer service and will never use DHL again. I will tell everyone I know or meet.
How can a company get away with this. My hope is that DHL would stop dropping the ball on their customers and start internally investigating their employees or installing survellence tapes. Much could be said and done in this regard.
Although this article was posted in 2008, we still have exact the same problem with DHL Italia.
It really doesn't matter if the final destination is Italy or the percel is just going through Italian hub.
Someone in DHL Italy kept stealing the items.
I just dont understand how could this happen so often.

The last experience started, Oct. 7, 2008. Driver stated that he couldn’t find the address. I live on one of two main roads in the area, mine being the only 4 lane highway. UPS, Fed X and USPS have no problem finding me. DHL had a problem three times. On Oct 9th I called and complained and asked customer service to notify the driver to call me when he gets in the area. I assume he got annoyed by my complaint because my VERY IMPORTANT contract suddenly became lost.. I advise everyone never to use DHL. Just look at this website and all the complaints against DHL

DHL SUCKS... I live off of a main 4 lane hwy. in Louisiana. There are only two roads that go through this area and the other one is a two lane. Three times DHL couldn't find my house. The problem is, most of their deliveries are 17 miles south of my address in Port Fourchon. Port fourchon is the busiest port in the united states. When the inept irresponsible private contractors are returning from Port Fourchon to deliver on the east side of the highway where I am located. the addresses are not real close. The speed limit is 65. They fly by my house and when the discover that they passed a delivery point, Oh well. These irresponsible drivers could care less about the delivery. This has happened three times in the past year. When ever someone tells me that they are going to overnight a package I advise them never to use, DHL. By the way, this last time I was expecting a very important contract. When the package didn't arrive on time I called and complained. fraud and cheating
The delivery person never bothered to come and marked my package undeliverable. I know he didn't come because I was at home all day waiting. I didn't shower and waited doing h/w. If I had missed it he would have left a note and brought it to our rental office because they sign for packages. The SOB just never came! I can't believe I paid for overnight service on a document that will cause me to lose my job and they just simply didn't come. Don't SHIP DHL or you will not receive your package.

Wow, so glad I googled on this. I had the same issue, also product from iHerb which I received over a week before DHL's "invoice". When I rang the lady kerfuffled around saying there should be appropriate paperwork attached - I said there is no indication of any quarantine process and asked for the AQIS number (thanks for that tip). She said she would "waiver" it this time. What dodgy sods!
I have recently received the same charge (also iHerb purchase). I will phone them about it today.
I have received this in the past and phoned them about it. The person I spoke immediately "canceled" the fee when I challenged it. This just proves that it is dodgy. They are just trying their luck and I am sure many people pay without questoning.
I did check with Australian customs and they said that NO fee is charged.
Do not pay.
And if you have the time/inclination you cold take it to the consumer protection organisation.
DHL have sent me an invoice also for a supposed Quarantine Processing Fee some days after receiving a package from iHerb. The problem, I think, in Law (and I have done contract law) is that the contract has been concluded on the delivery of the goods. Therefore they cannot request another charge after fulfilment of the contract. They are simply acting illegally and in my opinion there is no way they would try to sue anyone for not paying because they would know that they must lose. It looks to me like it is all bluff by a very unscrupulous company. A complaint could be lodged with Fair Trading. If you do that, they cannot proceed with their claim until it is resolved by Fair Trading and DHL will just drop it because they know they cannot win.

I've had the same nonsense 'processing fee' of $47.30 charged (via invoice) twice now. In both cases, the products were named supplements *from iherb (nothing suspect). The boxes had been opened but no bottles checked. This is an exclusive DHL fee (nothing to do with customs/quarantine) (DHL will claim otherwise). Call them up and ask for an official invoice including an AQIS (quarantine entry number). If they can't provide it too you (and they won't), they have no legal right to charge you the fee and should therefore waive the invoice. This whole process is nothing but a scam for unsuspecting importers. Please let all of you're friends and colleagues know so they can avoid DHL like the plague.
DHL charged me for a "quarantine processing fee" of $47.30. I bought $70 worth products off iherb & paid $20 shipping/handling fee for it to be sent to Australia. I'm going to call AQIS and ask whether they really did charge DHL this fee. I've read similar complaints online and definitely agree, DHL is very untrustworthy.
mis deliveries
Never use DHL for deliveries! I ordered some items from a catalog, first they delivered it to Shorefront drive. I had to re-order, and I just checked on line and they delivered it to Shoreline Drive. (My address is Shoreside drive and is correct on everything.) I just called them, the drivers don't have cell phones, just radios, so I have to wait for dispatchers to contact them to go pick it up. (And my first experience with DHL, they were supposed to ship something overnight and it took a week to get here!) They are without a doubt the worst delivery service I've ever dealt with - 3 out of 3 screw ups! Don't know how they stay in business.
no reason for holding my package
DHL picked up my package and delivered on sept 2, after 2weeks later, DHL neither deliver my package nor return to me without any acceptible reason.
During the 2 week time period, I called customer service for 5 times, they said we made mistake, we will re-delivered and it should be received soon. now DHL hold my package because I am angry to them and I am pursue the legical assistance to sue them.
How BAD service it is, how frustrated we are. I just read numerious complaints about DHL service problem, why there is no organization to investigate DHL 's problem? why DHL can still operate with such disorder management? DHL does not delay our package, DHL wastes our time and money.
never delivered
For the second time I have not received a package from DHL. I await my package, check my DHL tracking number and find out, both times, that my package is listed as delivered (left by my door). Needless to say, i never got any package. Nothing was left by my door. I called DHL and they said they did not have my apartment number listed but that the package was delivered to my apartment. That makes no sense. How would they know what apartment to deliver to if the, as they claim, had no apartment number? I will not ever use DHL again and will never do business with any company that uses them either.
driving eradically and speeding
Driver was in the parking lot for about 20 minutes, maybe more. But was agitated and banging things around and yelling at someone. I couldn't see that far because this happened at about 8:00pm Tuesday night. After the yelling and loud noise it was quite for about 5-10 minutes. Then The DHL truck Burned and squeaked its tires as it sped out of the parking...

My supplier sent me a couple of boxes from Hong Kong via DHL, but to my surprise the tracking showed the package as delivered. The signature and name of recipient does not match name package was addressed to. I contacted customer service informing them the goods were not delivered to me, it turns out the driver had taken them to wrong address. I begged them to please return to the address and recover same day but they refused, of course come next day, the recipient is not opening his door, and DHL have been totally untruthful. DHL - driver helps lose.

I opened a DHL account this year. A sales rep called to welcome me aboard. I shipped many items with them with no problems. I shipped a car seat in April 2008. I have shipped two or three before that. The DHL calculator showed about $64.00, with is about average for a box of 48 lbs. So I sent the invoice to the buyer (ebay sale) and then made a pick-up appointment, all online. I printed the label on my printer and the receipt shows a rate of $59.25. I shipped this May 1st or 2nd.
Then on April 11 I received the bill from DHL for $238.50! I called and the sales lady told me that the package was re-weighed at 239 lbs! They told me that my label receipt ws not proof. SO I filed a claim and it ws ignored. I have called them to no avail. I asked a second or third rep why they didn't notify me of the changed shipping price before shipping and the answer was' We don't have the time to call every customer'. Oh yeah? Well you sure have the time to steal from me !
I am filing another claim with my bank because this company refuses to acknowledge that they are being dishonest. And I am unable to close the account! There should be a law against what this company can do. I want my account closed with DHL and I never will do business with them again!

left expensive electronics outside in weather
Dell uses DHL shipping company to send electronics when purchased online. I purchased a very expensive piece of electronics and it was shipped by DHL out of California. I used the ability to track shipment online and saw they would attempt delivery on the 13th which is the day I was out of state on business. When I inquired, I was told Dell requires signatures on their electronics and they would attempt delivery and when I wasn't there, they would leave directions on my door how to pick up my delivery in person at their closest location. Dell also indicated signature required on my order. Just to make sure, I left a HUGE note on my door with a magnet clip telling the delivery person not to leave a package but to leave directions how I could pick it up next day (Friday) at their nearest location. when I returned home very late at night the 13th, there was the package, out in the weather, in plain sight on my doorstep. the note was still on my door, also in plain sight. when I complained to DHL, they sent back a canned email note "sorry we didn't meet your expectations". Dell has not responded. I won't buy from Dell again if they continue to use this shipper. I do not live in an area where electronics or other expensive items should be left in plain sight. I was so very lucky it wasn't stolen or badly damaged by weather. DHL is not a good shipping experience.
UPDATE: Dell responded and gave me a 15.00 credit for my inconvenience and were very responsive in their email reply. GREAT SERVICE from Dell. I just hope they don't use DHL in the future.

delivered into wrong country - 2 times
On 7th August I sent keys to a real estate agency that will rent my appartment in Turkey.As there are some customers who would like to see it, time was critical for me and for agency also...Of course I have choosen DHL trusting their express delivery service!Expecting latest on 8th August afternoon keys would be on hands of my agency and even maybe rent my appartment.On 11st of August, Monday, agency called me saying he couldnt received the keys yet!I was trusting DHL really so much that I even didnt need to check their tracker system during this 4 day considering keys should have been arrived into correct adress.When I looked into their website for the status, there was a nice! suprise waiting for me...My appartment keys was delivered into DHL office in Erbil/ Iraq instead of agency in Istanbul/Turkey...Is that an acceptable mistake? I said okey, everybody can make error..I called DHL France Customer Service and I tried 5 days to redirect my keys into correct country!After hours spent on phone and explaining into each call agent my problem finally Friday they redirected my envelope to Turkey...But suprises never end with DHL..Today! When I looked into their tracker system, my keys were again arrived into Iraq but this time into Bagdat after going to UK and Germany..When all these things were happening, my real estate agent called me and said persons who would like to see my appartment saw another one and not potential customers for my appartment anymore..And some others also...I am still calm, I am waiting and wondering the capability of DHL to sent my keys into correct adress...As of today it has been already 10 days that I sent my envelope..After my 5 days try to send it back to correct adress, today again I talked to DHL customer service agent and get a promise to deliver it on Monday!...Should I belive it? Yea these guys are hopeless. I paid top rate for 2-6 day international courier. My item was supposed to go to ohio. Wen looking a tracking it went to LA the Wilmington USA, then ALASKA! THEN HONG KONG!

worker being rude
i was walking down the street of my town, mount angel. a very small town. and i was wearing a halter dress, hair down, and flip flops. a DHL guy drove by me multiple times. the last time he whistled at me, and said "hey babe. come on in" i was very upset. he was probably in his early 20's... cute guy, but i would not like him talking to me like that, and trying to coax me into his truck, "to go for a ride"
If you walked into a nighclub samely dressed and a young man made the same "overtures" to you, would you feel offended? I don't think you would. I think you would feel it was simply a part of the ancient code of "flirtation". Unfortunately, I am not sure that people in the enlightened 21st century even know what innocent flirtation is any more. Folks want to cry "sexual harrassment" at every turn (not just women but men too!) and our wonderful judicial system has taken the fun out of being a human being. There IS true sexual harrassment going on in the world, I am well aware of that and heartily condemn it; but in your case, I fail to see it happening. I'm sorry you felt offended, but even more sorry that you (and you sound very young and righteously indignant LOL) cannot see some of the humor in this. Perhaps it is myself, a woman who came of age back in the Swinging 70s, who is mistaken here. If so, I apologize. Good luck with the rest of your life!

DHL is the WORST! The only way they stay in business is because they are the least expensive option for delivery. The only problem is that it's a crap-shoot as to whether or not your items will be delivered on time. The only reason I use DHL is because my company makes us use them. I would say 1 out of every 5 packages sent out doesn't arrive when it's supposed to. Today it happened to be a personal delivery sent that was my sister's birthday present. I paid for 10:30 am overnight delivery. Not there. I tracked online, called and the automated system said it was incorrectly scanned to the wrong facility, then when I got a live person on the line, she says it was due to "weather." See...there's DHL's scam: you see the misleading ads about it getting there on time or it's free. The catch is, you have to choose 10:30 am overnight delivery to qualify for that, and if you do, it will always be "the weather" that causes your package to be late, not that it was "incorrectly scanned" and you will wind up PAYING FOR OVERNIGHT when it gets delivered on MONDAY when it was due to be delivered on FRIDAY! NEVER AGAIN DHL...I know when I want something delivered that really has to get where it's going by the time I PAID FOR - USE FEDEX!
extremely low quality service
The DHL Express Deliver lost our package containing valuable original documents and does not care of finding it. The worse think is they just offered to resent the package for free, after that silence. Not Funny anymore!
The recipient does not receive package in time, the documents are lost - originals are lost!, the package just gone. They charge us high and does not fullfit what they promise, plus create loads of problems.

DHL IS THEFT! I shipped my Gibson Guitar via DHL on 12-04-2007. Their driver came to pick it up but the weird thing was he took my guitar and left nothing for me to track and left. I called their costumer service to find out where is the guitar. GUESS WHAT, THE DRIVER REPORTED that he DID NOT PICK UP ANYTHING! could you believe that!?
Then I called everyday to their CS service, and their representative always says: Oh, there will be somebody call you back in an hour..." BUT NO ONE REALLY CALLED ME BACK!
The most ridiculous part is everytime they would tell me without the "TRACKING NUMBER", they could not do anything about it. WTF, the driver just did NOT give me one!

they told me without the TRACKING NUMBER, they will just throw away my claim form.

hit and run
On 07/21/2008 at 11:58 AM DHL came to my home to pick up a package. My father and I were in the garage working when they pulled down our driveway.I was watching the whole time and I saw them backing out of the driveway and hit the front end of my trans-am, my father heard this came to the door where I was and we both saw the driver drive away like nothing happened. We couldn't believe it. Anyway I ran up to the top of the driveway into the street yelling and waving my arms behind this van trying to stop them.
That didn't work so I ran to my truck in order to track this driver down. I looked everywhere but could not find them. I believe they knew they hit the car and hauled butt out of there. So I went home called DHL and they said they would call me back. I waited and waited for them to call back but they didn't. So I called them and they gave me the number of the supervisor Mr Antonio Altamirano Jr. I called him and he said send me pictures and details so i did. Then I called the sheriffs dept and they told me contact my insurance and DHL to solve the problem. I told them the guy hit and ran.They said he probably didn't know he did it and it happens all the time. This was also hard for me to believe.
My insurance told me to talk to DHL. A few days pass and I contact DHL because they never called me back. They give me their insurance company; Allied Ins Agent Hardeep Sangha # [protected] Claim # 84P51395. Meanwhile I get an estimate. $1909.00 WOW. The send a guy and he takes photo's and tells me there was no damage to the vans bumper. Of course not because he had a black steel bumper and I have a black rubber bumper on my 74 trans-am with fiberglass around the lights which got smashed.
I went down to the Highway patrol and did a counter report for a hit and run. They also told me theirs not much they can do.What the heck man. Anyway I called Allied Ins today and the lady said if the driver says he didn't do it then they will be on the drivers side because no damage to the vans bumper (proof) and to bad for me basically.
So now I'm stuck with a $1909.00 repair bill because some DHL driver got away with hitting my car.
The package that DHL picked up that day arrived at my customers home Smashed and damaged. Go Figure.
If you want to recover damages from anyone in a hit and run situation with that small a dollar figure, you will have to sue in small claims court.
They will fail to show up to the trial, and you will win by default. Then you send the judgement to collections.
You will eventually get money back

rip off company, no one should have to put up with the crap this company does to there employees, just use you then dump you, no vacation, no breaks, no lunch, , with there crazy cut backs in pay because they claim theres not enough freight coming in, but never look at the 3 over paid lazy ### that sit in the office playing video games and watching tv and eating snacks and pizza all day, poorly groomed and very unprofessional in every way.. no matter what happens its always the drivers fault, not the fault of the company, , oh the clowns in the office, hope no one has to work for a bunch of cork heads that manage DHL (Duluth Mn. )

horrible customer service
I was expecting a missing SIM card from my cell phone company. After not receiving it for more than a week on July 10 I called the cell phone company and they provided me with a tracking number and said that DHL delivered it on July 7th. I contacted DHL and they said they would have someone come out that day and confirm "where they had left the package". No one showed up so I called the next day, they said their driver was in Cape Coral and it was too far for her to travel to my house. (Does DHL only have one person working there?) They assured me that someone would be out here the next day. Again, no one showed up... now it is the weekend so when I called they assured me once again that someone would be out on first thing on Monday... and again... no one came. I called them again and the said the driver stated that the package was left at a white house (funny how her memory returned) I then assured THEM that my house was no where near white, so now they can go canvas the neighborhood and see where they left the package. I told them I assumed it was my neighbor's white house, but he is a registered sex offender and I AM NOT GOING OVER THERE TO RETRIEVE IT! They again assured me that they would send someone out... and surprisingly they did not. I finally contacted my cell phone company again and explained to them what happened. They were kind enough to send me a second replacement SIM via overnight DHL and told me that I would have it by noon the next day... and yet in another surprising twist noon came and went and it hadn't arrived. I called DHL and was told it was on the truck and scheduled for delivery that day. I had to go out and was told that I would get a confirmation phone call when it was delivered. I never received that call. At 5 o'clock it still hadn't come and my husband went out when I came home at 7 it was on my front door step... good thing it wasn't time sensitive material! I would never use DHL by choice. Still debating whether I should fight the still missing package based on the principal of the matter...
i have lost 7 items in the last 6 months, dhl drivers are cheating on people they do not left card then they say no access, they never come to my house, and when i was trying to make a complaint to dhl enfield an old man verbally abused me and says to me [censor] off
Horrible delivery service again----------------------
A document (weighing 0.30 gms) was despatched on 8 September under AW Bill # [protected], which till 16 of September never reached Abu Dhabi and still no chance that it will reach today / tomorrow---see the FOLLOWING delivery TIME LINE and you will know what a nightmare it is to receive one document---Any other courier comapny would have delivered the same in 72 hours maximum---thats why DHL is losing its credibility -----
DHL please wake up and do some serious deliberations in achieving excellence awards from the customer like me ---

I have sent a crate from Beijing to Berlin 3 weeks ago. I called DHL in China to make sure that they would deliver the crate to my office that is the back house second floor (and not only to the front door of the building) since I had a car accident and cannot carry anything. I also called DHL Berlin to ask the same information and both confirmed that I would receive the package directly at my office on the second floor.
They called to say that the package would arrive between 9 am and 12 am on Friday and again I made sure that it was going to be brought up since the only person in the office on that day was a small woman. I was told yes, it will be brought up.
The DHL man came and said he could not bring the crate up since it is too heavy and that she would have to find a solution herself. He left the crate outside in the back house. I called DHL and they said someone was going to come back and bring it up. At 12 the first woman had to leave so I paid someone else to come and wait. Every 2h I would call them to ask when they are coming. I was always told they would come but it might not be right away. I even said that two men should come since it real heavy but I was then told that if the driver managed to bring it to the front door alone that he will manage to bring it up 2 floors alone.
At 18 h the other woman had to go so I had to come in the office and wait. I called DHL to say I have dinner plans if the driver can arrive soon and I was told to wait and someone would come soon.
At 20h I called again and a very rude man said no one will come because the working day for the drivers ended at 18h and I have to find a solution myself.
To make an even longer story short I had to wait outside (at night) until I finally found 2 guys big enough to pay to bring the crate up. (I waited long since it was raining hard and bringing two strangers to my back office when I am alone is not smart). I was done with the hole thing it was 23h.
Since then I have called DHL 14 times and I always get the same answer someone will call you back today or tomorrow. It has now been 2 weeks. I also wrote 4 emails and not one single email reply. I guess they are waiting until I forget about it. Plus it cost money to complain by DHL. I have just calculated my Skype cost calling DHL and I am now at 30 euros. Here is another great way for them to make money.
Today is the first time in my life that I put something up in a forum as a complaint.
I am so tired of being ignored and I will not stop until I get fully reimbursed.

The tracking should clearly say it was returned to sender and signed for by an employee at the original company. What you are describing is somebody's misinterpretation of what happened. If its damaged in transit, then its returned to sender. That should answer your question. If you want to know "exactly" who is responsible and "exactly" how it was damaged in transit, unfortunately, nobody will be able to answer that.

We don't have a hub in Iowa. Our main sort facility is in Wilmington Ohio. I think you are referring to that.

If you read the 1st tracking # (the damaged/return to sender), then the rep will tell you what happened - which you already know. Each time the company ships to you they will use a new tracking #. Read the 2nd tracking # to find out the status of the new shipment.
Most of us in customer service are competent and will truthfully answer your questions. If the customer is all freaked out and not giving us accurate info, then we can hardly assist them. You say you straightened out the customer service rep? If you were talking to a stupid rep - good for you! If you were talking to me - I would have straightened you out.
Asking for a supervisor will get you the same information from a different person.
