in june 2013 vinyl stone was ordered from kenosha menards, the clerk put in the wrong order number andthe wrong stone came in. the order was reordered with the right number. after 10 days when asked where the oder was they replied it would take 3 weeks. i called the manufactuer in canada and they said they ship 4 days after order recieved. back to menards and they go loking for the order and then say not placed because only ordered 1 and 1/2 box not 2 boxes, they had failed to call and say must place order in full boxes. another delay. next order put in 7/11/13 and menards said they would expidite the order but after 10 days agin they say now maybe by 8/1/13. how do they stay in business with this kind of practice.i used to be a good customer. no more. i will spend my money at a store that cares about it, s customers.

night store manager
I had just exchanged a hummingbird solar light and a few other items in a cart.
I didn't want someone to steal my light so I took with me into the restroom with
my reciept in my hand! A employee was coming out of a stall as I was going in.
I walked past her to open a stall door and the box fell and the light pieces fell
out all over the floor. I picked them all up, In the meantime she watched me as I
did this. I then went into my stall. I heard her wash her hands, dry them with the
hand dryer. It shut off and then I did not hear the door. So I figured she probably
thinks I'm stealing this light. So I start counting to see how long she stands there.
It was over 30 seconds. Then all the sudden she shuts off the light and I hear the door!
I was livid! I yelled " I have a reciept you idiot!. So I went to find a manager.
So I don't have to go far and I come upon a guy who looked NO older than 30. I wait
for him to stop talking to a customer and ask him to pleas page a manager. He said
I am the store manager. Which I don't think he oversees the whole store due to the
fact it was 7:30pm. So I tell him what just happened and he has a slight grin like
he's amuzed. And aks for a description. I give him one. he said I don't know who
it is you are talking about. He says well I'm sure she did not do on purpose. I
said she did because she probably thought I was stealing the light. He just keeps
grinning like its a joke. I said you a piss poor manager. I said it was pitch black
and I could have easy fell. I start to walk away and he laughs. So I whipped around
and said I don't think its funny. What if I had, had a kid in their with me or was had
issues walking. He said you aren't giving me an oppurtunity to do anything. I said you
haven't made any attempt to do anything besides laugh and thinks it a joke. He said
maybe she did on accident. I said I don't think so due to the fact she waited so long
to leave. I said she should be reprimanded at the least. So he asked me to point her
out. I did and he said it was her first day and checked out my few items and left the
store. Only to get halfway to my truck and he was behind me yelling at me saying he
talked to her and she said it was an accident. It was her first day like she is going
to say "yeah I did it on purpose." What a dumbschit to think an employee on their first
day would admit to doing that. I said of course she says that. He says why would she do
it on purpose? I said do you live in this era? People can be childish! He said do you?
He asks me if I turn my lights on when I go to the rr in my house and then off when leave
the room. He just kept ANTAGONIZING me! He kept arguring with me for about 4 mins in the
parking lot by my truck, I finally told him you better get the F away from me if you know
whats good for you. The look on his face was priceless! But he made another comment about
her doing it by accident and something else and I told him he is a piss poor manager if he
really believes that or an employee is going to tell him they did it on purpose! Wow quit
breathing my air! The smart, sane people need it.

Ultradeck
After we decided to spend more on our decking than using normal wood, we were shocked when after about 4 days, the decking had faded to white! It just took a few days... Not years, days! When I called to complain, they explained that it faded by design! They pointed out that their brochure showed this very clearly.
So, I found the brochure and found that all of the pictures are of the unfaded ultra deck. However, on one page in a very small photo, it says the decking will fade. I asked them why all of their pictures were of the unfaded wood? They had no answer. They also explained that the company that manufactures the ultra deck is owed by menards.
I asked for some kind of compensation and they basically said no way, we designed it this way. I explained that I could understand fading after about 10 years... Not 10 days. They didn't care.
I have no idea if other composite decking fades this way, but do your homework. We should have... Here are some pictures

This is a most terrible deck system!
Its embarrassing to do your best to make cuts go well, only you have the quick cap move so much with the heat and cool of each dday!
I will never install such a product again. As it is now, I have spend over 100 hours repairing issues that never should have happened.
Poor material design, and no care to the end product. Quality. Shot at best! Call me. And I will explain!
[protected]
I purchased the Menards ultra deck quick cap to go over an existing deck. The product is terrible. It has warped and the edges are cracking. I have spend nearly over a year going back and forth with Menards on this. They keep blaming it on the existing deck below. I have talked to several people and they say there is too much moisture that is trapped and this is what happens. Terrible product. They said they would replace the decking but what about the labor? That was just as much as the decking. Then they offered me a measly $250 store credit. Why would I want to buy anything there!
I just purchase the ultra deck handrails and spindles to replace wooden ones on my deck. I'm fairly handy as I've built a couple of houses, do all my own work, etc BUT the ultradeck handrail system is not for the inexperienced. The metal inserts fit well in the handrail when empty, but when you have spindles in place you cannot slide it in place without a whole lot of gymnastics. The product looks nice but unless you are fairly experienced in these types of difficulties, purchase another brand or hire a professional to install it for you.
training
A great place to work? I think not. I took a promotion with Menards in another state thinking it would be the greatest thing ever. Boy was I wrong. I have received NO TRAINING despite what I have to teach myself and then when I get something wrong instead of being showed the correct way to do it, I get nothing. The half-hour lunch is ridiculous as well especially for a management position. What kind of person wants to work for a business where you're given little to no direction and when you ask a question you get a blank stare and they just walk away? And the daily emails from corporate are especially fun. I almost feel as though they have nothing better to do than send emails to employees stating everything they're doing wrong. I have been told that I will be getting "help" through the manager helping manager program, but I honestly think that's a rumor. My advice to anyone seeking employment is to steer clear from this place unless you enjoy not eating, sleeping, and constantly worrying about the GO being on your ###.
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
Also, Menards lacks good training and you feel a lack of direction and accomplishment. It seems there is no consensus from the GM's on how things are to be done or run in accordence with corporate policies. They pretty much feed you out to the wolves and let you learn on the fly which leads to many unhappy customers. They rely on the in-home training which you don't get paid for and have to do on your own time. It teaches you the basics and not the more technical stuff of products sold needed when customers ask you certain questions. The GO's (corporate) monitors the cameras to spy on employees, not to catch theives. I seen this from my managers too with the GO's being up there ### for stupid stuff. From this, I think the GO's lack any common sense and knowledge on the daily upkeep and opperations of a store. Most of there tasks and projects don't make sense and often the goals of getting projects done are unattainable. When you are doing a project, they never have enough supplies (like shelves, peg hooks, tools, etc.) to get the project done on time. All in all, I think there crapy treatment and underpayment/poor benefits for employees drives away the talented hard workers needed to keep Menards opperating properly. Eventually, these problems will catch up with them in the long run and they will be forced to make a change or go out of business.
The comment about training and help from the GO/managers by XuGhostyl is a lie. Nothing wrong with Menards? LOL, what are you smoking? Menards is by far the worst job I have ever had! This job is the typical dead end job unless your in corporate. They use IPS and just enough benefits to lure unsuspecting people in, but it doesn't make up for the lack of pay and perks, no work/life balance, and the crap/harassment you have to put up with daily there from rude customers and clueless co-workers/bosses. All their money and benefits isn't worth your time and sanity to stay here in the long run. I used to work there for over 2 years and quit, because I found a better job with my degree. I got tired of being treated like s&*t by the mircomanageing and disrespectful managers and being taken advantage of for being a good hard worker. The hard worker never gets appreciated or feels a sense of accomplishment, and we get the rath of the GM's when things are not done right by others, because they know we will pick up the slack of the real lazy workers. The hard worker is the pack mule for this place since alot of workers are incompantant which means we get the s&*tty shifts, working every overnight, and closing then opening the next day. If your a good worker, it seems management wants you there during all hours of operation until you feel like your practically living out of your car as if you don't have a anything else going on in your life such as taking care of a house, family, etc. There is no accentive to move into management and the contracts managers have to sign are rediciulous and even break labor laws. Your managers are underpayed and have to work long long hours, especially on your weekends on. Work 55-60+ hours every week, no thank you! OT and the bounses, if you get them, somewhat makeup for it but not worth getting burnt out for. The benefits Menards gives full timers are laughable, especially your health insurance coverage/cost and vacation days intially. Seriously, why do you have to wait a year to get vacation days and no sick days? Do you think people never get sick or get burnt out? Really, good companies know workers need a break once in a while and offer some sick days and give vacation days to their workers before a year! This is why you guys have such high turnover and can't keep management postions filled. The place is a joke and is ran by a bunch of greedy heartless people who don't value their employees hard work they do for them and don't give them proper compansion/benefits and rest. Stay clear of working here! I get payed more and better benefits, treated with diginity, and have a work/life balance at my current job working 40-45 hours every week Monday-Friday.
I have been working their for yrs and never once had a problem we are allowed breaks if u meet the right time like u have to have over 7 hrs and 30 mins of work time before ur allowed to go on break which means if u work 12 to 8 that's 8 hrs which means ur allowed a break u also get a few 10 min breaks i get tons of help and training when i need it or if I did something wrong so honestly I think ur just bashing on them for no reason unless u got fired and just want to go after them so stop ur ### nothing is wrong with menards and get a life I mean come on girl
damaged my car in lumber yard
My car was damaged by lumber that they unloaded into the middle of the yard (right in front of my car). After I loaded my lumber, I pulled forward and went up and over a load of 2x4s left in the middle of the drive. It took a tow truck to lift me off and caused $1, 300 in damage. They filed a claim with their insurance company who told me it was my fault. I contacted their offices to resolve but they blew me off. I filed a suit in my local small claims court. It took 6 monthy, patience and a $250 filing fee. I did it on my own without an attorney. They sent a high priced lawyer from their WI corporate office to fight the claim but my picture and common sense paid off. I won and they had to pay my court costs. Menards will try to get away (and fight) anything. Taking them on like this might be the only way to get them to take responsibility. Good luck.

interior closet doors
We recently purchaed new interior doors and closet doors from Menards. All were Mastercraft doors. All of our closet doors were professionally installed. The closet doors keep randomly falling off. We are afraid that one of them is going to fall off on our 11 year old son. Menards was no help at all. We have to contact the manufacturer WTH. Stand by your product Menards, this is now a safety issue for you.
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
I agree with ohhenry. This sounds like an installation issue. A second opinion by another installer is a good idea.
Sounds like an installation problem, not a manufacturer problem. You appear to have the same disease as most of the nation right now, you expect "someone" to take care of your problem. I suggest you get a second opinion by another "professional" to be sure the original "professional installation" was done properly. If you are truly afraid of a door falling on your child, take it down before the 11 year old gets injured for Pete's sake!
anti-consumer actions
A little RANT about CUSTOMER NO-SERVICE at Menards
[Posted this earlier to Menards Memes and just now hit up the Clark Howard page hoping that somewhere along the line the pencil pushers at Menards will see the problem and how it is perceived that shoppers may view how they are being treated.]
They need to fix the registers in Michigan City, IN so that #1, the screen on the payment device which used to display items and prices as they were being rung up, returns to showing the register data for the customer; and #2, that the register AND receipt reflects the true unit price when ringing up items on sale.
Seeing "12 @$3.99 $42.24 ($47.88 - $5.64)" doesn't clearly inform the customer during checkout that the item rang up at $3.52 per item.
Looking OVER THE Cashiers shoulder (cause I can no longer view the tally on the customer's pay pad) I see a price I know it isn't. I ask the cashier what it rang up as... He doesn't know cause he doesn't get the info either, and has to pull out a calculator he has and divides the extended price by the unit count. OK, thanks, that's the price it is suppose to be but I couldn't tell from your screen.
Any casiers her, I'm sorry, for I'm sure that my staring over your shoulder at your screen to see what is being rung up creeps you out, but it's my money I'm spending there, and I believe that as a customer, I deserve to know that I am being charged fairly.
Please pass it on to whoever might FIX THIS PROBLEM. Last week I already sent an email to the customer service address on the company web page, and have yet to hear any response. Today I complained on my way out after spending $170 to the customer service desk and got the impression that it wasn't going to be passed on. I'm not sure if I'll wait till my next trip or not before I start hitting up various consumer media groups. I'll sleep on that one, but if I do, Clark Howard's group will be one of the first who's attention I bring this anti-consumer move to. Please, pass it on. I really do like Menards and really don't care all that much for Lowes (next door to my Menards) or Home Depot (next door to the next closest Menards to me.)
It has been that way in MIchigan as far back as I can remember. The cost to maintain the area where you turn in the bottles/cans is essentially added to the price of everything you buy in the store, so its in their interest to make you use that money at the store where you returned the stuff. For whatever reason, they like it that way and even though it has been challenged, it will never change.
It is new software, and I am sure there will be changes in the future. Example, Michigan has a bottle deposit, but they did not have the foresight to figure this out, so to give a customer bottle return money, they have to do a "no receipt" transaction, get one of their bosses to ok it, then try to push you taking that money as a store credit. It is a work in progress, for sure.
It's inner city style math, now the norm, about time you got used to it. To illustrate, just think of the myriad ways you can manually (pencil and paper) work out the problem " 3792 X 4.07 = " Some methods are the most intuitive using established math rules; and others use operations that are not logical but some liberal at Cornell thought was "easier to teach."
They (stores) all do it, and it makes just as much sense as the obnoxious remark you get from the supermarket clerk.."Thank you Mr So-and-so...you "saved" two dollars and sixty three cents"
No I didn't. I SPENT sixty eight dollars and forty five cents, you nitwit.
lazy managers
The managers in the Spencer location are about the lazziest people I have ever seen. Don't ever ask them for help because they dont know what they are doing. I asked Nick for help and he passed me off to am employee that couldnt even help me . Then when I was fed off going off to Bomgars I could see him in the break area talking to fellow employees what a lazy young man I hope they never give him or the other one chris a store It would be a sad day for menards..
security
Hi. I shopped at Menards Naperville, IL store today and have never been so embarrassed in my life. I needed to do some measuring to make sure I have the right sizes to complete my purchase, so I took the tape measure and put it back somewhere in the isles. After checking out the security guy caught me outside the door and blamed me that I stole that tape measure. When I told him that I left it somewhere in the isles he wanted me to go back in the store and show me where. Then after checking my pockets he just said "Alright, have a nice day". That was so embarrassing and he couldn't even say a simple SORRY.
I'm a contractor and I shop at this store often.
Worst shopping experience, ever.
The security personnel was doing their job. Unless they out and said " you stole that tape measure and i want it back!" you were not being accused of anything. They were being sure that you didn't walk out the door with unpaid merchandice as it happens all the time. All the security knew was that you had the product, you went around the corner out of sight and when you reappeared you no longer had the product. They were being safe rather than sorry. How about thanking them for doing thier job instead of complaining because they hurt your feelings and embarrassed you a little?!
You should of put it back where it belongs, but they had no right to make u do anything, except wait there until the cops come. Then, when they find nothing, I believe I would of talked to my attorney to see if I could get that " I'm sorry", and a whole lot more...lol I worked in retail myself, and one of our rules were make sure u see them put it in their pocket/bag, then wait till they get out the door before u confront them. She said if I accuse them of stealing and they have nothing, there would be a possibility the store and me could be sued...
I guarantee you they didn't make him do anything. I'll bet you they asked and he complied. Im sure if you asked the security person he has a different story and proof
"so I took the tape measure and put it back somewhere in the isles"
why didn't you put it back where you got it? If you had ever worked in retail, you would know how frustrating it is when customers just pick things up and drop them wherever they want.
Policy
Bought plants from here was told if they died bring them back and would be replaced after taking care of them for a month they died took them back you guessed it they wouldn't take them back! It's not the money it's their policy and the fact that the little witch at the counter was flipping rude! I work in customer service she would work for me for about 5 minutes! After spending thousands of dollars at this Menard's all I can say is BYE we will be spending our money at LOWE'S and HOME DEPOT they are NICE and oh yes they stand behind their policies! I never complain because I do know what it's like to be behind the counter but when I am giving you MY hard earned money you need to stand behind YOUR policy and treat ME with respect! I will take my money elsewhere thank you!
bait, and switch, or no integrity
I went into the Rhinelander Menards to purchase a dishwasher, and better than a half hour with a seemingly helpful salesman I purchased a top of the line Frigidaire model discounted to $650, a $85 warranty, and plumbing hardware. When picking up behind the store it had to be unwrapped from plastic wrap, and cardboard to fit in the my van. When I stopped before leaving the gate to retrieve paper work I noticed a very large, and unsightly dent in the door that wasn't present in the store. When returning it to the warehouse before leaving the gate I was asked whether I had bent it with the hatch of my van to even a manager that claimed I'd been informed of the dent(huge). I was refunded fully by customer service, while the general store manager basically insisted I was liar. Call it what you want, bait and switch, kids damaging it between the store, and the pickup, and, or a retail establishment basically lacking in integrity.
tricking people to work
Last nite I, my wife, brother-in-law, sister-in-law visited the kokomo, IN Meynards store and I had a lot of items as did my brother-in-law and we had purchased several downspout extensions (9) and as we were leaving one rolled off from under our cart and we had parked in front of the checkouts just outside the doors and rather than they bringing it to us they put it in an area where they accumulate items and ONLY after I went back in and asked about it did we get it back, they even said they saw it roll off but did not make an effort to get it to us. There were no other people in line behind us.
Also, upon checkout we had purchased several bags of landscape rock and we asked for assistance to load them into our Truck. The young man stood by and as we got the gate down he got on the radio and started talking and then did load one bag, then walked around and began walking off and I asked if he was going to help or stand there. He did grab another bag then started walking off. I was just surprised and to be honest if he was my employee and did that I would have fired him. He did whatever he could to AVOID working. I did walk back in the store and told another person what happened and he said nothing.
To be honest if it was my store I would have fired all three people. I have heard several complaint’s regarding the Kokomo Store regarding lack of help, etc. I really like the variety but if they continue to be run this way, it won’t last long.
Just thought your Company should know that Management at the kokomo store is lacking.
Please write or email the General Office. It will be taken Care of... Sorry to hear this. if you want faster results remember names and see the General Manager.
rudness of staff
Local staff are extremely rude and with a new mega-store recently opened, they are not knowledgeable of the location of items or prices. Staff need training on how to deal with customers and friendliness. Even Menard stores from surrounding areas agree that the Marshalltown, Ia store has a reputation of rudeness and making the customers feel like idiots. To even file a compaint at the Menards Headquarters in Wisconsin, you can not talk directly to Public Relations Division, you have to fill out a card at the local Menards store and they will (or will not) forward to Headquarters...

poor wood quality
WARNING! Do not buy any unstained wood at Menards. Their quality is crap and when you try to return in-stock items, they charge a 25% restock fee. Staining brand new doors today and each one had the same problem - huge spots that only show up when stained, and the store said was my fault. The lousy planing and millwork was one thing, but there is no way to resolve the spot issue. I've stained thousands of feet of raw oak and pine and never saw this problem before. Be very careful dealing with the Crestwood Illinois - they'll rob you with fees and not accept that they did not provide a quality product!

customer service
I ordered 400 retaing wall block &400 cap block on Sat Apr 21st (in store) Iordered another 350 retaining wall block on Sun Apr22 (by phone) Promised delivery date by store for Fri Apr27 between 9a-12p. Menards called on Thur Apr 26th at about 12p and said that they ony had 187 pieces to deliver Fri. Asking why, told "I didn't set up the delivery" when "truck is on the way, maybe Sat or next week" I am now out a days pay from work (I took day off) have to pay 6 men - 8 hrs labor - $800.00. The worst part of the whole thing is that I Never even got an apology or offered any compensation! Needless to say I will never shop at the Eden Prarie, MN "Superstore" again. And I can't wait till people at my work ask me if I ever had any problems with Menards.
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
Unfortunately, the Eden Prairie store has upgraded in construction but downgraded itself in customer service. Apology or compensation is a new concept to the current staff at the Eden Prairie store. I would like to add the following from my recent experience of buying the bricks:
1) You will see 4-5 staff members chatting in the isle but no one will come to you to check if you need any help.
2) Their inventory in the computer system is totally off. System shows the inventory exists but there isn't. On top of it you will have to face the attitude of the staff who thinks that you are not educated enough to understand them. Still, no apology.
3) Lack of diversity in employees and hence total disrespect towards diversity.
online service
I ordered 4 rolls of wallpaper. I was charged for 4 rolls of wallpaper. A few weeks later, I received 2 rolls of wallpaper with no indication that the rest of the order was being delayed. I emailed twice and received a generic response saying they were checking into it. When I check with order tracker, it says order shipped and delivered. I called my local store for help. They said they couldn't help. I found a phone number for the corporate store but haven't been able to speak to anyone. There is no phone number for the online store. At this point, I am too irritated to continue dealing with them and plan on finally finishing the project without the wallpaper. I'm going to attempt to just return the two rolls and hope that " keeping my fingers crossed" will be an effective strategy since solving the problem by normal methods is not working. This is no way to run a business and i am advising everyone not to use Menard's online service.

This is the second time I am weighting to you people, I bought a 22'' 3n1196cc mower from you on [protected] I used it 3 or 4 times . I call and you told me to take it in for repair so I did on 7-7-2014 I called the repair center on [protected] and they said it will be at least another week if not two . My nabors are complaining that my grass has to be cut what the hell am I suppose to do with out a mower this really sucks . You should replace it or give me a stores credit I am going to tell every one I know how you people deal will bad equipment and how you deal with it
also the person I called at the store I bought it was very rude to me
interior doors
I bought 3 interior solid core doors 2 months ago. A professional trim carpenter who has hung some 500 doors indicated that they were poorly designed. The jam stop does not register with the top stop section and cannot be moved because nothing is underneath it. The doors cannot be sanded or planed because the appearance coating is sprayed or photographed on the particle board. Is has no bevel opposite the hinge side so that when the door opens or closes it is inclined to hit the outside jam. This is a poorly engineered and manufactured product. I have bought many thousands of dollars of materials from Menards over the last few years but by far this was the worst. I strongly recommend against purchasing of any size:
Interior Prehung Flush Door Wheat Oak Finish 30 in. x 80 in.
Wheat Oak Silicone Prefinish
Nominal Size: 30"W x 80"H - LH
Sku: 4112407
I am a contractor that purchases thousands of dollars of products from Menards every year. I have recently come across the doors that are mentioned in this complaint. I totally agree that they are the worst "pre-finished" doors on the market. There is basically an "oak-look" sticker instead of the typical thin oak veneer on all exposed surfaces of the door, jamb and stop. This presents multiple problems including unrepairable dings and scratches, terrible trimmability and the aforementioned inability to adjust the stops/hinges/etc... I enjoy saving "big money" at Menards as it is typically 10% cheaper than Home Depot and 15% cheaper than lowe's, often times on the exact same manufacturers products. Just, please people, use some common sense. There is a reason why these doors are $70 less than any other pre-finished product. If your contractor suggests them-blame your contractor, if you are choosing products for your own home and are in doubt of the quality, just ask one of the people at the contractor services desk. They will be happy to show you the differences and recommend a higher quality product.
poor quality
Menards steel entry doors have a wood edge and cost almost twice as much as a better quality steel edge door that you could purchase from a local building supply company . To add insult to injury, when the door arrived, there was almost a 1/2" between the door edge and the frame strike plate. The door barely latched since the latch barely reached the frame. NEVER BUY A DOOR FROM MENARDS, VERY EXPENSIVE AND VERY POOR QUALITY!
I also have Mastercraft doors throughout my home. When I moved in the original doors were disgraceful, but they were old. After shopping around, Menards had the doors I wanted that would fit with the look I was attempting, at a price that I was happy with. I was able to replace all the doors at the same time while still being within my budget.
I replaced my front door with a Mastercraft steel door and have no complaints about it. After price shopping Menards beat everybody else and I have received many compliments on the door I picked. I also had a gap at the strike plate when it was installed, but that was corrected with a simple shim that my contractor missed.
poor quality products
Menards is not to be trusted. I had a full lite door delivered. I did not inspect the door before the delivery service left. All cardboard except one side had been removed before delivery. When I moved the one piece of cardboard I found that the miter was awful. But my handyman told me these come off the assembly line very fast and this could be expected and that it was fixable. When I told him the frame was raw wood he said that is very unusual - that the frame is usually painted during manufacturing. He picked up the door to take it to his shop for painting. So even though I got a 'decent' price on the door I now have to pay for paint and painting time. Then I got an email from him with a picture showing damage to the door. Inside the frame at one of the hinges the wood is split - not a great place to see damage. He said this to is fixable but I am furiouos that I have paid for a new door and it looks as if this was removed from an old building somewhere instead of being new. I will never, ever buy another thing from Menards! I am furious!
overcharge the disabled
Well, we are done shopping at our local Menards in Big Rapids, Michigan. Although we weren't able to buy an HDTV a few weeks ago due to poor service, after further communication with the store manager, he did contact us to say he talked to his staff to ensure our bad experience wouldn't happen again. We accepted the fact that he couldn't find us another HDTV to buy, and planned on finding one elsewhere.
But then we had another bad experience on 07/16/2011 when we went to our local Menards to do some shopping and buy a "Oversized Leather Rocker Recliner" on sale for their "Crazy Days" promotion. Initially, we got help from a young male staff who was very friendly and helpful as we needed it to be delivered to our apartment. He took us to a computer and put in all the information to sell and deliver us the recliner, and said it would be $40.00 for it to be delivered the following day. We said that would be great. He then said he was sorry, but had to get another sales staff to complete the sale because he wasn't authorized to. He then got a very tall, bald man we believe was named Tim to complete our transaction. This other staff first said it couldn't be delivered on the next day because they weren't doing any deliveries that day. He stated that the next day after was the earliest it would be delivered. We agreed that would be okay if it couldn't be today or the next. He then said they could deliver the recliner to our garage. We stated that we lived in an apartment and had no garage. He then said they would deliver it to the street in front of the address. I then explained that my wife and I are disabled, and needed it delivered to our apartment on an upper floor. That was why we needed it delivered, because we couldn't carry it up the flight of stairs to our apartment. He then said it would cost $10.00 more to bring it to our apartment, on top of the $40.00 delivery fee. We live only one mile from Menards.
We then told Tim (store staff) that we didn't agree with having to pay more than $40.00 just to have it delivered to our apartment. I explained that we recently bought a couch from Big Lots and had it delivered by the same guys who said they also delivered for Menards, and that there was no additional charge over $40.00 to put it in our living room. He stated it didn't matter, and that we would have to pay more if we wanted it delivered to our apartment. We said no, we wouldn't pay more, and he let us leave feeling extremely disappointed in Menards. We won't be going back after being treated this way. It's obvious getting more money on a delivery is more important than servicing good disabled customers.
Just because you are disabled does not mean you should get "special delivery" charges. If others have to pay the extra $10, then so should you! Don't use your disability as a crutch. The guy was following the rules and Menards uses an outside delivery service. The extra $10 (which is a very reasonable price) goes to the person that is delivering the chair, not Menards. Sounds like you want something for nothing, shame on you!

Had had to review the order and sign for it when you paid for it so you paid for what you ordered. It is not Menards fault that you did this. I buy at Menars all the time and things go great for me. Take responsibility for you own actions and do not blame otheres!
