I received my new Big Card a few wks. ago (about 3-20-09) i am building a home and purchase a refrigerator from menards and put the purchase on the new Big Card. They managed to send me the Big Card but not my first bill. I wanted to pay the bill with my draw check from the title co so that i would not be billed finance charges. As i realized my bill hasnt come yet i called the Big Card to ask when my bill was due : customer service rep. said it was do the next day. I said i never got my bill yet. She told me i could pay it over the phone but there would be a $15.oo charge to do so. But if i paid it online it would be free: guess what-it wasnt free i still had to pay the $15.oo. so is this a scam of theirs? my big purchase on their Big card with the int. rate off 22% and late fees if i were to have paid it late. Which i didnt but if i wouldnt have called that day it would have been late. Menard better make good with me on this or I as a contractor will never go through their doors again. also I will do my best on having this situation investigated -Big card scam.

Mastercraft doors
Purchased a special order door from Mendards in Oakdale MN. Paid a lic. contractor $400 to install it in Sept 2008. The door is so warped that the slightest breeze blows it open. It is now March 2009 and we still don't have any resolution on this problem. Menards insists we deal with the door manufacturer, MasterCraft. Truth is neither one of them gives a...

Visited your 2102 East Springs Drive Madison, WI store on February 15, 2009 at around 5pm. We went in for two specific items, a bath tub spigot and pre-made shelf. On the way from the plumbing dept. to the other corner of the store, we went by the pet section and saw these pet pillows marked $4.95 closeout. We picked the one off the top of the pile, there...

Never again will i walk into a Menards anywhere, they don't speak to you when enter the store. Product they say is in-stock ISN'T. Then they don't even try to get you to order it if you want it. This place is worthless. Home Depot and Lowes you have nothing to worry about. You have a shopper for life.

I work in a WI Menards. I say Hi to people constantly, and many ignore me completely (some even looking at me as if saying hi is odd). You can't tell me 90% of customers even want to be bothered unless they ask for help, that's just a pissy complaint. Besides which, most customers don't WANT to order things out, I get ignored when I even ask half the time...not to mention the fact that a customer couldn't possibly just ask if they can order it.
I say HI to customers, I check the stock and then call the department to see if we have it, and I've check stock for other stores and had them hold stuff for customers. To say we don't make the effort is ridiculous. Every retail store is going to have some level of inventory issues, whether it's due to theft, unrecorded damage, or being rung up wrong in the registers. We do our damndest people!
My husband and I traveled from the northern tip of Stark County to go to Menards in Massillon. I don't know what happened to your experience - We were greeted wonderfully, great customer service, friendly, clear environment and knowledgeable. We'll travel it again real soon, as Lowe's and Home Depot has nothing on Menards. I was so worth the 30 minute drive one way.
Why did I agree to work for such a place?
I am currently a cashier at Menards. I have never seen such poor customer service by my superiors. For example...
It was around 6:50 or so on a Sunday night (keep in mind Menards closes at 7 on Sundays) I was helping a guest in my line who wanted to special order something from plumbing, I told her the store closed in about 10 minutes and that maybe she should come back the next day, however, she lived about an hour away. I called the FE manager up to have her contact the Plumbing manager to help this guest.
So the plumbing manager came and she went back with him and left her cart in my aisle.
I had a very long line and I was the only cashier, so I wasn't paying attention to this lady's cart. Eventually she came back with her special order after this she asked where her cart was. Sympathetically I told her I didn't know where it was but I said that maybe my manager moved it.
So, I called my manager to my aisle and the guest calmly asked her if she had moved her cart.
My manager freaks out and says "Look lady I didn't touch your cart!" I look at her like what the heck are you thinking talking to a customer like that!
Well after my manager walked away we found her cart, and the guest told me that she would never be shopping at Menards again.
Every time I work I have at least 15 guests tell me that they will never shop at Menards again.
Everyone who works at Menards is generally always in a bad mood, and it *** because when I walk into a store I want to be greeted with a smile and a "how can I help you?" at Menards it is the TOTAL opposite!
I would recommend to anyone reading this to take there business elsewhere like Lowes or Home depot, hopefully they have better costumer service.
Whenever anyone asks me where I work I am ashamed to say that I work at Menards.
I am so happy that I have a job interview tomorrow so I can quit the [censored]hole that they call a store.
Don't count on saving big money, I would recommend saving your time!

@LockJawCowboy Your a tool and a loser for thinking Menards is a great job! What are you talking about? Where do you come up with your rants? I have read several of your other posts, and I would like to ask how do you know the person's work ethic and job performance? Where you personally there to witness this? I doubt it and your making false assumptions. So, stop ### at people for stating the truth that Menards sucks to work for and treats employees like ###. For the record, I have a better career as a scientist that treats you as human being and is more challenging then working at this dead end job.
Rule number one Okkay! Take care of the guest. Talk about giving guest service, you told the guest to come back tomorrow. Let me tell you that is great guest service ###. If you would have done your job properly there would not have been this problem in the first place. Congrats on getting a new job where your going to tell them to shop some where else because they are wasting there time where ever you are at.
I'm sorry that you had such a terrible experience working for Menards, I have been with the company for over three years without a problem. I started out as a cashier just like you and I am now an assistant front end manager. I wonder what store you worked at because I have also worked at two stores both in the chicago area and both stores are great with customer service.
14 day return policy
Recently my family has purchased 10's of thousands of dollars remodeling our mothers home. those purchases were made in good faith. all the while thinking that if there were an issue, with a product we could take it back for a return and get a new one. However, in oct 2008 we purchased a stove, in dec 2008 we called menards stating that the hinges on the door would not closed. they refered us to the repair company and we called them, they came and fixed it, for a month, again called menards, they refered us again to the repair company, and this time when they came to repair it they said the first guy didn't put the hinges on right, two days later broken again, and we call menards. fed up we ask if we can return it, and the answer is NO returns don't happen after 14 days. they advised us that menards is not responsible for items sold from their store and that we would have to contact the repair company again. this time when we called we asked if we could return it and they said they only repair items and menards would have to ok the return. so again we call menards, so like a run around, it is. menards explained that they have contracted with the company to sell their items but after two weeks hold no other resposibility to the customer or the company. now we have to call the company to see if we can return it to them. oh what fun this is. while talking with menards i asked why the customer is not made aware of this arrangement. the answer, we don't have to. my question to everyone out there is, isn't this deceiption on the part of menards. my advise, go somewhere else, check out the return policy, and service company before your purchase. otherwise i might pass you this continuous circle we call junk service and even worse service.
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
everyone that is hired at menards have to know the return policy so i doubt they told you that... plus it is on the receipt as the above said but duhhhhh get your ### straight before you post stuff.
The return policy is written on every receipt.
The Menards return policy is as follows:
If you have your receipt and the return is being made within 90 days of purchase, you get either cash back or the amount is returned back on your card or on store credit.
If it's after 90 days, we give store credit
If you don't have your receipt at all, you get store credit period, no exceptions, whether it is within the 90 day limit or not.
As long as the product is sold in the store, we can take it back. The only exeptions are custom orders (for example: tinted paint, custom cabinets, ect.)
I've worked there for over a year and a half and have yet to hear of this mysterious "14-day return policy" for items other than holiday or seasonal. The only other thing that we have such a policy for is checks...we can't give cash back on a check that is less than 14 days old. The entire return policy is listed on the website...I would print it out and take it into the store and ask them where this 14 day policy is listed, (I'm pretty sure you would find out right then and there that it is a bunch of baloney) because I even work the returns counter at Menards and I can't make anything out of it!
Horrible company
Menards is a terrible company too work for Not steady work unrelaible income they want to own you! No one works there for long the place is awful
I wholeheartedly agree with what was said because there is no life with that place and they are disorganized and there is no work or life balance, because management and corporate don't care all they care about is taking care of the LAZY ones that don't want to do anything and promote them.
Menards is by far the worst job I have ever had! Seriously, the people praising Menards and calling us lazy need to stop bitiching at us for stating the truth and get there head out of the sand, because their masking the truth that this company could care less about their employees/customers and preventing them to change for the better. This job is the typical dead end job unless your in corporate. They use IPS and just enough benefits to lure unsuspecting people in, but it doesn't make up for the lack of pay and perks, no work/life balance, and the crap/harassment you have to put up with daily there from rude customers and clueless co-workers/bosses. All their money and benefits isn't worth your time and sanity to stay here in the long run. I used to work there for over 2 years and quit, because I found a better job with my degree. I got tired of being treated like s&*t by the mircomanageing and disrespectful managers and being taken advantage of for being a good hard worker. The hard worker never gets appreciated or feels a sense of accomplishment, and we get the rath of the GM's when things are not done right by others, because they know we will pick up the slack of the real lazy workers. The hard worker is the pack mule for this place since alot of workers are incompantant which means we get the s&*tty shifts, working every overnight, and closing then opening the next day. If your a good worker, it seems management wants you there during all hours of operation until you feel like your practically living out of your car as if you don't have a anything else going on in your life such as taking care of a house, family, etc. All in all, this place is a disorganzied hell hole and is ran by a bunch of greedy heartless people who don't value their employees hard work they do for them and don't give them proper compansion/benefits and rest. Stay clear of working here! I get payed more and better benefits, treated with diginity, enjoy my career, and have a work/life balance at my current job working 40-45 hours every week Monday-Friday.
How am I not surprised by your childish response.
I can agree with most of this. I had some items delivered to my house and when I asked them to back the truck up and unload the items in my garage they commented on why I couldn't unload the items myself. When I order a pizza, the driver doesn't ring my doorbell and make me get the pizza from their car. I find it ridiculous that they can treat their customers in that way. One of the reasons is probably the way management treats their staff. Favoritism is a huge thing at menards. Their slogan should be, kiss ### and be successful at menards. Yeah that's two syllables off but whatever. My girlfriend has been working their for over six months and has been written up twice because supposedly she did not fully stock an item. Of course the department head can not prove that the mistake was made by her, as their inventory system consistently is wrong. Negative 15 items in stock and there are 5 items on the shelf. More than one location for an item in the store but yet the computer system only shows one. Employees are told to stock the other locations that change all the time but yet are written up for 'walking around and wasting time'. Politics run rampant at many store locations and as usual management sticks together. Other departments make the exact same mistakes of not 'fully' stocking shelves and are just told to go get the item from the back and stock it. They are not written up, but yet my girlfriend was. You can expect management to blame their employees underneath them instead of being responsible and admitting to a mistake. They would rather let someone get fired for their own mistakes. Needless to say, she is looking for employment elsewhere where employees are not scapegoated for others mistakes. And to comment on the cashiers that don't get an actual dollar amount till count? You got to be kidding me. Just goes to show, if you want fair treatment, solid hours, lunch breaks at reasonable times and a business that values itself on making it's employees and customers happy across the board, (not just the ones they like). Then go to home depot or lowes. If you don't believe me, look up the history of the current owner of menards and how he would have his management go to competitors stores and buy all their stock of items they couldn't compete with so that customers were 'forced' to pay a higher price at menards. That is price gouging and it's unbelievable that this company is still in business. After my girlfriend quits, we will be reporting the circumstances to EEO and the BBB. No wonder menards has the highest hiring rate in the industry. Many people cannot stand to work there. I do understand that some stores can be fantastic depending on the experience and fairness of the management. But the store my girlfriend works at, the manager can't even show up on time to unlock the doors. Does he get written up or fired? Nope, everyone else does. Is there a hotline employees can call to complain about unfair treatment or racial discrimination? Because it seems to me that my gf's manager dislikes people of hispanic nationality. JUST PLAIN RIDICULOUS!
I feel that menards is a companey that cares more about the money they make then how they treat their employees. A lot of the polices are stupid and the things they expect us to do irritate guests more then help them. I too have been written up because my register was off however three other ppl were on it that day including a head cashier and because they only did one audit on it (later that night after everyone had been on it) they didnt know who had made the mistake so they wrote all of us up. When i first started working there i didnt believe it when ppl told me that the cameras were in the store to watch us not the guests but now i believe it. Menards doesnt back thier workers at all, one person who worked at my store, who was a good worker, always happy and friendly, extreemly poliete and helpful to guests got fired because some guest wrote to the general office and said they didnt like how they had treated them and found this person unfriendly. Any one who had ever worked with them would know that this was an all out lie by a mad customer. However instead of taking the side of the employee and try to find out what happend they just fired this person. I never in all my life worked a such a place like menards.
Menards is really good at using their employees to excess without giving the proper compensation. When I was working as a cashier I was written up for wanting to count my till. I counted it before I would start my shift and the front end manager yelled at me saying I wasn't allowed to count the money. On one day after being yelled at I counted my till again and the till came up 12. 00 short. I immediately called the manager on the walkie talkie and told her but she just yelled at me over the walkie talkie, later that day I was written up for counting my till. I ended up going to the Human Resources Guy and expressing my concern that if Menards wants me to be responsible for their money then I should have the right to count it to make sure that it has the amount of money that it was supposed to have. I was told I was able to count my money before I take it to the register in front of the manager. So the next day I went into the counting room thinking I was going to get to count the money in my till. But instead the manager weighed the money then handed me the till and told me it was fine. I pushed the issue that I was told I could count the money before taking the till which made the manager very angry at me and from that day forward it was obvious I was going to continue to be treated poorly. The harrassment continued from the management until I finally quit 6 months later.
To the person above, that has happened to me before and it is very fustrating. But most likely if its not you doing it you won't get written up again and it won't be an issue, unless the person that did it keeps handling money poorly and your always on the same register, , i guess, but it should work out
I think it's completely stupid that they write you up for having your drawer go over by 10.00 when they don't even know if it's you who did it or not. THEY DO NOT CHANGE DRAWERS DURING THE DAY, so anyone who was on that register that day gets written up because someone made a mistake. Don't get me wrong, being written up for something like that is fine with me but you have to have the proof (like different registers for each employee) that they were the ones that made the mistake because then you will know you did it and can watch closer next time. I work there and HATE it. I worked there two days and got a wrote up for that. That is a stupid thing to write someone up for that didn't even do it (Someone did but then everyone else gets written up too!). I think this rule is VERY unfair to people who may or may not have done something.
oops i meant the burnsville one did.. i always shop at the apple valley one lol
and by the way i dont think menards is a horrible company. i like working there. i just thought that rule was unfair
Worst service
I have spent about $7, 000 at menards this past yr alone to remodle my basement and re side my house. I went to Menards to order 2 custom sized Mastercraft doors for my basement remodel. I gave them my rough openings and they told me the door sizes that i would need. Not knowing anything about what doors would fit I agreed to what they said I would need. I...

I recently shopped at our local Menards store and noticed now that you have to bag your own purchases. I listen to all their advertisements about great service and now this happens, whats next? You might as well be ringing up your own puchases! After shopping at this store and spending our money I feel this is the wrong approach to customer service.
Serves you right to have to bag your own purchase. People who are @holes deserve to have to bag their stuff after seeing the way they treat employees!
I can't WAIT to see what people say if we ever install self checkouts there.
at my menards we bag them and so what if you have to at yours its not that big of a deal and lots of stores do that.
Maybe if you learn how to spell purchases we can bag them for you. By the way we have been self bagging for years.
So...lets go back to the "old" days of a 1x2 counter space instead of conveyor belts, and have the poor cashier(myself!) have to take all your items out of your cart, bag them, and return them to your cart, usually fighting our way throught piles of snack wrappers, kids shoes, coats, etc...Does this sound like an efficient way to do business? It is NOT, hence the belts and self bagging. Quit being a lazy ### and bag it. If you are elderly, disabled, or there is not another guest waiting, 99% of the cashiers can and do bag your items!
An employee, blackballing!!!
An employee at the Menards Store in Johnson Creek, John Kutz is blackballing, and telling some of my husbands customers, Wayne Hesse he does not like to refer them to him .It was because one of Johns friend, who sub contracted and worked with my husband. They had a falling out.So now John gives everything to his friend. And degrades my husband, who has been a good customer to Menards for years, one of Wayne's customer was told that they do not like to give Wayne.s name out. Wayne has never done anything to MR.KUTZ.Well, I will not ever buy anything from Menards again, who needs it.Home Depot gets all my business, from now on.John can say want ever he wants, but he works for Menards and does not own it.He may have worked there for years, but all customers should be treated the same.Regardless on you feel about them. They will not even hand his cards out, only John's friends cards. And to tell Wayne's customers that they would, recomend some one else.Well that is all I have to say.I think my husband sent a complaint also. But I wanted my say also.Thank You
Sincerely Julia Hesse
I know John Kutz and usually he is honest. But, he has a thing for his friend that is not normal (sick) but I'm sure when they split, like they always do, he'll hand out Wayne's cards again.
Thanks
People are rude
I work at a menards and cant believe the people we get. I work in the rec department and cant stand half the people i deal with. Ive been threatened, pushed, screamed at, cussed out, you name it. If people come to me and be a complete ### do you think im going to help you. We are understaffed and never have enough people working. People need to chill out and realize this. If someone has to wait an extra 5-10 minutes they freak out. I like my job, but hate the people that shop there. People wonder why they never get help, 90% of the people are complete ###s. Its not our fault if something comes in damaged or has not came it yet. People need to realize this and stop taking it out on the workers. Same goes for returns, its not the workers policy its the stores. Dont take it out on us, were just doing our jobs!
im sorry but i have no sympathy for a selfish whiney customer. what i also hate is how when they know you are on a break and they even say they know and they expect you to just help them and ###. today i was going home and wasnt even in uniform and this stupid old ### gave me this nasty look and i finally asked him what he needed help with after evily staring at me and he kept yelling "i cant hear you! every single time i said something. its rude to expect help when someone is not getting paid and are taking a break or not even working! and marcia D you cant just quit when you have a job there are bills to be paid and this econmy is tough.
I fyou don't like your job, quit! Working with the public sucks. People are rude, BUT that does not give someone the right to be rude back. Has your mother taught you nothing. If you try to approach people in a positive manner they usually repond that way. People have every right to be mad when they are paying for a product or service that was not recieved. You are not the only person in the world who has rude customers. Get a desk job in a closet if you don't want to deal with people. Otherwise...grow up. I have worked in retail for 20 years and for every bad customer I have I have 25 great ones. I don't let other people's bad days make mine that way. I was a store manager at the Home Depot, I know about the home improvement store business. I also know people at Menard's have bad attitudes and would have never worked for me. Try to keep the other side in mind when you wait on people, or get a new job.
tru dat
Awful place to work in
Menard's inc. is a HORRIBLE place to work the don't care about their guest or there team members they care about making money like the rest of America, so tell Menard's to stop ling in all there advertisements about caring about quality and service. They are full of s***, they force you to stay after they close and clean even when your schedule off at a time and tell you u cant leave until u finish. They wont let you take lunch unless u stay an extra half hour to make up for you taking a lunch. The owners of Menard's are piece of *** and need to learn how to help and take care of their employees Menard's inc. is a sweet shop of modern day. I hope Menard's goes out of business soon. and john and Larry Menard have to live on the street. Menard's *** and Larry and john r going to *** for their greed and how they treat people!

I couldn’t disagree more. Every time I’m at Menards, regardless of location, I am pleased with their customer service. After reading this review, and considering the grammar, spelling, and unnecessary use of profanity, I feel it is a disgruntled employee or ex employee looking for a handout.
The only people who work At Menards are people who can't find jobs at other places or have a bad background menards does not do background checks. loser menards. do not work there.
I have worked at Menards for a little over one year. I have seen the good and the bad, but then all companies have both. I have a dedicated Department manager that helps you in any way he can. The Assistant Department Manager is a joke, he talks bad about any guest that has ANY sort of complaints, and slacks off (delegates everything, and sits around). As a part-time employee the benefits are non-existant. With how (what they expect) treat heir managers, I would not become one. The other staff members are great, they help if/when needed. They come from other departments, which is great!
Menard's is a joke. I loved the place at first, then I realized it was a bunch of losers that are stuck in a highschool loop, brainless honky tonk hoes, and [censored] kissing soy boys that listen to Alan Jackson in their halloween costu... Er Wranglers and cowboy boots. Watched the store fall apart for years, through a remodel and an entire management change and the place is more of a joke than ever. The HR Coordinator couldn't coordinate his [censored] from a hole in the earth. He and several others follows my trail everywhere trying to find dirt on me and apparently thinks I don't notice. He's even got undercovers trying to follow me. This [censored] is unreal. I'm not that easy guy. And I'm recording everything.
If your a boring generic [censored]bag that likes to stand around and talk about football and pussy for the thousandth time today and got a 17 on your SAT then this job is for you while you get that super awesome Liberal Arts degree.
:D
I’ve worked at Menards for 2 1/2.Oddly the ones that I see slacking off usually quit. Hmmm. I for one think it’s a GREAT PLACE to work. I for one am not lazy. I take pride in my job. I adore my guests. I have those that request me. It’s true there are some manager that are egotistic. I for one am fortunate that our management isn’t. It’s unfortunate that so many of you had bad experiences. Not all of us that enjoy working there are lazy. I love a hard days work. Put it this way, so many times our GM will have the iPad doing the to do list and I’m already in the middle of accomplishing the task. I’m not a kiss [censored]. I was raised, “you see something needed done, do it/ if I tell once don’t make me tell you twice”.
I’m excited to get back. I miss my Menards family. I miss my guests. So understand folks, it’s not Menards in general, it’s a management problem, or lack of enthusiasm on ones part.
Buddy you're a [censored] [censored] I love working at Menards making money is the goal of every company. Saying they don't care about there guest is ridiculous they do. I've been here for 5 years and have had no problems if I even feel a little sick they tell me to go home they give you plenty of raises and everything else. And what do you mean that staying after is bad THAT'S CALLED BEING AN ADULT. Please if you want to slam a company again use proper grammar and know the facts you [censored]
You're delusional. You must've been a rotten employee. I love my job and the people I work with at Menards! ###.
I work for menards warehouse and i love my job,
Wow! For those of you who are whining about having worked at or are currently working at Menard's, get a life. You want a better job, go out and get one. You are not forced to work there or anywhere unless you want to. Work hard, be on time and do your job and you can go as far as YOU want. Also, if you think you are so much smarter than others than you should first learn how to spell and use punctuation when you complain. I started out five years ago and got more than the starting pay because I ASKED for it and had a good work history. Please quit if you don't like working at Menard's and let the rest of us do our job!
I am an employee and LOVE my job. My co-workers, the management and other managers are wonderful to me and the customers. I work at the world's largest Menards and we have many returning satisfied customers and happy employees
Rip off
I am a local contractor in an area where there are not to many places to get materials, so Menard's is the closest place. I guess the only complaint I have is that every time I order materials for a job (Menard's) will deliver only half of the materials to the job then try to charge me for another delivery.
Oh wait I have another complaint, I went in to order a roof package and the guy I spoke with told me to special order everything I needed so that it would all come in one package. Then after waiting two weeks I called to see if it was there and they told me yes but not all of it.
So I had to wait another two weeks for the rest of it. Well then it finally showed up, Then they told me it would be delivered the following week well that following week arrived and no materials. I just spoke to them and they said there is nothing they could do other than schedule another delivery for a week later.
So now I have been telling the customer that his roof will be done several different times do to Menard's #%&*-ups. This has happened on three different jobs you would think I would know better by now.

I worked for that Minot for about 3 mo, and I'm appalled. I was in the paint Department that ran fine under the manager that was on when I arrived. But she left (conflict of interest) and it all went to pits. None of the managers care about actually taking care of the customers OR their workers, just about getting that extra buck in the bottom line.
One particular event I remember was an elderly, disabled lady who came in with a 5 gal of paint on her rolling walker. It was watery, and after re-shaking it (company policy to ensure everything blended properly), it was still watery and took a few coats to even begin to coat a paint-stick. The previous manager said I only had to get manager approval and typically with defected buckets like this one, we'd replace it without a hassle. So I went to get the current department manager and he flat-to-my-face, in front of the customer, said "We've never done that." He then turned to the customer and told her that if they handled all the defects in paint, they would rot out the bottom line. The lady (and myself) was so appalled she left the paint and stormed out, telling customers of what transpired on her way out. It was a few weeks later that I stepped out and proceeded to pelt the manager with complaints everytime I came in as a customer. (We were trying to rebuild our flood-damaged home, and it's the only place to get supplies). Nothing ever changed.
Seriously, I'm surprised the store hasn't been reported. If you look on google, you'll see under the map 3 images that users selected: A broken lightbulb, a CEO laughing and counting the big bucks, and a CEO using big bucks to light a cigar.
We have also seen the great service at Menards/ Minot! They sell inventory that is not in the warehouse, no one knows where anything is and it took, literally, 3mo to get a replacement window that they informed us was in their magic door #22. After travelling nearly 200mi to pick up the window, on an 80 degree day with an infant in a carseat, I had to help search door #22 for a window that could not be found. Spent all of the day trying to sort this problem out, no one acknowledged an extremely irritable baby and even angrier mom. So furious at the passing of the buck, I told them I was leaving with a window...whether it was mine or not. Horrible service... If Lowes or Home Depot should come into the area, Menards would go belly-up! I did leave with a window that was not what we ordered. Hate to have to do business here, but cannot get competition into Minot. BTW, if you order nice Pella windows, cabinetry or custom countertop here, I have seen how these items are handled in the warehouse. If your incredible Pella window leaks the winter after installation or your countertop suddenly fractures do not be surprised. Alternatives are Menards of Bismark or Lowe's and Home Depot in Billings. If you are purchasing expensive products and need more than a tube of calk, the travel will pay for itself over and over.
Tim,
Have you spoke to the store manager about the delivery problem? What did he say the reason was for the delivery delay?
Terrible experience
I'm not writing about a bad purchase experience with Menards although I have some if you want them. I'm writing about my experience building a Menards. As a GC we purchase hundreds of thousands of dollars in materials from Menards and I would think that makes us a good customer but apparently there is no such thing with Menards. John Menard has created a company that specializes in walking all over anyone who stands in the way of a profit. I have never had such a hard time getting paid on any job before! We had the entire shell of the building up before they released a single dime! My excavator almost shut down the construction entrance with a his back-*** on the demand that he get paid. They used every excuse and lie to withhold payment. They flat out stole money from my contract and challenged me to try and sue them and their "office full of attorneys". I've never been so mistreated in my life. Maybe all big box stores are the same but for now I will take all my business to anyone but Menards. "Save Dirty Money at Menards" - God bless the little man.

Ask why store didn't have motorized carts for handicapped customers.was told it was because of insurance. can not shop there because i can not walk long distance if you had carts i would shop longer and spend more money . so you lose my business and others i am sure. the reason for not having carts is not because of insurance it is not a sufficient reason it is discriminating against the handicap. Lowe's have them so i take the bulk of my needs to their store i like your prices but it is a inconvenience to shop in your store.
Welcome to the real world, you pompous, self-centered a**. First, it does not matter whether you spend one dollar or "hundreds of thousands" of dollars, EVERY GUEST is a good guest. Why should you be any more of a "good" guest than the little old lady who spend only $10 for a new toilet seat? The amount of money you spend is completely irrelevant. Do you expect "special" treatment at your grocery store or gas stattion. Try this, you blithering idiot - next time you go to the gas station or grocery store, ask for the manager when you get to the cashier. When the manager arrives at the checkout, tell them that you spend "lots" of money in their establishment, and then ask if they will sell you the gas or milk at last week's sale prices (or a discount) - because you are such a "good customer". Perhaps the irritation you feel at the response you receive will cause a fatal heart attack, leaving more air for intelligent folks to breathe. Second, why would you expect payment BOFORE the job is complete? When you FINISH the job you get paid! No-one is going to "release a dime" for a shell of a building - you have unreasonable expectations. Get a life!
im sorry but if you go to the store alone and are a handicapped...then you need someone else with you...the world isnt suppose to just change at your cost...i work at menards and yeah i feel bad that we dont have a lot of wheelchairs, but handicapped shouldnt be alone in the store...or bring your own goddamn wheelchair...###s...what else do you "special" "privaliged" people need? want us to do your shopping for you? bag your ### at the ###ing "self-bagging service"? wipe your ### and hold your hand around the store? get your ### together and dont shop alone if you need a wheel chair...if you are a handicapped, have a damn chair or walker with you.
I used to work for a Menards in Rochester. They had like maybe one chair for all the people who had trouble walking. I would feel bad or those people and always wondered myself why they are so inconsiderate not only with their employees but also their customers too. That's terrible. I lost my job there this Sunday because they discriminated against me for my gender. They knew I was pregnant and therefore entitled to rights by law to keep my job. It's not that I have become irresponsible; I was just unable to live up to all these expectations in my life. They don't care.
god bless you too. that really sucks that they couldn't pay you all the while they were misleading and everything but short of stealing from everyone else
Sam,
Did your contract say that you would get paid during the construction or when it was 100% done?
Awful service
I bought several items with a check of $120 at Appleton West. Got home found I bought 2 wrong items. Returned the next day and they gave me an in store credit, sent me through check out to repurchase. 2 weeks later, wife returned with $11 of extra unused still packaged project parts while she was in town. They gave her an in store credit claiming she bought items with a gift card even after I told her to expect cash and after an argument with supervisor. I went back, calmly explained all this and received cash and a "I don't know why they did that". We live 30 miles from this store in Ogdensburg, closest store. The person at the store gave me a customer survey slip to send to corporate. I sent it and Arlene sent a letter back stating there store policy is clearly printed on every receipt. What that had to do with my inconvenience is beyond me. The cash I got only paid for gas to go back. What they did was way out of line. I have several other complaints over 20 years of problems I will post here about Menards. Stay tuned...

I got home didn't have black flag spray i bought i called to tell them cause i couldn't come back in tonight or tomorrow cause i work by time i get off they will be closed it being labor day i called the girl asked me if the door nobs i bought were they in a box or plastic container {i gave her the numbers of bottom of recet} asked what color the bag of potting soil i bought! I asked talked to manager i got hung upon. I called back after the 5th time was talking to the manager while he was talking to some one else i asked him if he was listening he said yes then asked me what was i saying! Didn't get the spray just rude people.
You received an in store credit because like all retailers in the United States, checks takes 14 days to clear. If you had waited 14 days you would receive cash. This policy has been the industry standard for 25 years.
.
On the second return I assume you did not have a receipt or the return was still within 14 days of the check being written. Among the competitors Menards has the MOST lenient return policy and continues to be the industry standard for guest service.
.
All return policies are clearly posted above the returns counter and on the back of all receipts.

I've never realized
I never realized what a slip shot operation Menards is. I was always a big Menards fan until they built their new BIG Menards. I always felt like I was getting a good deal in the older smaller store; now I see that we the consumers are paying for the newer bigger store. The prices have definitely increased in the goods I used to buy regularly at the old store. Now, I am reading about how Menards is so bottom line money grubbing, not caring about hiring quality knowledgeable employees, not fair to their employees...it sickens me. I think I'll make a switch to the Home Depot.

What company isn't about putting money on their bottom line? Do your research Will...while prices are going up everywhere, Menards is still the lowest price. And, while we are opening new stores consistantly, HD is closing stores across the country. By the way, Menards cares more about its guests than depot and lowes...they only care about their stock holders.
Will,
If you haven't noticed, everything in the world is going up in price. Go ahead and price shop, HD may beat Menards on a few things, but for majority of the items Menards will have them beat. Good luck finding someone who will say hi to ya at depot.
I will not be back again
2 months ago I started a simple 12x20 deck project, to my concern about previous menards encounters my wife talked me into going back to purchase the Ultra deck Fusion decking and railing system. Needless to say I still am not done with the deck, for starters we special order the decking and can no do it over the phone with a credit card, so I have to drive 50 miles to pay for it. Second it was a delivery date of 7 days which turned into 21/2 weeks and then to top it off the railing system was wrong. Reordered and had to wait, by now my deck stringers are all twisted from drying out. Finally get to installing the hand railing and find out that I got F_cked again, they did not give me the correct handrail insert, I had to go to the web site myself and tell the dip s_it at the counter what I needed, Thanks Menards for all the Headache and wasted gas to and from, I WILL NOT BE BACK AGAIN.

I ordered the UltraDeck Fusion to replace my 12x12 wood deck and I absolutely love it! It was a simple process for me. I simply measured to see gow many boards I would need, and ordered them from the Menards website. I was able to track my order online to find out when it would arrive. It was a great experience on my end! :)
Wow is all I have to say. Great job taking ownership blaming a botched order or delivery on a vendor YOU chose to hire. Menards would have your [censor] if it knew you were online representing thier business on a complaint board defending a mistake that was made. In good business you take the hit and assume the responsibility if there was a mistake... regardless of whether you outsourced to another company. Sure this guy got "[censor]" (real professional) with someone... that is also "how it is" in the industry you are in. Try working for a call center... then again please don't. Have fun hating your jobs until you get real ones.
I have been with Menards for 8 years and i have never known them not to take a credit card over the phone. There is alot of information that we need, things that someone with a stolen credit card would not know. On the special order contract it says ESTIMATED DATE OF ARRIVAL. With the emphasis on ESTIMATED. You come into Menards and expect to have everything handed to you. Well guess what it is not their deck it is yours! They are there to make sure that you get everything that you want and need. They are not there to tell you what color or what size or how amazing it may be when it is done. They are there to help you make your project as easy and affordable as possible while still giving you great value. Menards has professional estimaters there 5 days a week. All you have to do is give them your blue prints and what you would like it to be constructed of and they will do the rest. Do they sometimes make mistakes yes. That tends to happen in everyones lives.
I don't know what you might consider "a simple 12 x 20 deck project" based on the information you provided, but it sounds like you started the "project" before you had all the materials. Rule of thumb; over compensate on the materials you will be using, its better to be safe than SORRY. Besides you can always return the leftovers to Menards. I currently work at Menards as a recieving/lumber yard team member. We handle all of the lumber and decking as well as the special orders. However, we only recieve them. The employees at the building materials desk place the orders. I encounter customers (or guests as Menards would like us to call them) who have or have had problems with their special orders. Like the comment says before me, it is most likely the vendors fault. It is possible there may have been some miscommunication between you and the building materials associate upon ordering the item, but we have no control over the order or when it will get there. So the next time you have a complaint. Make sure its with the right company.
Your the problem. I work at a menards. You cant expect the guy who sold it to you to know that the item would be wrong. We sell thousands and thousands of items, you cannot know everything about every item. Im sure you got ### with someone about the order time. Most likely a receiving team member, how would it be there fault. If it took longer than expected its not the stores fault its the vendors. The reason for not taking credit cards over the phone is due to high rates of credit card theft and abuse.
Scam and fraud
I am sorry to bother you again, I sent an email in regards to getting rehired with the company, if possible contact me at [protected] or email me. When it comes to working i am a hard and a dependable worker thank you for taking the time to read this i hope i could hear from the company.
Bad customer service
We were building a deck and decided to go to the store a week ahead of time to order the wood. The order was printed out on a piece of paper for the clerk to enter and she did so - we went to the front of the store and paid. We had scheduled delivery for the following Sunday. When they came to deliver the boards this huge truck comes and drops off 20 20ft...
