Mixed Experiences at Anytime Fitness

Some customers praise the cleanliness, equipment variety, and friendly staff, while others express frustration with billing issues, unresponsive customer service, and unexpected charges. It seems like Anytime Fitness offers a convenient 24-hour option with potential for a great workout experience, but it might be wise to clarify membership terms and communication channels before committing. Can I first please acknowledge that I did sign an ongoing contract (stupidly without reading it carefully - my fault) and I accept responsibility. However I thought it was for 12 months. In February 2020 I rang and notified Anytime Fitness Currambine that I wasn’t going be attending anymore. The last time I used the Fob was on 24 February 2020. Again I...

My wife and I are contemplating harassment charges against the owner (Mike) and are in consultation with an attorney. This owner maintained a dirty facility in addition to being unprofessional, arrogant and having a demeaning demeanor. We were intimated in front of other patrons this past weekend and we told him that he was in breach of contract. We received a pro-rated refund, however, being harassed is yet another matter. Anytime Fitness goodwill in our neighborhood is a negative 1 and he should never be entitled to additional franchises. This franchise is in process of being bought by another franchise. The current Manager is in an awkward position because the current owner (Mike) is authoritative and not allowing the new Manager to do her job. She has the letter we hand-delivered and she confirmed everything is true in it. I strongly suggest you reach out to Angeline. This is not a trivial matter.

Anytime Fitness and ABC Financial unauthorized charges and credit reporting
My huge issue is with both ABC Financial and ANYTIME FITNESS ESPECIALLY CRAP gyms the deceptive advertisement on the ultimate cost of membership, the customer's ability (more accurately "inability") to cancel membership, the lying salespeople who trick you into joining by saying "you can cancel anytime", and the fraudulent billing practices their billing...

Gym membership
I started my gym membership around march of 2023 and never went due to a shoulder injury that I had at work. I informed "Linda" the office manager that I would like to cancel my membership due to this issue shortly after I got the membership. She informed me that I signed a 2-year agreement (which she did not, because I knew I would leave this town soon...

I’m a member of Anytime Fitness, summit building, Gomti Nagar, Lucknow. I’ve been a member for the past 3 years and being such a big brand anytime fitness promises it’s members that they’ll have access to all the branches all over the world yet today I was not allowed to workout at any other branch in my own city and was told to leave the gym in the middle of my workout . This is utter nonsense and unacceptable from such a big chain .
Desired outcome: I would like to take action against Indra nagar branch for not letting the members to avail their benefits of joining anytime fitness.I want the team to contact me and tell me the reason why I wasn’t allowed to workout.
Removal of individual machine TVs
So you’re taking away the individual TV’s. Obviously to save a buck. That’s always the reason.
Imagine, if you will, two wall-mounted screens (set off to the side so two of five-plus users cannot adequately see the screen.) The remaining three … are they supposed to vote on what channel to turn to or do we start Anytime Fitness wrestling, a new AF activity?
Of course, one doesn’t need a TV. Have any of you done any indoor, i.e., gym, aerobic activity? It’s boring as hell. The only way that it’s tolerable is by being distracted by a TV. (I could use my tablet for viewing movies and use WiFi - that hasn’t been taken away yet - but the glare from the overhead lighting impedes using a tablet. The light switch/control is in a lockbox.)
Bring back individual machine TV’s

My son who is 18 had joined the gym and was told he could join for 3 months and then it’s rolling monthly and could cancel at anytime.
The website is very confusing no clear indication on how to do this (even staff member agreed) and so had to cancel with the bank.
Thinking that anytime fitness will contact me to clarify the cancellation, I heard nothing.
3 months later was told we owed 3 months fee.
My son went in and explained. Also showed the member of staff the difficulties on the website, told this would be waived.
Now told I will be charged after getting a phone call. What’s going on. There is no clarity and I feel I was missold.
I will now want compensation for my stress and inconvenience as well as my fee waived.

Illegally deducted money from my bank account after membership expiration
Hi,
I have taken the Gym membership in jan 2023 from Anytime fitness Wentworthville.
At the time of taking the membership I clearly told, I will be moving to new zealand but based receptionist explaination she said I have to take the membership at least for 6 month after that they close the contract.
However I have never used the gym after 3 month itself because I had already reallocated that time.
As per initial coversation and agreement, contract has been already closed in june 2023 but anytime fitness team is still deducting my money
They have never contacted me for renewal of request or membership update and hidden way they are stealing my money. even clearly said I will be not using gym after 3 month itself.
Hence july & aug month money has stolen from my account illegally.
Desired outcome: I need money money to be refunded and close the membership immidiatly

05-05-2023 At 9:30 in the evening, my friend moved to my neighborhood. She had the idea of fitness. I took my friend to GYM to experience it. On the third day, your Anytime Fitness staff sent me a message in chinese saying that I took my friend there. Because I was busy with work, I didn't reply to the message. After a while, at an interval of 20 minutes, they threatened me verbally and said that they would hand over my friend to the police. I was instantly surprised and angry. It was my fault that I brought my friends in. You can tell me that I violated the rules of the GYM and need to be fined. I am ok. I will bear the corresponding mistakes. But is this how Anytime Fitness employees talk to customers? I am very disappointed with Anytime Fitness. I have already paid the fine, I hope you have a solution.
Such staff are very disrespectful and very sketchy

Issues
- Friday 28th I was charged 19.95$ membership fee, then Tuesday 2nd May Stephanie informs me that my account has been frozen. I was then charged the membership fee of 19.95$ again on Friday 5th May. Charged for my membership every Friday since I have signed up eventhough I was told my acocunt was frozen. I have it in writing that Stephanie says “Your own membership was blocked” on the 4th May 2023, and proof of payment from my bank.
- To provide me with the confidition that if Jake pays for a fee that has 100% NOTHING to do with me, then my 60$ fee will be waived, is unlawful, unprofessional and unfair..
- Rude, irrational and unprofessional manager– Stephanie M.
- Fined 60$ when I was NOT notified by anyone that my friend Jakes account was frozen and his card worked 2 days before. When I said I disagree with the charges and will not pay, Stephanie M, branch manager in Liverpool, laughs and says its not my choice.
Stephanie M, the manager of the Liverpool branch, is extremely unprofessional, argumentative, irrational and innapropriate. I joined Anytime Fitness on the 18 of April. I attended the gym for the first time on 19th of April at around 9-10pm (after my shift at a cafe). I went with my ex boyfriend, who at the time was my boyfriend - Jake. At the gym, he used a medicine ball, to work on his core. He did a Med Ball Rotational throw (which is usually done against a wall. When searched up on Google, all images shown are against a wall). Jake didnt intend to hit the wall, however, it still hit the very bottom and damaged it slightly. This was his mistake, and even though it was an accident does not mean he should be exempt from consequences, I understand that. However, that situation has nothing to do with me. I was not involved in any of this in the slightest. I did not do this exercise nor did I touch a Medicine ball. After this incident, Stephanie called Jake and told him that he needed to pay for the damage to the wall. I don’t know when exactly she called him, however, he told me on the 21st of April. He only told me that Anytime Fitness wants him to pay for damages, nothing more as on the 21st of April, I was working a shift at the cafe from 11am-9pm and he had visited on the only break I had for 30 minutes. We had other things to talk about, and he did not want me to stress about it. The second time I went to the gym was Friday the 21st of April. This time, Jake tapped his card first and opened the gym door and held it open for me, then I tapped. I distinctly remember his card worked. Then the third time I went to the gym was Sunday 23rd April. On Sunday, I tapped first, opened the door, then he tapped. His card beeped the same way mine did. That was the last time I have been to the gym to this day.
A few days later we were passing the gym, and he said he wanted to check if his card works. He scanned his access pass and tried to open the door and it did not work. He then explained that they did threaten to freeze his card when they called, but he did not say when. After Jake flew back to Coffs Harbour on the 28th of April he received an email from Anytime Fitness. He told me he got the email that they wanted to charge him 600+$ for the wall. That is when I wrote a Google review. That coming Sunday and Tuesday. I had a lot of university work due. Hence I did not plan to go to the gym for a while. After my submission on Tuesday, I wanted to go to the gym and remembered I had missed calls from Anytime Fitness. Without having any idea what they were about as I was not informed of the reason for the calls, I returned the call to Anytime Fitness. To my surprise Stephanie said with barely any explanation or pleasantness said I was going to be fined 60$ as I let a non-member into the gym. Jake was not a non-member, he was a member who’s account had been VERY RECENTLY frozen. Nor was I informed of it at the time he entered. There was also no way for me to know as when he tapped the tap his card, the machine beeped exactly like mine did. And 2 days before, on the weekend, his card did work. I had no reason to think it suddenly wouldnt.
During our call on Tuesday, Stephanie was very argumentative, and hostile. I explained Jake isn’t in the state anymore so it wont happen again, and on the one incidence it did, I had no clue that his card was frozen. I reassured her he will not be returning to the branch nor will he be going to Anytime Fitness anymore. From the way she responded she was clearly not listening. She brought up irrelevant points. She said that “the way it seems is that I’m avoiding Anytime Fitness (calling her back) because I know I’ve done something wrong” and that “I’ve only called them back because they blocked my card and froze my account”. However, I had absolutely NO clue they froze my account, I had just submitted my assignment that Tuesday and was planning to go that day. I had no idea how urgent or serious the missed calls were. There was no message or email, or any other attempts to communicate with me other than missed calls.
I told her. I did not know they froze me account. She asked me when he left Sydney and I said Friday the 28th of April. She was insinuating I was lying about being uncomfortable talking about my ex to avoid the fine. She then said how come I posted a review about the incidence 2 days ago on google (30th April). I never said we were no contact, I simply said we broke up and I was uncomfortable talking about it. She then said that the way it seems to her is that I was avoiding their calls and then posted that review, which made it seem like I was on his side. I have no idea what that has to do with me and my 60$ fine. I told her I didn’t answer because I was at work. I work at the hospital cafe from 11-8pm on most weekdays and only get a 30 minute break. She has always called me during those hours hence I did not pick up and couldn’t call back because it was after hours. This week, she called me on Monday, and I called her back on Tuesday. She then says. Why didn’t I call her during my 30 minute break…I am an international medicine student. I have many other things I have to do before returning a missed call from anytime fitness. I work from 11am to 8:15pm, and that 30 minute break is the only time I have to eat lunch/dinner, call my mum who’s in my home country, school work. She’s arguing as if my not calling her back is me avoiding taking responsibility. I pointed out I was the one who called her that Tuesday. She said the google review was incriminating. She asked if I was there when the wall was damaged, I said yes and she asked me why I didn’t report it. I said because it had nothing to do with me. I then said again what does this have to do with my 60$ fine. She then said she’ll talk to management and update them of the story.
She had not called me back, so I called her on Thursday 4th of May. She said that she wasn’t working yesterday but she has talked to management and they are only willing to waive the fine if Jake pays 616$ for damage to the wall. I then said I do not agree to pay the 60$. She laughed and said “its not your choice”. I then asked what happens now, if my account will stay frozen until I pay the 60$. She then said she was going to charge me 60$ today and unfreeze my account. I asked what exactly am I being charged for. She said for tailgaiting and allowing a non member to enter. I said he is a member. She said that what I should have when I went with Jake was tap my card, open the door, go through the door and close the door behind me. Then wait behind the door for Jake to do the same. Then walk up the stairs and do the same with the upstairs door. I said that was an unreasonable expectation and there are many other people who go to the gym together who did what I did. She then said that I as a member I was instructed to do so. However, I explained I wasnt, on 18th of April, I signed up to Anytime Fitness with Yogita K. She showed me where to tap my card to enter and during her demonstration, she held the door open for another member. The demonstration I was shown, the door was held open for a member while they tapped, which is EXACTLY what I did. That was the demonstration shown to me by YOUR staff. Stephanie said she can check the recording and I said she should. At the end of the call I have asked Stephnaie for her request to fine me in writing on email.
After receiving the email, I will accept to pay this fee as it is written in the contract I signed. However, this could have all been avoided if Stephanie, the manager, was not as u professional, rude and argumentative as she was approaching the topic. She should have informed me of freezing my card instead of assuming I knew and assuming thats why I called. She should have emailed me or even messaged me formally about wanting to charge me 60$ instead of waiting over a week for me to call her back without me even know that the matter was, and that it was as serious as it is. I am a rational person, and understand that if those are the rules, and it just so happens that his card was frozen then thats that. But instead she assumed I knew his card was frozen when I held the door for him, assumed I was lying about aspects of my break up, assumed I was ignoring their calls and I was only calling back because I found out they blocked my card.
Without all of these assumptions, insinuations and irrational argument points brought up be Stephanie (like saying I should have called her back during the one 30 minute break I get during my 9 hour shift from 11am-8:15pm), I would have quite easily obliged to have paid the fee if she was more professional. However, from our first call, she was immediately hostile and argumentative. This whole experience has honestly made me regret ever joining Anytime Fitness and has completely ruined my excitement for joining the gym the first time in my life. Its quite sad that if I had just joined in my home country (Malaysia) like my mum had, or even just a different branch in Sydney, I would not feel this way. I know 60$ may seem like a small amount to some, but it is not to me. Either way I understand that I have to pay the fine. I would like 19.95$ refunded as I was informed my account was frozen on 2 occasions - Tuesday (02/05) and Friday (05/05), yet I have been charged every week since signing up.
Desired outcome: I would like 19.95$ refunded as I was informed my account was frozen yet have been charged every week since signing up. 60$ fine was waived
