Less than a year after purchasing my new Maytag washer on September 30, 2020, my washer lid had to be replaced due to a crack in the plastic near the open and close right hinge of the lid. The exact same crack happened in the exact same place in August 2021 and the lid had to replaced again. The exact same thing happened yet again in October 2022. I called to make a report and see about getting it replaced, but it was just outside of the one year parts warranty and I could not spend nearly $400 to replace a lid for a new washer that was less than three years old that I had paid $700 for and had already had the same issue two times prior. Maytag would not help me. This is obviously a faulty product quality issue. I was told by the last technician that was replacing my lid for the second time that he has seen this same thing numerous times with this washer. I should not have to replace a lid every year on a brand new washer. It is the same issue each time. There are two hinges encased in plastic that are responsible to open and close a soft close lid that is heavy glass. It is a bad design that is obvious to any normal person. And now there are cracks on both the left and right side of the lid near the hinges. I have them held by duct tape, but it is becoming a problem. I am very unhappy with this result. I had a Maytag washer and dryer prior to this set, that lasted 17 years. This is why I chose to stay with Maytag. Something should be done about this product design. I know I am not the only consumer that has this problem and it is a product quality issue that is of no fault by me, the consumer.
Desired outcome: My desired outcome would be that Maytag recognizes my statement above and replaces my lid as a lemon at no cost to me. I would even pay for the labor if the part would be covered for me at no cost. Thank you. Laurie Pearce [protected]
Thanks for your response, but I do not believe for one minute that it is not a common problem. A washer lid should not crack at the hinges every year in the exact same way on a brand new washer[any washer should not do that]. It is clearly a faulty design. I purchased from a local family owned dealer, and no, there is no additional warranty coverage. Maytag wanted me to purchase an extended warranty to cover the lid which would cost me $400 a year, the same cost to replace the lid outright. By the way, I paid $700 for the entire washing machine. What would resolve the problem for me as a consumer who bought a brand new washer that has a lemon lid/faulty design, that has been replaced twice in the first three years and now needs replacing again, is for Maytag to recognize and take responsibility for a product issue that is no fault of the consumer and replace my washer lid. I even agreed to pay the labor[which I should not have to do], and they send me the new lid at their cost. That is more than reasonable. I should not have to pay anything. I was a Maytag customer for 17 years prior to this purchase and this has left a very bad taste for me about Maytag.
