letter of attack from president of window world
I made an inquiry to WW for estimate of 17 windows, Received a pleasant email from Katrina but in the interim I found time to do research on WW only to find out the multiple complaints and terrible customer service and not living up to their promises and all the loop holes I kindly advised her that due to the complaints I was no longer interested in their services and thanks her. It was to my surprise about an hour later I get the following letter from Greg Deathridge attacking me and other companies in a very nasty, aggressive tone that as an Executive professional I did not appreciate his approach and how compelled he was to defend the complaints and then question me for wanting to do business with him in a very condescending way. If executives act that childish it is no reason they have all these complaints. It should be Katrina the rep who contacted me taking over the Presidency of WW and Greg should be sitting at the call center earning his 7.25 per hour, , Regardless, here is the letter I received from him and happy to give anyone the original email for those that don't believe that an executive would act so childish:
Larry,
I understand you selecting someone else for your Window project however, in light of your comments I felt it important to lay out a few facts.
1. Window World is the largest installer of Replacement windows in the United States.
2. Window World has an A+ rating with the BBB. ( our complaint ratio Nationwide is .0003 %) By the way, if the complaint ratio is the sole reason for doing business with someone then I assume that you do not purchase product from Home depot or Lowes as both companies ratios are off the charts and neither belong to the BBB.
3. We are one of Three companies in the Country to earn the Prestigious Good Housekeeping Seal which gives you a Money back guarantee from their 100 year old organization. ( We looked and couldn’t find Thompson Creek on that list)
4. Window World is ranked above Anderson, Pella, Milgard and others by J.D.Power and associates. (Only Simonton ranked above us.) Further J.D. Power and Associates said in their published ranking report that Window World had the best Warranty package in the industry. ( We also checked this list and couldn’t find Thompson Creek)
5. Window World installs over I million windows per year so the fact that you would see a few complaints across the Country is not surprising when we are in 4 times as many houses as our closes competitor. ( That’s why we are ranked so high with the BBB because they understand that it is an exceptional feat to maintain a .0003% complaint ratio with this type of volume.
6. Window World has raised 2.2 Million for ST. Jude’s Children’s hospital in only 4 years. (That’s why I was taken aback by your comment that “ you would not feel comfortable doing business with a company like us” wow!
7. Window World’s installed price is 50% less than what you just paid with Thompson Creek with a product that doesn’t rank as high.
Finally, I’ll close with this question… If you have a small tear in your Window screen 5 years down the road will Thompson creek come back a replace the screen for you with no questions ask? Window World would!

horrible windows
Don't and I mean don't buy their windows. I told the salesman exactly what I wanted. That is not what I got. I had 2 people at the meeting with me who heard me tell him what I wanted. Wanted: being outside windows and beige box around, solar windows; white trim on the inside. Well, what I got was the white on the inside, white on the outside and beige...

Window quality is on par for the money. However, the installation and service was a nightmare. They made a mess of the stucco surrounding the windows, would promise to come out and fix the issues then "forget". The one time they did actually show up to fix the stucco they used the wrong color - not the wrong "shade" but a completely different color. Contacted the owner of Window World who informed me that the job was done and paid for and it was basically up to me to get the stucco guy back out. Contacted the stucco guy directly. He keeps scheduling and canceling. He's not even a real stucco guy - just does it on the side. He's the husband of one of the Window World employees. I've been dealing with this for a year now. I strongly recommend finding a different company for your windows!
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
Customers had purchased (10) windows and (1) patio door. During window installation, (1) window had some stucco damage along the side between the window and the patio door. As Window World does not do stucco work, we contacted a stucco Contractor who we had used in the past for the repair work (this person is not related to, or married to, any employee of Window World). The stucco Contractor went out in mid-March to get the needed color match, and then returned a week or so later to do the repair (late March). Window World was not aware of any cancellations for the stucco repair (although, weather at that time of year could be a considerable factor for delaying stucco work). The Homeowner was present at time of stucco repair. The Contractor told her the color was a little lighter than the existing stucco, but that it should “darken up” as it dries, and that if it did not, to give him a call and he could come adjust it (as it is considerably easier to add color, than to “lighten” the color after the fact). The Homeowner approved of the repair, but did want her husband to take a look at it. The Contractor reported that he left (2) follow-up messages, with his contact information, with the Homeowners about the color, but did not hear back from the Homeowner within the following 2 weeks. He considered the job complete and billed us for the repair on April 15th.
On March 29th, the Owner of Window World, Chris, went out to assess the area around the window where the stucco repair had been done. The Homeowners made no mention of any problems with the stucco repair work or the color at that time, although they did mention that they thought the “White” caulk used on the exterior around our windows and patio door (which were white in color) looked stark against their stucco color. Chris gave them the option of picking a different caulk color, which they decided to try. Chris and our Service Tech went back out on April 4th, to install a new main frame (which had a blemish), caulk around the stucco repair and peel off all the exterior white caulk and re-caulk ALL product in the color of their choosing, which was “Maple”. Homeowner was considerably happier with the change in the caulk color and seemed pleased that Chris, the Owner, had personally taken care of their issues. On April 11th, our Service Tech went out to re-engage a sash that was out of balance, and do one more “look-over” on the caulk. Again, no mention was made of the stucco repair/color. We considered all services to be complete and billed the Homeowners at the end of April. Homeowners’ paid their final balance on June 6th.
6 months later, on September 21st, Homeowner contacted Window World about tinting the stucco darker. Again, as Window World does not do stucco repair, we relayed the stucco Contractor’s information to the Homeowner (which the Contractor had previously left with him), to correct the situation. As all records indicated that the repair work was completed to the Homeowner’s satisfaction and the Contractor has since been paid, we too, have little recourse with the stucco Contractor other than to refrain from using him in the future.

sorry I ever heard of them
Window World is the lowest unethical company I have ever dealt with in 40 years of home ownership. I agreed to purchase seven windows to be installed. After waiting more than a month past the installation date, they finally arrived. Five of the 7 windows did not fit and had to be jerry-rigged or reordered. The salesman who measured the window openings obviously didn’t know what he was doing. The install team damaged my home in several areas and have refused to be accountable for it. We are so sorry that we EVER heard of the company Window World…as I said RUN!
i had the same experience windows measured incorrectly and forced to fit damaging original framing of window and wrong doors installed and they refuse to correct problem and send out mike trout to try and talk his way out of it . did not work still very dis satisfied and will spread the word about window world and would even join any class action law suits against them very ruthless company! get you windows else where?

false information
we were given wrong information on our two living room windows. We were told that it would cut out some of the noise, we shpuld have kept the same old windows because the noise is the same it has not inproved any. Here we are out of over a 1, 000 a nd some. Do not hire window world because they are we are very unhappy with there service and misinformed.
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
Manager offered me a solution either wait a month on windows or purchase else where.
My only satisfaction would be to have them come take there windows back and refund ALL MY MONEY !
I ordered 13 windows for my new home thinking that window world would be a stand behind sales and service, just the opposite, I ordered windows back in October of 2011 the windows are NOT measured correctly, 2 windows came in the wrong size, I was told that it would be 2 weeks before replacement windows would be in, a week ago I was told it would be another 2 weeks, then today [protected]
I was told by store manager in Corpus Christi, Tx that windows had never been reordered and that it would be another month, this has been the worst experince I have ever had ordering anything.

Larry, the salesman came to my house and gave me an estimate for 8 windows. this is what it reads: window with outside wrap with low-e, no grids. $339.($2712) qualifies for $84. tax credit, haul off for house $75. I agreed, contract drawn up. series 4000 DH All-welded white_ $205 $1640. So, not know 'their' terminology, i thought that he was writing this up...

Replaced basement windows. Old windows leaked when window well partially filled with water. New windows leak worse. I am now learning that I should have ordered fixed windows, instead of sliders. Installer were also complaining about how the windows were measured. They had to "make" the installation work. Very disappointed.

repairs still need to be done
Window World claims that they are fully warranted for all problems..My first problem was that the largest window in my house was messed up...Screens did not fit also they were scratched ..Never did get that resolved..
Since having windows done I had more work done on the house to make it more energy efficient...my electric bill never did go down. About a week or so ago I had the Energy Efficiency Management come and do an energy eficiency evaluation to see where my problems are still coming from, they do a very extensive test and measure air flow throughout your house, basement, attic and every vent and window in your house...
Needless to say my house is very leaky. The man that conducted the test told me that NONE of my new "Window World" windows had been caulked at top or bottom on the outside.. I made complaint to them about this and I am not getting the service I had truly expected form such a well known company...my next step is to email the CEO of the company, Maybe that will get thing moving a little faster...

installers treated like dirt!!!
First off let me explain to you the "Window World" pay scale. They want the subcontractor to remove and install a window for $25.00. Now in that $25.00 we have to pay for caulk and everything that might come into play during the installation. But the catch is we have to buy all the products from Window World. If you are caught buying and using any other products that is grounds for termination. Now also in that 25.00 we have to pay for fuel to get to these jobs that are sometimes 30 to 40 miles away, one way. Also we have to pay for liability insurance, workers comp, and vehicle insurance. Now if you have a helper that makes 10.00 to 12.00 add that in. Stay with me now. A job of 15 windows pays 375.00. If it takes 8 hours, usually longer because of salesman mismeasures and told to make them work, that's 96.00 for a helper, around 30.00 for fuel, and around 30.00 for materials ( caulk, trim, etc.). We are at $166.00.that leaves $209.00 for the installer and out of that we must pay for expenses including wear and tear on a vehicle and tools, insurances and any other thing that comes into play during the install. What I'm trying to say is that when I started with WW they promised me the world and great pay. Needless to say it didn't go that way. What they attract is bottom of the barrel, incompetent installers that rush to get the job done because they get paid on volume not quality. I can honestly say that all jobs that I did were done with care and treated like it was my house, which didn't pay off in the long run. You can not possibly do a quality job and make money with this company. I know that some of you are saying I am just a disgruntled employee looking to give WW a bad rap. You're right! I am just telling the gods honest truth. Now let me get into the windows itself, JUNK! I was actually embarrassed to install these windows. Poor quality control, non fitting screens that just fell out, and windows that were drafty and cold. More than half the time the windows were mismeasures and told to " make them work". This company preys on uneducated consumers and sweet talks their way through their sales pitch, which was the big joke for the salespeople. You can take my opinion and disregard it if you want but I am just telling you that they sell an inferior product and have people installing that have no business having a power tool in their hands. Do your homework and research products before you buy it. Lastly, type in Google search area " Window World complaints", and spend the next couple of days absorbing all of the negative reviews and poor installation complaints. Enjoy!

Window world came by June 4th, 2012 and gave us a good price.perhaps we should Havel been suspicious. They promised our windows would be installed in four to six weeks. When August 1st came we called. They said "oh, your windows are here but we lost your phone number." we had given them both of our cell numbers and our home phone, so not true. They said the.y would come on Wednesday, called and canceled, okay Thursday, called and cancelled. Set an appointment for Saturday between 11-1. Showed up at 2:20, no phone call. Installed the windows, putting a piece of wood between the brick and window, no insulation, no caulk, did the entire thing from inside so no sealing from the outside. Put some cheap looking trim over the gaps and did a sloppy job of caulking. Spend some more money and hire someone reputable who does good w, ork!
As far as your complaint, Dont work for WW, find a contractor to pay you what your worth. As far as WW wanting you to use their products, do you blame them? For example, you buy Kmart brand caulk for .22 cents a tube that washes away in the first rain, WW is resposible. I know, Kmart doesnt make caulk, I think you get the point.
At the Window World in Pittsburgh, PA not only charges the contractors for the materials, they also charge the customer. In other words, they are getting paid twice for the material...from the customer and the contractors.
slums who dont give a #
ok here is the deal window world in baton rouge is the worst one my husband works there and they make him purchase the chalk and trim and insurence and they dont care for anyone but them selves most of them do drugs and even the big boss does drugs i know he baught it from another guy in fornt of me his name is robert smyth do not but from them stand up for the little people me and my hasband did not have money for christmas last year and the boss did not care he was in hawii for vacation with his family so everyone stand up for the small people being screwed by the big croporate ###ers
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
I agree with you. i worked for the company for a year in florida but its owned by the one in baton rouge. robert smythe is a snake and so is james jenkins. they talk the talk. they care about no one and pay their installers crap thats why some installers do what they are paid for.
terrible service
Our landlord decided that it was time to replace the old windows in the two units in our building. He was told it would be three day operation. They would start inside the first floor (our apartment) on the first day, move upstairs the second, and finish the outside on the third day. The first day they show up the start on the second floor, we said 'okay no big deal' we'll just put our curtains and furniture back after they finish inside on the second day. The second day comes and they did not finish inside. They had measured one window wrong and just put up a piece of plywood to cover up the empty window (which was street side.) That night we were told that they would be back the next day and finish the inside. Well today's the third day and there are on ly two guys working and they're doing the outside. NOT INSIDE! so for three days now our apartment has been exposed to anybody walking by, with a piece of plywood for one window (by the way it's the window next to the front door of the apartment), our furniture is huddled in the center of the room, there are bits and pieces of the old windows all over the property and their tools are in various spots of our apartment.
This company is shoddy at best, I have no idea how cheap they are but clearly the suck! I guess we should have figured this when one of their guys cut so bad on a table saw that it was hanging by a tendon. Clearly they use seasoned veteran carpenters. If you are looking to replace your windows DO NOt use Windo World of Boston! DO NOT! No matter how much money you want to save, unless you enjoy not being able to use your home for more than you're told. Window World you blow!
Bait and Switch from WW of Boston. Jacked the cost of exterior trim from their original written estimate by $6300 in addition to the $3420 they were already charging. the explanation was we had a problem with a leak the other was so its an additional $350 or $450 for the exterior nosing/sill ( pre made and sold at HomeDepot just needs to be cut) salesman was nice but it was out of his hands w the mgr and co owner. non brandname mid grade windows anyway beware of the WW scam where they dont honor their written estimate for a 23k to 35k job Shameful
windows price quote fake
They came gave written price, i felt something was wrong with how the saleman was talking, i called Gary the owner, he came out, to see where/how many windows we needed, he said paperwork was wrong, we were building new part, 800 more ft on house with 12 windows in sunroom only, a total of 17 windows, he said he was owner, would call me back/took all papers with him, i never heard from him at all, even after i called him 4 to 4 times.Window World delayed me with my windows, he is a very dishonest person.Glad i didn't buy from them, another company was A great choice, I was not cheated.
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
Don't buy your replacement windows from window world! "Home of the $189 window installed" is a bunch of crap! They quoted me $329 per window installed any size? Then they tried to charge me $150 "green disposal fee", here in SC we can take our old windows to the dump for free to dispose of. Then they tried to charge me a cost for the "mullions" between the 2 separate glass? Extra Charge?
Again, don't do business with Window World of Greenville, SC. Buyer Beware!
james
I just got them to measure one window 23"x60". The ad I saw on tv today is advertising windows for $189. My contract lists prices starting at $200, then they ad $30 for doing trim, $75 for removing the old window, which is vinyl, $30 for capping, then the biggest insult is $100 administrative setup fee. What da blank is that? Unfortunately I live in a very rural area and can't find another window company. If I were younger I would go to Lowes or Home depot and install the window myself.

windows
This is the the most unethical company I have ever worked with in forty years of home ownership!
From day one it was problem after probem...starting with the salesman not knowing how to corrrectly measure the window openings. Consequently, when the windows arrived five weeks late, NONE of them fit properly. The install team just tried to jerry-rig them to fit but most had to be reordered.
Due to this problem the team was in and out of our house several times and caused many thousands of dollars of damage to our home.
Just in case you're wondering...NO, Window World is not accepting any responsibility for the damages and is now not returning calls or emails.
DON'T EVEN consider this company for your window needs.
RUN!

Totally displeased with the installation of our custom made window for the foyer above the main front door. Keep in mind this is the second attempt at an installation whereas the first attempt consisted of wrong measurements and window shape being ordered. Our home required an half oval top to the window, but received a half circle instead. So installation crew removed old window first before realizing the shape of the new window did not match the opening they were trying to replace...let me rephrase that...the half circle window did fit into the space, but the technicians had to use some sort of putty/filler material to seal the major spaces/cracks between the window edges and the window frame. I was told i was going to be contacted by the office and kept alerted as to the status of the second window on order...no contact for two weeks until I called to inquire. Second attempt came in with another custom made oval top shaped window and this was "almost" totally correct; however, Window World's oval shape is a bit different than our house's window opening requirement so once again the technicians did the best they could with what they had to work with. Additionally, the framework on the outside of the window was supposed to be covered and sealed but the installation crew just covered/sealed the bottom and straight sides, but not the top of the oval shape...it looks half-### both inside and outside when viewing...if you want pictures just email me at michaelmorris77@comcast.net...I will never use these guys again or recommend them to anyone...in summary...salesman talk a good game to get you hooked...but they need to get more experienced technicians that can actually measure a window properly...Good Evening!

no sales follow up
I had purchased my windows from Window World a few years ago, and and some problems, but were soon rectified, so when it came to buying doors for my house I called them. They sold the exact same doors and storm doors at Lowe's! But because of the installation and service, I contracted with Window World at a much higher price. ( Lowe's installers had a bad rep ). Well after the order was taken, and half the money paid, it took 3 months to receive them and get them installed. That is with the exception of the front storm door. It came a week later. After it was installed, the installer said another pump needed to be added and he would order it. So after a few days, I did a follow up, and was informed it was not ordered, but it would be ordered and given a priority. I called shorty after that and was told it was on its way and would be installed when it was received. That was 3 weeks ago, and I have not heard a word from them. There customer service sux ! I haven't heard from the sales guy since he wrote the contract. Not even a follow up, you know, like are you satisfied? or are there any other products such as siding or roofing you need? I have a hard time understanding how companies like this can stay in business and sponsor a race team, and Have Kathy Ireland as a rep. I'll get my new roof and siding from a local small company that needs the business !
I spoke up about management stealing sales (Jeff Williams) he fired me !This was a commission only job! Now they wont pay me what they owe me.Nice Christmas gift Window World really cares!
I worked for window World, I have three kids and a disabled wife. This is a commission only job! THE management steals the lower level salesman customers and gives them to the higher level salesman.I spoke up and they fired me a week before Thanksgiving !
they should be shut down and removed from good house keeping seal of approval and bbb too

bad windows bad service
One window howls from the wind. Another window is foggy between the panes of glass. Seals are broke. Windows are just plain drafty. The company never returns phone calls. It also took 5 months to get windows installed.

I had a great experience and received great service. Seems like most people who have used them also recommend them. You have to exercise your warranty by calling them. It is a true warranty and if you don't ask for help you will not get it.
I had to call them the week that they were to call me to schedule an appointment. They arrived an hour late. Had to paint every trim board because they damaged them after cutting out the old windows and the cap we got did not cover it up. They forgot to give us the measurement sheet of the windows, you need that to get the rebate, I had to call them to get that faxed to me. No follow-up phone call or a visit the day after from the salesperson. They got you when you sign that dotted line and after that they do not care.
Window World has one of the best Lifetime Warranties in the industry. Please contact your store directly to resolve any issues which many are covered in the warranty. Also, all complaints can be reported to the store directly at http://www.windowworldsocolorado.com/complaints/.
response to amazed one month later
Wow Amazed! It has now been a full month and I still have at least 7 of 13 windows that leak water into my home. From your post on this website(which I find interesting that you monitor since your installation and service is supposed to be so good, I can tell that you wrote your blog at 11:39PM, Friday 12/17/10. This was after you came to my home with your "installer" and inspected the shoddy work and agreed to come back to try to fix the hanging capping, lack of insulation, caulking problems, and so on. However, it was before I sprayed the exterior windows with water only to find that at least 7 of 13 leak! Nonetheless, I will answer your questions and respond to your comments that you posted. Here goes:
Q: Why would you choose to go to war with your contractor BEFORE they have actually completed the job, or BEFORE you have exchanged a single word with them?
A: Because your subcontractor capped the windows and finished the trim inside, and left the job...meaning he was done. When I came home on the evening of 12/15 at 7:30 PM to find the exterior capping literally hanging off, not nailed to anything (affixed with caulk), the cold wind blowing into my home (no insulation), and zero sills left, this was too much to bear! A sloppy job like that is nearly criminal in my opinion. You literally caused damage!
Q: Why would you threaten and slander them BEFORE extending to them the simple courtesy of a phone call, or request a meeting or explanation of a process that may be raising some questions in your mind?
A: No threats. I did everything I said I was going to do. I filed a BBB complaint (now two), filed with the State Dept. of Consumer Protection, and contacted an attorney. Not threats...promises. And, BTW, I did call when I got home on 12/15, three times to be exact because I was so shocked! I did not slander anyone...everything I have posted has been absolutely true, and now one month later documented by building professionals (I have letters to prove it). Your accusing me of slander is by very nature "slander"! And, "raising some questions in your mind"? You are raising more than that! try the hair on my back!
Q: Why would you allow someone to continue to work on your house and not say a word, if you have any doubts or concerns?
A: Great question! I told your contractors to STOP when they started using a saws-all to remove the existing new construction windows. I asked why they were doing that when I was told that I was paying extra ($975) to have the siding around the windows removed or peeled back to access the window. My concerns were responded to with a laugh and a response of "that's not how we do it". I have witnesses to this! You, on the other hand, were not there!
Q: And, if you don’t like what you are seeing, why would you not simply ask if there might be some possible alternatives?
A: you are supposed to be the WINDOW PROFESSIONALS! You are supposed to be trained and certified (though now I have found out from your national office not for new installation windows!) And, if you turn over your own contract, it says "Please no critiquing at this time" and "We get nervous when a customer constantly hovers over our shoulder". Hmmmm...wonder why?
Statement:
Please follow basic civil and decent rules of engagement so that both sides of the story can be heard. Calling the local franchise in the middle of the night and then slamming them before they have a chance to respond doesn't count.
Response: Again...WOW! Basic civil and decent rules of engagement? Wasn't it you and your own installer who came to my home on 1/16/10 at 8AM, unannounced and who began to get in my face on my front lawn? Wasn't it your installer who threatened to "Rip those f***ing windows right out of the house!"? Wasn't it your installer who said he would "Take a f***ing garden hose to the windows and prove they don't leak!" (I wish he did...he would have seen that they do indeed leak! A lot!) And finally, I didn't call in the middle of the night. I called at 7:30 PM, three times, and asked that you please call me back! However you did not...you showed up and got in my face so much that my son had 911 dialed up ready to press "send"! Civil and decent indeed! What planet are you from?

Response: Don't your read the rest of the posts on this website? What a joke your last statement is! "Excellent service and customer satisfaction"...Is that why I haven't heard from you since your last voicemail on 1/7/11 stating that you were working on a solution and you would call me back on 1/10/11 but I still haven't heard from you!?! :upset
condensation on the inside glass
We bought 13 windows that were the 4000 Series with Low E & Argon from Window World in Davenport IA on November 2008. We have had nothing but problems since. We spent $4735.94 on windows that were to save us money, not cost us more. Since day one we have had issues with condensation on the inside glass which has caused mold and the paint to peel away from...

I'm having issues with the Toledo office and our windows. I wish I would have seen this complaint thread before we suggested Window World to our landlord and had him replace 4 of our windows upstairs this past fall. We live in a 111 year old farmhouse. It's rental property, but the house is not a falling down dump like some rentals seem to be. It wasn't a cheap home when it was originally built. We're out in the country in the middle of a 90 acre corn field and the winter winds here can be brutal. One of the windows (the larger of the 4, and the one that cost the most because by code it had to be tempered glass ~ which the landlord had to pay $65 extra for) leaks quite badly. (All 4 windows leak, but the larger of the 4 is worse than the others.) ~ The top of the window doesn't latch and drops about 1/2 an inch when you lower and latch the bottom half of the window. There are air leaks between the two windows up near the lock mechanism and air leaks in the framework around the caps on the sides and at the tops. One of the smaller windows has a visual flaw that indicates that the window is either defective or not installed properly. (It's crooked, see pic below. If you look closely at the white horizontal line across the top, you can see that the right side is higher than the left.) ~ I've called the installers out twice since the initial install to diagnose the problems. (I can't remember the guys name, but he's not hard to see coming. He drives the old ABC Seamless Siding truck and he walks with a limp due to having bad knees.) ~ All he's been able to do for us is make one excuse right after another. "That's typical for all windows", "it probably just needs caulk" (He did squirt some caulk in the larger window once where they claimed they detected a pin hole ~ but that didn't do any good) and my all time favorite "Well, since your landlord didn't pay extra money to have the aluminum capping redone on the outside, of course they're going to leak." ~ Hmmm.. That's funny! We had two other windows installed by a private contractor in another room upstairs about a year and a half ago. He didn't replace the capping and those windows are fine. While I'm on the subject of those windows (the ones the private contractor installed) it wouldn't hurt to add here that our Window World installer asked me why we weren't having that rooms windows replaced. I explained to him that they were just done a year ago. He asked me who did them, to which I replied "I'm not sure. My landlord hired him and I don't know who he was." He then asked me if he could take a look at them. I said "sure, go ahead." ~ He pulled the curtains back, took one look at them and said "Wow, I hope your landlord didn't pay too much money for these. They're junk and I'm not just saying that because I work for Window World. You'll get 5 good years out of these if you're lucky" ~ WTF?! They're a hell of a lot better than the POS windows he installed. Another thing I noticed is that Window World did not use/stuff fiberglass insulation strips in between the window frame and the window itself before they put the woodwork strips back around the window. When I asked them why, they told me that their windows have a foam rubber pad on them that keeps them from having to go to such measures. When they installed the larger of the 4 windows, it appeared to be such a tight fit (maybe because it was measured incorrectly?) that the foam rubber pad caught the wood, and curled and rolled up as it was being put into the hole. Our upstairs is so cold that when you get half way up the steps, it feels like there's a window open somewhere. What a joke this company is. We're expecting some pretty nasty winter weather in the next few days with temps in the teens, snow, and high winds. Our kids are going to have to sleep downstairs on the couch to keep from freezing to death in their own bedrooms. I'm going to call Window World yet again this morning and demand to speak to someone in charge to state my complaints. If need be, they can either come out here and see for themselves what kind of crap they peddled off on us, or they can send another installer out here to give me a second opinion. Not that I expect to get restitution. One way or another, I want the problem fixed! Pretty bad when you have to consider hanging plastic over windows that are only 2 months old to keep my heat bills from skyrocketing!
UPDATE: The Window World regional manager (Bill McConnell) came out this afternoon and confirmed that there were some unacceptable air leaks in our windows. He's making us an appointment with a different crewman to come out in the next couple of days to run some silicone sealant behind the wood trim and stuff some extra insulation between all 4 windows and their frameworks. He said that if that doesn't take care of the problem, then he'll order for the windows to be removed, remeasured, and replaced if need be. I'm hoping that we wont have to go to that extreme, but I'm loving the fact that he's willing to do whatever he has to do to get the problem fixed. He takes care of the whole Toledo, Detroit, Findlay, Pittsburg, Steubenville, and Youngstown areas. I strongly encourage anyone else in these areas that may be having problems with their windows, to give him a call. The cell phone # listed on the business card that he gave me is as follows. [protected] ~ He seems like a fair and honest guy. He did mention that he will be calling a meeting with the installers that put our windows in to talk to them about the mistakes they made and to let them know that the excuses they're giving his customers were not acceptable by his standards.
A simple adjustment (made by Bill this afternoon) fixed some of my issues and he said in regards to the spacing issue seen in my photo above that it is normal for the windows to "sag" and be a little uneven here and there to allow/compensate for imperfections in the framing, or the hole in the wall that the window sits in. (Normal settling over time of any home will sometimes cause uneven squaring of the opening.) ~ He made note and checked that all the locking mechanisms were lining up and working properly and assured me that as long as they were and as long as there aren't any air leaks between the two windows where the two pieces of weather stripping meet, then it's nothing to be concerned about. With all due respect, that doesn't seem to be a factor for us. *thumbs up* .. An explanation from the regional manager as opposed to an excuse like "Well, that's typical" from the installer makes me feel a lot better about the flaw and as long as it doesn't create a problem later on down the road, I'm happy with that. Even if it does, I've been assured that the windows are covered under a lifetime warranty and in the event I run into a problem, all I have to do is give Bill (or whomever may be filling his shoes) a call. He was very helpful today. I am anxious to see what kind of magic his other crewman (Terry, I guess is his name?) can work with the air leaks we currently have on our hands. I have a notion that it can't possibly be any worse than it is and that anything he can do for us will offer up some definite improvement. I hope this post has proven helpful and given those of you who may have lost hope of getting your troubles resolved, if nothing else, a glimpse of the light at the end of the tunnel. Best wishes and good luck.. Be well.
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
won't return call
have been trying to contact window world of cheetowaga, NY (buffalo area) for 3 weeks to GIVE THEM MONEY for three separate jobs and can not get a call back! it is apparent that they are totally inept and if you are expecting any form of communication with a company you deal with, they are certainly not the right choice.
going to try a different company today and see if i get somewhere but my dealing with buffalo area companies has been less then stellar. think too many hot wings at night and can't move in the A.M

your research was dead on correct window world products and services are crap at best! i know i fell into there pit fall and switch and bait schemes and it cost me many of my personal hours and money and still not right
I happen to stumble across this complaint board. I personally contact both Thompson creek and window world and absolute home solutions. My experience over all was pleasant with all companies but when it came to the quality and permanent and variety of windows available, absolute home solutions was at the top of the list. The price is always considered but not the deciding factor when I make a purchase. Quality performance, installation and reputation of the company. Absolute home solutions has worked for a couple of my neighbors and they had nothing but fantastic things to say. One of my neighbors had a product that none of the other companies offered and their other comparable windows outperformed theirs as well. I have several properties and have used one of the other companies mentioned, which I will not point fingers, but their windows are not as good as the ones I received. I'm extremely happy with my windows installed with Absolute Home Solutions and their no pressure approach is comforting. I think absolute home solutions is in silver spring and virginia Kudos to them!
My sincere apologies to Mr. Rocha if my response was offensive to him. I was only responding to his comments sent to us over this past weekend. (please see below the two weekend emails)
When you believe in an organization as much as I believe in Window World...you defend it! I really love this company as it has done so many wonderful things in communities all across the Unitied States. Particularly with our work with ST. Judes.
Again, if my passion offended Mr. Rocha please accept my apology as that was not the intent. I just felt it was important to respond to his comments as they were presented.

Emails that were sent over the weekend:
Thank you, , I am no longer interested. I did some complaint and some BBB searching on your company, , I would not be comfortable doing business with your company based on research. Please do not contact me further. I signed my contract today with Thompson Creek.
