terrible service
Mt daughter and I stopped in this afternoon to check out the next store. We picked up a few items, and when checking out, one of our items rang up at the wrong price, I notified the sales clerk and she stared at me dumbly like I was speaking in a foreign language. After a few moments, she said the item must have been in the wrong location. I finally told her that I did not want the item if she was not going to honor the sale price posted on the shelf, under the item. She called a supervisor over to void the item. This person was told that the item was marked on sale but ringing at full price, and she did not acknowledge me - simply voided the item, them grabbed it and walked away. Neither employee tried to verify the item was marked on sale. I can honestly say that even though this new store was put up a stone's throw from my house and would be hugely convenient, we won't be back.

I was a store mgr. For dg for over (2) years. I found a better paying job with better hours and worked a notice. I left the company in august. During the 2nd period (May, june, july) I earned a period bonus. I had also lowered the store's shrink percentage and earned a nice inventory bonus. These bonuses totaled almost $3, 000. Shocking update! Dollar general only pays out bonuses to employees who are employed when they feel like sending out the bonuses, not when you actually earn them. I received nothing for the 2nd period numbers that exceeded sales and customer goals and received nothing for the entire year that I worked with my staff improving inventory numbers in the store. Once again you give dollar general everything... They give you... Nothing.
I'm educated enough to know what bonus means sweet pea, I also know when I've done the work to earn one.
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
That's why I'm not even trying to leave my current place until after I receive my bonus in December. I know once I leave, I won't get it.
Sorry to hear they held out on you.
extremely rude workers, unprofessionally run business
I myself have worked retail for many years and am well aware of how things work. If a product is on a peg with matching product name and upc/sku number said product should be given at price labeled on peg. This however, is not the case at dollar general in harlan, ky. Instead of following proper policies we were rudely told over and over "it's on the wrong peg" and then she decides the mature thing to do is to stomp off and go look for herself and then come back and repeat "it's on the wrong peg". As if her attitude and rudeness weren't enough, at the other register another employee was doing nothing (Literally) while the line we were in was at least 10 customers long. As well as a non-employee standing at the registers visiting and eating. It takes a lot to turn me against a store, but the way this place is run did it for me.
It wasn't on the wrong peg...that's the whole point. I always check upc/sku numbers to make sure things are in the right place.

It's $ General... Bottom of the barrel ghetto.
poor customer service/refund policy
Last week, I purchased a door bell unit from a different retailer. Upon installing it, it required 3 "D" cell batteries which I do not have nor usually use around the house. I went and purchased 2 packs of 2 Energizer batteries for a total sale of $7.50. I went home and installed 3 of these batteries only to discover that the door bell did not work. I assumed that it was the door bell and not the batteries so I returned the door bell to the retailer and did not exchange it for another as I was not satisified with the unit and wanted no more of them. I then placed the batteries back into their packages and taped them closed (for all I know, the batteries could have been defective and not the bell unit). I then went to Dollar General and asked for a refund, as I had the receipt for the purchase. I told my story to the cashier and she was very friendly and understanding. She then called her male manager and he came to the register and I explained my story to him. He immediately refused the refund and told me that batteries could not be returned and asked me if I would purchase a package that had been taped shut and I told him that I had purchased merchandise that had been previously opened from other retailers. He then became loud and verbally aggressive and continually argued and refused my refund request. I then asked to see the Dollar General refund policy and he directed me to a different register so that I could read the sign, telling me that I had to move so that other customers could check out as the line was backing up. I then read the policy and no mention was made about refunds of batteries and I questioned him, he still was loud in front of the other customers and told me that they are considered as electronics and that all store items can not be listed exactly in the policy. I then asked for his customer service number and he aggressively directed me go online to the Dollar General website and voice my complaint. I then went home and did so and it is now 4 days without their response. I guess that they don't care about their customers and I'll shop at Dollar Tree or Family Dollar instead. Hope everyone else hears this and does as well!
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
I work at dollar general and the policy is no returns on electronics. if they did that do you know how many people would be bringing back batteries after they used them, we have done a few exchanges here and there but not a complete refund. i not saying your batteries was good cuz i had bought some myself that were bad and just took a lose, i suggest check the date on the batteries before you buy them.
Mold
A recently opened and refrigerated jar of Clover Valley stuffed green olives has a layer of mold on top. I called Dollar General yesterday and reported it and the person I spoke with told me that someone from Clover Valley would call me and I should keep my line open. That was approximately 1:30 pm. No one has called and I doubt that anyone will until at least next Mon. Fine. But she should have told me that. Leave my line open? Are you kidding? That, plus the fact that neither Dollar General, which sells Clover Valley products, nor Clover Valley make it easy to send them a complaint. Easy? Maybe I should say impossible. Very unhappy with both complanies.
You could have taken the molded olives back to dollar general with your receipt and they would have exchanged them or given you your money back.

I'm a loyal customer to dollar general for many years. I watched as they built the store. I could not wait until the opening of the store. I have always been very kind to the employees and I seen many come and go. Also I seen many management changes. But I always shopped at this dallor general store #9274. Today I was approached by clay the asst. Mgmt. And was told to go out and leave my purse. I complied with the request and returned with a very small change pocket. He came to me in the store and said a skinny black lady was in the store earlier with a big purse and when she left the store it appeared to be full. I just looked and thought what does that have to do with me? I went to check out and had to go back out to get my wallet and checkbook. I did not get to use my coupons. I turned to all of the people behind me and several other women had very large purses and mine is a medium size. This action was not only embarrasing but was abusive and discrimination against me for no reason that I could think of. My purse is a medium size and half the time do not even bring it in unless I have a large list of items and coupons to use. I went out to my purse in the car 3 times to get checked out. Clay had left and I called crystal to get the phone number to corprate she added nothing could be done until virginia comes back from vacation. I'm very disappointed and hurt to have been treated in this abusive manner. They say he discriminated against me and it is a small store in a small community and if this treatment continues it could close the store #274
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
Do you know what it feels like to be discriminated against, on a job, using transportation to and from your home, and to have people around you know more about you because of heresay than you do yourself? Also, to have a job but knowing that you are not supposed to be working or earning a living to make do with the essentials in life, created numerous problems for me and my family. I left granite city because i was a witness along with my son, at injustice dealt out to a man attempting to protect his girlfriend and her two children from an ex-con who kept switching off their power even when the alarm had been set to get them up for school the next day. This man had been told to not call the granite city p.d. Because he would be arrested even though he had a legitimate claim. He had been beatened in a jail cell by four p.d. Officers who kicked, punched and assaulted him in the cell after his girlfriend made the call, not he. As a result, and because of other claims that we (my family) was and is troublemakers too, we have been subjected to harassment and other innuendoes about returning back to granite city. Why should we subject ourselves to more abuse and additional stress. We have been trying to better our lives but have been denied our right to further our goals. My son was denied his ged completion because the person scheduled to pick him up, failed to do so. We moved here, where he wants to attend school to complete his education and get a better paying job. Instead, he has been denied this privilege. How can he get a job if no one is willing to give him the chance? He is in a shelter where he has been for over a year, and he feels harassment on a day-to-day basis as i do, and we have been made to feel that when a law enforcement person is shot or killed, that we are somehow held accountable. Today, i went to pick my son up from the shelter, and we were harassed on our way to my apartment where my son stays until it is time to go back. So many people have commented on what to us is considered the past, but yet we still here that we should return to granite city; i to a man who followed me to alton, commandeered a bi-state bus to fairview heights so as to follow me there, followed me into the central west end, and where i worked, lived and shopped. This man lied under oath because he had help from people who had believed that he had been telling the truth. What about his old flame who he was dating at the same time he had been following me? How else did she know where i was unless he told her? This was part of the reason i left. So much wrongdoing there and harassment continues to this day. A man should not be beatened for protecting his girlfriend and her two kids from a bully. She had been diabetic and pushed against a telephone pole and knocked unconscious. Where do compassion and understanding of wrongdoings dealt to them begin especially two innocent children? Would you have wanted all of this to happen to you?
Discrimination? Really?
Zachary S. stay off this site, you admitted in another letter that you are 12 years old. What's a 12 year old doing on this site?
Yeah, and they assume because I am black my whole family are thieves. My daughter also had discrimination. She was asked to leave her bag the floor because she is black and a teenager and because six months prior she was stealing from them. She learned her lesson. On that day when she was accused asked to leave her bag on the floor she had money with her, and her I make $20 an hour. What reason does she have to steal?
You see another person experienced discrimination in the store as my daughter and I did.because she was black and was asked to take her bag out of the car by the same manager who did this to my daughter. For those who complained I typed all in caps before, now this is not all in caps is it. I wanted to write in caps but because you people are dumb I wrote this proper,

My friend and I was just in this store getting food and other stuff. When my friend was tellin me about the manager being rude to her sister the day before, well that manager vicky was over hearing us talking and came around the corner and started being rude w / us and we told her we was not talking to you so their was no need to be so rude to us. forced out
Never work for a company that thinks more of the $ than the people and there family that work for them. I worked for them for five years and was forced out because my rm said I had to much tragedy in my family. Two sons both killed in car wrecks one in 2006 and the other in 2009
WOW YOU ARE SO RIGHT, NOW IT IS LET GO, THANKS
I KNOW THAT DOLLAR GENERAL IS A BUSINESS TO MAKE MONEY, SO PLEASE LET ME CLEAR A FEW THINGS UP. NUMBER ONE WHO WOULD MAKE UP TWO SONS AND A MOTHER BEING KILLED THAT WOULD BE SICK. AND I DID TAKE A FMLA AFTER MY OLDEST SON WAS KILLED, I DID NOT TAKE ALOT OF TIME OFF FROM WORK AND DID NOT NEED MORE. DIDNT KNOW THAT THE WORLD WAS SUCH A HATEFUL PLACE BUT FOR ALL THAT MADE THE COMMENTS ABOUT WHAT I WROTE NOT BEING TRUE, I KNOW YOUR KIND THOSE ARE THE TRUE ### KISS OF LIFE AND I DO HAVE A LAWYER. AND I ALREADY HAVE A BETTER JOB, MORE MONEY AND LESS STRESS

Is there not a law called the FAMILY MEDICAL LEAVE ACT LAW? Sadly, businesses do put the money first. I lost a son in 2009, but fortunately, my employer was there for me every step of the way.
You can just create a new account, but facebook is very difficult to get a hold of.
truck driver drinking
I, or anyone in the pac a sac on hollywood in amarillo just didnt care for the personality of the skinny black truck driver and his large black wife buying a case of beer and 2 sixpacks also and it says dollar general on the trailer, and this is saterday night at 8 pm, so if you care, do something, if you dont, thats fine, since no one really does crap that is their job to do anyway

MYOB! You really need to improve your spelling, grammar and punctuation. The commas do not add emphasis.
"I was in the Pac and Sac (sic) on Hollywood in Amarillo, and along with everyone else, did not care for the personality of the skinny black truck driver and his large wife. He was driving a Dollar General truck and buying a case of beer and two six packs on Saturday night at 8pm. I believe you should do something about this as it is inappropriate and dangerous for a representative of your company to drink and drive. I am writing to let you know about this atrocity and hope that your company will care enough to discipline the driver. However, I am doubtful as you do not have a good record of responding to customer complaints."
This is my version of your complaint. I have tried to keep the original spirit of the complaint with some adjustments and have left some errors in there. Try sending this to Dollar General.

I recently went into our local Dollar General Store in Giddings, Texas and did not like the new girl that they hired as assistant manager there. She was very rude to me and very slow on checking people out. She rolled her eyes when I told her that I had something to return and said something under her breathe about dumb white people, and when I asked her to repeat herself she said she didnt say anything. But I know what I heard and I didnt appreciate it a bit. The new manager that recently took over the store was doing just fine until this girl came along, even though she was still learning the ropes. Why they gave her such a rude person to "help" her is beyond me, but she sure isnt worth it. Get rid of the bad one before you loose more customers.

I have been in the local General Dollar store in Chandler Indiana twice with three weeks between, they have the same packages of ribs that have been expired since 10/5/2013 Both times I have pointed it out and both times I was told, well check on it and second, I'm showing it to the delivery person when they come in. Really, and they apparent don't know that it's against the law to sell expired food.
I was happy for the family dollar to have some competition but now I'm Leary if the store in general.
There were also crushed cans of tomato soup on the first trip. I didn't buy any because of this. The second trip I checked on the soup and some of them had been sold but still crushed can for sale.
These managers are messing up and when someone gets sick and they get sued, they will have to close. I'm just pissed.
hiiring family members
I was hire on feb 19, 2002 work for 6 half years at different stores until I transfer from dollar general 2301reeves st dothan alabama 36303. To dollar general 185 old hwy 134 daleville 36322. I knew the manager due the fact we went to school together. Who name is evenly dixion who nick name is dannett. She had her niece workin for her the reason why they did not know because the niece use her marry name knight instead of her mother name who last name is dixion which is her sister. There were compliants but no one never check it out. But to make along stories short. One of my old manager wanted to hire me back on. She could not due the fact she put down not too rehire. I'm just findin this out after two years. I talk to the area manager he said that I didn't show up for work. But I won my case for unemployment she could have block that, because that sayin work was availble but she did not was present for the phone interve. But who would want to run your company some one who can use it to there advantage. Some that is willin too work.

Tammy decide to do a no call; no show; no fault to the manager, Look in the mirror and point fingers at yourself. if you have worked for Dollar General for a length of time you should understand the policies.the manager was just doing her job.(like Tammy should have been) she would still be with the company. and not in the compliant section.
death of pet due to food
We recently purchased the Everpet brand dogfood for our dog, who up to that point was happy and healthy. We began to feed it to our dog and within just a few days he began to get very sick. He got so sick that the following morning when we woke up we found him dead with several spots of blood, as well as him bleeding from his mouth. The vet said, without doing expensive test to be fore sure, that bleeding from the mouth is typically caused by either an organ shutdown or by poisoning, but that she would lean towards poisoning seeing how the dog was healthy. We are currently in the process of having the food tested but are also contacting the company for some results in releaving the situation. It looks like their food is poisoning ALOT of people's pets and something needs to be done about it.
I am sorry to hear about your little one. I lost mine last year due to the everpet dry food and just hope to get the word out so others dont have to go through loosing a loved pet. If there is anything I can do to help let me know.
My dog was close to the same thing after 1 bowl of everpet moist beef and cheddar (like moist and meaty) dog food. I'm working on tests on the food and a law suit as well.
treated rudely, humiliated
On saturday, 6/26/2011 2;30 pm, I was at the register in the dollar general, galeton, pa having trouble with the credit/debit card machine yet again! This is an ongoing problem w/the card swipe equipment. As im pulling out different cards to pay for my purchase. Im so embarrassed since people are on line behind me and the line is growing. Finally a card works and im talking to the cashier about why the card I just paid with got declined the 2 previous swipes. Along w/ 2 different debit cards, all visa. As I continue to load my cart w/bags a different cashier, who was not helping other customers by opening the other register, started to tell me, loudly, that I need to do something about my cards because I always hold up the line... Bla bla bla... Everyone was looking at her as she chastised me like I do it deliberately! She was addressing others on the line like I wasn't even there! I just wanted to crawl out! Well there is always someone on line that has card problems every time im there! My cards are always paid off and are always swiped with more then enough money to pay! I even use debit and I know dam well I have the money in the bank to pay! I shop there 5 days a week and this happens at least 3 out of 5 trips! My so, husband and I just purchased the local pharmacy and I can assure all my customers that no one will ever be treated and/or humiliated like a 3rd class citizen looking for a handout at our drug store!
P. S. There is never a problem at any other stores, food stores, sears, loews... Etc... With my cards.
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
I think that's very rude! If it happens frequently, it sounds like a problem with the card reading machine or the employees operating them. I would speak to a supervisor or something, that's definitely not okay.
unprofessional/poor customer svc by store manager, darryl.
On june 24, 2011, I purchased approximately $50.00 of items at the dollar general in knightdale, n. C. I was buying some various items for a belated father's day gift. I purchased an "as seen on tv" item—a nondestructive, waterproof wallet. It retailed for $10.99. Upon returning home, I realized that the packaging was taped and the item had been previously opened. Since this was a gift, I preferred a package that had not been tampered with. I returned to the store approximately 1 hour later. I approached the cashier who had checked me out and explained the situation. She then called the so-called store manager, darryl. I originally had preferred to swith the opened package for an unopened one. When the manager got to the register, I explained the situation. The manager, darryl seemed extremely bothered and accused me of opening the package. I explained the situation and he still did not believe me so I then requested a full refund for the product. Darryl, store manager, said in an extremely sarcastic tone "so "you" didn't open the package, in a very accusatory tone. He said that several times, an I continued to explain that it was like that upon returning home and opening the bag of items purchased. This made me extremely angry and I sugggested to the store manager, darryl that if he did not believe me, he should pull his security camera and watch what I took off the shelf if he was going to continue to accuse me of lying to him. This was all carried out in front of a line of approximately 5 persons. He embarrassed me and angered me severely as he was so extremely sarcastic and accusatory.
Several years ago I once had a return for a damp mop that had a metal handle. After using the item for approximately 20 minutes, it bent in half exposing a very jagged metal edge. I almost sliced my hand severely. I had purchased that item approximately 2 hours before this happened. I returned to the dollar generaal store in knightdale, n. C. To return the defective item which only retailed for approximately $8.99. , darryl, store manager refused my return, said " I " broke it and would no accept the return. I then contacted the manager's immediate supervisor, mike moore. Mr. Moore stated that the corporation had just sent out information on returning items and darryl, store manager, he had not followed proper standard operating procedure. That has recently been reinterated by company management protocol and this information was given at that time to store manager, darryl. Mr. Moore asked me to again take the mop back to the store and the manager, darryl would "gladly" accept the item for refund. It seems that if the manager, has to do a void, or is called to help a customer, it bothers him intently. This occurs all the time. I chose at that time never to return to a dollar general store due to this first incident but did continue to shop there for some particular items due to price. The store manager, darryl, in knightdale, n. C. Severely lacks any customer service skills or store loyalty. I will contact all administration associates with dollar general and give a recount of this extremely uneccisary, rude treatment by this manager.
I have proudly been employed by the home depot corporation for 12 years as of sept. 2011. We realize that the customer is the most important, they pay our salary, and continue to recommend the home depot to others. We, at the home depot are extremely disciplined in customer service and our corporate strategy has definitely, without question, proved to be extremely successful. We know to treat customers with the utmost respect no matter the situation. I have been truly shocked by the treatment by this manager, on many occasions. If any of my fellow associates or store managers. Or assistant managers, or department supervisors, or treated our loyal customers in the fashion that this manager, darryl at knightdale nc, we (No matter which position) would be terminated immediately. I have seen the many complaints about management with the dollar general and am know amongst those who have commented on this extremely unprofessional, annoyed, distasteful manager, darryl, dollar general, knightdale n. C. Thank you for allowing me to express my discontent. I truly hope that this information reaches the appropriate dollar general management executive and addressed in an expeditious and severe manner. This cannot be allowed to continue. - karen m kalas

I too have recieved poor service from the dollar general management in Dothan Alabama attempting to return merchandise to the store. The dollar store management are the least professional people ive ever encountered in my life and their actions certainly wouldnt be tolerated in any other customer service atmosphere. I serve tables for a living so I understand completely how important it is that the customers are treated with the respect that they deserve. I wish there was a way to actually let someone in higher authority be alerted when management at one of their stores was setting a dark outlook on the dollar general name but im not even sure they would truly be concerned. Pissed off in dothan!
