This review was chosen algorithmically as the most valued customer feedback.

Here's the gist of my complaint:

*Kohl's understaffs their stores... 15 people for a 88, 000 Square Ft Building. One... yes one, maintenance guy for the day and one at night.
*When employed, if they want to fire you, they don't... they just remove you off the schedule and give you less and less hours each week. (saves them unemployment $).
*Saftey violations everywhere.
*Aggressive credit card push... every 15-20 minutes over the loud speaker, telling you to open an account. Every morning in a meeting they emphasize credit, credit and credit... nothing about customer service. People are literally pushed in to opening an account.
*Sweatshop conditions... check out the website or cut and paste: http://docs.google.com/Doc?id=dfbq37h9_40g2wph3fd&hl=en, to check out the pictures for yourself...

Kohls gets less than 1 star for ethics, honesty and value. If you opened an account, simply call or contact them to close the account like I did. Kohl's Charge Card Customer Service Please direct any questions concerning your Kohl's Charge Card to this toll free number:

Kohls called me for a interview today for a customer service position and only had 1 available time and day to interview me which i can not make because of my father having surgery on that day. They would not schedule me for another day for their customer service positon. Doesnt seem like family and surgeries matter to Kohls as they cant be flexible enough to interview me any other day. I will not go to Kohls again... ;(

They're a business trying to fill a position. If you're not able to make an interview what can they expect when should you be hired? I know it seems cold but that is business. You must keep in mind that you are competing against the next guy for that job. I'm sure they're decent with such things with their employees that meet and exceed their expectations.

Go to their interview and then back to the hospital. Shows flexibility.

Recently I lost my job and was unemployed for 4 months. As we all know unemployment does not pay that much. There was also a glitch in the system so for the first three months I did not recieve any payment from unemployment. After explaining this to Kohls and explaing it to them over 50 times I finally began sending them payments of $35.00 per month. Kohls is now contacting me by email and vociemail up to 6 times per day. How insane!

Kohl's was absolutely one of the worst companies I have ever worked for. The management at the ***** Ridge store in Phoenix consisted of a bunch of illiterate and obnoxious degenerates. I only worked there for a few months, but it was such a terrible experience. They expect a ton from people that get paid crap ($8.00 an hour) and don't get any health insurance benefits. I wonder what the Kohl family up in Wisconsin thinks after they sold it to a bunch of corporate pigs. Terrible company! Stay far, far away!

Great products and tempting sales, but beware if you need customer service! My first experience in the customer service line was an extended wait because one poor employee was working behind the desk and answering the phones because, ironically, everyone else was running around the store in anticipation of a visit by the corporate staff.

Today's experience involved trying to exchange a defective product. Apparently, if the store is out, the online branch of the store is meaningless. So, although you would like an exchange for the same product that is still available online, it will cost you more if the item is no longer on sale. Apparently, there is an additional penalty if you had the nerve to use a discount coupon for the original purchase!

Sad when companies brag about their customer service when their store personnel are not even equipped to handle simples transactions like this.

@Cricket47: I don't know where you are or what location(s) you applied to, but I interviewed at Kohl's on 9/3/14 and was hired 9/5/14 as an overnight freight associate. I'm 51 years old. From what I've been reading here and on other employee review sites I most likely will have a horrible experience with Kohl's but I hope I can stick it out until I complete the administrative assistant program I'm in. Anyway, while I'm fully aware age discrimination is rampant, you may not have been hired at Kohl's simply because HR in that location felt there were no positions that matched your skills/experience. Frankly, I think the reason I was hired so quickly is that I expressed interest in the position and hours that few people want to work.

I have worked at Kohl's for almost 15 yrs now. Pay raise was only 1% which for me was 17 cents more an hours. They sure don't go by seniority and I wish they would. I still like working at Kohl's I just wish the hours were the same every week. We do have to push for credit and we only get 50 cents per credit if it's not on file already. Plus it's taxed so we are getting less. Not right at all and now we have to push for the Yes Rewards Card and don't get any money for doing that. We do so much as a cashier.

I currently work for Kohls and I HATE IT! When you are a NCNS or are late for a shift they are so quick to just give you points and be done with it. Why is it "corporate policy" to not call that associate to make sure everything is ok, or to make sure thAt they knew they were supposed to work? I was apparently scheduled to work a Monday night, which I never do usually because of my availability, but they decided to schedule for a Monday night. That was NOT what was on my schedule that they gave me to bring him, so of course I did not show up. Well come to find out, they had changed the schedule after handing them out, and decided to not hand out the new ones, or call and inform the people that would not be there before their next previously scheduled shift, to let them know that things hAd changed. So I got points for not showing up. T

Then there was an month where I had some family health issues that I had to take care of involving my mental Ill and disabled mother that was going down hill. I cAlled and talked to the 01 about it and she said it was no problem to deal with my mom. This was only a couple of days out of that month that I had to call out, so not the entire month and when it came time to do the attendance check, I was called into the office for a hearing. I had only one NCNS that I knew off at that time, and 3 call outs. Still not the allotted 12 points until termination. Well apparently, they had me in the books for 4 NCNS! 3 of which were not even mine! They had put them under my name "by mistake."

I swear this is the worst place to work and I so wish I was able to quit.

I, and many other part time employees who have stuck with Kohls and have been positive, hard workers, are finally getting appreciation for our many years of service by getting our accumulated vacation hours chopped way down and our personal days taken away. You would think that after seeing how employees come and go that they would want to show appreciation and thanks to dedicated, loyal, long time employees who have worked so hard for Kohls. Yes, it's too bad that newly hired employees don't get vacation but its like a slap in the face to us when we thought we were grandfathered in because of our many dedicated years of service. Thanks Kohl's for taking care of your employees. If you don't care about your dedicated hard working positive employees then good luck. This doesn't make a happy positive business but it sure makes the big guys richer.

Joan Dance, I agree with you completely. I have been with Kohls for 10 years and will now only receive 1/3rd of the paid vacation hours that I previously received. That equals 11 (6.5 hour) days of lost pay. This on top of the fact that last fall when a manager was looking for people to pick up hours, I was told I couldn't because my name gets flagged by Corporate for averaging too many hours. Apparently, Kohls wants to keep part timers under a certain number of hours so that they won't have to offer health insurance. So during the last Christmas season I only received about half the amount of hours I would have worked previous seasons. I lost out on alot of extra money for the holidays. I found out about the PTO change when I got the notice in the mail on Feb 3rd. When I went to work the next day, it was ironically Employee Appreciation Day. Corporate gave money to stores to get treats for their employees. My store brought in cupcakes. I guess that's how Kohls is going to show their appreciation from now on. I feel very unappreciated. Unfortunately, there's not a lot I can do to let Corporate know how I feel and they wouldn't care even if they knew. I feel torn because the managers and coworkers at my store are great, but I find myself with a very bad attitude about working for Kohls. I'm considering my options.

That is terrible what Kohl's has done to their loyal workers! I bet they wouldn't like money taken away from their vacation time that they earned from working years for Kohl's. That's how they were hired in knowing they would receive this and then to take it a way stinks! Make it right Kohl's! You're not hurting that bad.

Yes, that is terrible how we are being treated! I too am a long time employee who always thought that maybe Kohls cared a little about their employees, but boy was I wrong! So being we are getting the cut on our vacation and personal days means if you calculated and divided the amount we were losing throughout the year it means we have been demoted by about $1000. Depending on how many hours we work a year and how many years we have been there. Which means when I get my piddly raise that it will never be a raise because of our big loss. But hey atleast they have the money to send all the store managers to Florida. Also they make us take care of the customers by giving them everything but they could care less about their employees. Hey Kohl's when you care about your employees they feel appreciated and then they want to please and work hard for their employer. Which makes a successful business! But as we can see money wins over people. So sad!

Not happy. I've been stuck working at Kohl's for over 6 years now, finding it extremely difficult to find a new job. My first few years were great, I felt my manager respected us and was willing to help us when needed. You know, like a manager should! Then I moved to a new store, where one of the assistant managers was recently promoted, and things have gotten worse and worse ever since. No respect or recognition for those of us who work our ### off every day, not willing to work with us, and often acts like it's such a burden when she has to step in to help an unhappy customer. The most recent and extremely aggravating complaint is the hours. I don't know if it's actually a corporate policy, or if it's just my store manager finding yet another way to screw us, but we're no longer allowed to work more than 26 hours a week! I sincerely hope corporate is following these posts, and that they've done the math. In an effort to avoid benefits to part-time associates, you now have us living barely above the poverty level! Shame on you!

Hello,
I received a call to start Seasonal Associate orientation next Friday and am excited for the opportunity as I had been unemployed with our family barely making ends meet the past couple months. I hope by this time a lot of the posts I have read either gone away or changed for the better by corporate policy, if not hopefully in the near future! Here is to trying to keep things positive and in perspective.
Thank you

I have been working for Kohl's since March 2014. All I can say is that Kohl's really needs to get a grip on things for the sake of both their employees and their customers.

My location is understaffed, and this has only gotten worse as the holiday season progresses. We have only had the scantest amount of full-time employees and our turn-over for part-timers is so high. Combine that with only four hours of computer-based training and two-hours of buddy training (sometimes not event that), and you're left with associates that can barely keep the store running.
If an associate does stay with the store for any length of time, they will find that they will be doing tasks far outside what they were told they were hired for. Only associate on the sales floor and you work in such and such department, well you better believe that you will be doing nothing except running around answering pages for customer assistance and department calls.

We have such a problem with recovery. There are simply not enough people scheduled for us to pull the store together without the closing team staying past their schedule. And again, most of the associates present won't know how to get it done effectively.
I really don't blame the people who leave. Kohl's is quite misleading during the hiring process.
The associates who do stay eventually learn everything that has to be done while on the sales floor. Again, not because their trained, but because they were thrown in the shark tank with no other choice but learn swim, and swim fast. I really don't have much to say in regards to customers, because really, they are the same everywhere. It's just at Kohl's we lack the structure to keep at least some semblance of respect for the store. My location doesn't even have the fitting rooms labeled for men, women, juniors, boys, or girls. So, we have men that will walk into the women's fitting room because they followed the ambiguous sign in the race track aisle of "Fitting Rooms". Of course, that does nothing to keep our female patrons feel safe while trying on clothes and the men feel confused when we have to turn them away and point them to the opposite side of the store.
When we don't have enough associates to keep the racks looking neat, the customers are less likely to feel the need to pick up and item they dropped while looking through the clothes. The same goes for toys, shoes, and home. When the merchandise can't get picked up, it only going to get exponentially worse until the area just loses traffic because it is so unshoppable. By the time management decides to put together a blitz team, the recovery it through the roof and it takes so much longer than if we were allowed to regularly have associates to run through the departments.
On the subject of management, the location I work at has also had major turn-over in the supervisor and management positions in the last year. Including a GM who has been with us around five months. Now, the loss of familiar leadership really shattered the moral for the associates and the productivity was not surprisingly affected. In addition to that, our new GM introduced himself in a way that could have been done so much better. Not only does he alienate himself from the non-manager associates by giving no effort to talk to or instruct us when he's on the sales floor, but when he does, he uses the most vague communication imaginable. On top of that, he goes out of he way to be unrelating and give excuses to not understand associate requests. Saying things such as, "I guess it's because I don't have kids, but I just don't understand why your mother needs you for three weeks. I just can't authorize that time off. You will just have to quit and reapply when you get back." Obviously, that relates to a specific situation. Now, the point of bringing that up isn't to say the time off should have been approved or not. What's so hard about simply saying, "I am not authorized to approve that amount of time." ? He could have done the same thing without questioning the validity of someone's personal situation. And a lot of the management is like this, so it must stem from the MiT program. Somewhere Kohl's says it's okay to treat their workers as if they have no other other aspect to them than their employee ID. So much for "work/life balance".
On a more personal note, I was recently given a promotion for something called "replenishment supervisor." There reason I put it in quotes is because even though I have been doing the work and learning the job since September, I have since learned that it is not full-time like I thought it would be and my rate per hour hasn't changed yet to what I was told it would be. Upon telling this to the GM, he told me he already knew and that any historical-pay I get would be from November. It is only 2 weeks into November. Clearly, something isn't right. I honestly don't think the position is even worth it anymore from all the issues going on just to get it implemented.
What's sad, is that if we managed to get these problems dealt with (fat chance that happening, I know), Kohl's would be a much better workplace and our customers would have a better shopping experience.
I'm putting my two weeks notice in this month and leaving before December fully sets in.

They are a bad company to work for I didn't last two long. The pay was minimum wage, the hours were all over the place inconsistent. One week you get lots of hour next week you don't get any hours. The store is always understaffed. I've had days where I'm juggling five departments at once. Turn over rate is really high I've seen at least 15 people before me quit including full timers. Part timers no longer get any benefits. Customers destroy the store and its never cleaned due to being understaffed. All they care about is credit which hurts the company if you ask me and payroll was constantly cut due to not meeting daily credit and sales goal, but only the part timers suffer which is 95% of the staff. Your better off working at Walmart. The depressing thing about the store I worked at is the people I worked with were really nice, but a lot of them were kinda stuck there and have been stuck there for a long time and can't quit unless another job comes up.They can't afford to go unemployed. Keep in mind that every store is like this it almost like a company policy.

I have been with Kohl's for three years. I have no complaints about management but I do have issues with the schedule. We are supposed to have three weeks of schedules up at once. I would really like to know if/when I'm working next Sunday, Dec. 6, but I have no clue. None. Probably five times only have I seen three weeks up at one time. I even called the number our LP finally found for me (shouldn't it be in the break room?) to complain, but no change. Kohl's has also recently implemented a way to access your schedule online. Well, it rarely works. Rarely.
I also want to echo what has been said about understaffing. Customers complain that floor associates aren't as quick to respond as they should be, and that affects the store's customer service score. Well, guess what? That's Kohl's fault--they dictate payroll and scheduling and if there's not enough money for people, of course there will be complaints. It's not an associate's fault. And I rarely ask for credit anymore since I found out management gets a nice bonus based on that. And we get minimum wage.

I made an account just to contribute. I could've written a lot of these comments I've seen. Even the ones from over five years ago; they are so spot on. I started working at Kohl's and October this year and I hated it from practically day one. I stuck with it because I'm trying not to quit my job too soon and build up some resume (and some money), but I really cannot stand how the store is run! Understaffed constantly, like everyone else says, credit credit credit all the time, messy store because no one has time to fix anything because we're all too busy handling recovery BECAUSE NO ONE IS ON THE FLOOR. I was called to handle problems from the next department over two days in a row because no one was working in that department at that time. Now I can maybe understand having one person but NO ONE? Like how do you have these gaps in the schedule, this is so unprofessional. I laugh every time the seasonal employment announcement comes on talking about "you'll have a flexible schedule and competitive pay." The first time I heard that I said to myself Minimum Wage is NOT competitive pay! And I have to stay for a year to get a 30 cent raise? Please. And they're not very understanding of scheduling, either. One time I was scheduled for over 35 hours a week when I had asked for 25, and I took it to the manager and she acted like I was inconveniencing HER for something THEY screwed up in the first place! Hours are up-and-down and all over the place which is not really a problem right now, but next semester when I'm in school full-time, I'm not gonna have time for that and I'm going to need a more consistent schedule. So I'm looking for another place to work starting tomorrow and I'm considering putting my two weeks notice in the next time I work. I don't want to get trapped there. To future Kohl's associates, Get Out while you still can. It's not worth it, other companies pay higher.

Jesus Christ I saw this on the news today
http://www.cnbc.com/2015/12/15/kohls-to-stay-open-more-than-170-straight-hours.html

I thought the whole 100 hour was a bad idea, but I never thought that they would go past that. I feel sorry for the workers it like they are trying to compete with Walmart expect Walmart pay mores and his staffed. I bet you that the CEO is probably off while his worker suffer.
Kevin B Mansell must be getting desperate and is willing to punish the employee because his company isn't making any money.

OMG. Yes! I can relate all these comments. I have worked at Kohls for almost 10 years now. Why I stay...I must be insane. But I wasn't before I started working there. Yes, understaffed to the point of insanity. If you refuse to even put one person on the floor for the first hour, then don't freaking open the store until you can staff the store appropriately! JC! No common sense, the management, both local and corporate, are clueless "yes" men and women who only care about themselves and getting their stupid bonuses at the end of the year. Customers just go nuts and rage because there's no one on the floor to help them. I don't blame them. And then, we get reemed when our customer service scores are crap. Well, duh! How exactly is that OUR fault? Kohls is so freaking cheap--old computers in the office, software is ancient, slow and useless and they don't put the necessary programs on all of the computers because they are too cheap to pay for it, so we have to fight over the machines to get our work done. Stupid! The RFs and printers and every other piece of equipment is old (really old) antiquated junk that never works and then, again, we get crapped on when we don't get things done on time! SEriously, invest in some decent technology and watch us soar! And don't ask for anything new or even enough of the equipment you need to perform your job--you'll get branded "difficult and a complainer" even though they're constantly holding meetings and taking surveys and asking you how they can make your job easier and more efficient. It's a joke. Oh, and the biggest laugh of all is how they coach us on how to fill out the yearly associate surveys that basically rate the company and our management team. LOL. They tell us what to say and not to give low scores...you've got to be kidding me...adding insult to injury. Honestly, it's no way to run a store or a company. The managers are absolutely terrified of the corporate gumbies. I do like the people I work with. But, geez, the company is SO arrogant and tone deaf and cheap. I could list a million ways they work to make our jobs harder but in the end, while it feels good to blow off steam, nothing is going to change. ANd they wonder WHY they are bleeding out...maybe you should ask the worker bees and we could teach you a few things. Start with valuing your employees more. A little kindess and common sense goes a long way! CHeers!

do you not check your bank account to see if your payments have been taken out. i strongly sugest you do this cuz kohl's is not the only retailer that will charge you if you dont pay correctly. so tell us did you think that if you made and error, kohls would spend their money tracking your bank account and investigating the right number or w/e. nooooo ok they will simply think that the numbe you gave was correct and that you didnt have funds or something.

I just now canceled my account among many other unhappy Kohl's customers I've been finding online,

- When I went to pay my bill online, I plugged in my routing number and acct number perfectly and the site said my payment went through.
- a few weeks later I received a bill saying I still owed that amount plus a returned check fee!
- when i called about their mistake, the 2 people in customer service were USELESS and they said that my routing # and the last 4 digits of my acct # they had on file was right and they refuse to pay the returned check fee from the bank. They think it was my bank's fault.

-Even if there was an error in tranferring funds from my bank to their company, they never let me know which is ridiculous. I had plenty of money in my account.
-DO NOT DO ONLINE BILLING WITH THIS COMPANY! THEY WILL RIP YOU OFF DUE TO THEIR NEGLIGENCE!
--NEVER EVER WILL KOHLS GET A PENNY FROM ME EVER AGAIN!

kohls is the worst place i have ever worked... they allow their managers to discriminate, to disrespect, to harass, to retaliate, to belittle and treat their employees with little or no dignity and they have have a policy of diversity in place for WHATTTT? they have an integrity hotline in place for what ? for show because i have personally worked in two stores where i myself watched the 01 get the complaints from those hotlines and laugh them off and talk bad about the associates he thought may have placed them! many times i have considered an attorney because...best practices...please...they wouldnt know what that was if someone smacked them with them. these managers laugh at people make fun of people, read peoples personal files from locked cabinets to entire store ( against the law and store policy mind you) do yall think mansell does a thing or integrity does jack ...NOPE.. just made these store areas and managers even more fierce toward us all. ugh, it sickens me

The way Kohls pushes credit cards its similar to Wells Fargo double account scam or Wolf on Wall Street! Thier one guy in our store opens ten a day really! However they train you lie Would you like open a rewards card were you can save up 75 percent not a credit card. Some seniors thinks its a rewards card like Yes 2 rewards and agree to sign up. They are getting dupe our store mgr gets a bonus and Thanksgiving we get rotten bananas and bagged oatmeal, burritos she had deal with people she took the day off and black Friday of course . No Christmas party or thank you for working during holidays from her she stingy and greedy they promised gift cards for opening two credits then jump three . Finally your told were all out because mgrs signed out and used the gift cards on themselves! The corp exe don't give grease monkey about anything except credit and hire young students easier to control. Your pressure to open credit over the mic, and under hire people cal out everyday. We get ten cents for each credit open solicit credits is crazy dept stores give more money and don't pressure tactiles no selling just credit!
