Featured review
This review was chosen algorithmically as the most valued customer feedback.

On 6.14.2009 Menards nationally advertised the Quick Set Pool [protected]) for $16.96.
When I went to the store, there were flyers around stating that the "...wrong price was inadvertently inserted...the price should be..$44.88."

The store manager refused to sell the pool for the advertised price. He also refused to give me something in writing to the effect that he refused to sell it for the advertised price (though he did give me a copy of the flyer).

Then he sort of followed me out saying, "Everyone makes mistakes...I make them, you make them..." I told him I thought he was making a mistake right now, and that when I make a mistake, I have to pay for my mistake. He said, "I'm sure you do..."

Hey, here's an idea Menards...advertise "Everything in store FREE!" Then when customers show up, tell them the ad is a "...mistake. But since you've taken the time and energy to come to our store, how about buying something..."
No? Why not, because that would be FALSE ADVERTISING?

You think that Walmart will match any advertised price just because of their good nature?
No, they do it because retailers are LEGALLY bound to sell advertised items for the advertised price.

I submitted a claim to the FTC. All that and this over $30 difference.

"All Christmas Decor, Games & Toys 50% Off". This is advertised in the store and their flyer in the paper and the only disclaimer is "Off Menards Low Prices". Well it turns out that it's only off their low "regular" prices and not off sale prices. This could be construed as false advertising in itself, but on top of that, nearly all their Christmas stuff is already on sale which means when you are in the store, you look at a tag expecting to pay 50% less and in actuality, you're paying 50% off the regular price which in many cases is the same price as it's already marked. I used to be a hard core Home Depot shopper as the Menards stores used to be poorly laid out...in the past year, I've not once stepped into a Home Depot but I can guarantee that after this experience, I'll be going back to Home Depot and not Menards, not matter what their prices are.

Ummm, how much law do you know? Because a location advertises something for a price (mistake or not) in a flyer or on TV, etc, they do not need to sell you it at that price. It is only a "offer to negotiate".
If your thinking about a 'bait and switch' trick, then you don't understand what it means. It means they advertise you a product, but when you get there, they are quickly sold out, and they quickly try to sell you a DIFFERENT more expensive item.

Is this a serious complaint? What do you think 50% off means? 50% off the original price of the merchandise you are planning to buy. Menards gives the customer the benefit of the doubt by tagging the merchandise with the new price so they do not have to try to figure out what 50% off the original price is... If your that mad go back to grade school and take a math class.

THERE IS NO WAY THAT IS FALSE ADVERTISING

The inside back cover of the flyer states "We reserve the right to limit quantities and to correct printing and layout errors." This is the fine print on the ad. Before making a stink with the FTC, you should have read that. This is standard practice in the retail business, why would they do this just to make a lot of customers angry? This was obviously not done on purpose. Get over it.

and by the way, Menards is a regional company, so it wasn't a nationally advertised ad.

The ads read "off the Menards everyday low price" and have for many years now. This means the regular price (no brainer). Thats why it has the original price on the sale tag SO YOU CAN SEE IT'S 50% OFF! Your ignorance does not mean companies should have to lose money

I recall when this happened. The printing error came from the printing company who prints the AD'S not any specific Menard you choose to go to. People like you are a joke, thinks the world owes you something it that it does not.
