chicken caesar salad
We used to live in Chicago and were loyal Jewel customers. Whenever traveling back, we usually stop at a local Jewel to pick up snacks, drinks and food for our 9 hour drive back to Nebraska. This weekend, we drove to Chicago to pick up my son from college, a very quick turnaround leaving Nebraska early Sunday morning and heading back early Monday morning. We stopped at his local Jewel near University of Chicago and as usual loved all the variety of produce and products. We were in quite a hurry and among several other things, I bought a chicken Caesar salad for lunch on the road. We were just past Joliet when I opened the salad and began eating. I then found the crouton bag had already been opened, obviously cut with scissors. As well, the lettuce was frozen and no dressing was included. I immediately stopped eating as I was a bit alarmed as to how an opened, and presumably partially consumed, bag of croutons could get into the salad, wondering if anything else had been tampered with. The majority of the lettuce was inedible as it was frozen. It was really disappointing as it was late and we wanted to drive nearly straight through without having to stop for food, but obviously I would need to find food somewhere on the road at this point. I would really appreciate a refund on the salad, which was $5.00. I hope this was just an oversight, and so far I am feeling pretty good, but just can't be ok with eating food that someone else had obviously been into before I bought it. thank you so much.

kosher carrot cupcakes allergen mislabeling
I purchased kosher carrot cupcakes on Sunday, June 16, 2019 from the Evanston Jewel on Howard (2485 West Howard Street). Since I have a severe tree-nut allergy, I always read ingredient labels multiple times thoroughly. I was surprised when the carrot cupcakes didn't list tree nuts on the ingredients label, but was excited to purchase them since I enjoy carrot cake. On Monday, June 17th, 2019, I decided to have a cupcake after dinner. Upon the first bite my tongue began tingling and my throat became itchy. I looked at the cupcake and noticed what appeared to be walnuts. I immediately administered my epi-pen and took Benadryl, which thankfully prevented my reaction from becoming full blown. Had I not taken the medication right away, I would have had a full blown anaphylactic reaction.
Due to the illness and monetary damages that this mislabeling caused me, I would like full reimbursement for my epinephrine medication and for this item to be recalled from shelves until it is properly labeled to prevent others from harm. In addition, due to the severity of this mislabeling, I have filed complaints with the Better Business Bureau, the FDA, and the Evanston Health Department. I am contemplating pursuing legal action if this complaint is not handled appropriately and to my satisfaction.

Hi SubSquirrel-perhaps you should get glasses and not shame someone for posting a valid complaint about a life threatening incident. A label that states that its processed on shared equipment means there could be traces of the ingredient that could cause a reaction. A trace amount is very different than the large chunks of nuts I saw in the posted picture. Jewel is clearly in violation. Please keep your nasty comments to yourself.

We bought 3 packages to be served today, Fathers Day. I've rarely if ever been so disappointed in a product! The UPC is [protected] 9. These are supposedly beef tenderloins that are normally quite tender. However, they were so full of grizzle that none of us were able to finish our piece. I am requesting a refund of $31.47 plus 1.75% sales tax. I still have the remaining (cooked) product if you need me to return it.
So you know, it ruined what should have been a special Fathers Day dinner. I do a lot of my shopping at Jewel and that particular product isn't worth carrying! I would have bought single steaks, but the ones that were available looked rather fatty (NOT marbled.) I should have just gone to another store.

3 weeks ago, I purchased 5 oiko plain yogurts. Took one to work the next day, and it expired almost a month prior. Took them bake and exchanged them for new ones. Went shopping at the same Jewel today, June 15, 19. I picked up a few more yogurts looked at the date and the expiration date was April 20! I did let the manager on duty know, but this is really uncalled for! Also wanted to buy a red onion and everyone of them looked nasty. Asparagus is not stored in water like it should be. Guess I'll start shopping at Mariano's. Not as convenient as Jewel is.
soda on sale
Naper Blvd Jewel Osco. Every time I go there when I go to pick up Sunkist or Crush soda, they have a note, "Must buy 5" (or 6 or 4) etc to get the sale price. Last time when I was there I was so frustrated, I left the store and went to Mariannos across the street where I was able to pick up one bottle and be done. They are doing this so you can instead pick up their Signature brand. Next time, my grocery shopping will be at Mariannos or at Garden Fresh Market.

I just bought some Jewel brand bratwurst. When I opened the package and read the
ingredients I was shocked! Why add " HIGH FRUCTOSE CORN SYRUP" to sausages?
Why contribute to the bad health of Americans? If you are going to sell fresh meats,
it does not need HFCS. I don't want to go on my soapbox and go into a rant but
aren't we sick enough with autoimmune diseases, etc. when poison "read sugar"
in any forms added to our foods? Buying baked goods with sugar is one thing, if people want that. Spices are one thing, bad ingredients are another.

I ordered a cake at Jewel Osco in Aurora Illinois on Galena Blvd. I said I wanted the cake to read Congratulations Marc. When I went to pick up the cake it read Happy Birthday Marco.
This cake was for a retirement party in which I work 30 mins away. The Manager Terry didn't seemed to bothered that this happened, all he said was we are human and we make mistakes.
Will not order from this bakery again.

I ordered 48 chicken bundle a couple days before my kids birthday party, and the day of pick up time they said they didn't have my order. They kept telling us they didn't have it, and the manager kinda brushed off my husband, and said give him whatever. I had proof I ordered online and still nothing.
Then chicken wasn't cooked well and barley grilled! They didn't help us, got pissed off because they didn't have it together. I have only come to jewel for parties, for chicken, cake and regualr everyday shopping. I am so unhappy with the service, the food and the people who were "helping" us. I also have 2 pictures of ordering if needed I will send those as well.

I visit that store frequently and want to purchase more but because the store seldom has enough good shopping carts I only purchase what I can carry. I seldom see other customers with more than a handful of purchases because they're unable to carry them to check-out. I love Jewel because of the food quality, the cleanliness, and employees. If I cannot carry my choices I may have to go to another food store where the food is cheap and the customers wear their PJ's while hollering at their kids and their cell phones.
I spoke to the store manager and she told me that new shopping carts are on order but have not arrived. People in the neighborhood steal the carts. I see them all over the neighborhood. The store must develop a means to keep the carts on store property. Aldi's has a good process; customers do not mind using their quarters to save shopping carts.

Jewels Osco in South Chicago Heights IL, the seafood department never have workers at night time and customers are not getting serviced in a timely manner. There is always one person closing at night time. And almost six workers in the mornings. The white employees talk to the Black employees any kind of way. There is a lot of racism at this particular location. And unprofessional.

I have been buying these for quite sometime at Jewel but now it seems that you are no longer carrying this product and I have to buy it at Walmart. This is not good for your business because if folks have to go elsewhere they end up buy other things normally purchased in your store. Is there a reason why you stop carrying certain items?

I used to go to the same Jewel that I've been going to for the last 40 years here I'm now 51 and I usually stop there every Friday and Monday for their Fried Chicken. This is the Jewel-Osco that is in South Chicago Heights Illinois on Chicago Road and Sauk Trail. Well today I went and bought some fried chicken and I have feathers still on pieces of my chicken. Really disgusting not to mention probably very unsanitary and that goes to show that the people that you're getting this chicken from whether it's your people or not aren't doing a correct job in making sure that the chicken is cleaned properly because I do not want disgusting feathers in my food. I've taken pictures of it I'm saving the two pieces that I found now I really lost my appetite to even eat this food now because I'm so grossed out by it. Now I'm totally expecting you to rectify this issue and I don't mean with just a I'm sorry that happened to you sir. Your store is way too expensive to have stuff like this going on.

I went to a Jewel-Osco today and had the Monopoly pieces that were for free on items I also had items that were a $0.50 coupon. My free items I did not get at all. I ended up paying for everything that I had. Some of my 50 Cent coupons covered everything. So another words the free items that I needed to get I did not get I had to pay for today. I have a receipt and I have what I wrote down that was free items that I paid for. I am really disgusted and I really need some help in this situation. Thank you

I was in your store Mon May 13 at around 3:45 PM. I am disabled and need a Walker to get around. I cannot handle walking for a long time. Once I finished shopping I went to the front lanes to check out. I choose the closest lane near my car. There were 2 people ahead of me, but I asked right away for help so the cashier knew I was disabled. The bagger refused to hy help me put my groceries on the conveyor belt. The cashier told me that I would have to walk to another cashier to get extra help. I told her that I could not walk to another cashier and then back. I asked her to call for help, but she refused. Then I asked for a manager, but she didnt call him either. I was about to go to the lane next to me which was a 15 item or less and ask if they could call for a manager, but an employee walked by and was kind enough to get the manager for me. I explained everything to him. He helped me un load my groceries and bring them to my car. It is very distressing that Jewel does not help people who are disabled. Other grocery stores that I shop at not only help me but they do it with a smile on their face. I now know that I cannot shop at Jewel without bringing a helper with me. This is the worst Jewel ever. I lived in the area my whole life and it has been a disaster the past 5 years.

The whole deli has the worst customer service. They always have attitude and they never help each other out. There will be several people doing things in back and they never assist the one person serving customers.
Hand Baskets
They never have hand baskets. They say customers steal them so they won't replace them. However, they waste money going back and forth with the self checkout. They put them in them room them out and now put them back in.
Employee Occupied Checkout
They only have a few open at a time, even in peak hours. This store is extremely under staffed.
Overall this store is terrible. It is blocks away from my house but I would rather driver to the North Riverside location. It runs much smoother. Any other Jewel I ever go to is just fine. I have often been to North Riverside, Orland Park, and Lemont. All great stores! Stickney, IL needs a complete overhaul!
flowers for mother's day
My husband bought 3 bouquets of flowers and cards from Jewel in Glendale Hts this morning... Mother's Day. I immediately did as instructed, cut stems, poured flower feed into water and put them in the water... all of the flowers are wilted and bent over. They didn't even last the day. Spent $108. Sickens me, this has NEVER happened from the flowers purchased from Mariano's and Target.
They were slimy when opened as well. All dead like they had been sitting there for weeks and frozen and sold... brought home and died immediately.
