My father is suffering from cancer (which we just found out). Just before Christmas the doctors determined that he needed emergency surgery to repair C6, C7 and T1; the doctors also know that L1 is damaged too. It was during this surgery the cancer was found.
He had gotten a prescription filled on 12/20/2022 for a 30-day supply of pain meds (Hydrocodone) to be taken every 6 hours. After his surgery on 12/31/22 the doctors wrote another prescription of the same meds but listed it to take as often as needed. CVS store #4374 refused to fill it. The only difference here was the fact that how often he was allowed to take it had changed.
During his doctor's visit on 1/12/2023 he explained to his doctor that the meds were not working, so she increased the kind of pain meds. The pharmacy (pharmacist is a Dr. Nwame) refused to fill it today. He is in pain and your pharmacy does not care. I know the pharmacist told me at the window that the prescription could not be filled because one was filled on last week. Which is not true. It was refused.
I went to dad's and checked the bottle to see if he had one from last week and he doesn't. When I spoke with the pharmacist, he insisted that he had not told me that. Then he proceeded to cast aspersions by stating "I see you have been getting medicines at 2 different CVS locations. That has you flagged. When in fact if he would have taken the time to see the Red Springs store (#4374) did not have a pharmacist on duty on 12/20/2022 when the meds were sent to Hope Mills where my sister lives.
I have spent an inordinate amount of time on the phone today between doctor's offices and your CVS location that could have been better spent. I do not appreciate your pharmacist's actions to say the least. For starters:
He should do his research when he wants to accuse someone of using multiple pharmacies; He should have looked at the Dr. Yarborough prescription to see that the dosage had changed to as needed he would have then understood why dad needed his pain medication today.
He is rude and took this as an opportunity to add to the suffering of a patient and his/her family rather than serve as part of the solution to the issues we are facing. Even told me I could find the complaint information online via search, he wasn't going to give me that information.
Desired outcome: I have no idea. I do not believe CVS deserves the State of NC employee's contract. A great start would be to overturn that decision and as a retired educator myself, I will work to have this changed.
