1 year ago I responded to a notification that my Norton anti-virus protection was out of date by renewing it online. I was unhappy that I did it in the first place because the original package gave protection for 3 computers, whereas the package I recieved when I renewed it only did one computer. I had no intentions of doing it again, and now I have recived a $99.00 charge on my credit card with the following reciept; NORTON ANNUAL RENEWAL [protected] GB. I would like to be refunded the money as I have no intention of buying this product online ever again
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer's satisfaction.
Thx for your comment, but I think I got it all sorted out now. My first contact was via the support chat, which didn't turn out to have an impact at any time whatsoever (and I was registered with only one single account). When I called them, they told me I wouldn't have to worry. They would delete my credit-card information right after transfering my refund. Now all I gotta do, is wait for my creditcard statement. I'm keeping my fingers crossed X-D
I downloaded a free 30 day trial ware package which I canceled during the trial period because it did not perform as advertised. I was still charged 39.99 In addition I was billed for an even more expensive product which I did not order. My account was billed 64.99 for this product. I went through my Banks services and recovered my money. Now a month later I am again being billed for the same product which I never ordered and never received. I am a Senior citizen and I live on my social security. Because of the actions of this company I had to borrow money to pay my rent. I will be filing a complaint with the Ca. Dept of consumer affairs if money is removed from my checking account again. I have made numerous attempts to cancel this product with no success. The links provide by Norton are bogus and do not work.
Norton contacted me via e-mail and asked for my new card information so that they could renew my subscription to their Internet Protection service. I did not want to renew my subscription, so I did not give them my new card number. A few days later I received another e-mail from them thanking me for renewing my subscription with my NEW number that I NEVER provided them with. This type of activity is what Norton claims to protect against, yet they are the ones performing the theft.
Last week I experienced virus problems. I contacted Norton and was given pin number 194194. The case number was [protected]. I received phone calls which seemed to emanate from India, judging by the accents of the helpful operators. I was asked to make a payment which I did, by credit card and then as I had another commitment it was agreed that they would telephone me the next morning at an agreed time. The telephone call never came through and by that time the computer would not function at all. As I could no longer contact Norton I had to take the computer to a local firm which, although there was a delay because of other work, were able to fix the problems for a quarter of the amount I had already paid Norton. Now that I have the computer back and running I am requesting a refund of the money already paid. I can be contacted at [protected] during South African daylight hours. Ian Gillespie
I noticed after checking my bank statement I have two charges from the company listed above. One of the charges was for 34.99 and the other was for 74.99. I do not know exactly what the charges were for. I did download Norton Anti-virus from the website, which would account for one of the charges. What can I do to stop charges from my account and possibly get the amount of the unauthorized charges back?
I am contacting my bank and possibly my lawyer if I do not hear from you on this matter. If this is how you contact buisness I will go else where in the future.
Thank you for your time in this matter. cherrie weldon
To Whom It May Concern
On Dec.24 2009 I downloaded a free 30 day trial version of the NortonAntivirus. After consulting with my company and finding that I was not authorized to order such a program I cancelled the program. Since in the ad it said that if I cancelled within 30 days there would be no charge I assumed it was taken care of. When I recieved my card statement this month and there was a charge for that for 39.99 and another charge from you for 79.98 I'm confused. Since I did cancel the program in the alotted time please remove the charges from my credit card a.s.a.p. so I can get this mess straightened up with my company.
Thank You in advance for handling this matter,
Gary

Hi, I have just purchased a new computer for my daughter for her 18th birthday (1 week ago) and because we know and love teenagers we buy them the "best" protection for their computers because we're well aware they're going to access sites they shouldn't. But that's not the funny part. After 1 week of chatting on facebook, downloading tunes from limewire, etc, today she cannot open explorer because vista internet security 2010 has alerted her of a virus, unbeknown to me at the time that "IT" was the virus (or trojan)! So after hours of failed attempts to get her up and running again I google this on my computer only to find out that "IT" was the problem. Here's the funny part ... the first three downloads offered to fix this problem are to purchase NORTON! Hahahaha! Buy Norton and this can't happen. So I think, well ..., I did and it's installed on her computer, so let me contact them, which I did ... of course! The lovely lady on the telephone told me that she can put me through to the technicians who could help me resolve this issue BUT (big but) ... it will cost me! Do you have any idea how many thousands of solutions there are that will cost me? Why would I pay for a service for a product that I already have paid for? I can only think of two words that sum up how i'm feeling right now ... RIPPED OFF ... No ... PISSED OFF. Thanks for the great product and even better support.
I have not used Norton for almost a year.. Today I find a "Renewel charge" on my credit card statement. I tried calling Norton on my 1 hour comute this morning and was on hold for 54 minutes. As I type this I have been on hold a second time for 65 minutes. THIS IS A JOKE! I have over 2 hours on hold today and still listening to their elevator music! These people need to be fined! If anyone starts a class action lawsuit I am in!
I had Norton 2009 anti V, On my PC and it expired I then bought 2010 loaded it on my PC keyed inn the key code followed the prompts and activated it, that was abt3 months ago. Now get this all this time I am under the impression I have Norton 2010 right cause it loaded and activated. So Feb 28 I get some infection ok I call the number try to tell them that there is a technical issue and has been... they tell me to get rid of these infections i would have to pay $99.00 well I felt there was no way around this no matter what I tried to explain so I paid. Ok now I have a tech he asks me what version I have and I tell him 2010 ok he says nothing to me and he cleans the PC and tells me I have 7 days in case something fails. Well I ended up, calling back because something wasn't right my PC was still running crapy... So then another guy gets on my PC remotely and deleted my temp files and checked this an that and came up with nothing and this person was told I had 2010 also. Ok today I was having problem with certain minor issues and the tech takes control once again.. I explain what the problems are and he asked me what version I had I told him 2010 he said no you don’t you are running 2009... I said hold up that expired how can that be? Turns out they did not upgrade my PC when I sent in the activation key so let me ask you whose fault is this? I say it's a malfunction on Norton’s part 2 technicians who failed to notice this and one did cause he took the time too. he upgraded my anti v, and now i finally have 2010. I want a refund of $99.00 based on the fact it was a technical issue due to there incompetence that’s why I got the infections and I should not have to pay for something that was not my doing.
They are a ripp off and have been sued I have heard another class action is in the makes, have to wait and see
I am really disgus ted with thier service they ripped me off they also tried to bribe me into accepting a free years subscription instead of refunding my money I plan to take this all the way I wnat my money back because they never activated my antivirus and the technician even told me I was running 2009 when in fact I installed 2010 with my own bought CD .. 2 techs never noticed this and ever brought this to my attention yet they both worked on my PC ... you call that professional yeah right .. it was a cover up and mere ignorance to treat customers this way
I had ordered Norton Antivirus on March 13, 2010 for a 30 day trial offer which was downloaded from the internet from the Norton Antivirus website. On March 15, 2010 I called the 1-800 number to cancel the trial offer and was told that they did. At the same time I was chatting with a representative from Norton and he told me the order was cancelled also.
I needed to get my order number from them to cancel it myself but they assured me that it was cancelled. I asked for the confirmation through email which I was told by both of them that they could not send out emails because the company forbids it. Strange, to say the least.
Once I aquired my order number I went to the website to see if they had cancelled my order, they did not, so I cancelled it myself. I took a screen shot (picture) of the web page saying that it was cancelled. Ironically, I also received an email stating that I had cancelled the order.
On March 19, 2010 I received an email from Norton stating that they appreciate my recent order placed on March 13, 2010. The email made no mention of it being cancelled. Actually, they had reactivated it. I went to the website again and cancelled that one. I assume that this will be an ongoing thing until the 27th day till they charge my credit card for the unauthorized charges.
I have thought of closing the account and re-opening another one, but other people have reported that they have done this and Norton had charged their new number. I think it would be a waste of my time, plus, I have no other card to use while I wait for a new one.
I wrote an email to the company and received an automatic reponse saying the 'they care'. If they cared they would respect their customers wishes.
I had stated in the email, in chat, and on the phone with the reps that I do not want an order from Norton. I am being reactivated because they can't stant the fact that the trial offer was cancelled before the 27th day. Please don't use Norton. Their business practices are unethical.
After fighting several viruses, then intentionally renewing my antivirus software with norton my hard drive crashed. After my hard drive was rebuilt I moved on to a different internet security provider. I counted what I paid norton as a loss since it was all wiped out by a virus anyway, and was apparently worthless protection. In the mean time I paid for a year of protection I did not get and figured I'd never be able to get the money back anyway. I never authorized any further renewals to norton & never again received any notifications from them to purchase more software, yet there is a charge of $74.36 on my credit card for a norton annual renewal. I never authorized any such payment, nor did I ask for more of norton's inadequate protection.
Hello. I downloaded a Norton antivirus trial, but immediately got a virus and had to take my computer to the shop to be recovered. I assumed that since the program ( Norton antivrus) was removed from my computer, I wouldn't be charged once the trial period was up. I have a $77.00 charge on my credit card, and a damaged computer with no Norton antivirus to show for it. Please give me the information to contact someone to remove these charges.
I was charged twice for the same service. That is installing Norton Antivirus on my dad's computer ! I was charged once on June 6, 2010 and again on June 17, 2010. The first charge was $34.99 for a years service which included a 30 day free trial. The 30 day free trial came to an end and it didn't appear dad was protected any farther. I checked my Visa accn't for May and found that there was no charge to my accn't. So I thought that maybe I had made a mistake when I signed him up. Obviously, I am not a computer whiz. So I wanted him to have protection so I signed up again. This time it was $39.95 and the computer seemed to accept the Norton antivirus and loaded it and put an icon on his desktop. So all was well. Now I see on my latest Visa statement that in fact I was also charged for the original try to load the Norton Antivirus which as far as I am able to determine never loaded on his computer. And for sure he does not need two Norton Antivirus programs. I do not believe two programs can even run at the same time. I don't know what to do next? I hope to be hearing from a representative soon. Thank you !

I paid $50 for NAV in 2006. I got three viruses it didnt remove in they first year. Each time I was told that the viruses were lodged in system restore which their product doesnt search so they are not responsible. Therefore they can charge $100 each time to get rid of the viruses. At the end of the year, they automatically charged my account for another year even though I had deleted the main files and installed a free antivirus (Avast!, Spybot and Malware Bytes). They said that since I agreed to be automatically charged and I still had a nub of Norton they were allowed to do it. I showed my bank proof that I had cancelled in writing and the bank took the charge off my card. Not Norton- my bank. Ive been using FREE antivirus since the summer of 2007. My computer runs faster, when I get a virus, I run the antivirus and it cleans it up. Every time. For Free
I needed help on fixing a problem with my Norton AV for Mac, which occurred because of a screw up on updating subscription, which failed mid-way and then Norton kept saying "in process" and would not update or do anything else - leaving me in a big bind. More over Norton never lists any numbers (other than those where you have to PAY an addl fee). I finally got my credit card company to give me the phone numbers. When I called [protected], I believe I got some call center in India. They were arrogant, rude and most unhelpful. On three separate occasions, I got three completely different responses - none of which were even close to fixing my problem. One of them a rep by the name - Sid (#3930) was incredibly arrogant and even HUNG up on me! I managed to find out this place that Norton (Symantec) has outsourced to was called "yogi" something. MOST disappointing. SHAME on Symantec for ever-willing to make money off new products and subscriptions, but hiding behind some disappointing outfit for technical "support"!
Aside from your comment Norton Security is a busy body program -
that robs and interferes with system resources when you do not want it!
Having a system with 8 gig ram and 1TB hard drive Win7 my system should
not have any signs of interruptions -like slowing and choppy video -
This program also lets through most spam and spy ware …. Auto update ?
Runs wiled and also screws up system resources-most of all this program takes
over the PC - you would think it was made for homeland security rather than for the
home user …
I wanted to cancel my subscription to Norton anti-virus and waited on hold thirty minutes one day. I had to leave, so the next day I called again. I worked on other things while on hold, and I never did get to speak to a person after TWO HOURS AND TWENTY MINUTES! I would never purchase anything from a company that does not want to offer a real person to talk to. I resorted to going into the settings and switching off the automatic renewal that charges my credit card. If they still choose to charge my card, I will dispute it with the credit card company.
In 2003 I got rid of my old computer, which originally had NORTON installed on it for 2yrs (which was 3.5yrs prior at that time!) In 2003 AND in 2004 during the wintertime (don't recall exactly which month), I was FURIOUS, and phoned NORTON to CANCEL. I supposed (naively that they successfully REMOVED me... BUT NO, THEY DID NOT. Frankly, I had forgotten about it; this was partly due to other MAJOR PRIORITIES happening in my life. In 2001, 2003, 2004, 2009, and 2010 I had health issues with CANCER attacking my body! In 2005 I upgraded my computer, replacing the old one. In 2006 I established a new email address, etc. I.e. life continues w/o realizing NORTON kept BILLING my account ANNUALLY! One might ask how I missed it. Apparently billing occurs at the end of every year - between Thanksgiving & Christmas, when most of us - self included - are running hard; I hadn't been checking my account statement thoroughly. Darn. THEY REALLY NEED TO STOP THIS WRONGFUL DEED! I AM CALLING NORTON TODAY (AGAIN!)TO STOP THE EXPENSE FROM RE-OCCURRING.
On the 26/10/2010 Norton has taken an annual renewal amount of $99.99 ref# 180-068-0026GBR. This is not an authorised transaction and I require a refund as soon as possible.
You have to cancel these types of services before they expire so that they do not automatically renew.
Norton Antivirus Protection, I am writing you to ask that you credit my VISA card with the $64.19 charge on 11/29/10. I have not had Norton Protection since my computer crashed early last year. I have tried to cancel this, but have been unable to do so. I waited for nearly an hour when I called the 1-800 nunber listed on your website.
Please get this message to the proper person so this charge for 2011 will be removed from my credit card.
I have none of the Norton information requested in other screens. I have filed a greviance with Visa and am now registering one with you. Sincerely, Mary W. Hendrix, 275 Waugh Road, Crown City, OH 45623
Dear Sir,
I am advised that my Norton Anti-virus product will run out in February. However, I bought a new lap-top in December 2010, together with a new Norton anti-virus package. This was registered the first week in December so I think you will find that I do not need to renew your product until December, 2010.
Will you kindly amend your records, and advise me when this has been done. Thank you.
Yours truly,
Beryl A.Hinkley
I have just checked my credit card statement & for the second time I am noticing that Norton hve billed my credit card without my authorisation
Norton's software (along with almost all other security software) has an auto-renew feature. When you registered the software, they asked for you credit card information and also asked if you wish to have the software auto-renew. Unless you don't have (or ever had) Norton before, there isn't much that can be done. I'd advise going on their website's "contact us" section and speak to someone there instead of posting here, where most likely no one from Norton will ever read.
My boyfriend was told that our computer was moving slow due to an excess of unused files on our computer. He called quest (Our internet provider) to speak with them and to see if they could do anything to help as we are not the best at figuring out computers. Quest transferred us to the norton antivirus call center and told us they could handle this and help us with removing unused files. The representative of norton antivirus was able to get into our computer from their call center and manage the files themselves. Once the rep was finished removing our "unused files" we noticed that he had in fact deleted all of our pictures! Every last one. Birthdays, christmas, vacations etc. All gone. After four hours on this phone call the damage had been done and they offered no help at all to get these files and pictures back. We then gave the computer to the computer guro company and they were able to retrieve all lost files and pictures. This is great. However it cost us $250 and a week of missed work (My boyfriend works from home)! This to me is insane! We have to figure out how to pay $250 due to norton antivirus and their representative! Norton antivirus may have good antivirus software but their representatives are not smart enough to handle computer issues themselves. Never ever allow one of these reps to personally manage your computer and delete anything, you will be sorry!
dont tell us, tell them and your credit card company. we cannot refund your money. Call Norton and speak to the indian customer service agent of your choice - and let them know you do not want to renew. after they give you the rundown that you cant understand, call your credit card company and tell them you did not authorize the renewal.
Then, look for a free AV software. No need to pay for AV - there are tons of free AV's out there...
When I ordered the 360 4 Norton, every time I downloaded it said it was expired. I wrote 5 times to the company on the last one she finally told me I had to download norton removal tool. I would get just a bit here and there. So I called customer service and he said you have to do this, by this time I was totally annoyed and confused what to do. He was hesitant on helping me. Finally he did remote working on my computer. When you purchase something it should be self expanatory, give you right product numbers the one sent was in correct and the one in email too. Way to much trouble my computer was un protected for like 5 days.
I only use Symantec’s Norton security suite because Comcast, my internet provider, make you. If you don’t you get bad program conflicts. A few months ago my son downloaded a malicious antivirus program. It didn’t do any damage, but I couldn't get rid of it and it keep changing our desktop and giving us popup saying our computer was infected, etcetera. It was EXTREAMLY annoying. Unfortunately I don’t remember the name of it. I worked with Norton trying to get rid of it even to the point of calling them. No luck, so I bit my tongue as I hung up. After much work on my own I not only figured out how to get rid if it, I found out that Symantec OWNED the company. Yes, the article I found this information in did say that part of the purchase agreement was that they had to allow the Australian company to continue operations, but I did notice that all the other “software” this company offered was on Norton’s “Blocked” list, so they should know how to get rid of it. I tried to complain to Norton and to only to find out the have NO complaint departments! I bit my tongue again. Fast forward to this week. I had problems with Windows that messed up Norton. It took 2 hours on a remote desktop link to get Norton to work again. I would say that it was completely Windows fault, but Norton knew that the windows update was causing this issue, so I would think they would have known right where to go to fix it. Again, I bit my tongue. Then last night at 12:34 AM my phone rings. I don’t make it to the phone before it stops ringing, but my heart is going 90. I look at the caller ID worried about which one of my family called. It was a 1-800 number. I called it back. IT WAS NORTON?. I bit my tongue and hung up. Five minutes later, the same number called me. I said in an annoyed but low tone, "Do you realize its 12:30 in the morning. Why the hell are you calling me? Did they guy Hung up! No I’m sorry, no apologizes. I called the number and let it fly. I have never yelled at a service person before because I realize they are only the front line in a company, but I had had it. I’m going to pay to MacAfee.
Hi there,
Norton has charged me for a renewal of an antivirus that i am not using anymore,
So i want my money back and i want them to delete my credit card details from their database
My name is sergio munoz peralta and my telephone number is [protected]
Paid $40US a year ago for Norton 360. Received an email recently that an automatic renewal will now take $76.20 out of my bank a/c for next year’s service. WTF! The price has doubled! When calling customer service, I got India. Couldn’t understand a word she said. Something about cancelling my automatic renewal and refunding half of the $76.20. Her accent was so incomprehensible that she transferred my “case” to the U.S. Supposedly someone who speaks American will call me in 24-48 hours. I’m holding my breath.
On 04-12-2011 I renewed the Norton Security System on internet, by the authomatic renewal system on internet (Confirmation # NP [protected]), paying that with my credit card. Now, I get the "urgent" notice that today I'm unprotected because I didn't renew the security system. Even though, when I go through my account at Norton in the web, it appears as renewed on abril 2011 through abril 2012. It is impossible to contact Symantec Co.
Please, I need your advice or I'll appreciate to receive an answer for this inquire.Thanks.Mario Diez.
As of 24 october 2011 Norton Annual Renewal have taken £ 44.99 out of my account without prior notice. My reference is [protected]. I do not wish to use your anti virus, and stoped useing it last year and since updated with a new system. I would expect a full refund soonest. I will be taking this complaint up with my bank.
Unauthorised withdrawal of monies A$99.99 from my MasterCard account and I want it back.
I have attempted to order a two year renewal of my virus protection via Norton's website. The system went in 'order review' for nearly an hour.
On enquiring I was told my order had not progressed but it could be dealt with it over the phone and payment taken.
I now note that my new cover is only for one year not 2.
As I was not advised of this, I request that the cover period to 2 years - note that the cost I have paid for one year is jsut ubder the web site cost (of £64-99)
email contact is derekdixon1000@hotmail.com
on the 3rd of Feburary an amount of 59.99 was taken from my account for an renewal I already had purchased a 3 year product of nortons from a retailer and was just waiting to install on to my desk top when an automatic renewal occared and I have now paid for a product I will not be using could I please have the amount credited back to me I will wait to hear from you thank you June
I am a UK resident and cancelled my norton annual renewal three years ago .They have total ignored my cancellation and have been charging my credit card of £40 every year . So every time my statement comes in I have to request a dispute form to enable my funds to be reimbursed . This company is ripping people off !
Why can't the law intervene ?
You need to ask your credit card company to send you a dispute form .I have had to do this the last three years to get a refund on unauthorised transaction from Norton and yet every year they still take the money dispite cancelling the renewal!
The only other way is to close your credit card, that way they will not be able to take anymore.
i bought norton last year and installed it on my pc. but after 2 months it didnt protect my pc and my pc crashed . i got it repaired and again after 6 months i had to install new windows. norton is the worst antivirus. i contacted again the norton live chat and they said it was not their area and said reinstallation of windows. they said it was not their matter. i will never buy any norton product and also reccommend others not to buy it.
