My name is Ida Goodspeed and I am almost 80 years old. I’m a very good citizen, honest, spiritual and always believed in helping others. My credit score is perfect. I love shopping at Macy’s. I was in very good health, with a good solid mind. I was doing normal things everyday, such as, exercising, dancing, etc. I just loved life!

Then my life was turned upside down. Worse of all the doctors did not know what was wrong with me. I am writing this complaint to you praying that you will read, visualize and solve this horrible problem for me. I have been suffering with this unknown problem for approximately three years. Thank God I am still alive!

This is my Complaint: I purchased a Stern & Foster mattress from Macys on October 26, 2019. I was so happy I was finally able to buy a New Mattress! The mattress was delivered November 6, 2019. I slept in the bed a few nights, but it felt like my old mattress…lumpy on my side.

In mid November, out of the blue I was in my room, got up, went to the bathroom, came back to get in the bed. I started shaking, jerking, teethchattering, Terrible headache, throwing up, lost control of my bladder, foaming by the mouth, etc. and passed out. I woke up in emergency at Kaiser hospital in Fremont, CA. I stayed there a few days before being sent home. Thank goodness my daughter was at my house at the time.

The doctors were perplexed by my symptoms, because no one had heard about Covid at the time. It was awful; I couldn’t even go to the doctor due to Covid restrictions. Even though I had most of the Covid symptoms I was told to rest with medication. I was taken to Emergency at hospitals & doctors appointments all throughout 2019, 2020, 2O21,2022, 2023 & my lingering symptoms are still present. I am not well! Every time I went and still go to the hospital, I have basically the same symptoms, especially these headaches. I had a life.

I can’t really go anywhere because of my unpredictable bladder, terrible headaches, dizziness, etc. I can’t even talk for five minutes without feeling like I’m going to pass out from lightheadedness. I was so sick, my daughter had to move in with me. Then she lost her job, due to layoffs, so she has no income. Even though she became a Realtor, it is so slow these days, she still has no income coming in from that. And we are really struggling here.

One morning, about a month ago, I had a revelation/holy spirit, which told me that all the symptoms that I’ve suffered from was Covid. Therefore, my conclusion is my symptoms derived from the new mattress I purchased 2019.

After explaining carefully to Macy’s customer service what I needed I got no help or compassion whatsoever! I called to have an inspection done on the mattress. The inspector said nothing was wrong with the mattress, even though he just pushed on it with his hand about 3 times. He came to inspect the mattress and because the mattress was stained he didn’t do anything or check anything regarding my problem. He finally told me that he was not the inspector for what I needed and he would report my problem when he returned to the office, but I have not heard from Macy’s as of yet. I definitely need a new bedroom set + mattress! Everything had to be distroyed in my bedroom. I had to have all the carpet in my home.

I really appreciate your time, compassion and understanding regarding this matter. I did try to complain to customer service re. this problem,,I wrote a letter to the Corporate Office in NY CEO. Did not hear from anyone. I put the letter in the mail so not sure it got there. Later a woman , Sue Mehlberth called and told me they would send my money back for the mattress but could not pick up old mattress. She was Cold as Ice, did not ask any questions about my health. I was so shocked and hurt. I have been shopping at Macys for many years. She treated me like trash as if I did something wrong.
