unjustified treatment
Cashier Linda from Jewel Osco in Westmont, IL at 1831 today asked my friend to unzip her jacket during checkout. I'm not sure exactly why this was asked, but it made my friend and I feel uncomfortable, vulnerable, and singled out.
After giving it some thought, I was mortified that the only logical explanation I have for this irrational and awkward request would be that Linda suspected us of steaIing. I vouch for our innocence but regardless, I don't believe Linda should have requested what she requested. I understand her concerns as an employee, but I think that she could've approached this situation differently. Her request not only made us feel uncomfortable, but it challenged our integrity and character.
I hope this will raise an eyebrow or two, because I don't think anyone deserves to feel this way.
service at the deli/chicken counter
On 10/9/18 between 4:15 - 5 pm (not exactly sure of the time) I went to the deli to chicken in response to a homeless family's request for food. I was serviced by an older woman- Caucasian, blonde, could have been mid 50's-60's. Ordered a 12 piece asking if I could get half grilled/fried. She agreed as no problem & although I can't relay that she said anything specifically rude, there was an underlying "attitude" in her tone. She spoke in a "nice-nasty" patronizing manner. I didn't ask for certain pieces, but she insisted on relaying several times the limits for the # of pieces of each type that I would get. I just wanted 6 of each, it didn't matter to me. She put both types of chicken in one bucket, my fault for thinking that she would separate them. This employee has been there for quite a while and it's always the same "edge" with her, really just not what I expect at Jewel. I would have done better at Walmart. While cashing out I was grumbling to my grandson that the fried chicken would get soggy mixed with the grilled. The cashier overheard me and he asked what the problem was & I repeated. He agreed that no one likes soggy fried chicken, immediately tried to remedy my discontent, & was going to call the deli and ask for someone to bring the chicken separated. I declined but he demonstrated the type of service that I expect when spending my money. I hope that this doesn't appear petty- that's not the intent. I don't think that the Deli staff person was having a bad day, it's her usual M.O. I am not looking for any redress, just expressing a concern.
mistreatment
I was look for 1800 Tequila and while looking around I was singing to myself a rap. A Jewel employee walk up to me and told me to be quiet. I know I was not that loud. I felt like because I am African American/puerto rican that he picked me. I have never given Jewels or any other store a problem. I come in and get what I want and I go. I felt disrespected and it is bothering me that I was treated so badly. The employee made sure if and when i make a complaint about what he did that his name is Pete or Peter. I hope no one else goes through what I did. I will take my business somewhere else because I see Jewels and its employees are disrespectful to the African American community. Or that they hate rap, I dont know. I wish now that I would of recorded it and let the world see how Jewels treat their customers.
rude customer service
on September 30th, I went to jewels to return a 20 pack individual bag of chips. which I purchased a couple days before. I notice the date had expired on September 11, 2018. So I took the item back to the store and I told Connie at the customer service desk. I brought these a couple days ago and the date is expired. I would like to exchange and get another bag and I do not have the receipt. she was complaining about her busy day and all the customer at the service desk with problems. Connie didn't hear a word I said, she said you cant get your money back because they are regular price and they were on sale for 5.00 . I said I didn't ask for money but a replacement . She looked at me funny and I said whats the problem these chips are old. then she said get another one it took 5 minutes going back and forth with her . I got another bag and went back to desk and Connie still gave me a hard time . I told her I have the bag and wanted to verify the number of packages in the bag. she looked at me and said 18, I said ok mine had 20. I said only bag that has 20 in different flavor can I get it instead. She said yeah, I said thank you and begin to walk away. then connie said for future we do not take items back without the receipt( told me this about 3 times already, talked to me as if I were bagger on the street and needed that 7.00 which was the regular price ) Then she started all over again, Connie said I don't know how long you had these chips at home and im not giving you full price for these chips . I said, I don't want the money back i'm not a crack head running game for money. I told her first of all the item should not have been on the shelf for sale. she said no one rotated the product and I asked how was that my problem, I just took my item and left because I was not going to continue to entertain ignorance. I reported her grocery manger, as I was told store was not in, but he will report and speak with her. she was also rude to an employee who was helping a customer in line and connie told employee tell the customer to wait in line, when all she had to do was answer her question and not be rude to employee and other customer.

My Mother-in-law and I visited your location today to pickup a few groceries. Typically we really enjoy looking and buying the specials you have advertised. Mom decided to check the coffee ground prices and saw that the McCafe grounds she regularly uses were on sale for $7.99 versus regular $9.99. Of course, Mom picked up a 30oz can of coffee grounds.
We then proceeded to the register to checkout. We asked the cashier if he could do a price check on the coffee grounds to make sure they were on sale. The cashier had to page the grocery associate twice before he answered. As soon as we saw the associate in the coffee isle, we noticed that he just took the sale sign down and told the cashier it had expired.
Having many years of customer service experience, I would think a company would
rather honor posted sale prices, then upset a regular customer. Before leaving the store my Mother-in-law went to customer service to make them aware of the situation.

brew pub lotzza motzza frozen pizza
Jewel in Crown Point Indiana is the only place I can find Brew Pub Lottza MOTZZA frozen sausage pizzas. I bought 8 of them about 2 month's ago. We ate them all up. When I back yesterday to get more I see they no longer carry them. WHY? No one I could find could give me an answer. One of the main reasons I shopped at Jewel. Guess I will shop elsewhere now as Meijer is cheaper on other products. Thank you
rude employee
I was at the Jewel in Bartlett, Illinois on the evening of October 6, 2018 and I was having trouble with something. Someone was helping me, but he needed an override. He tried to call someone else over, but she ignored us three times, and went to help other customers while he was calling her name. I believe her name was Nina, and she was so rude and I was disgusted by her behavior with me and her co-worker.
ad
Jewel (Ela Rd. store in Lake Zurich, Illinois) has an ad in the local paper offering 5 12-packs of coke for the price of 3. Unfortunately, they only has 4 items in the store. When I went to check out, they charged me for 4 items at $5.99 each since I did not buy 5. I suggested that since they did not have 5 items, that They charge me $3.47 each which is what the per item price would have been if I had purchased 5 items and only been charged for 3. The acting manager would not agree to that but said that he would give me one item for free. That would result in a per item cost of $4.49 or over a Dollar more per item. I think Jewel should consider a hiring policy that managerial personnel have at least a high school education in order to understand and resolve problems that eventually com up.
customer service
Tonight 10/3/2018 at the store on Ogden ave. in Westmont Il I was so disrespected by a cashier.
After waiting in line for 15 minutes to check out (only 2 cash registers open) I paid for my items and was told by the cashier here let me push your items down so you
don't have to stretch for them. I proceeded to ask "you want me to bag my own groceries?" Was told, "looks like it there is no bagger here." Totally unacceptable customer service. Cashier did not put one item in a bag while ringing items. Not
understanding why a person was refilling bags and another refilling gum items and not bagging. For what I pay for food there, I should not be expected to be
bagging my own items or to be treated in this manner. If I wanted to bag my own
items I would shop at Aldi's. I might be doing this after November 1 when they open down the street from this location.
poor customer service
On 9/30/18 at approximately 7:00 PM, I was waiting in the checkout line at the Jewel-Osco (store 3349) located at 2520 N. Narragansett. The cashier was an African-American female named "Adiayaha." She remained completely silent during the entire checkout process and blatantly chose to ignore me when I greeted her with a smile & said: "Hi, how are?" When I placed my reusable bag on the counter, she just pushed it aside and proceeded to scan my grocery items. I only had 12 items, but this cashier REFUSED to bag ANY of my groceries. In fact, she insisted on just pushing all of my items to end of the counter while I paid with my debit card. She didn't even make an attempt to bag anything. I'm sorry, but isn't that part of this woman's job description? I mean, I've been shopping at this store for over 7 years and I've never had a cashier been so outright RUDE and LAZY. I guess I'll just have to take my business elsewhere.
manager
The lottery system are our $20 bill. We got in line and notified the associate. She said she would be right with us. After waiting 5 min my husband and I asked when she would help us and she indicated the line and the other customers in line were important. I told her we are a customer as well and the line keeps growing so at this rate we won't be helped. I asked for the manager and she indicated she was the manager. Carol had a bad attitude and doesn't treat her customers or other associates with respect. I witnessed her yelling at other associates and ignoring them when they needed help for a 21 purchase. Terrible woman who shouldn't be in customer service or a manager since she can't mentor anyone. We were finally helped after 15 minutes.
new check cashing and service desk employee
On Saturday Sept. 22 at approximately 10:45 am I was in the check out lane at the Woodridge (75th St) Jewel. I have shopped that store and wrote a check for the last 40 years every week. When I went to write my check it was over $300 which I was told needed to be approved. Fine...however, very slow getting any help from the store or front line manager. Finally they moved me to the service desk where the gentleman behind the counter ignored me and waited on other customers. When he finally got around to helping me he called to get my check approved...after waiting 15 minutes I left. No communication from the service desk about time of call just totally ignored me.
I live nearby and this was my store to shop in. I can't believe the rudeness of the staff, their total lack of caring about a customer and overall difficulty writing a check for groceries that I have been doing for many many years. The cashier knows me! A lot of the store knows me. Thanks to this incident I will be shopping elsewhere, I don't ask for much but considerate employees will always be at the top of my list.
scheduling of employees, treatment of employees
My daughter is an employee of Jewel, Osco in Clinton, IA. She is a high school with a very active with school schedule. When she interviewed she explained that she is involved in several high school activities and had asked if this would be a problem. They said no and we agreed to submit a calendar every month with her activities for the month on it. That worked out pretty well until they changed over to "corporate scheduling". Currently she is set up to work weekends only but does need the occasional Saturday off for band competitions in which the one who handles the scheduling has the a copy of the schedule. There is also three other students that work there that need these days off as well. As far as I know it does not seem to be a problem with them but for some reason my daughter seems to get scheduled these days. She has told the manager that needs these days off but she is told to call in. I have called her in myself and have gotten nothing but hell from Lynette Holden. I do not know how to make it any easier for her. I give her a calendar letting her know what days she needs off but she still gets scheduled anyways. So what is the point if your not going to look at it. I would think it would he a lot more work having employees constantly calling in and then trying to find someone to come in. Another big issue that seems to keep happening is she checks the schedule weekly but then it gets changed and after it comes out. No one calls to let her know so just yesterday she wasn't made aware that the schedule had changed so she didn't come in. She received a phone call/message saying she was supposed to be at work. This is not the first time that this has happened. I have seen this even happen with other employees as well. I have tried to stay out of these numerous on going issues but nothing seems to change. Please email me if you have any questions. I am more than happy to address these issues. My email address is [protected]@yahoo.com
deli department
On Tuesday 9/18/18 At 8:00 p.m. I was at the Jewel Osco, 1220 S Ashland Ave. in Chicago. Myself And another gentleman were waiting at the deli to be serviced. There were 2 ladies behind the counter, neither one looked up to acknowledge us. We stood there and keep in mind we were the only ones standing waiting. Another gentleman walked up and was serviced. After she serviced him (before us) she went back to sweeping the floor. After that I had to say something. That was utterly ridiculous to have us standing there w/o so much as a I'm sorry I'll be with you on a minute. When she finally did come the other man that was waiting walked away the young lady said absolutely nothing like I'm sorry for the wait. I usually don't complain but this needs to be addressed. Also the store had none zero non dairy creamer. This, especially at the deli is very unprofessional. I hope someone address this.

employee
My name is Tiffany Jenkins I am an ex jewel osco employee from
Jewel osco A901
3400 N Western Ave, Chicago, IL 60618
When hired I was told I would receive a 30minute uninterrupted break, it was in the Contract when I was hired. I contacted my union and told her I was not getting anybreaks, she did nothing to help me.
For one year and eight months I was employed through jewel osco and received NO breaks, I was threatened by an employee jayleen fontanez and nothing was done about that either. I was Threated by a shoplifter, I told them I did not want to work by myself in the store overnight without another employee or security and they did not care at all for my safety, August 10th 2018 I quit when I walked into the back to lock liquor alone I was confronted with a shop lifter loading up his bags and ran passed me out the back doors setting off alarms. Please do something about this store, I feel like I need to contact an attorney for this but I am contacting you (jewel osco corporate) first .

deli catering service dept..
On Sat 9/15 I ordered 3 Hawaiian sandwich deli trays for pick on Mon 9/17 a 12 noon from the 35th & King Drive store in Chicago. On Sat 9/16 I called to change pick up time to 11am.
Today I arrived to pick up my order n was informed my orderwasnt found. There were 4 people working the deli area. All of them were confused and looking at me as they told me no order was there for me..i asked to have the trays made n was told it takes more than 1 person to make them and some employees called off work. I insisted. The rays was made but they were dry and many didn't have any deli meat on them.
I am appalled n very disappointed in the attitude, lack of service at non- chalant demeanour of the deli workers. I felt disregarded and disrespected as a loyal Jewel customer.
I fully expect to hear from someone to compensate and apologize to me for this awful service n treatment.

parking
I normally shop at my local Jewel Osco at 8801 S Ridgeland Ave, Oak Lawn, IL 60453.
I am Disabled and I own a
Ram 3500 Dually 4 door crew cab with an 8' box! It is 22' long!
It is approximately 7' longer than the average car!
I have Disabled license plates on my vehicle and I try to park in an handicap van accessible space due to the trucks LENGTH! If I try to pull into a Regular Space (handicap or not) I would Stick out about 7' into the driveway.
This Wednesday I drove my Wife to this location, parked it in a Van Accessible Handicapped space and I waited outside as it was raining moderately. When an employee of The store (I assumed the man was the store manager) came up to me and told me that "I needed to learn how to park because I was taking up to much space" (well I was only in one space) I told him that I didn't have to shop at that store!
At this same time there was a handicap gentleman riding by on an electric cart OUTSIDE IN THE RAIN! He went all the way to the other entrance because he couldn't get by the cash registers where the carts are stored...
Looks like this store does not want US Handicapped people shopping at this store!
I may reconsider visiting this Store and Pharmacy and shop elsewhere from now on...
Thank you, I am yours truly Bob Cargill
jewel osco in south wheaton, il
Hello,
My name is Maggie and I've lived in Wheaton for over 23 years. That being said, I've shopped at jewel for the majority of those years. Usually I shop at the Jewel Osco in North Wheaton but yesterday I had some business near South Wheaton and needed to pick up a few things. I was incredibly disappointed with the way I was treated/talked to by multiple employees, one being a manager. I walked up to the service desk when I first arrived because I was having trouble with my debit card a few hours earlier. When I asked to purchase something to make sure it worked before I did the rest of my shopping, the manager/shift lead rolled her eyes and gave me a snarky response. As I proceeded to do the rest of my shopping I had a question about where the spoons were for the self serve soup. When I went to ask an employee they didn't even raise their head to look at me and pointed in a direction where the spoons were. Awful. I immediately left my cart and left the store. I will not be shopping at jewel Osco in Wheaton again. Horrible customer service. Rude and the employees do not care about their customers.
cashiers
Hello,
I often shop at Jewel and every week I buy 12packs of A&W diet cream soda (which is a favorite with my family). There is usually only 2-4 packs on the shelf so I've basically made a habit of buying them all. Sometimes there is a sale of 4 for $10 limit 8 and when that comes around I always get a raincheck because there is never 8 available. This is usually not a problem because I live close and don't mind going in weekly to buy whatever is on the shelf. Since there is only a few at a time cashiers usually change the quantity on my raincheck and let me keep it until its written quantity has been met...in my case we want 8 total but I end up going back multiple times getting only 2 or 3 per since that is all that is available.
Just today I was at store 3316 and my cashier Prashant refused to update my raincheck and said I can only use it once regardless of quantity. I explained that the reason you I have a raincheck in the first place is because the store doesn't have the quantity I'm trying to buy. There was only 4 on the shelf and I took them all but because my raincheck is for 8 then I expect a new raincheck for the remaining 4 so I can come back and get them, this is exactly what has happened to me many times in the past without issue...but this cashier, Prashant, made it an issue for me and stopped his line and turned off his light to call over his manager saying "we dont update rainchecks" and the manager lady was very rude and didnt even say hi, she just walked over and said "no, I've worked at jewel 40years and we never update rainchecks" as if she was talking down to a child and trying to make me feel stupid for even asking. I tried to explain to her that this happens to me often and previous cashiers have taken care of me because it's not my fault the shelf is empty. She just repeated "No" and told her cashier to "call grocery department" and walked away. So here I am standing in line with people behind me who are now looking at me like I'm a problem person and making me very uncomfortable just for trying to buy our soda. After a few minutes of standing there awkwardly the cashier asked me to stand aside and wait so he can help other people...I can understand needing to move your line but dont be rude and make me feel like I'm a problem when I'm already being singled out and having my time wasted. Eventually some person did find 4 more in the back room and I was able to buy all 8 but the overall experience was a joke. If the shelf is empty then why not just update my raincheck and let me leave and maintain the normal flow of the line. Is it worth it to unconvince me and everyone behind me while you send some person on a hunt in your back room? My time is valuable as well and I should not be pushed around or made to feel like problem. I am not an inconvenience to your cashier, they were the inconvenience to me and I will not go back to that store. There have been many othet cashiers at other stores whose name I wish I had to tell you how nice they are. But at least I can tell you about these people and hopefully save future customers from my experience.
Thank you,
Stasha Tapia

lean ground sirloin package hides brown meat inside
Earlier today (9.7.2018) I bought lean ground sirloin at the Evanston Chicago ave. branch. I requested the butcher to ground the meet for me but he refused, so I had to buy a package already made. Imagine my disappointment this evening when I found that inside the red meet where big chunks of brown meet with a bad smell. It's quite obvious that old meet was meet to fresher meet in order to give the impression that all meet was of high quality. Needless to say, I expect a full refund and compensation for a ruined dinner. I'm appending the receipt as well as pictures of the meet.
