unethical tactics
I've been a Macy's cardholder since 2007 and as far as I can see, I've never made a late payment with them. About a year ago, they bumped my credit card limit to $6500 with a $17.9% interest rate. I was finishing up college and I was running low on money, so I began using my credit cards. By the time I finally graduated college, I ran up my credit utilization over the 90% limit (around $12, 000 total). I found myself a job in early August and began paying off my cards. At this time, Macy's dropped my credit limit to the remaining balance on the card (around $5300) and began charging me an APR of 24.9% due to "outside credit information" (ie credit utilization), even though I've NEVER been late in payments with them or any of my other cards for that matter. I made my first payment on the card of $800, and watched my credit limit drop back down to the balance of the card within a few weeks and without any notice.
I gave them a call a few weeks ago, and after a long conversation the representative found that Macy's was going refuse to renew my card at the end of its expiration date & close the account, in spite of always making timely payments on all of my cards. Explaining to the representative that I am finally working and would have all my debt paid in several months was not enough. I was forced to close my card on my own prerogative because it would otherwise state on my credit report "Closed at the Creditors Request". As of today, my credit report reflects that my high balance on the card is $5300 & the limit is $4500, which will clearly hurt my credit score in the future, appearing as if I must've missed many payments on an overlimit account. I requested from the lenders to close the account, indicating a credit limit of $6500, because otherwise it would be unfair to reflect my past high balance with a much higher limit. They refused, claiming I was asking them to do something fraudulent.
At the end of the day, I'm left with a closed out card with a 24% interest rate on a balance that is to be paid off, a credit score that will look sore for some time, and a disgruntled taste in my mouth about how Macy's lenders proved they will play with your interest and limits at any given day, despite never missing any payments.
recruitment process
I would like to share my recent interview experience at Macy's. This was at the West Valley Mally for the opening of the new branch in Tracy, California. I had applied for the position of Administrative Associate. I am a graduate with experience and had all the necessary skills outlined for this position.
Moreover, I was later sent an email inviting me for an interview. I went for the interview at Tracy Recruiting Center for Macy's and was interviewed by a person named Roya whom I believed was from the HR Department. She asked me questions based on the above-mentioned position. I myself have also worked in the Human Resources Dept of a multi-national organization as a Training and Development Manager, therefore the process was easy for me. At this moment the interviewer seemed very impressed with my interview and advised me should you qualify for the position, I will call you for second interview.
And I was called for the second interview. This time a person by the name Michael Montanino called for a second interview. At this time I was expecting someone from HR, like Roya to call. Nevertheless, I was so excited with my understanding of a second interview and with the confirmation of Roya that they will call should I qualify. I believed they will confirm me and discuss the working hours, site visitation etc. So when I went for second interview, I was interviewed by another person named Michael. He started his interview for a different position altogether. I was not informed prior that this second interview is not a follow-up of your first interview but for a different job altogether. However, all this while I was assuming this second interview would be for the exact position I had applied for. And rightfully that is how it should have been. I personally have experience with hundreds of interviews where we professionally organized the details of the short-listed candidates before calling them. I sensed and noted, these staff did not properly discuss prior to calling and interviewing candidates. Michael mentioned to me that the Admin Associate job has been filled and he would like to offer me something different. I was glad with the offer. He mentioned this was something of a Team Lead position. He thoroughly discussed my Resume and went over it and even mentioned to me "You belong here, you have got great organizational skills - this is what we are looking for and you are it". So he said, he is going to confirm the position right now since this was my second interview and he also mentioned there is no need for a third day. Let me confirm this right away.
Furthermore, he stated he needed to discuss few details about the job to his fellow collegue - someone by the name Gaibe. By end of the second interview with Michael, he had confirmed me a position even though a different one. At this point I was told I will have a third interview with Gaibe now. So this third person comes up and starts his interview session with me. He also went over my Resume and asked questions based on my prior work experiences. He also stated I had great skills and a good match for our team. By now judging by the organizational and leadership skills of Michael and Gaibe I told myself these two cannot be from Human Resources and they seemed to have little to no knowledge of hiring /recruiting process. I felt embarrased being passed from Roya to Michael then to Gaibe - 3 interviews with nothing solid yet. Now Gaibe started discussing with me commission based and on-call part time positions with very short hours and few days off as if to shoo me away! The point to note is where all this started from and where it has ended. By now I was so depressed. This seemed totally disorganized esp.on the part of the HR team - I am sure Roya could have done a better job. This is not just any company - this is Macy's and its reputation these staff are putting at stake. Gaibe finished his interview and advised me he would give me a call on Tuesday 7th September. Later as Gaibe was done, Michael comes along and tells me sorry but the position he was offering me was not available anymore while just few moments ago he was confirming me for the position. And I could not even understand the purpose of third interview with Gaibe. He was discussing things which was not of my interest.
I just could not get what was going on with these three staff passing me around and with three totally different perspectives. This was an indication the 3 staff didnt properly sit together and discuss or review the points before interviewing. Very dis-organized and un-professional. Made me feel like an idiot. Michael and Gaibe work under the same roof, how could Michael confirm me for a position and later same day tell me the job is not available. Seems like a communication break-down between staff. They were discussing my organizational skills - I wonder what level is theirs. So the final say after the third interview by Gaibe was that they will call me on Tuesday 7th Sept.
My first interview with Roya was on 26th August, the second and third with Michael and Gaibe was on 3rd Sept. Now Michael had confirmed me for a position then later decided to take it away saying nothing is available while Gaibe decides to give me a call on Tuesday 7th Sept and through all these process there was no word from Roya whatever happended to the first interview deal where she advised me they will call for a second interivew if I qualify for the postion of Admin Associate - the position I was interested in and applied for.
By now I was psychologically down and depressed with what these three staff of Macy's had done to me. With my experience of HR we had never treated our candidates like this in such an unprofessional and totally disorganized manner. So I came back home heavy-heartedly. I could not sleep the night so I decided to go back to the recruiting centre in Tracy and share my thoughts with Roya. I went the next day Saturday 4th Sept however, Roya was not around so I shared my concern with Michael since he was the one who called me for second interview. I explained all the above from my perspective and he realized and agreed they had done wrong. He accepted their mistake in the presence of my father and few other interivew candidates. He even apologized to me. At this point he did accept that they were at fault and promised me he will discuss this with Roya again and get back to me. Now he went on to say they might re-think about the Admin Associate position as it was still not filled while a day before he told me the position was filled. He also went on to mention he would consider me for a position from his department but they will definitely work something out as they were at fault. When I stated to him of the interview with Gaibe and the kind of options he started giving me, Michael stated he didnt send me to him for discussions on on-call position and commission based position. Then I wonder whatever the third interview was for. To my surprise Michael even mentioned Gaibe is in no position to interivew candidates like me. This made me wonder how qualified are these staff themselves esp. who are involved in recruiting and hiring. I told Michael you three should have instead prepared your questions and interviewed as a panel and he even agreed with me. I told him if you agree then why didnt you all did that at the first place. All he could say was sorry and they were at fault. He again made a promise that this matter will be discussed with Roya and they will defineltely call me on Tuesday 7th Sept. Meanwhile, he gave me his cell phone number [protected] and his personal email (not with company domian) [protected]@yahoo.com and told me I could call him whenever I wanted and email him whenever as he checked his email about 25 or more times a day. This again made my wonder since this was not companys email the staff are logged onto the interntet to check their personal emails so many times a day.
On 7th Sept, however, noone called but sent an email they didnt have any oppotunity for me.Very interesting. Calling me for first interview, then second interivew, then third, then confirming another position and deciding to take it away and then the email - final blow!
My concern is not that I didnt get the job, what I am concerned is what all is going on in there.I thought Macy's was an Equal Opportunity Employer. When Michael discussed with Gaibe about the position he wanted to confirm me for and later after discussing he decides the jobs in no longer available made me feel was the job reserved for someone else? Was I discriminated? Too many questions are being raised into my mind after the experience with Macy's staff Roya, Michael and Gaibe. I have trained people like Gaibe and Michael. My opinion is such people should not be assigned to recruit.

Macys is a joke to apply at, I wasted time, money and energy on a worthless interview. I applied for a sales job that was already filled and I was not told till I was an the interview. I was told they would pass on my resume to another manager in another department. Yea right what a waste of time, I will never apply there again and will not recommend that place to anyone for work. Unprofessional
Although I did not have the same problem as you two I do find their hiring process messy. When I went for my interview I had to wait more than half an hour for a manager to become available to interview me. Come' on I was scheduled its not like I randomly appeared there for it. When asked for my availability hrs I told her I was available to work nights because I had school in the morning yet they put me in a team that only works in the morning. Thankfully I got that fixed so I didn't have to quit nor move from the department. They also messed up my personal information so in their In-Site (where you check your schedule and pay) I forgot my password so I decide to hit the "Forgot password" link. If I remember accurately they ask for the last 4#'s of your social, your mother's maiden name and your zip code. They messed up in one of those so I had to go to hr to get it fixed. Which was another pain.
I had a similar experience 2 days ago although I did not go through more than one interview. I applied for an admin position. Filled out the application on line along with my resume. Answered the very long questionaire and was sent an email to schedule an interview for that postion. When I went to the interview I was only asked 2 or 3 questions about sales. Nothing to do with the admin position. I inquired about the hours of the admin job and the interviewer who never introduced herself so I dont even know her name said that the position had been filled. I just looked at her for a second not saying anything because I was shocked as to why that would not have been mentioned before I went or at least at the start of the interview. She then said that they still had to interview me because it was scheduled. What? Then she said she was interviewing me for a recruiting job. I never saw any advertisement for a recruiting job. After her 3 questions, she left the room for about 5-10 minutes and then came back and said, ok we will keep your application on file. The interview lasted 5 minutes and 2 days later I received an email saying thank you for applying but we selected someone else whose background and skills were a better match for the admin position. What happened to the recruiting job? This seems like a scam. This was a total waste of my time including the whole online questionnaire that I had to fill out. I will be contacting the CEO Terry Lundgren as I feel this is extremely unprofessional and very misleading to candidates. It is hard enough to be looking for a job. You would hope that the job you are interviewing for would still be available before you get to the interview. What a scam.
scam
Hi Everybody!
I used to be a regular customer at Macy's until last week. I am a student, and had an upcoming job interview. I had the 20% off coupons from Macys that were to to me by mail, and had clear instructions that stated that these coupons can be used on sale and clearance items. The exclusions were few brands like Armani, Louis Vitton, but the card did not explicitly mention that the savings coupon did not cover Anne Klein. I spent an hour trying out the suit skirts, and when I finally arrived at the billing section, the sales person told me there was something wrong. She was not able to apply the discount to my purchase. She could not also tell me the reason why it failed. She told me it was supposed to work, but somehow could not be applied. When I came home, I tried applying the same coupon for the same suit skirt purchase online at Macys.com, and it worked! The coupon was meant to be used both in store and online, but somehow did not work in store.
When I sent numerous emails asking for clarification, the hopeless customer service did not respond.
I could have purchased the item, but chose not to because what Macy's did was clearly questionable and not ethical. They were trying to lure customers by their coupons, and once a shopper spends her time there looking for a right product, they are confident that chances of people returning them just because their coupons won't work is negligible.
They should be ashamed for the level of service and their denial of what is assured. For the first time, I ventured out in New York city looking for better places to shop. Macy's used to be the only store I had visited, and now thanks to Macy's, I found Lord and Taylor, Bloomingdales. Finally I purchased a very decent Anne Klein suit from Lord & Taylor, for 100$ (it was on sale!) and saved more than a 100$ than what I would have if had I shopped in Macy's.
Thanks Macy's because you suck and thanks for opening my eyes to other places to shop at! You have lost one customer for life, and many of my friends. Believe me, if you think you can lose one customer, be ready to lose another 10 to your competitors.
Also, you need to do your homework better. Both Bloomingdale's and Lord & Taylor belong to Macy's, Inc. (or used to). Lord & Taylor was sold off because it was competition to the other Macy's-owned high-end retail store: Bloomingdale's. Bloomingdale's still belongs to Macy's, Inc. And as the Macy's employee above stated there could be numerous reasons as to why the coupon did not qualify in-store, however, the online site has to be more forgiving otherwise the customer will not return. So before you go running your mouth about which store is better than the other do some research.
Are you stupid? Really read the exclusions...I have a macys card and I do receive my coupons and I READ the exclusions all the time...There could be so many reasons why your coupon was not excepted it could have been a special, it could have been a impulse item...Oh btw I do in fact work at macys and I HATE when customers complain about the coupons
double charge for shirts
On Aug 6 2010, I purchased a few shirts from the Men’s Dept. The first associate, Julie tried to run my Visa card and could not so she manually typed the credit card number. She seemed new and was not sure if the transaction went through or not so she went and got a second associate to re-scan the shirts one by one again, it’s now 9:15 PM and the store closed at 9PM. I signed the electronic pad to accept the $210 charges. On Aug 9, 2010 I logged into my visa checking account to find out two charges went through. I called my banking institution and was informed that both charges for the same amount were put through by Macy’s. Since Macy’s billed me twice, I was advised by the bank to work it out with the store. I called the store and was told by the Macy’s Rep to bring a copy of my statement showing the duplicate billing plus the receipt which I did. When I got to the store, Julie the first associate that scanned my shirts was working in the men’s dept. She knew exactly what she done wrong when I showed her the receipt and online bank statement. She quickly called the Manager on duty AnnMarie. AnnMarie spoke to me and collected the documents. I waited for a total of 45 minutes in the Men check-out while she took the documentation to verify in the upper floor. She returned and said the first associate attempted to void the transaction and the second associate billed me for the 200+ amount however for some reason the duplicate amount went through and it would take my bank approximately 7 business days to post/credit the amount back since Macy’s is showing they voided the first transaction. I have no IDEA what type of scam this is but retailers can not keep $210 of someone’s money for 7 days because they hire stupid employees that can’t operate their system correctly. The right thing for Macy’s to do was to credit me for the duplicate billing however an Asian lady steps up (without a Macy’s name tag) trying to explain the same load of crap. Then I tell them it’s not right for a retail store such as Macy’s to double bill their customers and then keep the money for 7 days. Suddenly a white Caucasian steps up (also without a name tag) repeating things for a third time. He informs me if I was not happy with Macys, then I could go ahead and file a fraud charge with my Bank. I told him I did not think fraud was necessary since this was a duplicate billing in error. I just wanted a credit for the duplicate billing so I could be on my way…the Asian lady is calling on her walkie talkie and now the Caucasian guys is also calling on his walkie talkie too. AnnMarie is telling me they can not reverse the duplicate billing. So I told all three of them, I will file a fraud claim with my Bank since Macy’s was only authorized to bill me twice for the same shirts. The Caucasian guy was taunting me and saying it was not fraud. He was saying things like we are done, we are not having this conversation. I took my black card which my husband and I have been a black card holder since 2005 spending an average of [protected] per year with Macy’s downtown out and I folded it in half, MACY’s has LOST this customer for life since they are cheating their customers which is completely unethical. I backed up from the Men’s register and went up to the first floor to leave the store. The Caucasian guy followed me on the escalator and outside to the parking lot as if I stole anything when in fact MACY’S IS THE THIEF in this situation, they just stole $210 had I not log on to check my account!
Shoppers BEWARE of MACY’s duplicate billing practice when you use your bank/credit cards. I know the economy is tough on most Americans but to have a national retailer STEAL is unacceptable. They should be ashamed and I will post up with my company of 1000 plus employees, plus I am getting ready to email this to friends and family so we should stay away from MACYS. Only go there if people are up to losing time, getting bad service, being mistreated and having your hard earned money stolen. SO check your bank/credit card statements careful for those duplicate/MISC billings from MACYS.
Thanks for reading and take care. Best wishes to American and its people who continues to work hard.

diamond earrings
I went to Macy's Friday July 30 to look at the price on some diamonds. I use to have bad credit but its been getting better. So anyways, after looking at some diamonds I told the sales rep I would be back on the 1st after I got paid. She said that I could apply for a credit card and I said I would on the first...anyways I thought my credit wouldn't clear and I went for it. I got approved and was super excited. When the sale was complete I was told this was only a presale and I had to come back on Sunday or later to get my diamonds which would be stored in a safe for me. Well I got the earrings today alright. But as soon as the lady opened the box I said to myself that these were not the ones I had. I mean, the other ones as soon as I laid eyes on them I wanted them. And didn't stop talking and thinking about them the whole weekend. But as soon as I saw these ones they did not even attract me. I swear I think they gave me a lower quality pair. They were a bit dirty which lets me know straight up that these were not the ones I was shown for the other ones were not. They are set in yellow gold and the shine is not the same. I don't see what I saw before.
@Stealth Pilot...supposedly they were going to put them in a safe for me(implying I was getting the ones I saw). I also called them today and they said that they could not return or exchange them because they were the only pair. I understand about the lighting and all that. I even told the rep I talked to today that I knew they used lighting to make the diamonds shine more, however, it was in the store that I noticed they were different; so I noticed they were different with the same lighting. I also explained to her that I had been out the night before drinking and did not trust my judgment at the time and that is why I didn't say anything there and then. Also, for their company's sake it was better for me not to say anything at that time since I do tend to get very argumentative and a bit aggressive. She said she would talk to management and then call me back. When she called me back she said she could not return them, but they were going to let me exchange them due to their ESP program which lets you exchange the diamonds after 3 years. But they were going to let me exchange and upgrade after only 30 days, which is good. however, by doing so, I'm only purchasing more expensive ones and giving them more money. So now that I think about it, I don't want to do that.
I did not look at them under the loupe. However, as I explained to her when she started to try to tell me that diamonds have inclusions inside of them, I already know that. Many of the people I hang out with don't know the difference between a crystal, a cubic zirconia and a diamond; however, I do and when I look at those earrings I know they are not worth what I'm paying for them. I am taking them to get appraised in many places before I go inside the actual store and raise hell.

discrimination
Macy's has discriminated against me regarding a medical condition that I have.
On May 29, 2010, around 8:15 pm, I decided to take a visit at the Town East Mall location to purchase my wife some fragrance on a special evening. This women by the name of Tedra who worked in the fragrance department, attempted to assist me. There was also another woman beside her which she decided to leave shortly after. Tedra advised me that she didn't have the type of fragrance I was looking for. As I was walking out towards the mall searching for another store, she asked me, what is that in the back of your neck? I replied to her, What do you mean? She rudely stated, It looks like wing worms on your neck and it looks bad. For a women that I have never met or known, to embarrass and disrespect my medical condition made me feel very degrading as a man. I decided to go back into the store and find out her name and spoke with a manager regarding this issue. Joy Black was the manger that assisted me in taking down my information and advising me that this complaint would forwarded to the store manager. Macy's refused to resolve this matter and accommodate me for mental stress, time loss from home and work.

ashley hall was very unhelpful and rude and claimed that she could do nothing since the 180 days had passed
I had bought a Ralph Lauren sweater from Macy's at Woodfiled Mall in Schaumburg, IL more than a 180 days ago but hadn't used it till recently. When I washed it according to the label instructions, the brown color bled onto the white and ruined the sweater. When I took it back to the store the manager, Ashley Hall was very unhelpful and rude and claimed that she could do nothing since the 180 days had passed. Now, I understand the 180 day policy for returning goods, but it was clear that Macy's had sold a poor quality product from a major brand such as Ralph Lauren and that they could clearly take up the matter with RL. However, she was very rude and made no effort to help me.
I'm assuming you had no tags or receipt. Macy's will extend that 180 day policy if you have proof of purchase, but if you have nothing...that's what you get...nothing. And I agree...take it up with RL yourself. It's not Macy's fault that RL sold them and now you a unsatisfactory product. Get a grip.
Really, what was she to do? You know the other week I was w0rking with this woman who wanted to return items that she claimed were "sent to her in the mail" but some items didn't have tags. I don't think she was trying to scam, but some people do, but we have to have those tags to add an item back to inventory and she just couldn't seem to understand. People just want what they want, not what makes sense.
Dawniette - I agree! I was at my store a few weeks ago walking through after clocking out, and another associate was dealing with a customer who wanted to return bedding she bought a year ago. BEDDING! I don't know about you all, but I'm in a metropolitan area, where people may be living with bedbugs. I said then and there that I thought that was gross. A YEAR!
check authorization policy
I have shopped at Macy's for many years & was surprised that on 6/4/10 after making a purchase with a check which is the way I normally pay for my purchases, I gave the Macy's employee my driver's license. She then pushed a box with numbers & told me to enter my SS#. I told her I had made purchases just last week & did not have to give my SS#, she said it was new store policy. I told her there was no way I would be giving Macy's my SS#, I paid cash & went to customer service & again was told this was now store policy. Also, they're not asking for SS# if you use their Macy's card or any other credit card. I E-mailed Macy's & the response from Credit Customer Service, Colleen McGuinness was that Certegy would be handling all checks processed through Macy's & this information is required by them, Ph# [protected]. I called & a recording ask to list date check denied, I never got to talk to anyone at Certegy. I tried to call Macy's customer service [protected] & no person, only a recording about my account or if I wanted to make a payment on my Macy's account. ( I don't have a
Macy's account, nor do I want one)
When there is such a concern over identity theft, why would Macy's think their customers' should trust Centegy with their SS#. Macy's is the only store requesting this information for check authorization.
No longer a Macy's customer.

card holders receive benefits next to nothing
They say that members (macys card holders) recieve special discount coupons in mail..Its been more than a year I have been a member of macy's...I have NOT receive a SINGLE coupon on my name...
When I call up the customer service, each time the call takes around 30mins and each time they have a different answer..The first representative says that I have not used my card to be eligible to receive the coupons (And the truth is I use my card ATLEAST once in a month, How often do they want me to use the card? )
The second rep says that coupons are mailed one per household and the coupon mailing is associated to my husband's macys card, Since he does not use his card often, they are not sending the coupons...But, hey, what about my account...I am using it often and don't receive any coupons on my name?...The representative says they is hardly he can do anything abt it...Thats so wierd...
The third rep says she is gonna recheck my a/c to see why the coupons are not being mailed and the time frame the process takes is 1-2 weeks...Hah...Taking their own sweet time to get thgs straight on their end...
All the reps suggest me to get printable coupons from online...But those are exclusive coupons applied on selected items...And also most of their coupons donot apply on "Everyday value" items cloths which constitute 90% of their clothing department...Those hardly make any sense for 95% customers like me...Huh...
I AM GONNA CLOSE MY A/C WITH MACYS AND LET ALL MY FRIENDS AND FAMILY MEMBERS KNOW HOW MUCH TERRIBLE IS MACYS CUSTOMER SERVICE..I WILL MAKE SURE THEY DON'T SHOP IN MACYS AGAIN AND DO THEMSELVES A FAVOR...
Do you think this company is still back in 1901? Hello they are here to make a profit for the shareholders, and the customers are last.
credit card scams
Macy's is running a credit card scam. I am sure of it now. The first time it happened to me, I gave them the benefit of the doubt. But it happened again. This is the 2nd time. It is not going to happen again because I will never do business with Macy's ever again.
Here is what happened:
I was shopping and the clerk said that if I applied for a Macy's credit card that I would save X amount of money on the purchase that she was tendering. She pointed out that Macy's offered additional savings on a regular basis to their credit card purchases. So I opened a credit card account and purchased the items that way.
I didn't receive the first bill until after the due date and there were late fees. I always pay my bills as soon as I receive them. The problem was that I didn't get the first bill until after the due date. So they was a large late fee and interest. I called customer service and the woman I talked to was nice about it and waved the fees. So I thought that it must have been a mistake, and that since they handled it fairly, I would keep the credit card. Then I found out that I had a VISA also. I didn't know that they had issued 2 accounts. This was confusing. I couldn't believe that I had opened a VISA account without even knowing that I did. It was my understanding that I was only opening 1 account - a simple Macy's charge account. So I asked the Macy's representative to close the VISA account. I didn't use my Macy's card for quite some time after that - at least a year. I was shopping there recently and made a fairly large purchase on my Macy's credit card. They offered 10% savings, so it seemed worthwhile. I planned to pay it off as soon as I got the bill. I knew in the back of my mind that a bill would arrive shortly, but I wasn't spending all of my time looking for it. After all, I am very busy. I work. The bill came and I thought to myself, Oh good, I will pay that today. I opened the bill, and was shocked that it was already past due and once again there was a huge late charge and interest charges. I was angry. I called customer service right away and explained to the guy who answered that this was the first bill that they had sent me, so it seemed unfair to charge me the late charge and the interest. This time I didn't get anywhere. The guy shot back at me with a bunch of canned responses. One of the things he said to me was "You still owe the money even if we don't send you a bill... You are still responsible for that charge" . I told him that I was going to never shop at Macy's again. It is clear to me that it takes a while for the first charge to kick in, so by the time you get the first bill, it is late. I normally don't have problems with my mail, so it is unlikely that the bill got lost in the mail. Long story short, I paid the bill the next day in person, and then closed the account the following day. I will never do business with Macy's ever again, with or without a credit card. Never again. Never, ever again. I told the woman that handled my in-person payment that I was going to look on the internet and that I was sure that I would find complaints similar to mine. So I looked and found this site with many complaints and some of them are indeed very similar to mine. I believe that Macy's tricks their customers so that they can make money charging fees. I am responsible and pay my bills on time. I am offended by the way that Macy's tricked me multiple times. Macy's needs to shape up. They need to be accountable.
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
I TOO HAVE HAD MACY'S SEND ME MY BILL'S LATE OR NOT AT ALL FOR UP TO TWO MONTHS WITH REALLY HEFTY LATE FEE'S. I TRULY THINK THEY DO THIS ON PURPOSE AND I WILL NEVER SHOP THERE AGAIN...WARNING...DON'T "EVER" OPEN A MACY'S CREDIT CARD I THINK THIS IS STANDARD PROCEDURE JUST TO GET LATE FEES OUT OF WHOEVER THEY CAN, WHENEVER THEY CAN...
rude employee
First of all I would like to start by saying that this store is becoming more and more predjudice everyday! I was shopping in Macy's lastnight around 9:30! Not one time did the employee's ask did I need any help. But you can best believe the worker on shift was watching my every move. It came time for the store to close and they came over the intercom to please take the rest of your items to the register, as I did. When I got to the register, my shirt didn't a price tag for them to scan. The young man ask me if there was another shirt like that on the rack, because this one didn't have a price tag. I told him that i wasn't sure but it had come from off of the clerance rack, which said the shirts were 9.99. Then gurl that was working also said that she would look. SHe finds the shirt and says yes its 10.99. Then it came time for them to ring up the jeans and this is when all *** broke lose. They told me they were 20.99 and the sign where I got the jeans said clearly that they were 14.99. Now every pair of jeans on the rack looked exactly a like on the front, stitched in white. But on the back of the jeans they had several different ones. It just so happen that I had the last pair that looked like the ones I wanted. The worker had the nerve to tell me there were no more like the one's I had so I would have to pay full price. Now I am pissed as *** because you could clearly see that all of the jeans were just a like aecept for the pockets had several different styles. The 5 dollar difference wasn't the point it was the principle that she didn't want to give me the advertising price. I have spent hundreds of dollars in this store and this is how I am treated. I had a pocket full of money and could of payed any price. But I guess because of the color of my skin I couldn't get any help or customer appreciation either! But If I was putting the *** in my purse I could of got all the help I needed then, Huh!
The merchandise is made in other countries from sweat shops, shut up!
fraud - stolen information from within macys
Do not ever get a macy's visa or for that fact any macys cards (Including bloomingdales)
Visa card is used in stores like reg. Macy's card giving macy's employees the ability to see your visa information. Someone recently changed my address and received new visa cards clear across the country in california, where they were able to charge $4000.00 worth of jewelry! Macys never called me to verify the address change and they changed my telephone number as well! When I logged on to check my balance and saw my name with a california adddres & phone number when I reside in new york. After calling the number, I was shocked to hear a voice mail account set up with my name and it was not me!
Heres the kicker, the same thing happened to a friend of mine a month or so prior. Wish I would have cancelled my card then, but thought it was a rare occurence. We both had shopped at local macy's prior to this.
Cancel your macys cards before you are a victim of identity theft! I had to join a high cost monthly service to protect my identity!
I HAVE A CHARGE CARD, AND THE BALANCE ON IT IS A LITTLE OVER 800.00, BUT I CANT USE IT, OR GET ANY OF IT OUT.I MAKE PAYMENTS, AND HAVE NEVER BEEN LATE, THEY HAVE NOT RENEWED MY CARD, THEY JUST SAY I CANT USE IT ANT MORE, , , BUT I CAN MAKE PAYMENTS ON IT, I DONT UNDERSTAND HOW THEY CAN DO THIS, , WHY PAY FOR SOMETHING THAT I CANT SEEM TO USE ANY MORE?
Macy's is the worst. I've charged less than $500 on my Macy's account in the last ten years. Someone with a fake license and NO credit card was able to go on a multiple thousand dollar spending spree covering Macy's stores in 3 states in three days. Macy's allowed a loan, upped my credit limit, and changed my address for them. They are handling the aftermath very poorly too ... there is no reason not to pick up the phone when you see stuff like that. Having Macy's credit is like keeping your lifesavings in a coffee can on the front porch.
cuz you have used it in the past i guess call them and ask them
That's awful. I hope that you are seeking help from an attorney. I would let the BBB & the media know. (Does Fox still do that "Fox6 on your side" when someone is treated unjustly?) I hope your roof wasn't in too horrible of a shape when you first went to that company for help...
Received a call from Macys on 11/16/2010 that someone called to up my credit limit and I had not used my card in several years. They thought it was fraud, it was. We put the card on a fraud alert and put it on hold. I told them I would not be using the card. I put a fraud alert on my accounts and had life lock in place.
The woman who stole my identity called back and reopened my card with a fake drivers license 100 miles from my home that did not match the state of my application. No phone call was made to my home.
She charged the limit to my card of $1, 100. Even going back to Macy's to exchange her purchases to make her selection to her liking. She then requested a second card. This is when Macy's decided to call me to see if I wanted to approve a second card. I asked them why I wanted a second card when my first card was on a fraud alert on hold. They did not realize I even had a first card at the time of the phone call.
I now have to file 3 police reports and the police do not want to help. I have already file 3 police reports in my home town. A federal report. A fraud report. and contacted my banks, other credit cards at least 40 times...I am exhusted...and this is with having life lock for 4 years...
The moral of this story is don't have any...yes, any store cards...because yes, Home Depto got hit too...this woman went into home depto with a fraud alert on and told showed the fake drivers license and got my credit card number and did not get stoped until she charged $2, 000 and guess what I have to file 3 more police reports for 3 more towns...
And now she has power...she has succeeded...becasue the failure of Macys...they knew she was out ther on 11/16 and then just gave her the account number...it is too easy for these jurks to give out account information...this does not happen with regular Visa, master cards or Amex...the only way they get your number is if they steel the number...with the stores they just give the crooks the number...
Please close all store cards...it is not worth it...and do not just close them...tell them close means do not re open in one week or 30 days...they have a policy that a closed card can be reopened in case you change you mind or even if the crook feels like opening it with fake ID...so please get a service like life lock and close your store accounts...
I feel bad because my Mom works at Macy's and makes her living opening up Macy's charges but I told her she is doing a diservice to her customers...I had my daughter close her card yesterday...
Please...please close all you cards...that are not store cards
I applied for a Macy's card too, It seemed harmless enough, I NEVER received my card, NEVER received a bill that was of course gaining interest & late charges. When I opened the account I confirmed my information 3 TIMES because the person entering it messed up, but it was finally right, or so I thought. When I called searching for my card & bill, the street address was WRONG! They reversed the charges made the necessary address changes and said I would receive my bill in about 2 weeks...Well I got my card, but NEVER received the bill, I called them AGAIN..I just want it paid, I worked too hard to keep up on my bills and credit..What is wrong with this company?
rude female black rep
I bought a watch of other brand and went to DKNY counter to adjust the chain. Two customers were there besides the counter waiting. I came over to ask where to adjust the chain. A male rep told me where the line is. One customer left with her watch adjusted minutes later, so I came over to give my watch. I don't know which rep works for DKNY and which rep is responsible for chain adjustment. Now a female black rep pointed and yelled this was DKNY counter, DKNY customers went first, you had to wait. She was extremely rude and loud to clear the area at the front of the counter. How do I know the other customer is DKNY customer? (She may be choosing watches or waiting to adjust watch chain too) If customers came over to fix chain, where are they supposed to stand then? I saw one standing closely by the counter! And she was gone when I was waiting! Stupid rep just doesn't know how to say in a nice way and respect customers.

forcing employees to quit vs. pay unemployment
We have disturbing testimony that macys wrongfully, perhaps, criminally committed in order to” force us to quit ”. "if they wanted to fire me, why didn’t they just do it asap? Instead, they told me to resign, harrassed me to quit, falsified misconduct records twice, misrepresented / defrauded my schedule, shortened my drawer by $10 (Enough to be written up...
Read full review of Macy's and 51 commentsinternet "shipping fee"
When I went to order online with Macy's I discovered they kept increasing the "shipping fee" the more items I ordered. The first time I called they said, after a long painful call, to a heavy accented woman, that she would adjust the fee. When order confirmed the large fee still there. When I called back second woman, speaking into a scratchy microphone, said "we charge not by the items but by the price of the item. I said so if I order a 4 pound item for $20 you will charge $6.95 but if I order a $100 item you charge $12.95. She said yes. Each $50 of price adds on another level of fee. $200 item, same weight, same address, would cost $23.
They gave me a $10 credit after I complained, but I sure wont order on line with them ever again. PS their website ordering process is painful to use.

negative experience all the time
I continuously receive coupons in the mail for what appear to be generous offers from Macy's. However, when making purchases, the items I buy invariably seem to be on the (rather substantial) list of exclusions. What is the point of "inviting" customers into your store, if it's going to be a negative experince. With the economy as bad as it is of late, you would think that they would not have any exclusions so more people would shop in their stores. Or maybe I have it wrong and they are immune to the present economic situation and don't need more sales.
I have been shopping at Macy's for almost 3 years now. Their coupons work most of the times on their website, but none of them works at any of their stores in my city (Kansas) too. Within the last 3 years, I had atleast 4-5 bad shopping experiences in their stores, mostly bad customer service experiences from their Representatives and sometimes even from their Management Staffs. I think Macy's needs to train properly their employees how to take care of customers with good customer service experience. If they can conduct their traditional "Macy's Parade" and other events during these recession times, they can certainly set aside some budget for their employees training also.
One time I even left one of their store without buying any of the clothes that I shopped for more than 1 hour and thought not to go back to their store again. Since I have a Macys Card, I shopped this holiday season once again, mostly through Macys.com. But when I went to do an exchange, I had to deal with a very bad experience in their store once again. This time, I complained about this shopping experience to their Corporate Office, but they also never cared to contact me back yet as if they don't care me as a customer and my business or they back their staff regardless of their bad attitudes and terrible customer service. I have now decided to not ever shop with Macy's again, 100% not in any of their stores for sure, and considering to cancel my Macy's card also. Now, most of my business goes to Kohl's and they treat me like a "MVC" and don't have any issues with exchanges or returns. Even though Macy's is established in 1900s, if hundreds or thousands of customers like this leave them, they will eventually start feeling the pain and I think that day does not seem to be so far.
The bottomline about my review is "Shop at a store, where you are treated like the way you want to be treated ("Most Valuable Customer") and not like a "jerk". Let small businesses in America grow now and help to break the monopoly that Macy's enjoyed at one point.
ridiculous that this company can have the power to screw my credit
I have had a Macy's credit card for several years. I recently purchased a mattress during one of their sales. This purchase was considered a 6 months deferred payment although I continued to pay my Macy's bill well over the minimum due in order to pay the mattress off as soon as possible. In February, I received my first letter stating I was late on my account. I knew this was impossible because not only was I paying them over the required amount I was making more than 1 payment a month. I called customer service and was told I now have 2 accounts. I was upset because the sales guy never mentioned this and we never received anything in the mail stating as much. The Macy's representative said it wasn't a big deal because we could take care of it over the phone. He was going to apply the money I was making to my so called other account so that I was no longer considered late and he was dropping the late fees. I was then informed that my other account was the same number as the first followed by a dash and a number. A month went by and I received another letter stating I was now 3 months behind. I called and there was no record of my previous call. My late fee had not been dropped and none of the money from my first account was applied to the delayed payment account. I got everything straitened out yet again after wasting more time on the phone. A few months later I went to apply for a car and found out that Macy's reported me 3 months late to the credit bureaus! Not only did this screw me out of a decent interest rate, it required even more time on the phone. I called and told Macy's I wanted it taken off my report since I was never late. That was over a month ago. I called again today because it is still on my credit report. I had to explain my story all over again and yet again there was no information concerning my first call about the credit report. The Macy's representative told me it would take yet another month before my credit was clear. This is unacceptable. I have been with this company for years and I have not paid one bill late. It is ridiculous that this company can have the power to screw my credit the way it did and show absolutely no remorse.
They lowered my credit limit with no notification which then put me over my credit limit...longtime customer being screwed over...told they have no control because its done with the computer. WHAT? Seriously, told them that a HUMAN BEING had to program this and a HUMAN BEING could fix the problem. Was then told they were able to do this with NO notification. Feel like a hostage in a credit world gone crazy!
What I hate more than anything now is we're all being held hostage by these damn Credit bureaus.
We get stuck with higher interest rates because so damn many people aren't paying their bills...so the CC Companies have to pass that on to US...those who DO pay on time.
But then crap like this...that Macys is pulling on you messes with your credit score and then the [censored] promptly continues to roll down hill.
I think it's entirely wrong that any credit card company or anyone else you may owe money to has the ability to mess with you in sooooo many ways and even when they're wrong nothing changes
registry rewards fraud
Macy's wedding registry rewards program advertises that Macy's will credit the bride/groom with a gift card worth 5% of the gifts purchased for them plus 10% of goods they "self-purchase." I was entitled to about $220 under this program, but I was mailed a gift card worth $13. I called Macy's repeatedly over two years and spoke to at least 6 customer service reps, wasting countless hours, and not one could explain what happened. Each promised a call back or transferred me to a different department, but no one ever returned the call or did anything productive. Finally this January a supervisor named Russell Turner sent me an inventory claiming I bought negative $1033 of goods at one point, which is obviously impossible and subtracted $103 of store credit. I did purchase an item for about that amount which was apparently entered with the wrong sign in their computer and explains the ~$200 discrepancy. Problem solved, right? Unfortunately, I emailed the supervisor three more times and left phone messages, which he stopped returning, and I never received the store credit. I emailed my complaints to the presidential office and was of course ignored. Macy's clearly has impossibly bad customer service, defrauded me out of over $220, and wasted easily 10 hours of my time. Shop at Saks or somewhere else that cares about customers.

oilyfatness is a good name for this creaton. 1st - contact store manager, if that gets you no where - phone corp. office and ask to speak to the office of Terry Lungren - he'll definately help you and you'll have the credit you deserve.
Omg y r u complaining? You didn't even buy the items from your wedding registry, it's the people who attended your wedding that bought the items that you requested on your bridals registry list! Just because you got upset about getting a gift card thAt has little money on it. You didn't buy the items in the first place! Cheap person! Ugh

Hello, I'm thinking this is a scam and/or sentiment shared among many unwitting customers of their registry. I got off the phone 2 minutes ago with a Macy's rep who will try to redeem the credit for me, but it will take up to a month. Funny thing is, it's deja vu because I went through this a month ago, because they had to make a claim and I had to wait. When nothing happened, I called back. So another month I have to wait.
I'm in the process of starting a lawsuit. This is unacceptable from such a large corporation to take advantage of its customers in such a deceptive and conniving way. Especially, newlyweds. Don't we get enough headache from all the vendors trying to take advantage of us during our wedding?
Thanks for posting.
My fiancee and I just created a registry a few days ago and I gave my account number to enroll in Registry Rewards.
Confirmed enrollment that day ...
Next day, online, it said we weren't enrolled ...
Re-enrolled.
Two days later ... says we aren't enrolled again.
That's how they'll avoid paying the % back on a Gift Card ... they keep kicking out the enrollment at random spurts and thereby declining to make a payment to the bride and groom for anything bought while "not enrolled" in the program.
It is after 1 am EST now ... I'll give them a call tomorrow. Sure that will be fun ... will probably try calling or emailing the Registry Consultants at the store first versus speaking to someone overseas who probably doesn't even understand the concept of a Wedding Registry.
It's about getting what they tell you you will get. it's a lie to promote a program that doesn't do as it claims. good luck.
Hah... you've spent "over two years" dealing with this? What the hell?
Plus, they did not "defraud" you. Sure, you didn't get what they claimed you would, but big deal. Did you have to buy all of the stuff off the registry yourself, or did family buy you gifts?
Calm down, princess. It's not the end of the world.
they don't honor their own receipt
I bought a pair of jeans and asked the cashier to put the receipt in the bag. When I went to return it, I just notice "merchant" printed on the receipt instead of "Levi". They could not find what that code stands for and the bar code on the jeans wouldn't scan either. I realized the original cashier must have the same problem, but it was right before store close, she made up something that matched the price. The manager decided "this is not a proof of purchase" and reminded me to read the receipt each time I buy something, that is to say from her own mouth "you can not trust Macy's". Also, she said "My manager won't come out to see you until next week."
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
Are you one of the cheap people who buy the jean, wear it for 4 months or more and then decide to go back go the store and return it? If so that is y the recipe doesn't match the tag! So freaking cheap jerk! Ugh
