Menards gender discrimination

I held onto this job for a year and a half, and usually never have I let them down. But all of sudden I became pregnant over the summer and was bombarded with the symptoms, such as getting sick frequently, excessive fatigue, and acute memory loss, which all posed a major challenge for me to go to school and go to work and be on time all the time. I tried to take on a second job and was working a total of 60 or more hours a week. That ### wore me out and I had to go back down to the one job that I had before. In the month of October they told me that I had to sign a paper agreeing that I ###ed up and was late. Come to find out they wrote me up for the day I had to call in because I was sick and threw up all over my clothes and had nothing else to wear since I live out of town. I had gone from just this one incident to being on grounds for termination.

Excuse me, but I thought that if a woman becomes pregnant and has trouble meeting all the demands she is entitled to certain rights by law to keep her job. It's not like I have always been this way. They ###ing knew the whole time and just set me up. There's no way any of the general managers will understand my situation enough to give me another chance, because they are all men. I delt with the ### manger this Sunday but I did get along better with the others when I worked there, but still, they are still men. Now there is no way in hell I can pay my bills and keep a roof over my head for more than a month and a half down the road unless I land another job. There's nothing but fast food restaurants and Mayo Clinic here. What do I do?

This is a good example of why women should stay home with their kids instead of trying to juggle both motherhood and a career. Women expect special treatment from the time the pregnancy test shows up positive. They expect sick time throughout their pregnancy. They want time off for when their kids are sick or when they have some lame-### school play. They always want to leave early because their kids have sports or a geography bee or some other boring function. Basically women who were once hard workers become completely useless once they have kids, and the rest of us have to pick up the slack. "I have a child!" is their battle cry and they turn themselves into martyrs because of it and they use their children as an excuse to slack off at their jobs. Do us all a favor, honey--stay home with your kid. This goes for all the women with kids out there--you are more useful at home. I've had to take on a heavier workload for more than one mother, and I know my life would be a hell of a lot easier if all of you mommys would just stay home. BTW, I am a woman and the same rules apply to me. If I get pregnant, I will not use my child as a pawn to get what I want from my employer. I will stay home and take care of it and not ### about it and pretend to be a martyr like all the other women out there.

so...it's menards fault that you can't be at work when you are scheduled? btw no employer gives two ### about your "other job." i get that you need to work, but you can't blame them for replacing you if you are not reliable. getting along with people is ok, but you have to get there first. if you really got fired because of one late. you should get a lawyer, not post on some complaint board. i know several lawyers in the rochester area that will take that suit in a heart beat. just type "business law rochester" into google.

My advice to you:

1. Stop making excuses- there are millions of pregnant women worldwide with greater pressure than your 60 hr/week work + school (try 100 hrs/week on occasion). Being pregnant is not a free pass to not perform your job well, as you describe ("if a woman becomes pregnant and has trouble meeting all the demands she is entitled to certain rights by law to keep her job") The law only prevents discrimination, it doesn't mandate special treatment!

2. Lose the sexist attitude- mature men (hopefully your managers are mature) understand the demands of preganancy, but just like anyone, managers expect their employees to be reliable, no matter what gender or "situation" they are in.

3. Get motivated- watch The Pursuit of Happyness to see how a homeless, single parent made it in the professional world. Start in fast food or scrub floors at Mayo if that's what it requires. We all start somewhere.

Menards service and products they sell

We special ordered 6 24x80 doors and 3-30x80 doors from Menards in Moline, Il. We were told the doors would be in in 7-10 days. They would send a card in the mail when they arrived. Surprise no card, After 14 days we called to check on them and were told they had been there for a week.We went and picked them up, got them home and they didn't fit. When you order 24 inch doors that is what you expect to get but I guess Mastercfaft doors doesn't see it that way. They think 23.5 inches is 24. Guess I will look elsewhere .

Menards scammers

Beware of ordering roofing metal thru Menards hardware. It comes dented, scratched, poor shipping. They tried to replace some of it, they reordered some of it five times, we never got the replacement. It took us over a year of trying to get them to settle this matter. We had our roof off our house for over a year, trying to get the metal replaced. They lied to the consumer protection, to Discover Card. We have other people who seen the poor quality of metal. We no longer shop at menards, and have cancel our credit card thru Discover, because they believed Menards not us.

When you place your order with Menards they tell you it would be here for you in about 7-10 days. You have to pay for it before it is ordered, that way they have gotten their money from the credit card before you get your metal, it took them three weeks before we got our metal.

"You have to pay for it before it is ordered, that way they have gotten their money from the credit card before you get your metal, it took them three weeks before we got our metal."

Of course you have to pay for it before they order it. Imagine if they didn't and people just ordered whatever they want. People would never even think twice about actually needing it. "Sure go ahead, just order it in. I'll decide if I want it when it comes." Where would they put all the stuff that comes in special ordered? Also, steel is custom cut to the inch that you need, that means they can't just sell it like their stock. It's CUSTOM.

Steel comes in quickly. Steel is made and cut by the next day that you swiped your day and ready to ship. The reason it takes a week is because it has to wait for a truck to ship it out. Gas costs companies money, they're not going to send a big semi for a box of steel. I doubt that it took 3 weeks for the steel's initial order.

Menards terrible experience

After a total remodel of our home in Escanaba my wife and I had a few odds and ends to finish up so we picked up the phone and called Menards to order those few last minute things to finish the project that we had started. This should not have been out of the ordinary because we had ordered several thousand dollars of building materials over the last few month some of it from Menards. In the past those orders from Menards were delivered problem free so we had no reason to doubt that this smaller order of $715.00 worth of building materials and delivery charges would be any different. Oh were we in for a surprise.

After waiting for 3 weeks because it was a special order ( that was paid in full up front)my wife called to find out what was going on with the delivery and they told her it was scheduled for the next day between 7:00 A.M. and 7:00 P.M. but they could not give her an exact time. Two days later she calls back and asks " Where is our Delivery" and Kevin, told her that he thought it was delivered but he would check on it. A few hours later kevin calls back and said " I check with my manager and he says the delivery has been made and you should check with your neighbors to see if they received it." Needless to say I made the next call and asked for the Store Manager. I was connected to Tim the "Store Manager." After sharing my story with him and explaining that we just wanted our building materials he told me he was aware of the situation and that when we ordered the materials we gave bad directions and that we have no house numbers displayed so most likely it was delivered to a neighbor and there was nothing else he could do and he is the top manager at the store so there is nobody else you can talk to.

In summary My house numbers are displayed on both my mail box and my front deck. I guess I will have to check with all my neighbors (who do not have house numbers displayed) to find out if they have the building materials that I paid to have delivered to my house.

Menards, will not take back any products that have had gas added to them. It even says it on your receipt buddy. Perhaps you should read it next time. Also, I'm a bit shocked he didn't mention the repair center because that's where they send things like this. I'm willing to bet you were not being so nice on the phone. Why would you aspect someone to be nice back :).

Menards delivery

Menards treats their "contracted" delivery service like a piece of crap, even though their motto is "making the delivery service happy"...so why have so many of their "contracted" delivery services quit them. I, for one, did end up quitting because of a foul mouth manager who thought that he could tell me how to run and load my truck. If I remember correctly, if I get pulled over in the truck, it's my responsibility. Of course, I'm fighting to money that is owed to me for hauling...Then I start looking into other complaints...Oh My! Better Business Bureau has them rated with an F. I would love to see complaints from other previous hauling services...Hope you all got your money... I would love to know how you did it!

I signed up with Menards in Jan 2008 and they said nothing about any stores going in nearby. 2months after I start I read that they are building another store 20 miles from me. When the new store went in my deliveries dropped by 50%.

Menards crappy emplyee treatment

I worked at Menards for a few years in high school, as a cashier. Because I was a good worker, they started having me do computer work. But it was something that I was obviously not supposed to be doing, because the Manager (not just a head cashier) had to log into the computer for me. This became part of my expected duties, and I was not compensated for it. But when the store manager saw me doing it, he yelled at me. And so my manager told me I could only do it when the store manager wasn't around, but that I still needed to do it.

I was also expected to help cash out other cashiers at the end of their shifts. Obviously not something I was supposed to be doing.

They also reduced me to tears by screaming at me in front of customers and accusing me of helping someone steal. I had been working as "customer service" doing returns (with no benefit to me) for a while, and one day a person came to return a drill with no receipt. They only could get in store credit, and my manager signed the in store credit check due to the amount (I told him what was being returned). About 5 minutes later, the store manager came screaming at me about how could I let someone return stolen merchandise. I did not see the customer come from within the store, so I did not question his motives. There were about 10 people waiting in line at the time.

Then when had given my two week notice (I was leaving for college), they brought me into an office and showed me a clearly illegitimate check. It was a money order that had been typed over and altered and had been used as a check at my register. The amount was over $300 which meant that the check should have been initialed by a head cashier and they also would have to approve it on the register before I could have completed the transaction. However, there were no initials, and I did not remember processing the transaction. I did tell them that the head cashier regularly used my drawer to check out customers when I was on break. (They knew my passcode into the register, but when I voiced concern I was not allowed to change it.) They claimed they would be going through the video to determine if I knowingly took this falsified check. In the mean time I was fired. They never let me know what came of it.

I must say that my time there was not worth my effort!

I currently work at a Menards in Indiana (not naming the specific city) and I'm one of two minors working there at the front end. They let anyone who knows how to use a radio be a head cashier. As a minor I have to take a lunch every five and a half hours. One day I was working six hours and was only assigned two ten minute breaks. I let the head cashier know that i needed to take a lunch, and she said that we 'didn't have enough breakers or time' to fit one in. Cue me being written up the next day for not taking a lunch and getting the company fined. So I have to choose to get written up for taking a thirty when I'm told to take a ten, or get written up for getting the company fined? Quit letting airheads be head cashiers. Human resources has not yet gotten back to me about the situation. This has happened on multiple occasions.
My head cashier will have me take money out to the garden center, which I have expressed my fear of doing but they tell me I will be fine. They also have me take the red cart back to receiving and operate the trash compactor, which O.S.H.A says I have to be 18 to do. 'Just don't get hurt.' Call me a [censored] but I don't want the company to get in trouble because of the ignorant and uneducated head cashiers!

Menards is really good at using their employees to excess without giving the proper compensation. When I was working as a cashier I was written up for wanting to count my till. I counted it before I would start my shift and the front end manager yelled at me saying I wasn't allowed to count the money. On one day after being yelled at I counted my till again and the till came up 12. 00 short. I immediately called the manager on the walkie talkie and told her but she just yelled at me over the walkie talkie, later that day I was written up for counting my till. I ended up going to the Human Resources Guy and expressing my concern that if Menards wants me to be responsible for their money then I should have the right to count it to make sure that it has the amount of money that it was supposed to have. I was told I was able to count my money before I take it to the register in front of the manager. So the next day I went into the counting room thinking I was going to get to count the money in my till. But instead the manager weighed the money then handed me the till and told me it was fine. I pushed the issue that I was told I could count the money before taking the till which made the manager very angry at me and from that day forward it was obvious I was going to continue to be treated poorly. The harrassment continued from the management until I finally quit 6 months later.

my wife worked at menards for about six years now. she was an assistant front end manager. she was great at her job, never had any complaints against her, never had any mistakes. Then there was something wrong with the money at the end of the day, and after checking their security cameras, determined that it wasn't stolen, they still demoted her to full or part time team member and made her transfer to a store farther away. She gave her life to that job, and she was so proud of herself, now she is so depressed, and she worked so hard. I can't believe they would treat a loyal employee this way

Menards charged for products not received

We purchased a few thousand dollars in pavers Sept. 2017. The delivery company for Menards calls and tells us they are short by 700 pavers. The total amount for all the pavers has been charged on our card. So they deliver what is available. A week later my Husband calls Menards and the rest are available. They want to charge us again for delivering a product that THEY shorted US on. Not our problem! They will not work with us at all. We have spent literally thousands of dollars there over the years, we have no other home improvement store to go to. Manager isn't there, how convienient. Can't get a hold of Corporate, can't get a hold of credit card company, what a joke! Save Big Money, NOT! Get ripped off, YES! NO CUSTOMER SERVICE, ABSOLUTELY!

If you buy anything that says its made for Menards (look at the back label) its going to break or not work! Trust me I purchased tools/paint/lights and they all broke or was the worst product I've seen, spent more money buy trying to save a buck! Home depot will meet and beat there prices so save the time and money (after returns and gas) go somewhere else. When your trying to get something fixed and its junk from the start, it *** you off when you have to drive all the way back to take it back. Just wasted my day and not too mention my money!

We bought an counter top ice cube maker that quit working when we returned it they said the extended warranty was canceled after 1 replacement the one replacement was because it came without the ice cube basket or scoop and the warranty on the new one was void because this was the 2nd one we had replaced also the company wasn't making any money if they had to keep replacing things. what the lady didn't seem to understand is we have bought at least 3 of these things in the last couple of years so we aren't replacing the same one all the time she thought we were bringing them back just before the warranty was up.

Who is right or wrong depends on what you were told when they called to say they were short. Normally you would have to either pay for the second delivery or else postpone it there was enough product to fill the entire order, but I know that that sometimes isn't communicated properly when these calls are made. Generally a second delivery would only be free if store error caused them to be short on the delivery date.

Not having been there, I can't make the call on this one.

Menards awful experience

I got a *** eater from menards took it home and strated it and ran fine. went to use it a few weeks later and it ran for 15 min's thenm shut down. took it back to the store and manager told me that no returns after you put gas in it. How do you know if it works until you put gas in it? this is there policy, no return or refund. i took it to a repair center had it fixed this time it ran 2 mins started rope jammed and shut down. I called the weedeater manufacture and they were very nice. told me if i get a letter from repair center saying it was not repairable they would refund or exchange the machine. Got the letter took it back to Menards and they gave me more crap about it and after talking to several managers i got my money returned to me. this took almost a month to deal with the prossess. i purchased a *** eater from the repair shop so i could get the job done. why should i have to deal with rude managers from Menards. i now go to Home depot they seem nicer over all. tips! buy where they will suport the product.

There are signs by the gas lawn mowers and weed eaters say "no returns on gas *whatever you're buying*). If the company said they would return your money, you should have gone to the company, not the store for the return.

Menards store manager — bruce

We ordered windows from the Menards store located on Clybourn (store # 3092 ). When we ordered these windows we were told they are standard size windows and if we could not use them the store would put them back in stock and it would cost us a re-stocking fee and we could only get in house credit. Which was o.k with us because we have 3 apartment buildings and are always having to buy large items . We are less than 5 minutes from Home Depot and we always go to this Menards. Once the windows arrived we could not get a permit to put these windows in. We went back to the service desk and showed them the paper work for these windows and ask if we could return them. We were told as long as they were in the original packages and not damaged. So we took the windows back and the manager name Bruce thew a fit and told us he didn't care what we were told that HE was the boss and HE would NOT take them back. When we tried to tell him what we were told when we bought we windows and what the service desk had told us he repeated, "I HAVE THE FINAL SAY ON ANYTHING THAT GOES ON IN THIS STORE AND I WILL NOT TAKE THESE BACK." He was very, very rude and when we told him we buy thousands of dollars of items from that store he told us he could care less if we buy from that store or not because he was the boss and what he had to say was final and walked away. We have talked to several of the sales help in that store just to see how he treats the employees and its a sad place to work and not even one person could say anything good about him. We just ask what kind of person this Bruce was and it was always the same. They would look around and all of them said he was very nasty to the help.
We spend at least 25 thousand dollars a year just keeping these building in good shape and that is not counting all the other items we have bought at this store.
If we have this kind of problem with "Mr. Attitude" I am sure other people have all so.
Thank you for your time.

Menards cutomer service - store manager

Until resently, I have only had one complaint against the store-it's manager's attitude. He is simply boorish.

Over the last couple years I have had the occasion to be in the store just before closing time when an anouncement is screamed over the PA so abruptly and spoken so fast that no one in the store could possibly understand the majority of what is being said. Every 5 minutes the same garbled voice would shout at the customers to essentually get out of the store--and remember that most of what is being said is unintelligible due to the rappid fire pace of his yelling. I should note on the first occasion I thought it might be a new employee who was nervous or wasn't able to hear what they sounded like thru the PA, but this continued for a year or so.

Well after hearing this same type of announcement on a number of nights I finally asked an employee who was making the announcement. They said that it was the store manager. I then said you mean A store manager thinking she meant a department head, to which she said, no it was THE store manager and she meantioned his name. Well having managed a number businesses, I can tell you that I would have fired anyone that sounded like this repeatedly on the intercom, but it's the store manager who is doing it! Hopefully posting here this will attract someone's attention at head office and they'll give him lessons in intercom etiquette and speak to him about his attitude in general...

I have had the same complaint against Mike... He is a rude know-it-all and screams announcements at closing. Maybe, it's from drinking one too many coffees whole working 14 hour days? At any rate he needs an attitude adjustment and to learn that those he is yelling at are likely the same people who are involved in major projects and getting last minute supplies so they can get an early start .

actually there is more than one store manager so they usually do not work from open to close. and they don't stay 2 hours late.. except when there is a huge sale or guests don't get out of the store at close. and yes the night pages at that store sound terrible, that guy got all the stores in trouble, i work at one and now it is more strict.

Here's a revelation! The store is open for 13-17 hours per day for your shopping convience...so why the hell are you people in there at closing time! We are all tired as hell after working all day, and believe it or not we have lives that we like to lead after work! Use the aforementioned 13-16 hours of shopping time to get your ###, and IF you MUST be in at closing time, move your ###, get through the checkout and leave!

Well, General Managers work from an hour or two from open until an hour or two after it closes, so its a long day, cut them some slack.
But, of most of the complaints on this website, yours seems to be the most legit. Those 'store closing' announcements are only to be made 5 and 10 minutes before closing, or 15 and 5 minutes before closing. (The later if there still is a lot of guests in the store.).
I will look into this.

Menards terrible lumber quality

If you're looking to save a few bucks buying lumber for your deck project from Menards, DON'T DO IT! You'll pay more later when you need to replace it all with quality lumber. I built a set of arbors and handrails last spring for my back deck using Menards lumber, and treated it all using the same stain I use for the rest of my decking. One year later, all of the deck boards used on the tops of the handrails have shrunk and twisted and all need to be replaced. One 4 foot deck board shrunk almost 2 inches. Two of the 4*4 support posts have bowed and cracked and now my arbor is crooked. Many of the 2*2 railing balusters are splitting.

I pay a little more going to my local small town lumberyard, but I've never had any issues with their lumber. Most of the lumber from the original arbors needs to be replaced already one year later, and I'll be getting it from my local lumberyard. I will NEVER purchase lumber from Menards ever again! You get what you pay for.

The Menards in Elk River, MN has the RUDEST employees of any store I have been in..repeatedly! They also do not stand by their products. I mostly shop Lowes and Home Depot. Menards does not help you and if you ask for help you get snide looks and [censor] service. I've lived in Elk River for 11 years. Trust me..they only want the money..they don't care about their customers!

Everything not a known brand name at Menards is usually crap. I don't know why I can't seem to remember all the hard lessons learned from their crap since I seem to go back occasionally for a reminder. They do sell groceries now, how great is that?

Menards storm windows

Three weeks after ordering 17 storm windows they came in the wrong size due to an error the store personel made while ordering. After reordering the windows they came in the wrong size again. The right size was on the window but they did'nt measure the same as the size on the window by as much as 3/4 of an inch. Now after six weeks of waiting and no windows they want to order them again? I don't think so. Menards has not only cost me six weeks time but now they have 34 windows to dispose of. I was offered nothing for their mistakes,

We put in new storm windows in our sunroom. Now it is snowing and the windows are fogging up...what is making this happen?

I am a general manager at a large retail location and in fact used to be a manager at one of your competitors so I know about guest service. I will tell you I receieved none. I needed to return a chainsaw that did not work. I understand policy is to take it to a repair service. I had to purchase another chainsaw from another retailer because I was in need...

Menards Manager

I recently visited our local menards store. I was treated like a bucket of # and I was prepared to spend 5, 000 dollars, plus. It started by me just wanting a few siding samples to look at and the person waiting on us said that he would need to discuss this matter with his manager, because he wasn't sure. After the manager was finished with tending to whatever business was. He couldn't walk his lazy # down to talk to us about your inquires. Instead he rolled his eyes and gave his young peon an answer and sent him down with a sorry we can't get samples!

So john menard here's to you: go # yourself, you corporate [censored]!

Have you ever heard of getting more with honey? So you did not have the serial number when you called is that correct? The person on the phone said he could not do anything without the serial number. The logical thing to do is get the serial number off the water heater.
Also if you really know when you bought the water heater you can go to the computer terminals and it will give you a copy of the receipt if you used a credit cards or wrote a check. So you are not screwed unless you act badly to the staff.
How did you act? I have had wonderful experiences with Menard's and I have purchased hundreds of items over the years after the remodel jobs. There are always extra items left over after a job. If I can't find the receipts because I paid cash for small ticket items then I get store credits. No big deal because I can always find else to buy there. The have great prices and selections.
Be kind and you receive kindness back, be a jerk and you get yourself right back at you. It up to you how you want to be treated.

anyone who uses such crude language sounds so offensive that they have completely turned off my mind to whatever point they are trying to make. i am quite sure that menards is thrilled to be rid of people who act uncivilized. they couldnt care less how much you were going to spend there.

start shopping at your local mom and pop stores . they work hard to give you the best products and service. and back them up to. may cost a little more but worth every penny if you have ever been put thru the ringer at a big store.

Menards Customer relations

My recent and last trip to our local Menards proved to be a lesson in patience as i don't believe i've ever been as mad in my entire life. This complaint deals with my treatment at their "yard"security check out. Having purchased 100 red edging blocks, and driving to the "yard" and loading them, when i returned to the guard shack Rachel informed me that these were the wrong color..i said" what do you mean"thinking she was kidding, she said these are red/black...I said what ever they'll work o.k...she informed me i'd have to do return on these and get a new invoice. I said" there the same price" she said it messes up the inventory count. Well i guess Rachel had a point there, but my issue was where she wanted me to go was on the other side of the store with a two year old in tow no less. And i must say i didn't enjoy the tone she took with me as she started to order me around like she busted me for grand larceny{ i.e color discernment)so i backed out of line, parked went through the store to get the new invoice.Told the clerk what had happened they gave me a new ticket went back to the yard, got back in line to see Rachel where upon she informed me this ticket wasn't vaild and was ordered again to park .She told me i'd have to go and get this ticket fixed.I told her i wasn't moving and get the manager. After 10 min someone told her it was o. k. to let me out, but i wanted to see the manager and went in and tracked him down on the other side of the store of course ... he nodded and said sorry and that was it.So we (two yr old in tow) walked across the store for the 4th time and 40 min in our sentence for having red/black and not red( and let me say there's not much difference) back to the truck back in the line to see Rachel who true to form counted the bricks for the 2nd time and announced we were FREE TO GO where by now i was more then just a little annoyed and wadded up the invoices and scored 2 points in the guard shack but just showed Rachel "one" for which later i regretted. Menards needs to remember you build business one customer at a time and thats how you lose your market shares to Lowes and Home Depot.

well yea its annoying but you did get the wrong color and she has to follow the policy what guests need to understand is that regular employees will get written up and fired if they just let the customers have their way. you may think it is wrong and we may too but it should not be expected of us to have to do what you want and get in trouble.
