During a checkout at Kohl's, I was offered a "department store" card by the cashier and a $20 discount. I thought it was a Safeway card style discount card. Big mistake! I entered some info on a POS device (address, phone, etc.) and the cashier promptly obtained my signature. When I saw the APR XX% on the form, I asked her if this was a department store card or a credit card. She said it was a credit card. I was shocked, I immediately refused the discount despite her insistence. She refused to cancel my application and told me to take the issue with the customer service. I was furious, she literally grabbed the application form and didn't give it back. Now, I'm trying to contact Kohl's with multiple letters to "know" if they issued me a credit card or not. I got a card in the mail, but I don't know if they charged me an annual fee or not. I do not receive any account information on this card, just the plastic card itself. I do not get any replies to my letters either. I will file a complaint with the Office ofAttorney General in California and report Kohl's to Better Business Bureau.
I am very outraged and very frustrated. I'm sending them letters requesting information if there is any balance on the card or fees and I make copies of the letters in case they try to charge me and I take them to court.
Kohl's employed deceptive tactics in this case:
1. Kohl's employee should have clearly told me it was a credit card application.
2. She should have cancelled the application on the spot upon my clear request (ie. destroy or give me back the application form with my signature on it)
3. I should have been given a document stipulating the terms of this credit card application. I don't even know what are the fees and conditions.
Beware of Kohl's deceptive and fraudulent tactics.
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
So how do you intend to pay for the purchase if they take if off the kohls charge? They will be looking for payment, also you can call the # on the card or the receipt to cancel the card right away and just pay the charge right off in the store with customer service. The card will be closed and you will never have to use it again, they advertise the sales and kohls charge all the time, what rock are you hiding under? And like the previous person said, you put in your ssn, that should have been a clear alert for you.
Agree with the two above me.
You obviously shop there, how could you not know that it's a credit card? Did you honestly think they were going to give you a discount on top of sale items?
Call the number on the back and cancel it. Simple.
When the cashier asks you if you would like to open an (insert store name here)card and receive a percentage discount on the merchandise today, they are talking about a credit card. Have you not been in dept stores before?
If you want to cancel the card, call the number on the back. If you charged anything at the time you opened it they will send you a bill. Pay it and be done with it. There is no finance charges if you pay off the entire balance.
And if you had already put all your information in, I'm 99.8% sure that the associate had processed the application when you decided to say you didnt want it. news flash it was TOO late, once the information is in all we gotta do is press enter and put our associate number, which doesnt take long. after your credit has been run and you have been issued an account number there is no cancelling the application, its already gone through. so just call the number behind the back and ask to close your account.
and you should stop writing letter and start picking up the phone and calling. nobody solves problems anymore by means of a letter.
