I received a call, caller id showed Phoenix, AR [protected]). Rep. with strong accent stated that I had been selected to receive $125 Gas card and $600 Grocery and she wanted my card number just to verify that I was the authorized card holder and she wanted the expiration date. Her company would be mailing out the cards that I had won free, only with a $5.95 shipping fee that needed to be charged to my card the day after I was going to receive the free cards. She needed to make sure that the logos matched and needed to know if it was VISA or MC. When I refused to give her any numbers she said that her supervisor could explain it better. Then a man with even more of an accent told me that his name was Love Williams and that his id number was 1104 and that his company is in collerabtion with VISA & MC to give away these free cards to the customers that already have cards and use them at Walmart and the grocery stores and gas stations. I refused to give him my card numbers, he started to get upset. I then told him that I wanted his number to call him back once I thought about it. He didn't give me a number but hung up instead. Please do not give your numbers out to any one and please be careful of scams like this.

Yes, I got a very similar call for a free 100 dollar Walmart card and 100 dollar gas card and all I had to do was pay 3.95 shipping and handling and they would mail it to me and they needed to verify the expiration of my credit card. Which makes me wonder what credit card they had in the first place. The "$3.95" was mentioned so many times in the conversation made me think that they sure were wanting that 3.95 awfully bad. I told them this sounds like fraud and told them to quit calling my cellphone number and mail me the information. Of course they would have my address right? lol... I hung up. Not sure if it's legitimate or not, but I'm not risking identity fraud for it. They have called 5 times now. Numbers calling me have been [protected].

I too was offered the same rewards. they have all been a scam. This company should be made to pay everyone thier money back, and give the people what they said they would!

Pissed off that they can get by with this when everyone is struggling to make ends meet!

They should be sued!

Same thing happened to me woman with a heavy accent said she was calling from AZ. She wanted to give me a free $100. gift card that could be used for gas, food, Target or Walmart. She claims that she need a 3.95 fee which could be paid after I bought a Visa Gift Card from Walmart and gave her the expiration date on the card.
she called from [protected]

She already had my address. Which is a bit scarry.

They said they would send me a $100 gift cad if I gave them my "customer registration #" on the front of my card and when I told them thats my credit card # he wanted to argue. So I hung up. Later he called back trying to sound nice and when I asked for his phone number he said I have to give him my card number first so of course I hung up

I got a call last night. Same thing a guy with a thick accent, said that I had won a 100$ giftcard from walmart and that he would send me a bunch of discount coupons as well. His name is Frank Vargas and had a 1 877 number. He said that he only needed 3.95 for shipping and handling. then I though how did you say that I won? I have only used cash at Wal-mart for the past year. He said that I used a card within the last week, which is a lie because I have deactivated any card that could have been used. Then I started to wonder how he got my phone number because it's a brand new number that is not even listed. He started to get aggitated when I told him that I did not have any money on my debit cards. He said not even a dollar so that I can authorize this and send you your giftcard? I said no, I dont use it anymore. He kept trying to persuade me to let him call me back tomorrow after I put money on the card. I said no thank you and hung up.

I feel so foolish because after speaking to an indian man with a thick accent named Matt Wilson for over 3 hrs, I finally decided to give my credit card number to him to receive a 600 walmart giftcard and 300 gas card. He promised me and vowed that this was not a scam. However, he had someone call me back name Gavin Dawson, who put me on a line to agree to the charge of 4.40 for a shipping and handling charge, but the verification included me listening to a message about magazine subscriptions after the verification he asked if i was married and where i worked. I didnt answer those questions, but I asked him why he was asking and he said for verification purposes. When I did not answer, he hung up on me. I inconviently blocked/cancelled the credit card. But, I figure, I rather be safe than sorry.

I also got a call from a man with an Indian accent telling me about a $300 gift card to Walmart and a free vacation for 3 people to any 5 star hotel. After asking him a lot of questions, I searched online while still on the phone and found this blog. I just declined his offer a minute ago. Never trust these kinds of offers.

In Oct, somebody called (a foreign lady with a very thick accent) and was talking about a free walmart and gas card. I'm 18 and I was thinking, "well, uh, okay, " FREE GAS, sure! I don't remember anything else. She had my dedit card information already, which was kinda weird, I thought. So I cancelled that card and then I started to receive magazines. And then bills! Bills started coming in saying I haven't paid for the magazines. I sent them a letter Dec. 5, told them to not send me anything else, that I don't remember signing up, etc; I received another bill the other day. I called them SEVERAL TIMES. They wouldn't pick up. I finally got somebody today. The first person who answered got "disconnected". Same for the next two. Finally I talked to this lady who told me that I could cancel but my bill was 900 dollars. I almost fainted. She then said she could reduce the bill to 600 dollars out of the kindness of heart! My god. I told her to take me of the list, do not send me any more magazines. I don't want anything! She told me that I was due to pay 200 dollars once a month starting in Feb. I just hung up. I don't know what to do, now. I guess, I'm stuck paying the money. I'm going to call back again tomorrow and tell them all my complaints. Probably cry a little. Any advice?

So I called back. I got exchanged from person to person. They explained to me how the company that handles the people in the beginning is not the actual number we get later or the people we pay. The people I'm supposed to pay speak English very clearly. The bill went from $974 (prices may be a little off, not real sure) to $642 to $360. I just have to assume they would probably keep going down with the price. I'll call at a later time and talk to someone else and see what I can do.
However, I will never again even listen to anybody on a number I don't recognize or know! Never again.

I just received a telephone call from my home phone number. Some lady that I could barely understand (because of her accent) was trying to give me a free $100 giftcard for Walmart for being a good customer and paying my bills. The lady already had my name and address. I listened and then she wanted my credit card number and expiration date and I hesitated. I told her I was not sure about this and she transferred me to some other guy who tried to get it. I finally told him I was not interested and hung up on him. DO NOT FALL FOR THIS SCAM!

The lady didn't mention the magazines till the end. She told me all i had to pay was shipping and handling charges for a trail of their services and then she mentioned magazines at the very end. I cancelled my card and have not been billed anything. How soon after the call did u get any bills or charges?

I had a similar scam happen with a number from California, although the callers were clearly not from America. They said they were calling with respect to my credit card ending in XXXX (and they had the correct last four digits), and they wanted to confirm that my mailing address was X (which they also had correct). They were going to send me a free Walmart gift card and gas card, and all I had to do was take a look at their direct mail offer. No further obligation apparently. Ok fine, send me the free gift card, I thought.

Then after confirming the address with me (which they already had, I didn't divulge any info to them), they said "I'm going to connect you to my supervisor to make sure I did my job properly." The supervisor then started asking for more information on my account, and I hung up on him. They called back several more times, but I didn't answer.

A few days later, I got an identical call, and I said, "Please take me off your list!" He kept on going with his pitch, and I told him, "I know exactly what you're going to do - first you're going to confirm my address, then you'll connect me to a supervisor who will try to pry more info from me. I'm not interested. Please take me off your list." He said, "Ok, sir, " and that was the end of the call. Haven't heard from them since.

Dafutur315, if they didn't take out any charges (the ones for shipping and handling) they might not send you anything? I don't know but I sure hope not! They started sending bills like two to three weeks after they called. I had forgotten, gone out of town, came back with five bills from them!

I'm wishing you so much luck that you don't go through this!

I thought well yeah hell ya ill take free gas anyday right? Wich I'm sure lots of people would think. It sounded so so real then as we confirmed right when i thought o wow its real he said o wait sir there's a 3.90$ charge for shipping an handling.. I said i do not give my information over the phone he said its completly safe asked if i was over or the age of 18 a blah blah blah then i said ok ill fake a number.. For thea card.. I've had a man and woman call me from the exact same number two weeks apart from each other. Suprisingly enough the number they called me from was [protected] on April 12, 2010 at 10:02am. The lady had called me two weeks prior and like everyone I wanted free groceries. Then the catch, and I said, "Hell NO!". CLiCK!

When the man called me I asked what I had signed up for to receive this free giftcard. Of course, we work with credit card companies and they have us distribute these giftcards as a compliment to you. And that because of my recent purchase of gas using my card I was selected to receive this gift. I asked him how recent. He said within the last week. WTF...I highly doubt it! He then asked me if I carry a Visa or Mastercard. I said, "If you're working with the credit card companies wouldn't you know which card I hold, or even used to purchase my gas. At this point I knew it was a load of crap because I hadn't used either of my cards to purchase gas in over a month. I told him that I carried both. He said, "Which card do you carry, Visa OR Mastercard?" I said, "BOTH!" He then seemed to get very excited...that's when I hung up.

DO NOT FALL FOR IT! As convincing as it may sound. If someone is going to give you something for free by calling YOU they wouldn't need you to pay the measly shipping and handling fee.

What is wrong with these indian people?! they think they can just scam everyone, i'm disgusted!

the same exact situations youre all describing just happened to me. They called from a blocked number with an extremely thick accent and i began questioning them right away. they said i had won 2500 to walmart and also 100 in gas. He said his name was Shane Wilson, employee number KC007, and worked for Adaptive Marketing. Then the whole thing about how they needed my name, and then address, finally the shipping costs came up. They said it was only going to be 1.95. They asked how id be paying for it over and over and what "plastic" i would be using. He was asking weird all throughout like how old are you, are you married. of course i didnt answer anything but it was freaking me out...it gets worse. Then he said he'd give me his credit card number, exp date and asked me to repeat it back to him. when i said they were ridiculous, he asks "whats wrong with you, are you ###ed" and I asked for a supervisor, apparently they didnt have one. The last things he said to me were i love you i love you and wouldnt stop until i just hung up. im so freaked out.

I just recieved a call from a woman named Jennifer. ha ha sure...soke so fast she sounded from anpther planet. Free gas card discounts at wal-mart yadda yadda yadaa...Told me the company's name was Discount Shopping Network. only obligation was the 3, 95 shipping fee. then she turned me over to a gentleman ( i say that loosly) with even a worse accent. He kept promising that this was not a scam. When I refused to give my card number he gave me a phone number with and ext. and he would call back in 10 min. So I called the number he gave me and i got an answering machine for a Moble Home Park. HA HA> it's been 20 min and he hasn't called back yet. But when If he doe's ( which I doubt) I'm going to blow a Whistle in his ear...HA HA

Yesterday I called the 800 number of Lowes from their online site and I was rerouted by only being prompted to press #1 to redeem my free $100 gift card and gas card. When I finally did so this woman with an Indian accent started the same scam tactic with me. What is scary is I thought I won the gift card through Lowes Home Improvement. I did hang up after she insisted on my credit card #, I did give her my adress, first and last name. I dialed the number again and it was Lowes this time.

Same thing i guess the scam is still going on. Woman with heavy indian accent claimed to be offering a free walmart gift card all i had to do was pay a $3.95 "activation fee" with a visa or mastercard logo. When i tild her i woukd not give my credit card number over the phone she got very upset and told me that if i didnt i couldnt get the gift card. I then put her on mute and she kepy saying hello for about 2 minutes. Definitely a scam who would stay on the line if i was the one to gain something out of it. Dont fall for it! Number that called me is [protected]. Tried calling it back and it wont let me talk to anyone because i am not a "paying subscriber"

I had the same people keep calling me. I think it's fun. Not for them of course. See, this lady with a very rough accent (indian i think) calls me, I play games with her. I annoy her. I say, "Well how do you. Ma'm? Ya know I was thinking about going blonde. Do you think that that's a good color for my skin color? I don't know." I notice that while I'm talking, she's STILL trying to talk over me! Then I start babbling. "WHOMP WHOMP WHOMP...so on" Then silence. I start talking non'sense to her, and she hangs up. So 2 minutes later (which was very odd) she calls me again. I pretended to have a indian accent too, and started talking about shishcabobs and to have my number erased. Usually they don't do that anyways, but she never did call again...

Okay, I received a very similar call from AZ. The man, Wayne Watson with a thick Indian accent claims I shopped at Walmart recently and I explained that it's impossible as I boycott Walmart because of the mistreatment of their employees and I NEVER shop there. He insisted that I was a special customer and Walmart is a fantastic company. I told him I was not interested and to remove me from his list, etc. He kept pushing the $2.95, had my name and address which I was very uncomfortable with. He asked if I trusted him and I said NO. He insisted he was a good soul and he was not going to harm me. I told him to take the $2.95 less the $100 or bill me. He continued that he needed my card with "low money". I said No and after 10 minutes of exchange, I finally hung up. This is not okay. Below is the info he gave me and the number he called:
