First off, let me state the fact that I have always paid my debts and maintained a credit score in the low 800’s.
I lost my wife (who was the main Kohls card user). After her death, in February of 2023 I found the card and charged $30.00-$35.00 on it. I was out of town for several weeks. Upon my return, my mail had piled up.
After I got home, I found a 30 day past due notice. As soon as I found it, I called and paid it. I was I was told that everything was OK.
When my Discover bill came which included my credit score. I found that Kohls had filed against my credit as none payment for not 30 but 60 days. As a result, my credit rating dropped to less than 700. It has now only climbed to only 714. Kohls is the only negative mark on my record in 78 years. I have sent a copy of my bank statement where I paid the Kohls bill including a late charge and a copy of my credit report.
I know it has been two years, but, I have just not had the energy to fight this until now. The credit bureau told me ask Kohl’s to consider the circumstances and send a letter and excuse this wrongful report, they will update my record. So far, all I have gotten is the run around.
