Enterprise Rent-a-Car, Santa Barbara Airport (SBA)
I Googled "Enterprise Scam" after my recent incident with them and was astonished to see the number of complaint against them for insurance claims on damaged cars. they have been doing this for years and ending up getting me as well. I suggest you use another company that has practices honesty and integrity if you plan to rent. Make sure you thoroughly inspect the car, take the clipboard from the sales agent and write down every little scratch, dent, ect yourself if you do not buy the daily insurance. Maybe even video or take pictures if you have a smartphone with good enough quality. Here's what happened to me, feel free to contact me if you have gone through something similar.
I did not get the insurance because I only had the car for one weekend. I drove home for the holidays and parked it at my parents and then drove back. They gave me a car with scratches and dents in it. The salesman walked around the car once, didn't stop or ask me to look at it. It probably took him about 8 seconds to inspect the car. He said that he noted the dents and scratches. So I signed believing him. I took the car home and my girlfriend and I loaded it. When she opened the rear door on the drivers side she noticed it was damaged. We didn't take pictures or call them because I thought it wasn't an issue. When I returned it they brought the manager out. She said it was impossible that the dent was not noted and that they inspect the car over 5 times before renting it out. She said the car would never be rented out in that condition, which wasn't surprising to me because that's what I thought when they gave it to me. But It was only $23 a day so I figured that's what you get for that price. She was very rude to me, accused me of lying, and said they would give me a call. They never called so I thought they found a record of the cars damage report with the dent on it. Then they sent a letter to an old address of mine even though they had my updated address since I booked the car online. It was also weird for some reason the car wasn't in there system and the rental was closed out a day prior to me returning it. They obviously had the information in their system messed up and blamed it on me. I rented from Hertz the next weekend and was worried about the similar situation happening to me. So I asked the salesman to look at the car and he said it is fine and I didn't have to worry. I told him why I was worried and he said "we are not enterprise, " and gave me this look. I am very frustrated and having my lawyer send them a letter. If they want to pursue it I plan on starting a class action suit against them. Is there anyone else who is in the same situation?

Same thing happen to me, just NOW!
Enterprise definately takes advantage on peopel's trust!
Almost this exact same thing is happening to me now. Rented a car, Informed agent of dent he wrote something down. Then he had my wife sign (i should of noticed that was odd my bad) . An hour after we returned the car with no problem we are then informed there a new dent . The same one I noted. I got a bill for 374 so I sent an email asking why . There respond with a bill of 500 . The diffrence is they added the estimate of 322 and the actual repair of 125 (dent pro) . I asked them about this . I'm told the car went to the body shop and then dent pro came out so I must pay for both. This means that the car was supposedly taken to the body shop who repainted the dented door then the dent was removed, but Can I see the body shop bill ... nope . Double chargeing for the same dent that was there before I rented .Thats news worthy . People need to know.

"When you rent from this company you are always given a copy of any damage at time of pickup. Obviously it couldn't have been the same dent then..."
So, there isn't even the remotest chance of a scam here? No chance at all that the dent WAS reported and the rental company MIGHT be trying to make some extra cash by claiming the reported dent is a new dent? No chance at all that they added the estimate and the actual cost to make a new, higher total? It's highly suspicious that they will not provide the OP with a copy of the bill.
"The copy of the damage review that is provided at time of rental that the OP kept would answer this."
Unless they are trying to scam the renter. Honestly, Descartes, you seem always to assume that everyone is honest and upstanding. While that is a good default position most of the time, it really can leave you open to be swindled.
Thank you for bringing this to our attention. We would like to look into this further. Please email Care[at]Enterprise.com with your full name, the exact rental location and any other details.

I have been looking for articles on fighting back rental car companies (Enterprise Car Rental in peculiar) --- where an initial walk around was not done, yet come to find out, there a small dent on the back fender, that could barely be seen, due to the paint job. I never signed the report due to the inaccuracy, but got slapped with an $871 bill. I did not take the insurance that was offered through Enterprise. And my personal insurance does not cover this. The customer service rep even admitted to not doing a walk around with me about this vehicle. To all customer, be VERY careful - and do a full walk around pointing out all the little scratch and dents that the vehicle may have. I wish I could fight this, but I feel helpless.
On 5/16/2014 we rented a minivan with Enterprise at the Honolulu airport (3255 AOLELE ST) location for our wedding weekend. Upon initial inspection and walk around of the Chrysler minivan, we were told by the Enterprise staff not to worry about anything “smaller than a golf ball”. That being said, we proceeded to checkout and be on our way.
Three days later when we returned the vehicle, the person that examined the car asked us if we had noticed two small damages (smaller than a golf ball) to the rear and side of the car. One damage they pointed out was a small dent you could barely even notice without standing to the side of the car and looking for it really hard. She actually had to get a second opinion from someone else to determine if there actually was any damage or not. We had never noticed nor caused these damages and throughout our rental period were not involved in any incident or collision. They took note of the damages found and we were taken inside to speak with another rep. The rep performed a background check on the car and indicated that no prior damage was reported on the car, therefore making us responsible. The fact that we were responsible for unknown damage to the car that were smaller than a golf ball contradicted what the Enterprise staff member who pulled up our car told us. We understand the policy of being responsible for any damages during your rental period of the car. Having said that, we question that the car was inflicted with these damages while being rented by us. It is truly unfair to make your customer pay for damages that were not caused by them. Feeling helpless and baffled, we left Hawaii and waited to hear back from Enterprise.
A few weeks later, we received a claim report from the Recovery Unit that assessed the vehicle, which included pictures of the damages as well as ADDITIONAL damages (scratches on the door smaller in size than a golf ball as well), never before seen by us nor mentioned by the person processing our return. The day we returned the car, we took pictures of the minivan and the damages found and have kept them. We should not be responsible for these damages - especially the ones that were not found at return. Now we’re stuck with a bill for $1400 (including $200 fee for "loss of use" and $100 administrative fee). It’s alarming.
We did research, and found that this is not a first time occurrence of something like this happening at THIS particular location at the Honolulu airport and Enterprise in general. It makes us question - is Enterprise just taking advantage of customers on their vacations, weddings, honeymoons, etc.?
See the following reviews for just a few examples of shady practices, both from this particular location and other locations:

During our two week stay in Hawaii we also rented cars from Dollar and Budget and both transactions were truly hassle-free and without incident. In fact, this is our first time renting from Enterprise ever and also happens to be the first negative experience we’ve both faced in our long history of renting cars. We both do a lot of travel for work, and will make certain we never have to rent from Enterprise again, even if it’s a company preferred vendor.
Renter beware; Avoid Enterprise like the plague and go with ANY other car rental company, or you’ll be sorry.
Same thing happened to me today and without my approval debited 500$ from my credit card.
Google "enterprise ding and dent scam" to save yourself the hassle of this office. The rep informed us that there was major damage in the form of a dent and red paint on the vehicle. There was ZERO damage when we returned the van. She blantantly lied because on the pics the red is the reflection from a car seat on their property. This office lied and I have text messages and pics to prove it. So, they kept our deposit and sent us a bill for $275. $475 for thumb size dent that was already on the vehicle when we rented it. The reps are very shady here. Video the car inside and out and video the rep, if you ever have to rent from this location.
I rented an expedition that had major damage on the front bumper of the truck I pointed it out to the rep and she appeared to be notating it into the ipad that she was walking around with. it was daylight out. after we walked around to look at damages, she had me sign the ipad. I never got a copy of the contract with anything regarding the rental I assumed that the insurance company will be handling that since it was an insurance claim replacement vehicle. when I brought the truck back, they were extremely rude to me.. I owed them a balance and I assumed that was what their attitude was about. they took it upon themselves to charge my credit card over $250 without notification. (that was multiple charges accumulated). I had to freeze my card to stop the charges from overdrawing my account. I still owed another $500. I called them to make a $100 payment toward my balance. I was very clear to the lady to not charge more than the $100. I noticed a few days later that not only had she charged me for the $100 payment but she took it upon herself to charge me another $354. I have reached out to corporate 2X. no call back. I feel like they have some type of scam going on where they don't care about the consumer. corporate told me that each individual location is responsible to collect on the billing in any way that they can and he wasn't sure what that locations policy was regarding that. They turned it over to my insurance company my insurance company sent a letter to me notifying me that they are investigating this.
