Dear Sir or Madam,
My name is Roseann Alvarado, I reside directly across from your store #31
Located at 450 Kings Highway, Brooklyn N.Y. 11223.
I am writing this letter to express my concern at the above-mentioned store of an ongoing quality of life issue that has continued for the past several months unaddressed.
As you may already know New York City has a vast homeless problem, your store and my place of domicile are located one city block away from a subway station that unfortunately attracts a vast array of mentally ill and homeless individuals through no fault of their own find this stores parking lot, a refuge where they can rest, sleep, eat, drink and use the cars parked and a tree that is in front of my house as their private bathroom where the stench of urine and feces is the ambiance of the day, that I have to endure on a regular basis.
And when they decide to leave which sometimes entails 12 hours from sunup to sundown, I also have the unpleasant pleasure of hearing therapeutic Chinese music playing loudly from a device while 4 to 5 Chinese women practice and exercise Falun Gong in the same mentioned parking lot which normally starts around 7:30pm and ends around 11pm.
I have spoken and expressed my concerns to your store manager George, and he is aware and has tried to help but to no avail.
Just to give you a little insight of the “quality of my life,” living directly in front of this store, my husband suffers from a heart condition and does not sleep much or extraordinarily little because of said noise. My workday begins at 4:30 a.m. If I am lucky, I will get 4 hours of sleep, which is not acceptable for either myself or my husband and when I leave my home, in the early a.m. I must contend with these individual(s) asleep in your parking lot. My husband must then wake up and escort me outside to ensure my safety daily.
Local police have been made aware of this situation as well as my community board and district council members, but no action or remedy has been implemented by any of them or your staff to clear this parking lot of this persistent and egregious problem. I realize that your business is an essential part of our community and its people. This building and parking lot’s sole purpose is to generate revenue not to harbor undesirable individuals or be utilized as a venue and disturb the residents of this community.
I am counting on your management team to have insight and produce a viable solution that will rectify this problem and ease this community of this ongoing quality of life issue. I hope this letter gets the attention it needs, and action that is required.
