employment
I worked as a cashier and quit without notice because I was sick of standing on my feet 7 or 8 hours 5 nights a week with few breaks if any and having to put up with complaining guests all the time. Many guests yell at the cashiers and the cashiers have no control over pricing or stocking or policies and apparently don't realize that yelling at cashiers gets nothing accomplished or changed. Was expected to work more than 8 hour shifts but when I said I wouldn't or couldn't, was put on closing shifts exclusively. They have not paid me my last check and blocked my access to my pay stubs. Wondering if they plan to accuse me of something. I did not steal from them but since drawers are not counted before or after you start cashiering, they could make it look like you stole and take the money themselves. I just walked out because I was fed up and had another employment opportunity that I felt I would like better and do. I do not recommend it as a good employment opportunity unless you are willing to give your whole life to them and play their little games, which apparently all the managers play and they try to pawn all their work off on the lower echelon. Training was minimal or rushed and often managers would tell you the answers to the online questions just to get you back to work quickly. It's all fairly dishonest if you ask me and if you want a good career in retail, this is probably not it.
building materials, 2 x 6's, rafters, steel siding, garage doors, etc.
I built a 40 x 64' storage building with 16' walls. We bought everything we could from Menards as their sale prices became available. We have had nothing but nightmares trying to build with missing or misplaced materials that were special ordered. The organization of the the Special Order yard at the Bismarck store is a joke! They would have better luck...

I purchased railing for my deck. At the time of purchase the person installing The railing was with me and discussed the measurements of the railing. The menards employee said we needed a certain amount. My contracted disagreed. Employee insisted he was correct . I purchased the recommended amount and there were 20 rails not used at a value of 120 dollars. The store insisted I pay a 25 percent restocking fee even though it was there mistake. The manager would not listen only repeated that it would be a 25 percent restocking fee. This is a great racket and exploitation of the customer. This happened on 11/4/2015. I will be talking with the day manager but do not expect any resolution. This company is getting difficult to deal with. There are many times I go to lowes for there customer service. In fact I went to lowes when purchasing storm doors. Menards and lowes had the same door and I was buying other product at menards since lowes didinot have what I wanted. Menards would not honor the cheaper price that lowes sold for . The employee I was working with told me she had talked to the management about this before and they said no they would not price match. Menards will put them self out of business if this attitude is continued. The publics will get tired of getting robbed intentionally
too many chiefs and not enough respect or educated managers
I worked as a cashier at Menard. A 7 hour day and a 5 hour. I was directed to clock out for my 10 minute breaks to use the restroom, climb stairs to sit down and rest my back and feet. I sat down I only had time to eat one chip take a couple drinks and back down the stairs to clock back in from a 10 minute break. Today I told them I was not happy.
prevented urgent medical treatment
I have a serious complaint. Approximately July 30, 2015 I was injured while in the garden centre of Menards in International Falls, MN. The guard at the gate refused to call for any sort of medical help, or even get the manager of the store despite the fact that my head and face were dripping blood and badly injured. I was crying and I pleaded for her to...

The store has only (1) one electric scooter for the handicap to use. I have repetedly requested that they purchase more scooters by filing a complaint all the way there corporate headquarters.
The last 3 times i drove the 12 miles from dixon to sterling i had to go back home without buying anything- - -no electric cart available. So i went on line and made my 2nd. Purchase with home depot on the internet.
Menards is generating business for their competition because for their continued resusal to provide more than (1) one electric cart.
Check out wal-mart to see how it is really done!
Evidently the above comment was submitted by someone who has something to do with Menards or someone who does not have any form of a disability. Congratulations to you if you don't have any. But one day unfortually something could happen to you to cause you to have some form of a disability. Sure you may afford to purchase a motor scooter of your own, but a lot of people with disabilities can't afford them and depend on these mega stores to help them shop.
don maxon
Beware of Don Maxon who works as a Manager at the North location in Lincoln Ne.He absolutely has no business being any kind of a manager.
He treats the employees and customers very rude. I have seen him be little his employees in front of customers. He is very immature individual. A bad manager can take a good Staff and destroy it causing the best employees to flee and the remainder to lose all motivation.
It is time to get rid of Don Maxon. The employees do not care for him what's so ever.
I totally agree.donald Maxon is a horrible manager. He needs to go work in a fast food joint slinging hamburgers and fries, , don Maxon who works at the North 27th Mernards in Lincoln Ne is a very disrespectful manager. He makes the rudest comments to his employers. He belittle's them like they are a child. He has even been rude to the employees in front of the customers.. Let's hope they have enough spence to actually get rid of Mr.Donald Maxon.
the seller provided fake info about the order
I ordered some tools and supplies for the garden from the company www.menards.com. These jerks took the order and provided the approximate date of the delivery. But it was total ###. The seller simply hasn’t sent my order and all provided info was fake. They are liars and scammers, and I want to find other deceived customers, who lost money. Please we need to stop this company and return our money. Post your comments.
annual contractor rebate
I haven't received my annual contractors rebate (contractors card) I asked customer service at the store and was told to call number on the back of the card. Apparently Capital One handles their credit card accounts. After a 1/2 hour of pushing buttons on phone I was told to call another number. No help, just recordings of free offers by Capital One. I was never able to speak to a real person. Now what do I do?
Menards sells low quality merchandise. So when something breaks-and it will-they claim the item is "not in our system"I have seen lately how the stores attitude has been screw the customer.I just cut up my menards charge card so this is one customer who's had enough.
Ordered items online for store pick-up. At the check out screen, after entering personal information, the totals show $7 fee for in store pick-up handling. This is ridiculous! Other stores promote the in-store pick-up service. It is insane for Menards to charge for this. I did not place the order.
If you wait years and years to return an item, it may have been discontinued and is no longer in their computer system since they no longer sell it. People unfortunately think that because they buy something they can return it when it stops working a long time later. Honestly, sometimes you get what you pay for!
If you have your receipt, how can they claim an item is not in their system?
days off work
This is a pretty bad place to work at. It's not the job itself but it's the management. First off most of them are very rude and honestly don't give all the details to the guests or employees. Secondly Im in the Army Reserves and whenever I tell managers I have to be gone a certain weekend they act so pissed off and even put extra work on my Friday night. My weekends usually start on a Saturday and I have to drive two and a half hours away to get there so I leave right after closing. The managers will not let me leave a little after close. They keep me there until 10/10:30 at night. Therefore I don't get back until 1 a.m and I have to wake up at about 4 to go to drill. Management here is awful.
ripping off employees
I worked at the menards iron ridge wi. Dc for 1 year and 6 months i would not recommend that place to any body for a job, this is how i got ripped off for a 500 dollar hop to it bonus, they have a fall hop to it bonus that runs from september to november 1st, and you work all your scheduled hours you earn a 500 dollar bonus, sounds simple enough right? Well not so fast, they scheduled you to make the bonus working 42 or 43 hours a week, and you make that no problem you have that in by friday. Witch was october 31st. I gave them a 12 day notice when all i had to give was 10 days, that i would be leaving and my last day would be november 1st. Well november 1st was a saturday and i was not scheduled to work that weekend because i worked the saturday before. When i turned my time card in at the end of my shift on friday the 31st i asked the department manager if i still would get the bonus and he said yes i had more then enough hours to make the bonus. Well the last time i talked to him he said i would not get the bonus because they go by the last day i worked. But you said i had enough hours in to make the bonus. He said right i know you did, but payroll said they aren't going to give you the bonus. I would not recommend menards as a place to work ever
utter incompetence
Online ordering nightmares. In the past few months, my online orders have been (A) lost (B) canceled without notifying me (C) notified me that they are available for pickup... when they are not (D) told they were canceled and refunded... when they were not. The staff are friendly and trying - but their systems and processes are stuck in 1970. EDIT: it...

They are the worst place to ever work, they don't train you right, and if the GO's corporate comes in you walk on pins and needles with them and management, If corporate doesn't like the way you look or talk to them you will either be fired or demoted. Everyday you wondered everyday if you were going to have a job. They are also a very unsafe place to work...

I bought bar equipment from the company www.menards.com. It was bad experience, ‘coz the seller fooled us. I paid about $2, 000 for the order and delivery, but the seller provided the empty confirmation email. I sent several emails, but no response. After 3 weeks my order hasn’t been delivered. The seller continued to keep silence. Maybe someone has any idea how to track this seller and return money back, please contact me then or leave a comment. Thanks.
Avoid working at menards at all costs!!!
Menards is by far the worst job I have ever had! Good place to shop but not to work. Nothing really positive to say. I was glad to get out of there and using my degree for a new and more rewarding career. Good place to work as a student, and they work around your classes. IPS if your store qualifies. Extra 2.50 on weekends. Met some good friends there. Most...

Here is the letter I forwarded to corporate
On January 12, 2014 my father purchased two bathroom fans online, order
#xxxxx. He came to the conclusion,
after making the purchase that the fans were not fit for his needs and he
needed to return them. On Saturday, February 15, 2014, we went to Menards East
Green Bay, store # 3123 to return the fans he had purchased previously and to
purchase some other needed items for one of the renovation projects he is
working on. He was told by the representatives of the store, Randy Van Straten and Nick Wanless, that in order to return the items he would be subjected to a restocking fee because these fans were ‘special order.’ The issue here is that prior to checkout, on the website there is nothing that states anything about the item being a ‘special order’ or anything stating that if you do try to return said items that they will be subject to a 25% restocking fee. The site should clearly state those said terms otherwise anyone is misled into believing that they can return these items without any repercussions. While these two issues about the website were expressed to first, Nick Wanless he was not helpful but at least considerably understandable of the situation and he knew his hands were tied. Next, we asked to speak to the next person in the chain of management, we were directed to Randy Van Straten. Randy was far from helpful for being a general manager. We showed him through our whole process of utilizing the website and how we checked out to even prove to him that there was nothing indicating the 25% restocking fee from our items. There was more of an issue with Randy than just not being helpful his demeanor, tone, and attitude were degrading. He even took things as far as saying, “I can’t buy these fans back; nobody is going to buy a$400 fan.” He talked down on my father, like he has not made any purchases or returns with Menards in the past. He has always been a very loyal customer. I am quite sure the company is able to view through my father’s information the amount of purchases he has made here. You would think with all of the money and the time he has spent here he would receive slightly better treatment. He immediately received no help from Randy and when we asked to speak to whoever was above him, he rudely said, “Go ahead, John Menards.” This is obviously not the correct chain of managerial staff to go from a general manager to a CEO of such a large company, but we said okay asked for the contact information. He then handed us a comment card and turned away. My father was actually quite offended that he acted in such a way that he immediately left the store and decided to not even make his other necessary purchases. After making so many purchases with Menards he has never had an issue with any returns. As an onlooker to the whole situation I cannot get past the thought of what just happened, the treatment he received from a general manager was far from acceptable for any type of business, I am completely appalled by the service of Menards. Feel free to contact him through the information of his construction company, xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx. I am sure Menard’s has his information on file. If you would like to view his credit card purchases to help Menards understand the frustration he may have I am quite sure he would be happy to provide a representative with that information.
Regardless, I appreciate you taking the time to read of my concerns.
I am very interested in talking with you about your experience, but I think all information will be blocked out as your Father's company info was. I had the same experience with bathroom faucets and have filed a consumer complaint with the Wisconsin dept of consumer affairs. The fact that I am in Michigan and Menard Inc is in Wisconsin left my investigator at a disadvantage, but they may be able to do more for you! I know this was a long time ago, but if you file a complaint, it will at least go in their open records and may help others. I am heading to small claims on my situation and may even consider a class action suit. I am on this site via facebook and would definitely respond to a reach out there if you can find me. After mailing in my rebate for 74.55 and waiting ten weeks, no rebate. Went to the Menard's store, they could not help me.
Menard's store was located in Springfield, Illinois West Side of town.
work
I worked at menards over 4yrs, they are cheap cheap! People laugh when i tell of the local holloween parade when they asked employees to provide the candy to throw to the kids. ( no kidding) The managers make sure parttimers don't get enough hours to get profit sharing. They do make you work past your scheduled hours all the time. Insurance offered to parttimers is a joke, employee turnover is amazing. Keep in mind john menard is worth over 10 billion, and you get 20cents a year raise if you pass a test.

Amen brother! Menards is not an employee friendly place and not the worst job out there, but its right up there as one. Most managers are incompatent and unprofessional. I wonder how some of them get promoted to these postions? There benefits suck and agree the health insurance coverage and high co-pay sucks. For the amount of work you do for this company, there too cheap to compensate their employees accordingly for the work done. Not complaining about having to do the work and having to prove to them that I'm a good reliable worker but come on. As a result, who wants to work here if you get treated like crap by most managers, have no work/life balance, and low pay/subpar benefits. This is why you guys have such high turnover and can't keep the talented, hard workers in order to keep the stores operating correctly, because they realize they can take there talents elsewhere who will treat them ethicly and compensate them better.
extended warranty
Do NOT buy your appliances at Menards! Bought a brand new Amana Stackable washer/dryer front load set in 2011. I also purchased the 2 year extended warranty. Within 6 months, the belt broke on the dryer. Waited 2 weeks for that to be repaired. Now, I have the wash machine giving me trouble, will not spin out the water. Called on 11/14 and waited until 11/20 for a repair man thru that horrible A & E service contractor. Repairman came out, ran some codes on it, said there was nothing wrong with it. I suppose I am to disregard the smell of burning plastic coming from it, or not be bothered by the load of soaking wet clothes that won't spin out! Service man told me to unplug and reset it when it acts up, other than that, nothing wrong with the machine. He wasn't out of this driveway 10 minutes, when the machine quit. I now have an entire load of soaking wet clothes sitting in it...and...wait for it...yep! They are SO sorry, they can't get a repairman back out here until 11/29! So I am supposed to be without a washer from 11/14 - 11/29? HORRIBLE SERVICE-HORRIBLE WARRANTY CONTRACTOR. Shop at Lowes or anywhere else...I will never again buy so much as a 2 x 4 from Menards!
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
You should have insisted that the repairman stay there while you attempted to wash a load. Your fault for not presenting the problem to him before he left! Speak up for yourself!
pets
I'm DONE shopping at Menards! From now on I will be shopping at LOWES!!! They allow me to bring my dog in with me. My dog is cleaner than some of the employee's I have seen at Menards...AND MY DOG IS SMARTER than a lot of them that work there too! Stick it where the sun don't shine Menards! You just gave LOWES my business!

Purchased and item and paid $200 cash for the item. Did not keep my receipt. Sometime later, I attempted to return the item and was prepared to get in-store credit and even an amount lower than what I paid since I did not have a receipt. Unbelievably, when I went to the return desk, the store manager said my "circumstances were suspicious" and he claimed I stole the item because I did not have a receipt. He confiscated the item and asked me to leave the store. I called Guest Services and filed a complaint. They did not get back to me. I called them a week later and they said they could find no evidence of purchase and I would get no refund; and the store would "hold" the item until I could prove I bought it. Do not pay cash at Menards and do not attempt to return a cash item without a receipt. You will be treated like a criminal and your item will be confiscated.
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
Waited ten weeks for a 74.55 a Menard's rebate that never came. Went to the store and was told they could not help me.
Got on line and could not get the problem resolved. What a scam.

I am a current employee and everything I have read here is 100 % accurate and true. I am a very hard working person with drive and excellent selling skills. When they hired me they told me they were looking for someone with excellent selling skills and the drive to move up within the company. I have received several selling skills rewards with other companies and I have worked for myself which requires going out there and selling. When you punch in at Menards it displays Sell, Sell, Sell on the clock display. In the year that I have worked for Menards I have been discouraged from selling and pushed towards downstocking, downstocking, downstocking. I never have handled so much freight in my life and barely had a chance to sell anything. They have kids right out of high school standing around in their 18-24 we don't do anything smug club managing older people with real bills, house payments, and kids to raise who need and want to work hard and earn an honest living. This place is a joke and not a funny one at that. These are peoples lives they are Fu*&%#& with. I have completed all of their advancement courses and passed with 100 % and I bring 25 years of selling and working experience to the table only to be shot down by some 18 year old snot nosed punk who has never had a job and spends all day texting on the phone. This my friends is the culture at Menards ! No I don't like it and Yes I am looking for another job but if you are considering a job with this company and you have a family and bills to pay and want to be treated fair I recommend you look somewhere else. I have had some had some bad jobs in my lifetime but this one sucks the most. If you are a young lazy snot nosed punk looking to bully hard working mature adults around and need the opportunity to advance with a company without trying to hard than this is the place for you. Low pay. unfair management practices, age discrimination, lie after lie after lie is what Menards has to offer good hard hones working people. I hope to be out of this disorganized hell hell-hole real soon .
Your right on. That's why I got a college degree and moved up in the world to a "grown-up" career than this "dead-end Job". I wish you good luck in your pursuit of a new job. Believe me, when you leave, you will feel like a human being again.
I agree with you. All in all, Menards is a "dead end retail job" that acts unprofessional toward employees, doesn't give them the tools or the training to succeed, and think they own you and your time. I would never recommend employment there! Overall, the corporate culture and the terrible management made the working environment very toxic, hostile, negative, and very stressful. The company still operates with a top down, fear-based management style where the workers are considered easily replaceable. There's no loyalty to the hard working employees. They allowed blatant examples of favoritism by superiors and verbal abuse of employees by customers and co-workers. They criticize your efforts by being rude to you and berating you. Micromanagement is a horrible issue with Menards which can be demoralizing and frustrating (especially when it gets in the way of the employee doing their job effectively and efficiently). Another big issue is that corporate penny pinches and cuts corners on everything and focuses more on catching mistakes then improving stores. Corporate expects a lot from employees, but offers little support to help them do their job efficiently. Corporate also set up some of the craziest, write up happy rules and attendance policy I've ever seen for a workplace. They are ruthless. If you make one minute mistake, your written up or even fired. Policies & procedures (half of which aren’t even followed) are ridiculously extensive and management is inconsistent in enforcing them. Overall, very low standards as far as promoting employees to jobs they are not qualified or trained to perform. I admired the culture of hard work at Menards, but the overall talent level of the company is lacking. Most people working there have very little education or no real world working experience outside of Menards. In general, the overall management is very unprofessional and incompetent and ran by people with no degrees or any knowledge of business what-so-ever. Most promotions into management are based on favoritism rather than on someone's qualifications. Managers are usually always irritated or annoyed, because corporate is always switching policies on them, auditing them, and other general nonsense. Management is only helpful when they want to be and there's no leadership from them. Basically, training is all on you between doing massive amounts of mundane training paperwork with little to no direction from management and the useless in-home training courses which is not paid for and voluntarily done on your own time at home (if your ever there). Benefits are a joke and hourly pay doesn't match the workload they expect of you. Basically, you will not have a work/life balance (especially managers) due to an outdated culture of all work and no play. Your schedule fluctuates (random hours each week), so you could never plan anything in advance. They have an unwritten policy that Menards is priority #1 (even over your health, family, home, attending college, or important obligations/tasks outside of work). It’s very obvious that their low prices come at the expense of their employees. All these cons resulted in a ridiculously high turnover rate. Thank goodness I found a better career with my college degree and don't have to work at this disorganized hell-hole.
