I do not receive your bill for any reason, do not pay it within the first 4 weeks of receiving the invoice (it is mailed @3 weeks prior to the start of the new quarter), or do not pay the full amount, whether by intent or accident, the company will still pick up your refuse but will put your account on "suspension" and charge you, the consumer a $35 re-instatement fee. Sounds fine, because most companies providing a service can and do charge reconnect fees.in the case of waste management, the do not ever inform you in any way whatsoever on your original invoice that there is a reconnect fee if they suspend service for non-payment, nor do they mail out late notices. They do not notify the consumer in writing prior to imposing this fee. You have to pay the fee or they will halt service. And you, their consumer, have no recourse.in my case, my city has an ordinance requiring it's citizens to have trash service. And the city has a contract with waste management. As a result, if I refuse to pay a bill, not only am I charged a fee for reconnect from waste management, but I could be found to be in non-compliance of city code/ordinance and can be fined by the city up to $125. Waste management knows this, so they charge whatever they want, and then you are forced to pay, one way or another.
terrible customer service and excessive fees
Buyer beware of waste management. This company is so bad, I don't know where to begin. They provide trash service for me at a rental property. First of all, they make me sign a 36 month contract for trash service. Really? I need to sign a 3 year contract for them to pick up garbage! Then they expect me to notify them by certified mail 6 months before the end of mine contract to tell them I don't want service anymore. Plus they want me to tell them the price of the service I am switching to and give the right to match it. Ridiciulous! What else? They have raised the cost of my service 15% a year. They just randomly raise my bill and hope I don't squell. If I call to speak with a manager, they get my contact information to call me back, yet more times than not I end up having to call them again because they don't return my call. They changed my trash pick up day and failed to notify me. They claimed they couldn't get in touch with me, but by god they could get the bill sent to me each and every month.
Needless to say, I will not be renewing my contract with waste management. I have been counting the days until I can tell them where to put it. This company is too worried about their shareholders' pockets and shamelessly promoting themselves on undercover boss to give a damn about their customers. I would not recommend anyone ever get trash service from waste management.
You would assume wrong. I don't have a dumpster. I have 4- 96 gallon trash bins for my tenants to throw their trash in and they wheel them to the curb so it is a pretty big deal when the trash day is. And it's not the fact they switched trash days, it's the fact that they didn't notify me about the change. When I asked them why they didn't notify me, they told me they didn't have my contact info. Yet they were still sending me bills every month. Maybe you should read a little closer before you aimlessly comment helpNu. And as far as the comment, "Fuel prices go up and your bill will also". The city trash service in my town has maintained their price for trash service for the past three years. Based on your comments helpNu, I would not be surprised if you were a Waste Management employee. With the margins they have figured into their service, they could afford to hire a bunch of people to surf the internet and post stupid comments.

Just had a similar experience. My bill kept going up so I called to complain. The woman was very nice - she lowered it and all was good. Then a few weeks later I get a bill as if I hadn't paid and it had not gone down. I called and they told me to ignore it - I didn't owe anything. Then a month later I get a bill that is almost double what I was quoted. I call back and the first woman said I was charged a "Resume Fee" - and when I started questioning she kept saying I was breaking up and she couldn't hear me - but I could hear her fine. She said she would call me right back and never did. I had to go through the whole process again and the woman tried to help but she kept explaining that my services was cancelled for non-payment with a $45 resume fee plus $10 more for administrative charges. I argued this was robbery - how could they charge 50% of the bill when they didn't do anything. She kept saying that I had let the bill lapse 62 days. When I pressed her for the dates the bills are due she then was flip flopping what she said. I continued to review the facts and then even she could see that the bill was only 30 days late when I paid it so they should not have cancelled the service. She couldn't explain what happened but did fix it for me. I just hope this is reflected in my bill in a few weeks. Very upsetting and just a 'waste' of my time.
We have the same problem with Waste Management. I tried to cancel last year but they said we had another year to go so when it came up this year I was a month off now we are stuck with them for 3 more years because of the "rolling contract". They are deceptive and misleading with their contract. They want to enforce their contract with an iron hand yet they want the ability to change their prices whenever they want.
Ours too is for rental property. We deal with contracts all of the time. We have let our renters out of the contract for individual reasons . We do not want unhappy renters on our property and I don't know why Waste Managment would want such bitter customers.
poor service and poor management
Waste management takes the trash when they feel like it. Called to complain 5 times did nothing to resolve the problem. Poor service poor management.

Several times through out 2014 I've called to let them know recycling wasn't removed. I was told a supervisor would call me but never did. Going to have to ask township for a refund of monthly fee's. Maybe then they'll do something about this worthless company. Could be because they're in Flint it has something to do with it. Garbage city garbage company.
harassing phone calls
Waste management begins calling regarding payment before I receive a bill. For some time I tried paying on line but at 65 years of age and not being accustomed to paying on line I was intimidated by all the security bells and whistles going off when I went on the wm website. Since i've had to pay a computer person over and over to get virus', I asked to have a paper bill sent. It is now february 17th, I have no bill in the mail yet and I have already started to get wm messages about paying my bill. This turns into harassment when the calls keep coming and I haven't even received a bill. If I could switch to another company I would but this situation proves why competition is good: when a consumer has no choice the company can do anything it pleases, including harassing a responsible older person with daily calls — usally for about $65-75... I am sick of this.
Ps: today is feb 17th and the bill just arrived; it was mailed from phoenix on feb 12th — if we had weather problems as we often do I would not have received it in 5 days. And since I am leaving to go out of town until monday I am not paying it and mailing it until monday... This is harassment and I am sick of it.

Please all of you contact me. I hate their service. One quarter there was no past due amount, January of 2011 I get a bill that charges the current due amount no problem on my credit card, but then all of a sudden there is a past due amount. Then a few weeks later the reinstatement fee. Nothing in the mail. The only reason I knew is because all of a sudden I was getting an email confirmation for over 120 dollars, bill normally around 90, and then I am being charged separately 38. Then again this month. Funny how all payments are going through without any change to my credit profile. I am calling tomorrow but from past experience it isn't going to be fun. I am going to get an audio recording this time. I setup an email in hope of getting responses to build a profile to fight back.
email me your concise story with how you could prove it. I can easily prove it by showing my invoices to a judge I would even post publicly by just removing my name, account, and address. Take pictures holding up your cell phone or the current days paper, get audio, and get invoices online as proof.

never again
I just found this site and would like to contribute to supporting both the positive and negative reports here. I few years back, I had a container from a competitor that wmi bought out. Without notifying me, they sent out a truck, picked up the near-empty container and then tried to charge me a service fee.
They said that I had had the container too long. I explained that time between pick ups was not mentioned in any contract with the competitor. They tried to tell me that I was bound by their standard contract. You don't have to be a lawyer to know that is wrong. They had the right to pick up the container and charge for disposal, but that was all.
When I complained to the bbb here in jacksonville and they got involved, wmi backed down.
I would haul my own trash to the dump before I did business with them again.

I have a similar story...
Our homeowner association changed trash companies so we all put out our trash bins for pickup by Waste management. I put out my 89 year old neighbor's bin since she was out of town. Waste managment picked up my bin, her bin and everyone else's. Then they claimed my 89 year old neighbor never put her bin out and sent her a bill for $75! I called them and explained they have made a mistake, but they claimed they did not. And then they admitted they don't keep records of what was picked up or where! They had no record of picking up 1 or 2 bins at anybodies house! So the $75 charge is just trying to take advantage of a older widow who might feel she has to pay.
I'm going to complain to the BBB and any complaint board I can find. I suggest everyone require wastemanagment sign a receipt when they pick up your bin. That should be a standard business practice anyway -- drop off a bin, have the homeowner sign a receipt. Pick up a bin, sign a receipt. Otherwise the company is just stealing money from their customers.
Overcharged
Waste management has a little known clause in their contract which allows them to renew their refuse pick up contract with out permission from the client, then if you cancell their service they charge three months service fee with no service. The clause is not complaint with utah law but waste management will not rescind the charge even though the contract...

january 2003 hired as a floater site worker for 12recycling centers.within in 3months working in the office as a lead person over 12recycling center, and 27employees.my job entailed:doing schedules, time sheets, buying and deliving supplies, using my own personal vehicle, going out to the centers checking on site workers, making sure centers were opened, fill in the centers when a worker had to be out, basicall i did it all.the county were happy and so was waste management.I had alot of responsibilty place on me, doing the job of a district management, with out the pay! i was trusted with the visa number to purchase supplies.
april 2008, i'm promoted to site-supervisor by district manager from florence, s.c. in a employee meeting in front of my co-workers, and the county administrator, public works director, recycling co-ordinator, and waste management sales respresentative and a wm supervisor-dispatcher! now after over a year, i'm being told i have crossed the line, accused of contacting county officials and talking to them about issues(which is in correct).accused of hiring and firing (in correct).a disgrunted employee of 2years as a site worker complains, not doing their job, and i'm being accused by a new district manager and a human resource person that i have never met in the 6years of working with waste management that i wasn't allowed to resolve the issues going on with this site worker!
my position has never been questioned by the county(with whom we have a contract with), or waste management . we have some employees in florence who were not doing their job, such as district manager, supervisor, human resource, and now they are threaten by disgrunted employee and her husband.so therefore i'm demoted and part time status, deducted $1.00 from my pay, loosing my health benefit and all other benefits.
i put my heart and soul in my job doing what wastemangement and the county wanted.never have their been a problem with my character and my work ethics.i don't like being accused by people i have never met, who never came to clarendon county or attended employee meetings to meet the people working for them or for that fact meeting the county personal whom they have a contract with.
i have a voice and i want to be heard, i have plenty of documentation to back up everything and anything i have to say about this situation.I was done very wrong, and i want something done about it.and i will keep on till i find someone who is willing to help me take this on.
i put 30years into the healthcare field.i'm a ex-officer wife who has been affiliated with the military, also job wise.i have alot of understanding about going thru the channels, and not crossing the line!
Glad to hear from you franniedorchester! As you probably saw I had someone contact me about a classaction suit and never heard back from them, I was very disappointed about it!
Your situation is very familiar, I know some employees here that has had same thing happen to them.
Something needs to be done about this Waste Management. This is unethical what they do to their employees.
I may have a lawyer that might take on the case for me.I won't know till next week.I just got his name referred to me.
One of the problems is that alot of these employees don't want to speak up or stand up when they know someone is being done wrong, for fear they will loose their jobs.
How long were you with wm?I will tell you this if you go to file for unemployment you might as well take a lawyer along with you.I filed and the supervisor shows up with a lawyer, and I had all my documentation to prove my case, and I still lost.A decision was made in a days time! I am convinced that the referee for the employment office and wm, lawyer all knew each other, they all came from the same town!Plus the decision was already made!
I will email you!I have been ready to fight this company for a year now.
NO RESPONSE from hosea_4vrs6@msn.com, I sent you an
email upon your request about a group filing a class action suit
against waste management!
I'm still interested as are some other individuals.
I do hope this wasn't a boogey reply from you. This is a real
serious situation and not to be taken lightly by you or anyone
else.
So if YOU aren't for real, do not bother me with your comments or even a glimmer of hope that there's an interest in a group wanting to get together to do something about this wrong doing of waste management!
I'm really fed up with PEOPLE being scared, all Talk and NO ACTION!
Thank You hosea4 for your comment!I have been along time waiting for some help on this. And you are right, I was used.Even with my documentation, wm had a lawyer to show up for my appeal against them for unemployment. You believe that?Hell, I lost, the commissioner and all of them knew each other and put a Spin on everything.
You know what, I'm right on this and I will keep on till someone listens and helps make it right !
thanks SuperVepr for your comment, now i really feel someone is noticing my delimna!
I would just love for a lawyer to get ahold of this, there is plenty more to this truth complaint that has not been told.
Hello everyone out there. I was a Residential Driver for Georgetown Delaware Waste Management . We had been relocated from Cambridge, Maryland due to consolidation. Once we arrived there all we heard from the other drivers was how bad it was to work there. Little did I know I would soon find out. After a couple of months and getting to know the Delaware drivers I repeatedly heard them complaining about being cheated on their pay checks. They started showed me their incentive sheet printouts that came along with the checks. By the way, they could"nt mess with our pay yet because they had to pay the Maryland drivers a set pay rate for almost a year cause our routes were not in their system. Being I had worked in the office before I had a thorough knowledge of the formula they used to determine how much the drivers should have been paid. Every single driver that showed me an incentive sheet were being cheated out of $ 100 to $ 300 hundred dollars a week at least. Once I told them this they started going to the Route Manager responsible for their incentive sheets and pay. Next thing I know I started being harassed in every way possible, culminating in being terminated for allegedly having 8 occurrences when it came to find out through my vigorous pursuit of all pertinent records I only had 3 occurrences. It"s like someone else said in their comment. These big corporations and companies do not really care for their employees at all. Due to a severe illness, I had to put doing something about this on hold until now. Now its time to do something about it.
one of the main things in this company is that managers only care about their numbers all the time do not care how or when the roads are completed by drivers. no matter how tired they are, how much sleep or anything else by the life of the deal is bad drivers lie on your face and if you say something you are in the sight of all. keep drivers uninformed of things that happen in the company.
as the saying goes the more ignorant best for them
I had to cancel my account and they made it so impossible for me that I am thinking of renewing the contract, I don't like their customer service, I am a small guy and cannot go for law suit. I wish there was some way out there.
I would be happy to join any class action suit. I was employed by WM and after 4 months got sick. While on short-term disability, they stopped by benefits and paycheck and now my supervisor won't return my calls. They are forcing me out of compliance. The company is evil and is ruining my life. I was an employee in good standing deserving of the benefits and they yanked them negligently. Cigna is outrageous too. If you're serious, contact franniedorchester@hotmail.com. I think we should sic a union on them and unionize the customer service people. The supervisory staff is uneducated and trained to rough up the troops. Not a good place at all. People treated shabbily like the industrial revolution.
You were set up give me a buzz at hosea_4vrs6@msn.com
I know a group of individuals are planning a class action suit against waste.
Give 'em he'll! You were scapegoated from what I can tell.
Failed to pick up waste.
At this point i'm livid with waste management. This is the second year in a row that on "special cleanup day", i've howled out my debris to the curbside following their instructions to the t. I've anticipated that there will be problems because of last year experience when I confronted their employees that showed up in an already full truck and in a very rude manner refused to do their job. Their excuse was that one of the piles was not bundled properly, so they decided no not pick up anything. Thanks city of san ramon for the monopoly.

Big fraud
The practices of waste management are abusive and un-professional. Beware of any documents signed with them. They expect you to sign for life on any of their service agreements. There's a small clause that force you to remain in service for the rest of your life, they will renew this service agreement for 36 months for the rest of your life, beware.
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
WM has one of the SHORTEST contract terms in the INDUSTRY, read any of your vendor agreements, ALL of them from Security to building leases etc "rollover"
our competitors have FIVE year terms!
You are right on.I worked for lousy company, and i saw what was going on in my own county. The stupid County Administrator signs a lease with wm and then lets wm sign another lease on our transfer station, and waste management is not even using transfer station, just their way of locking their selves into the county.
waste management doesn't acknowledge their employees(the little people that make it work).
dianemac
They did this to me too, I asked them to swap out my 4 yard dumpster with a 3 yard dumpster and they said I had to sign a form to get this done. What they don't tell me is that on the back of the form was a committment to a 36 month contract.
scam
Last year (2008)I used WMI Commercial for "dumpster" drop off and collection. The standard WMI Commercial policy is "Payment in advance of services". Each time WMI dropped off a dumpster they would (prior to dropoff) collect the full amount of the bill. I paid with my credit card for the 6 or 8 dumpsters I have had dropped off.
6 Months ago I started getting calls from RMS collections in behalf of WMI Commercial trying to collect a $ 126.70 bill I "allegedly" owed WMI. I explained the PAYMENT IN ADVANCE policy to RMS to no avail. I called (on 4 occasions) and went through the entire years billing with a WMI representative only to have them (the reps) agree that I had (per their company policy) paid for each of the dumpsters delivered PRIOR to the delivery. In each case I was assured that the matter would be closed. In each case it wasn't.
Last month I received a collection notice from RMS for the above mentioned $ 126.70. I responded by faxing them a “validity” of claim dispute.
Today I got a phone call from RMS trying to (again) collect the $ 126.70 amount.
Again I called WMI and spoke with a rep named Alicia that promised (after verifying that I had indeed paid for all services rendered)to get the matter resolved and call me back today or tomorrow. We shall see. I'm sceptical as I've had this same conversation on at least 4 occasions with WMI reps in the past with no favorable results.
SUGGESTION FOR WMI ... Pay attention to your own company policy. When you require "Payment in advance" and don;t send a customer a written bill, don't send them to collection.

Ethics
Was employed with the company as a shop manager and Senior tech. I was the only mechanic, secretary, purchasing agent and responsible for more trucks and equipment every year, with no help. Fleet size at the time of my Feb 12 th, 2009 termination was 24 units. Upper management had verbally attacked me in "meetings", that were held behind closed doors. I had...

Waste management bills consumers in my city in quarterly installments. Need help wm and city of Oakland they want to charge me $2,500.00 on back fees plus thanks
GET THIS: village ordinance states Residents using any amount of water are forced into Groot garbage pickup with village code enforcement. My case: single lady 55 years old with no garbage presently, been rehabbing a home I bought/incorporated area/rehabbing this home by myself - using bare minimum of water, rehabbing three years now almost, and just recently Groot started billing me the quarterly billing...so far maybe $200.00 plus dollars. I do not live in the home therefore I am not a Resident, Groot states I am using water via village house is located in, and therefore Groot has drummed up false billing - I have NO GARBAGE and in fact just recently I discovered a new bin in my driveway. Groot tells me that rehabbers' finish rehabbing a home in three to four months; wait a minute I am just a single woman doing all the work by myself. Groot tells me that I am using water, so Groot has to bill me like a Resident using water and living within the house; I AM NOT LIVING IN THE HOME. Is this legal? Now village informs me that they the village will not use code enforcement actions upon me - no brainer, and that is probably because I am not living in the house like a Resident; as all their codes only affect Residents. But wait a minute - what about harrassment from Groot; when I have no garbage. To top it off - where I do live as a Resident; we have had garbage for 40 plus years now. What do I do in this case people? Any advise for me...would be greatly appreciated before they Groot ruin my credit rating. And I have not paid a penny, and do not plan on it; as I have no garbage, and no prior account for Groot and this house.
Waste Management has been sending me bills for years for waste removal service at a property they have NEVER serviced for trash removal. The borough that I live in has a different company for waste removal, plus the house had been vacant for over 5 years. They sent a bill for several years to a collection company, and they still send me bills even though I wrote to them and explained I am not their customer. I even provided proof of the borough where the property is located, along with the LISTED waste removal company which is a competitor of WM. They have never ONCE picked up a lick of trash from this property, not even a gum wrapper, but they are trying to scam me for over $1, 000!
This company is corrupt and needs to be investigated and shut down.
My husband and I had cancelled services with Waste Management because we felt their prices were too high. After a month, we decided to use their services again because we were unable to find another company within reason for our trash services. My husband called WM and asked if there would be a fee to continue our service with them and the representative, of course, said NO. So we go ahead and continue using their service, and this month, we received 2 bills totaling $147.59 from these [censor] that includes a "$55 resume service fee. "ARE YOU FREAKING KIDDING ME!" I just discovered another company that services our area and when i contacted them, they informed me that they only charge $20 a month for a 65 gallon bin! Thank God for them, but boy do I feel stupid for wasting my time and money on WASTE MANAGEMENT...I would NEVER recommend or use their services ever again!
Here it is again. These corporate companies taking advantage of devoted customers. I'm ok to spend a little more for a service, if I am getting good service. Corporate know this. their for, they precede to raise the price gradually with mainly greed in mind. Unless you call a competitor you well never know how hi is to hi. But why would a question it, surly this is the industry price plus some . Besides I'm a good customer their is no reason to gouge me. Then time moves on and it become obvious. $ 318 a month for every two weeks for 2 yard box. "really" what is going on. What, s the competitors price? " What" only $135 O my god They are ripping me off. Then comes the " shaft" when you want to cancel. This is how this generation of large corporates work now. Supported by our courts and no government guideline to help the consumer. I Be leave I will consider throwing my trash out the window.
September 5, 2017 was my last day of garbage service with Recology because that is the day i moved out of my rental and moved into my current rental.
February 6, 2018, I received a Notice in the mail from the property management at my CURRENT RESIDENCE TO VACATE THE PREMISES BECAUSE OF AN UNPAID BILL with RECOLOGY at my previous rental. WHAT?!
I called Recology and the person i talked to had a very heavy accent barely comprehensible and had to spell out her email to me because she wants me to submit "proof" that I actually moved out when i say i did. When i closed the account back in September the customer service person i spoke to did NOT have an accent. So obviously the current customer service person expressed disbelief that i closed the account because she's not the person i talked to. Anyway, They have an interoffice problem in accounting and they're trying to pin their mistake on me.
I DO NOT HAVE NOR HAVE I HAD AN ACCOUNT WITH RECOLOGY EVER SINCE I LEFT THE RENTAL IN SEPTEMBER OF 2017!
Why is Recology threatening my current RENTAL PROPERTY MANAGEMENT with a lien when i don't have service with them and haven't since i moved out. Why is Recology putting liens on landlords for a tenant utility bill in the first place? That doesn't make any sense to me at all.
The problem with all of this is I'll probably end up homeless because of the way Recology goes about trying to collect on unpaid bills...AND IN MY CASE THERE ISN'T AN UNPAID BILL..and now i have to submit copies of my personal documentation that is confidential like the PG&E closing bill, AT&T closing bill, etc and i don't feel comfortable giving them my accounts information. If they can screw up by not closing my account and charge me anyway, why wouldn't they use my personal identifying information for illegal purposes... .I could just imagine ...with all of the illegal immigrants in California it is not far-fetched to imagine that my personal identifying information can and possible will be used for identity theft purposes...
This company is FRAUD, and scam, i used to have service with them for a long time, then suddenly in one month they overcharge me about $3000, for calling "Overage" charge, which was not true, i used to produce the same amount of trash for more than 3 years, they keep calling me to collect, but i defiantly refused, and asked to challenge them in court,
Stay away from WM, all fraud and rude customer service.
As the former WMI employee accurately pointed out, my quarterly bill increased almost every single time. When I had enough and cancelled, I was told that they could significantly lower my rates! That's 100% proof that the incremental increase in rates to existing customers is not warranted, it's merely gigging existing customers for more money and hoping they won't notice. Then they surprised me with a $25 tote removal fee. I could deliver their totes anywhere in the city for $1 of my fuel and would have gladly done so had I known there was a fee equal to a whole month of service for picking up their own totes. I will never do business with them again and I will tell others to avoid this company like all other morally bankrupt corporations.
Don't sign a contract with them. They will lock you into a rolling contract. In order to cancel you have to send them a certified letter 90 days in advance of your 'expiration date'. If you don't, your contract rolls over for an entire new term. In my case it rolled to another 36 months. If I cancel, I have to pay a pickup fee $100, plus 6 months of billing in my case $906. Beware of this company!
I am a customer of Waste Management & have been for the last 9 years. There was a random charge on my last bill of $18.48, I didn't look at my bill closely, so paid it. On my latest bill the random $18.48 has been added again. I phoned WM today (08/19/11 - spoke with a customer service rep, then Stephanie Floor Lead/Supervisor) they told me it was their mistake & they couldn't explain why it had been added, but I have to pay it anyway & they will then credit my account on my next bill. I told them I cannot afford to pay the random charge/mistake then to be reimbursed in two months time. I was told if I do not pay this random added charge, I may incure late fees! After hearing this I asked if I could speak with a Manager, only to be told that the Manager had just gone into a meeting & will only repeat the same anyway. I'm outraged that I have overpaid on my last bill and now have to overpay on this bill when I can't afford to.
Demand for payment
We just received a "demand for payment" for services to a property that we sold 3 years ago. We did not receive anything from them prior to the nasty letter demanding payment and a threat to turn it over to a collection agency. On august 8, 2004, I cancelled the service to the address 16857 e. Napa drive, aurora, co. Our bill was paid in full at the time I cancelled it. What is the best way to handle this.
