I have been in that store this week and everytime it has been a mess. Ido a lot of business there and this is the worst I have every seen it. If they do not have enough help hire more or the best solution would be to stay after hours and clean it up. You are going to lose your business. Thank you joanne quinn

I worked for Dollar General for over two years. All I wanted was to work part-time, a few hours a week to get out of the house. To make things short I ended up working full time and becoming Asst. Mgr in 6 months! I really enjoyed working there, up until the last six months. My mother became sick (lives in Germany) so I needed to go back there a few times in the last six months, DG was very understanding and let me go, with unpaid vacation and letting me return to my job when I came back (VERY THANKFULL!). Two weeks ago, my manager had a store meeting (all 4 of us) and was YELLING and SCREAMING at the top of her lungs on how SHE screwed things up in the store, by not doing what the District Manager told her to do, AND THAT IT WAS OUR FAULT! Funny, she screwed up, but it was our fault. We only did what SHE told us to do. At the time of the meeting we had quite a few customers in the store, who in turn was shocked at the yelling and screaming going on. Not only were they shocked but we were shocked also. Every Friday we have a conference call with our District Manager, (Richard Luce) for Asst.Managers and Third Key holders if the Assistant Manager is not present that day. The third Key holder (Jerry) came up to me and said the conference call is going to start, I said, " you do it today, I'm to upset to take part in it." He in turn told the Yelling and Screaming Manager, came back out and told me to got ahead and go home. Now, this was at 2 pm and my shift was over at 3:30 pm. So, I went home. The next day, I went to work at 0730 am, our manager was there she said "here is your right-up for not taking part in the conference call." I looked at her and said "you know what, all I said yesterday is that, you don't have to yell and scream at us, we are all adults here, you told us how you wanted to run the store, we did what you told us to do. "I have told you before, that I don't need this job, don't need to be treated like an idiot (if anybody knows anything about Germany, then they know people are trained for over two years in there profession they choose) here are your keys, I quit." She sat there, shocked and I walked out the door. I then told my husband about what happened, he said call the District Manager and tell him what happened, get your side of the story in, there's no telling what your manager will tell him. He had always told you, let me know if you are having any problems or need help with anything. I tried calling my District Manager, several times, leaving voicemails to please contact me, which he never did. I will NEVER, NEVER, NEVER, EVER, set foot in another Dollar General Store. I have enough "dirt" on my manager to get her fired 10 times over. I won't do that, because thats not who I am. It is unbelievable, how a National chain of stores can treat there employees like Dollar General does. Iike I said, I will NEVER EVER SHOP THERE AGAIN.
You are correct "impudent1". The meetings are not optional, EXCEPT we were and have been told if the asst mgr and the third key are working, during that time, one or the other may attend or both. That is what our MANAGER told us. I am 52 yrs old and expect to be treated as an adult, I have earned that right. I have worked in retail since I was 14 years old and have NEVER been treated like this in any of my years working. Thank you Kimberly for sticking by what I have said, some people are blind by what DG tells them and believes everything that they say, to me it is a form of "brainwashing."

I'm sorry that you went thru that i am also a former employee of DG in San Antonio, Texas. Richard Luce was also my DM. I have to say I loved my job there and i'm glad to say I am returning to work there soon. I also had some family issues at the time with the loss of my brother. I did not return to work from then on. I am thankful that they gave me my job back. As for Richard Luce to me he was a great DM and have no complaints. You can't say that Dollar General treated you wrong. A person treated you wrong; that I do agree with a Manager should keep it at a professional level. That was very un-professional. The golden rule has always been and always will be treat people the way you would like to be treated.
rude management
I went into Dollar general to pick up a few things. When I got to the register I noticed a few items rang up for more than the price they were marked on the shelf. When I spoke to a member of management about it, her name was Chauntel, she told me that the tags were wrong and should have been changed a long time ago. She then refused to change the prices for me saying that I should have noticed the dates on the shelf stickers were several years old. Isnt that the store management's job? This store in Leesville has gotten ridiculous in the last year
I visited the Dollar General Store in Merkel, TX on Friday May 31, 2010 around 6:15. Upon entering the store I noticed a large cart of cases of Dr. Pepper, Mt. Dew, and Pepsi with a sign posted $6. I went in and picked up some laundry detergent and fabric softner. Then I went to check out and asked the cashier if the $6 posted was for the case. She said yes. I then said I will go ahead and get a case of Mt. Dew and a case of Dr. Pepper. We brought them inside and they rang up $2. Immediately the cashier seemed flustered and requested management. The manager then appeared and I can not even begin to describe how rude she was. She started punching hard & vigerously on the key board complaining about how they shouldn't have posted the sign because the sale hasn't started yet. She never once spoke directly to me or apologized for the mistake only complaining to the cashier about how it wasn't her fault. She then demanded the cashier to go and take down the sign becase she WAS NOT going to go through this again. She was rude and hateful through this whole transaction. She made me feel as though it was my fault that the item did not ring up what the sign had posted. With a growing line waiting, I left the store feeling extremely humiliated and WILL NOT be returning. We have a Family Dollar in town and I will start driving the extra couple of blocks to visit that store. Furthermore I am very active and well known in the community and I will certainly pass this experience on to many of my friends. I was once in retail management and the one thing I learned was word of mouth advertising is the best form of advertising, therefore you always want your customer to have a good experience because more people will talk about the bad than the good. The cashier did say she was sorry for the wait as I was walking through the door to the next person in line maybe she got better service since she didn't have any cases of soda.
Every store that I have worked at the general policy was to give the customer the advertised price and then take the sign down (as long as the price mistake isn't something ridiculous that isn't plausible). I'm surprised they wouldn't do that for you as long as you weren't trying to take advantage of it.
Just scornfully swat that malevolent green fly.
That often invites”[censor]ers” (people with different points of view) to “sniff the poop saved in its crack”
Nauseating.
Incase you didn't read my entire story I DID work retail for almost 7 years. I worked in retail management for over 5 of that. Then was a waitress for 5 years prior to that. I have worked in the public for many years and I would have never behaved that way in front of a customer. And I would have never made the customer feel it was their fault I was having to fix an issue. That was the first time the issue was dealt with because they were surprised about it and yes I was and am still due some sort of apology for the behavior displayed in my presence. You should never discuss issues like that infront of customers. That is the problem with this world today, very little respect and no customer service just always looking for someone else to blame. Any and all conversation while waiting on a customer IS the customer's business. Just another reason I prefer to shop online for most things and do away with jobs for rude people like you and the manager I dealt with.
requested days off
Given plentiful time in advance for day off for testing ordered by doctor and did not get it...Pretty cold of a company to ask this from their employees.
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
Apparently turning in a school schedule in advance does nothing for you either. Attending school and submit the schedule months in advance, and then they schedule during class hours.
I had a similar occurence. I requested a day off one month in advance to have two teeth filled at the dentist. I verbally submitted my request as well as posting it on the calender for days off. I was scheduled to work, when i confronted my manager she replied " i dont have to give it to you "! Thanks to another employee I was able to keep my appointment since he filled in for me. What kind of management is that, Ill tell ya. She decided to take that same day off, in this case it wasnt first come first serve. I havent felt the same about the job that I love every since. I feel very deceived and wonder who to trust now.
bird feeder
I bought a bird feeder from Dollar General. It just fell apart. I stoped by one day & showed them to a manager on duty. They were falling apart sitting on shelf & had not been removed. I has toldto bring it back & exchange it for something else. I took it in today, but ended up leaving w/ the junk. The manager on duty would not take it back & treated me like some fool. Unless this is taken care of I will not go back to any Dollar General.

deceptive sale prices
When shopping last Saturday around 2:00 in the afternoon I purchased cherry pie filling with a sale tag of $2. I then got to the register and saw 2 litre Coke on sale for $1. When my purchases were being rung up I noticed that the clerk had charged # 2.25 for the pie filling. He said "Was it a tag like that? (Pointing to the soda stack) I said "Yes" to...

Dollar General is trying to use me as a scape goat for their lack of security at the store at which I was employed. I was an employee there less than six weeks. While working there I can recall a few incidents of customers stealing. When this occurred I responded and reacted as I was trained. I immediately attempted to alert the on duty store manager. The Managers' response was lackadaisical or none at all. As the only employee on duty and having the cash register responsibility with no security guard at the store, there is not much an employee can do. I alerted the Managers and they did nothing. Each time there was a theft while I was working there I alerted the Manager and received no response. Currently Dollar General i maintaining that I was in some type of conspiracy to steal over $40, 000 worth of merchandise from their store. This is absolutely ludicrous. I even cooperated with them to tell them the people I knew who were involved. Dollar General is maintaining that I am responsible for losses incurred at that store even before I started working there. I was a good employee, enjoyed the time I was there and was loyal to Dollar General. I would think to get that much merchandise I would have to back up an 18 wheeler to the store and load it up to get that much merchandise. I am unemployed and have three kids I will not go to jail for something i didnt do. Dollar General picked me to blame because their store is located in a high crime area, they do not have adequate security and they thought I was weak and they could use me as a scapegoat. I truly believe that the store GM interrogated me like I was a criminal when i was the victim. I was mis-treated and talked to like I was a criminal. Even the investigating police officer was not forthright. I attempted to contact them many times to no avail to try to assist in this case. In the end I am being charged with felony theft while they have absolutely no evidence. As I stated in my opening I am being made a scapegoat due to the lack of security. This appears to be an insurance scam. I have done absolutly nothing wrong and will fight till I am fully acquitted. I am planning on suing Dollar General for defamation of Character. I will keep readers of this board informed .
I was a store manager and was tranfered to a new store. When i arrived the change fund was short. I admit I did not inform the DM, but i was told that the DM didn't like to micromanage, so i took that as i needed to handle it in house. I was gathering the evidence i needed, and was sent to management school. I was in school and the DM came into the store, and found that the change fund was short. I was called and interigated about where the money was. The next day i was pulled from class interigated by and LP and suspended pending investigation, I was terminated a few days later. I have yet to be paid what i worked. no explinations.
Get a lawyer to get the security tapes.
I work in a store where our former 3rd keyholder was stealing massively stealing. She supposedly would have her boyfriend come in, fill up several of our large dark plastic totes with expensive inventory and then return all the items later in her shift, WITH NO RECEIPT FOR CASH! Our manager never noticed this! Our DM, after seeig=ng our communication board and the sales vs %returned board was very very high for 2 weeks straight, (over 500.00 in 3 days Im told!) she came and veiwed the cameras and say everything! To this day, our Store Manager still says it wasnt the girls fault, it was the drugs her boyfriend was addicted to! I dont see how someone else being addicted to drugs has anything to do with someone both consciously stealing AND fraudulently returning items!
racial harrassment and discrimination
I would like to express my deep concerns about an apparent racial harassment incident that occurred at Dollar General, 2884 New Cut Road, Spartanburg, South Carolina 29303. My son was employed at this location for approximately one year and developed a good rapport with the customers and store management. After the store manager (the person who hired him) retired, he experienced extreme harassment under the new management: (1) He was monitored under excessive surveillance, (2) The store manager communicated to him in a very disrespectful and demeaning manner, (3) He was denied time off and threatened to be fired when he called in sick for the first time while other employees were granted release time under less stringent circumstances. This harassment reached a climax on Tuesday, April 19, 2011 when he reported to work and was asked to take a call from the District Manager. The District Manager informed him that he needed to attend an employee training session that should have been scheduled by the prior store manager. My son informed her that the scheduled date and time for this training conflicted with his current college class schedule. With a total disregard to his class schedule, the District Manager told him that if he failed to attend he would be demoted from his current position to a cashier which required him to turn in his store keys. My son was quite upset at the response, turned in his keys and quit his job. After I learned about this incident, I call and spoke to the store manager and she confirmed my suspicions about this matter—a clear indication of undercover racial harassment on the job. She stated that the former store manager operated the store in the same manner he operated a former business that he owned but this will be changed under the new management. I requested the name and telephone number of the District Manager but was denied. I am PRAYERFULLY awaiting a call from the District Manager but in the meantime I wanted to share this story and alert the public that racial harassment and discrimination is still infecting our workplace. I also encourage and challenge those who experience such cruel and unjust treatment to speak out and let your voice be heard—even if it is a small matter.

rude inept management
The acting store manager is rude, verbally abusive to customers. She has no experience at making schedules. Her cashiers regularly have to stay past their scheduled hours because she refuses to work register and wont count down a cashiers drawer until they are already late leaving. The store looks terrible cuz she wont stock freight. Prices are wrong all throughout tje store because she doesnt do price changes. Planograms are way behind.
I WAS A CASHIER IN A BUSY STORE.

EVENTS LEADING UP TO TERMINATION.
Assst. Manager Randall Mcgee...
Harassment and abuse of his authority to intimidate employees
Demeaning to personnel in from of customers.
Manager Cindy always sided with Randall.
I never missed a day, or late, I filled when others called out & even went to other stores
I had excellent customer relations.
5/23 Manager Cindy told me to remove Easter items from shelves and move to front
Randall he had just done that shelve; I advised him I was doing what Cindy told me to do.
At that point with customers by, He told me I had an attitude, I differed his opinion
And he said could not work with someone like me... I walked away
I knew then, that it was only a matter of time before my job would end.
4/19 critized my recovery at closing time.
I was setting down at 10.25… told me if I could not see what was wrong, he was not going to show me.
I spoke with another asst. manager Caroline about him, was told need to go to Cindy
I didn’t...
4/28 I was told Thursday my drawer was over 17.36
I could not explain at the time, just that it’s so busy and no extra help or relieve
4/28 I was told my drawer was over again 6.22
Also told could not break in afternoon... (This rule didn’t seem to apply to others)
Advised my purse had to be in back of store (another rule that was not applies to others)
4/29 Friday. I arrived at store I was told that I would do stock
I was happy... Cindy & Randall were on registers.
After lunch break I was given a drawer.
I advised Cindy after several transactions something was not right that he kept telling me cash pickup... told don’t worry about it.
4/30 arrived at work went to Cindy, and was told my Drawer was 20.08 short.
I told her that it was impossible...
I spoke of my disagreement with Randall.
Another employee was also fired for the same thing in March. Always $20 short.
And its there word again employee
During all this no schedule was posted for the next week. My termationation was planned
My drawer was shorted after I exit.

i was cursed out by the cashier!
jamie ray (maiden name) was cashier, she has problems with me because i date a man that she use to like.( i know it's silly) well i went in store on april 12th with my 5 yr old and my 2 yr old to buy diapers when i got to the register to check out she told me girl i am going to stomp your ### ###! i couldnt believe she was saying this to me in front of my children, i told her she needs to watch her mouth in front of my children .that didnt matter to her though she preceede to curse me and say that is why i brought them with me to protect me. really this is so sad that good honest people needs jobs and cant get one and people like her can. this is horrible and unaccetable she needs to be fired! i know alot of people and my parents (mom) spends lots of money in there (thousands) and if she remains in that store im sure alot of buisness will be lost.

wow! I cant believe she did that in front of your girls! Some people dont have any respect any more! I think she should be fired. Best believe I wont be going in there any more. My mom already doesnt shop in there any more because they treated her so bad about a phone card!
begging customers for their change.
I advise everyone in the Decatur area that shop @ any Dollar General to say "NO" when the employees or managers ask for you to donate to Literacy. For over 2 years they have not proved that the money stays local or that any schools here in Decatur recieved anything new. They have yelled at me on a daily basis and threatened to write me up if my container was not full. The money has to be pocketed for this to be that serious over other peoples money. Its a donation which means if the customer wants to donate. Something needs to be done about this. Dollar General has not donated to ST. JUDE or AUTISM as long as Literacy.
I know for a fact that Dollar General gives the money collectes to Literacy programs . They just have to apply for a grant. The Literacy program in my town recieved a $5000 grant. You need to be sure of your fact before you slander a very good program such as this. Shame on you!

treatment of employees
As a customer or should I say former customer of Dollar General, I can say it is the worst place I have ever seen as far a treatment of employees goes. I was shopping in conway the dollar general close to 501 business I had my grandson and my daughter with me a man was shop lifting in there. My complaint is the manager and a worker or maybe another manager not sure they approached the man and demanded what he stole I was right there and so was my grandson the man was stealing laundry soap and maybe other things none the less my complaint is I cannot believe that they put me and and my family not to mention everyone else in the store at risk of maybe getting shot or knifed all over a 5 dollar bottle of Gain. I am appauled byt this I have always been taught anywhere I have worked to never approach a shop lifter I am the man dropped it and ran out but he could have had a gun a knife or been violent. and that to me is not the proper way to handle the situation. I confronted them about it in ohter words my life my grandson and my daughters life and anyone else in the store life is worth alot more then a bottle of gain I think that they handle it carelessly and inapproapriate LEt the man have the soap times are hard he must have needed it and surely more then Dollar General needs it. TICKED OFF about this craiziness I cannot believe this anywhere i have ever worked or been NO ONE CONFRONTS A SHOP LIFTER I could think of ways it could have been handled far better then this no 5 dollar thing is worth anyones life or risk of being hurt. obviously the man was trying to get it for his family and probally did not have the money who knows I say let him have the soap and let God deal with it times are tough but not worth a possible life for a 5 dollars bottle of laundry soap

You have really never worked at a place that had a 'no shoplifting' policy?!? How can expect a business to profit if they allow their products to be stolen? You, are an idiot. We live in the real world and experiences are not always pleasant... if you have grandkids you should know that by now! You happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time, and saw something that offended your naive little eyes, I see absolutely no fault of the cashier or store. She was protecting their assets, that's what she was hired to do!
rude
I walked into dollar general to return the coffee pot I had bought a week ago because it broke. Lady said she couldnt return it because I did not have the receipt. Well, I never got one! She was soo freakin rude, and I even had the box and everything. They are obviously picking winners when they hire.
who made you god 123321?
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
You can't return merchandise without a receipt, but you could have exchanged it for something of equal or more value. Also, if there was nothing you wanted to exchange it for you could have been given "store credit" via a gift card.
No reciept.. No return or exchange! Dont blame the cashier !
Its a fake story. When I worked at Dollar General, we had people do this almost every day. Very frustrating.
There is a policy on how to except return and the employees are following the Store policy and the mangers rules. The employees also get treated unfairly by DG and customer for min wages. Alot of the times the mangers dont do their job or make their asst. look like jerk by telling them to do things and then tell other employees lies about situation. So as Far as hiring ### whom ever made that comment should understand that they are people just trying to keep their jobs.
What you havent realized that was bait by now? Dnidrko is fake. MMM, how do you like that taste of your own medicine?
But of course! :D
Why didn't you ask for a receipt when you made the purchase if there was a chance you may return it? They need a receipt to prove that you paid for it.
"they are obviously picking winners when they hire." Also, being unkind will not really get you anywhere.
Ignore he/she/it, she likes to instigate. also goes by many names, stealth pilot, 123321, *brenda*, God, like 10 others.
