I placed and order with majicjack on 2-22-09 and cancelled it the same day, just an hour later because of misleading terms in their advertisement. Originally they said that my card would be charged on 2-23, but since I cancelled on 2-22 I didn't worry.
Well they did charge me on 2-22 and made my account overdrawn. It seems like the only way to talk with these people is through a chat line. Listen to this, they claim there is no phone no. I can call and talk with a life-person.
They have sent me an email with the cancellation, but I can not get them to reverse the charges at the bank so I can recuperate the bank fees.
I have chatted with 10 different people, I got all their names, and still can't get anything accomplished.
Originally it was a 30 days free trial before they charge my card, then, because I gave them a debit card instead of credit card they would charge me rather way. What is all this about. Can't they just reverse the charges at the bank and get all this all over with?
10 people and I can't get nothing accomplished? And they don't have a phone No. i can call and talk to a real person? Come on, what kind of company are we dealing with here?

product worked find for two days then would not let me call out, when i tried tec support (3 times) they just told me to unplug it and try again. Then when i tried to fill out the form to return it
conveniently there is no box for my email address which is require to receive an RMA to return this garbage. you got it
and you have to keep it. Does the word fraud come to mind?
Oh yeah! Someone should stop these crooks now

I have a majic jack and i just love it.
It worked 1st time no software to load no problems.
Keep in mind you have to have a very fast internet or it will skip and you will lose calls (dont use wifi) although i do sometimes and it skips so overall for the price i paid im happy. i wish people would stop complaining. If its technical support you need (someone to hold your hand) forget it, that drives up costs go to a forum and figure it out yourself. Or go to vonage pay the big $$ like all those suckers out there.

I was really excited about this product when I first heard about it. So, I ordered it and it never came. That was back in March of this year. In April I chatted with someone online and she supposedly sent me another majic jack. That never came either. Well, now it is August. I have a very busy life and I have not really had the time to call. One thing they did not have a problem in doing was deducting the $39.99 out of my account after the 30 days. That part worked like a charm. Not so well on my end.

After placing order and receiving confirmation email with information for contact to cancel or change order, when I tried to reply a return email indicates the email address that they told me to reply to is NO LONGER IN USE?

Seems something is wrong here!

I placed an order last night late and used my debit card. I didn't actually send in that order and changed my mind to a lesser order and put it on a credit card so that I would not be charged until the 30 day tryout period. It was late, so I turned off my computer and went to bed. I had not looked at it again until this afternoon when I found out that they had supposedly already shipped the more expensive order and put it on my debit card and had cancelled the less expensive one on my credit card. I sent a complaint about it and also received an email that said that email was not longer working or something. I tried to find a phone number to no avail, but was able to "chat" with someone on line who completly avoided my question about a telephone number that might be available to actually talk to someone. He said the only thing that could be done was to cancel my order, which I told him to do. I will contact my bank tomorrow about not honoring the withdrawal. I will wait to see whether the product will arrive and go from there

I purchased two majic jacks after watching a commercial on tv for the product and it said you could return it if you were unhappy. I bought them for my mom who lives out of town. Come to find out after I recieved them, she has satellite dish and they do not work with satellite dish. So, after I returned home from my moms out of town we had a hurricane that knocked our power out for almost one month. After that, it took me another month to get my cable internet back working. Since there is no information on the package about how to return this majicjack I just had to wait until I could get back on the internet and look for a site. I did find several. I went to the official site and asked a live operator how to return it, he gave me a web site address. I went to the web site address and could not get any information on how to return at all and finally after looking for as long as I could, I gave up. I tried again, knowing how quickly things change online I went a different route and googled something and got lucky and was able to get a site that said I could fill out an RMA form and this would be the only way to obtain a refund only to be told by the live operator that since it is beyond 30 days I can not get a refund. It does not say anywhere all sales are final. What can I do from what I understand, these people are ripping off others left and right too. I have not opened the package where the majic jacks are contained. Only the envelope was opened. There is no reason not to give me my money back. I explained to the guy the hurricane was not my fault and restoring power to our cities that were hit by this hurricane has been a nightmare for all of us. We have lost enough money this year without getting ripped off by these people too.

We have tried countless times to fix the issues we are having. We have talked with literally all levels of technical support. Technical Support is not even upset when you tell them that you are sending it back.

Service is intermittent at best. Many times, Magic Jack has on many occasions dropped phone calls or puts the call on hold and then drops the call. The software will not allow you take the call off hold.

If a third person calls, the call is automatically turned into a three way call.

Many times, you dial the number after getting a dial tone and it will dial and then there is silence.

Many, many times the calls clarity is so bad that the other person gets frustrated trying to talk to you.

We have moved the software & device to a separate computer and still the problems persist. We have made sure that the base of the phone is not anywhere near any other electrical devices.

We have restarted the software, unplugged the device, reformatted the device, downloaded updates, switched USB ports, restarted the computer, changed options in security settings and various other Windows XP options per technical support. I would like to add that my husband is an MCSE and has various other certifications as well and has tried repeatedly to work with the technical support.

It is my understanding that Magic Jack doesn't have a telephone and not even in the detailed license agreement is there a phone number or address. Through research, we found that MajicJack is owned by YMAX.corp.

There is also a complaint on [redacted].com. The number of the report is 320581.

The Better Business Bureau in Florida has had over 280 complaints in 6 months and has launched an investigation. www.wptv.com/content/investigate/story.aspx?content_id=57BCE2BD-41BF-47E9-9FBD-CEE879D2D64C

It is also my understanding that the product is actually in beta 3 testing and has not actually been around for the two years the "cute" advertising says.Magic Jack has only been available since 1/2017.

Magic Jack.com has an Editor's Choice endorsement from PC Magazine, but I had a hard time finding it, because the company is called YMAX Corp. PC Magazines site also has a statement "DO Not Buy Magic Jack".(www.ymaxcorp.com)

Daniel Borislow (owner) says he invested 17 million in the product and has 20 years in the telecommunications industry. I suppose he is working getting his 17 million back by hook or crook! S.J. Labs developed the software for MagicJack and by affiliation should be included in an investigation. (www.sjlabs.com)

See magic-jack.pissedconsumer.com also has some choice comments about the quality of Magic Jack.

Yes I strongly agree that Magic Jack is a rip-off! We bought 4 of them for our office and they work very poorly. Installation also installs secret monitoring files on your computer. The speed of the network reallly slooooows down when in use too. It's a piece of crap!

My MagicJack decided to quit working and the is no support or way to contact them. Their website says talk to a live agent 24/7 but all it does is send you to some canned results and the results how-to that shows you how to 'fix' your issue does not work.

I would recommend everyone to think twice before purchasing this device.

majic jack I purchased was returned.I used the replacement and had identical issues.Cell phones can call, but land lines cannot.hours & hours on
"chat", with no satisfactory results (in fact, no results at all!), I have come to the conclusion that, I have become the victim of a scam! Years ago, I invented
a remote car start device, .Conciquently F.a.a/F.c.c. & various other govornment run factions put stipulations and constraints on a simple idea, that it made it impossible fo a simple citizen to develop an idea.Mine, was a working device that was later developed and marketed as a very profitable venture.
I know how to make a working usb telephone device.I know alot of things. If you are reading this, I know alot about you.I am a humble man, who can
change the way of the world, but you won't let me.Not now!

This product was a waste of time and money. It worked poorly for two months and then stopped incoming calls. Majicjack's solution was for me to change my number, which defeats the whole purpose of having a second phone number in addition to my cell phone.

I have contacted the Attorney General to complain about this company because there is no published phone number to call and speak with an American, only their outsourced chat help.

well I hate to say told you so, but if you let someone sell you an offer that seems too good to be true, that's because it is! come on, reliable phone service anywhere in the U.S for less than $20 a year? Did you also believe Anna Nicole Smith lost all her weight on Trim Spa?

MAJIC JACK IS PLAGUED WITH INFERIOR PERFORMANCE AND THE WORST TECHNICAL SUPPORT I HAVE EVER EXPERIENCED. i AM A PROFESSIONAL WITH OVER 30 YEARS EXPERIENCE IN THE COMMUNICATIONS INDUSTRY AND I HAVE NEVER EXPERIENCED SUCH A FLAWED PRODUCT. THE INITIAL CONCEPT HAD IT BEEN PROPERLY TESTED BEFORE HAND COULD HAVE BEEN GREAT, BUT AS IT IS "STAY AWAY". I WOULD NEVER RECOMEND THIS PRODUCT AS A REPLACEMENT FOR YOUR MAIN TELEPHONE NUMBER. IT IS NON FUNCTIONAL MORE THAN FUNCTIONAL. TECH SUPPORT IS DISASTEROUS. DO NOT LISTEN TO THEM WHEN THEY START HAVING YOU GO INTO YOUR MAIN SETTING OF YOUR COMPUTER. THIS WILL GET YOU "FROM THE FRYING PAN TO THE FIRE". MAJIC JACK STAFF WILL ALSO NEVER REPLACE THE PRODUCT, THEY WILL KEEP SAYING THAT IT IS YOUR COMPUTER'S PROBLEM I HAVE INSTALLED AND TESTED OVER FIVE SEPERATE BRAND NEW MAJIC JACKS IN FIVE SEPERATE LOCATIONS AND ALL BASICALLY HAVE THE SAME ISSUES. YOU CANNOT BREAK DIAL TONE AFTER IT'S BEEN IN FOR A FEW DAYS, WHEN YOU CALL A NUMBER THAT IS BUSY IT WILL JUST DISCONNECT YOU WITHOUT GIVING YOU A BUSY SIGNAL, SO YOU HAVE NO IDEA WHAT OR WHY IS DISCONNECTING. MOST FRUSTRATING IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO CONTACT A LIVE INDIVIDUAL ABOUT TECHNICAL PROBLEMS. YOU GET EXACTLY WHAT YOU PAY FOR. CHEAP AND UNRELIABLE.

This piece of crap is not all that it is cracked up to be on their sales pitches on TV or the web. I had tried for over two months to get it to work only to find out finally after three different chat people that it does NOT work with a satellite service which is what I have. I inquired why that isn't put on the package along with the other required equipment BEFORE a person buys it? The manager stated that I didn't qualify for a replacement since I didn't purchase it online. I said what good is a replacement when this one doesn't work? DUH. I will attempt to return it to Walgreens and get my money back and in addition file a complaint with the BBB. What a ripoff?

My grandfather bought the MAJICJACK after seeing the advertisement on television. Once receiving the jack, it did not work for him. So he called the helpdesk and they started talking about maybe it needed a repair and it may cost more then what he spent to purchase the jack to began with! He sent it back to the company address with a letter asking for his money back, after all it had a money back guarantee for what ever reason. Soon after that he received a statement from his bank showing that on 2 different debits and weeks apart from each other where they had taken 23.00 and then again another 79.00. Thats way more then the fee he was told tax, shipping and delivery included. What's going on? Since he sent everything back he has nothing but one contact number that is completly automated and no one to help us. He deserves his money back and the company needs to be more aware of every aspect of how they are truly screwing people over, all of these problems are not an accident or slip of the finger. They robbed my grandfather!

I perchased Magic Jack (MJ) at one of the Best Buy outlet in CA during my visit to US. After getting back from US i installed it and it worked fine initially. I use it in my laptop and obviously unplug when i travel. Three weeks back it suddenly stopped working. i visited their web and find update for Window 7 which never worked. and i talked online with one of their agent, he asked to do this and that..install some thing...and gave up and pass to higher level...the prob was solved using the remote assitance. After three weeks..the problem was back...the softward displays "starting please wait"..and all my stored contct is gone..i hooked up with their agent again..same thing..do this and that...install this.. there was a huge wait in between...after two hours of waiting...i was told okey "come after few hours". I have bought a huge problem. Magic Jack is a Crap..with the wrost costomer service...avoid it.

I bought two majicjacks in 2017. I used one and renew it last year in 2017. This year I learned there are Canadian number available. I knew there is a 10 dollars a year charge to use a Canadian number. I also knew I can change my number for the first time for free.
I contacted an agent through a live chat.
She told me to extend the license first and then I can change my number.
When I wanted to change my number I realized I am charged 4.95 USD for changing it in addition to the 10 USD yearly fee for using a Canadian number. I protested but I was told the change was implemented this January. Normally (in a normal business) this should apply only to new customers not to existing ones. I was sent to read the terms and conditions and also explained it is a system generated thing and it can not be tampered with from the Customer Service desk. I wanted to cancel my service then. Guess what? Even if I payed for extending the license just minutes before, I was told it is impossible to cancel it. The same explanation, it is system generated and customer service reps can't do anything about it. Can you believe that? You buy something and just minutes later, without using it, you can't return it. With today's technology they can't actually reimburse your payment. What a joke of a company. They probably just take 5 dollars here and there counting on, that people will not start a law suit for so little.
The product works ok. Not great but OK. I am not sure that the hassle worth the savings. It still costs 2.50 USD per month and for 5$ you can bundle your phone with an existing plan.
Well, I hope this will help people in making a decision.

Magic Jack also took an unauthorized payment from my bank account. I filed a complaint with BBB, logged a dispute with my bank, wrote Magic Jack and canceled my order. I have yet to receive the $90.85 refund and/or the Magic Jack.

Below is an edited version (I was made and spelled a lot of words wrong and I deleted the case numbers for privacy) of a transcript with Magic Jack CS. Please take the time to read it and decide for yourself. You can tell how long I was on hold too!@! Just skip past that first little part. Heretofore I had enjoyed using MJ even though I had issues...but study the hoops you have to go through and read the EULA and then decide for yourself if it is worth it. It is cheap or is it in terms of what your give up or if you ever have a problem. The transcript was "trucated" because I was told to click on a link and run a "speed test." I did so even though I am running a quad core with 6 G RAM. At that point my computer froze up and I lost over an hour and a half of wasted time!

Anyway, it is long enough.

Amor: Hello, how may I help you?
John : . PLEASE send me a new unit. I have had nothing but problems with this unit for quite some time. I spent a LONG time on the phone with a tech agent who finally helped me get the unit to load up and start after I had to put an icon in the startup file. It has poor quality audio and now it has completely erased my contact list and screwed up printing an email (when I shut off magic jack the printer worked fine)...I do like it otherwise but this has now gotten out of hand. I do NOT have more hours to waste. Just please send me a new unit please.
Amor: One moment please...
John : Thank you.
John : Is there a problem? (Time 1:31 PM CST)
Amor: Thank you for waiting, as I check it here on our end we are now working on this problem and it should be back soon. It is now on the process and we will contact you within 24 hours cia your email. Please do extend your patience and it is now highly notified.
John : ? I do not understand? Do you see where I spent a great deal of time with the tech? What does that mean "now highly notified."
Amor: About the contact list issue it will work back again no need for replacement
John : I can't even get the thing to load up every time even with the start menu icon? I am being told my audio sounds worse then before. I totally screwed up my ability to print ANY email all morning this morning as my printer kept telling me it was unable to access the majic jack drive? When I shut the magic jack off the printer works fine.
Amor: I am transferring you to one of our top 10% agents as rated by our customers. Please hold while I transfer you.
Please wait while I transfer the chat to the best suited site operator.

John : Hi Miss Journey...please do review this problem. I do believe I bought a lemon and would much appreciate a new unit. I would be happy to send this one back so you can investigate the problem.
Journey: Thank you for holding, John. I reviewed your past conversation and we can still resolve the issue, but we need to further configure the issue with your MJ, but regarding with the contact list issue, don't worry it will be back soon as our engineers are working on it now.
Journey: By the way, is the MJ dial pad now up on your screen?
John : So then what u are saying is that there are others with this problem?
John : NO! I shut magic jack off so my printer would print emails.
Journey: yes, with contact list issue, but we'll further configure your MJ with this audio issue.
Journey: Is your magicjack now plugged in?
John : I work from home and cannot spend a great deal of time messing with this issue as if I don't work, I don't get paid. The last time I spend a LONG time with a tech (the third one if I remember right) who finally helped me but never did figure out what the exact problem was.
John : Yes it is plugged in but not on
Journey: okay, please plug it in the back panel of your computer tower without the USB extension cord
John : ? I just restarted it. What does that mean without the USB extension cord? It is plugged directly into a USB port?
Journey: yes
Journey: directly plugged it in the USB port.
John : it is plugged directly in a USB port NOT an extension cord?
Journey: yes.
John : ? what does that mean, "yes?" R U waiting on me to do something?
Journey: no
Journey: You are using windows 7 operating system right?
John : yes
Journey: Please click on windows logo then open control panel
Journey: Please double click “Windows Firewall”. Then click Advanced settings in the left column of the Windows Firewall window. (make sure it is On so that we can add the ports)
Journey: Select Inbound Rules in the left column . >>> Select New Rule in the right column. >>> Then put the dot on the circle for Port, in the New Inbound Rule Wizard and then click Next.
John : give me a sec
Journey: yes sure
John : done
Journey: please click Protocol and ports, then put the dot on the circle for UDP >>>> then put the dot on the Specific local ports and type 5060 in the box next to it >>> the click the Next button...
John : done
Journey: Please select Allow the connection and then click Next. >>> Make sure the boxes for Domain, Private and Public are Checked then click Next. >>> Then type MJ1 as name and click Finish
John : Is this going to be secure? I do xxx and it HAS TO BE secure
Journey: yes, John, No need to worry, this is just an exception for the MJ connection, you may reset the changes on its original settings once we configured the issue.
John : done
Journey: okay After that, please do the same 1-3 steps, but name it as MJ2 and the port number is 5070….
John : done
Journey: Okay Please go back to control panel; then double click “Internet Options” A dialogue box named ‘Internet Properties’ will pop up.
Journey: Please click on the “Security” tab and click “Trusted Sites” then click the “Sites…” button.
Journey: Before we add the sites, please Uncheck the BOX for Require Server Verification (on the bottom part of the site window)
John : This has got to be secure! done

John : done
Journey: Now please select the “Privacy” tab and set the Slider to Low (This is only for now, you can set the setting back to medium later). Then “Apply “ and OK
John : done
Journey: Please click the link to download and run the magicJack upgrade (applicable for both XP & Vista):
Journey: http://upgrades.magicjack.com/upgrade/upgrade.exe
John : It says upgrading now
Journey: yes
John : I guess it is done, it disappeared
Journey: Okay, please unplug your magicjack then plug it back in.
John : the splash screen is up. It never loads the program so I have to do it manually from the start menu? Wish you would send me a new one...I was hoping that would fix it
John : okay it is loaded but still no contacts
Journey: Please try make a test call.
John : It makes a call but I have no sound through my earphones. Hold on
Journey: Okay, take your time.
John : I can BARELY hear the dial tone
Journey: okay, please try a different Phone handset.
John : it froze and just shut off!
John : PLEASE send me a new unit. I HAVE to get back to work
Journey: No, we'll not replace the unit, we need to fully diagnose the issue.
Journey: Anyway, are you using a router?
John : I do not have the time...this is NOT good. I get paid by the line and have had problems with this unit for a LONG time. Yes I do have a router. You guys are having an issue with contacts. Can it be more than that, like sound quality, etc?
John : The router has been there all along even when there was no problem. I could have gone out and bought another magic jack as I have lost at least 20 bucks sitting here. You get paid to do what you are doing. I am not getting paid anything but am losing money. Please understand.
John : I have now been online with your guys for over an hour and am still having issues.

Then she had me click on a link to do a speed test… I am running a quad 4 with 6 Gig ram and she wanted me to do a speed test? I clicked on it and EVERYTHING FROZE! Over an hour and a half later! I yanked it out! Why could they just not have replaced it. I offered to return the defective one for them to work on all they wanted. They wanted to “diagnosis the issue” on my dime!@! And never did get it right.
