My husband contacted canadian tire before going to their auto service @ horton/wellington.. re: thermostat changed on our truck... lady on the phone at service counter said they have the parts in-stock ready to go.. and made appt. for 1:30pm and supposed to be $90+ tax etc... well... they started out saying the parts weren't there and had to come from dorchester... then they came out with part after part from our truck saying this that and the other re: heating was kappoey.. so my husband said ok do what needs to be fixed for the heating controls and blower.. after all that, it came to around $500! omg! then my husband went to leave and as he was driving, the truck was not driving properly at all and we just had our truck serviced 3 weeks ago and e-tested it passed with flying colours.. now that they messed around the truck wasn't the same.. so he turned around and went back to the can. tire auto dept. and it seems they have no idea what they are doing and this is just ridiculous and what are we supposed to do.. what can we do about these crooked mechanics! unbelievable... like electricians have to have their work inspected.. plumbers.. etc.. they really should (government.. whomever) try and make laws or regulations so the consumers don't have to take it up the rear and nothing we can do about it! any suggestions on what/how to deal with this matter would be greatly appreciated!

very bad customer service, wrong estimate, poor service, not skilled mechanic
My Toyota Camry 99 got overheated like suddenly which make me tow the car to Canadian Tire, 2510 Hyde Park Gate, Oakville, ON. I explain not to fix the car until you give me the full estimate because I have limited budget, the car doesn't worth more than $1500 and I don't want to spend more than $500 on it. They told that I need to pay $48.50 for Cooling & Heating Inspection then they will be able to tell me the exact estimate. I agreed & I explain that it gets overheat in two minuets and I am pretty sure something wrong on thermostat or water pump. Because when I tried to turn the heater on inside is flowing cool & it is not getting hot also radiator was not that hot. Also the radiator fan was working properly; there was no sign of the leaking water. The time was 12:15 Aug 20 2013.
At 2:10 pm I received a call from Canadian Tire was a lady; she told me that I am lucky which the problem is just thermostat. But she recommended me to change the relay on high speed for radiator fan. However she said that is optional but better to do it. I told them are you sure that going to be the problem? Since I am limited on my budget, she said I would give you $30 off cause I had membership cart and confirm the issue is the thermostat. The total of $428+Tax was supposed to be charged to fix the problem and she said they call me as soon as the car is ready to pick up.
Finally she called me at 6:10 saying that sorry we just realize your water pump is gone and there was a mistake on the diagnosed. Now I have to pay $1300 to fix this problem!
I am pretty sure my thermostat was okay and no one is going to change the high speed relay since there is no circulation of water (that is funny)
I said okay but I need to talk to the manager regarding the miss diagnose and I would just pay $48.50 because the diagnosis was not completed and please remove the parts which you installed and put mine back to the place. Even Mike who was their mechanic (at the first) was admit that he made a mistake, anyway the ask me to come tomorrow and see Tony who is the general manager. It tokes whole my day to deal with the issue finally take the bus to go home!
On 2013-08-21 I was there at 9 am, was not easy to take the bus from my place to get there, however they said Tony didn't show up yet, I wait until 2 pm which I realized he is not coming so they asked me to come tomorrow anyway...very tired and so disappointed no choice but go bake to home and wait for another day. I waste my whole two days no car no answer and poor customer service
Finally today 2013-08-22 I was there at 9 am, but telling me Tony is sick is not coming today come back tomorrow, that was unacceptable, they were trying to making fun of me they don't care of the customer they treat me like thief, just playing with me. I said no I need to talk to someone responsible; they changed their word saying that we need to have to change the relay to realize the water pump problem; even other mechanic on the place told me you are right but you can not do anything.
However I said I want to stay here with my car until Mr. Tony shows up it is already three days I waste my time and my car has the same issue as first day and you guys ask me $480 to pay for your mistake.
They send a big guy with the tattoo was rude treat me that I need to leave the place right away which I said I spend 3 days and I have right to see Tony regarding the issue. So they called the police to kick me out. The two police were nice and polite no complain at all however i am going to take the issue to the court. It is not the money issue which is poor knowledge and they don't have enough skills as a mechanic.

e test
Took my car for the e test with the check engine ON to Canadian tire, they connect it to the reader and it did not pass due to "cooling system performance". They want 123.40 dollars for a "drive clean emissions test diagnostic " which is only done by pushing the bottom of errace code on the reader and take probably 5 minutes of their bussi time to see IF IT COMES BACK ON. So if you want to trow 162.95 (39.55 of their time plugin your car to the reader and123.40 on punching a bottom that errace the error code ) take your car to Canadian tire brantford or probabli any Canadian tire ..by the way the car had nothing just an error from God knows what!
Due diligence is going to cost you.!

Hi I have a bed experience to day I went to Canadian tire in Keswick. I want to switch over my tires yesterday and change the oil plus get a new from arms they told me take two hours to do the job, so I agree I was an hour there when the guy call me and said that the car can't be fix it that day only until next day it was inconvenient for me but I agree I when next day and I pay for the job. I expend almost $ 1000 dollars and they weren't even able to change the bags from the tires I switch over
the bags were dirty and wet and they reused those to put my other tires in, and then they put then into my car the top of the truck got dirty and wet because they didn't took the time put new bags now I have to take may car to wash I'm really disappointing poor customer service
cheat and incompetent technician
I took my car for a noise while driving. They told its the right front bearing and arm control. I said go a head and change it. The technician name was Stephane. He said te ABS sensor might break while changing the bearing it would need changing cost 250 bucks. Next day work is done, he could not "save" the ABS and had to be replaced. I did t complain. Took the car and drove it but the noise which i had brought in car for was still there. Took it back and Mr. Stephane took a test drive with me ( only now) he said the left bearing might be problem too. But again the ABS SENSOR might break.
I called NISSAN ( my car is nissan rogue 2008) they said u ABS HAS NOTHING TO DO THE BEARING. i took the car to a local garage they changed the bearing without even mentioning the ABS. After they have finished the job i asked them about it and they said why do u want to change the ABS
NOW ITS EITHER CANADIAN TIRE TECHNICIANS ARE DUMB STUPID AND INEXPERIENCED OR THEY DO SUCH THINGS in purpose AS THEY ARE COMMISSION BASED INCOME. TOTAL RIP OFFS.

tire change
I went to Canadian Tire Dix 30 at Brossard for tire change on Aug 25, 2013 for my BMW 323I, 1999, I told them do not need to check anything just tire change of 4, but they do not listen to me, the young kid technician checked my oil level and i was told by the serviceman of counter that there is only 1 litre of oil inside, and he put another 4 litres of engine oil. but I know my car and there is no leak and I just did check the oil level on the day before. So, I went inside the garage to check it by myself, the oil is totally overfilled.
then they drain and put new oil into the engine, after i got the key, i opened the hood and checked the level, but it is still missing 1 more liter, so i drove the car back and put another liter of oil. Bad experience.
we can tell:
the young technicians have not been well trained for the job. do not know how to read the oil leve.
They are not listening and not follow their customers.
Bad day for me Aug 25, 2013

I wouldn't recommend going Canadian Tire as they clearly thought that I would be willing to pay the $1000 which the repair shop next door said did not exist. I can only imagine how much they are charging others in their "fake" repairs. Just a warning to all of you if you are looking for an honest car repair shop.
I change only oil and tire change with them the past 3 years and never had problem until today. The problem Saturday, I recommend one of my best friend couple who just has their first car in their life time to go there even they live at Montreal island. Their car need oil change and 100 points inspection. They had the appointment on Sat at 9h00. So they left the car there and went shopping while waiting to hear what else they need to fix their car before winter after inspection. So around 2h00 pm, they went to see the garage after a few hours of shopping, and I decided to go there by bicycle to give them a hand. We were 4 Asian origin persons listening to the receptionist explaining us the breakdown. The guy said there are gasket oil leak on top and bottom needed to be fixed, arm suspension to be fixed, and with oil change and tire balance. We repeat the question 2 times on the overall estimate to assure the total estimate, we were told the sub totals about $600 + taxes... Remembered, we were 4, 2 of us have 2 master degree, one certified technical IT and one professional Technology Consultant listening to the receptionist person who explaining us the cost would be for their car. And he said we have to bring back the car tomorrow. So, my 3 friends slept at my house saturday night. We brought back the car on Sunday morning at 8h30 for the 9h00 am appointment. We waited until 3h00 pm Sunday for their call to get a call saying they don't have the right part. So we said ok, we would be back Monday to pick it up. And I dropped off my friend at Longueuil Metro. I told my friend to take the bus after work on Monday to my house in Brossard and I will take them to pick up their car. However, around 4h00pm today, Monday, the mechanic called me to say the car was ready, so I asked what was the total bill, he said around $1100. I was shock. So I explained to the Mechanic that this was way off from the estimate, and we were 4 to listen him and we are all fluently bilingual, so the mechanic said " let me get back to you" . He never called me back. So my friend arrived my house around 6h20 pm tonight, and we went to pick his wife at Metro Longueuil before going to pick up their car. So in my car, I was telling the call I got from the Mechanic, and they were very disappointed. Let's not judgemental and see the breakdown first, I told them in on our way, sure enough, it was $1, 100+. So, luckily it was the same guy who served us, and I verbally put all the cards on the table, we were 4 persons to hear your estimate last Saturday. We disagreed with you and we demanded to speak with the manager. After a few minutes of explanation, the manager agreed to discount $200. So instead of $1, 100+, my friend paid $928. It's better than $1, 100, but at least he reached out. Here is the lesson, always asked for an estimated print out. I do respect Mechanic work persons, but I hate unprofessionalism of the people at the reception who gave wrong expectation.
filipino are not allowed conversation using their own language with fellow filipino
Canadian Tire Yellowknife with 60% filipino employee (mostly contractors)... these policies is kinda discriminating... "During lunchbreak in the staff room, youre not allowed to speak other language except english or french" thats what general manager said...mostly filipino talk to fellow filipino use their own language so they can easily understand each other!lunch break ? i think its my

The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
That is absolutely wrong and definitely not legal. Shocking even. I would start with contacting the Cdn Tire head office.
actually that is illegal to force that and the manager can get fired over this.
An employer cannot dictate what language you can converse in DURING your break. While not on your break, that is a different issue.

charging me extra money
on Tuesday 27/11/2012, in canadian tire auto service which in calgery trail, edmonton, ab.
i refused to pay for car inspection in terms that i thought it was just a small problem in the bottom, there was a metal cover the exhausting pipe, just need to be tightened well, the person there who was in chage was v angery that i don't want to pay 20CAD, he teased me, after 5 min he gave me a list of parts needed to be replaced...he just made an inspection because the part which was loose was tighted by rope by me, was just as it is.and he charged me 65 CAD for a half an hour labour cost.
isn't it deceiving?
all records are in canadian tire and i have my reciept.
liers
I moved back to Canada after having a lot of difficulties in my life. I had to Export my car from the States. Canadian tire is one of the only places you can go to have it inspected to see if it's in good running order for the Canadian highways.Well the amount of things they said needed to be fixed was so high of a cost I decided not to Export it. I couldn't afford what they wanted and my car wasn't even worth that much. I recently had it checked out by two different other mechanics to see What they would charge. Guess what? Not one of those things was wrong with it! Canadian tire in Langford are liars and not to be trusted. The othe mechanics actually said my car was in good running shape, and only needed a oil change!
terrible customer service, stay away
Asked for information on Tassimo, the man didn’t know anything about them, then called for the person who looked after that department. A young girl who showed up named Karen also didn’t know, got a ladder, took a box and starting reading about it but when she was getting the ladder she kept sighing and then saying the word f***. There was no need for this, all she had to say that she didn’t know anything about them.Very rude young lady. I just walked out, not sure I’ll shop there anymore.
dumb mechanics and a complete rip-off
I was having trouble starting my 06 hyundai santa fe... I went to these monkeys who swore up and down that they had to do an avr test and that it was certainly my battery...
$300 later I had the exact same problem with the exact same noise and could not start the vehicle.
When I called for them to help me out considering I just spent that money on nothing, they said "o well bring it in and we'll see what we can do' ummm [censored]... I cant start it !
They were going to charge me $120 to tow it 10k to their shop - plus $220 plus tax for the part plus another $100 plus for the labor... So on top of the $300 I already spent on a mis-diagnosed issue, they wanted to charge me $500 on top of that to get to the actual problem... Total = $800
I found a mechanic who told me it was a starter issue, fixed it up done in 3 hours for $180 and it runs like a dream...
Now I know why they call it crappy tire and will protest their automotive ### with anyone who is even considering to go there

disrespectful treatment
A few weeks ago I went into the Canadian Tire store in Langford to buy some paint and while it was mixing I went to use their washroom. I was in a hurry - I had a date to get to and I had a dress to change into along with my handbag with make up and phone in it…
In the washroom, the floor was wet and strewn with toilet paper. I looked around for somewhere to hang my dress and handbag while I used the toilet and to my frustration there was no hook and no counter… the best I could do was balance the stuff on the end of a sink sticking out from the wall to keep it off the floor… I'm using the toilet, when to my horror I see that the faucet is running (automatic sensor had silently turned the tap on) and soaking my dress… I grab my dress and under it my handbag which in a matter of moments had filled with water.. and my wallet, makeup bag and worst of all my iPhone (6months old) are swimming in water… In dismay I am trying to empty the contents, but there is nowhere to put anything other than the sink… the floor gets soaked.. my dress is soaked, my iPhone is wrecked and I am distraught.
The phone, aside from all the personal content of contacts, photos etc, also had the address of where I was going to meet my date and his phone number… my evening was a total disaster… I couldn't change into the sopping dress… I was really really late because I was driving around looking for the place and I arrived distraught… that was the most expensive pot of paint I ever bought.
The next day (Monday) I thought I should tell them in Canadian Tire about the incident which, if they had only had a hook in he washroom would never have happened. I asked to speak to the manager of the store and was told he was off for the next two days.. so I spoke to some other floor manager. He said, oh, thats terrible, I'll get a hook put in there right away… and that I should come back on Wednesday to speak to the store manager.
On Wednesday I returned to the store… noted that no hook had yet been installed… and the Manager was not available. I eventually managed to speak with him on the phone later that day. He wasn't very sympathetic… he said, well, you have to accept some responsibility for the accident, you can't blame Canadian tire for putting your stuff in the sink.. but let me speak to the Owner and I'll get back to you on Friday… maybe we can help you with something towards the phone…
On Friday I didn't hear from him. I left a message towards the end of the day requesting that he call me. On Saturday and Sunday I also left messages, but heard nothing back. I assumed that Monday and Tuesday were his days off and on Wednesday went into the store to see if I could speak to him. I was told that Wednesday and Thursday were his days off… but maybe someone "upstairs" could talk to me instead. Eventually a lady came along and said the Manager had actually handed my case over to her to deal with and apparently she had left me a message the day before… (I checked and yes, she had, but it was so unclear, I had no idea who she was). She said that we needed to contact the head office in Toronto to see how to deal with this - that she would call them and I should also call them.. and she gave me the number. I took her into the washroom and enacted what and how events unfolded .. noting that there was STILL no hook in the washroom.. and pointing this out to her… and she said, yes, they needed to get a hook installed for sure….
The following day (Thursday), I called the head office in Toronto and detailed the incident and how distressing it was and how expensive it was for me as a single (sole) parent of 3 children and having returned to college, to cover the cost of a new iPhone, and how I would really really appreciate if Canadian Tire could help me with the cost of this… and that that was the least they could do, since really, my bag was wrecked, my wallet was still drying out, my receipts all washed out and my makeup in poor shape after the incident… The woman I spoke with said, of course, she understood my distress, and would get back to me by Friday after discussing with ..(whoever)…
On Friday someone from Head Office called and said they had reviewed the incident and felt no obligation whatsoever for the incident and that is the end of the discussion.
I was curious to see 3 or 4 weeks later if they had got around to the hook yet.. and once again there was still no hook. I thought I would write to the Owner and tell him that I was disappointed that Canadian Tire hadn't stepped up to help with the cost of the phone, but I was insulted that they had not put a hook in the bathroom after the incident.. that it really showed a disregard for the distress the incident had caused me and a disrespect for me showing that I didn't matter…. I went online to retrieve his contact information and there, on their website cover page it says FIRST THING…

There was no email address for him and I wanted this to be in writing. I called the store, but they would not provide me with a direct email for him… I had to go through the woman if the office I had dealt with before. I emailed him requesting that he contact me regarding a matter of concern that I would like to bring to his attention. I got a reply from him shortly after which said his staff had already filled him in with the incident and they felt there was no need for further consideration. I wrote back again, saying that I was writing about the HOOK and how it had not been installed yet.. and how insulting this was to me, and in the light of their claim on the website to care, could he please give me the courtesy of a reply and tell me how come no hook had been installed yet and how exactly they have shown me they 'care'. Naturally I have not had a reply. (I can forward you this correspondence).
I cannot tell you how rude I think this is, and that they really cannot claim to care after the shoddy treatment I have received… rude, insulting, inconsiderate and unsympathetic. I have been a customer at Candadian Tire for 15 years or more and have spend 10s of thousands of dollars in their stores… I had a farm business and house renovation business in Ontartio for many years with my husband (before his passing)… and we literally spent many many thousands of dollars in their store. I did tell this to the Langford store and the head office, that I have been a very good and long time customer… I really cannot believe that this is how they treat me.
I would really love to hear back from you with your opinion about this and to let me know if there is any course of action I can take… I really don't feel inclined to let them get away with this easily and consider them to be lying when they say they care.. false claims!
3 damaged rim
My father had his tires changed at the Canadian Tire in Oromocto, NB and had 3 of his rims damaged. One is dented, the other has been cracked and the 3rd has been scuffed.
When he brought this to the manager's attention the following day by going in to show the damage, the manager "Troy Frigon" asked to see his other tires to see if there would be any scuffs or paint that would show damage prior to having the tires changed, the tires were brought in and examined which showed no prior damage or hitting a curb as was suggested about the dent, in the meantime the manager also made calls to find out what the rims were worth and when he found out they cost $1, 000.00 for a set of 4 he called the owner "Garry Fitch" to brief him of the situation and the owner said that he would not approve of this and that there was no proof that this had been done during the tire change.
My father purchased his truck 2 months ago and his been shinning it everyday, therefore those damaged rims would have been noticed and brought back to the dealers. We also had the rims inspected by a mechanic who said that this damage was definitely made with the equipment used to change the tires and was able to show us how this could of happened, the marks line up perfectly.

I once bought a toaster and a lamp for my Canadian cottage at Canadian Tire. I had no idea they sold tires, eh?
liars who over charge
I just got back from taking my mom to pick up her van from Canadian Tire South in Red Deer Alberta.
Bit of a back story. My grandparents gave my mom their old van. My mom's was about to die and they bought a new truck. My grandpa took it in for an inspection in BC where they live and was told everything was fine. He gets the inspection done here in Alberta and walks out with a $1000 bill. Needless to say he was beyond angry. My mom then did not realize that it was only good for 14 days. 14 Days come and go and she realizes she needs to get it done again. She calls in two days ago and the guy tells her that they will charge her the cheaper price of $170 to get the inspection done. She takes the van in yesterday and she is told the same thing i regards to the price.
We go to pick it up last night and we are told it is $240. We explained the situation and what we were quoted at to which he tells us that it is a government regulated price (lie) and he can not do anything. He then told us we could come back today and talk to a manager.
We go back today and the manger tells us that he can not charge us less (lie) because of the type of vehicle we have. We asked why we were quoted both times at a lower price when they called up our information and looked at the vehicle type. All he said was "Well they should not have done that". He then goes into the account and tells us it is paid for. We are both confused because neither of us paid for it. We figured my grandpa might have called in and paid via credit card (he tends to do stuff like this). We told him MANY times that we did not pay for it. He then looks as the sheet and goes "Yeah see, the account and closed and it was paid for. I can not give you $60 back, but you can have a free oil change the next time you come in." we of course took it. He then tells us to take the paper work to the front, give them their copy, and then come back and get the keys.
We get up there and the girl tells us we have to pay. We told her that we were just told it was paid for. We go back to the manager of the auto department to figure out what is going on. He is in his office and it took 20 minutes for him to come out. We are standing there then entire time. When he does finally come out, he walks away from us. The other lady working stops him and says we are still waiting for him. He yells over to us and goes "No the account was just closed. You need to pay" and then walks into the shop and leaves us.
I can not believe these people. The manager couldn't care less about us, they lied to our faces abut not being able to lower the price, they then lied about it being paid already so he can not give us our money back, and then he makes us wait 20 minutes with out so much as an apology.
NEVER take your vehicle here!

rude
In merritt british columbia, I will never shop at this canadian tire ever again, I have never been treated with so much disrespect in my entire life by a so called store supervisor! Rude rude rude. And for the record, her name tag said sue. Thanks so much sue for ruining everyone's day. I think it's time to retire!
What did Sue do that you considered rude?
not honoring price on shelf
I went into a Canadian Tire gas outlet to buy power steering fluid. It was adverised on shelf as 5.99 but was charged 7.39. When I pointed out the mistake he told me to bad the price is in the computer and thats my problem. I suggested that they monitor there shelves for pricing better. He said not his problem. I asked to talk to the manager and he told me they were on holidays. I will never shop at Canadian Tire again which is also an inconvienence for me but would rather drive farther and hopefully get better service.
