I work at the Clive store and have for the last four and a half years. I enjoy the work that I do, but the managment is horrible. I don't feel like I get any where when trying to go to a manager. Mike Goode is the type of manager that can't manage the store. He is a good person in general, but as far as problem solving, he can't. I feel like he puts alot...

Menards 1,000 dollar door

My wife picked out a certain type of door with blind inside the glass. I thought we were getting a good door being it was a CRESTLINE. First problem is that the door was and is not square. I did not know this until after the door was prepped and in the door jamb. My wife tried using the blinds. Both sides did not operate correctly. Either getting stuck half way up or not moving at all. The blind themselves were damaged inside causing some blinds to come together causing a opening. I called the company - WARNING #1 : Warranty was from the date they made the door. Not when I bought the door. Good thing I called right away because they had to specially make the door glass and that was going to take 6 weeks. The guy brought out the replacement glass for both doors. It look as if it was going to rain. So he decided it's not worth having the opening while it could rain in. No tarp? SO he comes back again. This time he opens the crate and finds it is the wrong glass. So he orders another set. This time 6-8 weeks more. He finally comes and replaces the glass in the doors. Repairs made but the blind now falls back down once the slider pulls the blind to the top. WARNING #2: CRESTLINE doors are crap! $1, 000 dollars of blue collar money wasted. I should have gone to PELLA.

Menards My car damaged

When I was shopping inside Menard's store, my car in Menard's parking lot was hit by a shopping cart. It caused a damage to my car. I found the shopping cart next to my car when I walked out of the store.

Now Menard's denied the responsibility of my car's damage. I think it is not fair. My car was damaged by their property but I as their their cutomer need to take the loss.

Menards Awful treatment

I work at Menards. The way they treat their employees is absolutely awful. It's no wonder that their is a work shortage in this corporation. I know many part time employees that work at least 70 hours a week. Managers are apathetic to the feelings of their employees. An example being when a department manager walks outside to find a product for a guest, only to leave a new employee at the desk by himself totally overwhelmed. The verbal abuse from customers also goes unchecked. The work is not matched by the pay received. If you plan on working at a Menards retail store, this is a warning that they cover up the true image of the franchise with benefits. I have yet to see a penny of my 500 dollar sign on bonus.

Also, Menards doesn't have a signing bonus. This isn't the military or professional sports. If they have one, its probably for corporate or manager positions not for full time or part time positions. So, we have no clue on what your talking about.

To all the people saying were lazy and have no work ethics. Screw you and get a life! Retail is one of the worst jobs out there. Why don't you find a real, more skilled job that you actually have to work hard at (I have one with my college degree) in the real world outside of retail. Oh wait, you can't. Sucks to be you guys. That's why you people think its the greatest job out there. News flash, Menards sucks to work for and is the typical dead end job unless your in corporate. They use IPS and just enough benefits to lure unsuspecting people in, but it doesn't make up for the lack of perks and pay for the work done, no work/life balance, and the crap up you have to put up with daily there from rude customers and clueless co-workers/bosses. All there pay and benefits don't make up for that. Management is a joke and most are unqualified for the position. Alot of them have no idea how to run a business, lack professionalism, micromanage, and they don't appreciate their employees hard work. If your a good worker like me, it seems management wants you there during all hours of operation until you feel like your practically living out of your car as if you don't have a anything else going on in your life such as taking care of a home, family, etc. The hard worker never gets appreciated or feels a sense of accomplishment, and we get the rath of the GM's when things are not done right by others, because they know we will pick up the slack of the real lazy workers. The hard worker is the pack mule for this place since alot of workers are incompantant. The benefits Menards gives full timers are laughable, especially your health insurance coverage/cost and vacation days intially. Seriously, why do you have to wait a year to get vacation days and no sick days? Do you think people never get sick or get burnt out? Really, good companies know workers need a break once in a while and offer some sick days! This is why you guys have such high turnover. This place is a joke and is ran by a bunch of greedy heartless people who don't value their employees hard work they do for them and don't give them proper compansion/benefits and rest. Stay clear of working here! I get payed more and better benefits, treated with diginity, and have a work/life balance at my current job working 40-45 hours every week Monday-Friday.

I have worked at the Moline Menards for the last five years under two GM's. The job is a piece of cake if your willing to learn what the products you are selling do. This way the guests wont think you are a dummy. I also have never heard of a "signing bonus". This is not the NFL. Sure, the pay is not the greatest ever but there is a weekend premiun pay bonus and if you worrk 1000 hour in the calender year you are eligible for IPS (instant profit sharring). Plus, they department managers have you fill out an avalibility sheet when you start working so they know when and when you cannot work. So, either you are a liarface or your manager was a dick.

You can get ahead at Menards - IF you are willing to be a corporate slave. If you are willing to take crap from 'guests' and management alike. If you are willing to do WHATEVER they tell you, even if it's harmful to your health. Like lifting things that you say are too heavy, working outside in the hot summer or cold winter without proper breaks. Being willing to be thrown in whatever department they decide they want you in. (like you're hired for Wallcoverings and they move you to Hardware) You have to watch who you talk to and don't talk to and heaven forbid you express your 'disagreement' with anyone above your head. They will find a way to use it against you. They will sometimes mess with your schedule just so you will get write ups and too many write ups = fired.
It may be like that with every 'corporate' business, this is the only I ever worked for.

to the last response of all complainers are lazy, i was just hired an i worked my tail off this wkend and I have an issue with another higher employee who is favored by a manager and gets away with crap. I confronted him this morning and he went to that mnger, i was sent to the office, cut my finger later and he wouldnt find me a bandaid or nothing, pretty much ignored me most of my shift! Our store managers and dept managers work their tails off, I love working with people but I agree some mngment don't care and it is sad to read some of these blogs... I am a hard worker, but there are little things that when u are new you have to watch who toes you step on so you dont go to the office.

LOL! You must be delusional if you think Menards is a good play to work for. Is that all you supporters of employment at Menards have to use as a rebuttal is the old get a job or work ethic card? This is why Menards is not allowed to change for the better, because you people just stick your head in the sand when confronted with this. Don't be fooled by people like obf that say Menards is a good place to work for. obf, why don't you find a "grown-up" career if your such a great worker. In truth, Menards is a "dead-end job" and not an employee friendly place. Thank goodness I got a college degree. The company I work for now is complete 180 of this place.

Ill be completely honest here, The menard's i worked for was great till the change in management. which lead to a new manager from out of town, not knowing any of his employees marches in and states im not here to push a broom or help you but here to guide you. that makes since and all but if I'm standing there with a Thousand dollar door, glass panels and your the store manager and the only other person around. you don't stand there and watch me struggle, you come help me so you don't have a mess or paper work to do later. With my new found hate for the new store manager i found myself in a dilema facing a bad untrained staff and myself with being part time and them trying to overrule my work availability with school. they attempted to schedule me over my school hours and as well tried to write and fire a lot of us for our availability. instead of just hiring more people which they said was out of the question. By the way what i mean by untrained is my first day and from about every employee on is i got to job day with no experience with a forklift and i was told to get on it drive back and forth and i was done.
giving every answer to all the writing test and the video test as well. it was basically like having my cheat sheet under my desk at school but in plain sight.

Yeah menards base pay is ok for a person who is in college. The bonus or overtime pay is a joke and most of all the management is a joke. To me it seems they have poor managment from some of the decisions and ways they problemsolve and do things. Half of the managment in this company dont even have a college degree and for them to call the shots and problemsolve... I think a kid in high school could perform better. Only the people that dont go to college and get into managment think its a great place. They have no training in how to make things work in a business. As for employee rights I think they break that all the time. Makeing a part-time employee work over 40hr a week 11hr a day... yeah ok give us some full time pay.

I worked for Menards for almost 5 years, it was a happy experience overall. I have never heard of a "sign-on bonus" even being offered. If you work the long hours, you get paid a decent paycheck. I consistently worked about 50 hours per week, nice overtime checks. Got extra $$ to work on weekends, too. Good bonuses also. Most people I worked with had little or not experience beforehand, but they have a good training program. No where else can you make that kind of money with no experience or college degree. I always felt like we treated out customers like we wanted to be treated ourselves, but obviously you can't please everyone.
What "franchise" are you talking about? This is a company-owned store. There are no franchises. You must be mistaking this for McDonald's.

Spent $11, 287.56 on a deck that after a year looks worse then cedar decks it replaced that was 17 yrs old. I have been requesting correction from the builder. (Mecca Construction) and Menards for over a year. Menards sent an inspector last year. Never heard anything. Biewer Lumber sent Mark Vetter after I called Mecca again.

Menards Sold damaged patio table as new

We purchased a patio bistro table at the Jackson, MI Menards 6-20-08. The carton had been re-taped but we thought it was only handling damage. What a surprise when we got home, it was easy to tell this table had been sold and assembled before. The paint was chipped on all 4 corners of the table, yet it was sold as new! The exchange process cost over 75 miles round trip and 3 hours elapsed time. What a waste of time because of careless employees at Menards. They didn't offer anything extra for our gas, time, & trouble.

Careless employees? Like its the employees fault, ha. If a guest comes in being a complete dick or hands me a ticket and tells me to pull it, do you think im going to be so carefull with your items. You should have checked out the item before you bought it. Would you buy a package of eggs if the carton was crushed? Its your fault and what do you want a ###ing gas card for your troubles? Go shop at the depot there so much better!

Menards Menards thinks this will blow over

I was injured at Menard's located on 53rd Ave in Davenport, IA.

I was looking for some 1x4x8 boards, and acquired the help of an employee. The employee was up on the second level of Aisle G out in the lumber yard. I asked the employee to hand me down a couple boards at a time, and the idiot employee handed me down 6-7 boards at the same time.

I grabbed the boards from above my head, and lowered them down to my chest and proceeded to lower them down to the ground while squatting. The employee dropped his end, and I bore the full weight of the boards, and heard a bang, as the boards hit the hand rail about 5 feet above my head.

Immediately I felt something large hit me on the top of my head, and I dropped to my knees. Apparently, a fire extinguisher was hit by the boards and it hit me in the head.

I was totally shocked, and got nauseous, and had some blurry vision. I went and found a manager, and filled out an accident report and my wife drove me to the ER, where they performed a CT scan and discovered I had a mild concussion.

The manager of Menards, Mike, informed me that someone would contact me on Tuesday. I called the store manager on Wednesday and talked to him about it, and he made me feel like it was not his problem and that someone will call me about it eventually.

I didn’t get a call by Thursday, so I called and spoke to the manager again, and he was upset that I had called him and said that he had other things to take care of and asked if there was anything else I needed. I informed him that I will be getting a lawyer and he said, and?

I am pissed that the fire extinguisher was just resting on a perch, and was not attached to anything. It was hanging on a plastic bracket, and that it fell so easily. I have video on my phone after the fact. Showing just how unstable it is on the perch it was sitting on. And I also took some pictures of it as well, for the lawyer.

I am pissed that Menards thinks this will blow over.

They don't have district managers or regional managers. They have General Managers at each location. You should have known you weren't paying the full amount from the beginning. Didn't you think it was odd when you got to the register?

The information you gave about the fire extinguisher is false. I have been to the Menard's in Davenport and I know that the extinguishers are not just resting on persches. They are attached to the 4x6's that hold up the top level and 6 1x4x8's is just like carrying 3 2x4x8's, which extremely light. Not to mention that they are Kiln dried so it's not like they are saturated with water. By the way, Davenport Menard's aisle G is a self serve aisle therefore he did not have to help you!

We purchased carpeting for 4 bedrooms, a hall, and stairway at Menards and were told it would take 7-10 days to arrive. Three weeks later it finally came in. The rooms have been emptied of furniture and the old carpeting is gone. I have taken a day off from work. The installer starts to lay down the carpeting and discovers that each roll has been cut too...

Menards Bad service

We bought materials for a pole shed last year. The materials were delivered late and arrived just two days prior to a snowfall that didn't melt until April (those of you in Wisconsin know what I'm talking about). Due to the early snowfall, not only were we not able to put the shed up, we weren't able to sort through the stacks to see what had or had not been delivered. By the way, I didn't think I HAD to inventory them. We just finished building our house. Those materials were purchased from a reputable building supplier. I never had a reason to inventory anything they delivered. They simply delivered what I paid for. Menards, to the contrary, does not necessarily deliver what you paid for. This was demonstrated, first, by the failure to deliver a door. When we discovered the door was missing, we argued for a time with the store but the door eventually was delivered (I realize now just how lucky I was). Today, however, when we realized an entire shipment (3 packages in total) of screws was missing, the store told us, "tough luck." Too much time has passed. If it had been within a couple of weeks of delivery, MAYBE we could have done something. Okay -- so that means that we DO have to inventory everything (I'm talking hundreds of items in an order for a pole shed) within a couple of weeks of delivery or you're out of luck. I have to say that even if we were able to start building last year, we still wouldn't have known the roofing screws were missing within two weeks unless we had done a complete inventory upon delivery. So now I have to shell out more money to pay for screws I already paid for. Way to go, Menards. I can tell you I will NEVER order anything from you again. I would rather pay a premium to get it through Lowe's or a building supplier.

I was in need of a lawn sweeper, this morning I visited the Menards store in Kokomo Indiana. they had on hand abou 5 lawn sweepers that would have worked, I had seen an add in the locals paper advertizing a 42 inches lawn sweeper at rural king for $199.00 the one in your store was the same make and same type made by agri-fab, Yours was selling for $269, 00. I was under the thought that you people matched and reduced the price by 10% as in the past. but the clerk manager said the models or the one sold by Rural king was not the same as the one sold by your store. They were exactly the same sweeper. a 42" tow lawn sweeper. I am disappointed in the service I received. I have spent many dollars at your stores and thinking maybe you would rather I go on down the street to lowes to give them mmy business.

Menards get around this by buying in bulk then they have some small change from all other models then they can say its a different model, which it is. Example a Black and Decker drill at menards may have a 8 foot cord but the rest is the same as everyone else's but they have a different model number for that reason.

I'm sorry, but I would've told you the same exact thing. If it's been more than a few weeks, that's not really the company's problem, it's yours. If you're irresponsible enough to not inventory things, you put too much trust into companies.

Menards My bad experience

I am a disabled person who is in need of an electric cart. When I came into the store, there were no standard carts. The wheel chair cart was too small, and there are no electric carts available. Therefore, I was unable to shop at your store. Store also does not have any seating such as benches or chairs to rest on throughout the store. Spoke with manager and manager said he had requested more carts and electric carts three or four times in the last several years and has not received a response from HQ yet. This shows that Menards does not have any respect for disabled persons has a right to shop and has needs as well. Had to shop at Lowe’s because they have electric carts.

People are so rude. I am able to do diy projects and I am able to choose items for others I hire to install. But I can not walk the store several times to find what their employees will not point out. I do not care if Menards have carts or not however since I shop at home depot who has the carts, showing they care about my business.

Bring your own cart. All I ever see on tose carts is FAT people! I would not supply one to you either. Wal-Mart does so shop there where all the fat people shop. Lose some weight and then walk around like everyone else. If you can't even do something as simple as shopping at menards, how can you do any DIY project around your house?

You are the excepti0ns not the norms. If every business catered to you they would be out of business. You are not more special than an able bodied person. You have more limitations that is the extent of it. You need to adapt to our world, not the other way around.

Why would Menard's order more electric carts for someone to use. I am also handicapped and management knows that overall the people who are going to require electric cart s are not going to generate revenue like catering to able body customers. Dollars and cents!l. Their big money is in "Building Materials" It's a question of the accountants putting the money where they are going to get the biggest bang for the buck$$$

No need to thank me menard's I'll just have my son push me around in one of your overpriced factory seconds inferior wheel barrels.

P.S. I suggest you install blinking strobe lights on sticks like Kmart use to have when someone wants service. I have to whistle like I'm at a football game when I see one of the clerks out dodging me. If you clerks don't like your job quit or learn to deal with customers instead of walking the other way at 15 miles and hour when you see someone trying to find help.. I know I'm not alone on this complaint!

Menards Terrible service

I need to travel 40 miles to my nearest Menards. Menards of Marquette has been doing a lot of expanding and moving inventory around.

It is a nightmare trying to find things and it has always been difficult to get any help! You can watch as you approach an employee they seem to turn and hide. Menards has lack of employees.

I would like to see Menards of Marquette have a manned information centre with maybe detailed floor plans to pass to any consumer with questions on where to find certain products or information.

If Walmart can afford greeters, Menards ought to be able to find a retiree, to man an info centre cheap!

The floor plans at Menards change all the time. It sounds like you happened to stumble into yours when there were redesigning there's. And that manned information center you were talking about? It's called the service desk. Just go up there and tell the nice man or lady what you need, and they will either call somebody up to direct you to the product or tell you how to get there. There's always somebody there, and they can't turn away! The reason I know this is because it's my job to work service desk, and I deal with this every day. Just be nice, please!

Menards Product on sale, sold out, but still selling

Bought a patio set on sale, but then found out this store did not have all the pieces. They sent us to two other stores in two different towns. Each store was supposed to have our missing items, not! We then asked them to order the items. Couldn't, item discontinued, but item in sale flier for another week! At the third store, a couple was going to get a rain check for the same set. I told them it was discontinued. They had the employee check it and yeah, dah, no rain checks allowed. Item discontinued. We ended up getting our money back.

This is my complaint with MENARDS store located in Melrose Park, IL. Store Manager who will remain nameless needs to take a course in Customer Care and Relations Class 101.

I purchased a snow-blower that was on sale and displayed in front of the store upon entering. The unit was assembled and looked new. The unit was marked down by $15 dollars. I inquired why the unit was marked down and was told the first buyer had put the wrong gas in the unit and couldn't start it.

Now I agreed to purchase the 24" MTD SNOW-BLOWER with my Menards credit card and paid for delivery with total balance was$689.00.

I got a call from Menards later that evening. The person informed me that they couldn't get the blower started. I said OK I'll be in the next day to have all credit transactions reversed.

I got another call 3hours later from Menards stating the snow-blower is now starting, and delivery date is still scheduled. The blower was delivered and stored in my garage. Two weeks later a huge snow storm hit us, well I'm ready with my NEW snow-blower.

Except one problem, it won't start. I tried over and over again, nothing. Eventually I called Menards and spoke to The Manager who informed me that I should look at the small print on my packing list which states no returns.

Mr. Manager, I'm not a happy "Guest" right now so I offered to buy a new snow-blower even if it cost more. NO, said The Manager. Now I'm thinking you turned down a chance to make a better deal and you said no. So I asked to speak to his superior, his reply was no he has no superior.

So he gave me the address and phone number to a company that takes the warranted machines and other units for Menards.
I informed The Manager that I was going on line to E-Mail a complaint against him for his total unprofessional conduct over the phone.

The next day an employee was sent to my home to see if they could start the snow-blower, but he couldn't, and was told to leave the snow-blower there.

So I paid a delivery charge again for a pick up and delivery to the recommended repair company. I was just informed today that the blower was fixed.

The repair company informed me that the gas tank had water in it, the oil had water in it, and the carburetor had water in it. Total repair cost $117.00. I would like for Menards to pick up the repair and delivery cost. I agreed to buy a working snow-blower, not a snow-blower that needed repairs.

Sincerely Yours, Unhappy "GUEST" Mr. Byers

The Manager was partially correct about the replenishment system. The restocking of shelves is far more complicated then at first glance. There are 9 ways to restock shelves which include computers. If an empty shelf is not caught by the operating system then there might be a bigger problem, possibly an incorrect count or vendor backorder. Menards spends 2x the industry average on restock and adjustment.
.
The items you were looking for should have been looked at as soon as you mentioned it and I hope that the problem has been fixed. If you do not find the first person you speak to receptive then ask for the next manager higher until you get a straight answer.

Recently, I have gone to Menards to purchase items from the plumbing, electrical, and the seasonal deparment. In my last three visits they were out of the items.

I approached the Pewaukee, Wisconsin manager, Dave, about Menards practice of keeping their shelves full. I was told that replenishment is done strictly by computer. Obviously this does not work.

I suggested that department managers, upon coming on shift, to a visual walk through of their departments. Upon noting empty bins to go on their own website to see when items will be coming and put a sign in the spaces where no products are to be sold.

This is simply good customer service. Menards does have a definite problem if the rely solely on their computers as delivery is to occur twice a week. I asked the plumbing department manager when the last item (the item I was looking for was sold). It was over a month ago! So delivery every two weeks is not happening if Menards are relying solely on their computer for ordering.

Menards We were unable to use coupons because we did not have a big card

We bought several items last week and when we checked out we were told we could not use the coupons we got in the mail or paper because we did not have a Big Card. Don't send us the ads then. We buy most of our materials at Lowe's since it is closer to us. Most of our friends use Menards and we were satisfied with the products we bought just not the service. No where in print could we find the fact that we must use a Big Card to purchase coupon the items we wanted to buy there.

I'm an employee at my local Menards, and I'm sorry that this happened to you. I've seen all kinds of coupons that we have, and very few actually require a Menards Big Card. It's quite possible that your cashier was mistaken about the coupons, or maybe it was even their first day being a cashier by themselves and their training was not handled properly. Either way, I'm sorry that you had this experience. I hope that you will shop at Menards again in the future.

I suggest you speak with a store manager and show them the coupon in question. Menards does not typically send mass mail coupons. The ads are for use by everyone. The only coupon that requires a Big Card are the coupons sent with the Menards Big Card credit card statement. Another popular coupon that requires the Menards card is 10% off all purchases with the Menards card. The terms are clearly stated.

Menards Unlawful restraint plus

I went to Menards in Marion, IL. on April 9th to pick up a window 24"x30". I was ask to drive around the back on the store for pick up. The guard at the gate told me, door 9. An employee of Menards put in my back seat as I asked. I drove back to the gate. When I stop at the gate the guard asked to look in the trunk. I said, "no the window is in the back seat." The guard didn't even look in my seat but said "you are not leaving till I look in your trunk!" I said, "You are no looking in my trunk when the item is in the back seat." (This now is a unlawful restraint.) The guard call the police. I told the police officer they had no reason to look in my trunk. Will the trunk was opened. The guard then started looking in my bags, ask if there were shoes in the shoe boxes and did they come from ***"s Sporting Goods? Then look at all my other bags with more guestions. Closed my trunk and opened the gate I was free to go.

I was sick...

It's not unlawful restraint, it's a legitimate request based on the legitimate concern that there could be something in there that's not paid for. By being so adamant about the guard not looking in the trunk you "red flagged" yourself as a potential thief, which is probably why he so thoroughly went through your personal belongings. If you had just popped the trunk when he asked you to he probably would have taken a quick glance and sent you on your way.

Maybe if you would look at the huge 4 ft by 4ft sign before you enter the yard that says your vehicle "including the trunk" will be inspected upon leaving, you wouldn't have this problem? they checked your trunk because like many other retailers Menards suffers from theft, especailly through people loading merchandise in the yard that was not payed for and attempting to leave through the gate with it. I am sure if you made a living on retail you may have the same concerns for protecting your merchandise? My suggestion is not to have any skeletons in your trunk next time you try to leave a lumberyard gate...

I bought windows from this Menards store. I gave them the exact window size opening. When I went to have the contractor install the windows, the contractor said that because of the rough opening that the customer service rep put in the windows were made smaller than the size that I ordered and now they don't fit. I took the windows back to the Menards store...

Menards Rebate

I just got my rebate back from Menards and am very upset to find out it can only be used in the Menards store. I've never seen a sign or ad that said "Rebate for in-store credit".

They do NOT put it in BOLD print that the rebate has to strictly be used at Menards. It is hidden in small print, even on their flyers.
I just sent them this email: We have spent a lot of money over the years at Menards, but I do have a complaint. If you are going to give the customer a true "rebate", why not give them one that can be used anywhere, including your stores instead of giving a "rebate" that must be used exclusively in your stores for your merchandise? Why not give the customer the option of freely using their rebate at your establishments, or if they choose to use their hard earned dollars at another establishment, possibly for a totally unrelated purchase? This would certainly generate a lot more good will and possibly more return customers. Making a customer use their "rebate" at your discretion really isn't a true "rebate". I know it would surely make a difference to where I shop.
Rebate=A deduction from an amount to be paid; an abatement; The RETURN of part of an amount already paid.
Thank you!
