employee
I was at Jewel in Darien on Cass and overheard someone at the customer desk talking about a male employees private business. Don't know the males name but was saying he hadn't been paid in two weeks and they he'll still have to wait yet another week to get paid. If I ran a business this way it would get shut down with people walking off he job. That poor young man has worked for weeks and not gotten paid. Unexceptable. It makes me angry and I don't even know him. I'm sure he works for a reason. tO PAY HIS BILLS. Get it together Jewel.
the warm temperature in the munster store. a compliment to munster store employee mary.
8/3017. Jewel Munster, Indiana store. The temperature in the store has been very uncomfortable. One has to stick their head in the frozen food compartments to cool off. The employees also contend that it is TOO HOT! This includes the OSCO employees also...
Once AGAIN the employee interaction with customer is gone, The friendly hello and smile is gone... Even the store manager seems to always have a frown.
You have MANY GOOD employees that seem to have lost their friendliness .
One employee that remains very friendly and helpful is Mary who does the bagging and helps customers with bags.
Please PUT this Munster Jewel store BACK on TRACK! There is a Strack and Van Til store right down the street!

customer service at jewel osco
I regularly shop at Jewel-Osco located at 5343 North Broadway, Chicago, IL 60640. For a time, I have noticed a sharp decline in the store's customer service.
After my experience yesterday, 08/23/2017 at approximately 5:30PM; I have made the decision to discontinue shopping at Jewel.
Yesterday, as usual; I came in for groceries and lined up in the express check out lane. I was called to register 4 as it became available. My arms were full and as I laid my groceries on the counter, the cashier (Isaiah?) proceeded looking at his phone placed on the counter. Isn't it customary to at least start ringing the groceries? (not to mention a greeting?). I said "hello" and he proceeded to ring me up. As I entered my PIN info he continued checking out his phone until the receipt came up, which he then handed to me. I said "thank you" since he had not said a word and he said "no problem". I have experienced poor customer service at this store before but yesterday's experience was a final straw. This young man's poor attitude was unacceptable. I really do not expect all "smiles" and conversation but his simple lack of acknowledgement was just rude. I was taken aback and decided to say something at the store and walked over to the customer service desk. It is very possible that I was not speaking to a manager and should have requested one but the experience there was also mind boggling. I stated my issue and the gentleman said "OK, sorry". Again, perhaps I should have requested a manager but he also could have said, I am not a manager, please let me get you someone. If he was a manager, I am shocked by the response, "OK, sorry". The whole experience has made me believe that this is the culture that is taught and expected at this store.
This store is on my way home from the train; which I find convenient to pick up groceries on my way home several times a week. I will forgo this convenience to shop somewhere that a customers' presence is not perceived as a bother to the staff.
Sincerely,
A. Santiago
employee harassing me on store visits on several occasions
This has been going on for a few weeks at this store a girl I dont know keeps following me around the store everytime I go in dont know her looks like she wants to fight or just plain start something for no reason is this really who you want working at a fine store like this one she must need more work to do rather than bother a customer that has been coming to this store for years minding their own business.
starbucks
Well as I am pulling up to Jewel, I see that the one in has a Starbucks. Sounds delicious, I get to shop around while siping on something very tasty. As I am waiting in line a lady with very short hair is treating me, asking me what I would like to order. I couldn't decide but it looks like her boss is sitting in the lobby area giving me a dirty look. I've never been in this Jewel before and I have no idea who she was. The nice friendly woman is asking me what refresher I would like to try. Her manager, maybe her name is Laura is saying "you can't be holding up the line, can't you order already?" I'm sitting here thinking.. "I am a customer, and you as a manager shouldn't be treating me with the disrespect you are." I kept my mouth shout and ordered quickly so I won't haven't to deal with Laura.. r" but it rubbed me in the wrong way. I am a customer buying your products and you are a manager, you should know that by first hand on what to do and what not to do when greeting a customer. Laura was sitting there with 3 other people taking her sweet time and mocking me because I didn't know what I wanted to drink. I will be back to that Jewel and to speak with the front end manager. I'm buying Starbucks products so don't treat me with disrespect.. there was nobody behind me and it didn't bother anyone! I only came to this Jewel because I heard it's brand new and plus no soda tax lol... I'm sorry but don't treat me like that, I would like to be the treated the same way you do.
manager being noted for rudeness towards other employees
A friend of mine works at Jewel Osco and told me of a manager that has been noted for being rather rude to other employees, and my friend doesn't want to report because they don't want to cause problems. Apparently this manager tends to have an attitude that shows wrong to the employees, my friend said that the managers name is Ken.
(I'm referring to myself n my friends in anonymity ). I feel the need to report this for the employees(friends n others there ) sake, and hopefully corporate has a talk with the manager to resolve future problems.
very rude customer service.
I joined the jewel mymixx app/service. Recently they had a pint of Enlightened Ice Cream for free. I went in and grabbed my pint and a few other things. I put in my phone number to receive the coupons I had saved in my app. Apparently I mistyped or something and my coupons didn't go thru. I looked at my receipt and went to the service desk to make things right. I was repeatedly accused of not putting in my number. I said I did and the women sneered at me and informed me the program was only for certain customers. When she refunded my money she acted like it was coming out of her paycheck. Slapped receipts on the counter etc. I was not upset and tried to make some small talk. She was not having it. If she hates her job/customers so much maybe she should quit. Or maybe the cashiers should ask if they have a number to put in. Between trying to put things on the belt and getting payment out sometimes I don't even have a chance to put in my number. I've been going to this jewel for years and really didn't deserve the attitude. This is the Jewel-Osco located on Laraway Rd in New Lenox. It happened on 7-31-17. I am very disappointed and it left a bad impression on me. Regardless of the coupons I think I will shop elsewhere. I am the customer spending money. But apparently it's not enough. I do think it had something to do with me looking young. If there is such a problem with the mymixx coupons maybe they should discontinue it. Or perhaps train the service desk people better. I am very disappointed.
I am complaining about the store and staff in general
I was treated very disrespectfully over cereal at the checkout line. I have WIC and recently the regular kind of cinnamon toast crunch was put on the list. They however have the old list BUT had the WIC sticker under it in the store. So I grabbed it and I do not have my new list of things I can get. However I got to the checkout and the cashier in a white shirt proceeded to try and tell me I could not get it. How much sugar was in it even called the manager. The manager was pretty rude also. When they checked he isle and saw the sticker they took it OFF! And still telling me I could not get what I had. They gave me attitude about the whole thing and caused a big scene in front of everyone and embarrassed me. I'd greatly appreciate something being done about this. And for them to get a new list so there a no further problems.
store created guacamole
Guacamole that was created by the Jewel-Osco in Glen-Ellyn and purchased on August 2, 2017, had a long piece of metal in it. I purchased it for a gathering with friends. I took some on my plate and while chewing it on the chip I felt something weird. I pulled it out of my mouth and it was a bented up piece of METAL wiring. It was in my mouth and I lucky did not swallow it.
After my social event I returned to the store with the container and piece of metal. Manager did not seem overly concerned. They refunded me the price of the guacamole. Since no one was injured, it seemed not to concern them. They did not have an official form to fill out but just took a piece of printer paper and wrote down my name and number. Very frustrating because this could have ended up with injuries had I swelled that. Picture attached.
customer service
Yesterday I called Jewel to ask for the price of a dozen donuts. I was placed on hold for five minutes. Finally the woman came back on the line and she responded "Jewel how may I help you". They forgot that I was even on the phone and placed my on hold for a second time to find a price. She told me a dozen donuts are $5. When I went into the store they rang me up for $9. The cashier had such attitude when I explained that on the phone the woman had told me it was $5. I have never experienced worst customer service in my entire life. Paying $4 extra isn't a huge deal, but the way I was treated as a customer is ridiculous. I work in the customer service industry and even on bad days you should never give a customer attitude. I will never go back to Jewel again.
customer service
On Thursday I came in to buy cigarettes and the jewel employee refused to scan my temporary license. I didn't have any money accept my jewel gift card so I was depending on that to get cigarettes she said that I didn't need them and she walked away. It was incredibly rude and I want jewel to right that wrong. That's no way to treat a paying customer.
pharmacy
Ok. The first year or so of going exclusively to Jewel-Osco in Woodridge's pharmacy, I thought I must just have bad luck... nothing is ever ready in a timely manner. Pharmacists have held onto medications for multiple days without putting the order in the system (confirmed by my MD that prescription was called in numerous times). In this instance, the only reason they "found" my prescription was by my MD finally making note of the pharmacist's name and me mentioning it a few times. I honestly have gotten consistently bad service here... and despite the convience, considering finally switching pharmacies. No one at this location seems to have a clue what's going on. Drive-thru takes about 40 mins if you get stuck behind ANYONE. I could go on and on... WTF!
Actually, I'm a nurse and deal directly with techs and pharmacists on a daily basis. I definitely could do their job better at this pharmacy. Losing a prescription for two days is absolutey not OK, especially TWICE. And no, my doctor doesn't work for the pharmacy... that wasn't even a question. Thanks for your unnecessary input though.
deli
I live across the street and go to Jewel probably once a day. Lately the girls in the deli obviously don't want to be there and don't hesitate letting us know they aren't happy. They are super slow making us wait for 45 mins when I'm on my lunch hour. Then I simply asked why they haven't had the Buffalo chicken dip that we all love and the deli girl says "WE DIDN'T HAVE TIME TO MAKE THAT". Wow it was 2 pm. Its never been made in over a week. I really hate to feel like I'm putting someone out when its their job. I can go next door to food for less but I like Jewel. I don't have time for the deli or the attitude. The incident has been over a month yesterday 7-18-17 was the smart remark about the dip.
rude and untrained new manager mike 424 division chicago
This is my local jewel I shop at regularly since it's by my condo . I usually buy a few boxes of Large bottled sparkling water and need assistance to my car . The manger PJ would always offer assistance and was very helping . I was disappointed to find out PJ left the store . I was directed to the new manger mike . He was very rude and was talking into his ear piece the whole time and wasn't addressing any concerns for help to my vehicle . Turns out he was a front end manger who oversaw cashiers and some how he became a store co manger you would think he would have more customer care since he was in charge of the front end . I will never return to this store due his rudeness and taking my business down the street to Mariano's . Hopefully jewel will invest some training into that guy before he ruins the store .
discrimination, harassment by security
July 17, 2017, New lenox illinois, Nelson rd, Jewel, Osco. I went to get My mothers medicines and was stopped by security again. They asked if I have something under My shirt I said yes I do, I am travelling and always put My phone and wallet with ID around My neck to prevent losing them. He said I was scaring people. I never said a word, other than absolutely necessary to get My transaction done, and maybe a please and thank you, very scary indeed. I called later and talked to the manager, he said they thought I was armed. So, they send over a boy to harass a fellow they think is armed? Obviously a lie. This store has a terrible record with discrimination, they have bothered me at least four other times for nothing. Harassing, and lying to customers is not suppose to be good business practice or is it the norm now?
deli/bakery party order
We went into our jewel to place an order for a big party. The day of the party, we went to pick up our 1st of two orders and not only was our order not ready, they had no record of us even placing an order! They've pulled this nonsense two other times and blamed it on us placing the order online. To avoid this hassle we went in and placed two different orders for separate pick up times. Our first order was for a sheet cake for my daughter and an cheese/sausage appetizer tray. We go to pick up and all the employees behind the deli/bakery counter, not only take too long to even acknowledge us as a customer, but don't have any food ready! This is a huge issue, ontop of ruining my mood for the day, I had 100 people coming to my house in two hours from my pickup and I had to ask to speak to a manager who not only just stood there and made no comment or apology, wanted to know the name of the person I placed the order with! I placed orders at 6 other places-I don't know the names of the employees! I want my order at it's pickup time and I want to be greeted when I arrive and given some customer service. This is the 3rd time I have had a problem with picking up an order from this location! This is unacceptable and this is the worst store/employees/managers I've ever dealt with for any shopping experience. Incompetent and ignorant to customers. I work here for my money and customer service is the main part of my job and my job retention. I don't know how this location runs. It's truly a disgrace to Jewel-Osco and I'm so sick of this treatment. I will no longer be shopping at this store. It's a shame I live two blocks away and I can't even use this location because of the ignorance of the employees. Not only that, I think I deserve an apology for the treatment I receive at this location, not only for their most recent mistakes but for how I'm treated every time I walk into this store. This needs to be addressed. This location is a complete disaster!
osco higher charge for prescriptions
I have been coming to jewel/osco for 30 yrs. Just got prescriptions filled cost me DOUBLE WHAT I USUALLY PAY. Since this new system you put in...they couldn't find my husband's insurance...IT'S BEEN IN YOUR OLD SYSTEM 30 YEARS. Maybe you should get whoever screwed it up to fix it!..this is NOT good customer service! Why did you change something that I'm sure cost quite a bit of money when what you had wasn't broke...maybe your management people need to be changed also..they must cost way too much for what decisions they make...wake up...the consumers are what pay your salaries! I am a senior citizen on fixed income. My husband and I are retired government workers. We have GEHA which is government employees ins. Get smart...
mild guacamole
First, I don't want to label this as a "complaint." I love shopping at my neighborhood Jewel-Osco on Randall Rd in Algonquin. I always receive courteous and kind service.
However, I have mentioned to management several times that the homemade "mild" guacamole is very spicy. At one point I was allowed to speak with the person in produce that makes the batches of guacamole. He disclosed that there were a number of jalapenos in the recipe including their seeds. The seeds are the part of the jalapeno that gives it a spicy flavor. While the jalapeno only ranges midway on the Scoville Scale and nowhere near a Dragon's Breathe pepper, it can still pack quite a punch.
I LOVE the homemade guacamole but I am unable to enjoy it completely due to the intense heat of the jalapenos in the recipe. I understand that Jewel-Osco also makes a "spicy" version of the guacamole. I can't even imagine how intense the heat is in that. I would like to suggest that Jewel-Osco offer a third alternative. The "mild" guacamole that is being sold should be labeled "medium" and a new recipe be developed that cuts the heat intensity of the medium in half and label that "mild."
I have often taken the Jewel-Osco homemade guacamole to get togethers and parties and received both compliments and complaints. Those who are unable to tolerate spicy foods complained it was too spicy. Those who love hot and spicy recpies absolutely love it.
The guacamole is fresh, made very well and flavorful. I'm just ask that you make a version I can eat.
Thanks
