As a person who is very concious of my credit score, EVERY single card I own is set to Autopay with either the entire balance paid off or a set amount with every statement. I rarely check my card statements each month knowing that the account is on Autopay. With that being said, this is the 3rd time Kohl's has cancelled my Autopay setting on my account causing my account to go into delinquent/ collection status which causes my credit score to tank.
As of late, I rarely use my Kohl's card because well, everything is so expensive. This past Cyber Monday sale I decided to buy some Christmas gifts. Again, thinking that my card is set to autopay I didn't check the online statement. It wasn't until I got an alert from my credit monitoring service that I had an account reported in deliquent status when learned that it was my Kohl's card... again! After the 1st time (2 years ago) this happened I called customer service and was told it was probably because of their new system update. I was told that I need to make a payment right there on the phone with a credit or debit card. I asked the rep if he could unlock my account so I could pay online since I don't like to give my debit card number on the phone and was told no, my account cannot be unlocked until I made a payment. So I gave him my info and was given access to my account again. 2nd time (about 1 year ago), I called customer service to see why this has happened again and got the run around. Each person I talked to said "oh, you have to talk to this department xxxx" then I was transfered, next person gets on the phone and it was the same thing. After being transferred multiple times, not a single person could tell me why or who took my account out of Autopay. The other frustrating thing is, there is no communication what-so-ever from Kolh's to let me know that my account is past due. Not a phone call, text nor email. When I was on the phone with customer service they kept telling me that I should have gotten calls in an attempt to collect. I told them that I have not received any calls and asked if they could provide a log of when they tried to contact me and was told they don't have that information. Isn't that a requirement before a company could report you to the credit bureaus?
When I tried to log on to see my statement, upon opening the webpage, there was an error message that I am locked out of my account for 2 hours due to too many failed login attempts. This has been happening for the past 2 years. EVERY time I try to log into my account I have to use the "forget password" option because it doesn't recognize my password (saved) or I am already locked out.
This time my credit score dropped 83 points! I am beyond upset since my credit has been spotless for years and the 3 times it dipped was because of Kohl's. The balance each time were minimal but with all the late fees and inflated interest rate the new amounts were more than doubled. I kick myself for keeping this account open just so I could retain the lenght of credit history only for it to have a negative effect.
Everything about the business practice of Kohl's credit card is fradulent and unethical. It's like they do this on purpose so they could inflate the interest rate and charge late fees. I am also sure that they take rarely used accounts (like mine) out of autopay for the same fradulent reason! As soon as my payment clears I will be cancelling this card. I refuse to do business with a company that punishes customers for trying to pay on time.
Desired outcome: Report to the credit bureaus that my account is in good standing and retract the negative marks!
