Debited a $6,000 deposit from my business and will not refund
Our independently owned restaurant with 22 years in business and a good payment history with FP&L, just got debited $6,000 as a non-refundable deposit to cover any future short pay in our bills. We have been told by multiple FP&L agents that they cannot refund this at any point in the future unless the business is dissolved or moves to a new address.
This happened as we have 3 separate accounts; Our main restaurant (about $3,000 per month), an adjacent outhouse with a separate address (under $200/pm) and outside lighting (under $200/pm). Recently one of the small accounts got inadvertently switched to paperless billing. With each new payment issued for the main account and one of the smaller ones, we missed paying one of the smaller bills. The way their accounting works, they paid the two smaller bills first leaving a small balance outstanding on the main account. After three months of this and us not seeing the emails from them (since we were now paperless) as they went into a different folder, they made the $6,000 debit to cover any possible charges for 2 months.
It is outrageous that they will not credit our deposit back and have no way this can be undone. Most services or utilities would charge late fees as a flat fee or a percentage of the balance outstanding.
We are happy to switch to automatic deposit so this will not be an issue for any account again but even this is not an acceptable resolution to FP&L.
Desired outcome: To go on an ACH autopay for all 3 accounts and arrange a credit of this deposit.
Broken sprinkler line and damage to our garden.
Our power went out recently and it needed to be fixed in the middle of the night by FPL. They fixed the pole issue yet they broke my sprinkler pvc water line in half while they were digging in the ground. They left a cone by it but never told us about the damage. The whole area was dug up as well. It used to be grass and now its rocks.

Desired outcome: Damage to our garden and damaged sprinkler line repair paid for.
Transmission tree line service
I contacted FPL Feb 16th about a tree that was close to the high voltage transmission line. It appeared to have been hit by lightning & was leaning towards the line. I stated my concern was the tree hitting the line if I dropped it myself. I stated have a couple of storage buildings & a chicken fence area & I didn't want it falling on them either. Two weeks later & 4 FPL tree specialist had been out. The first 3 told me they were not the right crew to take the tree out & they said it was too dangerous for me to attempt to drop it. They all told me they would get the proper person out there to meet with me & get the tree taken down.
The 4th person showed up. Very nice, very professional. He said he thought the tree had been hit by lightning & it was definitely in danger of falling into the power line. He said if I tried dropping it myself & it got caught in the line & I tried cutting the tree with my chainsaw, the voltage would go through the saw & kill me instantly. He estimated it was a 130K, volt line. He said he would have a crew out in the next day or two. That was on a Wednesday March 2nd. I called the following week as no one had shown up. The lady told me a work order had been submitted that Monday & they should be out in a day or so.
Fast forward to March 11th. A huge cold front came in & blew the tree over right onto my chicken fence (see Photos). Now, I have an even bigger issue to figure out in how to get this tree off of my fence safely. I trusted FLP in good faith to do what they said they would do. I even asked them if they could just cut out enough of the tree so I could safely drop it & was told they would take care of it for me. He even marked 2 others that are in the same tree root (tri root) to take out.
I called this past Tuesday to try & get this resolved. I had 2 more tree specialist come out. The 2nd one put in a work request & a crew came out today February 18th. Great crew. They took the two existing trees down & left the area clean. When I asked about the tree that fell on the fence, he said he could not touch it because it was now on my personal property & he didn't want to damage my fence anymore.
Desired outcome: FPL should fix this. It shouldn't have to be me.
Electricity usage and bill
Our bill has steadily increased and our power usage has been less than ever. Starting in one of the hottest months in 2021 our bill was $150.00. It has now reached a total of $476.18 for one month! And I have been much more deligent in turning lights off, not running acs or heaters etc.
We NEVER get a regular bill and ALWAYS get a disconnect notice to pay with a few days. The automated system denies extensions everytime and it's impossible to reach a representative to talk to and find out why our bill keeps escalating and escalating and we always have to pay the previous balance due or our service is disconnected.
My bill is over $800.00 now, this is a rip off and this company, this monopoly, has come into our city and destroyed households and caused burdens and stress to our people and economy for pure greed. Y'all work with noone and just continue to rape our pockets over necessities. It's disgusting.
I want to know how I'm using less power than ever and my bill has over tripeled, I can never get extended for a little reprieve to come up with the exsorbent and outrageous and late bills. And why is is impossible to speak to a human? It's ridiculous and at this point, inhumane.
Thank you,
Jeffery Smith
Pricing Hike
As I'm sure that you're aware, FPL has received an insane amount of backlash in the Florida Panhandle. I'm just here to restate the absurdity of rates the we Floridian peasants are receiving. $20 - $50 increase is not enjoyable but understandable. However, with FPL, my bill increased $130 (as compared with Gulf Power last year). Since we are still in the "winter", I didn't run the AC/Heater at all and kept lights off, ran dishwasher, washing machine, dryer, etc.. a lot less to test if I would notice a major difference and no dice. After speaking with FPL's customer service representatives, I've just accepted that FPL is basically a garbage company and we'll have to succumb to the monopoly.
Desired outcome: Revert back to Gulf Power or charge reasonable rates.
Fountain Lakes Community in Estero FL. Electric Meter for power to our gazebo area at [protected] Fountain Lakes Blvd Estero, FL
In October, Fountain Lakes Community in Estero, FL had an electrical company install a new electric line to our Gazebo area. It was finally approved in December but we still did not have power. December FLP staff stated the account had been deleted and we must open a new account. That was done... you have sent technicians several times since then to turn the power on. These technicians did not contact our office that they were on site and still no power to the meter. March 4th, a technician came out and actually talked to our Office Secretary Sherri Kurlas-Schalk ([protected]@pegasuscam.com). He did not connect the meter to power. He said someone turned it off and he could not turn it back on. Why was he sent out there if he could not connect it?
Three months later, and several visits by your technicians and we still do not have power to the meter. What is your problem with giving us service?
This situation has wasted many hours by Sherrie and your employees. Not to say the hours I have wasted trying to keep on top of the issue.

Desired outcome: I would like it fixed today!
Very poor workmanship
On March 9th 2022 FPL sent a crew to 470 s cypress road for branch removal. This is a professional salon that has a backyard. None of the crew spoke proper english so there was no communication. This awful crew broke several of our tiles as they were scattered about. Our beautiful large potted plants were uprooted hanging out of pots. They left rubber and sharp wire scattered about the yard. Leaves and branches from what they cut down were all over the place and they broke our fence. When i arrived at work to this horrid mess I was just appaled at the disseray. This was horrible. I cant believe anyone would leave a job like this. I hope you take this as serious as it is. Thank you
Desired outcome: This crew should be fired and we should be re embursed for what they broke and the time it took to clean this whe mess up.
rate jumped from 200 per month to 800 per month . minimal electricity used
Tried and failed to speak with a person at FPL . Only voice . Outrageous. Need help now

power cut off due to damaged meter can
Last year, I received a letter that my meter can was damaged. I notified my condo association who said it was my responsibility (which I later found out it wasn't) I had two master electricians inspect it and both informed me that since there are many other meter cans in the meter box outside, fixing mine alone was near impossible because the parts were unable to be located due to the antiquated unit in place. I called FPL on 3 different occasions and informed the agents of my plight to which I was informed they'd update my records and not to worry about it. Well, on Thursday, 2/24/22, my daughter called to inform me that there was no power. Upon calling FPL, I was informed it was because of the letter sent to me last year regarding my meter can. I was not sent an email or given a courtesy call that they were going to cut my power. It was just shut off. Since then, I have been in touch with several people in the FPL project department. Ruthie Abily (ruth.[protected]@fpl.com) has been trying to assist me. The lawyer for our French Quarter Association provide me a letter they sent to FPL that they were already in the works of receiving a proposal to replace the entire can and to please reconnect power to my unit. I forwarded this email to Ruthie on Wednesday 3/2/22 and resent it from work on 3/3/22. I have yet to receive any more communication. Meanwhile, my property at 360 NW 69th Ave #201 Plantation, FL 33317 is still without power for over a week. I'm dismayed that the lack of concern for my family's displacement has not been addressed. What if we had an urgent need for electricity such as a hooked up oxygen machine? Then there's all the food in my refrigerator and the great inconvenience of having to relocate somewhere until this matter is resolved...and without any estimated time. This is completely unacceptable and I am wanting someone to contact me ASAP. I can be reached @ [protected] or via email [protected]@gmail.com. Thank you, Judith Diggs
Desired outcome: restored power and compensation for food lost due to cut power.
Excessive increase in kwh billed
I have been taking pictures daily of my meter readings and based on what that averages it is 15kwh daily. The current projection is showing me 41.5 avg daily kwh. I turned every off off on Jan 1st just to minimize any potential increase when FPL took over from Gulf Power. My highest kwh 855 yet my most current bill still with HVAC totally off and timer on H W heater was DOUBLED to 1652. How is that possible? We have no way on their horrible website to see our daily usage as we could with Gulf Power and I can’t even view prior bills….I can only see total amount. This company should be fully audited by an independent auditor and this crap needs to stop before the entire panhandle is homeless! I will be sending in documented proof of my usage once the next billing cycle is completed. Then I DEMAND ANSWERS. FPL is killing those of us on fixed retirement incomes! Shame on FPL AND NEXTERA!
Desired outcome: Independent audit and fire all those who allowed this to happen! You lie to folks to their face; we should not have to do such drastic changes to our lifestyle when we never had to before FPL
My power bill increased a third since they took over.Impossible to log in,web site is trash. They have a monopoly being the only power company.looking at solar, much cheaper.
My power bill and the monopoly based unjust rate increase!!!
It's so blatant that a monopoly, as yourself, can rape their customers with unjust rate increases as you have done to the people of northwest florida! My bill has been well over $100 and this last one closer to $200 more due to your levied rate increase imposed after acquiring gulf power. Wow, i've been an accountant in the business sector for decades and have never seen a business expect immediate profits from a merger or purchase of competitors assets before, but oh yeah, you'er a momopoly and don't have to compete in the american markets as all other business do. You arrogant dictators, and the lawmakers the sanctioned this rate increase should be disbanded and/or fined under anit - mompoloy laws. My support and prayers are with oh so many other good florida citizens that are fighting to make it happen!
Shame on you and the folirda lawmakers for allowing this company to make hardworking and fixed income floridians suffer for your disgusting ledger bottom line! Good people having to make a utterly life changing decision to not feed their families or freeze in the dark.
I wonder if your company is following the putin business model on screwing your people for power and profits.
With total antipathy:

Over charged bill
The thermostat has been set at 64 and no one living there. We bought the house July 2021 and bills till now have been ok. Now with no one living there the bill is $170.79.Prior months were inline with the normal. These charges are more than double of our normal charges.
Desired outcome: Please refund the overcharge and correct all future bills.
Your truck Drivers Speeding
I live in a neighborhood called Little Harbor in Deerfield Beach. Over the last few weeks your trucks have been in my neighborhood working. Problem is they are speeding in an out of the neighborhood around families walking the neighborhood. Last week I witnessed two trucks going way to fast into a corner and then this morning one of your drivers almost ran me down...exaggeration you say?! How about driving up behind someone walking their dog and getting within two feet of them with a huge FPL truck. I yelled at him to slow the F$@K down he yelled at me to get out of the f&*^ing street (we have no sidewalks and I was walking around a lawn truck parked in the road). This was about 8:50-9am
The license plate numbers is GA8849 and a tall guy with a trucker hat was driving. They are working on a telephone pole at 61 Little Harbor Drive Deerfield Beach Fl 33441. The plate may have been on the second vehicle.
Desired outcome: Video of the drivers cam that will show what he did or didn't do.
power bill
My bill keeps going up, surprise nobody lives in the home, it is for sale. There is no way an empty house with a brand new HVAC unit that is set on 64 is going $100.00 higher. Again the house is empty! The bills over the last 3 months have gone from $210.00 to $230.00 and now $329.00. I get no answer and have no way to talk to or email anyone about this.
my email is [protected]@aol.com
my phone # is [protected]
Desired outcome: I would like a way to get in touch with a human, your phone system will not allow it.
Very dark and dangerous street. No street lights close by.
I live on Schneider Drive, Fort Myers, Florida 3905, across from a preservation site with lots of trees and swamp water. There is no fence to keep large or small animals or snakes and/or reptiles enclosed and away from people. It is very peaceful during the day but when it is dark there is nothing to keep the fauna in their side of the road.
My son has already been attacked by street dogs once and had to be taken to the hospital for rabies shots. The problem is that there are no street lights where we live to the point that neighbors are installing their own electric posts and cameras for protection.
I wish to have light posts installed on this street. Part of the street has them. Why don't we? The lights stop at #119 and there are none to the end of Lake Caloosa Drive, which is a continuation of Schneider Drive.
Please let me know if I should start collecting signatures from the Neighborhood residents to lend emphasis to this issue.
Sincerely, Maria
Desired outcome: We need to feel save. We need lights.
Rates
Since the takeover from the previous Gulf Power my rates in the past 2 months have dramatically increased. What do you propose FPL that we keep the thermostat set at 30 in the winter and 150 in the summer? My bill has never been so high.
Desired outcome: Reasonable rates and explanation of how anyone can afford your service
Charged Late fee which is wrong and will not refund
I was enrolled in FPL Autopay program
On 1/13/21 notified bill was ready to view
2/3/2021 I was notified payment was returned
At this time I did not change anything on my account or change payment sources.
Within minutes, 2/3/2021 I logged into FPL account and processed the payment using the EXACT account that was pre-existing. Money was withdrawn and paid.
2/5 I contacted customer service, explaining the situation and they would not listen that there was an issue on there end, and I should not be charged. Customer service could not help nor was a manager available on weekends.
2/7 Called customer service, explained the situation, and they continued to state they could not do anything, and she clearly repeated to me that she didn't understand how that could happen. She escalated the case to Management for a call back.
2/7 Manager called, and looked through the situation, again stated they cannot remove the charge, but offered to create a complaint ticket, which she stated I would be notified of ticket. Email or ticket never came.
2/12 New bill notification, with $30 charge still affixed.
2/12 Turned off Autopay and will pay my bill manually less $30
2/12 Added new account to pay from, as to see if they have an issue with that account.
Desired outcome: I should not be charged $30 for their faulty system. I do not trust there Autopay anymore and have removed the service
My power bill
I'm complaining about my power bill. My bill is high at $418.00 which it shouldn't. My power bill went from $278.00 to 418.00. I don't use alot of fuel or electricity. Yes I'm definitely upset about that. My bill shouldn't be so high
Cannot get in touch with anyone in the construction department
I have been trying for over 2 weeks to get in touch with someone (human) to get power disconnected at the street on a home being demolished. This is the only thing holding us up. Ever since the merger, everything with this company has been an absolute nightmare, literally zero customer service at this company. When you finally do get a human, you get transferred to the construction department with literally no one ever coming to the phone, you just sit to white noise not knowing what is going on. Something has to be done.
Desired outcome: For someone to contact me immediately to get the power disconnected on this property so that the house can be demoed.
Consumer services
Recently Florida Power and Light took over Gulf Power. I was told to expect a rate increase, that being said I expected a 50 to 75 dollar jump in my bill. Imagine my shock when my normal 250.00 bill was now 644.00. The reason, fuel costs. I am not the only consumer in the Florida panhandle that is experiencing huge bill increases. Many folks are wondering how they are going to keep their power on.
Florida Power and Light has us over a barrel. There are no other options for electric consumers in the panhandle to choose from, this is a monopoly and they are taking full advantage of being the only provider in the Florida Panhandle. The response has been just be more conservative, good gosh my thermostat is on 68 already.
Desired outcome: Reasonable rates
Mine is totally turned off for 2 months yet my kwh doubled?
Panama City lifelong resident and never had such an issue as with FPL. Per FPL, customers that used less than 1,000 kwh per month would see approximately a $15 increase in bill. The highest kw usage in over 50 years was 690 kwh. The FIRST month that FPL took over our bill increased $76 with an extra 300 kwh used. This is simply outrageous, and clearly price gouging. Sadly, it is impossible to speak with a live human being. There are phone and computer options, but no real person. If you don't choose one of the programmed options, the call is ended by FPL. I've written my state representative and awaiting a response.
