answering phone
Today I called to try a place an order and no one answered. This is about the third time this has occurred with me. When I get there and ask them if the phone is broken the employees says "no we just turned it off and forgot to turn it back on". I don't think this is how I would like my business run if I owned it. I love eating at Waffle House, but if thi...

Me, my father and his girlfriend went to the Byram Waffle House Saturday night 12/8 at around 9:30. Two of the waitresses. She brought eggs all watery with a burned waffle that did not have the pecans in it...
Read full review of Waffle Housepoor service, deplorable management
Ever felt ignored? I just got totally ignored by the employees of this Waffle House on November 22, 2012 at approximately 6:35 P.M.. The cook was occupied cleaning the grill and other parts of the cooking area while another cook-type person was on the phone in back. Two waitresses were working the dining area and both appeared to be mad at the world when I came in. It took a while before one of them decided that I must want something and everything went downhill from there. I felt like I was doing the employees a service by coming in. One of the waitresses finally asked me if "she" (referring to the other waitress) had taken my order. I replied that no one had taken my order. She determined that I wanted to eat and took my order. After finally placing my order, the cook quickly prepared most of the meal, all the while listening to his portable music player. When that part of the meal was finished he placed it on the counter and mentioned that the rest would be out shortly. I noticed that the two waitresses were sitting together on the counter facing the food preparation area. I began to eat fully expecting the rest of the order to come soon. It did not. The waitresses finally got up and began washing pots and pans but not once checking on me or on the unfinished order. Both occasionally walked right in front of me without even looking up to see if I needed anything. Finally, I finished eating what had been prepared of the order and decided to just leave. As I approached the cash register, one of the waitresses remembered that I had more of the order coming. I just told her that I was not going to pay for that part of the order but would take care of the part I received. She immediately went on defense, saying that she had told the others to take care of the remainding part of the order. I voiced my concerned, enumerating what I had observed during my short visit. I offered to pay for the part of the order I received but she told me that I did not have to pay for anything. Great gesture but I would have preferred to have my entire order. All I can say is something needs to be done about the deplorable management, lack of motivating leadership and poor employee performance at this Waffle House Since I was the only person sitting at the counter and only two other customers were in the restaurant, I did not think offering service would be difficult. Apparently it was. This is not what I expect from Waffle House, even on the evening shift on a holiday weekend. I am highly disappointed in this Waffle House and especially in the management who evidently condons this kind of poor performance. The employees are only doing what their management encourages and allows.

unfairly let go
I worked for waffle house two different times. I worked on the 3rd shift at both stores I worked .I was rehired at the ann street store when I walked in one day and they had no help and ask if I would come back and I knew most of the people who came in there and the people who were working there and they truly needed help, a bunch had walked out on them. But first let me tell you why I am ticked off, , I always showed up for my shift and was only late once and I called to let them know in plenty of time, it was only and hour and I never called out sick, , even ran errands sometime to go pick up employees that needed a ride to work and sometimes go from store to store to pick up something we would be out of at times, just so you know no gas money was I given to me either. But for the moment I will skip that. I started out at the ann street store and later on transfered out to the new store in middlelyne (cant spell it lol)but anyway we were working 3rd shift and we were really busy, in fact the time seem to fly by that night ay way one of the girls I was working with was up by the register and I went to ring up my customer and I told her I was gonna drop all that money and she shut the drawer on me and said she would do it when she rang up her customer so I went on back to work.A bunch of money turned up missing the next morning.and I knew I didnt do it and I suggested we take a lie dectector test but no one would say we could that, , well they let the whole shift go and the girl I thought did it quit the next day because she had another job. Guess what they hired her back a week or so later.
I have always been a very straight forward person and honest, no drugs like some of the people I worked with, I even called waffle house and tried to talk to them but got no where with that...when they rehired me at ann street when they needed me ...then they said after a month that I wasnt suppose to be able to be rehired ...the moral of this true story is, , , being honest and loyal to my job wasnt worth it

very rude and unprofessional
After arriving at the Waffle House store #1939 in Birmingham, AL, it was very busy which was to be expected after. There were a lot of people there that attended the Susan G. Coman breast cancer walk. There was a table available for us but wasn’t cleaned yet. So we waited until the waiter bust the table but it still hadn’t been wiped down. The manager on duty tells us that we can sit they will wipe it off in a minute. We immediately told him no we will wait until its completely cleaned before we sit. After it was cleaned we sat and ordered our food. The manager “Terry” constantly puts his hands in and out of his pockets, plays with his cell phone all while making waffles with no gloves. His fingernails were tremendously dirty and he touches the inside of the to-go plates directing orders. We got our food and when my friend tasted her hashbrowns she said they were not done. The waiter came and got her plate, told the manager of the complaint and he “Terry” told the cook to put those hashbrowns back on the grill and cook them harder (the ones that were eaten out of). Later while we sat there eating Terry continued to make waffles with no gloves, playing on cell phone and putting hands in and out of his pockets. He made a waffle and put it on the plate, ended up knocking the waffle off on the floor, the plate broke and the waffle was on top of the broken plate. He hurried and pick the waffle up and put it onto another plate while commenting “This the waffle house now” and sent it out to the customer to eat, like as if they drop people food all the time. He didn’t know if broken glass was on that waffle or not. After that I left. Something needs to be done about this nasty rude and unsanitary environment.
unsanitary
After making a big to go order, I noticed that the cook was making several unsanitary movements like scratching her face with her hands, wiping off the cooks board using her hands, scratching her head, I then told her to stop making my order and asked for the General Manager. After speaking to a very uncaring General Manager that gave no satisfaction at...

I was once envious of locales that had a Waffle House (they bailed from my state about 30 years ago) because they prepared the best breakfasts of anyone, and it was a good place to spread out your newspaper and have an excellent breakfast and good coffee. But not anymore.
Lousiest excuse for hash browns which were these wet soggy white wormy looking things that didn't even taste like potatoes, and the eggs weren't even cooked right. The coffee was C-. If you eat alone you MUST sit at the counter - they might as well let ya sit anywhere, the place was empty at 7:30 AM (and at this one the waitress just getting off work plopped her big butt down right next to me and had her junk spread all over the counter so no place for me to put my plate let alone a newspaper) AND she sat there and jawed with the one behind the counter who meantime ignored me completely for almost 10 minutes!
What on earth happened to this outfit - say the last 5 yrs or so? I recalled that my last few trips to a Waffle House recently (all in the Midwest) also were disappointing - but it had been a while so I forgot. Heck they used to serve great food and the help was fast and courteous. Reverse opposite these days.
Anyway, no wonder it only had 3 customers in it yet the McDonalds across the street was packed. They can close 'em all for all I care. Never again.
They changed to a low quality cooking oil. It makes a world of deference believe me . was a manager, cook, and everything there for years. We went in a few weeks ago for kicks and giggles, and my girlfriend ordered a blueberry waffle. It came back with blueberry speckles of some sort. Come to find out it was legit . A blueberry handful of pills they added to the batter. I asked for one to see what it actually was, it resembled a jelly bean!
boss
I have worked for the Waffle house on and off for 6 years. I have never been treated so bad by any boss any where in any job I have ever worked till this Waffle house store # 1859. I have gone to him about things like other people not doing their job. I understand about being a new cook on a $500 shift but when they only did less than $200 and I walk into a disaster and do $300 in two hours with no stock no prep nothing . I got left with 1 bis. buttered and none for back up, not even the hash browns filled in the pan let alone my cooler was bare . Grease over flowing from the grease traps let alone it was full of hash browns . I simply asked my boss if the new guy had enough training to know his job .I was told no and I shouldn't from him, before my boss even checked the numbers. I have gone to him about other things and get belittled to the point of tears on the floor in front of customers, even after I asked more than once if I could speak to him in private. My hours get cut but his daughter can walk out 2 hrs. into shift and not loose her job but comes back and gets more hours than she had before she walked out. Christmas I changed jobs 5 times cause his daughter and her buddy who was sleeping with the other manager was having a bad day, so me being low man on totem pole got the brunt end. I don't even make $110 a week and I catch more grief than anybody. I go to anybody and it gets worse on me, I love my job I love the work, I just don't know where to turn or what to do. I think I am being treated unfair. No one deserves to be treated like me. Other waitresses agree they see what I do and what I go through. The waiter that used to sleep in the back got treated better than me. It seems if I say anything my hours get cut and if I do nothing they do less of their job. I have never asked for more than I do. His daughter can come in while I am working and she is off the clock in street clothes cook her and her friends free food, and get away with it but I cant ask a question with out getting treated like crap and told I need to show more initiative. I have sucked it up all I can. I understand my job and know my job well . I just don't understand why I am such a prime target for so much crap. I can do all the floors brick the grills all the prep all the fills clean the meat pans, clean the bathrooms take out all the trash from all the shifts (they leave it outside the back door if I am lucky and not in the back room) and I am still told it is not enough. Correct me if I am wrong but I was told make sure there is backup so the next shift will have some to start! I don't get that . All I get is grief . My manager is not professional at all ! I get a petty 24 hrs a week now instead of the 18 I had before yeah ! I have lost my place to live cause I cant live on what I make! I am told if I do more I will get more hrs but I have yet to see the light at the end of that tunnel. Jobs here are far and few in between ! I dont want to give up my job because of one horrible little man!

its time to move up to a adult job, I loved working at w.h., and had many great memorys at my store 589, only as much of it is still part of my soul, and great friends (pissy paychecks).Sometimes its time to move on.
discrimination & wrongful termination
I'm a former employee of the Waffle House located in Albemarle NC. On the 3rd of June i was scheduled to work, and on this particular night money was misplacedstolen from the register along with myself two of my co workers were responsible for any mishaps in the register. During the incident i was not handling the money neither was i dealing with the customer when the money went missing. I have never stolen money from anyone needless to say my place of employment i was the only employee from that shift terminated. I strongly feel this is an act of wrongful termination and discrimination.
I speak out with confidence in this matter the stores video will and should prove who committed the crime. Unlike my employer, i have went through some procedures to get this handled. I have contacted Waffles House corporate office and several lawyers to resolve this situation. This can & will not be swept under the rug. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to speak out.
the manager was extremely rude and a racist
My Niece's dirty diaper was left in my car and i realized it was in my back seat, so i pulled off to the side to throw it away and parked behind the Zoo Tavern to throw it away in the trashcan. An SUV pulls up behind me and honks. She said "You can't use this trashcan". I told her "I was just throwing away a diaper" she said "You can't use this trash can this is for business purposes only. I said "I am just throwing away a diaper". She told me go somewhere else and throw it away. I told her i threw it in the trash already. She told me to jump in the trashcan and get the diaper. I told her no i am not going to do that. She said she got my license plate number. I told her that is ridiculous. She told me to "get off her property ###".
I was completely shocked at the way she overreacted over a diaper being in her trashcan. It was rude and my race had nothing to do with me throwing a diaper in her trashcan.
I called up there to see who this person was that i had the exchange with, the guy on the phone told me it was the owner. Such a shame, I live right around the corner from this place and ate there once. I will never eat there again. The manager was extremely rude and a racist.
You couldn't swing the car around the corner go a block or whatever to your house and toss the thing away in your own trash?
And so you got caught.
Honey, as they say, "you stepped in it."
I can understand there was no excuse for the woman to call you the "N" word. However, you had no right to throw away a diaper in someone else's trash can. Business or Residential, you should have waited until you got home and place the diaper in your own trash can. How would you like if someone left trash at your front door of your house? You would not like it. At least I can say one thing: you did not litter the diaper out on the street like most people would do.

I was a customer at the Waffle House in Griffin Ga on the North Expressway. I placed my order for my food and watched the cook come inside the store from smoking a cigarette and handling the order book, and then I asked him if he could change his gloves. He went on to start swearing the situation calmed down and then the food was cooked. People that had placed their orders after me was receiving their order so I got up from the table in which I was sitting and asked the lady that had taken my order was my food done and she answered no that she messed up the ticket because she was in training and that he would have to redo it. I then told her to cancel my order and then went and sat in my truck . I would estimate that about twenty minutes later the guy sent an officer out to tell me to come and pay for my food. Then when I refused to pay for the food because I canceled my order, I was told that I was being placed under arrest for theft of services.
Actually I was waiting on my friends to come out.. So that's why I waited and anytime you use race that is a form of discrimination...

nasty employees
I have been eating at the waffle house on interstate drive in Norman oklahoma for years and there has been an employee there for awhile that really has made me stay away. Her name is Carla and she dies her hair red and she sells drugs and she talks really vulgar with the male customers, you could even call it prostitution. She has picked up drugs in the parking lot during work. I ask her one time if she had a food handlers card because she said she had been busted 2 times in Arkansas for meth with the intent to distribute. She weighs about 200lbs or more. She laughed at the food handlers card & said Waffle House didn't care or they would make their employees test for more than lung diseases. She has scratched her crotch & went right on serving food. I won't be back at any Waffle House until they get rid of the ### they are intent on serving my food.
She must've transferred to the one in Joplin, Mo. 'cause very similar person served me in that place. UGH! Scratches her crotch?
Maybe she filled spot vacated by one killed in the twister. Just sayin,
non trained employee
The Bill was 23.49 -I gave the waitress 30 dollars she rang up 63.49 -then when fellow employees tried to assist her she -she held up her hand took cell phone out of her pocket and calls her mother to try to get her to explain how cash register works in meantime I am waiting a good 20-30 minutes-as she was still clutching a 20 and a ten in her hand I asked a male employee to give me the ten back which he retrieved from the obvious stupid waitress and I gave her four dollars.I gave the cook who is knowledgeable a five dollar tip-however this idiot does not need to be working at waffle house until such time she can count and not need to call her mother for every customer!

horrible!!
if i had to rate it, it'd be well below 0.
service? horrible! one of the waitresses just stood around talking to her friends.
the cook never washed his hands, ugh!
and our waitress was the rudest person i've ever met.
the eggs were undercooked, the waffles were too.
i bit into something crunchy in my waffle that didn't taste like food at all.
i'll never be going back to that one, and i'm very angry that i spent 20 dollars there.
their atm was down and no one told us.
horrible place.

I had a few bad incidents with the waffle house on Lebanon ok, hermitage, they over charged on to go order, then I tried to eat in and sat for over five minutes and still nobody came to me..the hostess said I could sit there so I know that was ok, but the servers kept walking by my table, didn't knowledge me at all, manager and others standing around. Finally after 6 minutes of totally being ignored I got up and said to the manager standing right beside my table and the hostess, that I've been sitting there for over five minutes without anyone coming to me, they said oh gosh but I left. They are rude and not very good at their jobs at all.
discremination
i was refused an interveiw because i have tattoes in front of customers i was told to go to another franchise a week before i had applied and was told they were hiring i had on long sleeves at the time because it was cold my resume shows my qualyfications i was shut down no questions asked
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
They are allowed to deny you employment because of your tattoos. You do realize this right? It's part of a dress code. You CHOSE to get tattoos, and you can choose to have them removed if you don't want them to hold you back. If you had chosen to get your tongue pierced they could deny you employment for that too.
First, its spelled discrimination - perhaps your spelling is a reason. Other words include - interveiw, tattoes, qualyfications - complete lack of grammatical skills might be another.
roach infestiation-food not made right
On the Morning of 6/23/10 5:15 I went to the local Waffle House and ordered my Usuall Bowl of Chili. And Chicken Biscuit. Mind I have been a regular at waffle house for years.
I know the Chili is suppost to have diced fresh onions and the chicken is never to be pressed. What really grossed me out was watching the roaches crawl over the food and the cook doing nothing about it. I asked and they said they were trying to fix the problem.
I recently went back and the roaches were still there. the chicken and chili were finally made right, but bugs in a restaurant! I am calling the health department after i finish here. I will never eat at that Waffle House again no matter if the food was made right or not.
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
Did you go to the local health department? Yes, roaches are not permitted in any eating establishment. What's-more, if they have the outside entrance/exit door open, they are also in violation.
Makes no difference what the "brand" is, it's all illegal to "invite or have bugs in a dining room, kitchen or prep area... restaurant, school, soup kitchen, or otherwise.
Call the health Dept. right away. Pictures also substantiate your claim.
Yes, your comment is legit.
unfair pay stealing of money earned
I have a friend that works at the Waffle House in Brusly La.. The person is a waitress and is paid only two dollars and forty something cents per hour including tips.in this economy thier lucky to get a tip, anyway a tip is only a gesture for good service which is basicly determined whether the cook is prompt and gets the order rite. On the aplication they filled out it states they will make six to eight dollars per hour. What happened to the law regarding minimum wage? Concluding this complaint is another concern:how is it right, fair, or even legal for Waffle House to take money out of thier employees check when the cash register is short? My friend has had two paychecks totaly absorbed because of this. The money is taken from only the waitresses that worked that shift and not the managers who also have access to the cash register and who count the money at the end of the shifts. Waffle House has cameras on the cash register but not in the managers office where the register drawer is counted. How can a Waffle House waitress make a living with stuff like this going on? Times are hard enough! This is totally unfair and has got to be illegal!
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
dist manager not thinking
I went to Waffle House to get a sandwich and drink. The distric manager (Stormy) was there that day operating the rest. As I sat down and ordered, she pulled out a power washer that is run by a lawn mower engine. I asked her if she was going to use that in the rest, she never replied. She parked the unit next to the grill and started it up, lots of smoke...

It is poor service, but comping out your meal isn't exactly 'deplorable management', and not condoning poor performance. It sounds like she acknowledged they were in the wrong.
