dish network phone rep/service
I contacted dish network on 3/16/09 to inquire about their packages and pricing. The rep who answered my call was possibly named stella. She was very difficult to understand and hard to hear due to all the background noise (Sounded like children laughing and playing) and I frequently had to ask her to repeat herself during our very long conversation. I very clearly told her from the beginning of the conversation that I was not ordering dish network only inquiring about prices. She told me that I would need to give her my social security number and a credit card number. I told her there was no reason for her to need a social security number or credit card as I was not ordering just inquiring about pricing. After repeatedly insisting that I would have to give her this information so she could verify if I was even eligible for dish network service she finally did give me base prices. Then I asked if I was eligible for any of the special pricing and promotions that were advertised on dish network's web site. She told that I possibly was eligible for special pricing and promotions but that I would have to give her my social security number and a credit card number for her to verify my eligibility. I again argued that I did not want to give her this information and that there was no reason for her to need it since I was only inquiring not ordering. She insisted that without my social security number and a credit card that she could not verify my eligibility for dish network service let alone tell me what special pricing and promotions were available to me. Like a fool, I finally gave her my social security number and credit card and she did tell me that I was eligible for dish network service and gave me the prices including the "return customer pricing and promotional pricing". The prices appeared to be reasonable but I told her I was not ready to order as I wanted to discuss the prices etc with my husband before I made the decision to order or not. She told me she understood but then the next thing I know she's trying to schedule the installation for the next day! I again told her I was not ordering and that it would probably be sometime in april before I made a decision. She said that was fine but did give me a "reservation number" that she said I would need if I did decide to order. She also had me set-up a password and gave me an 800 number [protected]) to call if I decided to order the service. I expressed concerns to her that did not like having to give her all this information just to get prices and that I was concerned that I would be billed on my credit card for services that I had not ordered. She assured me that this would not happen and that nothing would be done unless I called to actually place an order. We ended our conversation.
The next afternoon, 3/17/09, I get a phone call from dish network telling me that they had been here in the morning to do the installation and no one answered the door to which I responded that I did not order the service and had not scheduled any installation. I was told that I had ordered it and there was some kind of misunderstanding. Dish network came to my home to do an installation that I did not schedule for services that I did not order. On 3/16/09, their phone rep badgered me into giving her my social security number and credit card. Now i'm concerned that I will be billed for an installation and services that I did not order not to mention that I was stupid enough to give the phone rep my social security number and credit card. For all I know I have set my self up for identity theft!

ignorant representatives, overcharging and scamming my account

Re: Defective Box 625 and unprofessional representatives and vulgarity, overcharging my account
These problems with Dish network are three fold: Phone: [protected]
1. I have been contacting you since August of 2008 for overcharging my account,
2. Defective box 625 and
3. Incomprehensible and abusive representatives.
I don't owe you any monies ($150, $277 or $430 according to your statement) except for March 2009 which should be $68.00...You have been overcharging me since December 2008 and I would like an executive representative to contact me at [protected] concerning this matter. I have been on hold for nearly two hours going back and forth trying to speak to an educated and professional representative, but none exists.
It appears you have people that are running a scam on customers and I have contacted the FCC to report this problem. I have asked numerous of times for this ongoing problem (statement charges) to be straightening out and so far NOTHING has been done. I mailed your non-working box to you on 3/9/09 thru UPS with a tracking number of “1Z 72V [protected]” with a receipt. I suggest you confirm that number and remove any and all charges on my account including the above charges I do not owe.
Right now I am having problems with:
1. Recordings, which will not allow me to record two programs at the same time but yet YOU are charging me for "dual" recordings.
2. The recordings initiate itself (ever since the smart card was allocated), without my scheduling any programs.
3. The recordings are initiated by me (speaking in the past tense) it will not "stop recording" when pre-scheduled to STOP, or manually imposed to STOP
4. I called this morning and argued with "Charlotte Backer" in executive office, she's a total waste of good time.
She is so ignorantly, uneducated due to the fact that while I was on hold she answers the telephone with: "WHO IS THIS?" I was appalled by the way she announced herself representing your company, instead of presenting herself professionally. She and I argued but I requested that I speak with her superior and I left a message for him. "We will see if he returns my call."
I also spoke with a representative name Darrel who refused to identify himself with his ID number or last name and also a character name Dave ID: B6B is what he claims his ID was. It appears this character "Dave" sound 'highly intoxicated or drugged' on the telephone. He was screaming on the telephone and used profanity to me as well. Your company is a total mess and some of those employees should be 'fired' due to the fact they are not there to assist the customer or remedy any problems. Your representatives are there to ARGUE and use vulgarity.
I also spoke with a rep. from India in the so-called technology support dept. because I had trouble recording two programs. I explained the box would only allow me to record one program not two although I am being charged according to my statement, for 'DVR' recordings instead of 'basic programming. The supervisor in India stated, I could only watch one program when recording and I could not switch back and forth if I'm recording two programs. That is an absolute lie because since I had this "god forsaken service (dish network)" I was able to switch back and forth and watch either or recordings.
Lastly, These are the types of people you hire for your company, what a 'damn' shame that you are forced to hire the 'lowest' and dig at the bottom of the barrel for the dumbest.

mj e,
It would be my pleasure to help you get that straightened out as I can see how that can be rather aggravating. Since your post is from a couple of weeks ago, have the boxes arrived yet? Let me know and send me your account number as a private message so I can look over your account regarding your concern with any charged fees.
Thank you and I hope to hear from you soon!
I have been trying to contact dish network about them sending boxes for the return of receivers and remotes. I was told i would be receiving the boxes in 7-10 days from my call on March 28, 2012. As of April 21, 2012 I have not received the boxes. I was able to contact an agent on April 12, 2012 and she assured me not to worry the boxes will be delivered the following week and guess what. No boxes. I want to make sure that there are no fees attached with the delay of getting your equipment back to you because I have not received the return boxes from you.
i 100% agree, they are rude and disrespectful, and lie and scam you into contracts where you have to take what they throw at you, or take the chance of messing up your credit. i have only had them for 5 months, and i wish i never would have done it!
false advertisement lies, etc.
I signed up for Dish and was promised a free I Pod and $100 gas voucher it cost me $30 to sign up. I never received the voucher or the I pod and have been lied to numerous times by Dish and their affiliate's. Then I began being charged a higher monthly rate then I agreed too. I sent in a dispute and didn't pay the additional charge Dish began taking away my channels and then charged my credit card $600 and $200 charges. Needless to say it has been a nightmare. I had to pay a $25 re connect fee and pay for 2 months with no TV to get the fees taken off my credit card. After I paid the fees I called to have the charges removed from my Discover card and the guy at Dish said they would be refunded in 2 to 3 days Well it took 3 months to get the 690 back the other money I haven't seen. I hate Dish I haven't been lied to and cheated to so much since me and my old lady broke up! In short it has cost me hundreds of dollars to for a FREE GIFT that I never have or will receive.
Don't get DISH NETWORK THEY'RE A SCAM. Please write your Senator, BBB, BArack Obama, Congress etc. We need to unite against these companies that scam good customers.

I was completely lied to by Dish Network Sales, while requesting cable, internet and phone services. I was told we were going to have unlimited local and long distance minutes on our land line. We then received our first bill with charges for long distance. When i called to complain about this the agent told me they "do not have an unlimited plan at all, so there is nothing we can do". I am not in the process of trying to get the charges removed. During this time, I have been told by two installation techs, a customer service agent, and a customer service manager that they have been having a bad time with their sales department "telling you whatever you want to hear, to get you to sign up (which i never signed ANYTHING), and then once you get your first bill, it's too late to cancel." I think my next step will be to record a call to sales with the promises of unlimited minutes, and post it all over youtube and any other place i can get it heard. How can they outright lie to you, never give you a contract to review what you are getting into, and out right lie to you? You may pay more with Direct TV, but we checked them out prior, and atleast they are upfront with you about the services they provide.
jbiagioli,
I've gone over your post and can understand your frustration from that! If you could please send your account number to me in a private message, it would be my pleasure to take a look at it and see what I can do to get this resolved for you. I hope to hear from you soon and appreciate your efforts!

CassieT47,
I saw your post and found it interesting! Allow me to assist. Could you please private message your account number to me so I can take a look at everything and see what's going on? That way, I'll be able to gather all information to gain the best understanding of what happened. Thank you very much for your efforts and I'll look forward to speaking with you!
I was a costumer of Dish Network for 9+ years. (1993 till 2001) I dropped Dish Network after being told to upgrade I had to buy the receiver and then lease it. I dropped service and went to Direct TV. In 2009 I relocated my dwelling. (same address) Dual TV receiver. I constantly had trouble with the program guide. I would have to download it every time I turned it on. I also was told I'd have to pay for a service contract for 15 months. In May of 20012 I niticed this charge was still being put on my bill. I called and was told I had to discontinue it. When I tried to get my money back for the year of the service contract. I was told I couldn't get it back. In June 2012 I cancelled service. They sent me a box to put the equipment in and returned it. I paid what I thought was the last bill in July. Two months later I receive a bill for $18. I called because I was told I had paid off the account. They said it was for the box to return the receiver.I will nit pay this amount and will make sure it is not removed from my credit card it debit.
I have never, in my life, come across such a low life pack of deceptive, evil liars. It’s as if they just have to lie with each breath. Not even a godless politician lies as foul and as much as the trash at Dish Network. That’s why I changed my credit card number and do paperless billing with these lying terrorists. Why would anyone trust such a load of godless liars as these with your credit card number? You might as well give your number to, Satin or any other type of politician. And NEVER, EVER call these lying trash ### because with each call, you automatically set an upgrade in motion that you play hell getting off.
These ### are the lowest form of puke on the earth. Even lower than politicians and Bill Collecting Nazis.
DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH D I S H N E T W O R K!
goalie,
Thank you for choosing our service; we very much appreciate you giving us a try! Blackouts occur when certain networks haven't obtained broadcast rights to certain games. They happen most often with national networks, like MLB Network, and Pay-Per-View packages because they lose broadcast rights in the area where a team is located to those local networks. The local networks have privileges over the national ones.
What area do you live in and what programming packages do you have on your account? I would encourage you to send me your account number in a private message so I can take a look at that and give you some information. I'll enjoy the opportunity to further assist you!
I was lied to by DISH Network, When we called we were assured that we would receive ALL Angels games. After the installation and a 2 year contract, we now know the home games are blacked Out! LIES.Now I'm stuck with this POS!
Dish Network "authorized reseller" told me that my price would be 42.99 a month for the first year, then 57.99 a month for the 2nd year. Then they told me that I would have "no other service charges" at all. Not only did Dish Network increase my charges for the first month, they also "double charged" me on month. Then, they increased my the first month of the 2nd year to $73.00 dollars, instead of the $57.99 like the Dish Network "authorized reseller" said in the beginning of the contract. I also was charge for hardware services that were suppose to be "free". I tried going to the BBB and the only thing that they did, is had a Dish Network Rep call me. The Dish Network Rep said that they are "not responsible" for their Dish Network "authorized reseller" ! Can you believe that? Dish Network contracts these companies in regards to selling their service. The Dish Network Rep told me over the phone whatever price package that the Dish Network "authorized reseller" sells to a new customer, that does not matter because Dish Network can change the "agreed upon" price just like that. Nice huh? So if you agree to pay for example $40.00 a month, dish network can jack that price up to $80 dollars, even if it is just the first month of service! Can you say bait & switch, deceptive sales tactics? Dish Network also hides behind a contact that you sign when the dish and equipment gets installed, however the service tech makes the illusion that this is just for "work" that he had completed. Again, deceptive sales tactics. Now here is another kicker.. Dish Network was liable back in 2003, for this sort of deceptive sales tactics, but the BBB will still not back me up on this. Check out the attorney general office web site in Colorado in regards to this: http://www.coloradoattorneygeneral.gov/departments/consumer_protection/consumer_protection_cases/dish_network
If you got taken like I did by dish network, please write or call to the Colorado Attorney General's office and demand another class action reimbursement like they did before. Also please keep telling everyone you know on what a lying and dis-honorable company they really are. Thank You.
I have been lied to from the very start from Dish TV. I did not receive the 3 months free of HBO and I was chargesd by Dish to my credit card without my knowledge. I have never received the 24.99 a month billing since I have been a subscriber. If anything goes wrong with the shoddy equipment they put in your home they will charge you outragious prices to fix it. This has been a scam from day one!
price increase to existing customers who have contract
Dish Network increased prices for 2009.They have right for this no comments. But they should not increase for their existing customers who have 24 month commitment with old prices.ie Effective date of price inrease should be after 24 month contract period for the existing customers. For the new customers they have 6 month promotional price .When I called customer service no proper answer and say I have to pay cancellation charges if I wish to cancel their service as there is a 24 month contract.ie They try to impose military dictatorship rule.Does any one knows governing body like State Public Utility commision.Unfortunately PA PUC 9http://www.puc.state.pa.us/) say they donot handle Satellite & Cable TV complaints.I feel there will be lots of customers who took in the last 12 months will have same problems. Can all such victims can file class of action suit against DISH Network bad business practises.

cardboard,
I'd like to take a look at your account information as I've reviewed your post. Please private message me your account number and four-digit PIN so I can pull it up. Thanks!
I'm really at a budget the last 5 years, especially the 2013 was the worst for me income-wise ever. Yet early 2013 Dish raised my family package rate from $20 to $26 roughly and now I just got a charge (without advance notice!) on my card for $31.88! That's almost $32 for limited amount of channels, without movie channels and only few months ago they added local channels for me, but charging me $6 more for that. Every dollar counts today and I've already quit important things like home insurance, street pole light and now I will quit Dish Network, which will save me $26 or $32 per month and that is fine, as I don;t watch TV much, mostly internet. Even on my TV I watch a lot of Youtube, movies etc. And I less and less spend time behind PC and TV as the commercials are on the increase and I'm tired of waiting through the commercials by muting them. Bye-bye Dish! Your dish on my house's roof will remain for a while I guess and I will not sign up with anyone else. Consumer Revolution! Minimize spending, except food, clothing and hobbies! This fight is also revenge for spraying us with chemtrails and committing the horrendous Inside Job of 9/11.
12332,
Thank you very much for your support; we appreciate it!
The price increase is just a matter of tv providers raising the price by roughly 10% each year. Dish Network hasn't had a price increase since febuary 2011, while DirecTV and all other providers have continued to go up each year. You need to understand that prices are going to go as their prices go up. Definately understand having to pay more for something you have had and are still in your two year commitment with nothing else. Keep in mind though dish provides the free previews and things like that. I myself am excited about the blockbuster movie mania thru febuary and march.
I came across your posts, Murthy, DISH=FOOD=TOEACT YOUR MONEY, mercerlab, Lasp1221, spindermans, helpless generation, sabhi, Pissed Off Cougar, PConley, Fight dish, and Kurt Bu! I understand your concerns and how it can become aggravating to not have them addressed after awhile. Please let me know if you've gotten a chance to speak to someone about these issues or if they have yet to be taken care and I'll look forward to the opportunity to further assist you!
I fortunatly have only 3 months left on my dish 1 year contract. Last month (Feb.2011)
I noticed the increase of over $5 without notice. Some contract! I also been charged $6 a month for a service plan I never asked for. The install guy asked me if I wanted the equipment service and I declined. Sure enough, on my first bill was the service plan charge for $6. I spent a 1/2 hour contacting dish to have the service plan removed. Yesterday, for the third time in one year, I spent another 1/2 hour of my time with customer service to get the service plan charge removed. Mean while, I climbed up a 25 foot ladder onto the roof in a snowstorm to clean a skiff of snow off Dish Networks dish at least 20 times this winter. Not good. Cant wait till my contact with Dish is done. I guess back to cable. Ive had issues with them as well but at least I dont have to risk my life going up a icy ladder to have a premium Tv service.
Write your us congressman and the FCC. You can google both and if you input your zip code you will find your congressman. Tell congress you want a fair contract for telecommunications service.
I signed up with Dish on 3/15/10. Their ad said LOCK IN YOUR SAVINGS FOR 12 MONTHS and free installation up to 6 rooms. The price for 200 channels was 32.99 What a joke. They did not tell me that each TV over 2 were $14.00 ea. a month until after installation. I wrote on the paper what I was told about cost, I was told it would be $57.99 the first yr and 72.99 the second year. My first bill was $122.92, the next $61.50, then 2 months a little over $63.00, then $70.00, then $75.00 for 4 months, now I got one for $91.11. Is there no end in sight? I am a senior on SS and I sure cannot afford this. It is more than I was paying for cable. I hope somebody does something about it. Oh, and my son had to have them come out and rewire his TVs and they charged him $100.00. Cable does not charge for service calls.

Yes I cancelled my service with DishNetwork. They were constantly increasing my monthly bill, the service on TV was horrible (even on a clear day), they were constantly removing channels etc. etc. All of this without any type of Notice beforehand. They contacted me and asked if I would like to have the cancellation fee debited to my c/c? I in return stated if you can provide me with a signed contract I will be glad to. They went on to tell me that there was no signed contract, it was verbal. I in return asked if they could provide a recorded statement of me agreeing to such contract. Needless to say, no such result. They could not provide me with any type of document with my signature on it. Now they have turned this unpaid cancellation fee over to a collection agency CBE Group. They are harrassing me to death. I offered to pay half of this balance with the agreement of Dish removing this from my credit, although I still feel that I am not liable for this cancellation fee. Not good enough! So I have decided not to pay a dime and I am looking to sign up with a class action suit in regards to this matter. I continue to pursue my legal actions towards this company. They will go down...
Yes thats right they just increas mine too
overcharge
In April 0f 2008 I responded to an Internet ad. offering Satellite service for $19.95 per month. I realise for this I only get the basic service, so when I received a phone call from a Dish Network rep. I told him MY requirements which were BBC/America, FSC channel and the ESPN channels, I didn't care about anything else. I was given a quote of $39.95 per month, which after I asked him to confirm, accepted. I foolishly gave him my credit card number to cover a $1 initial charge and agreed to installation 3 days later. The ad. also said there would be free gifts etc. free installation up to 3 rooms (I have one TV) but I have NEVER been offered any of the free gifts.
When the first bill came I found the charge has been raised to $54.95 per month, plus they needed two months in advance which being on a very low fixed income caused considerable hardship to me.
I have sent numerous letters to Dish Network at Denver, (copies retained) have had a few phone calls from them where they insist the rep. made an error, and the last call was terminated when I declined a $10 reduction for 10 months because then the new price would be applied again.
Because of the frustrations they have caused I wrote to a local newspaper, the St. Petersburg Times. where they have an Action column which deal with unscrupulous complaints of this nature. I have written to them 3 times now but it appears even they are too hesitant about dealing with a company as large as Dish Network.
They should not be allowed to get away with it and if there is any group action taken against Dish, they do have my 100% support.
It's nearly 4 years later and I see Dish are still ripping people off. Subsequent to my posting of February 2009, Dish illegally debitted my account the sum of $395 .00 to cover the cost of their equipment...I 'd told them, if they want their stuff back, come and collect, after all their vans pass my house several times a week, I wasn't going to waste any more of my time on them. I contacted my bank, gave them the complete details, forwarded all copies of my correspndence to Dish, and within a few days had the $396.00 refunded. My advice to anyone with Dish problems is, DON'T give in, fight them.
Back in July of this year 2008, I called Dish to order NFL season tickedt. The man at that time said O.K. I heard nothing from them or that they do not have NFL season ticket. The first week in September of this year I called and spoke with a girl, she said the season ticket didn't go through, so she said she would take care of it and charge $129.00. On Sunday September 7th I called to complain that we were not getting the NFL season tickets, that girl Jessica said that Dish does'nt have NFL season tickets, I asked that the two previous calls said Dish did. She said I purchased a pay per view event which shows college football. I told her I did not order that, and if Dish didn't have NFL season ticket why was'nt I told that. I would have never ordered college football, all the times I called I asked for NFL season ticket. I said fine please give my account a credit. She(Jessica) told me there are no refunds on pay per view events. I told her I didn't order a pay per view event, I ordered NFL season ticket. She said sorry no refund, I asked to speak to a supervisor she turned me over to David id#TW9, I told him the whole story and his response was the same no refunds on pay per view event, I told him I did not order pay per view event that I wanted NFL season ticket, he said we don't have that. I said then why didn't their employees tell me that instead of charging my account with $129.00. He had no answer. I told him what kind of idots do you have working there. I need this resolved immediately.

I found Dish on the internet for $34.99 advertised price. When my first bill was posted on my account, it was $59.23. I have spoken to several "customer service agents" and none can tell my why they are running false advertisements, or why they cant get me the 434.99 price. They told me the first bill came out before our conversation, and could not be changed, but my future bills could be brought down to $35.99 a month. Still cant find the $34.99 advertised price! I think the BBB needs to look into Dish false ads.
false information credit report
In 2005, I got divorced and cancelled my dish network account. I asked if I could return my receivers and they said no, I had to mail them in provided boxes. I did so and kept the tracking record. About a month later, they called to say they didn't get them. I told them the tracking number and then they said they did get them.
Several months (7 or 8) passed and a collection agency called me to tell I owed 200.00. They said that they got the receiver but they didn't match the numbers they had on file. THEIR PROLEM>
Now it is on my credit report ( I even paid the @200.00) so that it would get on my credit.
It is so wrong to do this to people.

dis-honest offers
I received an offer from Dishnetwork that has 3 part, 3 free months of services, monthy fee of 14.95 and free installion and activation, I agreed, called back dishnetwork to conifm the promotion and i got the conformation from dishnetwork
i got the bill after 5 days of service for 99 dollar activation fee, and 75 dollar 2 month charge, called customer service to ask about the promotion but they told me to pay now and they will see later, i refused and cancelled the service ont that 5 day, the customer serive person told me they will be no charge for the activation or cancalltion, but i got a bill 120 dollar, called again customer service, they said they see no mention about anything and I have to pay the money!
what type of company are them
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
Totally agree...I have had service with them for almost a year. I called to have HBO added for 3 months free if I signed up for direct bill pay from my checking account. The HBO service was not free, in fact my bill tripled and when I called them they said that was the way the bill reads and i didn't owe the money and to only make a payment of $8.35 which is the total for the month. I paid that amount and continued to receive bills and calls stating I owed the full monthly bill. Also I was having problems with the receiver that I was forced to purchased if I wanted their service; I called the technical help line and spoke to a man who told me it was going to cost $175 per hour to have someone come out and check the equiptment orI could sign up for the warranty program at $5.99 per month which I did. 12 hours prior to the service technician arriving, the receiver began to work again. I called and cancelled the service call; later noticing my bills getting higher and higher I called and explained that I should not be being charged for the HBO this was a free service for 3 months and to remove the warranty from my account. The rude man that I spoke to argued with me for over an hour that I was not being charged for the warranty service even though it is clearly printed on my bills. I made payments on the past due balance (from when i was told I only owed $8.35) 10 days later my service was turned off.
unfair charges
Complaint from
Dishnetwok unfair charges
I am a current subscriber to dishnetwork.
Account no [protected] – tel no [protected]
I have a dvr receiver for 2 tv sets.
Dishnetwork requires that the receiver be connected to the telephone line. If it is not connected, they charge a monthly fee of $5.00 (titled programming access fee).
The receiver functions without any tel. Connection, it is not needed for the receiver operation.
By the way, due to the tel. Line that is connected, I get on the television screen the caller id, any time the tel. Rings. That shows that the line is hot, connected and operating.
There is two tests to check the tel. Line connection:
Test 1: test if the receiver recognizes a tel. Line connection. Result ok
Test 2: test if the receiver can use the tel. Line to dial out. Result fail
My tel. Service is through the internet (Voip).
Apparently, this is the problem. Their receiver is not compatible with this type of tel. Service. That is the reason they want to charge me a fee.
After many tel. Conversations with customer and technical services, and emails, they would delete the fee for that month and repost it on the next bill, they even sent me a new receiver that gave the same test result and was returned.
I enclose herewith, a series of emails exchanged with dishnetwork from oct 2008 to jan 2009, it shows them ignoring the problem and asking for the fee regardless of my continuous complaint.

Dear mr. Barsoum,
Thank you for your email. We apologize for any inconvenience this issue has caused. This is a valid charge, and unfortunately I will need to be sure all troubleshooting is complete before we can move forward. This fee will stand on the bill as of now, I am sorry, I understand that you are frustrated. But the phone line is an opportunity to waive a fee that everyone pays. Until the troubleshooting is verified complete this valid charge will stay on the account.

I will pay for a second receiver, when you send me two receivers not a combined receiver that I have over a year without this charge. Nice try
The issue is programing access fee, and till your equipment or problem that is in under your control is fixed, no charges should be added to my bill.

Dear mr. Barsoum,
Thank you for your email. We apologize for any inconvenience this issue has caused. The charge is for the second tv, and when our new billing system is released within the next month or so the name will be changed to reflect this. This is related to the phone line as the phone line is the way that the fee can be waived. Again I would recommend verifying using below troubleshooting to verify the prefix is set to *99. I am sorry for your frustration and inconvenience.

Dear mr. Barsoum,
Thank you for your email. We apologize for any inconvenience this issue has caused. It is important to note this fee is not a penalty for not hooking up a phone line, but instead is a charge for the second tuner. Anyone without a dual tuner is forced to pay this charge, there is an option for people with dual tuners to waive this standard charge, and we apologize if your voip system is having issues communicating with the receiver, but this is a valid charge. I would recommend again verifying the prefix is set to *99 as this is a large assistance in most voip cases.

Dear mr. Barsoum,
Thank you for your email. We apologize for any inconvenience this issue has caused. The receiver successfully dialed out on 9/25/2008 at this point if you are still having issues can you please reply with the voip information and verify the prefix per the instructions below is *99. This can make a difference in the data transfer, the caller id means that it is reading some information, if there is a dial out failure, this could be that “noise” from your voip service is interrupting the dial out. Thank you for your continued patience. At this point there is no way to transfer recordings from the 625. If we replace the receiver the recordings will be lost. We do apologize for any inconvenience unfortunately none of our receivers are guaranteed to work at this point with voip but if you could verify the above is completed.

These are the exact steps done with your techperson when I called
I repeated them as instructed to the letter
The result is : connection ok
Dial out failed
Note: line is hot at the receiver
Caller id is functionning ok
I am using voip with filter
My conclusion: the receiver calling unit is not performing and I suggest to replace the receiver with one that can deal with voip. The only problem is : how to copy the material recorded on the existing receiver

Dear mr. Barsoum,
Thank you for your email. We apologize for the inconvenience this issue has caused. Please verify and perform the following to ensure the receiver reads the phone line:
Verify the following:
• the phone wire to the receiver is connected and in tight.
• a known working telephone works when connected to the wall jack. To verify the outlet works, pick up the hand set and see if you have a dial tone. If you do not have a dial tone, then contact your phone company.
• if you have dsl or voip verify you have the proper filters installed.
• make sure you do not have a block on 800 or 900 numbers through your phone company.
Perform the following:
1. Bypass any splitters or surge protectors in the phone system, and plug the phone line directly into the wall. Keep any dsl filters connected.
2. Press the menu button on the remote control
• select system setup
• select installation
• select phone system
3. Make sure this screen is set up correctly for your phone system. You most likely should have a mark by no prefix and touch tone.
4. Press the menu button on the remote control
• select system setup
• select diagnostics
5. Select connection on the right hand side of the screen.
• this will run a test on your phone system. It will tell you if the unit is hearing a dial tone. Please reply if the test fails as the receiver may need to be replaced.
6. When done, press the view or view tv button on the remote to get back to tv.
If you recently switched to voip, then that may be the problem. Only a few of our receivers are compatible with voip at this time. To verify the receiver is setup for use with voip, perform the following:
1. Press the menu button on your remote control
• select system setup
• select installation
• select phone system
2. Change the outside line option to prefix code.
3. Add the prefix *99
Also, your voip provider should set the service to the highest bandwidth setting and enable fax/modem enhancement features.
If voip requires a filter on the phone line, make sure that is installed as well.

First : the promised adjustment to my bill did not take place. My balance shows -$5.00
Second: on friday oct 17, I called again, and your operator tried a lot of tricks including a 3way call to the tel. Company. After over 90 min., there is no positive result.
The diagnostics: connection ok, dialing out fails
Also, the caller id works on the screen, meaning that the line is hot and communicating
The problem should be in the dialing unit in your receiver.
Until this is fixed, stop charging me for a defect in your equipment
I do not need a service with a (Smile) frustration.

Question: I have a programming access fee on my bill again it stated in april 08, although nothing have changed in the installation.
Connection test ok, dialing failed.
After many complaints, you sent me a new receiver. Problem never changed.
Receiver was returned and I was told that a code will be added to my account that will take care of this problem. August bill reflects that (No charge)
It looks like you have a problem in your system.
I called twice today, and your operator hung up the line.
Please reverse all previous charges and stop charging further.
I hope this is the end of my frustration,...
Thank you

The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
You never did the troubleshooting he asked you to do. The *99 prefix is specifically designed for VoIP customers, and most times this will solve the issue. You continually refused to accept that this was the correct answer by saying that he refused to help you when he was offering you a solution.
Well they pulled that crap on me all of sudden over charging me fees. Let me explain this clearly, I dont have a cell phone so of course when dish wanted to check to see if the phone was plugged into the receiver, they wouldnt get any infomation because obviouslly the phone cant dial out, since I am using it.
Do yourself a favor use a cell phone, to call dish, and then let them verify that the phone can dial up.
Dish net has started charging me bogus fees, and I have to call everytime to have them remove it, I told them I dont want the dish home protection plan and they insist on charging me still, I told them when I first got dish I didnt want it and they been charging for me for over a year, now I caught the charge as of late, and they still charged me.
The thing is the plan for dish home protection plan was included in the subscrption service in the beginning.
Dish is basically charging fees, back and forth, and surely is making millions on this bogus fee charges, and unsuspected individuals dont realize it. I had it I am going to get rid of them. Not worth the hassle.
took money out of my wifes checking account without her approval
I opened an account with dish network in December 2007. This account is ONLY IN MY NAME. I lost my job in Oct. of last year and have been fighting unemployment since. So, needless to say, I have fallen behind in my payments on ALL my bills. My wife has a checking account(which does NOT have my name or authorization on it). She went to check her funds noticing there was something VERY wrong, to find out that dish network had taken EIGHT HUNDRED AND EIGHTY DOLLARS out of HER account WITHOUT HER APPROVAL OR HER EVEN KNOWING ABOUT IT. Now mind you, my wife's name, card number, NOTHING, is on MY contract with dish. ONLY MY SIGNATURE! Dish Network STOLE this money from HER to pay MY debt. This is to me Identity Theft and I want my wife to get compensation for her grief and anxiety of having HER money STOLEN from her. Now the bank has made up the money till this is all resolved, but then again, We feel they were also at fault wiring the money without my wife's permission. So, this is my and my wife's complaint and we would like for dish to compensate her for their negligence and disrespect. AGAIN, MY WIFE HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH MY ACCOUNT TO DISH NETWORK. I have my original contract and bills sent to me ONLY IN MY NAME AND ACCOUNT. ALL THE WAY TILL THIS LAST DECEMBER WHEN DISH JUST DECIDED TO PUT HER NAME ON MY BILLS. NO AGREEMENT WITH ME OR HER. JUST ADDED HER TO IT. Who do they think they are just stealing money and adding people to MY ACCOUNT without my approval?
Thanks For Your Time!

i didn't give dish permission to take money out of my brother bank account. may 21st $99 dollars was taken out without permission, all the equipment was return to them by ups, contacted bank, will be making formal complaints to better business bureau, they were told brother suffer a minor stroke, how can they do this to a unwell person
my name is linda from Kentucky dish illegally took 400 dollars debit card without my permission. beware people they are crooks. the card is in my husband name he not even on the account they took his s.s check TIME FOR A LAWYER
Hi everyone, "buyer alert" do not sign up or do business with dish . Had thier company for a few months signed up with my debit card by phone and they charged me a one fee of $170.00 and asked me did i want their auto pay, i told them no, i would pay them monthly over the phone, he said alright. I don't have to tell you that when i was unable to pay them for one month and ask for a week extention they cut me off sent me a ups box to sent their equipment back i did. An d they turned me over to a collection agency and four months later they charged my bank debit card $400 over drafting my account $430.00 and i am on a fixed income of $730.00 yea can you imagine how i feel. I call my bank woodforest and they told me to file a fraudulent paper so i did they lady at the bank say that they would probably hold it pending until 45 to 60 day of investigation and waiting to hear from dish. "really" well you know they put it though anyway and told me i have to waite until investigation is over. People we all need to get together and file a suit against dish everybody should pitch in and we all go to a specific lawyer and let people everyware know what dish is doing.
I am dealing with this same issue right now. When I first got dish Network and they told me I had to sign a contract I refused and told them that if they wanted me to sign this they cold just take there stuff back. No way was I going to sign there contract. They said this was fine and left there equipment. We had dish for a while then my husband had a heart attack and has been off work since before thanksgiving. I do not work because I am disabled myself. My husband will be returning to work when he is able. They want there equipment back but will not send someone out to get it off the roof of my house even though we are not able. They Also took money out of my account without my authorization and left me with 53 cents. I have bills that need paid and prescriptions that need filled wich I can not do now thanks to Dish network. Hope they like the fact that they are keeping us from taking our heart medicines. I never signed a contract with them and will be looking into prosecuting. They dont even have the correct name on the account. I found out they took the money at the pharmacy when I was trying to pick up meds and didn't have the money in my account. Hope you are all proud of yourselfs. I will be putting this warning on facebook and twitter daily to warn people about these crooks. Also have friends and family doing this also. Anyone else would like to feel free to pass this on. I would greatly appreciate this.
I had the exact same problem. I was charged from my checking account when the account was only in my fiance's name. My name no where on it! I used my debit card once for an upgrade, but not to originally open the account. When service was stopped, I was billed $600. I was hung up on several times while trying to get my money back. Still don't have it back. The attitude of the supervisor that posted on here is the exact attitude of everyone there. I have posted on facebook, told everyone I know, and will continue spreading the word that dish network is a miserable company that steals people's money without authorization.
They steal money. My girlfriend signed up for Dish TV and we could not get it because the line of site and got a refund. Then they took 105.00 dollars from her account for a months service when we didn't have it.
This is straight from the contract, Im a supervisor at dish.

excessive charges
Continued excessive charges on my creditcard. They continue to charge $ 66.03, when the companies' representative insisted he would refund the past charge, and only charge (about) 26 dollars, every mionth! Also, they deny receiving a returned DVD receiver (The UPS person warned me about this occuring repeatedly with Dish Network!). Enough is enough! I do...

I've had several experiences with dish network over the years, dating back to the 1980's when you had to buy your equipment, which I did paying for the equipment + 1 year's programming up front. Back then the dish was $199 + $25 per month for programming, total $500. First month I get a bill from dish for $299 plus programming when the balance owed should have been zero! After calling the number [protected]-dish) many times and picking the billing option on the automated answerer, I would be put on hold indefinetly or hung up on. So I call and pick the (add new service option). Surprise! I instantly get a real person to talk to. After spending much time on the phone, explaining how I blindly payed for the equipment and service in cash, in advance, I'm told to ignore the bill, it would be taken care of & everything was o.k. Next month I get a bill for $299 + 2 mos. programming + a service disconnect notice if it is not payed. Long story short, it took 3 more months and many more phone calls to finally get it straightened out. (their dime, right?) After 8 years as a customer I switched to directv, (sometimes change is good), but switched back after moving into my new house. As a new customer, I was supposed to get a $100 rebate, ($10 a mo. off my bill for 10 mos.) After getting my first bill & realizing the $10 rebate had not been applied, I called & was told I had to submit a form supplied by my installer to get the rebate. Needless to say, the installer never gave me any such form & never told me I had to file anything to get the rebate. You also only have 30 days to submit the form from date of install, Which has already expired! Good one, dish network. They are like all the other utilities, always looking for new ways to rook another buck from the customer. After 2-1/2 more years and half a dozen price increases, I have cancelled service with them for the 2nd and final time, I will get my programming elsewhere.
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
I bought a new HDTV for Christmas got it hook up by dish network they said on phone 179.00 dollars to hook up with a 100.00 dollar back. Call in and they would send the form this is a scam call 6 to 8 times never got anything in mail was told to do it online but never given correct code . This is what is wrong with America now so much dis- honesty. Well take that 100.00 dollars time millions of people this is a big fraud and just a way to raise our bills again. when is it going to stop it, s happing in housing loans by banks, water companies, electric co. people should not be able to put what ever interest rates they want there should be one and one only.
i called dish network to get new service. after the installation the service tech noticed that i didnt have the hd package that i should have. we called customer service and they said it would be an extra $10 a month. i said that i didnt want the service then, because they couldnt keep their promise. the tech left all of the equipment at my house and i got an email saying that i had to ship them the receiver at my cost of $15. this is after i had missed half a day of work to find that they had made a mistake that i had to pay for. i will never use dish network or encourage someone else to.
fraudulent billing
I have had DISH Network installed for over four years now. I have one PVR/Dual-Tuner receiver (522), and one single-tuner receiver (311) installed. These tuners are garbage and freeze, lock up, mangle video, and generally misbehave, but that is not why I am writing today.
In March, I requested that DISH Network discontinue an add-on channel package. I was assured over the phone that the programming change would take place that evening. As this matched my prior experience, I thought little more of it and life went on as before. All my bills are automatically paid through my credit card and bank account, and I am completing a dissertation, so this was not exactly #1 on my priority list. Besides, DISH had been responsive before and took care of programming changes (adding packages) easily in the past, so surely this wouldn't be an issue, right?
Wrong.
In November, I noticed that my satellite bill was over $100. Odd. I looked into it, and I was still being charged for the add-on package - I had been charged continuously since March! I promptly submitted a billing question via their online form, only to find out that my email address was marked 'invalid.' Odd. I looked at the form and took note of where it was going - [protected]@echostar.com - and wrote an email from my account. I then waited 48 hours for a response.
After receiving nothing so much as an acknowledgement of receipt after 2 days of waiting, I went back to DISH Network's web site. In looking at my statement, I noticed that it is now possible to disconnect service/packages from the account over the web - something that is new. I put in an order to disconnect the package, then wrote a follow-up email to my first (again to [protected]@echostar.com) to let them know that I'd discontinued the service via their web site. The last thing I wanted to hear was, 'we took care of that in November!'
I decided to try their web site form again, this time using a different email address. This time, the form went through and I awaited a response. A couple more days went by and I still heard nothing. I decided to get satisfaction through my credit card company and filed disputes in the value of the pacakge plus tax on the package.
I then forwarded my original email to the CEO and head of customer service, and filed a BBB complaint. I heard nothing further about my original email. However, I did get feedback from my BBB complaint.
I received a phone call the next day from a woman in Denver - the corporate headquarters. She didn't sound like an axe murderer, so I decided to call back. Her voice mail told me that she'd be out of the office the following day. In my voicemail to her, I left specific instructions outlining terms of negotiation. First and foremost was that I would vastly prefer to be contacted via email rather than on my phone. This would help protect all parties from faulty memories.
The following day I received a phone call from someone (Scott?) who identified himself as a co-worker of the woman from the previous day. He was rude, abrasive, incredulous, and quite unconvincing in the 'I give a damn' role. He interrupted my narrative to tell me that they had no record of a 'discontinue' request in March, and made it pretty clear that he thought I had made the whole thing up in an attempt to bilk DISH Network out of money.
Scott (?) offered a settlement of less than half of the amount I am out (the package price + tax * months of payment). He seemed especially incredulous that I hadn't noticed the bill - as I said earlier, I am completing a terminal academic degree - this requires some degree of focus and concentration on it, rather than the DISH bill. If DISH network incurs a 'carrier fee' that is a per-user surcharge, I would gladly lower my request to cover DISH's losses, but no such offer was made.
Here's where we stand: the BBB notice has been replied to by Scott, and CC'd to the customer service manager. I have been sitting on my hands for a couple of days, but my initial inclination is to refuse the settlement and let the customer service manager know that their agent managed to turn a bad situation worse, and that his demeanor has now got me looking at cable and FTA satellite, rather than continuing on with DISH.
Any recommendations? All I want to do is have a reasonably open platform to record TV (both pay-channels and local) and watch from time to time.
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
I understand the reasoning for doing everything by email but here's the thing, dish's e-care dept isn't a big dept and if you want to have something done and right then call in everytime you call in the memo field of your account is auto stamped that you did, talking and making sure that your account is properly notated will always help

fraudulant claim insects in reciever
WOW! We had a faulty reciever we put up with for months. We finally called Dish Network and were instructed to return the unit. We did so and a few weeks later a charge for a damaged reciever shows up on our account to the tune of $275.00! When I called to ask what was damaged I was informed that there was a note on our account stating that the reciever was "infested with insects and was destroyed immediatly because it was a biohazard!" I asked the nice man "what kind of insects?"..."Did they take pictures?"...I have no idea was my answer, I can only read the note.. I then spoke to a "coach"...and was given the same line, was infested with insects and I can't tell you anything about what kind or answer any questions...I informed the man that I will fight this and will not pay these false charges, then imagine my surprise when I come online and do a search and find another complaint on this website exactly the same as mine! I can't believe any company would stoop so low as to do this, I'm horrified of "bugs" and just the thought of it has me nauseated and made me feel dirty...I'm madder then I've ever been and will not let this one go un-noticed!

The same thing just happened to us. After 5 years our DVR was acting up. So, decided to order a new one. They instructed us to send the old one back which I did. Then 2 months later I see we are being charged for a "damaged DVR". Thinking that maybe they did not receive the DVR and were charging us, I emailed them. They said that their technician noted that the damage was from animal fur! Funny because we don't even have any pets! I emailed them back and told them this and to send proof of animal fur in the DVR. Haven't heard back and it's been over a week. Just emailed them again. I had a feeling that we were not the only people this has happened to so I did a search and found this site. Did you end up paying them?
Good for you! Take the ### to small claims court!
pause policy/erroneous charge
For approx 4 years I have had Dish Network, used primarily with a mobile unit or dish for our motorhome. When traveling we would call and ask them to activate the account, when not we would not. This was called a "pause". Again, have had it for approx 4 years.
In June of 2008 I received a bill for $174.88 - after hours on the phone it turns out that if I did not activate the account within 6 months I would be bill for a previous program charge. They told me that I had agreed to this and that this was on tape. I said I had not and they told me they could not find any record of my account prior to January of 2008. I tried to cancel the account, they told me I would have to speak to someone else (yet another hour on the phone probably). This charge is erronous and I want to cancel the account and will go probably with Direct TV. Any assistance you could provide would be helpful.
Thank you.

harrassment
HELP ME TO GET DISH NETWORK TO STOP CALLING ME! I am chronically ill & unable to leave my home most days. I have been getting harassing calls from Dish since this summer. The calls are now 2-3 times weekly. Every time I get a call, I call the 1-800 # listed on Dish website. I have spoke to many rude people who do not take any responsiblity for calls representing Dish Network. They ensure me that I am on their DO NOT CALL list & I have added myself to the national DNC. On 10-03-08 I spoke with a Dish Network employee Rubin Perea whom claimed to be in the DNC dept. Operator ID-4YI. His desk # [protected]. I also have the number to a 3rd party call center that sales Dish via spoof numbers. Their return # [protected], I mostly got hang ups when I called and questioned why will Dish not stop calling me? I live in a condo & could not even install a dish if I wanted. I don't know what else to do besides spreading the word about this horribly ran company. FYI- I have a log of each phone call for over the past month now.
can't get a refund
On 8/17/08 I ordered dish network. I had directv but dish network looked like a better deal. It was scheduled to be installed 8/22/08 between 8 & 12. I had scheduled to disconnect directv that day and it was disconnected. When dish network didn't show up, I called them and they told me that since I had had dish network back in 2001 and had switched to directv, their computer system confused the customer number that I had back then and automatically deleted my installation order. After being on the phone for 45 minutes they told me they couldn't install dish network for 2 weeks. I had company coming that day and could not wait 2 weeks for them to install it. I told them to foget it and I called directv to reconnect me. Dish network told me that since it was their fault, they would refund the 49.95 connect fee. David at dsih network told me that he emailed his supervisor about the horrible way I had been treated. I did not get the refund so I called again on 9/15 and talked to toby. He said that everything was documented but that dish network couldn't refund my money, defender's security would have to refund it since they were the installers (That never showed up). On 9/16 I called defenders security and spoke with christy. She told me that the connection fee was non refundable. Dish network was never connected but christy just laughed at me. If I had used a credit card instead of my debit card, I wouldn't be having this problem. On 9/23 I emailed dish network. They told me that I would have to contact defenders security. I emailed back and told them that I had and could not get anywhere with them. I asked them to turn my complaint over to a supervisor. Since then I have not heard from them. They are ignoring me and it appears there is no way for me to get a refund of this connect fee. It was their computer glitch that caused the problem in the first place. This is not right and it is not fair.
I have the same issue! The installer stole $50 from me by claiming I had to buy a room mount when it was supposed to be given to me. Then they charged me $11 a month for a second box that was supposed to be $6 because it had a "dual tuner" when they KNEW I only had 3 TV's! Then they want $16.50 to return their equipment when the only way TO return it was through the mail cause they wouldn't let their technicians take it away and there are no drop off's!
When I called to discuss it they put me on hold for 30 MINUTES. I finally hung up and called back and all they say was that the prior people I talked to stated they read me those fees and I agreed to them (when I DID NOT) and they wouldn't even comp me a lousy $16.50! @#%^&
I will NEVER use their services again, no matter where I live! These guys are a mess and thieves to boot!
horrific experience with dishtv and at&t bundle
Was lured by AT&T to switch my from Timewarner Cable bundle to DishTV and ATT Internet / Phone Service. Phone service and Internet installation went as planned with some minor glitches, however Dishtv Never showed up for first of 2 appointments causing me to burn 2 vacation days awaiting technician arrival. I rec'd a call a few days later asking about an open order pending and a third appointment was setup to install Dish. The technician arrived 6 hours late for the third appointment - during a rainstorm and at 6:30 in the evening. He explained that the line of site to establish service was inadequate for the service I ordered, but using the new Dish and new Receivers, I would be fine. The technician assured the following Saturday we would receive a visit to complete order. Again a no show however a call late in the day that the technician was running late and would be out first thing Sunday morning. Again a no show on the following Sunday. No calls came from Dish regarding this order since. I called today (being a week after the last no-show) and was advised a manager was at my house on 9/15 and verified that no-line of sight was available completely contradicting the technician who was onsight. No call was ever placed to us, and we have absolutely no evidence that anyone ever even showed up on 9/15.. no note, no followup.. nothing.
Tried to complain to Dish only to be transferred to no less than 4 individuals before being put into a que for installation. I will cancel my AT&T Service and ask to never receive a flyer to bundle services again in the mail as false advertising.
fraud and cheating
Sigh. You know I really do like the features offered by Dish Network. I like being able to flip channels and have a banner that shows me what's on and with the click of the Info button get specifics on the programming. And, I really do love our DVR. I really do. So, now you are wondering why I am here, right?!
We HAD been faithful and happy customers of the DISH Network for over 12 years, until December of 2007, when we got a letter from DISH explaining that if we wanted to continue receiving our local channels that we needed a service tech to come out and upgrade our DISH antenna for free, and according to the letter this needed to be done soon. Okay. So, we call DISH to schedule for this free antenna upgrade, and guess what?! The earliest we could get it done is in March 2008! Outrageous, especially since the letter made it sound like we would lose our local channels after January 2008. So, we waited til our scheduled appointment in March and, guess what?! The installer calls and says they can't do it that day, and it will have to be in May! Ok, whatever. May. This is still outrageous, but at least we still have our local channels and all the channels are working well. May finally comes and the service tech gets to our house late in the afternoon. Does the upgrade, but leaves before the switch installation verification is done, as it takes 35 minutes to finish, and says if there's any issues to call him. Ok, whatever (that was my hubby talking there). Guess what?! 35 minutes later there's an error in the switch installation with the middle transponder! So, every other time we want to watch DISH, we have to wait for the switch installation verification--believe me this is getting old fast. We call the installer, and he says its probably an aiming issue and says he will come out and aim it right when he's back in town in a couple of days. Ok, whatever. The evening after he said he'd re-aim the antenna, still the switch installation verification must be done and the same error comes up on the middle transponder (I'm thinking this is the DISH's middle finger--satellite TV's version of road rage, apparently). We've called DISH customer service several times, as the installer can't come out again to "repair" this without a service order from DISH.
In the middle of July we got a service tech out to fix it. Oh, and Dish had the nerve to try to charge us $75 for the service call, even after we expressly told them that it was Dish that initiated the problem and they said they would not charge us for the service call. My husband spoke with them again and got them to drop the service call charge. The verification error issue is fixed, but now the local channels don't work. When we turn to a local channel, sometimes it comes on for a minute, sometimes it doesn't, but it always will go to an error message. It is frustrating to pay $5/month extra for service we don't get. It is especially disturbing because ever since we started, we pay for the year upfront, but when we started getting the local channels, we have to pay that every month, thus we are reminded monthly how we DON'T get that service.
To make matters worse, several Dish subscribers in our community are having the same problem receiving the local channels, and Dish is basically ignoring the problem. All we want is to be able to consistently get our local channels. I don't think we are asking much. But, Dish apparently cannot connect the dots to help all of us out. The worst part is that all of us are really considering dropping Dish for cable--egads!
In July, when we were experiencing our daily Dish torment, I had written this in my journal: "No matter how much I hate local cable, why, oh why is DISH pushing me to cancel their service and subscribe to crappy local cable? Don't push me too far, DISH, I'll do it... I'll subscribe to crappy local cable, because right now I have NO SERVICE from DISH." Sad, really. We've been mostly content with Dish for about 12 years now. We've persuaded friends and relatives to subscribe to Dish, and touted their services.
I really hate local cable, but I am really beginning to hate the lack of responsive service so we can receive local channels. If they can't give us local, I wish we could have our East feed of the networks back. I just want to watch Saturday Night Live one of these weekends. I heard the Tina Fey-Sarah Palin impression is impressive. Sigh.
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
Whoa PROBLEMS? Thought it was just me. Over 3yrs. ago Dish Install. From the beginning lousy. Installer, "Any problems call us". Ha! Nothing but problems. I was nice a first. After 6 or 7 calls with no return calls, told them to either come fix it or pick up their equipment.
Little did I know this was the beginning of a catastrophe. Dish not aimed properly. Necessary info not downloaded. Ha! Why did you leave so fast? Now I sit back to enjoy some TV. Enjoy! ENjoy! ENJOY! More problems crop up.
Have wide screen TV. TV sits perpendicular to computer. Distance 12ft. Working on computer, my peripheral vision is perfect, notice some thing odd. Turn & look at TV. Channels are changing. Remote control not even close to me. WHAT IS GOING ON?
MORE PROBLEMS! Watching TV. Half the screen turns black & stays black. Hmmm! Size of large info box? Yes! Does it go away? No. Several days like this. Enjoy TV? Ha!
Have to admit, with one problem called "DISH". Very nice female rep. walks me thru problem. Great. High Definition programs better.
Call "DISH". Male rep. says it will cost $245.00 for box. Put it on Credit card. Came out & installs box. Now I get a monthly charge for HD box. Call Dish & told them I bought the box. "Sorry, we just rent the box. We don't sell them". Well I sure bought & paid for mine. DISH: "We don't sell them". Do you think I am stupid enough to rent any kind of box for $245.00 a month? Get with it. Still received monthly bill for rental of HD box. I'm not paying that monthly fee. Reimburse me. DISH: "Can't do that. We only rent them, not sell them".
I refuse & don't pay monthly fee. Next the programs don't come in correctly. You name it, it has happened to me. CANCEL ME OUT. Discontinue my service. DISH: "You have contract with us for 2 yrs". Whoa, DID have contract. If one constituting contract doesn't live up to their end of contract, the contract will be nullified, after attempts have been made to correct problem. Reasonable attempts had been made.
Service is canceled. Still receive monthly bill for service & HD box. AUDACITY! Go to Wells Fargo Bank and explain problem. Do not pay DISH anything. ARBITRATION. Repudiate charges. Want my $245.00 back. Wells Fargo's action? Sit on it & do nothing. Oh, excuse me. Just what is necessary.
DISH notifies Wells Fargo Bank they will send boxes to me to send back equipment back. I'm reasonable. Refund my money first & I will send you equipment. DISH informs Wells Fargo Bank boxes have been sent. Did I receive them? It is a good thing I'm not holding my breath. I still have not received them. Gone to collections when It was not my fault. Still on credit report. Changed banks as Wells Fargo was dragging their feet. Withdrew my money out. Went to find a bank. D.L. EVANS BANK. Rah for them. To put it bluntly, DISH has a lot to be desired. RWK
Get Verizon FiOS if it is available in your area. Combined with phone and internet access, you can get all 3 for $99 a month, which is a steal considering the internet is much, much faster than any cable you'll come across, and you get around 200 TV channels, which again is a steal for the price when compared to any cable provider like Comcast. The picture quality is incredible and the service is flawless in my experience. Why anyone would want regular cable like Comcast when they could have this is beyond me.
My experience with Dish Network is similar. We recently got an urgent notice saying our Dish receiver had to be "upgraded." The job took all day and into the evening. If it was working properly it would still require changing inputs on the remote to get from Dish to local cable, something the old receiver did with a "channel scan, " a worthwhile functionality that allowed changing from Dish channels to local cable seamlessly. This feature was dropped on the "upgrade." Now I can't get my local cable except for one channel and when I do get that I can still hear the last Dish channel in the background.
The incompetence and stupidity of Dish Network is stunning, and I will be changing providers.

As a Sonic Internet customer, I saw a promotion for DISH TV, and called. The rep was polite but said I would have to pay 500 dollars to avoid having my credit pulled and giving my social to a total stranger over the phone.
My credit files are frozen solid, so I gave him the SSN and he said, "OH, I can't get your credit." this was after I told him my credit files are locked up tighter than a well diggers butt.
Anyway...I am going to smash my TV at this point. There is never anything good on TV anyway.
My contact with a dish rep occurred recently, about a few days ago to be exact. The woman asked for my personal info, credit card information, which i gave to her willingly in hopes of signing up for the service. Then she asked for my social security number which I made clear to her that i wasn't comfortable giving. Needless to say that her tone was somewhat condescending. I told her that I wasn't comfortable giving my social and she responded by saying "you gave me your credit card information, it's just like your social security number so you shouldn't be hesitant" I was shocked by her response. I replied by saying "well the difference is i can cancel my card anytime, not my social security number so those are two different things". She then asked for the last 4 digits of my social to see if i qualify (i mean who needs to qualify for tv service for crying out loud? She made it sound like i was applying for a credit card, which i gladly told her). Anyway, i gave her the 4 digits and she returned by saying the system didn't allow her to process the info so i would need to give her my full social security number. I was NOT about to release that information. She tried convincing me by saying all kinds of things like "your information is safe", "we have millions of customers and NO ONE has EVER refused to give us their social security number" (which i found to be an absolute lie!). I told her that i didn't feel comfortable doing so as it didn't make sense to me to give my social security number for a service. Heck i don't need to give it up for utilities which are necessities. Anyway, as we went back and forth with the conversation, i could tell that she was getting irritated with me because she wasn't getting her way. Then i told her that i'm assuming she's frustrated because this doesn't make sense to me. Her response was a big fat EVIL laugh which i found to be highly unprofessional. I mean i couldn't believe she was laughing that loud. How unprofessional. She told me that she wasn't frustrated and i said she was because i could tell it in her voice and she was coming off rude. She LOL again and i said she needed to better manage her tone because she is coming off rude. Bottom line is i didn't give her my social. She called later that evening and i ignored her call. I didn't think they were allowed to do so. Anyway, that's my experience with them as of April 2014.

I just called DISH to inquire pricing and possibly schedule an installation. I was baffled when the gentleman who was helping me requested my social security number. He said, just like Directv, DISh will need to do a credit check for the services. "Credit check for cable" I said? Are you serious? He sure was. I tried to get off the phone with him without having to just plain hang up on him, but he kept talking and reasoning with how this is standard for all satellite cable companies and if I ever had satellite cable, I should know. He started getting pushy and rude. He kept telling me things that made me feel like I was crazy for feeling uncomfortable about giving my social security number. So, while he was talking, I googled DISH is requesting my social security number. I only had a brief moment to review what popped up, which was a lot, on Google. I told him I am okay, I will think about it and call back because I needed to do some research and find out since when did we all have to give our social security numbers for cable... He quickly responded well we can do it with the last four of social security. Long story short, I ended up giving him my last four, then he requested my credit card number to, HOLD A DOLLAR...what?!? I'm an indiot and I got took, I gave my number and he came back on the phone with some pricing and such. But man! I can't even believe I just got took like that! I asked if he would be sure to discard my information as I didn't even know why I gave it to him and he responded, "well, yeah, of course, I mean, I can't do anything with it if you don't order anything." ARE YOU SERIOUS! ? Who in the heck trained these people? So I said, "wow, cable people are kind of rude, what is it with cable people?" He responds, "hey, I'm trying to help YOU out." Oh my goodness. My jaw dropped. Then I found this online, and so I am writing my little spill, because it looks to me that these companies are just full of crap trying to take business rather than earn it. I don't need cable THAT bad... And, he also said, (gotta share with you all as I am amazed of the comments!) "We don't have 4 million customers for nothing." WOW! Wow! Wow is all i have to say about this, WOW!

You haven't set yourself up for identify theft. Ease your mind on that point at least. What happened is that the agent wanted the sale (they get paid by commission) and lied to you in order to increase her paycheck. It didn't matter to her that the installer would come out for nothing. It didn't matter to her that she fraudulently created an order. All that mattered to her was that she got a sale. More than likely, she's out of an overseas office with very lax rules and almost no repercussions for this type of behavior. A lot of people think that it's cruel to lump up the entire overseas phone rep service into one negative stereotype, but the fact is that cultural differences do play a large role in why the service from these places stink so badly. Free thought is limited by language barriers and their idea of "business-like" conduct is very different from how it's approached here and in other Western countries. I grew up and am a part of this culture. I'm not just saying this to be some kind of a bigot. It's more of a barter system over there with little emphasis on customer satisfaction and more of a bottom line mentality with no shame for getting one over on a consumer. In fact, that type of cut-throat wheeling and dealing is actually prized. Not saying American reps can't be just as callous but whenever I've seen this type of thing happen (I work for a satellite company), it's been with an overseas rep.
Dish Network has the worst customer service I have ever dealt with and has made me feel guilty for feeling prejudiced toward non-Americans because I have such a hard time understanding their customer service reps on the phone! That aside, when they dumped my local ABC network in December because of a contract dispute with Fisher Communication, that was the last straw! I switched back to cable with Comcast and got a great "dish buy-back" deal. On a side note, Dish Network sent me boxed to return the equipment in and expected me to go up on my roof to actually remove the dish to send back. Yeah right, like that's going to happen! What losers -- if you are reading this, PLEASE dump Dish Network. They are a useless company!
